Tumblr media
While the ruffling of his hair was… a little much for Ritsu's taste, at least the woman was kind enough to offer them a solution to their problems. One of them, at least. He'd let her have that in exchange for the Jagariko she'd been holding onto. Like an exchange. Being raised alongside Shigeo, he wasn't raised without manners, and he wasn't one to bite the hand that fed, even if he find it mildly annoying. He hardly had time to offer up a surprised, “Oh, thank you-” before she had disappeared again. Considering how much she had in her cart, she likely could've spared a bit more than just that, but he'd take what he could get.
He dropped his gaze to the can he was holding onto, missing the gesture from Dimple until he felt a hand settle into his hair in much the same way. Unlike last time, he was far quicker to shake his head quickly to rid himself of the contact, raising his free hand to straighten out his hair. Its more precarious style meant it was more prone to stay messy after such an ambush. “I barely let her get away with that,” he bristled. Not that he would've done anything to her after her charitable gesture, but his less-than-willing companion for this trip wouldn't have the same good graces extended to him so easily.
Reaching into his pocket, he consulted the list again. It was, as far as snacks go, a fairly basic list. “They may have all of this at a konbini…” It seemed unlikely they'd be able to find a full package of each of these like Reigen was looking for, but with the cash they were given and the circumstances, surely they could be forgiven for that much. As much as he could care less whether that fraud of a businessman was happy with him, he didn't want to disappoint Shige, after all. “It's worth a shot, since things are cleared out here.” They had their Jagariko and some tea, and they'd have to make do with that from here. “I'm sure the line to check out is going to be long, too.” Best they head over there sooner rather than later.
Tumblr media
How fascinating that their errand on behalf of a particular fraud of a businessman turned into just hunting down for a treat for Shigeo, on Reigen's dime of course. They couldn't help it if most of the store shelves were wiped thanks to a huge sale, but Dimple already had an idea of how Reigen would try to chew them out over just buying a snack that he couldn't even eat – right up until Shige-chan would learn that it was bought with his master's money, then that dishonest, shameless man would take the glory of thoughtfulness. No, that honor remained mostly with Ritsu for thinking back to a fond memory he held with his older brother, and Dimple would claim up the moral support. After all, this shop was a bit like a battleground with the chaos they mostly managed to avoid.
Despite himself, the ghost's eyes visibly widened as some housewife or whoever was grabbing the coveted snacks by the armful to fill up her cart. Who needed that many, was she stocking up for the apocalypse? The eloquent middle schooler beside him expressed disappointment in a much more graceful manner than Dimple would have, who shoved his hands into his pockets and gave a, " Tch! " of discontent. So much for that idea indeed, they were back to square one. He had half a mind to drag Ritsu out of that store and go get themselves some yakisoba or grilled squid before calling it a day.
However, people weren't always so bad or selfish. They were capable of nuance, of learning, of observation, and that woman must've seen the crestfallen look on Ritsu's face. The kid was definitely the type to be popular among moms thanks to his good grades and good looks. Dimple raised an eyebrow as a single package was handed over – from a horde of plenty, mind you – and the woman walked away, but then gave a smirk.
Tumblr media
" Well, knew you'd come in handy for something, " he teased, mimicking the way the lady had ruffled Ritsu's hair by doing the same. He knew it would annoy the kid specifically because it was him doing it, but that was the fun of it. " All right, kiddo. Rest of the list? Tea, rice crackers – what else was it again? Should we call it and just visit a konbini to grab the items instead after that Jagarico's taken care of? "

Your First Fight - Akaashi, Kenma, Oikawa, Kageyama (Setter Squad)
A/N - This was for anon, I’m so sorry, I’m not sure what the heck happened to this post >-< but it’s back, and I fixed the links on the other posts as well!
Ace Edition
Word Count: 2.8k T-T
I may or may not have gotten carried away with this one  (✿◠‿◠) Buckle up, and I hope u enjoy!  ( ˘ ³˘)
Tumblr media
AKAASHI –
You understand why Akaashi wanted to keep your relationship secret. Really, you did. You could already imagine the barrage of overbearing comments, and the teasing that was sure to be a distraction during practice. With Nationals just around the corner, this was the last thing you both needed.
Being the manager of the Fukurodani Volleyball Club, you know better than most just how rowdy the group could actually be. Bokuto may be the loudest one of the bunch, but all the others can be just as provoking.
And to be honest, the sneaking around was kind of hot. You can’t deny you got butterflies every time Akaashi would pull you into the equipment room for a quick make out session, or when he would give your thigh a secret squeeze under the lunch table surrounded by your friends.
But it’s been months now, and frankly, you were kind of getting tired of it. Sure, it may be slightly more convenient for the both of you, but some days you just want to hold your boyfriend’s hand down the hall without having to look over your shoulder.
You’ve only brought it up to Akaashi once before, but he brushed it off by saying it wasn’t the right time, and you were discouraged to try ever since.
You really weren’t planning to bring it up at the Tokyo Representative Playoffs… you really didn’t. But Konoha’s girlfriend showed up to cheer him on, looking so happy and proud in the stands, you couldn’t fight the tinge of envy that started to take over your body.
Akaashi was observant, and he knew you better than anyone. He could see you stealing glances into the stands, could see the tension in your shoulders whenever Konoha’s girlfriend yelled out cheers for him.
He couldn’t stop himself from following you after you told Yukie you were just going to the restroom.
“No good luck kiss?” he called out once the both of you were a safe distance from the team.
“I’m sure you wouldn’t want anyone to see,” you said bitterly, not stopping for Akaashi.
Akaashi frowned. “Y/N, you know that’s not true.”
“Well, why else wouldn’t you want to tell anyone about us?” you asked, you finally stopped walking, turning around to give him a hard look.
Akaashi groaned in frustration. “Do we really have to talk about this right here? Right now? I told you, it’s just easier this way.”
You scoffed, and Akaashi hated the sound. “Sorry our relationship is such an inconvenience for you.” You didn’t give him a chance to reply, quickly entering the women’s bathroom, faintly hearing the sound of Bokuto calling your boyfriend’s name behind you.
Akaashi didn’t blame you for the loss against Itachiyama, but he definitely blamed himself.
