It felt like the only time she left the tower was for her morning walks, battles that needed her might, or whenever Carol had an idea to get Kassandra to experience some new part of the modern era she thought the immortal would enjoy. And it hasn't failed yet. Carol had managed to cure her boredom every single time. The troubling thing was, she realized a familiar feeling was brewing in her gut. That fluttering feeling whenever Carol checked in on her. At first, she chalked it up to the fact that the blonde felt responsible for her. But it felt like something else. The woman became the first friend Kassandra had since awakening once more.
But... what if it was more than that? There is no mistaking what the Keeper is feeling, she knows that flutter.
Of course, she doesn't realize she's staring until Carol waves a hand in front of her face. "Hello, ground control to Kassandra. Are you okay? You zoned out on me." Unfortunately, she only parses about half of that. She's searching for something, a sign that Carol feels that same feeling she does. The Keeper shakes her head. "I'm fine. I just... got lost in thought is all." Or her eyes. Damn. She has to know, she has to know that it's not just her.
Studying her features just a moment longer, her eyes momentarily fall on her lips. Gods, either she's about to misread this entire thing or she's about to make the best decision since she was revived. Her hand reaches out to grab Carol by the lapel of her bomber jacket, pulling her in as she presses a kiss against her lips, tasting the chapstick on her lips.

It was quite the adjustment period, going from ancient warrior to woman of the modern world. An adjustment period she is still going through. Smart phones confuse her, tv remotes confuse her. Ancient yet advanced godly tech? Not a problem, figuring out how to work the smart refrigerator? Catastrophic. Sometimes she wonders if she leans on Carol too much for guidance but moments like this tell her that's preposterous. Carol always seems happy to help her, even if there's a chuckle or two thrown in, she never feels disrespected by it. It's clear she isn't the only one here who had to be caught up on modern technology, she was just the furthest behind.
With Carol, Kassandra feels more confident about her place in a world that had forgotten her. A Greek myth that was lost to time, not like her further ancestors like Herakles or even her grandfather Leonidas. She was a legend lost to time some place, somewhere, an unidentifiable statue of a hero. But here she is not forgotten, she is remembered, she is loved. Could there be any greater feeling than that?
Kassandra loves the way Carol smiles, especially when there's a bit of mischief and seduction to it. Even more so when she can tell she's genuinely happy. Isn't that all anyone ever wants? Brown eyes fall half-lidded as Carol's hands move, tilting her head so Carol could have a better angle to kiss her lip and then her chin. Kassandra's hands find her hips, pulling her close and humming contently. "You know how to make a woman feel welcome in the modern world." It's cheesy, she doesn't care. She just wants to spend the whole night with Carol, doing whatever they please.
DID YOU KNOW THAT WHEN KASSANDRA MESSAGED HER OVER THE TV ... carol was standing over a console on her ship. head bowed. wondering once again how she got caught up in somebody else's war and if she was even doing the right thing. A WOMAN OF WAR , always. and kassandra's question was so simple. it reminded her that it wasn't always. so she picked up her head and answered the question , then helped the side that truly needed help. because that's what she does.
... and then she goes home. and unlike rhodey , she doesn't doubt herself with kassandra. she still can't quite explain what it is. HE DOESN'T DO IT ON PURPOSE. he's too good for that , she just somehow doubts herself around him. maybe he's too fragile , too human , too homebody. and maybe kassandra is a little bit more of a balance. that keeps her more grounded.
it's all in the way carol smiles. maybe a little devious , a little seductive , definitely HAPPY . not that a date didn't sound enticing , but it's obvious when carol is into someone when she just wants to stay in. SHE'S ALWAYS ON THE GO OTHERWISE . carol's hands shift , fingers gliding along kassandra's jawline until they were resting near kassandra's ears. just so she could tilt the taller woman's head down more. a kiss is pressed against kassandra's bottom lip. then her chin. THE SMILE IS STILL THERE . the night is about to belong to them.
and maybe an alien cat for some food.

θ::|| @torntruth | carol danvers has encountered the legend
Time was strange, especially when one had lived as long has she had. Years and their passage meant nothing, a lifetime for the average person was just a blink in her prolonged existence. But one day, time seemed to just stop for her. Everything seemed to stop. But the world went on without her. Five hundred years she was gone, trapped in an ancient and strange tomb hidden inside Mount Parthenion with no way out. And for those five hundred years she slept, waiting for someone or something to free her. Ikaros, her companion, who had not been so fortunate to spend 500 years in a deep slumber, perks his head in the direction of a sudden, very loud, sound coming from the other end of the tomb. Ever curious the bird flies towards the sound, hoping that maybe someone had finally come to free his companion who he couldn't save.

