You went to Akso Hospital to have your regular health check-up. Normally, Doctor Zayne was in charge of this, but that day, he was at an unexpectedly important meeting. Since he did not want to delay updating your health status before an important mission, Zayne had requested that another doctor do your check-up.
At first, you assumed it was Greyson, who was frequently Zayne's substitute doctor. But even Greyson was busy too. So you had to take the documents to an unfamiliar doctor's office.
That doctor was rather young, having recently attended Akso Hospital. Even though he worked in the same department as Zayne, you'd never met him before. The check-up went well, and you were relieved since your health was better than expected - which you had Doctor Zayne to thank because he had always kept a close eye on you, since you started dating.
Even though you were officially dating, no one other than you two knew about it. The reason was because you had both agreed that this was not the right time to go public. You had many missions that required concentration, and Zayne was constantly concerned with maintaining professional boundaries between doctor and patient. Knowing this, you were the one who proposed keeping your love affair private for a while. Of course, Zayne agreed with you, but as time passed, you realized that being public or not would have little impact on either of you.
However, you soon had to reconsider that due to something that happened after your routine medical check-up.
You had nothing else to do here and had yet to return home. You strolled around the nearby area and waited in front of Zayne's office. You still wanted to see him before leaving. Your new mission started the day after, so you would not be able to see him for about a week. After a time, you noticed the doctor who had performed your previous check-up appear.
“You're not going home yet?” He asked. Then without waiting for an invitation, he sat down next to you.
The conversation that followed took an unexpected turn. You expected him to keep the same professional demeanor as previously throughout the check-up, yet he spoke extremely casual. Too casual.
“Why are you sitting in front of Dr. Zayne's office?”
“Ah…” You attempted to come up with an excuse. You could not let other people know that you and Zayne were actually dating. “I… My legs are tired so I sat down to rest for a bit.”
"Really? I thought you were intentionally waiting for Dr. Zayne to return.”
He laughed, and you felt very guilty.
“So…” He hesitated, then asked. “There's nothing between you and Zayne, right?”
"Huh?" You almost jumped up. Why would this person ask something like that out of the blue and make you panic?
“I mean, people in the hospital sometimes implied that Zayne and you were close. Sorry if I'm a bit nosy… It's just…”
"That's not true." You denied almost immediately. “Me and Zayne… We were childhood friends…”
Your heart ached. You wished you could tell him straight out that Zayne was your lover. Suddenly, you felt a bit regretful for wanting to keep this relationship a secret.
“Then, lucky me!” The doctor breathed a sigh of relief. “So that means I have a chance?”
“What chance?” You asked again.
“If you are still single, and there's nothing going on between you and Doctor Zayne, may I have a chance to pursue you?”
As if a lightning had struck your ears, your entire body tensed. This doctor was just too careless. He only met you that day and had already asked you out in such a brazen manner. Confused, you didn't know how to react when you heard footsteps behind you and an immense hand with scars was placed on your shoulder.
“Who said there's nothing between the two of us?”
That was Zayne's voice. You turned around and gazed up at him. You had crimson cheeks. Zayne locked eyes with the young doctor seated next to you, the same kind of stare that sent chills down people’s spines. It was about time for him to turn into ice.
Doctor Greyson, who stood next to Zayne, immediately covered his mouth and laughed. He escorted the freezing doctor out of that place, saying as he walked:
“I already told you. Don't even dream of Doctor Zayne's girl...”
“But… But…”
Seeing him being dragged away was a pitiful sight. But the fun did not last long as you quickly followed Zayne into the office.
He did not say anything but simply checked the papers on the table. You frowned. Even though you did nothing wrong, that attitude of his made you feel as if you had just committed a crime.
“Zayne…” You called. “I didn't know why he asked me out…”
“If I didn't show up on time, how would you handle it?” Zayne suddenly interrupted you, and you immediately replied:
“Of course I would refuse him!”
Zayne seemed uneasy. He pulled the tie around his neck a little loose and admitted:
“It's all my fault. I shouldn't have allowed another doctor to do a check-up for you in the first place.”
“How could this be your fault? It's nobody's fault. This is just a small misunderstanding.”
“It's not a small matter.” Zayne said, but he did not look at you. He turned aside, his eyes focused somewhere on the potted plant you had given him by the window. “Not small at all.”
You moved closer and leaned against Zayne's desk. Your hand adjusted the chair he was sitting on so that he would face you. You voiced:
“Your expression like this looks like you're being… jealous, right?”
Zayne was not the type to wear emotions on his sleeve. But his attitude then, with a face like he had just been punched, a little irritated and a little unreconciled, you knew for sure it was jealousy. Instead of trying to deny it, Zayne said:
“It's uneasy to witness other people flirting with my girl.” He seized your wrists. Long, chilly fingers began caressing you. “I don't think I could endure this once more if it happens again.”
Zayne's eyes lowered, and you could hear the sulking in his voice.
“Doctor Zayne. It's unprofessional to date your patient.”
You giggled. Looking at his expression, you wanted to tease him a bit.
“Who said that?” Zayne leaned towards you. His head slid onto your lap. “Obviously, that person needs to loosen up a bit.”
The person mentioned was Doctor Zayne and no one else. He had said that a long time ago, before you two formally began dating. Sometimes, you would bring that up to give him a hard time.
“That's right. So now, Doctor Zayne wants to make his love affair public?"
You stroked Zayne's hair. He replied:
“I let everyone figure it out for themselves before. But it's time for an official announcement. I want the world to know, you are my girl.”

ᰔ A KISS FOR A KISS ft. kenma kozume
ʚ CW : first kisses. sfw.
Tumblr media
ʚ hq valentine’s series mlist ಇ
Tumblr media
it’s valentine’s day, a holiday for the celebration of love, and today your boyfriend only had one thing in mind.
he was going to kiss you.
it has been almost 8 months since you and kenma kozume had become official, and you still have yet to get to first base. kenma curses himself for the awkward timid personality he was given since birth, as it really would not come in handy when it came to the physical part of a relationship.
kenma never would have thought he would be the one wanting to initiate a kiss with you, but at this point, he really couldn’t help it. every time your hands would come to stroke his hair with that sweet, small smile on your face, or the hugs you would envelope him in whenever you had him in your sight, even the nervous blush on your cheeks when you would lace your fingers with his, all of it had him in a battle with his own desires, to just lean in and leave a little peck on the soft lips that adorned your lovely face. but no, it never seemed like the right time, or the right place, it just didn’t feel in character for him to do that out of the blue.
today, this changes. february 14th, kenma was going to kiss you before the sun set to bring another day. and he swore, he would die before he allowed himself to wimp out again. there’s no room for shyness.
the first half of school had rolled around, and kenma had surprisingly held your hand in the halls, which was more-so unlike him given how usually uncomfortable he is with pda. you shook it off though, given it was an important holiday for you two, and perhaps he just wanted to make it all the more special, to which you were extremely grateful.
no, this wouldn’t be the time to kiss you. it was too early in the day. he should wait until it’s less crowded and he’s more prepared.
kenma waved at you when you had walked into your class, a soft mumble of “see you at lunch.” you smile and hold a thumbs up before you make your way to your seat, kenma walking off to his own classroom.
eventually lunchtime had come, and you both sat in a nice corner of the courtyard, pretty pink lunchbox with yummy foods sprawled out in front of you. you gingerly chewed on the small heart shaped sandwiches you had packed, and kenma ate along with you, hardly audible hums in appreciation while munched on one himself.
“do you like it, kenma? the heart cutters made them so much cuter!”
he nodded his head while he shortly answered, “yeah, they’re good.”.
well, he couldn’t kiss you now. you were both eating lunch, and that would be kind of gross for you to get the taste of mayonnaise after a kiss.
kenma’s procrastination eventually led to the school day ending, and he wants to punch himself in the gut for not taking the opportunities he had, wussing out for who knows how many times. you meet up with kenma by the school gates, voice cheery as you tell him how excited you were to spend time with him. you’re smiling, and kenma has the slightest hint of pink on the tips of his ears as he listens to you talk. though, he isn’t particularly paying attention to what your saying, but rather staring at your lips as if they’re holding the universe themselves.
there’s a brisk, cold breeze but the sun is shining like no other today. the walk along the path to kenma’s home is lit with golden yellow hues that beat down from the sky as the sun begins to slowly decend from the horizon. beams of light frame your face, voice blurred from his pure focus and kenma thinks that he might be living in a movie while he watches you, then your lips, you, and your lips again.
would now be a good time? there’s no one around. would you say yes? maybe you would run away. what if you got freaked out? how should he say it? should he just go all in and skip the romantics? no, it needs to be special. maybe he should wait-
no. he’s put this off for far too long. 8 months too long. and as his teammates would say, no matter how much he despised the word in its entirety, he needed to use some guts.
kenma starts to gather every ounce of backbone he possibly could have in his body, he had to do it now and there was no wimping out this time. he had a mission, and he was determined to actually accomplish it. he’s prepared enough, he thinks, when he turns to you to speak up for once in his quiet life.
“can i-“
“kenma, would you like some candy?”
he was hushed before he could get a full syllable out, putting a pause on his impulses to bob his head yes.
kenma observes you while you’re rummaging through your schoolbag, reaching in to a small pocket before pulling out a piece of hershey’s cherry kiss chocolate. your hand stretches out towards his opened one, and before you drop it into his awaiting palm, you pull back.
“well, you can have this candy, but on one condition… im offering you a trade!” you announce.
“uh… what is it?” kenma asks you, voice low and tone a hint of confusion.
your hand unravels once again to reveal the small chocolate kiss in the crevices of your hand, making a show of the small treat.
“a kiss…” you pause, and kenma can feel the anticipation build up within him while he waits for you to finish your offer.
“for a kiss.” you point at your lips with your index finger.
kenma can feel his insides combust into a million pieces, his calm, collected demeanor is slightly faltered with the way his eyes widen, dumbfounded while his heart beat quickens to a rapid pace.
he looks at you in silence, admiring the red blush on your face that’s so obvious, you could camouflage with a garden of tomatoes. you’re nervous, and even so, you’re smiling at him with that same precious grin, and the same pretty, pink lips that have practically screaming “kiss me!” in his ears all day.
“okay.”
before you’re able to register kenma’s compliance to your trade, he’s unable to keep himself back anymore. his hand awkwardly grabs hold of your wrist, candy dropped to the floor when he collides his lips with yours. they’re soft and cherried in flavor, he deems, reveling in the feeling he’s been waiting to experience for what seems like forever. he holds the small kiss for a few seconds, before he’s slowly pulling away. gone were the previous cowardly attempts and failed opportunities, because kenma finally finds the guts this time to ask,
“can i have another?”
and kenma knows, kuroo was never going to let him live this down.

songs to listen to while reading: orion sun - intro // chloe george - when does it get good
──────────────────♡──✦
Seungmin feels around in the dark, and he knows at any moment, he’s going to trip. The layout of your apartment is still foreign to him, but he likes it here, and he wants to get used to being here. It’s a welcome change from the dorm—there it's usually a mess. It smells, it tends to get loud at the worst moments, and the worst part of all is that you’re not there. Ever.
He’s a bit embarrassed of the place, even though his room is usually clean and ready for company. It’s better here, though. It’s always quiet, and warm, and it smells like vanilla and coffee, even now, in the middle of the night.
As much as he wanted to keep things between the two of you, for now, it did not work. Seungmin came home very late the night after he confessed (and you confessed), so it was easy for everyone to figure out. Still, though, he hasn’t talked much about it in the three days since. And now, somehow, he’s ended up at your apartment, and it’s well past midnight.
You fell asleep on the couch watching a movie, tucked against his side, and he shook you awake eventually.
“Time to get to bed, yeah?” He said, and he gave you a few more minutes to collect yourself before helping you up. Then he guided you into the bedroom, but he just stood there at the door for a moment, watching, waiting until you turned to him and smiled.
“Goodnight”
“You’re leaving?” You check the time on your phone. It's late.
“Yeah, I should go,” his heartbeat picks up a little as he casually looks around your room. This is his first time seeing it., and Seungmin thinks to himself how very you it is—the colors, the mix of adult and not-so-adult, pages from magazines and photobooks pinned to a corkboard next to very important looking things. He sees his face pinned there as well; a closeup of him, ripped neatly from the Noeasy photobook. No, two photos of him...three.
“Okay. You don’t have to, but…” you think, look around, look back at him, “text me when you get home, okay?”
“I will”
He clicks the hall light off as he makes his way toward the door, and with the glow of the tv gone, it’s suddenly very, very dark. The light of his phone helps, but he hits his foot on the coffee table, of course, and then he finally grabs his bag. Luckily it takes him a few extra minutes to fight into his shoes, because a text comes through just as he goes for the door.
don’t leave yet
Seungmin looks toward your bedroom door and waits. One, two, three seconds. It swings open, and you leave it there so the light pours out and illuminates him.
“Did I forget something?”
You stop in front of him and nod, “I did,” and grab the front of his shirt to pull him down. You kiss, and he kisses right back. And then you let go. “Can I ask what’s in your backpack?”
“Huh? My…oh my bag. Just my usual stuff, uhm, it’s silly. Sometimes I feel like I’ll be pulled away when I have no time to pack, so I always carry something with me.”
“So that's your overnight bag?”
“I guess. I don’t want you to get the wrong idea...if it’s the wrong idea. I wasn’t expecting something to happen, I promise.”
“Seungmin, it’s okay. I just came out to kiss you goodnight, not question your motives.” You pull him to you again and kiss. “And you’re welcome to spend the night—on the couch, or in my bed. Preferably in my bed. But wherever you’re comfortable.”
His laugh is so nervous, and he hates it, “maybe next time?”
“Of course. I’m leaving for a while tomorrow, but I’ll let you know when I get home.”
“Will you be gone long?”
“No, a week at the most”
“A week. Okay, that’s not bad. If I’m home when you get back., we can do something.”
“Right, you might not be here”
You stare at each other silently, maybe hoping to read each other’s mind. You might not see him for a while and that was hard enough when you were just friends, pining endlessly. Now you’ve touched him and kissed him, and you need more time to do those things.
“I might be, though”
“Goodnight, Minnie”
This time he kisses you himself.
─ ⋅⋅ ─
“I’m not surprised…but at the same time I’m a little surprised,” Felix scratches his head. He’s watching Seungmin cross the kitchen to fill his glass with water.
He doesn’t notice everyone staring at him until he turns toward the coffee maker. “What?”
“Surprised why?” Minho cups his chin in his hand and smiles at both of them.
“How was your date last night, kid?”
"Date?" Minho jumps and grins at Seungmin.
“We just watched a movie, it was good. She’s leaving today so I won’t see her for a while.”
“Oh no, that’s no good. So—“
“What are you surprised about?!” Minho slap his palm on the table, “Yongbok!”
“I’m getting there!”
“You’ve never been to her place before, right? What brought that on…a movie at her apartment?”
Seungmin is making his coffee, patiently, and looking at his roommate as he takes his time getting to the point. But Felix waits as he makes his way to the table with them to press on.
“You never really told us what happened the other night. You two just disappeared.”
“Oh, we went to her place, so we could be alone…”
The three of them OH in unison, because Jeongin turns the corner just in time. Minho is still confused, and nobody seems to want to elaborate for him. All four of them here at the same doesn’t happen often, so Seungmin is feeling a little crowded
“…to talk.”
“Ooh,” Jeongin smiles, “and? Did you talk last night, too?”
“Not much, no”
Their eyes grow as they wait for more, but now Seungmin is having too much fun stringing them a long.
“Please continue”
“There’s nothing else,” he shrugs, “we drank a little, watched a movie, we both dozed off for a while, I think…no,” Seungmin throws a hand up when Felix' mouth turns up into a smirk. “It was a long movie, nothing else happened.”
“Did you kiss?” Jeongin leans closer and whispers, “you kissed, yeah?”
Seungmin can’t help but smile when he asks. He can feel his face grow warm just thinking about it. Last night, and then your first kiss. That one got much heavier than he expected, and he loved every second—the touching, your tongue, your fingers running through his hair. He doesn’t want to wait a week for more, but he’s not going to chase after you now. He has to be patient, again.
“You should have spent the night"
─ ⋅⋅ ─
You sit across from each other in the cafeteria, just like you’ve done a dozen times before. It’s not busy, not even at lunchtime, but looking up at him for too long is making your heart race. It’s not that you’re afraid someone will walk by and read your mind (but if they did, they might be disgusted), it just feels different being with him in public now.
It feels like you’re both doing something a little bit wrong.
Seungmin is a young idol, and he’s sweet and kind and innocent, as far as everyone knows. You’ve already seen his unfiltered self, and it’s better than any act he’s had to put on. But he is still sweet and kind and…you assume a little innocent. You’ve never talked about your sex lives, ever.
You look up at him and lock eyes. He smiles, and you can’t help but start undressing him. Yes, you’ve touched him, finally. His thigh—he let you run your hand from his knee and up you went until you knew it was time to stop—his neck, his shoulder, his face…but there’s still so much of him to touch and see. The part of your mind that you can't keep quiet is afraid there won't be many more oppurtunities.
You have to close your eyes and relax.
“Are you okay?”
“I’m okay, just thinking. Over-thinking.”
He smiles again, and you start to wonder if he’s doing it because he’s nervous.
“About us?”
Us? That’s a much bigger word than it was a few days ago. “Yeah, I guess so.”
“Good things?”
Good things, yes. As long as you stay focused, there's nothing to think about when it comes to him except for good things. “Yeah, of course.”
“How is your lunch? Spicy enough?”
“Is my face red?”
“A little, yes”
“No spice today, so it’s you doing that.”
─ ⋅⋅ ─
What if he stays too late tonight, again? He doesn’t want to run off at the first mention of spending the night, because he wants to stay here with you. There was no expectation of it when you asked last time, he assumes, because he can sleep wherever he wants; he can do whatever he wants. And you wouldn’t pressure him anyway. He knows you better than that.
He knows nothing about your sex life, though. And almost nothing about your dating life.
Seungmin doesn’t really know much about either of those things when it comes to himself, actually. There was never much time to date, or it was low on the list. And having sex without at least dating someone doesn’t sit well with him.
But he has been on dates, and he has kissed, and touched, and he’s been touched right back. But that’s all. No sex—that blowjob didn’t count—it was awkward, and it wasn’t very good. And as hard as he tries, he can't forget his first time trying to find a clit.
“Do you want a drink?” You shake his arm until he finally seems to hear you, “drink…beer, coke, coffee?”
“Soju?”
“I have strawberry and peach”
“Strawberry somaek?”
You disappear into the fridge and dig around, and Seungmin watches carefully when you bend forward. He’s always admired your body, though it never had much to do with him liking you the way he did. But now, he feels like it’s okay to appreciate it more. You’re shorter than him, and curvier (which doesn’t take much, seeing as how Seungmin is basically a straight line). Your ass and thighs are an eyeful for him, though.
Everything looks soft. Everything is soft, because he did sneak his hand there that first night. He squeezed his fingers right above your knee, then moved up ever so slightly to get some thigh. He didn’t dare go any further, though.
The touching you did the second time was much more innocent—holding hands, fingers laced together, your head against his shoulder as you fell asleep. He looked you over carefully, but kept his hands to himself, only daring to run a thumb over your wrist as you dozed off.
“Would you like to pour, or do you trust me?”
Seungmin snaps out of it. He’s pretty sure you caught him staring. “I trust you.”
“Can you grab the glasses for me?”
He does, and he follows you back to the living room and makes himself comfortable at the coffee table. And now that he’s started, he can’t take his eyes off of you as you move.
“That’s…oh okay we have different pours,” Seungmin eyes the glass, but you pull it toward yourself. “That’s much more soju than I usually do.”