“Have you seen Y/N?” he asked Bokuto after the game, but the ace just shrugged, too upset about the loss to really care. The whole team had all gathered their things, ready to make their way out of the gym and you still were nowhere to be found.
Akaashi’s worries were relieved, but quickly replaced with new ones when Bokuto spotted you down the hall, cornered by someone wearing a Nohebi uniform.
“So tell me, do you have you a boyfriend?” Akaashi heard him ask, and you finally noticed the team approach you. The evil gleam in your eye didn’t escape Akaashi’s attention.
“No, actually. I don’t.”
It was one thing for you to deny it to your teammates, but to other men? Akaashi shouldn’t be mad that those were the words that came out of your mouth; it was his own fault for putting you in the situation in the first place. He knows you’re just doing what he told you to.
But he was furious, and there was nothing that could have stopped him from grabbing you by the elbow, turning you away from the dirty little snake that dared to talk to you, and crashing his lips onto yours.
You weren’t sure what reaction you were expecting from Akaashi, but it definitely wasn’t this. Though, you weren’t complaining, returning his kiss with equal fervor, ignoring the uncomfortable cough from the Nohebi player, and the gasps and shocked exclamations from your teammates.
All you could focus on when he pulled away was Akaashi, blue eyes staring straight into your soul, the next words tumbling out of his mouth was all you’ve wanted to hear for months.
“You’re mine. I’m going to make sure everyone knows it.”
Tumblr media
KENMA –
You’ve been sitting in the same spot on Kenma’s bed for about an hour now. The room was filled with only the sounds emanating from the TV, and your boyfriend’s fingers tapping on the buttons of his controller.
Kenma always did like falling into a hole whenever he bought a new game; you’ve known this about him since you were kids. It wasn’t something you ever really minded, nor did you think it was something you wanted to change. It was a part of him that you simply accepted.
Normally, you were content with reading a book while he played, the two of you sitting in comfortable silence, getting lost in different worlds. You both respected each other’s hobbies, and the fact that you could do them together in the same room worked out so perfectly.
However, you finished your book faster than you anticipated, and in your shortsightedness, you failed to bring with you a second book. You tried to read webtoons online, but the light from your phone began to strain your eyes.
“Kenma,” you whined as boredom got the best of you, and the blonde boy didn’t bother to respond, “I’m hungry. Can’t we get something to eat?”
“After,” he grunted, though there were no specifications to when ‘After’ would be.
You sighed, getting up from your spot on the bed to tinker with his things. You walk around his room, running your fingers along the books lined on his shelf, picking up frames that contained happy memories of his life.
You hear your phone ding, signaling a message and you turned to make your way back to the bed.
“Hey!” Kenma exclaimed suddenly, making you jump, “Could you not walk in front of the TV? I just died because of you!”
You stared at him in shock for a second. You had never heard him raise his voice before “Excuse me? So what, it’s just a stupid game.”
“It’s not a stupid game,” Kenma grumbled, his voice back to his usual soft tone, but still held a slight tinge of anger. “You know I’ve been waiting for this to be released. Can’t you just read your book and be quiet like you usually do?”
Kenma immediately knew those were the wrong words to say, regretting the way you face turned into a pout. He watched you begin to gather your things, a slight panic rising in his chest when he realizes you’re trying to leave. “You know what, let me just leave you alone, since clearly my company isn’t wanted –“
You were cut off by Kenma getting up from his spot, opening the bottom drawer of his TV stand to rummage through it. You eyed him curiously until he finally found what he was looking for; pulling out another controller that he connected to the gaming console.
He quietly took your hand, pulling you down to sit on the floor with him. You sat cross legged and confused, wondering what he was doing until he handed you the controller. You stared at it in your lap, a small smile spreading on your face at his silent apology.
He started the game on easy mode, giving you a quick rundown on the basic controls.
“I’ll order us some pizza,” he said quietly, making you give him a soft peck on the cheek.
“Pizza sounds good.”
Tumblr media
OIKAWA –
The booming sound of Oikawa’s serves was something that will never cease to amaze you.
Sometimes, it was hard to reconcile your Oikawa Toru – the one that hides behind your hair during scary movies, and asks you to kill the spiders for him – with Aoba Johsai’s Oikawa Toru. To you, they were just two completely different people.
But when you were watching him practice like this, raw power coming from his usually gentle hands, you can’t help but stare at him in awe.
You don’t usually stay this late to watch him practice; on a normal day, your club activities would end at the same time and Oikawa would walk you home, but on days like today where he felt he needed the extra practice, you left him in the care of Iwaizumi.
You were a little surprised, however, when you found Iwaizumi waiting for you at your club room, claiming he really needed to get his part of his group project done by tonight, and if you could please stay and make sure your boyfriend doesn’t kill himself.
How could you say no?
At this point, you’ve lost track of how many times Oikawa practiced his serve, the repetitive sound of the balls bouncing and his grunting becoming a sort of hypnotic rhythm for you. Before you knew it, the sun had BEEN down, and the moon had taken its place in the night sky.
You begin to notice the telltale signs of exhaustion, Oikawa struggling to catch his breath, chest heaving up and down, his form beginning to look sloppy.
“Alright,” you say, jumping down from your spot on the bench, “It’s time to go home.”
“One more.”
“Tsk,” you clicked your tongue, walking around collecting the balls, “It’s been hours, Toru. Rest is also a part of training, you know.”
He ignored you, grabbing another ball from the cart, but you just started taking down the volleyball net.
“What the hell are you doing? I said one more!” “And I said it’s time to go home!”
The ear-splitting sound of the volleyball slamming the floor cut through the gym, leaving you frozen in place. “You wouldn’t understand! You may be satisfied with doing the bare minimum for your practices, but my serves have to be perfect! I have to be perfect!” Oikawa’s voice echoed, glaring at you with red eyes, frustration evident on his face.
You didn’t say anything. You stared at him for a moment, then turned around and began the process of closing the gym. Oikawa also chose to stay silent, brown eyes trained on the floor as he gathered his belongings, silently following you once you turned off the lights and locked the door.
The walk home was quiet; the lack of a reaction on your part weighing more heavily on Oikawa than he expected. He snuck a glance at you, but you kept your head forward, steel faced and neutral.