“Do you want to do something?” A pause, because carol doesn’t even particularly know what hang out option to offer. “We could watch a movie, go out, wind down. Whatever.”

She looks up from her spot on the couch. The better part of the morning had been spent in the common room of Avengers Tower with tea and some reading but not much else. Kassandra was still uncertain of the modern world, and not quite comfortable with navigating it alone. So when Carol asks if she wants to do something, her eyes light up a bit. "I do, actually. There's a lot I want to do," she catches how eager she sounded and pulls back a bit. "Did you mean a movie in a theater and not on the..." she pauses, trying to remember the word and gesturing at the big screen tv mounted to the wall, "what do you call the box thing... tv?" At least she thinks that is what Steve had called it. "I want to get out of the tower for the afternoon, so whatever you'd like to do sounds fine by me." A smile punctuates her sentence as she looks up to the woman who had freed her just over a month ago.

They had been together for over a month now and Kassandra is getting used to being in a relationship again. All the wonderful highs such a relationship brings. Carol wanted to take it slow, something she respects. The kisses are enough to keep her satisfied for now anyway, the world is so overwhelming with everything she's learning, it's probably easier this way.
They were getting ready to head out on another date, Carol wanting to take Kassandra to a science fiction exhibit in one of the city's many museums. Anything Carol was excited about Kassandra was too, because it made her happy. It's when she's throwing on her jacket that Carol makes that remark. It almost feels out of the blue, and the immortal walks over to her, stopping right in front of her and straightening out the lapels of the woman's coat.
"I can't argue with that," she says, lingering close to her lips. "You found me in a mountain."

She had to explain to Carol that Leonidas and Gorgo were her grandparents and while she had never had the chance to meet them in life, she did have a more spiritual meeting with Leonidas and it was a peaceful one. But that movie had been so weird. It made her curious if any historical movie got her era right. She was very hesitant to watch Troy and the Illiad predated her time, but she had grown up on Homer's epics.
But still, she's willing to endure it because she can tell Carol the real story afterwards, and Carol genuinely seems interested in her stories and history. It made her feel like those she knew and loved were not forgotten by history.
"He was, but I don't know that I'm as much a mix of him and Athena as I used to be. I always found myself to be a bit more like Hermes... a smartass. Once I open up more, at least. I was never actually good at parties. So, definitely not Dionysus, though I could lose myself in hedonism back in the day." A coping mechanism, but she was reluctant to expand on that with Carol. She had remembered their discussion about Carol's past with alcohol, and she didn't want to bring the mood down. Instead, Kassandra takes a big bite of the pizza. "If they had this back in my time, I feel the soldiers would want this instead of the black broth they often drank at camp."
carol just thoroughly enjoys how much befriending kassandra has made her stop and truly , TRULY , think about culture. not that she's going to deny she enjoys the movie because it's hot -- but now she gets to think about ( and then ask ) how a real spartan / ancient greek would react to something historical. or that it made her realize how historically accurate it isn't.
... there is still a part of a carol that is deathly afraid that she's only into kassandra because kassandra is wholly interesting. as if that isn't a GOOD THING .
" i heard dionysus is a fun guy. aren't you already this neat mix of that guy and athena anyway? " that was posed less as a question and more of her observation as carol sits down on the blanket , reaching for her own piece of pizza and the ranch. this pizza place does do homemade ranch , too.