You pour his now, but only fill the glass a third of the way before topping it off with the beer.
“I thought maybe you were trying to soften me up.” His breath catches in his chest when he says it, because it sounded much more stupid than it did in his head.
“No, trying to soften myself up, actually.”
“Why? You can’t get drunk without me,” the frown he gives you is over the top and very cute. “I don’t want you to fall asleep too early.”
“I’ll be careful”
─ ⋅⋅ ─
Seungmin feels good after two glasses. It’s not much, but he hasn’t eaten recently, and he’s pretty certain his second drink was identical to yours.
You’re halfway through your third.
“These are too easy to drink.” You sit at the table with a dish of mandu and dakgangjeong. “And I’m guessing you’re hungry.”
“I usually am.” He leans forward and smells the chicken, “did you make all this.
You shake your head, “I’m not the best at cooking. I wish I had more time to practice.”
“That’s okay. Thank you for feeding me, and getting me tipsy.” He grabs a piece of chicken and pops it in his mouth. And then a dumpling. And then finishes off his third somaek.
“You can’t be tipsy yet”
“I will be if I have another”
Seungmin does have another. And the for his next drink, he switches to straight beer—but he’s drunk. He picks up his chopsticks and grabs for a dumpling, but it slips off and bounces onto the table.
Both of you just stare at for a long moment. And then Seungmin giggles as he tries again. This time it makes it to his mouth.
“Where you going?”
He’s slowly getting to his feet, and he stands for a minutes to get his head straight.
“Bathroom”
“Good idea”
“Are you joining me?”
You stop halfway onto your feet and look up at him, his hand is outstretched like he’s welcoming the company, “ah…you first.”
It’s very obvious he had a bit too much. And you did, too, but you’re working hard to keep yourself together. When you walk back out from the bathroom, Seungmin is standing up, staring at the tv, and the rest of the chicken is making its way into his mouth. He looks comfortable and satisfied—drunk, yes…but happy.
It makes you warm up even more, and you can’t remember the last time you felt so good.
“Hey”
“Hi…hello, do you feel better? Do you want the last few pieces?” He holds some out to you, but it disappears into his mouth as soon as you shake your head. “We should sober up.”
Yes, you should. You sit on the couch and curl yourself up into a ball, but when he sits next to you, your limbs develop a mind of their own. Before you can stop yourself, you slide your arms around his waist and hold yourself tight against him. Your leg drapes over his lap, and you’re practically straddling his thighs. He takes it in stride, though. Seungmin holds you right back and takes the opportunity to slide a hand across your hip, and when he squeezes, you jump.
“Sorry”
“Mm mm, no…it’s good. Feels good.”
“It does?”
“Yeah, you’re so warm”
“I think that’s the alcohol”
“Maybe…maybe, but you always—“ you stop and start to giggle, and you shove your face into his shirt to try to stifle yourself.
“Always what?”
You shake your head against him, push harder against his chest, take in his scent…feel yourself becoming even more drunk. “Nothing.”
His hand slides back up and settles on your hip, “always something good, hopefully.”
“Sorry, my head is swimming.”
“Mine too”
“I was hoping the alcohol would help, but you’re making me so nervous.”
“You’re nervous? I’m making you nervous?”
“Yeah, maybe telling you will make it go away."
“I’m also nervous. I wasn’t the last time I was here…so maybe the drinks are working against us.”
You force yourself to look up at him, and he looks down at you with big, heavy eyes. Your gaze drops and takes in every bit of him—his cheeks, his nose, his lips…his lips. He wets them and a smile pulls at his mouth, and you desperately want him to lean down closer to you. Every part of you is screaming for him, but you’re still frozen.
He’s frozen, too. The booze just made both of you stupid.
“Seungmin?” You’ve never, not even as a teenager, felt so stupidly in love with someone.
“Yeah?”
The longer you watch him, the closer he seems to get, and you see every little detail, every little spot, every little perfect blemish and pore on his skin.
“Kiss me before I explode”
His lips press into yours and his fingers squeeze so hard again. You want him to hold you tighter still, and you need to be closer. He does. Seungmin moves you until you’re on his lap, and he devours you. He’s all tongue, and it’s wet and messy, not like his previous kisses, but it’s so good tasting him, and tasting the entire night on him.
Then he stops suddenly to catch his breath, but he stays there and bites down lightly on your bottom lip. Your eyes open, and he’s right there, staring. He pulls back, looks at the space between your thighs, and there’s not much there. If you let yourself relax a little more, you’d feel his dick growing in his sweatpants.
But you can see it. You’re no longer frozen, so you shake the thought of what’s between his legs out of your head, for now. Both of you are way too fucked up for the first time. What you do need to do is kiss him again, so you take over, squeeze his shoulders and hold him steady while you lick across his parted lips. Seungmin opens up for you and he moans into the kiss—moans right down your throat.
You shake your head, “we should stop until we’re, um…I don’t wanna do this drunk.”
“I don’t either,” he keeps kissing, but slows down and softens his touch. His hands move to your waist, and then your back, where they stay.
“But don’t leave tonight”
“I won’t”
─ ⋅⋅ ─
Seungmin watches you from his side of your bed. He did fall asleep for a while, but he woke from a dream and forgot for a few moments where he was. His racing heart beat against the mattress as he looked toward you, facing away from him, shirt pulled halfway up your back. You kicked the covers off in your sleep—probably too warm from sobering up, but so deeply asleep. Still, he reaches out and runs two fingers down the skin that’s peeking out.
You move ever so slightly, and mumble something. He looks at the time: just after 4am. You’ve been asleep for about three hours, because both of you were out as soon as you hit the bed.
But Seungmin feels better. Less drunk, at least. His head aches a little, but not enough to bother him. He reaches out again, but this time he pulls at your shirt until you’re covered.
“Minnie”
“I’m up, you feel okay?”
You mumble again, and groan, but you don’t answer.
“Minnie…hmmm, don’t leave”
“Hey,” he crawls closer and runs a hand down your arm, “hey, oh you’re still asleep.”
You wake up when you feel his lips on your shoulder. “Min?”
“Are you up or talking in your sleep?”
“I’m up…oh no, what did I say?” You turn onto your back and grab his hand. “I don’t do that all the time.”
“Just my name”
“Oh”
“And you told me not to leave,” he squeezes your hand and searches for the soberness in your eyes, “I’m still here.”
“Sorry, I don’t usually speak so clearly”
The sleep-talking doesn’t phase him. In fact, the quietness of the room is a welcome change to his typical nights. The whole night, drunk as you both were, was quiet and calm. “Were you thinking about me in your sleep?”
“I must have been,” you move his hair away from his eyes, and now you’re searching for any leftover drunkenness. He seems wide awake and sober.
“It’s 4 in the morning, if you’re still tired…we can go back to sleep.” That’s not what he wants, but he also wants what you want. Seungmin figured you’d get into bed and both of you would sleep soundly until morning. But he woke up.
“No, I feel good. And you look good.”
The truth is, you are very tired. If you close your eyes right now, you have no doubt that you would fall back to sleep almost immediately. Instead you rip off the rest of the blanket and sit up.
“Where are you going?”
He watches you stand slowly, carefully, just in case. But your legs work just fine. Maybe Seungmin can change that. The thought sends a little wave a pleasure through you, and you smile when you turn to look at him, “bathroom.”
That is what you do, but you dig through the drawer under the sink as well. You didnt prepare properly, because you didn’t double check to see if you still had condoms, and if they were still good.
“Oh good,” you grab the half used pack and look closely at the date stamped on the bottom, "lucky.” But you make the mistake of looking at yourself in the mirror, and your reflection feels like it's a mile away. Your eyes blur, and the room spins for a moment.
A perfectly timed knock on the door makes you jump, and the box slips from your hand.
“Are you okay? I gotta go, too.”
“Yeah, Minnie, I’m coming,” you pick them up and palm them as you head for the door, “sorry, go ahead.”
-
Seungmin whistles as he returns and quietly shuts the door, “so are you…out?” He holds up the empty box and shakes it. “You left the drawer open.”
“Oh, no no,” you grab the condoms from your bedside table and show them to him, “we have two.”
He pulls one from your fingers and examines it for a moment, “I don’t think these will fit.”
─ ⋅⋅ ─
It’s stupid, and it’s reckless, and you know it. But it’s not going to stop you. From the moment he said the condoms—the only condoms either of you had, wouldn’t work, you tossed it back onto the table, looked up at him, “okay,” and grabbed the waistband of his sweatpants until he was right in your face.
“Okay” He sets his down, too. “Are you…” he groans when you find a good spot on his stomach, and he laughs when you graze your lips across his skin.
Every time you get back to his belly button, you tug a little more. His sweatpants start to tent, and you’re starting to feel exactly how much he wouldn’t fit into those condoms. One more tug, and you can see him—the stiff base of his cock, held still by the grip of your fingers.
He’s so hot against the fabric, and a wet spot of pre-cum starts to come through as you stroke him.
“I’m not surprised you like to tease,” he smiles down at you, but he’s blushing…everywhere. His cheeks, his ears, his neck. When he pulls his shirt over his head, he’s flushed all the way down to where your lips are.
Seungmin is just as lean under all those clothes as you imagined, and his shoulders…
“Turn around”
“Huh…turn?”
You stand and grab his hips, “yeah, turn around for me.”
He listens and peeks back at you the best he can—until your hands move from his hips, slowly upward, touching every bit of skin you can—across his shoulder blades, back down his spine.
The sigh he lets out is so content and relaxed, it actually puts you more at ease. He laughs sweetly when your lips touch him. “I like your teasing.”
Seungmin turns back to face you, and your fingers slide across him as he moves.
“Just admiring you." Yes, you are admiring him. Touching him, finally, is doing more for you than anything else possibly could. But every step forward now is taking all of your energy.
“Admiring? Me?” He cups your cheek and lifts until you’re looking at him, then pulls you close.
It’s sweet and it’s perfect, and you melt into him, but now you’re so distracted by his dick pressing against you. You push your hips in until he groans, slide your hands under his waistband.
Seungmin grabs back, and squeezes your ass. “Let me see you.” He pulls your shirt up and over your head before you can react, but you fold your arms over yourself before pressing back into him.
“Ah…I’m sorry, too fast?” His hands keep you against him. He holds so tight, you couldn’t escape even if you wanted to. “I should have let you do that.”
“No, I just—“
“I didn’t think you’d be shy”
A shiver runs through you when his hands move down your back, then back up.
“How about we…” he scoots closer to the lamp, keeping hold of you, and clicks it off. “Is that better?”
“Maybe,” you laugh, but it’s hesitant, a little edgy. “You’re too perfect, Minnie and…ah, I don’t know what's going on, I’m nothing special.”
“No, you're very special. What’s the matter?”
You relax a a little in his arms.
“I’m not perfect, not even close. You haven’t seen me after rolling out of bed at noon, or grumpy when my mouth hurts after getting these things tightened.”
You whine his name. You’re ruining the moment. Him comforting your sudden stupid thoughts and doubts—he’s probably already getting soft. “I’m sorry, I’m making a mess of everything. I'm not sure what happened.”
“Mm, no…you haven’t made a mess of anything.” Seungmin grabs your shirt from the edge of the bed and slips it back on you, “it's okay, we can get back under the covers if you’d like.”
─ ⋅⋅ ─
“Give me your hand”
Seungmin holds it up to you, then sets it in yours.
Back under the covers is where you end up, and you really do feel like a tease now. Poor Seungmin—his dick doesn’t know what’s going to happen next, but right now, you know he’s definitely not hard. You've ruined that.
“You think I’m perfect…can I think you’re perfect?” he lets go of your hand and runs his up your arm.
“No, I’m a mess. My skin, my hair is a mess. I’m getting chubby because I never watch what I eat. I don’t know why you’re here.”
“Because I want to be here. Because you brought me here and made me feel like I was yours."
“I was so high off of your words before. I thought I was dreaming when we were talking after dance practice.”
Seungmin moves closer, and now you’re sharing a pillow, and you breathe in every sigh he breathes out. His hand is moving so slowly over you, and he’s being so patient as it finds the curve of your hip and slides under the bottom of your shirt. “You’re not a mess.” He’s touching you and kneading his fingers into your side. Into your back. He works his way up and drags his fingertips up to your throat. “And they weren’t just words.”
How could you possibly deny him, looking at you like this? You shouldn’t, but your brain is telling you it will never work; it’s a waste of time. He’s going to really see you, and change his mind—he’ll find out how bad you are at this, and how emotional and unbearable you get when you do. It’s too much for him.
Still, his touch is as soft as his eyes, and he moves even closer until his leg can slide over yours.
“No, I don’t deserve you”
He isn’t sure how to reply to that, so he just stares. Maybe he’s waiting for you to crack a smile, or laugh it off, but you don’t. “Why would you say that?”
“You can do so much better than me, I promise.” You get as far as sitting yourself up, and your head pounds against your eyes. The alcohol is catching up to you and turning into a hangover already. “I shouldn’t have let it get this far, I’ve been stupid.”
“What are you saying?” Seungmin grabs your arm as you shift to get out of bed. His head is pounding now, too, because he's trying to figure out what went wrong and where he fucked up. “I can go if that’s really what you want, but give me a minute.”
You struggle with a response. You don’t want him to leave, but he should. And if he does, it might be the end of something that didn’t even begin. “A minute…for what?”
“To say something”
“Right, I’m sorry”
“I meant everything I said before, even if I didn’t say much. But you knew what I was thinking.” He lets go of your arm, because you seem to have relaxed. You’ve settled back in your spot, under the covers, back against the pillows. “I want you, and you want me…I think. And I need you around, I know that much. If I leave, will we go back to how we were before?”
There’s a long silence. You’re not sure if he wants an answer to that, but you don’t want to think too hard about it. Maybe, eventually, the memory of this can pass and you can be friends again.
“I don't want to go back to that. Not after this,” he answers himself. “So…”
Seungmin throws the covers off of himself, puts his feet on the cold floor, and then waits a few seconds before standing. It takes a moment to find his shirt, but he does and throws it on, and the entire time you watch him so intensely. But you stay quiet.
He knows you’re watching, and he takes his time, hoping you’ll stop him as he goes for the door. But you don’t.
And he anxiously waits for his phone to buzz after he grabs it from the coffee table. The empty bottles and glasses—the mess from the food scattered everywhere—Seungmin stares at it, waiting for a text that won’t come, and he decides he won’t leave yet. Instead he starts to clean.
─ ⋅⋅ ─
You’re stuck in your spot on the bed, phone now in hand, and you stare at the messages you’ve shared over the last week—to prove yourself wrong, maybe. Or just to make yourself feel worse. You couldn’t possibly feel any worse right now, though. Seungmin is still here; his scent lingers, and the feeling of his touch. But he left. You kicked him out, and deep down, you know you don’t want to subject him to whatever the future might hold. This isn’t possible, and thinking it could be was both of you just being struck dumb with lust. And maybe love.
You’ll be back tomorrow morning, right? I get my days mixed up sometimes, especially when I’m home for a while. Do you get like that? Maybe my memory is going already, haha I’ll be around if you’re free, so I hope you are. I can’t wait to see you again.
Seungmin is a good texter. He’s thoughtful and sincere, and he seems to choose his words carefully, as if he’s speaking to you face to face. That, or he just closes his eyes and types everything he feels. That wouldn’t surprise you.
I hope texting you so soon isn’t weird. No, it’s you! It’s not weird, or if it is that makes it normal for us. I hope you feel as good as I do. Good night ♥️
You pull the covers up to your chin and try to get comfortable. But you can’t take your eyes off the string of messages.
I practiced your song today! It might take a little more work to get it to sound good with my vocals. Maybe I need your input. But I’d rather surprise you!
He’s probably been working on it all week, and here you almost forgot about it. Before he sent this text, you didn’t know if he was serious, or it was just his opening line.
The sound of glasses clinking together echoes into the bedroom, and your heart pounds wildly. Then the pounding in your head starts up again, and for some reason you choose now to start crying. The tears start to brim, and you try desperately to keep them from going any further.
The sound of water running gets you out of bed fast, and you walk slowly to the bedroom door. You can see the kitchen light on through the crack, and the shadow of movement is there, too. His backpack is untouched at the end of the couch, and when you walk out to the hallway, you see his shoes next to yours. He’s washing the dishes and cleaning up the mess the two of you made.
“Seungmin”
He jumps and almost drops the glass.
“What are you doing?”
“Uh,” he sighs, “I didn’t want you to have to clean all this up in the morning. I’m sorry, I’m done.” He grabs his backpack and heads for the door. “Get some sleep before the sun comes up.”
One shoe is on, the other is halfway there as he stares at you. “Are you crying?”
You wipe at your cheek and feel what you couldn’t hold back.
Seungmin kicks his shoes off again and hesitates for a moment, but eventually, when you don’t speak, he closes the space between you. “You’re crying,” he takes your cheeks in his hands. “Please…if you won’t talk to me now, please call me tomorrow. Or text, I don’t care. Tell me you still feel the same as you do right now, and I’ll leave you alone.”
“Stop it,” you squeeze your eyes shut and feel more tears escape. Seungmin’s warm embrace, his arms holding tight around your shoulders, it makes everything else fall away.
“Stop what?”
“Being so good, and patient, and calm. You should’ve run off by now”
“Why are you so hard on yourself? You think you should be punished for…yes, I remember you saying that…for what? I know you want this.”
All you can manage is a mumble against his chest.
He relaxes his arms and grips your waist, “what did you say?”
“I do”
“Want this? Or think you should be punished?”
More silence from you, but he waits.
“I’ll leave. And I hope I hear from you tomorrow.”
He lets go, and manages to get into his shoes before you say his name. As fed up as he should be hearing his name again, he’s not. Seungmin looks at you with hopeful, tired eyes.
“Yeah?” He watches you closely, tilts his head to the side. You can see his eyes moving up and down over your body, "tell me I can stay.”
Your legs shake and your head swims. The ache behind your eyes is growing worse and worse, but looking at him makes it bearable, somehow. Even now, he’s ready to run to you as soon as you say go. But you can’t figure out why.
Seungmin is still who he is, and you’re who you are, and you don’t really belong together. Someone will find out and put a stop to it. But what if things slowly start to connect; fall into place; work out for a while? Forever? No, that doesn't sound right. Loving him before was easy, because you assumed it would always be one-sided and simple; no worries about making something work, or about working toward something. Now this is real, and it's a little bit scary looking at him and realizing how much you want him, and how big this could get.
"Say something," he sighs, and it sounds nowhere near as irritated as it should.
Your gaze drops to your feet, defeated—it moves toward his, and again, he’s taking off his shoes. Seungmin stands there and faces you.
“Okay...okay."

⇢ ⁺ THE LITTLE DOLL'S DREAM˖ Yuu finds herself in quite a predicament, leading her to stay in RSA. — PREVIEW (read for tags and synopsis) — AO3 ⁺ w.c : 8k+
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was a disastrous morning from the very beginning.
Yuu learnt to grow no ill feelings towards anything she faced. Blame is for the weak, and hate… hate is for deeply rotten ones.
Though now if she would choose who to blame or who to hate, she must have chosen the cold, dreary rain falling that night, emphasizing an everlasting sorrow loomed before her flower garden.
She opened her eyes. It indeed was raining hard, yet she had a duty to maintain. One light snap with her elegant fingers, and gilded shimmers flickered around. Pink butterflies blossomed from those glitter drops, catching pieces of her clothes to cover the silky nightgown she was wearing.
“Thank you, my dearest,” she thanked her little helpers, smiling despite the gloomy weather, and let her arms slide into the sleeves of a coat decorated with beautiful ornaments.