Each step he took was more agonizing than the last, knowing he shouldn’t have lashed out at you like that. Your house was beginning to come into view, and he couldn’t leave the night like this.
“I’m sorry,” he said softly, and your sharp inhale let him know that you heard him.
“I know.”
“I’m exhausted...” and you know he wasn’t just talking about volleyball.
You finally faced him, and gently grabbed his arm, wrapping it around your shoulders as you snaked an arm around his middle. He felt all the tension his body melt away, half expecting to find it puddled around his feet.
“I know,” you said, “But if you ever talk to me like that again, you’re getting a flying fist to the face.”
Oikawa laughed, drawing one out from your own mouth. He placed a kiss on your temple, and gave you full permission to cut his head off if he ever lashed out at you again. He always appreciated how he never had to tell you anything… you always just knew.

KAGEYAMA –
Kageyama had a pretty good weekend, if you asked him.
He woke up early on Saturday morning to go for a run, then got home and had pork curry for lunch. He figures it’s been a while since he’s brushed up on his basic skills, so he went to the local gym and practiced some drills. On Sunday, he was dragged by Hinata to a study group with Yachi, and admittedly gotten more homework done there than he would have on his own.
It was a nice, productive weekend. He entered his Monday with this positive vibe following him around, even morning practice went by smoothly.
He went about his usual routine of waiting for you by the school gates so he could walk you to class. He only waited about ten minutes until you came into view, and Kageyama subconsciously straightened his posture. He tried to push down the little tickle at the pit of his belly when you made eye contact, not wanting to admit he was excited to see you.
“Good morning,” he said as soon as you approached, but his entire mood completely shifted downward when you simply walked passed him.
Where was his usual ‘Good morning, Tobio-kun!’? Why didn’t you stop to give him his morning peck on the cheek? Why didn’t you let him carry your bag for you on the way to class?
Did he do something wrong?
He was so confused, questions running through his head as he simply trailed after you silently.
“Is everything alright?” He tried to ask once you reached your class, but you just gave him a stern look, turning away from him to enter your classroom and take your seat. He was left there looking like an idiot.
He couldn’t focus in class, trying to wrack his brain on why you could possibly be upset. Did he forget an anniversary? Doubtful, you’ve only just started dating. Were you on your period? Kageyama shook his head. Even he knew that would literally be the worst question to ask.
The bell rang to signal the start of lunch, and Kageyama hurriedly gathered his things so he can go find you.
He didn’t have to look very far, though, because when he exited his classroom, he spotted you down the hall.
The second you saw him, you marched your way over; the dark aura you were giving off had made everyone steer clear of you.
Kageyama gulped, wanting to run away before he remembered that he also wanted to talk to you.
“Y/N –“ “You know, I was going to ignore you the whole day, but seeing you this morning just really pissed me off, and unlike you, I actually can’t stand not talking to you.”
Kageyama blinked, happy to hear your voice, but confused at the words you were saying. “Unlike me? What do you mean?”
You crossed your arms and huffed. “Where the hell were you all weekend?”
Again, Kageyama blinked stupidly. “What do you mean? I was home.”
This seemed like the wrong answer, because now your hands moved to your hips, and for some reason, you were ten times more intimidating like that. “So? You never thought to shoot me a text? Or give me a call?”
“Was I supposed to?” Kageyama asked, and the genuine curiosity in his voice made you face palm.
“Did you not want to?” You asked, though there was no hurt behind the question.
“I did.” “So why didn’t you?”
Kageyama thought about it for a moment. “I went to the gym instead.”
You let out a groan of frustration. Honestly, you should have known. It took you three tries before Kageyama even realized you were confessing to him. It took him even longer to realize that he actually had to tell you he liked you back, and that you had no idea that him buying you yogurt meant he was asking you out.
“Tobio-kun,” you said patiently, “If you’re thinking of me, you should text me or call me to let me know.”
He tilted his head slightly. “Even if I have nothing interesting to say?”
You nodded, looping your arm through his and starting your walk to the cafeteria. “Even then. I just want to hear from you.”
Kageyama nodded his head in understanding. “Okay. That’s good to know.”
Your phone never stopped blowing up after that conversation. RIP your notifications.

Captain and Coach
Some time ago, @blueboltkatana requested this to be written: Hey uh, I'm embarrassed to be writing this cuz I feel like I'm telling you what to write, but I've had this prompt in my mind for so long. I was thinking how Daichi wasn't just captain for the crows he had to act like a coach as well for quite a while and so he is used to giving advice and helping his teammates but didn't have someone to do that for him and Ukai of course notices and tells him he can leave the team to him now it's ok, and Daichi breaks down because he didn't even realize how much that responsibility weighed on him all this time. I mean Dadchi deserves a dad sometimes too! If u don't like if u don't have to write it it's ok I don't want to seem like I'm telling u what to do!!
Now it's written 😉 On AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/32628205Or, read below ----
When Ukai Keishin became Karasuno high school’s coach, he thought he would be expecting a chaotic team that doesn’t know how to behave with a coach in the room. Turns out, he was wrong.
Sure, the kids could be rowdy as hell and would screw around but they had drive. They put in the effort. They expected a result and in order to get that result they put in as much work they could as possible.
One thing Ukai regrets, though, is the amount of time it took him to realize why the kids are always so much of a team without his interference.
The realization comes after his first Interhigh with the team. The clue came when he was watching his team return to the sidelines after losing, getting ready to line up and thank Aoba Johsai for the game. In his head, Ukai was planning to say words of comfort and a good job. Calm them down a bet, maybe offer a few hugs.
He had to do exactly none of that.
Sawamura already had an arm around Nishinoya, his free arm raised so he could rub Tanaka’s head. He moved around so quickly from one player to the other, patting the heads of the first-years, hugging the second and third years, pulling Yachi and Shimizu into a small group hug. It’d be only a week later when Ukai would realize that even though Sawamura had dealt out comfort and kind words he hadn’t gotten any in return.
It’s not long until exam day comes. Practice continues but only every other day in the afternoon. Ukai decided to test a little theory out.
