@isbrilliant liked for a Sam Special for Donna
"Hey, Donna right?" Of course she was Donna. Talk of the town, or at least UNIT. The fiery companion of the Doctor, or so they say.
"I'm Sam, science division. Not usually around the office but got a backlog of samples I need to process so I've been chained to my desk for the next month." She paused for a moment to reign herself in, no need to chat the ear off the new woman in the squad. "So how you finding it here?"

@carbondated asked "just thought i’d give you a heads up." // for Sam
An ancient mineshaft, but not just any mineshaft—it was an extra-terrestrial one, a treasure trove for both geologists and archaeologists alike. The ship's scan, coupled with their handheld devices, initially suggested an absence of life, but experience taught Sam that such assurances could be deceptive. The heavy metal deposits within the shaft interfered with their scans, necessitating a surface excursion to gather more accurate data. Sam was never one to complain about surface exploration.
Sam, adjusting her helmet in response to River's warning, peered up from beneath the ledge, only to discover a cracked beam. A cautionary realisation settled in, a reminder to prioritise safety over impulsive actions—her penchant for the latter was duly noted in her personnel report. With a silent "oh" forming on her lips, she carefully maneuvered out from under the overhang.
"Thanks," she expressed, her gratitude laced with a touch of sheepishness. "Probably not the best place to be buried alive." Sam found solace in River's presence. While archaeology wasn't her expertise, there was a significant overlap between their fields—a shared passion for delving into the mysteries of the past, be it civilizations or environments.
"So, want to compare notes?" she suggested, brushing her hands together to pat some of the dust off her gloves.

@strgazers asked ❛ so, what do i owe this pleasure? ❜ ST Xandra to Sam
"Ayo, boss told me that I'm supposed to help you out for the next while. Didn't give me many details though."
The second part was a lie; all of the prepared work was written down in datalogs for Sam to revise. Although she did sit down with a hot chocolate and read through the notes, she'd prefer to hear it fresh from the actual person she's been assigned to work with.
It was nice greeting a civilian, none of the 'yes sir, no sir' business, just straight into the science. Plus, working on the biospheres was much nicer than being stuck on the Enterprise while it was docked.
"Something about soil chemistry?"

"Oh, yeah. You know what? That is fair," she nodded in agreement. The daily paperwork for these trips was bad enough, but the paperwork for injuries was, in some cases, more painful to her than the broken arm.
"Boring really, well no. Not boring. Actually, it's really interesting. You see, now that I'm thinking about it, there's a lot here." She closed down her datapad to gesture properly at the rock face.
"So you have your basic minerals that you expect to see in a mine: pyrite, chalcopyrite, a heavy dash of galena and sphalerite, but you know, it's a mine. Of course, you're gonna see all that stuff around the place."
There she beckoned River to come closer for a better look but failed to wait for her colleague to actually approach before continuing, too excited to share her ideas as they formed in her mind.
"The part that's really weird, though, is that these outcrops are fresh. Fresh enough anyway. So you know there's oxygen here?" She takes a deep breath to prove her point before taking a step towards the ledge before stopping herself. A moment of remembrance of the unstable beam, and she stepped back again. "So why haven't any of these minerals oxidized at all? Because well the pyrite here is just newly acquainted with the oxygen."
Oh, she was so proud of this discovery.
"I'm gonna need your input for the rest of this, though…"
She quite liked this new acquaintance of hers and as such, would hate it terribly if she were buried alive in a mine collapse. ❝ Spare a thought for the amount of paperwork I'll have to fill out if anything happens to you ... ❞ River's curled into a mischievous grin before shooting the beam above them a quick glance, just in case it decided to come reigning hell down on them today. Thankfully, it was holding. For now. ❝ Nothing much to report I'm afraid. I've got a few pot sherds at the entrance, some sort of rudimentary drinking horn. but nothing that suggests recent life at the surface level, though, it does seem tidy, doesn't it? For an abandoned mine. It's just odd. ❞ She pondered that thought for a while, a slight frown marring her features as she stared off into the darkened passageway beyond.
. ❝ what about you? anything? ❞

Sam (Samantha) Anderson: Lieutenant, junior grade with Starfleet and enthusiastic geologist and exogeologist with a vast amount of research and study in the field of planetary geology.
Main Verse (Star Trek)
From the 23rd Century Montana, Earth. Raised by two loving mothers who deeply encouraged the human connection with the Earth, Sam grew up exploring the Rocky Mountains and was constantly fascinated by the stories told within the cliff faces and mountain slopes around her.
Sam's youth was spent avoiding academia, having preferred to learn about the world around her through experience and not books. However, a chance meeting member of Starfleet inspired her to focus on one day exploring world's beyond. From that moment she was completely devoted to working hard in her studies and enlisting in the academy.
After graduating near the top of her class, Sam started her career within the science division of Starfleet. Her journey led her to serve on the renowned starship, the Enterprise, under the command of Captain Christopher Pike. Working within the science division, Sam delved into the wonders of exogeology. She was one to never turn down a trip to a new planet's surface.
Her collection of rocks, minerals, and crystals from across the galaxy served as important keepsakes of her adventures and discovers so far. However, amidst this collection, a small piece of limestone held a special place on the shelf by her bedside. A piece of home that grounded her amidst the vastness of the space and reminded her of the Earth that inspired her to traverse the stars and seek out new worlds.
Doctor Who Verse
Originally hailing from the scenic landscapes of Montana, USA, Sam Anderson is not your typical scientific officer with UNIT. While her official designation places her in the role of a scientific officer, you'll rarely find her confined within the bustling city of London, let alone the walls of the main headquarters. Her only trips back to the 'Big Smoke' are often driven by the need to use the lab for the study of lithological samples or to share her discoveries with the leading scientific officers.
Sam's explorations span the entire globe, taking her to anywhere UNIT needs her to be—from the craters of volcanoes to the depths of ice caverns nestled within glaciers. As a member of UNIT, she has access to the secrets of alien life, yet the concept never rattled her. She always figured the universe was too big to have only life on Earth and one day, she hopes to see the makeup of the universe from alien soil and underneath alien skies.
For now, her earthly adventures, coupled with her contributions to UNIT, keep her engaged and content.