Kassandra's mind races. This can't be right, Carol wouldn't do this to her. They were friends, more than friends by this point. She'd been nothing but kind and generous to her. The woman is acting like she got a hold of one of the Artifacts of the Olympos. They had been known to twist the mind and grant powers to those who possess them. Her staff is one such artifact, but one she was born to wield. It is her birthright.
"Carol... why are you doing this?" The comment hurts a little, but that isn't what's important here. She readies herself again, she'll defend herself if she must, to stop Carol, to save her from whatever is doing this to her. What other choice does she have? Carol may have just become a threat to humanity, and it is her job to protect the people of this realm. And yet, as the other woman removes her helmet, all Kassandra can see is the tiredness, the desperation. Carol doesn't want to do this... she's under duress.
Kassandra moves closer, a hand outstretched in a sign of peace. "Carol, what's happened to you?" She stops short the instant the hero raises her hand and points at her.
"A bomb?" How the fuck is she going to fix a bomb when she can barely figure out a smartphone? Would she even have time to get Bucky to help her? Gods, she may have to do this on her own, a thought that she's not too fond of, to say the least. "I'll take care of it, Carol. And then I'm going to save you." She winces when the charge courses through Carol's body, leaving her wracked with pain. What could she even do at this point though? She has to stop the bomb.
As Carol takes off, Kassandra focuses on what she said. Refugee camp? The far end of the city? It's a big city and she hasn't even explored all of it. It could be anywhere on the outer edge! Don't think, just move. She could look up refugee camps in the city on her way, she at least knows how to search for things on that new phone of hers.
𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐀𝐑𝐄 𝐀 𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐋𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐀𝐆𝐎𝐍𝐈𝐙𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓𝐒 𝐈𝐍 𝐂𝐀𝐑𝐎𝐋'𝐒 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐃 , flitting between just wanting to be controlled without her mind. flinching at herself. rogue did that once. it is still just as heartwrenching. it'll always just break her. carol floats upward , this close to leaving. 𝚜𝚘 𝚍𝚊𝚖𝚗 𝚌𝚕𝚘𝚜𝚎. but ...
" ... you are not an avenger. " carol's though out loud , in her extremely rough and tired voice. it was more so for herself and vox supreme than it was for kassandra. feet touch the ground again , yanking off the helmet to the messiest hair , sunken and exhausted blue eyes. the bags under her eyes were absolutely excruciating. she can go days without sustenance or sleep , it doesn't mean it still doesn't take a toll on her.
she can already hear vox supreme barking at her in anger because he's currently blind on what she's doing and deaf to what she's saying. he still has her location , just not what she's exactly doing or saying. the hand without the helmet raises , pointing directly at kassandra.
" there's a refugee camp at the end of the city with a large bomb ticking away , he will detonate it if i don't do what he says. fix it. you can not go to any of the avengers , find bucky if you must for help. just fix it. " all of that is so rushed , but it's rushed enough that she gets it all out before vox supreme activates the electric charge. it courses through her body painfully enough that she grunts and falls to one knee before putting the helmet back on. it stops.
fortunately for her , he just wants her to do what he wants. she can't do that if she's writhing in pain. then she pushes off , flying into the next room with no care of walls , as if the pain was her only real sustenance right now.

Kassandra could never truly say she had a home. Not in the traditional sense. Sparta hadn't been home in thousands of years, her ship was a home on the ocean but she couldn't stay there forever. There were lovers throughout the centuries, but they were few and far between. They were homes, though. Home is in her lover's arms, resting peacefully. So Carol is home, and when Carol is off-world, Kassandra grows homesick. She'll message her over the most mundane things, things she could ask the others for help with, but she wants Carol's help. Because that's her home. Her person.
Love is one of the few constants in the world, and her love has a name here. Her love is dancing along her lips right now, here in this room that suddenly feels cut off from the rest of the world. Just how she likes it right now.
It's not until they stop, the firm, flat surface of the wall pressing against her back, that Kassandra realizes just how much they've lost themselves to this kiss. In the best way, if she's being honest. A kiss that can warp your sense of space around you, the kind that guides you without thought? Those are the kisses she likes best. All consuming, a battle between their lips, where nothing else in the world matters outside of that moment. She can feel her heart pounding in her chest with excitement. To be in love, to be loved, it's worth the 500 years she lost, trapped in that mountain tomb, to meet Carol here in the present. Her savior becomes her friend becomes something more.
Something deeper that words couldn't always express.
Kassandra hears the way in which Carol breathlessly whispers against her lips. A low hum passes her own, "I think I already forgot we had one to begin with..."
IT'S NEVER BEEN MORE TRUE , HAS IT? home is not a place , but a person. WHERE YOUR HEART BELONGS . because they all know kass is out of place , navigating even a remote. learning how to use all these smart devices , technology that is so vastly different than technology of her time. but none of that particularly matters , does it?
if there's one thing that never really changes , IT'S LOVE . the way you hold somebody's hand under the stars will never change. the way a kiss feels just will never change. it's love.
they keep moving backwards , this time a little subconciously because a wall stops them. the hand wrapped around kassandra's shoulders reach out , palm pressing against the wall , as if she even needed stabilize herself. it was actually more so she was momentarily caught off guard at exactly how into the kiss she was ... and something she had particularly avoided up until this exact point. NOT THAT IT MATTERS . they just had the previous conversation because carol was pointing out that she fell in love without the physical intimacy. SHE HAD VERY PROMPTLY FELL IN LOVE WITH THE IMMORTAL .
... but she also just knew the physical intimacy would drive her absolutely insane at that point. AND SHE WAS NOT WRONG .
" do you mind if we postpone the date for a later time? " and it's the way that carol danvers , a literal shooting star , sounded out of breath when she whispered that question right against kassandra's lips.