During practice after his little revelation, he gave a few commands for drills but left the rest to Sawamura. By some stroke of luck, Takeda wasn’t here to ask Ukai what he’s doing and why he’s staring at Sawamura so intently. Just like Ukai expected Sawamura easily steps into a position of command and support, telling his teammates what to do, suggestions of improvements, and words of motivation that make even Tsukishima move a bit faster.
Sawamura is always moving around. Most people don’t notice this with Hinata and Nishinoya constantly running around but even they stop. Not Sawamura. Always looking around to see if his teammates are good, briefly checking if shoelaces are tied, tracking movement, provided perfectly timed words. At times Ukai wonders if there’s something otherworldly inside of Sawamura. No, he’s just a kid who cares a lot more than most.
“Sawamura-kun!” Ukai calls at the end of practice. “Can you stay behind for a few minutes? I want to talk to you about something.”
“Okay,” Sawamura replies, a smile of agreement on his face with no hint of the annoyance or slight fear of having done something wrong that would have been on Ukai’s own face if his grandpa had asked the same of him back when he was still in school. Maybe there was once a time Ukai would have thought of Sawamura as too trusting of a kid with his response but now he knows better. In his own way that doesn’t have to do with education Sawamura is the smartest kid he knows.
Twenty minutes later the volleyballs are back in their cart and hidden in the storage room. The net has been taken down and it’s too quiet. Ukai and Sawamura are the only two left now, the boy’s jacket zipped all the way out with his hands stuffed in his pockets.
“You wanted to talk to me, coach?”
This already feels weird. He’s used to having to pull Tsukishima or Tanaka aside, sometimes Asahi to remind him to be confident, and all three of them have Ukai tilting his head up just a bit. He has to move his gaze below eye level to make eye contact with Sawamura.
“Don’t think you’re in trouble, kid.” He knows that Sawamura doesn’t think that. “I just wanted to give you a tip like you give your friends.” Sawamura’s eyes widen with interest. Ukai clears his throat. He hopes this doesn’t come out awkward. “You’re an amazing captain, the best I’ve ever seen. And even though you’re captain it doesn’t mean you have to pick up everyone’s slack and carry all the responsibility.” That sounds too much like an attack, gods help him.
“What I mean,” he tries again, running a hand through his hair while closing his eyes “is that I’m here to help, kid. I’m not going to steal your spot or anything. Just...you work so hard and I don’t want you stressing too much. So it’s fine if you want to take a step back every once in a while, sit on the side and just take a few sips of water or something. And if-” his rambling is cut off by a wet sniffle and a shaky breath.
Oh hell no.
Suddenly he’s panicking. He never expected this, never in a million years.
“Hey, are you okay?” Sawamura’s head is bowed, a steady hand out of his pocket which struggles to stay steady as it wipes at tears. Ukai quickly moves closer, placing his hands on the boy’s shoulders. “Hey hey, shh, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean anything bad by that.”
“N-no, I’m fine.” The kid contradicts himself by sniffling again. His voice is wet and forced, too small. Ukai already knows that after this he’s going to open a new pack of sigs with how bad he feels. He made Sawamura cry. “It’s just that, just...thank you.”
Ukai freezes.
“I...no one’s ever tried to take some of the responsible,” Sawamura explains. His voice sounds so small, shoulders hunched forward and arms wrapped around himself like a hug. “I don’t want to complain. I don’t want to sound too lazy.”
“Kid, have you ever cried before now?” Ukai can’t help but say. Sawamura’s laugh is humorless and cuts into Ukai. The sniffles are louder and little sobs can’t be muffled anymore. Sawamura shakes his head. A burden, by definition, is something heavy. Generally too heavy to carry on one’s own. And here’s Sawamura not just carrying his own but those of others, making sure that the rest of his team doesn’t feel the pain and hurt and disappointment that can come at any moment.
Gently, Ukai unfolds Sawamura’s arms so that he can properly hug the kid, bringing him close with a hand wrapped around his back and the other on the back of his head, lightly rubbing circles along his spine. Sawamura’s hands, so small, grip the front of Ukai’s shirt, tears quickly soaking into his shoulder.
“You’re a wonderful captain,” Keishin says, choosing to do for Daichi what he does for his team. He’s going to make sure the kid hears these words, understands, and accepts that they’re facts. “You are an amazing defensive and offensive player. You’re willing to dive for the ball at any moment, to try new plays without the fear of failure. Or even if you do have that fear you don’t let it control you. From what I’ve heard from sensei you’re also a really good student.”
He doesn’t know how much time has passed. His throat is starting to feel a bit sore and his eyes had prickled with heat at some time but the words of positivity and support never stopped flowing.
“Thank you,” Daichi mutters at long last sounding utterly exhausted. Keishin ruffles his hair and pulls him back in for a tighter hug.
The next day, Daichi is one of the last people to arrive at practice, his walk leisurely. The hoops are still down from the basketball team’s morning practice. The gym isn’t chaotic at the moment, with most of the players talking to each other or bumping a ball to each other.
Keishin watches as Daichi ignores Sugawara’s greeting. This pikes his interest. He leans forward on the bench and watches as Daichi heads to the ball cart, grabs a volleyball, and walks to where the basketball court’s half-court line is. The boy draws his arm back and launches the ball at the hoop on the other side of the gym. By some miracle, it falls through the hoop.
The gym is silent.
Hinata, Kageyama, and Nishinoya openly gape.
Tsukishima and Ennoshita look like they’re about to go into shock.
Without looking away from the hoop, Daichi points at Tanaka, who is standing by the cart.
“Give me another,” he says, finally looking over his shoulder with an expression of childish glee on his face. Nishinoya beats Daichi to getting a ball and completely fails at getting the ball even close to the hoop. The rest of the team may be confused but Keishin is happy.
This is one of Daichi’s visibly happiest moments. How can he not be happy about that?

Start With Tomorrow- Tobio Kageyama
Tumblr media
Note: This is my first ever post on this blog! Hope people can enjoy! Warnings: None
---
The air was filled with heavy breathing and the sound of Hinata’s feet pounding against the polished gym floors, spiking the ball Kageyama had just set for him. It slammed against the wall next to the door with a noise like thunder cracking.
“Again!” Kageyama called, and immediately, Hinata was running again.
