“You...!” That demon horse...was it not once the stead of Hakudoshi? Had he not been destroyed by Inuyasha back then then again, Hakudoshi had reappeared too, even after Miroku’s kazana had sucked the boy in, and was now associating with her little brother.? What business did Entei have here? Nonetheless, Sango had her hiraikotsu at the ready should the horse yōkai try anything. No need for it to know she was no longer an ordinary human taijiya unless it was necessary, after all. Time to see if the glamor that she learned to hide her markings and ‘yōki’ worked on yōkai.

Sango wouldn’t be too pleased to hear that Kagome thought her reasoning was superficial, but she wouldn’t exactly blame the young miko either. Most thought it was, and Miroku...he’d wanted children, and Sango felt a house full of little ones would be too much for her and Kohaku then. Too noisy, and she wouldn’t be able to give Kohaku her full attention if she also had Miroku and a number of children to worry about too. To make Miroku wait for something he wanted so badly, she felt was entirely as cruel as being with him even if she didn’t love him the same, nor could she give him her whole self while she still fretted over Kohaku. But...this wasn’t the story Kagome was eager to hear. If she already wasn’t so pleased about the Miroku situation, only the gods knew what the miko would say about her curse. Taking a deep breath, and using the pitter patter of rain on invisible glass to center herself, Sango began her tale.
“It was not long after you’d gone back to your time, actually. Kohaku and I didn’t linger too long in the village after I called off the marriage, we live where our village once stood now. I got a particularly dangerous job one day, and reluctant to involve Kohaku with something of that caliber just after finally defeating Naraku...I sent him to visit Rin while I was away, had him take Kirara in case he needed a quick getaway. I followed my client to a far off village, it took days to get there on horseback. It sat at the base of this mountain, the miasma...it was admittedly on par with Naraku’s, but it was far too late to call for back up, so I went on ahead...” she paused for a moment, gazing up at the sky. “That place...it was so...devoid of life. The rock was black as night, not a sign of vegetation, animals, nothing. Just her puppets, demons and the walking dead...her sacrifices, young women and girls from the village, they hung from the walls everywhere you looked. All dead, drained for some...potion to extend the life of the witch who brewed it. By the time I got up to her, it felt like I fought for days just to get there...I was so livid, so...so clouded with rage over what I’d seen that I just barreled in like an amateur...” Sango shut her eyes tightly for a moment, the pictures so clear in her mind. The blood, the bones, the cries coming from the lost souls swirling around in that massive cauldron...
“I startled her, she’d finished her wicked ritual and was about to cast the spell on herself. When she turned, she accidentally flung it at me. Whatever dark magicks were in there, they hit me straight in the chest and flung me back into something. I don’t remember what happened after, just waking up in the wreckage. The whole mountain had exploded, there was debris everywhere. I was so confused at first, nothing hurt at all, actually...I can’t really say I felt anything at that moment. I was just...numb. I couldn’t understand why I was unharmed until I found a page caught in my hair. I guess..that monster was after immortality through blood sacrifice, and when that spell hit me instead of her, I absorbed her and the contents of the cauldron...” the woman was furioulsly rubbing at her eyes now, to avoid the tears. “It’s some kind of miracle Kohaku doesn’t look at me any differently, I’m no better than Naraku now,” she glanced over at her once dearest friend, her eyeshadow completely smudged. “Kagome...this is the true reason why the villagers don’t want me anywhere near the village. Kaede still welcomes me...but I try to stay away now if I can help it, only Kohaku can come and go without trouble now...” there was still some distance left to go before they reached the village, maybe it would be better if she had Kagome give Kaede the medicinal tea that Sango had made. It would get less looks from the villagers if Kagome was the one holding it.
tennoyuriii·:
Of course Sango knew how much it hurt him, she wasn’t naive….but…with all the hurt he had put her through with all his flirting, even after their engagement…it wasn’t as hard to leave him as one would think for other reasons as well, but we aren’t getting into that, ever. And it was as Sango said; Kohaku needed her far more than Miroku, she was all the boy truly had other than Kirara. She thought she’d be okay with it all, but she hadn’t been. Not with all the uncertainty and cheating he’d saddled her with over the time they’d known each other. Sango hadn’t been okay with it at all, and again, she had a place…so she cancelled their engagement. Though…she wasn’t surprised everyone took Miroku’s side, and she appreciated his kindness in telling the villagers to forgive her for putting her brother first. No…the reason they didn’t speak of her, Miroku now included… really, only Shippou, Inuyasha, Rin, and Kaede spoke to her when they crossed paths.
Tumblr media
“Mm…I’m sure someday he’ll find someone who deserves him,” she mumbled, smiling at her mental picture of Inuyasha and Kagome’s reunion, Inuyasha’s expression of his joy (even if that meant a spat). He was happy, that was good… it was surprising to hear Kaede was still doing so well at her age, but good to know that Kagome had a proper priestess teaching her. “It’s good to hear they’re doing well, I was worried,” Sango admitted, perhaps she should check up on Kaede regardless when she brought Kagome back, if she wasn’t met with the violence of the villagers. At the question of how she was able to keep the rain off them, her shoulders tensed slightly. Oh, Kagome was not going to like this…
“It’s…a long story, but I suppose we have time…” she bit her lip.
「巫女」::  She hadn’t told her Miroku didn’t talk about her…And she might not. It all depended. The miko felt very sad for the houshi…and very surprised that Sango broke it off…Kohaku aside…Technically she could have been with Kohaku and Miroku…But that was neither here nor there. The truth was: Sango just didn’t love the monk the way she thought she did. And that was that. She didn’t need any superficial excuses like being with Kohaku.
But the miko didn’t pry into that. She gave a soft noncommittal “mm” to the girl’s claim that Miroku would find someone, and instead tilted her head as she said it would be a long story for how she was able to use this force field thing.::
Tumblr media
“Yeap. we definitely have time~! So explain away~ I can’t wait to hear the story. Heh.”
::She grinned, Also realizing that Sango didn’t seem–happy with the fact she could do it? But she tried to lighten it with the grin.::

