Alternately, I kind of love endings-that-aren't-endings. Shows that don't have cliffhangers that don't get resolved, no deaths or departures, no seismic changes or giant upheavals, but that leave it open for more seasons. I like the idea of characters I love just...carrying on as usual.

I love you shows with planned & definitive endings, I love you epilogues that prove the happy ending lasts, I love you finales that feature direct parallels to earlier seasons, I love you cast members that left years ago but came back to say goodbye, I love you well crafted & impactful final lines, I love you fitting send offs for the characters I love

Consider also that writers used to get a whole lot of episodes to tell their story instead of 12 20 minute episodes that they gotta cram all the plot into.

I don't know what those '90s sci Fi TV writers were putting in their shows but I wish they'd start doing it again

This is the whole thing with Bottle Episodes.

I imagine most people know about this concept, but just in case: A bottle episode is one that uses a limited number of regular sets and a restricted cast, sometimes only the principle actors for a series. There are reasons one might do this, but budget is a frequent one.

The lack of external features or significant budget for set pieces means that bottle episodes frequently need to be character focused or portray events in a budget friendly and occasionally abstract way.

This breeds invention and drives more meditative, character driven stories.

Cats (2019) is worse than Doctor Who (2006) even though the show was made with the budget of a crisp packet