They’d been at it since practice had ended hours ago, Ukai leaving them to it with a reminder to please, for the love of god, lock the doors when they left. He’d said something else, too, but by that point neither of them had been paying any attention, already totally focused on their self-practice.
“Again!”
“Hold on, Kageyama,” Hinata finally requested, bending over and putting his hands on his knees.
“You can rest later, we need to practice now. We have a match against Nekoma in two days, and we’ll never beat them as we are now.”
“I know,” Hinata groaned, “but breaks are important.”
“There’s nothing more important than volleyball!”
“Yeah,” a voice at the door made Kageyama tense, “I can see that.”
“Y/N!” Hinata straightened, a grin on his face as he spotted you, standing at the door in a dress, with a takeout bag in your hand. “It’s late, what’re you doing here?”
As Kageyama’s girlfriend, you were a common sight in the Karasuno Gym, but you were never there as late as it was now.
“I dunno,” you replied, keeping your eyes on your boyfriend, who clutched the volleyball in his hands like a lifeline, his eyes reflecting his sudden horror. “Why am I here, Tobio?”
He didn’t answer, and Hinata didn’t pick up on the tense atmosphere that suddenly filled the gym. He continued to chatter away, coming up to your side like an excited puppy. “You can stick around for the rest of our solo-practice! If you sit on the bleachers, you won’t ruin your pretty dress! Hey, why are you all dressed up, anyway?”
You couldn’t help but smile at Hinata, despite the hurt and anger that boiled inside of you. It wasn’t actually his fault that Kageyama had forgotten you, and his excitable energy was always infectious. It was one of the reasons you liked him so much.
“Well, Hinata, I had a date.” Your eyes slid back to your boyfriend, who began anxiously spinning the volleyball in his hands, before tossing it into the volleyball cart. Under your scrutiny, he picked up the balls scattered around the court.
Clearly, practice was over.
Hinata let out an amused snort, still grinning. “Yeah, a date, right. How were you on a date if-” the grin started to slip off his face as realization struck him. “-Kageyama was here.”
Ukai’s parting words suddenly came back to him, “Don’t forget about your date, Kageyama.”
And what did they do? They’d forgotten about the date.
“Aw, man.” Hinata glanced between you and Kageyama, suddenly fearful for his friend. “I’m gonna...I’m gonna stay here and clean the gym. You go ahead and head out, Kageyama.”
“Thanks,” Kageyama said, reaching down to grab his gym bag. He still couldn’t look at you as he joined you at the door, couldn’t say anything as you both left, side by side. He knew to let you silently think about how to put your feelings into words. As he watched you think, he saw the exact moment you decided not to be angry, settling instead on tired disappointment.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, you said, “So there’s nothing more important than volleyball, huh?”
Immediately, Kageyama was rushing to defend himself, “I didn’t mean it like that. You know I didn’t.”
You nodded as you both turned onto his street. “I do know that. But, you promised it was going to be different here. It’s not.”
Kageyama winced. Back before he’d started at Karasuno, when your relationship was shiny and new, he’d been a completely different person. He remembered the neglect he’d put you through because of volleyball, all the arguments that had ensued. He remembered how you’d slammed your hands onto his desk, a week before middle school graduation, and demanded to know if he even liked you, or if he’d only asked you out because he was popular, and so were you. That fight had been particularly harsh, but it had ended with him realizing that you were the best thing in his life.
He’d made a promise to you, and himself, that he’d never make you feel like that again- like you were less than. He realized now that he’d broken that promise.
“I’m sorry,” he said, opening the door to his house, allowing you inside before following you in. After putting on happy faces for his family and settled into his bedroom, he continued, “I got caught up. I know it's not an excuse, but it’s all I have. I also know I already had my second chance, and I don’t deserve another.”
“Probably not,” you chuckled, opening the takeout bag and setting a box with chopsticks in front of him. He popped open the container to find his favorite meal.
Even when you were mad at him, you still thought of him. He looked up at you with furrowed brows.
“I don’t deserve you, Y/N. I could spend the rest of my life trying, and I’d still never end up deserving you. But I’d like to try, even if it does end up taking the rest of my life. If you’d let me.”
“I don’t know about forever, Tobio,” you admitted. “But let’s start with tomorrow, and take it from there.”
“I can agree with that.”
And when you smiled at him and reached over to steal a bite of his dinner, Kageyama knew that the two of you were okay.

Haikyuu But They Don’t Play Volleyball (Pretty Setter Squad)
Notes: I am once again telling you that I know nothing about sports.
*Read that Captain version here! (oikawa was included in the captain thread)*
Sugawara Koushi: Diving
He’s beauty. He’s grace. How could he not be a diver?
I’m sorry but just imagine him coming up from a dive, his hair clinging to his forehead, just smiling that pretty smile of his as he swims back to the edge of the pool?
Catch me simping.
TEAMMOMTEAMMOMTEAMMOM!
Sugawara is brings a whole ass cooler of snacks and drinks to every meet for all of his teammates.
Probably leads in stretches?  His positive energy gets everyone super hyped for the competition.  I promise you’ve never heard anyone count to ten with more enthusiasm.
He’s there on the sidelines to watch every single dive during the meet, shouting words of encouragement as they approach the platform, and then cheering loudly after the completed dive.
But, also?  C H A O T I C at practices.  Like he knows when it’s time to actually practice, but if something has the team down?  He’ll do some stupid move, shouting some TikTok reference on his way down.
Sugawara is really good at twisting dives? Like?? Really good at them.
If you come to his meets to watch him?  Precious bean smiles so much, likely giving you a thumbs up and a toothy grin before he steps up to the edge of the springboard.
You’ll try to give him a hug once he’s out of the water, but he’ll likely just laugh and object, saying that he’ll get your clothes all wet.
But, he will sit down in his chair and let you dry his hair with his towel.  Watch him melt into your touch once you're done and just running your fingers through his silver strands, getting any tangles out.
He always offers you his jacket, because he’s an absolute gentleman.  But, he inevitably ends up getting cold, and will cuddle you in his lap to steal your body heat, putting his towel down over his legs so you don’t get your pants all wet.
Kageyama Tobio: Basketball
He plays point guard, because much like the setter in volleyball, the point guard controls the team’s offense.  It’s the most specialized position, again, just like the setter.
