❝ only the deepest love will persuade me into matrimony. ❞ she grabs a cup of lemonade from the table, falling into place beside allison. her words are defeated, a hint of annoyance laced. kate does not wish to partake in the traditions of the ton. has no real interest in the marriage mart, except to find a match for her sister. and so she had been forced to turn down another dance, despite lady danbury’s warning against such faux pars. kate finds she simply doesn’t care. ❝ men are either eaten up with arrogance or stupidity, and if they are amiable they’re so easily led that they have no minds of their own whatsoever. ❞

‘ you do love him, don’t you? ’ @diamonnd
gaze searches the gardens below. he’s not there, kate’s almost certain of it. she’d feel his presence, even from this grand room that’s become her refuge. as she always does when anthony bridgerton enters a room. he seems to draw her gaze, as if something within him is reaching out for her. fingers grip the ledge of the window, as eyes flutter to a close. how can she be thinking such things on this day? it was supposed to be the happiest day of edwina’s life - and she’d ruined it completely. a deep breath leaves her lungs, gaze turning back to the people below. waiting. any moment a footman, or anthony himself, might appear to usher everyone back into the wedding hall. she finds herself dreading such a thing.
❝ your grace! ❞ kate jumps, hand resting against her heart. she hadn’t seen the duchess since they’re stay at aubrey hall. since - she swallows, hard. trying to rid her mind of thoughts of the viscount in the library. lips so close it would have taken hardly any movement for them to connect. they’re lucky, she had always thought, that it had only been daphne who found them, or this wedding could have been her own. but would that have been so terrible?
❝ i - ❞ love? kate had tried with all her might not to entertain the idea. he was betrothed to her sister. it wasn’t proper. but no logic could apply to the matters of the heart, it seemed. ❝ you must think me foolish. ❞

❝ let me assure you - ❞ kate stands, features set in a stoic line, arms crossed. she knows that considered rather scandalous to refuse a dance from a gentleman, but she’s sure the ton will forgive her for this one. after all, she has read all about @dreamwaited’s exploits in the pages of lady whistledown. she knows her mama would say she should not believe the worse of a gossip columnist - but had the mysterious lady whistledown ever been wrong before? she certainly hadn’t been about viscount bridgerton. ❝ your reputation certainly does proceed you, my lord. as such i am perfectly content where i am. ❞