It's a sense of belonging, something she never really had before now. Aside from her crew on the Adrestia all those years ago, and even then, she was still the odd one out. Beyond powerful, an immortal among men. How was she supposed to feel like she belonged anywhere? And now here she is, not the only powered being, not the only ancient being, almost normal in that every one of the things that made her stand out before was shared by at least one other person here. And isn't that something she always wanted? Belonging?
And then Carol, a modern day warrior, a pilot, a champion. A woman after her own heart, if she's being honest (and she is). She feels most at home around her, able to truly be herself and ask whatever she wants without feeling like she will be judged for asking a stupid question. Carol is as eager to share as Kassandra is to learn. And for that, the Keeper can't help the way she always wants to be by her side.
Her bond with Carol is like no other, and she honestly prefers it that way.
They had plans. Key word had. But as Carol wraps her arms around her, pressing against her as they move away from the door, she knows those plans are going to have to wait. There's someone who holds her interest far more than any plans ever could. And her lips aren't quite ready to part for air.
AND THAT IS QUITE POSSIBLY THE SIMPLEST ANSWER FOR WHY THEY WORK TOGETHER EFFORTLESSLY . one without the other and it wouldn't have worked. a chair does not stand correctly without all 4 of it's legs or wheels. the fight went the way they wanted it to go because they had all four legs of the chair and there's nobody that was going to knock one out from the other. IT WASN'T JUST SIMPLY TEAMWORK , a bond forged , just as the avengers always has been. kassandra fits.
... but if carol is to be far more honest , kassandra belongs to her in a way nobody else here can quite share. carol has a certain possessiveness over kassandra that is not unlike a pride. kassandra doesn't belong to her like a selfish thing , kassandra belongs to her like a thing she can cherish and take care of.
and quite possibly that little bit is not a thing she cares to share. steve and tony are their friends. but kassandra is hers.
carol's pushing her frame into kassandra's frame , one arm is looping rather lazily around kassandra's shoulders. they are moving away from the door. SLOWLY AND DISTRACTED , but none the less ... it's away from the door.

Kassandra wasn't sure what disturbed her more about that movie, the fact that it was so painstakingly historically inaccurate (not a single cuirass in sight on the Spartans, and completely ignored that other city-states were there as well) or the fact that the man playing her grandfather looked suspiciously like her dear Brasidas. She had to bite her knuckle a few times to keep herself from shouting at the TV in Attik Greek. The formations and battle tactics were also completely wrong. At least the snacks were good, she could stuff her mouth with popcorn to keep from saying too much.
It was incredibly lonely at first, even with Carol's help, Kassandra awoke to the familiar pain that everyone she ever knew was dead, a terrible recurring theme for the immortal Spartan.
"You spoil me with all this food. I'll be more of Dionysus than Athena at this rate. Not a bad fate, by any measure, though." Modern food is just an absolute delight! So many things she hasn't tried yet, and food from so many nations all in one city. She will keep Carol busy at this rate. "Oh, yes! I like this stuff. It reminds me of tzatziki!"
carol does have to admit that she doesn't like it because it's , at all , historically accurate. SHE HATES IT FOR THAT REASON. the move is just pure eye candy , in action and in physicality. that is the only reason that movie is popular. gerard butler can get it , he's so fine in that movie. it should also be noted that she's not mentioning all that to her current girlfriend because she thinks kassandra will get jealous -- she is honestly respectful of the fact that because of kassandra she realized the movie makes a mockery of someone from that era.
... carol couldn't honestly imagine the loneliness of waking up in this era without a single person to rely on.
" it's a candy. i'll buy you some later. " oh the light joy in her voice , carol just sets the pizza on the blanket and finds a spot next to the box to pluck up two pieces and set each one on a plate. " there's ranch here too. "