Three point K I N G!
Drains them left and right with expert precision.
He plays so rough oml and it’s not even on purpose!  Someone could guard him too much and he’s pissed even though that’s literally the point of basketball??? Catch him throwing so many elbows.
Kageyama practices dribbling non-stop.  If he’s not in during practice, he’s on the side lines doing ball-handling drills.
He could be the best ball-handler on the team and he’s still working to improve himself and learn from some of the point guards from the opposing teams.
He will have no idea that you’re even at his games, because he’s so in the zone, but if you come up to him afterwards as he walks out of the locker room?
Insert soft Tobio smile here ;-;
He’ll ask you if you enjoyed the game, probably talking about how one of the other players had a really clean jump shot, asking you to rebound for him so he can try that.
Please tell him no.  He’s on an adrenaline high and needs to go get some rest.
Kageyama will probably con you into it, no matter how much you object. He’d be shooting baskets, asking for your input every now and then as if you have any idea what you’re meant to be looking for.
You definitely walked up to him after a game in a t-shirt that had his name on it and this boy just got so flustered, because he will never be over the fact that you, of all people, wanted to date him.
But, he would tell you that you looked nice, just like he always does.  Kageyama would never outright say it, but the fact that you get all dressed up for his games makes his heart do backflips 🥺
Kozume Kenma: Track
Right? Crazy, I know, but hear me out.  He does high jump or maybe pole vault.  Something that doesn’t require too much physical exertion.
Sitting outside in the sun at track meets for hours on end is by no means his favorite thing to do, but he’s one of the first events, so if the meet is at Nekoma, he can just dip for a little while and go play his games at a cafe that has air conditioning or something.  Don’t tell his coach though because they’re technically not meant to leave??
During practices, you will likely find him lying on the mats, playing a game on his phone, not even caring if his coach comes over.  The others are doing the same thing, so why does it matter?
He can get really meticulous though, especially right before postseason.  He’d get in this trance where he’s constantly working on his approaches, making sure they feel just right before he even thinks about jumping.
Kenma hates when you come watch him.  It throws him off, so if you do plan on coming to a meet, please don’t say anything ;-;
Honestly, he probably wouldn’t even tell you when he has meets, just so he doesn’t run the risk of you watching him.
Assuming you do find out his schedule, it’s probably best if you come after his events?  It would put him more at ease knowing that there wasn’t even the slightest possibility that you had watched him.
He’ll sit on the bleachers with you though, munching on some snacks that you brought, making quiet conversation while he plays his games.
Kenma will always tell you that he doesn’t care if you come or not, but deep down, he enjoys the time he gets to spend with you while he’s waiting for results he absolutely will make sure that you leave if he makes it to the final round though
Akaashi Keiji: Golf
GOLF BRAT this is a joke don’t kill me pls
I’m talking like he grew up playing golf with his dad, but because he’s played so long, he’s super good.
He shoots in the high-30s on nine holes and probably gets really annoyed with himself if he gets in the mid-40s
You’ll see him on the driving range right after the match, practicing until he’s content if he ever does worse than he expected.
He only uses Callaway golf balls and probably has a really unique ball mark.
His golf clubs?  Custom fit.  He’s not a snob, I swear.  He just takes it really seriously, because Akaashi knows that he’s good and could get some really incredible scholarships.  He wants to be able to perform to the best of his ability and if that means spending a lot on a nice set of golf clubs that will last him for a long time, then he’ll do it.
Akaashi carries his clubs.  He doesn’t understand the need for those push carts?  Sure the clubs are kind of heavy, but it’s not that bad.
Definitely refused to wear a glove for a long time, but eventually the blisters and calluses got so bad that he had to cave.
Putting KING.  Can and will sink a 15’ putt without batting an eyelash.  He doesn’t have a lot of power in his drives, but his short game is impeccable.
He’s always really flattered when you show up to his matches.  They’re boring to watch, and he knows that, especially if you don’t play golf or have any interest in the sport.
But, the fact that you’re willing to walk with him around the course, asking him questions about the rules of the game, or even just helping him find his ball?  It brings that gentle Akaashi smile to his face.
Akaashi in a polo akaashi in a polo akaashi in a motherfucking polo
Some weekends he’ll take you out to the course with him, let you borrow a set of his old clubs if you don’t have a set of your own, and you two will play a round of golf together
You give up after hitting the ball in the lake four times in row and just settle for driving the golf cart and providing him with emotional support.
Atsumu Miya: Tennis
Just imagine that wide ass smile of his when he scores a point
Wait i’m already soft i-
Anyway.  The intention was to get Osamu to play too and they would be this really incredible duo for doubles
But Osamu physically could not put up with Atsumu’s shit.  Like, in volleyball there are other people on the court to interact with, but in doubles tennis? It’s just atsumu
Osamu literally lasted one practice.
But, we’re not here to talk about him.
Atsumu doesn’t have a lot of power, so he has to come up with other ways to score.  He mainly relies on well-aimed receives or drop shots
He hates the uniforms and he looks terrible in them.  I’m so sorry Atsumu stans, but it’s just a fact.  Those really light, almost white, khakis and the maroon polo?  Boy looks so dumb and he knows it.  Add the dumbass headband his coach makes him wear to keep his hair from his eyes?  Fashion crises.
It’s for this reason that he really doesn’t want you at his matches.  Because he knows that you’re going to take stupid pictures of him and use them as blackmail.  You come anyway and yes.  You take a million pictures of your boyfriend looking like a hot mess in his uniform.
If he catches you taking pictures in between sets?  He’s going to steal your phone the minute he’s done so he can delete them all
“153 pictures?! What the hell, Princess. . .”
“Sorry, ‘mu.  You just look so dumb in your uniform.”
He likes to drag you out to the courts on weekends to play doubles with friends or he’ll ask you to play singles with him. He always says that he’ll go easy on you, but three volleys in and he’s slipped into the zone and he’s playing for real.
Atsumu has absolutely smacked your ass with his racket and feigned innocence when you whirl around to stare at him in shock.  He probably starts lecturing the nearest person on how they should treat someone like that, especially his princess.