Yuu threw one melancholic gaze towards the window. It never rained here in this place. Though Yuu wasn’t unfamiliar with the concept, she witnessed this phenomenon in princesses’ worlds.
Sne gasped softly when one of the butterflies she summoned touched her cheek, trying to switch her attention. Its wings trembled a little.
“Shh, little one,” she said, welcoming the butterfly on her finger. “Why would you say I look lonely when I’ve got such loyal friends, you that would be.”
She let a soft smile form on the curves of her lips. There was no reason to be lonely, certainly not. Why would she, when there were such beautiful butterflies surrounding her and little sprites she used to turn into mischievous imps when she was younger?
And she also had Fairy Godmother. Her world and her everything, her most important person in the whole universe.
“Now, shall we proceed into the garden? I wonder how flowers are doing, it must be painful to be soaked in such harsh rain!”
Sadly, no birds to be heard. She met a rough and unpleasant wind when she opened the main door, as if was trying to welcome an uninvited guest to her magnificent mansion. What a pity, there’s plenty of relaxing tea herbs to be brewed while having a chat with someone, she thought for a mere second before erasing that silly idea, it disappearing with her closing the door when she stepped out of the mansion.
Flowers hid in their downcasted petals, as if scared of being caught like little children. Yuu smiled, greeting them, and drew her magic wand out of her sleeve, casting a wave of golden sparkles with a whirling movement, the hem of her dress resembled a dance of horses on a children's spinning carousel.
Some flowers arised, leaning towards a gentle light spreaded on them, but some remained still and dull.
“Perhaps a song is what you desire, my lovely ones?”
Yuu parted her lips, a tender melody embracing damaged petals and recovering them with a gentle flow.
“Sprites,” she called for little funny-looking creatures, playfully tapping on their wings with her magic wand, and smiled. “Please help me save our little friends by creating a tent, hm?”
Sprites danced under the heavy rain, creating a shimmering cover for flowers to be saved from damage, and Yuu bowed to them, giving her gratitude.
She stared at flowers blooming under the magical cover Sprites created, her gaze was rather absentminded. Yuu didn’t like rain. It was always cold, harsh, even violent at times, and the stars she liked to observe were always dissolving in a darkness loomed before the rain. Few raindrops fell on her shoulders covered with a coat but she ignored the feeling of a cloth soaking.
“Beware, young lady.”
Yuu turned around, escaping a magical tent and getting completely soaked in the rain. A voice, so gentle and dear to her, flew somewhere near her, as if a butterfly leading her to somewhere.
“Fairy Godmother?” Yuu asked weakly, her voice trembling in excitement, but the silence was the answer.
Locks of her hair, soaked in rain, disheveled all around her face but she didn’t seem to care much, ignoring butterflies surrounding her in a warning way, as if trying to prevent something Yuu wasn’t aware of yet.
It’s been so long since she last saw the only one who she could call her family. Fairy Godmother… no, her Mother went somewhere in order to accomplish ‘a really tangled, strange case’ details of which were never revealed to Yuu, but she knew it wasn’t her business. She had no right to interfere and yet she started feeling lonely.
How… many years passed since she was welcomed in her Mother’s warm embrace?
“Fret not, young lady,” Yuu rushed into the mansion she was occupying at the moment, and clenched the cloth right where her heart was, feeling excruciating pain blooming within.
“Mother?..” she appealed in a voice, now completely weakened. “I don’t understand… is something the matter?.. Sprites, come here.”
Sprites rushed to her, their wings trembling as if trying to express their worry, but still they were quite the same as usual, so her quick assumption that she casted the wrong spell and turned them into Imps was nonexistent apparently.
She didn’t call them just because she wanted to. The exact same sensation filled her heart, the same one she had felt long long ago when Princesses’ worlds went disastrous.
“Is something the matter with Mirror?” Yuu asked more herself than Fairy Godmother’s fadingly flickering voice.
But there was no response. Yuu swallowed a heavy feeling of worry in her throat and decided to go further and investigate. Nodding to the Sprites and butterflies around her and forcing a smile, she grabbed dress hem to make it easier to run, and hurried in the Mirror Room.
Princesses’ portraits were just the same as they always used to be. Cinderella, Ariel, Belle, Rapunzel, and Tiana… Crystals, which were supposed to keep peace and tranquility of princesses’ worlds, were shining brightly under the golden frames, crimson sparkles floating around them.
Yuu came closer to Cinderella’s mirror, pressing her finger to the surface and felt the familiar sensations of water ripplings, which meant she could have entered the portal if she wanted to. So the problem wasn’t with Princesses’ worlds?
“Fairy Godmother?” Yuu tried to call for her once more, her own voice echoing in the room and causing mirrors to reverberate the sound, water-like surface flattering slightly.
No response was heard again.
Yuu proceeded further, her hand resting on the railing of stairs leading down to the first floor. Air turned uneasy, her own stomach tangling because of growing worry. Something malicious was hiding in the dark, and when she drew her magic wand, raising it and making candles to light up, she gasped in shock, almost dropping her wand.
“Huh?..”
A sinister-looking mirror, framed by gilded snakes and with a figure resembling a crown at its center, materialized in the center of the room. No one's portrait was visible in its reflection, only a bright green light flooded the mirror to the brim.
Yuu took a step towards it when a dark fog embraced her feet. She wanted to observe it with more thoughtfulness, but an ominous feeling radiating from the mirror behaved as if it wanted to stop Yuu from proceeding.
Yuu peered more closely, studying the puffs of dark smoke that looked like ashes, and shivered from the uncomfortable cold that penetrated to the very bones and made the blood freeze in the veins.
“What are you?..” She tried to ask the mirror, pointing her magic wand at it, ready to cast a protection spell.
Butterflies twitched nervously in an attempt to fly closer, rushing away that instantly from the mirror as if being scalded.
But the mirror remained silent, only malicious dark fog continuing to swirl around her figure. She took one step closer, being able to touch the mirror frame now, but Yuu hesitated.
Butterflies surrounded her, forming a wall to prevent her from coming closer, but Yuu let out a soft chuckle.
“Are you worried about me, little ones?”
Butterflies were flapping their wings aggressively, as if emphasizing that they really were. Yuu casted a wave of light to clear the path but not in a malevolent way, and approached the mirror. She couldn’t have seen her own reflection, the surface was completely dark, and only neon green lights danced in front of her, as if trying to welcome her in their waltz.
“Should I… pursue?” She asked herself again, holding tightly on her wand, and frowned.
Yuu tried to turn on a bit of rationality, exhaling and letting go of all her negative thoughts whirling around in her head.
The mirror looked monstrously vicious and creepy. It didn’t resemble a Princess’s world, not even slightly. Even Esmeralda's mirror was not so eerie and gloomy, the dreary corridors of the cathedral did not reek with such clear rejection. The dark energy that oozed from this mirror seemed to be the quintessence of all the evil forces that Yuu happened to meet on her way.
“We have to hurry, young lady.” Fairy Grandmother’s voice broke through the silence again, and Yuu jolted for a second. “Because even miracles take a little time.”
“Are you implying I should go through the mirror?” Yuu asked hesitatingly but heard a little chuckle. Maybe it was just her imagination?
“Why, yes,” Fairy Godmother replied. “Princesses may be in danger… Would you be so kind as to investigate this mirror for me, young lady? I’m afraid I can’t come back to you yet…”
Yuu nodded, ignoring butterflies getting extremely worried around her.
“Of course. Princesses might be in danger, too. I need to save their dreams once more.”
“Ah, young lady, you’ve already grown up so much… I hope I’ll still be there to assist you, but who knows what you may encounter in that realm. Be careful, my dear.”
Yuu felt tears accumulating in the corner of her eyes after she heard genuine worry in her Mother’s voice, and straightened her posture, getting ready.
“Now, go… I wish you good luck.”
“Yes, Fairy Godmother.”
Yuu let the mirror swallow her, dark fog interlacing with green flames and surrounding her figure, now dissolving within.
“But like all dreams, I’m afraid this won’t last forever.”
Tumblr media
Yuu felt like drifting. Something warm and gentle was embracing her limbs, a tender floral aroma enveloped her both body and soul, causing her to dissolve in it and entrust herself into the sweet oblivion.
All that mattered at the moment was that it was warm. Cordial feeling Yuu was seeking for too long was filling her up, flushing out all the worries she had accumulated for so many years.
The concept of time suddenly seemed strange and absurd to her — what time even was in the first place, here and now? What was ‘now’? Yuu wanted to laugh out loud but couldn’t register at the moment how in the world she would do that, given she didn’t quite understand where she was. What she was.
Floral scent that was successfully carrying her far away tickled her nose, causing Yuu to giggle. The sound of her own laugh reminded her of being a little girl enjoying her youth and helping out Princesses. Someone was there with her, always backstage, yet there was. Someone whose gentle mother-like voice always managed to calm her down, like a sweet tranquil lullaby lulling her to sleep.
Mother-like?..
Yuu felt how something heavy filled her chest, a viscous feeling was crawling under her skin and making her cough with struggles. A soft fabric brushing against her skin before was no longer present, and right when the feeling of something gentle embracing her changed with a loud and painful thud, she opened her eyes instantly.
“Huh?..”
A room, which reminded Yuu of a royal ball hall full of warm light, loomed before her eyes. Columns with majestic Corinthian capitals towered over her, as if surrounding. The marble floor gleamed with the light of the luxurious chandeliers on the walls, and right in front of her was a huge staircase leading forward to the top.
Yuu realized her limbs started to shiver a little, and when she managed to literally tear away her gaze from observing glorious decorations, she looked at the marble floor and saw her reflection in it.
“I don’t remember changing my clothes before going through the mirror?..”
Under the loosened white blouse was a layer of dark blue fabric covering her neck and clavicle. Mazarine coat with gilded inserts clung to the blouse with gold aiguillettes made of noble metal. The blouse was tucked into straight trousers of the same color as the coat, and at her waist was a silk belt, over which silver chains were tied.
“What in the world…” Yuu mumbled to herself, clutching the fabric in her hands and trying to register how it happened. She never changed her clothes when transferring to Princesses’ worlds. Moreover, Yuu couldn’t remember the last time she wore trousers.
Yuu, who was an apprentice of a self-proclaimed Princesses’ overseer, tried to remember if there was a Princess who wore a uniform similar to this one. No, it wasn’t the case. Was it male uniform then?
What mattered the most at the moment was that she appeared in the world she knew nothing about. Fairy Godmother used to tell her stories about Princesses and their Heroes never mentioned such clothes and never did Yuu herself transmigrate into the world similar to the one she was now.
She raised up and gasped right the second when she observed her surroundings more closely.
“Just where did I…”
Despite a tranquil aura lingering all over the place, Yuu couldn’t find her mind at peace when she saw almost a hundred beds covered with many beautiful flowers, and glassy lids were covering them. A soft floral scent enveloped the room, merging with the smell of splitting wax.
To be more precise, Yuu didn’t really care that the whole ambiance reminded her of a sanctuary. Transparent lids resembled coffins’ lids but Yuu already witnessed one. She furrowed her brows, a flash unpleasant memory of Snow White sleeping in a similar coffin caused her to bite her lip.
There were people in here. Serene expressions blossomed on their faces, resembling a garden of freshly bloomed roses. Yuu felt a tangled anxious feeling unfolding in her stomach as she drew her hand to the mouth, covering it in shock. What if someone poisoned them like the Evil Queen did to Snow White?
Yuu rushed to one of them, trying to get rid of the glassy cover, but all in vain.
“Fairy Godmother!” She called for the one who definitely knew what to do and how to help. “Fairy Godmother?..”
No answer was heard.
Using magic in an unknown world was risky yet. She summoned her magic wand, and a wave of bright golden sparkles crumbled over a coffin she was standing near. A little glimpse of confidence flickered in her, causing Yuu to sigh in relief. Even if she could have used her magic even without a wand, who knew what would happen without it?
“Wake up, little one…” She begged for awakeness, her hands resting on a glassy coffin. Heart was trembling under her chest in genuine worry for someone she didn’t know.
Yet the person still remained asleep. Only silence and the crackling wick of candles on the wall lamps were her interlocutors.
She turned over only to discover the same transparent glass cover broken into a myriad of pieces right where she found herself when waking up. Yuu frowned, not quite understanding what even happened in the first place. Was she sleeping like that too? But what exactly made her wake up? And if so, did it mean others would wake up too? And yet according to the curse casted on Snow White, a true love kiss was the only remedy.
Yuu touched her lips absentmindedly as if trying to grasp if she was awakened by a kiss, but the imperturbable silence was her only companion.
“Ha… how am I supposed to solve this, Fairy Godmother?” Yuu sighed but straightened her back and decided to look around once more.
Just when she threw a glance at the stairs, a sudden commotion was heard somewhere outside of the hall.
Yuu withdrew her magic wand, making it disappear in the air with bright golden sparkles, and turned to the main door framed with gold. It was better not to expose her magic abilities right at the moment in the place, surroundings of which were not identified.
The door opened and revealed a group of people cheerfully chatting about something, and when Yuu distinguish an old man leading the group and made an assumption he apparently was the leader, she concentrated her hearing abilities and managed to hear their conversation.
“We’ve never reached the number of almost one hundred first years!” The man said quite proudly. “Almost one hundred young extremely talented individuals…”
The further conversation was cut off abruptly due to the group coming closer to Yuu herself. For a mere moment Yuu found herself lost in their happy sounds of talking. Her smile became nostalgic and rather bittersweet of a flavor, sympathizing the lack of having a person to chat with.
It’s been so long since she has seen Fairy Godmother not in her dreams but in real life.
“... Excuse me?”
Right, she shouldn’t have loosen her focus. Yuu blinked at the man who stood in front of her surrounded by a large number of other people.
“What the…”
“The coffin is broken?!”
“How in the world did someone manage to break it?!”
“No way, is she a girl?!”
“In all-boys school? I wouldn’t be so sure…”
Yuu smiled sheepishly, absolutely confused. All-boys school?! God, what was happening? Yuu tried to remain calm despite the commotion she was causing right at the moment.
The very first rule Fairy Godmother taught her was not to lie. The rule never seemed vague to her, even if the second one was not to tell anyone of her origins. Yuu thought it was only logical, because it’s not like the Princesses wanted to know who she was and seemed happy enough after hearing that Yuu arrived to help.
After visiting many worlds, Yuu came to the conclusion that if someone is eager enough to ask her who she is, then she reveals only two things.
The first one is her name.
“... Good evening, child,” a tall old man approached her, ignoring the whispers of other apparently teachers telling to be more careful, and smiled at her genuinely. “Please, do not worry. Would you be willing to tell us who you are? I am Ambrose the 63rd, the headmaster of this Academy.”
Yuu nodded and came a bit closer, realizing she was almost hiding behind the remains of the coffin she broke.
“I sincerely apologize for the damage I caused,” she bowed deeply, not noticing wide-eyed students. “My name is Yuu.”
“Yuu…” Ambrose repeated when she raised up. “Alright, Yuu. What happened here?”
“Ah..” She looked at the headmaster once more, then glanced at other students gathered here, thinking what she should say from now on. “I think I was asleep and then fell from the… coffin right here, which made me awake. Not long after that you came.”
“I see,” he replied, flickering his fingers and repairing the glassy lid as if no effort was implemented. “You’re quite eager to start the studying year, aren’t you?”
The headmaster smiled at her, and Yuu couldn’t help but reciprocate this smile.
“... I think I am,” she answered vaguely. The people here were exceptionally suspicious of her.
Even if they all smiled at her with a small number of students who were observing her carefully or seemed indifferent, they still weren’t quite eager to welcome her in this world, unlike the Princesses she’s met before.
“I’ll investigate the issue right after we finish the ceremony,” Ambrose told someone who stood next to him and nodded. “Now, please wait here.”
The headmaster and the group of five other people which apparently consisted of school staff went up to the ladder. Suddenly coffin lids started moving by itself in an opening way, floating midair and allowing peacefully sleeping students to finally wake up. Yuu gasped and then sighed in relief, genuinely happy that they weren’t under a curse spell or worse…
“Dear students!” Ambrose exclaimed when everyone woke up, thus making everyone go silent. “I am everlastingly happy to congratulate you with this very precious moment of starting your new school year. School is just one little step in the ladder of your lives, and yet remember that it is also one of the most important steps.
The students were quite excited to welcome the headmaster and couldn’t refrain from small talks, and Yuu also was exceedingly happy to hear people laugh and show their emotions so openly.
Someone’s hand brushed against hers accidentally, and the person apologized quickly before turning to their friend, but Yuu stared at her hand as if there was something on it. An ephemeral warmth on the back of her hand was so unfamiliar and foreign to her that she parted her lips and wanted to ask the person to touch her once more, but then the headmaster said that he will be calling people one by one by their names, and when you hear your name, you need to go up there.
All the students that the headmaster mentioned as ‘first years’ went up to him, and Yuu was watching them almost rushing up to there. Yuu wondered what was there that they hurried up with an uncovered excitement blooming on their faces.
“Seems like this year won’t be too tough for my dorm,” Yuu heard someone from the crowd of students that didn’t go up to the headmaster.
She was foreign to the concept of school itself. She heard some of the Princesses received a proper education but it was private. And public schools? How were the classes divided? How old were the first years? What do you get at the end of studying? How long do you need to study and—
“Good for you!” The other person’s voice was full of emotions and seemed rather young. “Mine feels like an explosion right now…”
And just right when Yuu was about to turn and witness two people talking, Ambrose called for her, the only remaining ‘first year’ student.
“Yuu,” the headmaster said. “Please come here.”
One little step in the ladder of your lives…
When Yuu went up to the headmaster, she bowed to him once more in order to show her gratitude for their cordial attitude expressed to her, an alien in this world, and gasped when she saw the one exact reason why everyone went here.
A sword.
Crimson roses twined around a heavy-handled silver sword with a mirror-like sheen. Yuu widened her eyes when she saw her reflection, and again, not in the mirror. She was unwilling to resist the extraordinary pull that this sword exuded, and unconsciously took a step forward, but immediately retreated when she felt the same aura build up that she felt from the mirror in her own estate.
“Now, please state your name to Excalibur,” Ambrose advised her, suggesting to step closer with a gentle gesture.
“My name is Yuu,” she said, concentrating her gaze on the sword apparently named Excalibur, and felt how her heart did an unexpected flip in her chest.
“Yuu…” The sword replied as Yuu jolted. A talking weapon?! “The soul of thine…”
A silence lingering in the air was ephemerally tranquil and peaceful but felt as aeon passing.
“Strange,” someone from the school staff whispered to the headmaster. “It’s usually not this long.”
“Tell me about it,” said another person who Yuu thought was a teacher.
Excalibur remained silent while shining so beautifully that Yuu couldn’t avert her gaze or concentrate on other students starting to ask what was wrong.
“Is something the matter?” Ambrose asked, looking rather worried.
“The soul of this young lady… it is uncertain.”
“YOUNG LADY?!”
“Hey, I thought it was just a pretty-looking boy?!!!”
“NO BECAUSE SHE’S A REAL BEAUTY??”
“But this is an all-boys school!”
“There must be a mistake, right?”
“Just how in the world…”
“Is her soul shape undefined because she’s a girl???”
“I don’t think that’s the case…”
Yuu drew her hands to the chest, turning around and seeing a crowd of young boys fussing over her gender reveal. A confused look on her face couldn’t escape Ambrose’s focused gaze locked on her.
“Dear students!” He exclaimed, trying to invoke the silence but a bunch of teenagers realizing there was a girl appeared hard to control all at once. “Oh…”
“Please continue,” said one of the teachers. Yuu threw a quick glance at him, noticing dark brown silky hair locks cascading on his cheeks when he bent over to whisper to the headmaster. “We’ll handle the rest. You should pay extra attention to the girl.”