The truth was, they all needed each other. Kassandra would have been stuck in that mountain still if it wasn't for Carol and the Avengers finding out about her and using her against the ancient god, and the Avengers would have been at a severe disadvantage without Kassandra's knowledge and might when it came to the matter at hand. The fact that they, especially Carol, kept her from losing her mind with loneliness in the process just made things all the better. The only person to lose in this situation was the shared enemy.
While Kassandra is still trying to navigate this strange world, at least she has people by her side who can help her in this situation and she couldn't be more grateful. Especially with Carol at her side, to show her the way through this strange modern world and help her navigate her heart.
She doesn't have time to respond to Carol's thank you before the woman's strong hands cup her jaw and pull her in for a deep, messy kiss. The kind Kassandra loves the most. Her arms wrap around the pilot even more, holding her close against her as she returns that passion, grateful to have found her, or rather been found by her. She owes her heart to this woman, she only hopes Carol knows how much she means to her.
AND IT'S NEVER THAT KASSANDRA WOULDN'T HAVE LEARNED THE MODERN WORLD -- it's just that the isolation could have been so very lonely. the avengers probably couldn't have done it without their ancient wisdom , just as well. a god returning from an ancient world where he doesn't belong and where he only wants to wreak havoc and carol's sure the avenger's could have figured out a weakness eventually ... but eventually is too long. WITH TOO MANY PEOPLE HURT .
now it's just kassandra and carol and the rest of the avengers making sure it doesn't happen again ... while kassandra and carol get to be a couple. and carol isn't TRULY frightened for once. she has a fear of messing it up. NOT ENOUGH TO RUN AWAY , just enough to mention it. TO FIX IT .
" thank you , " carol just breathes out and it sounds so relieved. her hands shift to the sides of kassandra's jawline before she leans into kassandra and just pulls the other woman into such a full and messy kiss. something that almost mirrors their first kiss. AS POETIC AS IT SHOULD BE .

Discovering all the new things the world had to offer didn't have to be scary. Not with Carol as her guide. The woman knew good food, and she always had interesting movies to show her, except 300, that movie had her so riled up she couldn't see straight, and she just knew Carol was trying not to laugh and be supportive. It was ridiculous in retrospect.
Her awakening in the 21st century could have been disastrous, should have been. But Carol never made her feel out of place, her patience and humor throughout everything had meant the world to Kassandra. It made her feel like more than just a curiosity from the past. She felt like a person.
Sometimes, in moments like this especially, Kassandra doesn't feel like she's thousands of years old. She feels young, like she's at the prime of her youth, experiencing all the world has to offer. And today it offers pizza, in all its gooey goodness. Seeing Carol smile in reaction is honestly just as good as the promise of pizza, the woman had a smile that could light up the cosmos.
"What is a sour patch kid? Did you bring one? I don't see any children here..."
the stress just melted away at the simplicity of this moment. this feels like a moment that was so weightless , it's as free as the woman before she gained powers , before she became the boss of space , before she fought wars for earth and wars for so many other planets until there was just more than one planet on her shoulders. this just feels like captain danvers , flying her favorite fighter jet to even fly. CHEESEBURGER.
... which is considerably ironic since the person she's having a date with is one of the least simple and most not normal people she has yet to meet. BUT FAR MORE INTERESTING.
it's the way carol's heart lurches with happiness when kass exclaims her name. IT SOUNDED SO HAPPY and if she had doubts prior , she certainly does not now. that was so true. carol's lips very instantly twitch into a smile , turning the box in her hands to open it up and present the pizza like a precious gift to kassandra. the smile turns into a light laugh.
" wait until you figure out what a sour patch kid is. "