Smack his arm and shut him up, please.
I promise he looks a lot better when the two of you go play than when he actually has a match.  Some nice athletic shorts and a black t-shirt or hoodie, maybe a baseball cap to keep his hair out of his face?  Yeah.  He looks hella cute.

Glasses
This is an old wip i finally decided to finish! All thanks to @ainu’s inktober challenge!! Go check her kagehina art for this month ;D 10/10 would recomend.
********                          ********
The ball follows a straight path over the net and between the blockers’ hands. It seems to be an instant point for Azumane’s team, but Hinata appears as if from nowhere, ready to receive the ball.
His reflexes have grown better since his duty as a ball boy at the training camp, but his posture still sucks. On cue, the ball hits his wrists and bounces in the opposite direction, directly into his face.
Hinata stumbles back with the force of the impact, falling down with a loud smack when his feet don’t move fast enough to support him. In seconds, everyone is surrounding him and a very scared Azumane repeats innumerable ‘I’m sorry’s’ as he checks Hinata for any bruises. Kageyama stays put, this isn’t any different from the previous times Hinata has hit his face, so he doesn’t worry like Yachi who brings the first aid kit, or Sawamura who kneels by his side with a concerned face.
Rolling his eyes, he shouts “Come on, Hinata!” Wanting to continue with the game as soon as possible.
To his surprise, Hinata doesn’t reply back, or even try to stand, and upon further inspection he realizes Hinata is tearing up, something completely not normal for the boy. He attempts to move but freezes at Sugawara’s words.
“Hinata, are you wearing contacts?” He asks, placing a hand on his shoulder. “Are you okay?”
Hinata simply nods and tries to adjust the lense in his right eye, the tip of his tongue poking out while tiny tears fall down his cheek.
Sawamura stands, clapping his hands and suggesting they take a small break in the meantime. Coach Ukai follows suit, telling everyone to give Hinata some space.
“I’m fine coach!” Hinata shouts, getting back on his feet as Ukai-san tells him to stay on the bench for a while.
Kageyama shakes his head, turning his back to them and going for his water bottle. This new information is… interesting… and for some reason he can’t stop wondering if Hinata owns a pair of glasses like Tsukishima.
He would look way better than him though, especially when he smiled-
Kageyama chokes when that thought crosses his mind, and feels his cheeks growing hot. It’s not a novelty for him that he likes Hinata, but he would rather die than let the boy know about his crush.
“Kageyama!” He hears Hinata call.
Kageyama turns, and Hinata is almost behind him, bouncing on his feet as if he wasn’t knocked over by a ball minutes before.
“Let’s do the-”
“I didn’t know you wore glasses,” Kageyama interrupts him, putting the bottle aside. He isn’t sure why he brought the topic up now.
“I wear contacts, not glasses.” Hinata pouts, frowning at the floor. “I didn’t think you would mind.”
“I don’t mind.” Kageyama is quick to answer. It’s completely the opposite, though Hinata doesn’t need to know.
“Then it’s not a big deal.”
Kageyama takes the ball from Hinata, muttering, “of course not,” at him.
Yeah, it’s not a big deal. The only problem is that he can’t stop thinking about it. Every time Hinata appears in his line of sight for the next few days Kageyama hates the way his face feels warmer, imagining how he would look with a pair of glasses.
By the next week he manages to distract himself with other things, like volleyball or that good curry rice his mom made, so it’s not too terrible.
That is, until Hinata comes into the gym wearing real glasses one morning practice. Kageyama’s mind goes blank while watching the senpai surround Hinata, thin, round brown glasses over his eyes, blushing at the compliments he’s receiving.
Kageyama can’t think of a word that describes how he feels looking at Hinata right now. His heart beats faster and faster by the second, and once again his cheeks grow hot. Damn Hinata and his pretty… whatever.
“Shit,” he mumbles, mad at himself.
“Eek!” Hinata yelps, raising his hands. “Okay, okay. You don’t have to be so mean, geez.”
Kageyama didn’t realize Hinata was in front of him, giving him a full view of his dumb glasses.
“What?” Kageyama says, or probably growls, judging by Hinata’s defensive reaction to his question.
“Nothing. I didn’t know you don’t like glasses, that’s all. That’s why you don’t like Tsukishima?” Hinata snorts, hiding his smile with one of his hands.
“Don’t be a dumbass. They’re fine,” he huffs. “Why did you come with them anyway? You told me you used contacts.”
“Oh,” Hinata looks sheepishly at the floor. “Yesterday I forgot to take them out and this morning my eyes hurt.”
Kageyama stares at Hinata, who pushes his glasses up. Ugh, he hates him.
“What? Do I look dumb?” He asks.
“No…”
“Then stop staring.” Does he know what he’s doing to Kageyama’s heart?
“I’m not, idiot.” Kageyama turns and heads toward the ball cart. “Try to not drop dead if your glasses break though.”
“I won’t!”
Kageyama barely sees Hinata as he comes running and steals the ball Kageyama took from the cart. Kageyama chases after him, and as Ukai-san tells them to stop, practice continues normally.
Or as normal as it would be if it weren’t for Kageyama constantly getting distracted. His feelings stand in the way and make him especially aware of everything Hinata does, which isn’t completely out of the ordinary, but this time it’s affecting his game performance.
Tsukishima is the first to comment on how much he sucked after practice ends. Frowning, Kageyama ignores him and storms out of the clubroom. He knows pretty damn well what his problem is, and he doesn’t know how to fix it.
He has tried to get rid of his feelings for Hinata, but seeing him everyday makes it an impossible task. Besides, he doesn’t want to stop seeing Hinata only because he likes him. Hinata has been one of the few people he can call his friend, even if volleyball seems to be the only thing tying them together. That’s fine though, because as long as he can play with him he’s happy.
With that said, it sucks to be in a slump only because his body can’t seem to focus on anything else lately. And he knows it’s all because of some stupid glasses that make Hinata look even prettier than before. Fuck.
Sipping his milk box angrily, Kageyama stares vacantly toward the front of the classroom.
Volleyball has always been some kind of prize after school, the countless information given to him every day can’t be compared to the feeling of a good practice session, or a successful quick where Hinata doesn’t close his eyes, but now he almost dreads the time passing so quickly. It’s alright though, he just needs to get used to it. He already got used to Hinata in general when he realized what he felt for his partner, so a dumb accessory can’t make it any harder, right?