Yuu frowned. It was getting more complicated with every second possible. She felt tired but the main goal was clear — she needed to know why she came here in the first place.
When other teachers helped the one who talked to the headmaster coordinating students and Yuu and Ambrose were the only ones standing before the sword, she swallowed nervously.
“Uhm… Mister Ambrose the 63rd, may I ask, is there something wrong with me?”
Ambrose turned to her, giving her a reassuring smile, and patted her head.
A hand. A warm and caring hand caused her to bite her lip to hold the excitement growing in her.
“Worry not, lady Yuu,” he replied. “Everything’s alright.”
“Are you sure?.. It seems the sword doesn’t… feel happy to see me.”
“Nonsense,” Ambrose chuckled softly. “The only thing that worries me is your eyes full of overwhelming sadness.”
Just when Yuu parted her lips to answer, the sword suddenly awakened, radiating a warm light.
“The lady wields a powerful magic within her,” it said. “Yet no current dormitory suits her soul shape. Therefore it would be wise to arrange her to the long-forgotten one.”
“Long-forgotten…” Ambrose repeated after the sword. “Do you mean…”
“The lady belongs to Sidhery.”
Belongs.
‘Belongs’ was a strange word to Yuu. To belong somewhere meant that there was a place where she could return to and be welcomed. Yuu entered this realm for the very first time, and yet was there really something she could have returned to? Was there someone who waited for her? No, that wasn’t the case, it couldn’t be unless there was a Princess who was captured and needed to be rescued.
Yuu almost forgot her main goal and her own role. Princesses’ worlds resembled soap bubbles — they were fragile and restrained, limited dimensions where only Yuu could have seen the end. Princesses were oblivious that they live within a fairytale, they never tried to step out of the path paved for them. If they were destined to meet the Princes, then they couldn’t break the law of the fairytales and reach a dead end like Yuu did in their realms.
Which meant if there were a place she could belong to, she would find its dead end soon, too.
Yuu looked at the headmaster whose eyes widened at the sword’s words and frowned.
“Yuu,” Ambrose turned to her, bending over slightly, his eyes right in front of hers. “Would you mind explaining who you are in more detail in my office, please? It seems this is a rather complicated case.”
“Yes.”
Yuu bowed to the sword before following the headmaster who seemed a bit amused with her mannerisms, and then opened the door leading to another hall covered in darkness.
With every headmaster’s step, candelabras on the walls were lightening up, revealing cabinets filled with peculiar vials and curious-looking things. The marble floor thudded with their footsteps, and when Yuu glanced up at the ceiling, she saw sumptuous chandeliers with myriads of brilliant drops of crystal.
Her curiosity knew no boundaries, but she tried to refrain from coming closer and observing the beauty of the magic academy she got in, following the headmaster with small steps. Ambrose chuckled at her uncovered interest sparkling with a cheerful light in her eyes.
“Ladies first.” He opened the door before her and smiled.
“Ah, no need to…” Yuu answered, confused because of the cordial politeness he expressed, but still proceeded further after Ambrose gestured to her to enter his office.
She breathed in enthusiastically, drawing her hands to her lips as she entered the headmaster's office. The marble floor gave way to a brick-colored surface of red oak, over which was spread a huge azure carpet with gilded patterns resembling lotus flowers. On the carpet was a table the same color as the floor, and was surrounded by three long couches with aquamarine upholstery. Wall-to-wall window frames allowed the rays of the setting sun to freely invade the study, illuminating the tall bookshelves crammed with a wide variety of books.
Yuu looked up, trying to carefully examine the ledges of the mezzanines, on which climbing plants were located, wrapping around the railing in an openwork net. Her gaze couldn't catch on to one thing, and Yuu hesitated as Ambrose moved on down a small staircase leading to an extension of the office, in the center of which was a huge grandfather clock; Yuu saw similar ones in Cinderella's mansion. Behind the clock were transparent glass shutters, which the headmaster opened with a light wave of his magic wand, and led Yuu to his desk. Objects lay neatly on the surface, but at the same time seemed to have a life of their own. The teapot seemed to perk up, beginning a leisurely dance as the china cups playfully tapped as they hurriedly went onto their saucers.
Cozy atmosphere differed drastically from her own mansion covered in darkness, the lights were cold and almost deadly unwelcoming. Yuu threw a glance on the chair before Ambrose told her to take a seat and offered a cup of tea.
The headmaster's office was filled with the aroma of strong tea, poppy seed buns, and gingerbread cookies with honey. Yuu allowed herself to close her eyes for a moment and enjoy the variety of smells of food and treats.
“Is the office to your liking?” He asked, making sure the tea isn’t too hot so she won’t burn her fragile fingers.
“Yes, it is!!” She answered eagerly before realizing she sounded too loud, and apologized. “I-I’m sorry…”
“No need to be sorry, child,” Ambrose smiled at her. “Now, please, let’s talk. Do not worry, I will not harm you. You’re safe here in RSA. Could have been worse if you ended up in… No, forgive me.”
“Yes?..”
Outside the window, the dreary cry of seagulls was heard. Was there a sea nearby?
“So, Yuu. I believe you noticed that our Royal Sword Academy is a school for boys only. Do you know how the enrolling system works?”
“I’m afraid I don’t.”
“Depending on the magic abilities of the student, a pumpkin and mice appear and turn into a sparkling coach with four white horses and take the student,” Ambrose explained.
Yuu’s eyes widened. A pumpkin turning into a coach? It was Fairy Godmother’s magic!! Yuu leaned forward with an interest and a genuine excitement. Was her Mother here?!
“I can tell you hear this information for the first time?” Yuu nodded. She knew how to turn a pumpkin into a coach but she wasn’t sure if it was what happened to her and was quite reluctant to reveal she went here willingly through a mirror in her mansion. “Then Yuu, I have a question. Would you please answer honestly?”
Yuu was hesitant. Her whole body trembled at the mere thought of lying to such a wonderful and kind person who showed only cordiality to her, but at the same time she never told Princesses the purpose of her visit. They never asked, yes, and yet it felt wrong to reveal all the cards in her sleeve yet.
“... I will try,” she didn’t want to lie in the end.
“I see,” Ambrose nodded. “You may have your secrets, child, I won’t harm you as I’ve already mentioned. My goal is to help you escape from the predicament you happened to be trapped in.”
Predicament? Trapped? Yuu wasn’t sure if the wording was correct but decided to let it be as it is.
“The very fact you’re a female makes your staying here quite complicated for us,” he started to explain, taking a sip of the tea. “But even if Excalibur made a mistake, it wouldn't assign you to a certain dormitory. You see, Yuu,” she chuckled softly at the rhyme. “Dormitories in our school serve not only as facilities for living there during the studying. Students are sorted according to their magic abilities and soul shapes.”
“Soul shapes?” She repeated.
“Yes, exactly. For example, students that have demonstrated bravery throughout their lives are assigned to a one dorm, but students that know no boundaries and are eager to curiously observe the world are sorted into another dorm.”
Yuu listened to the explanation, nodding from time to time.
“The dorm you were assigned to, Sidhery…” Ambrose massaged his temples with his fingers, and she wanted to apologize for being quite a burden at the moment, but he stopped her with a gentle smile, suggesting she should drink some tea, and she followed. “It is an abandoned dormitory. I have no records of what it was founded on.”
Yuu smiled bitterly. She never should have thought that she could belong somewhere, and this was the proof.
“No magic traces were also spotted,” he added. “I’m afraid… we should send you home, Yuu.”
Yuu tensed. She came here for answers and couldn’t just leave without obtaining them. Her very meaning of existence was helping out others, but did she help someone? No, the only thing she did was cause inconveniences to people.
But then again, she often used to return to her own realm whenever she visited Princesses in theirs. Yuu bit her lip, trying to come up with a plan instantly. Thoughts were whirling in her mind, causing her to take a deep breath in order to try sorting them out.
Coming back home for a retreat didn’t sound so bad. The mirror through which she came here won’t disappear until she solves the main problem of this world, so if she returns home for a moment and then comes back, maybe not here in RSA but somewhere else within this world, then she might obtain more information.
“Yes, I understand,” she finally answered. “Please tell me what to do.”
“First let us return to the Excalibur.”
Yuu nodded and they came back to the place of which Yuu thought of as a ballroom, and came closer to the sword.
“Now, Excalibur,” Ambrose called. “Please let this child return to where she belongs.”
Yuu frowned again. Did she… really belong to where she came from?
“State your name and the place where you came from,” the headmaster told her and Yuu nodded reluctantly.
Was it wise to reveal?
“My name is Yuu,” she took a deep breath. “I came from the Fairy Queendom.”
Yuu heard Ambrose gasping but remained her gaze fixated on the sword, not noticing the headmaster’s eyes widening.
“I know no place named Fairy Queendom,” the sword replied, as if sentencing Yuu to death.
“How come?..” Ambrose asked, flickering fingers and creating a wave of light sparkles. “Excalibur, send this child to the Fairy Queendom.”
“There’s no such place.”
“Child,” Ambrose knelt before her on one knee, grabbing her by the shoulders and looking into her eyes. “Are you sure this is the place you came from?”
“I am sure, headmaster, but…”
“To be completely honest, I know no such place either. I have knowledge of my ancestors, and I’m afraid even if I search this name in the books I have in my property, I won’t find anything regarding the Fairy Queendom. Please elaborate.”
“I-I… Please let me try it myself once more.”
Yuu summoned her magic wand and concentrated on visualizing the place where she came from. A beautiful garden she took care of, a variety of flowers surrounded by her little helpers, Sprites that would be, the dark starless sky upfolding above her head, and her mansion with majestic towering columns.
The transfer between different worlds spell was silent and wordless, but required a lot of visualization from the magician. Yuu remembered every crack on the brick walls, every thorn embracing the wicket, every Sprite and every butterfly flying around. Magic was accumulating under her skin, sending an electrical impulse down her spine, but she jolted when a shock wave almost paralyzed her, causing Yuu to drop her magic wand and fall on her knees.
“Child!!” Ambrose rushed to her. “What are you doing?! Are you okay?”
“Y-yes, no need to worry. It seems… I can’t… return home yet…”
Genuine worry appeared on her face, revealing how unprepared for this outcome she was. Her hands trembled not because of the failed spell, but because of a panic crawling within, tangling her stomach and making her shiver. No way. There was no way she couldn’t come back, it never happened before, then why!..
“It is unwise to send back home a student who was accepted,” the sword said, radiating a warm light. “Student Yuu should start her studyings here and proceed until she graduates.”
“But she was assigned to Sidhery!” Ambrose exclaimed. “How in the world…”
Yuu bowed deeply, not raising even when Ambrose told her to do so.
“I apologize for causing you trouble. If there is punishment for me, then I am willing to accept it.”
“Child, what are you saying,” the headmaster came closer to her. “You’re just as confused as we all are. Moreover, Excalibur is right. I can’t neglect you once you are accepted here. From now on, you are a full student of the Royal Sword Academy.”
Yuu couldn’t register what happened next. She felt how strong yet loveable hands enveloped her in a warm embrace, and she tensed without realizing. Why would a person who saw her for the first time in his life, to whom she caused an unbelievable amount of troubles, — hug her?..
“I…”
“But,” Ambrose said, still not letting go of her, moreover tightening his hug. “I believe I need to report to the government about you.”
Yuu jolted, escaping the hug and already missing the parental warmth of the headmaster. No, no… Previously she never contacted someone who wasn’t a Princess. Or at least a Villain. But the government?.. Fairy Godmother never told her what the government even was, Yuu remembered learning the term from… Was it Esmeralda?
“No need to worry, you’re under my protection from now on. I won’t report until I observe your case myself, child,” Ambrose reassured her, but Yuu found herself biting her lip in hesitance.
“Yuu, listen to me. I won’t harm you. Ever. Nothing will happen while you stay under my protection. Now, let me show you your dormitory, alright?”
“Yes, headmaster…”
Yuu was tired but she had no right to retreat or rest yet. She nodded and followed the headmaster.
Soon they were in a room resembling a library. A grimoire levitated in the center under the bright light of the setting sun. The headmaster warned Yuu that she'd better hold his hand if she wasn't used to traveling through mirrors. Yuu nodded, deciding that being an alien, she'd better follow his advice despite being more than familiar with the mirror surface.
“Take us to Sidhery,” Ambrose whispered, and the grimoire opened a certain page. Yuu managed to catch ‘Once upon a time…’ written at the very beginning of a damp yellowed page. How peculiar! Even transportation to the dormitory resembled a fairytale.
A large mirror appeared before them, paving a path strewn with little golden stars forming constellations of different kinds. Yuu took her first step with a beaming curiosity, almost forgetting to never let go of the headmaster’s hand. He smiled at her, finding her personality resembling a mischievous child's.
A light breeze enveloped her as soon as her hand plunged into the watery surface of the mirror, and as soon as she opened her eyes again, she and the director found themselves on a spacious slope. Yuu stared in fascination at the huge clock tower rising in front of her, and watched the hurried movement of the second hand on the dial. The headmaster graciously suggested that she proceed forward, opening the heavy front doors for her, and overhanging chandeliers, resembling street lamps more, immediately lit up the hall with light.
“Headmaster… I’m not sure if this is a dormitory.”
“Indeed,” he nodded, stepping in with his steps echoing in the empty hall. “You’re right. It is no longer a dormitory. To be more precise, I can’t recall when it was a dorm, but according to the notes left by my ancestors, there were two more buildings attached to the main clock tower but happened to be destroyed. The building is used mainly for ringing bells determining the time. It rings at midnight and notifies that the period has started or ended. I am sorry to cause you such an inconvenience, but you will hear the bell ringing during your stay.”
“Ah, that is alright,” Yuu reassured, following the headmaster. “I will manage.”
“I don’t feel right forcing you to stay here when you’re a little lost child but there’s no other way out yet…” Ambrose frowned. “Alright, Yuu, this is your room from now on.”
A perfectly made bed with a red oak table across from it, several bookcases, a closet, and a full wall window just to the left of the bed. Enough to settle here for a while.
“You’re free to go upstairs to the clock tower main room, but please refrain from touching anything there. One of the school staff will visit it once a week to make sure everything’s alright, he will let you know when he’ll visit beforehand.” Yuu nodded. “Regarding other needs, such as food and clothes…”
“I can’t own you more things, headmaster… There’s no need in spending money on me more than it’s necessary.”
“Just where did you learn to behave like that, child?” Ambrose sighed without any malice. “You need at least a school uniform set suited for you. I’ll let our tailor know that you need a skirt and a blouse—”
“Skirt? Why?” Yuu blinked, not quite understanding why put so much effort into making her feel comfortable. “I can wear this uniform I am wearing right now.”
“As much as I understand your politeness, child, it is unwise to use this uniform. This one is suited for special occasions only. You can’t wear it during school activities.”
“Ah… I understand… But there’s no need to sew a skirt for me! I believe there will be trousers the size of mine… If anything, I can sew it myself if provided with the right patterns.”
“Alright, alright,” Ambrose chuckled. “Trousers it is. But as for the food and other necessities, I will provide you with a decent amount of money needed. You girls love to buy a lot of fancy things, right?..”
“Fancy things?” Yuu repeated, seeming rather puzzled at the statement. “No need, headmaster. Being able to buy food is already a huge privilege, I don’t feel right borrowing from you”
“School uniform sets and food. It’s settled then.”
The headmaster preferred to ignore her fixated gaze and a small pout.
“Let’s talk tomorrow, child,” he said. “Now suit yourself and get some rest, alright?”
“Yes… thank you very much for your concern and everything you did for me.”
“Sleep well.”
Yuu fell on the bed right when he left, leaving her all alone. She snapped her fingers, summoning a familiar pink butterfly, and let corners of her lips curve upwards.
The day was tough. Yuu tried to grasp the gist of what happened during the start of her adventure, not noticing her facial expression became confused, and a slight glimpse of fatigue was seen in her eyes. She got up, following the butterfly she summoned right to the closet, opening it and sighing in relief when a nightgown was found. She didn’t know if it was used by someone before, but decided to leave the closer observation of her surroundings for later, summoning her magic wand. Doing chores with magic wasn't a complicated process, all that was required was her imagination of how the clothes would look if they were clean and dry. Even if a plain white nightgown seemed clean already, Yuu needed it to be exceptionally neat and have a sweet fragrance.
While changing into fresh clothes, she also thought it would be wise to not use her own magic in public too much until she understands how it works here in the first place. Princesses were mostly unaware of magic presence in their lives until it was suddenly revealed. Come to think of it, Princesses mainly didn’t have magic at all. People who possessed sorcery were mainly villains. The other way to obtain magic or its impact was to be cursed by evil forces.
She saw Ambrose using magic. It looked a bit similar to the methods she used herself, yet felt different. Her magic resembled a gentle lullaby, a tender whisper full of care and warmth, when Ambrose’s magic seemed more persistent. The way his brows twitched before he casted a spell made Yuu think he was concentrating on gathering his energy or magic flows—if there were any—in his veins before mentally shaping a spell and vivify it.
Her own magic was like a second skin, her most dearest companion and even friend. Yuu didn’t know how it should have been portrayed in a correct way since Fairy Godmother never told her, only teaching her how the magic can be controlled and to what categories spells are divided into. Yuu was a girl eager for knowledge, thus she did magic research herself, once casting a wrong spell and turning her beloved Sprites into the Imps and putting Princesses into danger.
“Argh! This is so embarrassing…” She talked to herself, burying her head in a pillow, covering herself with a thin blanket.
Her task was to save someone. Normally there was a Princess, frail and poor, waiting for the Fairy Godmother to come and save her, but Yuu haven’t seen her overseer for over a hundred years herself.
“I miss her so bad,” she told the butterfly who danced around, its wings flattering silently. “I wonder if she’s okay…”
Then again, she never changed her clothes when transferred into another world, so this case was exceptional. Moreover, the fact that she couldn’t return to the Fairy Queendom was extremely concerning, causing Yuu to swallow nervously and—
The clock struck midnight, but Yuu heard a commotion outside of the room, as if something just crushed or fell on the floor.
“What the?!”
Yuu jumped from the bed, instantly summoning her magic wand in case something dangerous happened, and approached the door barefooted. She blinked, focusing on the hearing, but no sounds were produced. She opened the door just enough for the butterfly to fly away and return ten seconds after.
“Everything’s alright?” She asked her little helper, and when the butterfly made a low flip, Yuu nodded. “No, it’s okay, don’t worry. I’ll manage.”
Understanding voiceless creatures was one of her best abilities, and after watching her butterfly closely, Yuu realized that there was someone but the little creature couldn’t register who exactly and what they were doing.
Yuu proceeded further, standing right at the corridor centre, and was ready to defend. Attack if needed.
A silhouette appeared at the end of the corridor, but Yuu couldn’t catch how in the world did she miss the arrival in the first place. It felt as if they materialized right in the air.
A person was approaching her with an insane speed of running, and when she heard their steps just right next to her, she turned around and almost bumped into a boy before dodging him and sending a butterfly to chase him.
“Oh dear, oh dear!!”
A boy with medium-length, copper-colored hair flashed past her, leaving behind a bright scent of fresh herbs and ozonated air, as if he had recently been caught in the rain, was dressed in a blue pajamas and ended up almost tripping on her foot, turning around for a split second and closing his mouth to say something, but then he came to his senses.
He threw a quick glance at her, and the second after proceeded uncontrollable “WHAAA!”, the boy slid across the hallway. The scrunchie that barely held back the small ponytail came loose from his hair, and his curls blew across his face, disheveled, getting into his eyes and catching on his long lashes.
The boy cursed rather poetically and dodged the wall lamp with virtuosity when he finally managed to scatter strands of his hair to the sides, revealing his beautiful eyes glowing blue in the moonlight.