Both the slayer and the horse had secrets that they kept to themselves, however, after being captured and kept like he was a prized bird by a power demon who was the lord of the north made his blood boiled. He never expected to see this human girl again after so many years. Snorting as he laid down on the ground his all his legs in chains he glared not giving her any satisfaction.
Sango had immediately regretted not using, or even revealing that she had these new powers when the northern demon lord captured her. Initially, she’d allowed it to see what the bastard was up to, but after a little too much groping and being put in chains in the same room as an old adversary? She wished she’d just used her power to escape.
She hadn’t kept track of how long it had been since her gaining immortality, it hardly mattered. All she really had to keep track was that her old friends’ children were almost as old as Kagome had been when they first met, that much was clear. Kohaku and Rin (and Hakudoshi, interestingly enough) had children now too, she wondered which one would be Kirara’s next partner. Kirara had been passed down to each of the chief’s children of their village as far as she could remember, and as the nekomata had once been passed to her, years ago she’d passed her onto Kohaku. The flaming horse yōkai across from her made her think of Kirara made her miss her beloved kitty too, even as the chained up horse snorted and glared at her. There was no satisfaction to be had on either side, like this, and so she sighed as she got back to work on breaking the advanced shackles around her extremities and neck, purple sparks bouncing from the pieces with her effort. Sango was still learning, so even with her power, it would still be tricky to defeat the demon...but perhaps if she could get Entei’s cooperation....

So Entei wanted to play, huh? That suited Sango just fine, it had been awhile since she’d faced a good challenge. One thing was sure, Sango didn’t underestimate this yōkai; his eyes were far too intelligent, spoke more than enough for his lack of tongue. No, there was more to Entei than a mindless beast, and as the horse circled her, trying to intimidate her with his size please, she’s fought way bigger before, she looked him directly in the eye, brown eyes briefly flashing pinkish purple as she used her hidden third eye seal to read him properly. He was far more powerful than he let on, heck, it seemed he was at the same level in power of yōkai like Sesshomaru. Both were curious about the other, why not satiate it proper?
Tumblr media
With a flash, Sango drew the wakizashi at her hip, disappearing and reappearing from speed she should not have, grazing the right flank of the demon horse. Not enough to seriously injure, but to potentially catch the horse off guard. Almost playful, teasing that she might just be able to keep up at least. She’d even plucked a loose strand from his tail, which she had held between two fingers. No, she wouldn’t draw her massive weapon on him. She was in the mood to play, not kill. It was something she wouldn’t have imagined enjoying in her youth, but now? She enjoyed this kind of thing, turning battle into a game when the opponent promised a fun time. Maybe it was part of the multiple alterations brought about when she was cursed, or perhaps age. Either way...the euphoria was already kicking in. Your move, Entei.