At afternoon practice he kind of feels guilty for the relief that washes over him as he sees Hinata coming into the club room.
“What happened to your glasses, Hinata?” Sugawara-san asks, voicing what everyone wants to know.
“O-oh…” Hinata drops his bag beside Kageyama’s and starts changing. “I’m not used to them, so I don’t want them to break or something while we play.”
“Are you sure you don’t need them?” Suga pushes, arms crossed over his chest as he arches an eyebrow. “I mean, there’s a reason you need glasses.”
“I’ll be fine,” Hinata shrugs it off, finishing putting his shirt on. “I’m not blind. I can see perfectly fine,” he smiles, as if trying to convince not only Suga but also Sawamura by his side.
Sawamura sighs, and tells the team to head to the gym already.
The way Hinata puffs out air makes Kageyama think there’s something off, but if he says he’s fine, who is he to push him to wear his glasses? Not that he wouldn’t… but they’re too distracting!
After warm ups, Ukai-san instructs them to start practicing spikes. The team forms two lines in front of Sugawara and Kageyama as Nishinoya stands on the other side to receive the balls.
The first few minutes go well, but Kageyama can’t stop watching the way Hinata squints and how he hesitates, especially when spiking Sugawara-san’s tosses. Nobody else seems to realize though, so he brushes it off.
Later, as they practice serves, it’s more obvious something is wrong with Hinata. Kageyama knows his serves are horrible, but he misses the first few completely, and the others are off. Nishinoya catches all of them, laughing at him that they’re too easy to save.
Coach calls him then, and Kageyama lets it slide because maybe that’s what he needs to fix his game sense.
It’s when they’re having a 6 vs 6 match that Kageyama snaps, and not without reason.
“What the fuck is wrong with you?!” He shouts, the back of his head throbbing because of Hinata’s serve as he tries to pull Hinata up by his shirt.
“Nothing!” Hinata shouts back, dodging him and equally as mad for some reason. “Today is just not my day!”
“Hinata! Kageyama!” Ukai-san calls, and they go still at the harshness of his voice. “Stop, you two. Hinata, come here. Now. The rest, continue playing.”
He doesn’t leave space for arguments, and with one person less on Sawamura’s team, they play.
Kageyama notices Coach and Takeda-sensei talking seriously with Hinata, who soon after leaves the gym. Kageyama barely has time to react to Tanaka’s spike because of it, so he pushes the thought out of his mind, preferring to focus on the match at hand.
When they finish, Sawamura’s team defeated by Sugawara’s, Hinata still hasn’t returned, which pisses Kageyama off. Why did he have to leave in the first place?
Ukai-san gives them a 10 minute break, and Kageyama doesn’t hesitate to go looking for the idiot who make them lose. He walks with his hands balled into fists, going to the club room first, and repeating in his mind what he’s going to tell Hinata.
He sees the dumbass heading into the club room, and he rushes to catch him.
“Hinata! What the hell!” He yells from the door. Hinata immediately flinches and turns, hiding something behind his back. “Why are you here?!”
“Well, I could ask you the same thing!” He shouts, defensively, but his eyes dart between Kageyama and somewhere else.
“I came looking for you. We already finished the match,” Kageyama says, mad and getting closer, deciding to drag him back if necessary. “Let’s go.”
Hinata looks down, not attempting to move.
Kageyama glares at him, but before he gets the chance to take his arm Hinata speaks.
“What do you think of my glasses?” It’s such an unrelated question that it catches Kageyama off guard.
“Uh?”
Hinata shows him his hands, holding a glasses case, and keeps his gaze down. He repeats the question.
Kageyama looks at the case and then at Hinata again. He looks embarrassed, and his cheeks turn a light pink.
“What does that have to do with anything? They’re fine. I already told you that.” He doesn’t know why he brought his glasses into this, so, slightly confused, he sees Hinata put the case in his gym bag.
“Well, this morning you wouldn’t stop looking at me with this…” Hinata moves his hands over his face, frowning and pouting, “Weird face, and you didn’t toss at me as much as usual.”
“Wait, are you telling me you didn’t want to use your glasses because you thought I think they’re ugly or something?” Kageyama frowns in concern, this doesn’t make any sense.
“Uuuh, probably…” Hinata scratches the back of his head, but quickly shakes it and looks at him. “But let’s go back now! I know it was stupid, but you frowned at me during lunch too so I thought maybe… doesn’t matter. How was the match?” He changes the topic and walks toward the door.
Kageyama takes his arm and holds him in place. “We lost.” He tightens his grip and continues. “Hinata, if you need your glasses, use them, stupid. Why would what I think matter if you can’t play without them?”
Hinata’s eyes grow big and he gapes like a fish out of water, laughing nervously. He seems to want to say something but nothing comes out of his mouth.
Kageyama sighs and pulls him closer to his gym bag, then fishes for the glasses case.
“What are you doing?” Hinata asks when Kageyama takes the case and releases his arm so he can open it.
“It’s okay, you moron,” Kageyama says.
He looks at Hinata for a moment before taking the glasses and slowly putting them over Hinata’s eyes.
“If you need glasses, or contacts, or whatever, to play, I don’t think anyone’s opinions matter.”
Then, he puts the case back in Hinata’s bag. He stares at Hinata again, a little embarrassed by what he just said and did. He means it, but the way Hinata is looking at him makes him feel more nervous than before playing against Oikawa-san.
Hinata smiles. He smiles wider than Kageyama has ever seen him smile, and if he felt his face warming before, now he’s probably red down to his neck.
“And besides…” Kageyama continues, not sure if this is the right moment. “You look… good with them.” Yes, he looks beautiful even, but he can’t say that. Not yet.
With what little pride he has left, Kageyama walks away. Break must be over soon, and he needs a rest from this.
Hinata trails behind him until he passes him and starts walking backwards ahead of him. He’s saying something about how it seems he’s really important for the team to win if they lost after he left, and usually Kageyama would shut him up, but now… he lets him get away with it.
The way he’s smiling, smiling at him, is worth it.