The marble floors were slippery enough to inadvertently tuck one’s foot on them, but the smell of dampness that wafted in a slight trail after the boy’s silhouette, indicated that he got soaked somewhere under the rain before he got here.
The boy rode across the floor and collapsed on it, preventing a painful fall with his hand and tipping over on a soft spot, and then instantly jumped up and rushed on, as if nothing had happened.
He turned back once more, and hasty fear flashed in his eyes, and he rushed further away.
“I shall be too late!!” He said drawlingly. “Or was it Oh my ears and whiskers? I’m late, I’m late I’m late!.. Hehe!” He said playfully, as if quoting someone… something?
“Am I dreaming..?”
Yuu asked herself when she saw a giant hole appearing right on the floor, and the boy jumped right into it, disappearing with a flash.
She was so bewildered and disoriented for a second that she didn’t notice another person apparently chasing (Yuu would say casually taking a stroll than chasing actually) after the boy. A man, looking older than the boy but still seeming quite young, was approaching Yuu (though showing zero interest in her) and trying to catch up with the fleeing student. She was mesmerized as she noticed long silky hair flowing down his shoulders and back, and... did it reach the floor?!
“I suggest you stop~”
A suddenly youthful and charming voice made Yuu stop instead of the boy who was already out of her sight.
“Oh, good evening, young lady, see you tomorrow,” Yuu blinked at the sudden greeting and just nodded incomprehensibly. “I See the Light!!”
Yuu couldn’t grasp what the hell was upfolding before her but decided to let it be and… enjoy the mess?.. She then heard the boy screaming somewhere down the hole and blinked twice. Or thrice.
The person jumped right in the closing hole and the second he fell down continuing screaming something to the boy, the hole closed, leaving no traces of it.
The butterfly she summoned returned to her, expressing emotions not so different from her own.
“Was I hallucinating just now? In any case, let’s ask the headmaster tomorrow…”
She returned to her room, trying to analyze what she saw and draw a conclusion, but a shadow of fatigue towered above her, lulling her to sleep. Right when she closed her eyes, ready to be taken into Morpheus’s gentle embrace, she felt something foreign right at her left.
She snapped her eyes open and saw a flying head and one arm in front of her, screaming in horror. A hand reached for her ear, brushing it slightly before Yuu could register what was happening and jumped from the bed once again, taking a defense pose and frowning.
“Good nyavning~ Nice pointy ears, by the nyay~”
This day happened to be never ending.

Hi, Hello
Tumblr media
Pairing: Sunwoo x Undercover Spy! Reader
Length: 653 words Genre: meet-cute(?), spy au!
Warnings: Rewrite, two bonuses, sunwoo pov at the end, reader is called Agent B, use of New's legal name (Chanhee), club setting, talks of organs, talk of organs not working, lots of smirking, lots of use of the word 'Target', flirting, sunwoo is referred to as eye candy
Synopsis: While on a mission, you might become distracted with chatting up with a cute piece of eye candy.
Note: this is a rewrite of an imagine with the same concept. this is a stand alone, there aren't many elements shared between the two nor is the original referenced. if youve read the original, you might see that is going in an entire different direction and vibe. though none of that means that the two imagines couldn't be connected (does that sentence make sense; no clue)
── ⋆⋅ಇ ⋅⋆ ─── ⋆⋅ ಇ ⋅⋆ ─── ⋆⋅ ಇ⋅⋆ ──
"Agent B, please focus on the mission rather than who you find to be attractive," the voice on your earcom reprimanded. You rolled your eyes, you have the target within your sights. But who could blame you if you also paid attention to some eye candy. Plus, did it really count as being distracted if it was a possible in? So while your suspect was busy flirting and dancing, you'd make an advance while doing the same. As you made direct eye contact with the male, you smirked before hiding it behind your drink.
"Chill out, Hak. I'm a pro, remember" you muttered into your cup, knowing that said man would be able to hear you. Watching from the corner of your eye, your target began walking out of the crowd. You followed subtly, blending in with the mass of people while keeping them in your view. You stopped as they walked into the bathroom, and made yourself comfortable in your new spot.
"Hi," a voice yelled to you over the music. You turned, and there stood your eye candy from before. He was even better looking up close though you wouldn't let him distract from the important task at hand. Nonetheless, masking your shock at his re-appearance, you smiled at him.
"Hello," you responded, adding a tilt to the word and your voice.
"I'm Sunwoo; what's your name?"
You hummed, a cheeky grin growing on your face. "
Nice to meet Sunwoo," you said, ignoring the second part of his sentence. Said male raised an eyebrow in silence before chuckling.
"No Name?"
"Well, Sunwoo, I think a little chase is nice. Don't you agree?" You smirked as you said the words.
He nodded, leaning in close to whisper into your ear. "I can handle a little chase." Sunwoo pulled back, his eyes twinkled with mischief and a proud smirk on his face. You returned it, pressing a finger on Sunwoo's chest before your body followed it into his space. You didn't get to respond as your earcom interrupted.
"Check your ten."
Stealing a look in that direction, you saw your target leaving the bathroom. Instead of heading back to the dance floor, they were booking it for the exit. "I'll see you around, pretty boy," you said, stepping back and slowly dragging your finger away from the male. The smirk never fading from your face as you did so.
"Leaving already?" He furrowed his eyebrows, his bottom lip slightly jutting out, seemingly showing his disappointment. If you thought Sunwoo was attractive before, he had managed to make himself cuter. You had to remind yourself of his alleged closeness to the target; and to not fall into his possible trap though it already seemed too late.
"I thought you liked a chase?" you rhetorically called out. You walked away from Sunwoo, your lips still upturned despite him not being able to see your face, expertly slipping between the people.
Bonus
"Not distracted, my ass. You would've lost the target if not for me," Haknyeon scolded you. You avoided eye contact with the younger, knowing that you had gotten a little too caught up with Sunwoo.
"Were they cute, at least?" Chanhee piped in, still wearing his undercover bartender outfit.
"Oh, yeah. The cutest," you replied. You then started to describe Sunwoo to Chanhee, squealing and laughing over the flirty interaction. Haknyeon rolled his eyes, muttering under his breath before joining the gossip.
Bonus Bonus
Sunwoo watched as the mysterious person disappeared into the crowd. The interaction had left his organs misworking. His heart was about to burst out of his chest from the way it rapidly beat, while his lungs felt constricted and unable to contract. But he felt determined to met them again; Sunwoo had meant it when he had said those now damning words. Two could play at this kind of game, and he'd be sure to come out as the winner.

DICK GRAYSON ౨ৎ
Tumblr media

The Plan
Tumblr media
warnings: mention of marriage, talks about killing, dialogue heavy
synopsis: Having sent Y/N off to safety, Taemin gets to work. He meets with those he trusts to figure out how to keep you safe further on while gaining information.
note: this was more difficult than 'the letter' but i've got it done 🤙. this didn't exactly come out like i envisioned this scene but i'm happy enough with all the details i've managed 😌
── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ─── ⋆⋅☆⋅⋆ ──
I'll come by later tonight, don't worry about me" Taemin told Y/N as he brought her into a hug. He pressed a kiss onto the side of her head before separating from her. Taemin and Jimin shared a look with one another as Y/N got into the other male's car, He watched as Jimin drove off, waiting until the ear was no longer in his eye sight to get into his own vehicle. Taemin texted his colleagues as he headed back into the town. He had learned his lesson to trust the people around him to help.
"Am I last?" Key asked as he walked into the office. He nodded to those he knew while settling into one of the chairs.
"'So that letter turned out to important, huh?" Taeyong sarcastically asked Taemin. Ten interrupted him with a flair of dramatic exsparation.
"What's going on?" he asked, looking towards the head of the table where the brown-haired male sat. "And what letter?" Ten continued turning to stare at Taeyong as well.
"You got a letter?" Minho spoke for the first time. "Like the ones for missions" he continued as he stood up from his seat. Taemin gestured for the older male to sit back down.
"If you stop asking me questions, I'll tell you everything I know" the brown-haired male said as he rubbed his temple in slight annoyance. Taemin passed the letter to his left, handing it to the former detective to look over.
Wait a minute, what about Onew? Or Shay or even Jimin?" Kai brought up, bringing attention to himself with a small raised hand.
"They're on their honeymoon, let's not bother them unless completely necessary. Jimin already knows, I've got him doing something for me right now. Ill update him later tonight based on what we decide in this meeting" Taemin said but his eyes were watching as the letter went through the other's hands.
"What does this mean for those of us not involved with the academy?" Key asked with a raised eyebrow as he crossed his leg.
"It means that they're planning on killing her" Minho said plainly.
"So I need to figure out a way to keep her safe until I can handle it" Taemin interjected. "It's why I asked Jimin to stay at one of his houses" he continued, taking the letter back and resisting the urge to crumble it. "I've already asked for Kai to handle the documents as well".
"Me and Taeyong know someone in America and Japan. We could contact them" Ten spoke as the after-mentioned male nodded.
"And I've got a contact in Canada if anything" Key added.
"That might be a risk. My cousin, Mark, works for the academy and has Canadian citizenship" Taeyong pointed out to the group but looking at Taemin.
The brown-haired male hummed as he considered the options. "Right now, call your person in Japan. But prepare to travel if needed, I don't want to send V/N off alone" he decided before turning to Minho and Key. "And can I have you talk to your contacts to find anything out" he begged the two older men.
"I'll call around. There's no reason for you to go through what I had to" Minho agreed, already standing up from his chair. Key stood as well, saying his final words with a nod in Taemin's direction.
"I'll go talk to the guy we know and work out travel plans" Ten said as he grabbed the blond's arm to pull him out of the room. Taeyong sent a playful salute to the brown-haired male. He turned to his best friend at the sound of him clearing his throat.
"What?" Taemin asked the raven-hair male as he placed his hand under his chin, leaning onto the left side of his chair.
"Don't you think Shay is gonna be pissed that they didn't know about the academy threatening Y/N's life? Didn't you say that the two are practically siblings?" Kai mentioned, leaning back into his own chair. The smirk on his face was condescending and Taemin knew he was rubbing the fact in his face.
"That's why I don't want to tell them until I have it figured out" Taemin said through gritted teeth. "Shay would be more pissed if I wasn't doing anything" he continued before sighing as he thought back. 'I barely was able to convince Shay that I was good enough to be dating Y/N" Taemin mentioned, bringing his hand down to his lap as he dropped his head onto the back of the chair. Kai laughed, almost falling of the seat doing so, at his statement. He shook his head, stood up with a wish of good luck; an chuckle still on his lips. Taemin knew he would need luck in this situation with more than just Shay.

Blue Ribbon
Distracted from his work by you, he decided to use your special blue ribbon for another purpose.
ಇ. Zayne x Female Reader/MC
ಇ. Tags: fluff, established relationship, MC being a baby, tied hands, soft bite
ಇ. Word count: ~1k4
ಇ. Requested by Ann.
ಇ. Masterlist
Tumblr media
It initially started out as a date between you and Zayne.
You had planned ahead of time, opted for a light spring outfit, and wore a long blue ribbon in your hair with two tiny snowflake-shaped charms at both ends. You decided on it because it reminded you of Zayne.
You arrived at the hospital fifteen minutes before the scheduled date. Zayne was yet to leave his office. Yvonne informed you about an important meeting that Dr. Zayne needed to attend. You sat and waited outside his office for a while. Then, as if he knew you had arrived, he opened the door and welcomed you inside.
"Would that bother your work?" You inquired, and Zayne shook his head.
"Not a problem. The meeting has ended. There are only a few more things I need to take care of. Is it alright if you wait a little longer?"
You nodded. The office door closed behind him. For nearly the next hour, you obediently waited in the room. Feeling bored, you took out your phone to play with, wandered about the room, or sipped some tea. Zayne was still working intently on the computer as if you were not present. Sometimes, you could not help but feel a little sorry for yourself.
He failed to even glance at you, let alone praise you on how gentle your makeup was that day. Despite the fact that you were fully aware of Zayne's work ethic and the significance of his work, that afternoon was intended to be for you rather than the computer. The main reason you disagreed with it was that he lately had to work hard for several days in a row. You made him commit to spend time with you that afternoon. However, something unexpected occurred, causing his shift to be prolonged.
You felt both saddened and disappointed. You would sometimes approach him and poke him, as if to remind him that you still existed and that he needed to interact with you, even if only for a few minutes. His eyes remained fixed on the screen, his hands raced on the keyboard, and he spoke:
“Don't mess around. I'm almost done.”
Hearing that, you sighed again. When he stated he was almost done, it meant that his session lasted for nearly another hour. It was no longer dusk. You lamented your plan to go for an afternoon walk around Linkon City. But seeing him as a workaholic upset you so much. Finally, you decided that you would carry out your "scheme".
You got between him and the monitor. At first, you just stood there obstructing his view. Zayne gently drew you out of there  when you took the opportunity to take his hand and sat on his lap. Zayne seemed astonished, but his intense concentration prevented him from saying anything further to you. He let you sit on his lap, arms wrapped around you, and resumed typing.
Anger swelled in your heart. Even though you had no idea how urgent his business was, you did not appreciate being left out on your own date. He made a promise to spend the afternoon with you, and if there was an emergency, he would certainly let you know and reschedule the date rather than keep you waiting like this. Apparently, he just loved to work overtime.
In Zayne's lap, your body started to move. You deliberately turned around to wrap both arms around Zayne's neck. Your whisper found its way to his ear:
“Doctor Zayne, you promised to spend the afternoon with me. But you don't pay attention to me even just for a minute."
"Be still." Zayne's voice remained courteous and full of patience. "I still have another urgent meeting—"
"No!" You interrupted him. “Your shift ended a few hours ago.”
You felt Zayne's breath on your forehead as he replied: "Good girl. Please wait a bit longer."
But you chose not to be good. You gave him a pout before pressing your body close to his chest. You seized him firmly and kept urging:
“Take a break! Take a break! Doctor Zayne!”
Zayne was literally an iceberg. He was unmoved by your whining. You grew so helpless that you nibbled hard on his ear.
“Hmmph!”
Perhaps that was Zayne's limit. His expression stiffened. He grabbed your wrist and pulled you off his lap. His other hand swiftly removed the blue ribbon from your head, forcing your already tidy hair to fall down.
You blinked with astonishment. You could only stand there and watch Zayne knot both of your hands with that ribbon. The knot was so tight that your wrists could not move at all. Zayne rose up, brought you down in his chair, and frowned.
"Stay there. I'm heading to the meeting hall and will be back later."
After finishing his speech, he picked up a file on the table and quickly walked out. After the door was closed, you sat still in disbelief of what had just transpired. It appeared like he had bound your hands using a surgeon's knot, which is widely used in surgery. This sort of knot required a lot of work to remove. You moved your hands around, just to make those minimal snowflake charms swing as if they were mocking you that Zayne had actually used his Evol to keep you in place.
You were speechless that Zayne would do that only to stop you from disturbing him. You were alone in his office, stunned and bitter. Perhaps you went too far when you bit him. You should have been more reasonable and waited for him to finish his work. You had waited for him longer than this before. Had you upset him? You were torn between sulking at him and apologizing first.
Zayne returned about a half hour later to undo the knot for you. He took you out to supper and then returned to your apartment. Throughout the ride, you spoke nothing to Zayne but a few quick responses as necessary. You still were not sure how to adequately express how you felt for him. What if he got mad and was ready to tie you up again?
But you were not expecting Zayne to grasp your hands as soon as you arrived home. He took a close look and massaged your wrists.
“Does it hurt a lot?”
He asked. You withdrew your hands again and turned away.
"No."
He could tell you were sulking by the tone of your speech. He pulled you back and embraced you from behind. It was his turn to explain:
"I'm really sorry. Today's work was so urgent that I could not postpone it until tomorrow. On another note, you may do whatever you want when it's just the two of us; but at work, it's not a smart idea. Since, if you continue to be naughty like that, I would…”
“What would you do, Doctor Zayne?” You were curious, and got the urge to tease him even more.
“I would be too distracted.”
"Alright. I'm sorry, too..." You smiled and spoke sweetly, yet there was a hint of huff in your voice. "But you didn't need to tie me up like that."
You struggled like a worm in his embrace. Zayne easily held you tightly with just one arm, the other hand stroked your hair.
"Alright. It is my fault. I should not have tied you up and left you at the office. I will compensate for you, okay?"
You remained silent while waiting for him to offer a good proposal.
"My entire day off tomorrow is dedicated to you."
"Hmm." You seemed less than satisfied. You turned around and gazed into Zayne's eyes. "I still want one more thing."
Zayne grinned, "Sure."
"You don't know what I'm going to ask for, and you've already agreed? Once you've said it, you can't take it back!"
He patted your head and reaffirmed: "I won't take it back."
You smiled as if you were plotting something, then pulled out your blue ribbon and lifted it in front of Zayne. It was time for him to feel the thrill of being tied with his own surgeon's knot. You requested:
"Show me how to tie that knot!"

Whenever you were around her she always made you feel at home so you did the same for her, that’s what made it easier for her to come out to you. She came out as transgender to you which she was nervous about at first but you reassured her that you still loved her, which was true she’s your best friend regardless of who she is. When you accepted her she felt seen, she felt heard, and loved. When it came to you she knew she could tell you everything without being afraid of judgement; and vice versa to you.
This is how the conversation of her coming out went; “Y/n can I talk to you?” “Yeah sure what’s up?” “I need to talk about something important” “I’m ready” you say sitting down. She continued “I’ve been thinking about this for awhile and I cant hide it anymore, I know I am transgender and I thought I would come out to you” “well thank you for coming out to me, I am beyond happy for you that you feel safe enough to come out to me” you say as you both smile. “Of course I feel safe with you, always.”
“Well I’m glad you feel safe here, just like you always told me; My house is your house and you know you’re always welcome here” you responded as she gave you an emotional hug. “You remember that silly quote from our childhood?” “Of course I do it always helps me to get through things that make me nervous to talk about and just things in general” “vice versa.” You look over at her “now I can do your make up and go clothes shopping with you” your face lit up as she smiled that it meant a lot to you.
She looked over at you smiling as she asked “you want to do my makeup?” You squeal with happiness running upstairs to her room to get your makeup bag that you keep there, she is lucky to have someone like you as a best friend. You came downstairs sitting on the couch handing her your makeup pallets so she can pick the color of the look. “What color you want?” “How about an all pink look but one of the shimmery pinks for the eyeshadow?” “Oooo, sounds good to me” you smile as you open up your eyeshadow pallet first.
You let her do her foundation and concealer first before you start doing the eyeshadow. “You want a light pink shimmer or a dark pink shimmery?” “Light pink” she answered as you picked up the eye shadow brush. You swiped it lightly so you don’t pick up too much pigment and started applying it to one eyelid at a time. You added a little more pigment because it wasn’t as shiny as she wanted so you happily added another layer. When you got done you put the brush on a paper towel so you can clean it off later tonight.
You grabbed your pink highlighter and other supplies you needed that she didn’t put on, you put the rest on her then handing her a hand held mirror so she can see the finished look. She took the mirror gently from you looking at the finished look happy “oh I love it” she said happily. “Can I do your look?” “Oh of course” you said excited handing her all your makeup. “What color?” “You have full control, go for anything I’ll be fine with anything”, she did a full pretty look on your face that was full of pretty colors.
She handed you the mirror so you can see your new look, you smiled at it “oooo girl you’ve been practicing I love it, it’s so cute” you smile. She smiled as she responded “I watched a few tutorials and kept the notes in my mind that you gave me along with the tips and it really did help a lot.” You smiled “happy to help, did you want to do anything today?” “How about we can clean up? I don’t really feel like going out” “good choice” you joked. You added on “I really don’t feel like it either.”