There was really no telling how the yōkai escaped Inuyasha’s blade that day, but it was clear enough that this was the same one, and that Entei remembered her from that time so long ago now. If she wanted to keep her own secrets from the horse, she’d have to go about this very carefully. For all intents and purposes, she was still human. Granted, it wouldn’t help much that she still looked exactly the same as she did at sixteen as she did now in at least her mid to late twenties.
“I have business nor quarrel with you; we can walk away from this without exchanging blows, or not. It’s entirely up to you,” the taijiya offered, noting the aggressive actions of the horse. Threatening, and yet he did not move further. While she wasn’t sure she was quite as fast as Entei now, there was only one way to test that, she knew she was at least at a yōkai’s speed now. She had currently invisible even without her glamor due to her hunter’s armor the markings to prove as much, that her abilities far surpassed what they were as a human… but did she intend to test her current limits on Entei…? That was yet to be seen.
Tumblr media
Entei was staring at the woman glaring as he finally stood still when she spoke about not wanting to fight against him. He knew the human female was powerful, but he could easily out run her still something about her seemed off. Something inside of him was itching to figure it out, maybe his human side wanting to know what was causing the irritation inside of his head. Shaking his head to let his mane get cleaned from the dirt and dust building up from his travels before he slowly started to circle the other. Like a shark circling, slowly and carefully instead of rushing in like mindless beasts would do.
The horse demon was more intelligent than others gave him credit for, but that was alright with him because when his enemies underestimated him just gave him more of the upper hand. The demon was a lot bigger than the woman in size as he was hoping it might intimidate her like he has most other demons. Crocking his head, he waited to see what her next move would be because his curiosity was peaked.

“Mhm…It’s me, Kagome-chan…or should I say Kagome-sama now? Look at you, how you’ve grown…” she trailed off, eyes gentle as she watched Kagome stand. At the question of where she’d been, she sighed softly.
“Marriage and childbearing…wasn’t for me, I decided not to go through with it. Kohaku needed me more, my place was with him. I wish it hadn’t required hurting Miroku-sama, but it couldn’t be helped. He understood, thankfully… how is he, Kagome? How is Inuyasha, and Kaede-sama? I’m sure Inuyasha is happy to have you back…” she wasn’t ready to explain what happened to her yet.

The taijiya witch went silent for a bit, pondering his words as she reached up to give him more ear scritches in a comforting manner this time. If the gods of his world were truly so merciful as he said, and they could...but would it really mean anything if she took this easy route? How could she possibly atone for the things she’s done? Other than bearing this heavy cross for the rest of eternity? Could Jase be even close to right about this? “...alright, if the attempt will put your mind at ease. I don’t feel like I deserve a way out of this, I feel like I’m cheating...”

“...you’re thinking of asking them to remove my curse, aren’t you?” Sango guessed, judging by how he was hesitating, and the way he held her. “...I tried myself, but...it won’t work, not without destroying the innocent souls that still inhabit my body,” she paused, placing a hand to her own chest, a mark on her neck glowing. “Besides...I feel like I deserve this, for my carelessness. I should have been more careful, I should have brought someone with me, I....” she blamed herself for the whole incident, for not being able to save the life of not even a single woman that had died that day. “....I feel like your higher powers would agree that it would be a fitting punishment, too. Don’t...don’t give up your hard earned chance at divinity just to save me, Jase...” she placed her free hand on Jase’s marked cheek. “I don’t deserve that...but, thank you, my love.”

Sango let out a relieved breath when Jase explained the situation (and internally beamed with pride at her beloved being deemed worthy of becoming one of the divine), even spreading her scritches out a bit so she could attend to both ears. “Well, it wouldn’t hurt to ask. Perhaps it’s just a matter of redoing the trial if not? I don’t think it would be entirely wise of me to accompany you, my immortality wasn’t exactly gained by divine means...” she mumbled, still deeply troubled even after ten or so years passed since the incident had occurred. She still dreaded the day that Kohaku, Miroku(because even if she turned down his proposal, he was still considered a friend) and Kagome would age and die. One of the other reasons she’d been searching so hard for the books, and more knowledge was in hopes of finding a way to extend their lives as far as the people in Kagome’s time could live. If she could find something close to modern medicine for them... of course, she had looked for Jase too, but knowing there was a chance at him becoming immortal too, he was off her list of worries for now.

“Oh...? How is this changing? Please tell me it wasn’t anything like mine, I still feel awful about it all...” Sango prodded, raising an eyebrow but still continuing to give Jase his ear scritches, especially when he nuzzled her like that. The smile immediately returned tho, when he mentioned how leaving her alone too long wouldn’t be advised. “Oh no, not at all. It still feels so weird to be alone...with my little brother taking over the family business and getting married, and my old friends settling down too...I’m the only one who still travels a lot, it feels weird to not have someone beside me...”

Sango let out a tiny ‘purr’ of her own when Jase kissed her neck, one hand drifting up and behind her to give the base of her companion’s ear a scritch. “Maybe you should come with me next time, it’d be nice to snuggle up to you when the nights get cold...” she suggested, sighing a little. “Good boy, I wouldn’t want to have to pester the western lord for a favor to bring you back to me. I’m powerful, but raising the dead is sadly outside of my capabilities... I still wonder how the great dog demon and the sword smith, Tōtōsai managed to create a sword capable of such a thing...” it was a question she’d been asking herself a long while now, how those two had been able to create the sword that now was in the possession of Lord Sesshomaru.
