Have you ever just considered adopting a little girl? You'd be a good dad outside of... Erm... Well you wouldn't have to worry if it was a girl, Leonard.

"What?"

Often he wasn't one to express such blunt surprise, but the idea had taken Leonard aback. A moment of silence, a seemingly baffled expression of confusion on his face, and then a slow sigh. Leonard shook his head.

"...Surely not. No matter what, I could not even think to entrust another young life to the same hands that brought on the deaths of my brothers. I could not."

It had almost seemed a charming idea for a moment, to raise a life after the war in account for those that had been lost — as much as it pained him, he already doubted he could go on to raise young Seere himself — but that same doubt clouded his mind the more he considered it. Who could say whatever girl in question would really be safe? That wasn't even accounting for his pact-partner, who's likely cruelty towards whatever orphan-in-theory would surely be enough to send any child to tears. How could he ever prevent — or manage — all of that?

He didn't think he had the courage to find out.
