And to escape being outright executed for it, he was turned into a killer for him. And there is a sad part, despite hating him, that wants him to love him and care about him. Because he still is just a kid that wants to be loved.

Similar with Circe, he knows she is using him. That she wants his body basically. And that she will ultimately either take it or devour his aether and deprive him of whatever afterlife could exist. He is terrified of her and hates her, but she has also been the only other constant in his life aside from his father. So there is a level of codependency there as well. And Circe has had his entire life to mold him into the perfect vessel for her basically.

Hlynur engages it multiple types of self harm. Some are simply done with no thought at all. Others are stress responses. A few are done in extreme distress.

Subconscious.

Biting his bottom lip until it bleeds when stressed.

Picking at his skin when anxious. Mostly on his hands/fingers.

Responsive.

Punching hard objects when really angry.

Forcing himself to throw up

Biting his fingers or arms until he bruises himself

Intentionally picking fights to get hurt by another person physically or verbally.

Writing insults on himself with whatever he can find.

Extreme/Triggered

Cutting himself. Usually his arms or chest.

When Hlynur experiences the Echo, does he see the past? The future? Does he get visions at all? How else does it manifest for him?

He rarely ever gets the echo. The only time he has ever had visions was when someone died in front of him. Perhaps it is coincidence or perhaps the release of aether after death is the only way it is triggered for him. It is possible for him to get visions in other ways, namely if he is in extreme emotional distress. Most of the times he has had visions, it has been right as someone lost their life. And he tends to see their worst memory. As if they are engraving their regret and bitterness on his soul. He feels every bit of anguish and his visions are incredibly vivid. He never really got used to them because they are so rare. They almost ALWAYS lead to some sort of mental breakdown for him.

He, like almost everyone with the echo, can understand all spoken language. He doesn't really even realize it though. He can also sometimes "sense" people in a way. Though he can't tell if this ability to tell where someone is without seeing them is due to the echo, his contract with Circe, or just his training in stealth.

If he hadn't become a reaper, what class would Hlynur pick up?

So Lyn isn't actually a reaper. He's a hybrid of a reaper and ninja. It is more like instead of learning ninjutsu and stuff, he got more reaper-y moves. He can't do any of the more flashy ninja skills that focus on elements. But he CAN do more void-based attacks. Basically, I made up a class for him because I didn't want him to be a ninja (more like a rogue than ninja) but I didn't want him to be a reaper (I wanted him to be more of a traditional sneaky boy assassin). Which is why I am constantly insecure about him lmao. I need to go to both classes and really look at what skills from each he can do. I would compare him more to a trust npc like y'shtola or ryne who had more unique classes idk.

How did you meet Circe, Hlynur?

What a question. To hear anyone say her name sent a shiver up his spine. How had they met? Somewhere in that frozen hell, after his mother had died... Half-mad from hunger and the cold... Hlynur had been alone. When he came upon the corpse of a person with a large bladed weapon, he had not felt fear. He was beyond fear. All he did was search for food and steal whatever clothes he could carry to use for the cold. Circe had called him a vulture, and he had thought her the voice of death itself reaching out to claim him. He didn't know about the reapers in the empire prior to meeting her. And he wasn't sure what she had seen in him, just a terrified child.

"We crossed paths in Garlemald. That's it."

Another random thing!!! Lyn isn't often called his name by anyone. His father doesn't use his name ever when speaking to him. He doesn't even know if his father knows his name. Circe doesn't use his name either. She usually refers to him as pet names, which he hates.

Hlynur has a strong attachment to his name because it's the only thing aside from his life (which was a curse to his mother) that his mother gave him that he still has. He isn't used to being called by it. So when people do use it, it's a little odd to him. For a long time, it's been just something between him and his mother. And people not using it has gone really far in terms of dehumanizing him. He doesn't expect anyone to see him as a person. Because he's a curse. A bastard. A killer.

Random headcanon: Lyn is the type of person to immediately kick a dude in the balls if he thinks he's about to lose a fight. No honor just SURVIVE. He had to do anything to win because he was smaller/younger than most of the people he's killed. Like if he was disarmed he would kick, scratch, and bite anything to stop himself from being killed.

As someone who was basically on the verge of starving his entire childhood, he isn't picky. He hasn't really tried a lot of indulgent foods like sweets, but he would really like them if he did. Though if you gave him something really spicy he would probably think you poisoned him. He isn't really aware of a lot of foods and he would try anything, though he wouldn't really enjoy really spicy food at all.

He would, however, really love pastries and cakes.

Does he have any daily routines/practices?

He will mostly just like... Clean himself up a little and try to find something small to eat in the morning. And then practices his fighting stuff and basically talks to Circe. And then after that, it just depends on what job he has to do. And when he goes to bed, he is usually so exhausted that he just collapses and does it all again the next day.

Does Hlynur have anything he likes to do in his spare time? Any hobbies or things he does to clear his mind?

Not really. His only hobby is training to fight more. I would say that he is usually too busy to have downtime, constantly jumping from one job to the next. When he does have spare time, he usually just practices fighting or other skills he uses for work or does whatever he can to prevent a single thought from occurring in his head.

Fun fact! Lyn can channel Circe's power but will not allow her into his body at all out of fear that that she won't give it back.