Carol has been a lifeline in the ocean that is the modern world, keeping Kassandra afloat and bringing her in with her people. It helps, the Keeper would have been isolated otherwise, forced to learn the modern world on her own, her last memories being the Renaissance era, Europe. America as it stands now wasn't a thing. To say she is grateful to Carol is so terribly understated. She doesn't think she can ever adequately thank Carol for everything. Or for how close she feels to her now. Now where it's just the two of them.
Kassandra can't help the way she searches those beautiful blue eyes, just wanting to understand what's going through her mind. There is a softness to her features that is rarely seen by others.
There's hesitation in her voice. Carol wants to say something but she sounds so unsure, and yet, Kassandra gives her the time she needs, only slightly nodding as she speaks.
"Ah," there it is. The words take her back for a moment, she had felt the same way for some time, she only hadn't said it because she wasn't sure if it was right to say it so soon. Her thumb runs along Carol's cheek, that sweet smile returning to her face. "Good, good, I love you too! Σ'αγαπώ, σ'αγαπώ." She takes a moment to breathe briefly, having finally said it. "Please do not think you will mess this up, I don't think you could. You're wonderful."
IT HELPS THAT CAROL ISN'T CLOSED OFF TO KASSANDRA. at all , actually. kassandra was awakened because of an ancient evil [ defeated ] ... she just became a part of the avenger. there's very little secrets. KASSANDRA ALSO GETS ALL THE AVENGER SECRETS ... because she is them. what carol is saying is that there isn't anything 'confidential' either. carol danvers has been very open with the immortal and maybe that was something soft in the beginning. NOW IT'S JUST THEM .
... it's hard to explain but standing here with kassandra's calloused hands cradling her face is one of the softest things she knows. THE SAFETY IS UNMATCHED .
" yes , as in i like you a lot. i , uh , ... " a deep breath in , blue eyes making sure to meet golden eyes.
" ... i love you. and what i'm truly saying is i don't want to mess this up , especially in the affection department. "

It's funny how such a mundane sentence can have such a huge impact. Olives felt like home, as did grapes and pomegranates. And though Greece technically hadn't been home in over two thousand years (barring her imprisonment in the mountain tomb), she would always identify with it. It is where she came from, it will always be who she is. She is as ingrained in Greece's history as its greatest heroes and philosophers. So anything that Carol does that makes her feel like she's at home always feels so right. Especially since she's five hundred years out of touch.
She has everything set up on the roof. A blanket, two chairs, some drinks, flavored seltzer water because she remembers Carol mentioned she doesn't drink. Kassandra made a mental note about that right away for her sake. She doesn't even drink around her. Everything is perfect.
She sits in one of the lounge chairs, allowing her body to relax as she looks out upon the grand city before her. It's strangely beautiful, advanced like the realm of the gods, and yet with such a human touch. What sort of wonders and splendors did she miss in the five hundred years of slumber? She only had glimpses of it in history documentaries and books. The future is just... it's a lot to take in. Carol tries to make her feel welcome and it's been working. It keeps her from being overwhelmed.
Kassandra turns at the sound of Carol's voice, such a wonderful sound it is. Instantly her face lights up upon seeing her. Her and that delicious scent of the pizza wafting from the box. She'd never experienced it before Carol introduced her to it. Now she can't get enough of it. "Carol!" Oh, she can't help the excitement in her voice as she gets up to take the box from her.
As soon as she has the box she opens it to smell it. "Some things are worth the immortality. I could have died without ever knowing what pizza was. That would have been a shame." Of course, the real shame would have been that she never met Carol.
THE OLIVES ARE THE BEST PART , kassandra replies with an air of homeliness in her intonation and suddenly carol realizes she isn't doing anything wrong in a relationship for once. because a relationship is supposed to feel like coming home ... and she has confidence she's doing that for kassandra. carol's flying towards her favorite pizza place , calling in the order , breathing in the way she feels light. the way her heart beats in this happy way it just hasn't for awhile.
... and she still hasn't thought of the stars. she hasn't thought of how she's going to runaway. SHE HAS ONLY THOUGHT ABOUT ALL THE WAYS TO STAY GROUNDED. welcome home.
THE OLIVES ARE THE BEST PART , and she could sit there and giggle as that thought still occupies her mind. she actually pays for the pizza with those olives and really is only conscious of the moment when she opens the box and makes sure the olives are there. THEY ARE THERE. her mind is so unfocused , but positively so. there's only one place she wants to be.
" kassandra ... " and carol breathes the name out with seductive excitement as she lands on the roof. gracefully , one foot touching , then the other. THEN SHE'S GROUNDED. and she holds out the box of pizza , a smile absolutely curling up her lips enough that her teeth are flashing.
" i have your pizza with olives. "