You both started by cleaning the downstairs rooms then y’all went through the basement cleaning it out which took about an hour or two. Then you guys went to kitchen to get a break having a snack then a drink then went back to work. You guys went upstairs each taking 3 rooms; she took the bathroom, the laundry room, and your office while you took the two closets and your bedroom. Later that night you both finally finished cleaning the whole house finishing with the attic; in all it took you 6 hours to get everything spotless and clean.
“Damn girl, we both really got this place spotless” you joked as you both laughed. For the rest of the night you both did absolutely nothing being as lazy and you could. The next morning you looked over at her “you come out to anyone else yet?” “No just you, I wanted to come out to my family but I got too scared to” “I can be here for it if you want me to” “please” she said as you agreed with a nod. She sat down with you calling each member of her family scared of what they’ll say.
She came out to each and every one of them and they accepted her and gave her a speech on how they felt appreciated that she decided to tell them on her own and feeling happy that she’s finally happy with who she is and will become. She hung up the last call crying tears of joy that she was accepted, everyone deserves to be accepted. You hug her “I’m proud of you” “thank you Y/n” she hugged back. You smile at her “now cmon let’s go get you some genuine clothes, I want you to feel comfortable in clothes.”
You guys spent hours at the mall getting clothes and shoes that matched her dream style and you can tell she was very thankful for you. When you guys got back to your house you helped her get all the clothes on and she was beyond happy with everything. She felt pretty; and you had to agree her smile looked very gorgeous on her. You loved how happy she was falling in love with her self all over again and you felt honored seeing her smile while she found herself again. And she owes all this to you; who helped her along the way.

⇢ ⁺ SMILE-LESS SOIREE˖ Yuu starts to adjust to the RSA and its inhabitants.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
One day a little butterfly asked—well, fluttered its fragile wings rather than asked—Yuu what was the reason to get up so early in the morning. Back in Fairy Queendom, Yuu used to start her day with a benevolent moon radiating its light at her face at the time of the day Fairy Godmother enchantingly claimed as ‘morning’.
The ‘time’ itself was an unfamiliar matter for Yuu before she met Cinderella. The Princess patiently taught her how a gentle morning changed into a lambent afternoon, how a flamboyant day left a room for a mysterious evening, and finally, how everything fell into Morpheus’s caring arms during the night.
Cinderella undoubtedly was quite attentive to the atmosphere changing during the night and how drastic the changes were. Yuu would find herself doing chores at the very back of the kitchen; Cinderella’s hands smelled like soap and were still quite dry and covered with little calluses.
“I still do wonder how there’s no change of day in the Fairy Queendom you’ve mentioned,” Cinderella chuckled, sweeping the floor.
“According to what you’ve told me, it's an everlasting night where I live,” Yuu answered, wiping hands on a damp cloth. “Fairy Godmother says it’s quite gloomy… Maybe it is me who is wrong since I find night rather enchanting.”
“Vespertine darkness doesn’t suit her well,” Cinderella answered vaguely. “She herself resembles the brightest light, the ray of hope. And hope is always vivid.”
Yuu wondered if Cinderella thought that somber night would fit her well but decided to remain fairly ignorant, dreaming of being called light-radiating herself one day.
Tumblr media
Yuu thought that living under a perpetual night’s vastness led to her not needing sleep. And yet she desperately had been fighting her drowsiness, eager to stay awake for a little longer. It was suspiciously humanic of her and right now when she needed sleep hopelessly, it seemed that it wasn’t the best timing.
Yuu stared at the smiling expression on a cheeky face of an intruder and tried to blink it away, first assuming it was the hallucination formed due to received stress. The silhouette did disappear but Yuu felt something wasn’t right.
“Show yourself,” she demanded.
“Hmmm~” A stranger’s amused voice echoed in the room, its owner nowhere to be found.
Yuu turned around, revealing her magic wand and furrowing her brows. The stranger’s purple hair locks flicked in the moonlight, before her very eyes as she jumped, ready to cast a protection spell.
But the person (his humanity was under question yet) positioned himself on the thin windowsill and remained silent. It seemed like a play of glances between them, his cocky and playful, and hers cautious and observant. Yuu didn’t know how many minutes passed while she was trying to read at least one clear emotion on his face, yet the stranger wasn’t quite eager to analyze her appearance at all. His gaze penetrated through her, giving Yuu the impression he somehow managed to grasp all the gist he needed already, now only enjoying the little show the two of them held.
Purple striped tail—Yuu refrained from making a remark on how fluffy it looked—wiggled playfully, but her cautiousness remained solid and firm. He didn’t radiate danger, nor did Yuu manage to catch a glimpse of ill intentions, but his mysterious play was slightly concerning.
The stranger wasn’t saying anything to the extent it was getting rather strange, so Yuu thought if she can’t make him talk, she would do it herself. Small steps formed a rigid base to start from.
“... My name is Yuu,” she almost whispered, but the stranger’s lip corners turned upward slightly. “Who would you be?”
“Who knows, Pointy ears-chan~”
Pointy ears— Anyway, this act wasn’t of importance. Yuu straightened her nightgown and let her magic wand disappear with bright golden sparkles. In case something happens, she can defend herself even without the weapon.
“... Hm~” A boy hummed suddenly. “How peculiar.”
“Yes?..” Yuu reasked in confusion. “... Huh. I will report to the headmaster about you if you won’t reveal how I can help you.”
“How curious,” a person smiled. “Not want but help? I see you’re quite an interesting human… Or should I refer to you as… Well, nevermind!”
Yuu blinked, wondering why his gaze couldn’t manage to put her on guard. His eyes were the embodiment of a mystery, containing something more of a value underneath.
“I’m Artemiy Artemiyevich Pinker,” the stranger finally answered. “A third-year student here.”
Yuu sighed, massaging her temples with fingers and trying to follow his sudden introduction.
Would be understandable if you knew Anastasia, Yuu thought, remembering her dear friend's name sounded quite similar, was it Anastasia Nikolaevna?
It was highly unwise of her to spill her friend’s name so easily without thinking twice, but she was already tired enough to care dearly. Taking a deep breath, she continued.
“Nice to meet you, Artemiy-san,” she bowed slightly. “Though I’m afraid I don’t follow how I can be of help at this late hour…” She couldn’t process everything that was happening in the past ten minutes, including an unexpected encounter with a teacher and another boy she thought was a student.
“It’s understandable that you’re confused,” Artemiy grinned. “We all are. That is what makes us curiouser.”
“... Isn’t there already a curfew?” Yuu decided to try changing the subject, glancing at Artemiy and catching his penetrating gaze, which contained realization of what was happening so painfully obvious to him when Yuu herself couldn’t grasp even a glimpse of comprehension.
“Fun always happens at night.”
At night… Does it really? Yuu lowered her gaze right to the ground, imagining how she could have been watering the flowers in her garden. Magically grown flowers couldn’t compare to the real ones, waking up under the bright sun and full of vivid color palette shades. Was night really that fun?
“Actually,” he teleported on the corner of her bed, no sound coming from his movements. At this point Yuu decided to give up trying to analyze why would he behave that way. “I came to say that if you seek some fun, just let the road to me loom before you.”
He spoke riddles so tangled Yuu started experiencing a heavy headache.
“Yuu-san,” his cheeky voice sounded playful and full of energy. Yuu could feel an abrupt ardor running through her veins while a cheerful notes of his voice echoed in her mind, but she brushed off the thought quickly, mentally grounding herself back to earth. Or whatever this planet was. “You seem interesting. Can you stand on your head?”
“... Huh? I’m not aware if I can… I have never tried?”
He was so alien in this empty room drowned in a cold moonlight. Or was he the only normal while she was getting crazier with every passing second of their conversation?
“You should try one day,” Artemiy proved his unvoiced confirmation that he most definitely could stand on his head, turning midair and performing a pirouette-like move, causing Yuu to gasp in awe. “Who knows what things you might see from this perspective.”
Yuu approached him carefully, strands of his lilac hair brushing against her stretched out fingers. Artemiy seemed majestic, almost fairy-tale like character, despite he was a very human-like to her at this very second, his eyes of dandelion petals stared right into hers with flickers of curiosity.
“... What do you see then?”
Artemiy hummed, touching her ear once again before returning to the solid ground.
“One day you’ll tell me,” he answered vaguely, leaving Yuu blinking in incomprehension. “Well, see you tomorrow’s today, Wanderer~”
The boy dissolved within dust particles glowing light gray in the moonlight, leaving Yuu all alone.
Huh?
Yuu sighed. What was tomorrow’s today anyway? Also, Wanderer? Yuu turned around to hopelessly try to find the boy to ask him what he meant by that.
No one saw her actually landing in this realm, right? She might have been confused all along and maybe a person like Artemiy would notice her right away, or at least feel her presence, but was that really the deal? He didn’t look like a normal Prince to her, and even if the Beast didn’t look humanic at first, Artemiy resembled someone else to Yuu. In any case, it didn’t matter at the moment. Even if he wasn’t human, then he might be a.. Cat? Could a cat really tell Yuu came from another dimension?
Then the question was how much did he know. Yuu swimmed at the back of her mind, deepening in her own thoughts and trying to figure out if Artemiy named her that way just because she was the only girl attending an all-boys school or did the case lie deeper further than she could guess?
“Ah, right!” Artemiy reappeared before her face, his only head remaining. “Call me Che’nya. Bye-bye!”
“Arte— Che’nya-san, wait!! And he’s gone…”
Yuu fell on the bed, covering her eyes and sighing loudly. She had no right to complain right now. The reason why she ended up appearing in this foreign world was that someone was in danger. Yuu questioned if there was a princess to be saved or maybe destiny itself played a little trick, reversing the story current and demanding Yuu to save a prince instead. And even if she was wrong, there was no denying she must have accomplished the foredoom predestined for her.
Someone needed to be saved.
And with that thought Yuu allowed herself to finally rest, her eyelids feeling leaded. It was a rough day, but what will the following one offer to her tomorrow?
Tumblr media
Once upon a time in midwinter, when the snowflakes were falling like feathers from heaven, a queen sat sewing at her window, which had a frame of black ebony wood. As she sewed she looked up at the snow and pricked her finger with her needle. Three drops of blood fell into the snow. The red on the white looked so beautiful that she thought to herself, "If only I had a child as white as snow, as red as blood, and as black as the wood in this frame."
Yuu stood right in the pile of the whitest snow glimmering under the gentle sunrise, and dared to touch blood drops, wondering if she was seeing things. The blizzard felt suffocatingly real, causing Yuu to shiver. The story seemed vaguely familiar, but before she could observe the place she happened to appear, a gray fog covered the surroundings, transporting Yuu to another place.
Soon afterward she had a little daughter who was as white as snow, as red as blood, and as black as ebony wood, and therefore they called her Little Snow-White. And as soon as the child was born, the queen died.
Yuu frowned, hands wrought in a praying gesture, the grief splashed into her heart, pricking it with thorny glacial snowflakes.
A year later the king took himself another wife. She was a beautiful woman, but she was proud and arrogant, and she could not stand it if anyone might surpass her in beauty. She had a magic mirror. Every morning she stood before it, looked at herself, and said:
Mirror, mirror, on the wall,
Who in this land is fairest of all?
To this the mirror answered:
You, my queen, are fairest of all.
Yuu tried to look at her reflection, trembling before the Queen’s arrogant gaze aimed at herself, but couldn’t see what was hiding underneath the glassy reflection.
When did all the sorrow penetrate her soul?
Tumblr media
“Ugh…”
You slowly opened her eyes, getting adjusted to the light coming through the window and tenderly sliding down her face. Her head was still covered with a mist of yesterday’s events, making her slightly dizzy. Sleepiness she thought she would never experience crashed down on her. Everything seemed surreal, resembling a vague delirious dream.
She has never seen a light so bright and gentle in her whole rather long life. She turned to the window frame, meeting the sun rays happily welcoming her, and had to close her eyes for a brief moment before the brightness could burn her vision.
Yuu slowly got up, bare feet touching a cold marble floor. She might have needed shoes to use in the so-called house in the future but it was okay for now. Yuu made her way to the window, opening it and exhaling fresh air, enjoying the sounds of nature playing in every leaf, every flower petal, in a puff of wind. Her gaze fixated on the sun slowly rising from far away, and she stretched out her hand, as if trying to reach such a majestic miracle of gold, and tender rays praised her with its shining once more, skimming over her pointed face features, as if trying to tickle her.
Yuu chuckled to herself bitterly, turning away from the window and sighing. Such wonderful mornings might become addicting.
She wondered what time it was. Probably the morning was still just rising, given how low the sun was positioned, and tried to guess with her own abilities. It was quite hard for her to concentrate on the day changings since she’d been living in an eternal night all these years.
“Ha~ah,” she sighed. “There’s no use.”
No matter how long she was listening to nature singing, no reply was received. Yuu assumed it was around six in the morning, but she needed confirmation before she could visit the headmaster and ask him about the details she needed to know.
She then remembered how Ambrose said that she’s currently staying within a clock tower. It would be only logical to check the clock itself now, so Yuu headed to the hallway.
The hall that she couldn’t really observe with Ambrose leading her to her room and with the night guests visiting her so unexpectedly looked different when sun rays were lighting it up. Apparently the clock tower was quite glassy with how many tall windows it had. She ran up the stairs with clear amusement on her face, and looked out of the window, enjoying different views. Despite the hall being fairly empty, it did impress Yuu with its powerful yet elegant columns and marble floors. A whole academy could be seen from this point, and Yuu decided to observe it today as carefully as she could.
The clock itself should have been on the highest floor, so she overcame another spiral staircase and saw a huge archway leading directly to the clock mechanism. There were enough stairs in the building, so she had to climb another one before she faced a gigantic room, the main highlight of which was an immense window. The gilded dial was framed with a gold rounded frame. The rays of the sun solemnly made their way through the transparent surface of the glass, illuminating the entire room, and revealing to the light the variety of attributes within. Extinguished lanterns in bizarre vessels suspended on golden chains. Tall bookcases with an incredible number of book volumes, as well as a lot of bizarre paraphernalia, apparently intended for the study of Astrology and basically anything space-related.
Yuu gasped, staggered, and stared at all this beauty looming before her. She forgot about checking the time and approached intriguing scrolls on the table made of wood. Yuu took a glance at familiar circles and symbols, frowning. She couldn’t identify all of them, as well as the meaning, but at least this realm had something similar to what she already knew.
“Solar Return chart,” she mumbled to herself, noticing Pluto being in 8th house in that one particular chart. “... I wonder whose one is that.”
Yuu wasn’t extremely good at interpreting charts but Pluto falling in that position was quite an observation, leading to significant change in one’s life. She chuckled and turned abruptly, regaining her thoughts and remembering she went here to check the time.
It was five in the morning. Yuu nodded to herself and returned to her room. It was the perfect time to decide what she could do. Everything seemed really quiet at the moment, so lessons must have not started yet. She didn’t know how much time she had before classes either, but decided to take a little tour around the clock tower and observe if there was anything needed to be done in terms of chores.
Yuu walked around the whole building, realizing that it was all well lit by daylight due to the prevailing number of windows. Yuu also saw a room that appeared to be a guest room. It looked a little simpler than her own. There was also a simple living room with a small fireplace and a coffee table, where there was a painted tray with one mug without any dust on it, but Yuu did not feel human energy there. Going deeper, she stumbled upon a small kitchen and pantry, which contained nothing of great value, except for the various types of cereals.
After sorting the kitchen utensils, Yuu also dusted the kitchen and tidied up the pantry. Summoning her magic wand, she pulled up the boxes and containers resting on the upper shelves, which were not so easy to reach with her small height, and then packed cereals and other non-perishable products in them.
Sighing heavily, Yuu lifted her head and looked at the light seeping through the windows, becoming more and more bright and gentle. She went outside of the tower, her eyes meeting with a free space which could be used for gardening purposes though she wasn’t sure if it was okay to use it, given she didn’t plan to stay here out for too long. The smell of morning dew floated in the air, shimmering from coniferous freshness to a salty sea aroma, embraced by the sand chilled after the night coolness. Not so far away, the flooding singing of seagulls and salty waves gently rolling on the shore could be heard.
This place wasn’t her home. Yuu shrugged the thought and a sudden sensation of getting excited over doing arrangements and chores and missing the feeling of doing routine she was fond of. Cleaning helped her to keep the mind in peace, letting all the worries sort out a little, but when everything was already done, she felt how a heavy anvil of unresolved problems dropped on her, pressing and crashing.
“Just what am I doing…”
Yuu summoned her magic wand, her fingers enveloping its base, and took a deep breath before taking a position and closing her eyes.
She tried casting a mirror to her home once more. This time she was going to try remembering how Mirror Hall looked in her memory. An enormously huge ballroom with mirrors hanging on the walls, different aura colors around Princesses’ portraits radiating from golden frames. Her Sprites cheerfully flying everywhere and dancing with butterfly maelstrom, Fairy Godmother teaching her how to hold the posture and—
“Argh!!” Yuu screamed, dropping the magic wand like it happened yesterday, and hissed out of pain, falling on the ground.
She opened her lidded eyes, white noise particles flooding her vision, and felt her veins setting ablaze. Pulse in her vessels were beating fast, every beat sending a wave of pain running underneath her skin and causing the veins to shudder, following the rhythm. Her mind was lost in the labyrinth of memories and strange hallucinations, dissolving in images of the mirror in her mansion getting blocked by thorny veins.
“So it’s not the spell being wrong,” she whispered, trying to get up. Her white nightgown became covered in stains of green grass and damp soil. “The mirror itself is blocked?..”
Yuu picked up her magic wand and tried to sort out the thoughts swarming in her head, but all in vain. Everything she could think of at the moment was her dearest Fairy Godmother.
“I want to see you again,” Yuu mumbled, hardly making her way to the entrance.
Maybe her magic still wasn’t advanced enough to make it through the block on the mirror? Yuu gasped, realizing that if it was the case, then she could practice more once she regains her energy after such a miserable attempt.
The problem was that she had no idea about block-removing spells. Her knowledge was embarrassingly limited due to Godmother teaching her only simple ones, allowing her to grow plants quickly and some basic attacking and defensive incantations. Yuu first found a book about potionology in Snow White’s realm, learning a few potions when she managed to take a glance at them.
Worlds she visited opened many doors of opportunities to Yuu that she was too humble to observe but did it nevertheless. It felt wrong to do something she was always prohibited to do — Fairy Godmother taught Yuu not to seek information she’s not provided with. Yuu remembered shivering in horror at the mere thought of doing something that Fairy Godmother advised her not to. Yuu couldn’t resist the urge to write a spell or two on the parchment, then throw it out, reaping in a myriad of pieces out of fear that her Mother would find out she was messing with magic spells.
Yuu knew it was insanely dangerous to practice unsupervised, so that her hysterical nights of delirious writings of spells enchantment turned into nights full of Yuu secretly writing down possible combinations she wouldn’t be able to test ever again, guilt filling her heart, consolidating with an unknown to her feel of rebellion.
Detailed, rather safe one, spells changed into small incoherent-looking notes, resembling silly scribbles, which actually contained more dangerous conjuration combinations she could have never tried casting.
Yuu gulped and took her magic wand again, the conscious restoring and clearing.
“Á lelya,” she whispered, waving a magic wand and causing a cheerful swirl of golden particles to reveal a slightly dilapidated book. “It’s been a while.”
Yuu touched yellowed with age, slightly damp pages with ink stains around the edges. She felt an indescribable relief because if she accidentally left her magic spell book at home, a catastrophe might have been caused. She looked through the pages, delicately flipping them one by one until she found her old invocation conjunctions.
