Giulio just looked at her, standing in the doorway. He couldn’t allow her to leave him like this. His heart was hurting at just the thought of her exiting the doorway and his life like this.

“Please,” he begged softly, feeling extremely weak “don’t.”

He wished he could believe it. He wished that she was telling the truth. Since the summer, she had changed. Something had happened and although Giulio couldn’t quite place it, he knew the same feelings she used to have for him had gone.

“I- I... I don’t know, Belle.” he sighed, looking at his phone screen while she was on speaker. It was already 1 A.M. There had been long periods of silence between them during that call “I just don’t know. There’s something that’s changed and if you won’t tell me, I guess this is it...” A tear betrayed him as it fell on to his phone. He sniffed it away quickly but knew it would have given him away on the other end.

Giulio’s first kiss was when he was about 14. Her name was Mariella and it was very awkward at first (due to Giulio’s life in secrecy in the Palazzo de Medici).