To be honest, Kassandra really didn't want a fight as soon as she awoke, she was disoriented and confused. She hadn't moved a single limb in 500 years. She was rusty. She wouldn't have been much of a challenge, unfortunately. Luckily, Carol spoke to her first and her staff was able to decode the language and teach the Keeper in no time. Carol was an ally. And now a friend and more.
Her first clue should have been that Ikaros trusted her. He was the only one standing guard over her would-be tomb. And now here they are, Carol takes her to movies, to try new foods, to enjoy what modern life has to offer. Even managed to get her one of those smartphones that Kassandra has miraculously not broken yet.
For a long moment they stand there, Carol's eyes are closed but Kassandra's are very much open. She studies her face, curious about the sudden pause, the way her hands shift and she still lingers so close as to be right there and yet not moving further than that. She wonders what she's thinking about, if she's worried or happy in that moment, though her expression looks contented. It's like courting for the first time all over again, a degree of uncertainty nipping at her heels. And then Carol leans back in to kiss her again and all that concern melts away.
It's such a wonderful feeling, these slow kisses, the way her hands press to her face, and Kassandra's hands come to rest on her hips. They stay like this, in silence for another minute before Carol once more pulls back and for a brief moment they both kind of stand there unsure of what to do. Pizza, they were supposed to have pizza on the roof and the kiss just gave her a moment of forgetfulness. A good kiss will do that. The woman levitates a bit away and Kassandra notes how a little jealous she is that she can't do that. Not that she minds the impressive sight of it when Carol does it.
"Oh yes, please. The olives are the best part." It makes her think of home, a home that no longer was what she remembered.
there's a part of carol that just feels continously lucky that she was able to befriend and have a connection with kassandra. especially for a few seconds there after waking up kassandra she was wondering if she was about to find herself in an incredibly deadly fight. which would have been awful , they can't really defeat an old and powerful god without an ancient figure's help as is. hence the finding of kassandra.
and then like ... instead of a fight , she's just carrying an ancient immortal out of a tomb with the grumpiest face. she did feel bad about the whole thing , so it started with doing her best to make kassandra as comfortable as possible. there's even that one time she's pushing steve into the room to force him to help. god , she was absolutely trying. maybe it absolutely shouldn't be a surprise. the way she truly cared.
carol's hands move , both her hands just resting so languidly on kassandra's cheeks. blue eyes are closed. her lips still lingering. for a few seconds there , she forgot exactly what she was supposed to be doing. it's definitely kassandra's warm breath and all the happy reminiscing. this is actually the first time out of any of her relationships she isn't trying to get out of it. she's actually far more afraid of it ... ending. maybe with that thought , the happy little reminiscing , and kassandra right there -- it's why she leaned back in.
and why that new kiss was much slower and much more sensual. fingertips pressing lightly into kassandra's skin. it's a few more seconds , maybe more like a minute before carol pulls away again. she clears her throat , hands falling away from kassandra. she takes a step back and out of habit , she floats just off the ground , her aviator jacket shifting with the change , jeans crinkling , slightly small shirt clinging.
" i'll get pizza with some olives. give me like up to 30 minutes , but don't give up. i'll be back , i swear. "

Kassandra didn't understand a lot about the world she woke up to five hundred years later. But she understood emotion, she learned how to read people, how to truly know them years ago. She knew what partners were supposed to recognize in their loved ones. And so Carol became a quick read. There often is no greater sign of love than to be able to know your partner without them even having to utter a word. And she knows they are so very in love with one another.
As Carol's head shifts into Kassandra's hand, her thumb runs gently along her cheek, golden eyes studying her features carefully. The smile is so reassuring given her concern a few moments ago.
"Into me..." she ponders these words for a few moments. Modern colloquialisms are something she still struggles with. "As in you like me, a lot?" She chuckles. "You will have to continue to bear with my ignorance of modern terms, five hundred years is a lot of time to catch up on. If I'm right though, then yes, I know. I'm really... into you, too."
CAROL DOESN'T HATE IT ( loves it in fact ) , and maybe she's thinking that for herself more than even kassandra. she loves the relative knowledge of being known and understood by an ancient demigod with the world's softest smile and doe eyes. it's the way carol revels in the fact that she knows kassandra knows there's a shift in demeanor and breath. SHE IS SO IMPOSSIBLY IN LOVE WITH IT , ACTUALLY .
it's very romantically automatic when carol's blue eyes close and she just turns her head slightly more into one of kassandra's hands. she can't help the smile that curls her lips.
" i wouldn't say something is a matter. which doesn't sound like real words when put that way. i actually think it's the opposite. nothing is wrong , definitely. i just hope you know ... how into you i am. like , a lot. "