She covered the book with a shield, leaving it levitating near her, and tried to transfer her consciousness to the Fairy Queendom realm, concentrating on her mind floating to the Mirror Hall, but all in vain — the image remained dark and hazy. The sun was shining brightly, its rays dancing on her skin, and Yuu gave up, sighing in defeat and deciding to try again later.
Yuu went to her room, changing into the ceremonial robes she happened to wear yesterday, and removed the coat to not stand out too much. Trousers felt alien and unfitting on her, but she was also excited to try something new. Yuu went to the bathroom near her room and checked her outfit in the mirror, nodding to herself, and went out of the clock tower.
The clock tower was located on a small ledge, being the farthest point on the campus from which one could see the entire academy. Yuu wondered where the rest of the dorms were, because the number and size of the buildings didn't match the number of students she saw yesterday at the ceremony.
She remembered the way to the headmaster’s office, so she immediately followed there, observing every candelabra she saw. The academy seemed even more welcoming and cozy in the morning, enveloped by warm sunny lights. The silence, covered by the morning dawn, did not seem as heavy as yesterday, and therefore it was not so uncomfortable to cut it with the sound of heels.
Yuu knocked twice, hearing a joyful “Come in!” and followed further in Ambrose's office.
The headmaster was drinking tea, Yuu smelled sea buckthorn notes and a variety of herbs mixed in there, and bowed to him in a greeting way.
“No need in bowing, child,” Ambrose smiled at her, gesturing to have a seat, and continued right after. “You’re quite diligent, aren’t you? I was planning to wake you up much later.”
“I can’t burden you more than I am already,” Yuu lifted her surprised gaze at him. “
“We need to do something with that extreme politeness you have here…” Ambrose said to himself and continued before Yuu could ask what was that about. “How did you sleep?”
Yuu recalled two strangers appearing in the clock tower at midnight, then Che’nya appearing in her room, and laughed sheepishly.
“Ha-ha… I did sleep well.”
“I see you’re adjusting to a new place,” Ambrose nodded. “Have you explored the clock tower yet?”
“I have!” Yuu smiled brightly, remembering the clock itself and all the astrology things in the room. “You’ve mentioned that someone comes for checking purposes. Do they study Astrology?.. They’ve left their notes.”
The headmaster smiled even wider, pouring tea into a cup and giving it to Yuu.
“Indeed. You will meet the person soon. Don’t worry and feel free to observe his notes, I believe he would be happy for you to join him in his studies.”
“Is it… really okay for me to do?” Yuu asked humbly, not sure if she could have looked through the notes made by another person who apparently worked really hard. “I will not offend him?”
“Of course not, child. If it bothers you a lot, just ask him if it’s alright when he comes. And now come here.”
Yuu followed Ambrose to the other wing of the office. He took out a small, neatly folded package and a box from the mahogany cabinet and handed it to Yuu. She looked at him questioningly, tilting her head to the side, but accepted the things.
“What is it?” She asked.
“Your school uniform,” Ambrose answered, chuckling at her funny startled reaction. “I thought I would find one uniform set of the smallest size, but it needed to be adjusted magically, given you’re quite… tiny, I would say. Forgive me for the rudeness.”
“H-huh?..” Yuu mumbled absent-mindedly and stared at him in bewilderment. “It’s okay! Thank you very much, how could I repay—”
“One more word about repairing, and I will use magic to silence you for a minute, child,” Ambrose said cheerfully but his eyes weren’t smiling at all.
“Yes sir,” she answered.
“Well then,” he continued, making his way to the desk, Yuu followed him like a lost kitten. “Let me provide you with the information you need to adjust comfortably.”
Yuu nodded and took a seat in front of him, sipping the tea Ambrose prepared for her, a new obtained uniform resting on her lap.
“First, here’s a manual for you to always check it in case you forgot something or lost somewhere within the campus. Studies start from 8:30 am, so be sure to wake up by that time. I see you had no problem today with that though.”
“Understood,” Yuu nodded, opening the manual she was given and gasping in surprise. “It’s so detailed!”
“Glad you find it useful,” Ambrose smiled. “You’re in class A, and your seat number is 27. You can find your class location here,” He pointed to the map in the manual.
“Right to the teacher’s room,” Yuu commented. “I see.”
“Yes. Your class teacher is Emery der Licht. He is an impressively talented magician, as well as an incredible Teacher. Don’t hesitate to ask him in case you have a problem or don’t understand something. Okay?”
“Okay,” Yuu nodded and felt an excitement rising up. It’s been a while since she talked to someone, not to mention study with someone. “Uhm, headmaster…”
“Yes?”
“How many of the school staff are aware of my situation?..”
“Only me and the one who comes to the clock tower from time to time,” the headmaster said. “And Excalibur, too. Though he’s not really a school staff member.”
“It is ‘he’?..” Yuu asked. “I think he would be sad to hear it… I thought he was a… a teacher?”
“Haha!” Ambrose laughed genuinely at her answer. “Excalibur would be actually delighted to hear it! In any case, please don’t spread any more information about your origins to others, especially students. We’ll study your case together, and if nothing helps, I’ll report to the government.”
“Understood…”
“By the way!” He exclaimed. “If you want to find more information, come to the library. I think you might find something useful there.”
“Library!!” Yuu lit up, jumping from her seat, and apologized right after for her behavior. “I will do so, thank you!”
After a discussion which lasted for over an hour, Yuu thanked Ambrose, bowed to him again (despite him giving her a certain look so she decided that maybe she did something wrong) and got back to the clock tower to change the clothes.
She opened the box, revealing a pair of shoes and clothes. Upfolding the uniform and looking at all the elements of it, Yuu fell deep into the thoughts of how exactly it should be worn. Imagining the look in her mind, she waved the magic wand. All clothes elements danced around, the elements of ceremonial robes floated midair while other pieces of clothing were pulling on her body by itselves.
“I hope I did it right…” Yuu said, making her way to the bathroom to check out what she did.
The uniform was noticeably large even after using the shrinking magic, but Yuu didn't push it any further, thinking she would mess up intertwining two magics together. A white blouse with loose, wide sleeves was tucked into dark blue trousers with golden stripes on the sides. Seeing her pants being not so comfortable and big at the waist, she sighed and waved her magic wand again, and a wide belt appeared around her waist, fixing the problem. Yuu also tried pulling on a white blazer with navy blue inserts on the sleeves, but it was too bulky. She grimaced at the realization that she was not up to the task (namely, putting on the uniform properly) and decided for one moment to simply throwing the jacket over her shoulders, fastening its two sides with a golden chain on her chest, tucking it under the golden bow on the collar of her blouse.
She nodded approvingly to herself as she took one last look at the dark leather boots with not-too-high thick heels laced with white satin ribbons and a pretty bow at the top. Her hands felt bare and alien to her without the gloves she used to wear in the Fairy Queendom, so she made final touches and added almost transparent white mitaines and smiled.
“I hope I don’t stand out too much…”
And with that she opened the manual to check her destination.
Tumblr media
Yuu… was scared.
She was sure she had never seen so many people gathered at one place. Even if she visited many Princesses' realms, she remembered people celebrating on the streets, she even recalled how Rapunzel insisted on having some fun together during the festival, but what was happening right now—
She couldn’t comprehend it. Somehow yesterday at the ceremony when people were coming to Excalibur one by one and the others were just standing beside her, right now all of them were moving. She stared bewilderedly at students who were fooling around, talking, laughing, gossiping, talking again… She could have endured that, but they were talking about her. Her instincts sharpened, making hearing range absolutely uncontrollable. Every smallest piece of information reached her, pounding loudly in her ears, and she tried to calm down as fast as she could.
“Oh, is that the girl that we saw yesterday? I thought it was a mistake?..”
“I know right? Who could have thought they would enroll a girl here.”
“Isn’t it like, against the rules tho?”
“Maybe they’ve decided to make the school open to all genders?”
“I guess so. She’s quite a cutie!”
Ugh… Yuu was getting dizzy. Yesterday she was too shocked to pay attention to the number of people surrounding her, and she also seemed fine talking to the headmaster and even Che’nya. She suddenly slipped out of her previous thoughts, remembering an unexpected encounter that happened at midnight.
Right, Che’nya! Yuu nodded in a greeting way absent-mindedly to two or three students who were staring at her while she walked, and thought about finding Che’nya. He said he is a third-year student here, so it shouldn’t be a problem… But then again, it actually might be quite a challenge to find a person who was appearing midair randomly just if he wished so.
“Ayo come look at this,” someone suddenly said quite loudly.
Yuu finally managed to concentrate on one particular group of students walking behind her, and listened.
“It’s Neige’s new project advertisement,” a student said.
“He’s starring in a new movie?! It’s been only two months since he won an award in a previous one!”
“He’s nailing it,” the boy seemed to be extremely proud.
“Agreed,” the other one said. “How in the world does he manage to study so well and also participate in all those projects? It’s insane!”
“And you’re just a first-year,” the boy said edifyingly. “Neige is a second-year by now. Must be tough.”
“I heard he’s also a dorm leader?”
“Yeah…”
Yuu hummed to herself, whispering the boy’s name to herself. Neige, she mumbled, rolling his name on her tongue as if trying to figure out what it reminded her of. He must be fairly diligent, given how others were speaking about him. And before she wanted to return to her thoughts again, she realized that practically everyone was discussing Neige, all of the people praising him and adoring. As much as Yuu wanted to continue hearing people talk, she took a deep breath and entered the Academy.
The interior of the Academy fascinated with its immense scale and abundance of spiral staircases. It flowed like a ballerina in a dance, and the fullness of warm bright light in the building filled ones with good and joyful feelings. Yuu stared at the central wing of the Academy, as if fascinated, not even imagining how much more unknown things were awaiting her.
Yuu, shifting her gaze from the manual to the corridors of the school, observed the interior. The huge difference between the calm and cozy atmosphere in the morning and the current liveliness and cheerful spirit seemed quite attractive to Yuu. The students got to know each other, discussed the beginning of the school year and looked quite enthusiastic. Yuu allowed herself to relax a little, despite the tenacious glances that followed her silhouette here and there, and reached the auditorium (located on the 8th floor) that Ambrose was talking about.
She took a deep breath and opened the door. The classroom was an auditorium with several rows rising up and a stairs in the very center. Opposite the stairs, near the entrance, there was a huge blackboard and a tribune for the teacher. Fancy lamps hung from above, but they weren’t litten up, thanks to the sun rays seeping in through the windows.
Yuu made her way to the seat number 27, trying to ignore all the stares locked on her. She was quite early, sitting on the middle row on the edge, and wondered who was the one who’s got to sit beside her. Yuu wanted to make friends.
She lowered her gaze, remembering Princesses calling her their dearest friend, and chuckled bitterly. Was she really?.. Yuu decided that if making friends was equal to helping them, then she should start doing exactly that, but she also couldn’t manage to find someone who needed help at the moment.
She was observing the classroom more closely, hearing people discussing first her (right when they walked to the class), then Neige again. Yuu also found copybooks and notebooks as well as a fountain pen lying on the hanging shelf under the table and opened the notebook ready to write.
The bell rang, and Yuu jolted in her seat thinking something happened, but apparently she was the only one panicking over nothing. As she heard from the boy behind her, it was indicating the start of the lesson. And indeed, a teacher came.
“Good morning to you all!”
Yuu stared at the teacher who entered in surprise. Familiar, unbelievably long blond hair almost reached the floor, and Yuu was sure it would have curled across the floor if it hadn't been styled in a stunningly beautiful braid decorated with small flowers. In the light of day, she was able to see his eyes in more detail. Green chrysolites of his big eyes gleamed charmingly in the sunlight. Pink shades predominated in the color palette of his clothes, giving the impression that he was very young. Yuu wondered how old he actually was but realized it was quite rude to think about it, even though whispers here and there were heard. It was the person who she saw this midnight in the clock tower! The one who jumped after the boy.
“Is this boy really our teacher??”
“He looks so young!!”
“Just how long is his hair?!”
“Young gentlemen, I can hear you,” he grinned, but his eyes weren’t smiling joyfully. “In any case, nice to meet you. My name is Emery der Licht, I’ll be your classroom teacher. I teach everything magic-related and alchemy, which makes us the closest friends ever from now on~ Don’t think about skipping my lessons, alright? It wouldn’t do anything good for you.”
Yuu nodded more to herself, and wrote down his name in the notebook.
“I see Class 1A is quite interesting this year, hm?” Emery looked at Yuu, making her tilt her head. “Yuu-san, right?”
“Yes!” She answered excitedly. He was teaching magic!! It was unbelievable. “That is me.”
“Hmm,” Emery chuckled amusingly at her pronouns choice. “How peculiar. I look forward to working with you, Yuu-san.”
Emery explained the freshman curriculum. Yuu found his words very entertaining and revealed her heightened interest in what was happening. She first entered an educational institution, and everything about the educational process seemed extremely new to her, mysterious, but infinitely broadening horizons of the mind.
The first lesson turned out to be an introduction to the structure of alchemy, a kind of acquaintance with this entertaining science. Yuu was so engrossed in taking notes that it wasn't until the end of class that she noticed her desk mate hadn't shown up.
She heard students claiming they were hungry, and hummed to herself. She didn’t need much food intake, but wanted to see the cafeteria and the food people eat there.
She slowly walked along the corridors of the Academy, studying the portraits of great figures in the field of magic, memorizing their names and surnames. Yu was interested in the curve of every fancy lamp, every shelving and every column capital.
Descending another spiral staircase, she finally found the cafeteria. A large number of oblong rectangular tables were located on the first floor, but Yuu noticed several round tables designed for a smaller number of people on the second one. On one side, from a wall-to-ceiling window a garden could be seen. And on the other side, beside the counter and the showcase, food was  handed out by…
“Are those gargoyles?!”
“What the?!”
Yuu heard students’ surprised tone and could actually relate to their shock. Come to think of it, she… saw someone similar once?..
“We have names,” One of the gargoyles said loudly, giving a cupcake to one of the students. “Mine’s Vittorio.”
“Uhm, thank you.. Sir?..” Another student took his lunch from the gargoyle with the tallest horns.
“Hugh,” another gargoyle answered.
Yuu watched in amazement. Real gargoyles were handing out food to the students!! As soon as she looked at the vegetable salad, another gargoyle, apparently the smallest of them, immediately flew up to her and served a portion of the salad that Yuu had looked at ten seconds earlier.
“H-huh?” She said. “Thank you, sir!!”
“I’m Lavont.”
“I’ll remember. Thank you so much!”
And just when she straightened from bowing to him, Lavont already went to another student with a tray full of different dishes. Yuu made her way to the second floor where a lesser number of students were, and took a seat.
Despite the cafeteria filled from top to bottom with the noisy voices of students and the clatter of plates, Yuu felt isolated. However, she had to dine alone very often, which was not something unexpected. Yuu had time to grab the cutlery and was about to try the salad when a ticklish "Hello nya~" was heard behind her ear.
“Huh?!” She exclaimed, turning around but seeing no one.
“What are you doing here all alone?”
A familiar face appeared before her, and Yuu recognized Che’nya from purple hair strands, and exhaled in relief.
“Che’nya-san,” she greeted him with a little bow. “You sure manage to surprise me. For the second time today.”
“Life’s full of surprises, right?”
“I guess it is…”
Even despite Che’nya’s randomness, Yuu realized she actually felt better after his appearance. He was easy to talk to even considering his strange way of doing that, and also his voice was quite nice to hear. He waited for her to try the salad and smiled at her when she swallowed the first bite, making sure she was eating. Yuu wondered why he would do that in the first place, but decided not to comment at the moment.
“Che’nya-san, I wanted to ask you why you came to me today.”
“Hm~” Che’nya hummed, leaning a bit closely but not making her uncomfortable. “What do you think?”
“I think it’s quite obvious,” she told him, fixing her gaze on his eyes, and continued consuming food slowly. “I just want confirmation. My guess is that… well, isn’t it quite strange? I seem different not only in terms of gender, but also in the dormitory no one else lives. It’s just suspicious.”
Che’nya stared at her with an unreadable look for half of a minute before sighing in defeat, causing Yuu to startle a little. Did she say something wrong? But her words were only logical.
“Here in my dorm we appreciate curiosity,” he said suddenly, thanking passing by Vittorio who gave Che’nya his meal consisting of fish and a salad too. “Thanks, Tori~”
Vittorio chuckled, pouring a cup of tea for Yuu and going to another table before she could have thanked him.
“Anyway~” Che’nya regained her attention on him. “Your guess is far from renyality.”
“Oh,” Yuu gasped. “Then what is it?..”
“No fun in telling you that simply~” Che’nya consumed fish almost in one bite, making Yuu widen her eyes in surprise. “Well well, I have no choice other than to spend more time with you to help you find out.”
“Yes?.. I understand you less with each second.”
He didn't respond to her statement, only his fluffy tail wagged playfully. Yuu pondered over his words when a "curiosity" suddenly popped up in her mind.
“Che’nya-san,” she called him. “May I ask you a question?”
“Not ‘may’,” he said. “You should! Ask right away, especially if it’s about directions. I’m good at giving ‘em~”
“No, it’s not that… You’ve mentioned that you appreciate curiosity in your dorm. Do other dormitories also have features they associate their dorms with?”
Che’nya smiled brightly at her.
“Nice one this time! Nyep, they do. Want to hear?”
Yuu nodded eagerly. Che’nya looked around, as if scanning their surroundings, and returned his gaze to Yuu, making her follow his.
“The dorms here are divided into seven kinds. You can easily distinguish them by colors~ For example, that one person with a turquoise brooch on his jacket. See, nya?”
Yuu followed his glare, easily spotting a student Che’nya pointed out. Indeed, a brooch with  majestic shades of green and blue sparkled beautifully in the light.
“That’s Merheronelle. If you see people wandering around and being all lively and vivid, they must be from there.”
“What a beautiful sounding name,” Yuu nodded but got startled when she saw another student with a warm, light beige-colored brooch. “Oh, and that one person?”
“A~ah, he’s from Dýnamieisos!” Che’nya replied with tail’s wiggling. “Quite valiant individuals, I would say!”
“Valiant? How come?”
“Don’t make me regret calling you Wanderer, mm?” He returned his gaze to her, meeting with her confused one. “You seem curious enough to fit in our dorm though.”
“Ah, forgive me,” Yuu covered her mouth with a palm in surprise, ashamed of herself. “I forgot to ask what your dorm is called in the first place… I’m sorry for being rude and unattentive.”
Che’nya sighed, releasing a sound similar to cat meowing but rather… annoyed cat meowing?
“Our dorm name’s Pandora Charm,” he replied. “Quite charming, right?”
“Oh, it really is!” Yuu agreed, letting her lips curve in a small smile but also not noticing a brooch on his uniform. “What’s your dorm color?”
“Bright blue, nya. Woah, watch that guy!” Che’nya managed to switch her attention to a boy with a bright orange-colored brooch. “You don’t see Huriirada students that often. Must be a first-year.”
“Hm? Why is that?”
“They’re rather determined but sometimes they look quite… lonely,” Che’nya’s smile dropped for a mere moment before she could have asked what he actually meant by that he switched her attention again, making her gaze fixate on another student somewhere on the first floor. The boy was surrounded by an insanely large number of people with red brooches.
“He’s from Edelwiese,” Che’nya said, his tail wagging cheerfully. Were they acquainted? Or maybe friends? “I think the most popular ones! The school staff wanted to ask Excalibur to rethink his choice because the number of Edelwiese students was quite large this year.”
“Huh? That many?”
“They’re all very kind,” Che’nya hummed. “But I don’t think that’s the only reason…”
Yuu narrowed her eyes, but he was already pointing at another student with a pastel pink brooch.
“It looks so lovely,” Yuu said. “The color. Reminds me of gentle peonies...” Yuu grew peonies of a similar light pink color in her garden, knowing how much the Fairy Godmother loved them.
“The name of the dorm is rather floral too. It’s Florevel, the students there also remind me of flowers sometimes.”
Yuu decided not to ask how a person could resemble a flower, and nodded at the boy who was running up the stairs when another two with similar bright yellow brooches were chasing him, causing quite a commotion.
“Aaah, them~” Che’nya laughed. “Kifurijua dorm members are rather dauntless. But those are… those seem reckless. In a good way, nya.”
Yuu wondered why this group of students were in such a hurry, but she continued to discuss school life with Che’nya and asked about various things. After a while, she glanced at the watch, horrified at how quickly time had flown by and how empty the cafeteria had become. Time always went too fast for her, as if it didn't exist at all. After bowing and making Che’nya promise to greet her normally next time, she hurried back to the classroom.
“I see you’re already socializing, Yuu-san,” Emery greeted her at the entrance, and allowed to make her way to the desk. “Ah, youth~”
Yuu blinked twice but decided not to push it. Getting ready for the class starting, she pulled her notebook and jolted again at the sound of the bell ringing, furrowing her brows. Loud noises were a bit painful for her ears, but she decided it was just a matter of time until she got used to it.
“Alright,” Emery said, grabbing a piece of chalk and writing down the next topic on the blackboard. “Our next subject is… wait a moment.”
Yuu noticed the teacher glancing at the door and wondered how far he could hear. She also heard a rapid sound of someone approaching this classroom by running. The next second the door was shut open instantly, and a boy she saw in the cafeteria entered the classroom.
“I’M REALLY SORRY!” He said, trying to catch his breath and straightened his back, greeting the teacher. “Good morning, sir!!”
“It’s professor der Licht for you.”
Yuu widened her eyes. So young and already a professor?! This Academy was amazing…
“So,” Emery crossed his arms. “Care to explain? You skipped two lessons already, and it’s literally your first day here.”
“Aagh, yeah yeah, hehe,” the student didn’t appear to be guilty at all. “I just kinda… overslept?”
The sudden silence put Yuu on alert. This student fluttered his eyelashes innocently as he watched Emery slowly walk over to the table and take something out from under it. No one had time to blink an eye, as a dull sound of contact between something metallic and something solid was heard.
“Ouch! Sorry!”
“EEEEGH?!”
Emery held a frying pan in his hands, looking at the student with a look that expressed something along the lines of "Uh-huh, hopeless." Yuu couldn't figure out which was worse, hitting a student with a frying pan, or the fact that the student looked completely unharmed and more like slightly puzzled.
“Go take a seat,” Emery sighed. “And don’t make me hit you tomorrow’s morning too.”
Yuu followed the student making his way to his seat and parted her lips slightly when he sat right beside her. So he was the one missing this morning! What a deskmate she encountered.
Yuu listened attentively to Emery, noticing that she already knew some of the facts, and allowed herself to take her eyes off the board to switch the gaze to her new desk mate. The boy in a good shape and with strong looking arms was tilted slightly forward, as if listening to the teacher, but his thoughts seemed to be somewhere else. His carefree look of sky-blue eyes fascinated with its crystal purity and innocent brightness, though a hardly noticeable shade of mischief was hiding underneath. His wheat-colored hair curled slightly in bangs that fell a little over long eyelashes, a pair of front strands of the hair matched the color of his eyes.
And the part that seemed extremely adorable and eye-catching to Yuu appeared to be a pair of animal ears (lion ones, maybe?), one of them was twitching at the sound of the professor slightly raising his voice so he could be heard on the further rows. Yuu swallowed, trying to erase an unexpectable eagerness to touch a fluffy-looking fur of a color matching his hair, and felt her heart beating a bit faster at his cuteness.
She also observed how messily his uniform was arranged, and how the bright yellow brooch almost fell off the short-sleeved shirt, not to mention the jacket tied around his torso. Something moved under his jacket in a jolly wave, and she saw a tip of a tail. It was much thinner and longer than Che'nya's.
He turned to her suddenly, causing her to drop the pencil she was holding, and smiled so brightly she thought the sunrise was just a mere joke before his cheerful expression.
“Hello!” He tried to whisper but it came out a bit loud. “I’m Luan, you?”
“Yuu,” she answered, not getting why he would continue staring at her without saying anything.
“No, you.”
“I’m Yuu,” she repeated and realized the pun. “My name is Yuu.”
“Eh,” he looked at her in surprise. “Mīnne? Idk what’s that. Anyway, nice to meet you!”
Yuu stared at him dumbfoundedly before saying something like ‘Nice to meet you too’ in return. She was almost getting used to people talking about her being a girl and not really trusting her and only Che’nya casually starting a conversation. But this boy looked so nice and apparently genuinely didn’t care, so she decided to give it a go.
“So we’re desk mates, right? So cool!”
“Y-yeah, it is!” Yuu tried to follow. “Oh, right,” he turned to her again. “Are you a girl? You look quite feminine.”
Yuu blinked at him. Did he not hear?
“I am.”
“Oh, cool,” he just shrugged it off, seemingly he really did not care at all. It was rather refreshing. “Btw do you know the teacher’s name?”
“It’s Emery der Licht, Luan,” she answered in a whisper.
“Super, thanks, Yuu!” He laughed. “It’s lame to call him by his surname anyway.”
“You know I can hear you, right?”
“Yep~”
Yuu smiled at how genuinely sunny and joyful his laugh was and decided to return to taking notes. Somehow the only presence of the boy around managed to put her heart to peace, leading to the realization that apparently not everything invoked her sudden anxiety over a big number of people talking about her in an overwhelming way.

“If you want to find more information, come to the library. I think you might find something useful there.”
Yuu remembered Ambrose’s words and right after the lessons she was heading out straight there. Some students hurried back to their dorms, others began to bond and gathered in the garden to get to know each other better, some preferred to enjoy the atmosphere all alone. Yuu, on the other hand, continued to walk slowly through the ornate corridors until she reached the giant doors, near which hung a gilded sign "Library".
Opening the doors, Yuu seemed to find herself in a parallel reality. Obviously, she really was in another universe, but still, what appeared before her was beyond praise.
In contrast to the predominantly marble decoration of the academy, the library was made of wood. Myriads of wooden bookcases sprang up in front of her, never knowing the end of the edge. Everywhere there were shelves with various kinds of relics, memoirs and other bizarre scrolls. The library featured dimmer lighting, maintaining a note of mystery. Yuu walked past a giant bookcase at least floors long, curiously touching a wooden step ladder that allowed one to climb to the topmost shelf. The floor was covered with dark blue carpets sheathed in gold to match the school's uniform.
Yuu went deeper as the light seeping through a window somewhere far ahead illuminated the whirlwind of dust particles dancing in the passageway. Yuu turned her head to the left, meeting the cylindrical bookshelves filled to the brim with books and the stairs leading to the mezzanine. On the right side there was a gigantic reading room filled with tables. There were cozy-looking table lamps on them, dozens of books were stacked in careless piles. From the reading room one could proceed to the next seemingly endless rows of bookshelves. Another spiral staircase also led to the second floor.
There were few students, and their small number created a special, very personal and indestructible atmosphere of mystery and hidden knowledge. Yuu walked up the three steps and ended up near what appeared to be the librarian's desk. It was a cylindrical stand, behind which a giant clock towered on a bookshelf-shaped stand. Yuu tilted her head up, meeting her gaze at the glass ceiling, over which the setting sun danced playfully, drowning in the crimson hues of the sunset.
Yuu walked over to the librarian's desk, peering under it curiously and noticing a mop of dark brown hair that looked like melted bittersweet chocolate. The person raised up, and Yuu gasped at his extraterrestrial beauty. Silky curls framed his face with neat, dreamy features. His solid elegant posture reminded her of royalty. He blinked, his lush eyelashes covered sandy eyes.
He held his chin high, not shying away from looking majestic, but not supercilious. The librarian gave her a curious eye, fixing a steadfast gaze on Yuu's eyes. At that moment, her own glare flickered over his features, and she couldn't help but notice the charm of the mole under his right eye.
“Good evening,” his voice appeared to be quite deep. “My name is Aell, I’m a librarian. How can I be of help?”
“Good evening, sir Aell, I am Yuu.” She bowed to him but he didn’t seem surprised or annoyed at her action, unlike others who she happened to meet. “Could you please tell me where’s the section with…”
Revealing her intentions to a librarian was a risky move, so Yuu smiled slightly and continued after a pause.
“Books about the history of monarchy kingdoms?”
The librarian nodded, seeming unsurprised at all, and turned to the right. Yuu still was too preoccupied with observing his features to follow his eyes, but noticed another mole on the tip of his sharp nose, staring at him in reverence.
“Second floor, section eight. There will be six tables. Come near the third. Somewhere in there.”
“Thank you very much.”
“Call me if needed,” Aell added, lowering his gaze to the book lying on the table behind his counter, lowering his gaze to the book lying on the table behind his counter, which distracted Yuu for a split second again. Some inexplicable aura of elegance and quivering charm of the librarian forced her to look at him again, and she noted how charmingly his eyes were distinguished by the presence of only one double eyelid on one of them and the absence of it on another.
Yuu followed his directions and indeed found the right section. She ran her fingers along the spines of the books, thoughtfully examining their bindings and reading the titles, when suddenly she heard a speech, one of the voices seemed suspiciously familiar to Yuu.
“Ya, don’t tell me!”
Yuu peeked out from behind the bookshelf, peering at the two figures sitting at the reading table. She saw the back of a familiar person with copper-colored hair, his voice resonating within her mind.
Opposite him sat (more like rested) a boy she did not know. He was laying on the table with his head resting on his hands, which were folded on the table in the shape of a frame. The setting rays of the sun made its way through the window frame, leaning against the silhouette and caressing his pale skin. Above his refined figure and golden curls of silky hair, slightly tangled and glossy with ornate ringlets delicately appeared because of his sleeping posture, trembled a mirage of something extraterrestrial. His eyelashes quivered reverently in the sleep, and his eyebrows drew down to the bridge of his nose, emphasizing something restless appearing in his dream. Motes of dust, lazily bending around the contours of the furniture in the library, did not reach the top of his head, dissolving in the light of the rays of the setting sun.
“You’re asleep?! For real? What in the world…” The boy was sitting with one leg pulled up to his chest and clasping it with one arm, hastily swinging the other one back and forth. “Yo, that’s insane dude… Gotta record this.”
Right, it was the boy who appeared in the clock tower this night and disappeared in a hole which was created absolutely randomly, and dissolved just the same way! His voice was rather loud and vivid in the gentle warm library atmosphere, even if he tried to restrain it, making it a bit lower.
Yuu's eyes flickered over their silhouettes in interest before dropping to the floor. She was torn apart by curiosity, she wanted to clarify what was the reason for their sudden so-called meeting that night, but at the same time ... Despite the fervent and friendly mood of the boy, she could not approach him so easily. In addition, his apparently friend had a dream, and, as it seemed, it was not so pleasant. The violent nature of the nightmare clouded his wonderful features.
A sudden loud thud from behind distracted her from the thoughts which started swirling in her head, making her mind hazy. Yuu turned to her left, noticing a book which fell off the highest shelf.
“A book, huh,” she said, intending to pick up a book which fell from the highest shelf, and turned to the two students, the sleeping one apparently waking up.
Yuu felt a familiar sensation of air trembling slightly when already extremely familiar purple hair locks appeared before her eyes, and then Che’nya’s face was revealed.
“Che’nya-san,” Yuu let out a sigh. “I thought you promised you would greet me normally?”
“I haven’t greeted you yet~” He hummed, this time not revealing his whole body and letting his head float midair. “Anyway, it’s still a bit early. Don’t rush it.”
“Yes?” She blinked. “What do you mean?”
“Who knyaws~”
“Che’nya-san,” Yuu frowned. “I suggest you speak to me in a clearer way. Otherwise…”
“Othernyaise?” He reasked her playfully. Maybe it was the right moment to start regretting life choices? At this point Yuu felt a strange sensation, causing her to almost roll her eyes at his words, but quickly shrugged it off. What was this feeling called in the first place?..
“Remember I told you today,” Che’nya grinned with the eyes closed, the smile exposing his teeth. “Fun always happens at night.”
“I’m starting to believe I must have found a translator from your language instead,” Yuu sighed.
“As I’ve mentioned,” his purple strands flicked before her eyes. “I think I need to spend a bit more time with you. And that means…”
He disappeared again, but his voice could still be heard in the back of consciousness. “Next time I’ll greet you properly. I can’t break promises, after all~”
Yuu rubbed her temples with the fingers and thought that there was enough shock and strangeness for today. Turning around to talk to those two students, she realized that they had already disappeared while she was talking to Che’nya. Had his remark served as a vague hint that she should not approach them now? But for what reasons? Che’nya, nevertheless, was woven from riddles.
She picked up the fallen book, intending to put it back on the shelf, but became interested in the title, engraved in gilded letters: "Dead Kingdoms. Stories that have sunk into oblivion." Well... Maybe there really was something fateful in this meeting with Che’nya. Taking the book and realizing that the sunset rays began to change into cold evening ones, Yuu threw a quick glance at the place where the two students were sitting, and came closer. A suspiciously familiar smell of tea hovered over the table, and a playful sensation of something familiar and magical, tickled his veins. Yuu shifted her gaze to the table, where she found a colorful flier.
“Neige LeBlanche: Grand première”.
Yuu tilted her head, observing a boy’s silhouette. On the poster, he was turned with his back, his head slightly tilted to the side. The black poster stood out with a single element — a bright apple clasped in thin fingers.
She returned the flier to where it lay and decided it was time to head back to the clock tower.

Yuu hadn't yet taken this road back to the clock tower, but she wanted to take a walk to get a better view of the area. As Yuu passed by the garden railings, she felt an inexplicable attraction.
A feeling of unbearable longing penetrated her to the bones, penetrating into every cell of her body and responding with unbearable pain. She missed her mansion garden, her surroundings, the whirlwind of mischievous Sprites and tender butterflies.
She wanted to go through the gate and restore the clarity of her mind, when suddenly a distinctly sharp smell of blood hit her nose. Yuu winced, gripping the book tighter in her hands. Blood was one of those smells that unpleasantly tickled the nose, made fairies writhe in dislike, and was generally unpleasant to her kind. … Or so Fairy Godmother taught her, and in particular she instructed her to avoid the source of the scarlet liquid.
However, despite the obvious unpleasant associations, Yuu did not feel such a persistent, painfully unbearable rejection. Someone could be in trouble, and she had no right to wonder what to do when there was only one answer.
The smell grew stronger closer to the edge of the campus, outlined by the forest. Yuu approached the entrance, touching the barks of the trees and feeling unequivocally calmer. The trees whispered to her to move on, every blade of grass shuddering with her step, and Yuu's frown deepened.
Yuu came to a small meadow, in the center of which was a small youthful figure. She silently moved a little closer, and greeted the person in a low voice.
“Good evening?..”
“Ah!!”
A startled person turned to her, revealing his stunned expression. Yuu was silent for a while, studying in amazement the delicate, most beautiful features of the youth who appeared before her. His eyes shone dark brown in the evening's cold hues, and his jet-black hair was neatly styled under a pretty beret. It took Yuu a moment to notice a few pomegranate drops of blood on his thin, graceful fingers.
His gaze followed hers, and he realized what she was staring at so intently. The boy smiled radiantly at her, and an unprecedented tenderness shone in his eyes with a quivering gleam.
“You must be surprised!” His voice seemed marshmallow-sweet to her, it was lulling and infinitely warm, like a warmed milk. “I hope I didn’t startle you? Please worry not, the blood’s not mine…”
“I know,” she nodded.
You don’t smell like this one, she wanted to say but refrained from doing that. Yuu sat beside him instead, finally noticing the one who was bleeding.
A small cute rabbit with a wounded leg.
“Ah,” she gasped. “A poor thing!”
“Indeed,” the boy replied with a note of genuine worry in his voice resembling a nightingale’s trill.
The movements of his fingers were full of caution, parental care and sincere concern.
“Did you come to help?”
He nodded, his gaze fixed on the rabbit. Yuu wanted to use healing abilities, but wondered if it could be revealed yet. Did they exist here? But before she could do anything, the boy frowned.
“If only I had something to bandage the wound…”
“Don’t worry,” Yuu answered. “I can help.”
“Huh?..” He blurted out on an exhalation comparable to the light touch of a cloud in the morning mist.
Yuu ripped off a piece of her sleeve, taking a guess that this move wouldn’t be considered something strange. She handed a piece of cloth, leaving the bandaging process to the boy.
His slender fingers deftly bandaged the wound, and the bleeding soon stopped. The rabbit looked up at the boy, blinking a couple of times before limping to his knees and perched there, falling asleep. In his huge eyes—two precious stones—a bright childish hope was born, supernovae flashed, and a radiant happiness resurrected. A burst of laughter escaped his scarlet lips, and he turned to Yuu, completely oblivious to the two crystal tears that rolled down his cheeks, not from oppressive sadness.
“Your eyes,” he said suddenly. “Resemble a ripe apple. They’re very beautiful.”
Yuu shivered. The only thing she heard about her eyes was that they’re quite terrifying because of their color resembling blood. And yet his gaze painted everything in a radiant sunny hue, and Yuu forgot for a moment where she was, fascinated by the gleam of his bottomless eyes.
“My name is Neige,” the boy said, and Yuu gasped again. Neige? The one she heard about today? “And you?”
“I am Yuu. You’re very kind, Neige.”
He closed his eyes, and the corners of his lips pulled up, forming the most tender smile. Neige was so guileless in his innocent kindness and gentle friendliness that Yuu felt how the natural skepticism that wrapped her mind in thick vines began to melt like liquefied cotton candy.
“Hmm,” he nodded. “Thank you for your help. You too are very kind.”
“No, I…”
“I need to get going, it’s already late.” Neige stood up, carrying the rabbit extremely carefully to not hurt it. “See you around, Yuu.”
Neige waved goodbye to her with his free hand, and the moment he turned around, Yuu smiled back at him, feeling an unexpected stab of a longing feeling, alien to his image, pierced her very heart. The corners of her lips slowly dropped as soon as she noticed the fading spark, vibrating with viscous yearning in the bottom of his eyes.
“Have a nice dream today.”
“Yes, good night… Neige.”
Yuu watched the boy's receding silhouette. Thoughts did not obey her attempts to sort them into the shelves of her mind, confused by the illusory sadness, which flashed in the amber of Neige's eyes, resembling an autumn wind.
And yet she hoped for a nice dream today nevertheless.

★﹒﹒NOTES
✧˖ Yuu uses an archaic Japanese feminine form 妾 (わらわ / warawa). It was humble and self-effacing, but in most of historical anime/novels/etc it's used by female characters of high social standing. ✧˖ Mīnne — variation of Old English form 'min', meaning 'my/mine'. Another way of emphasizing Yuu's pronouns choice.
✧˖ Characters speak Japanese, but Yuu-You puns were inevitable, so don't be surprised :)
✧˖ 'Á lelya' — Appear (in a demanding, impreative way). Yuu uses Quenya (a constructed language devised by J. R. R. Tolkien) in her speech when casting magic spells.
✧˖ The dorm names are revealed! I'll provide you with detailed meanings of word formation used, but try doing your own research and of course have some fun!! (like we did with my bestie creating all of them~)
✧˖ Three new characters were introduced! Have fun guessing them too, given we deviated from the originals in terms of their appearances ha-ha... ✧˖ In case the dorm colors aren't compitable with your tumblr color palette choice, here's the names in a list: — Merheronelle — Dýnamieisos — Pandora Charm — Huriirada — Edelwiese — Florevel — Kifurijua
