──her morning had been chaotic; she overslept and she never does. her phone was blowing up because she was running late to a meeting and she struggled to put herself together; just a little makeup, brushing her hair and pulling it into a messy bun, threw on a pair of jeans and a plain pastel pink sweatshirt, literally running after Hunter before he could leave the house to get a lift downtown or else she would be even more late waiting for an Uber ( she refused to drive, even after all this time, she struggles so much with it ). but she forgot where the appointment was supposedly to take place and she had to check her messages, only to find she had gotten the location wrong and the meeting was not supposed to be for the club, but a collaboration she would advertise on her platforms. she could definitely not show up like this for that, so after getting dropped of at the coffee place she frequent, she called to say she was sorry, they would have to reschedule.
she went inside and ordered herself her usual, got a donut too ( she would call it self-care ). but when she goes to pay she finds she has forgotten her wallet and the waitress informs her they had trouble at the moment accepting online payments. Honey looked at the man closer to her and excused herself from the checkout for a moment. “hey,” she greeted with a warm smile. “I am terribly sorry but can you please pay for my order and I can cashapp you?” apple pay, whatever, she hope he used anything other than damn cash and credit cards. “I forgot my wallet…and they can’t get online payment…” she elaborated a second later, whilst he’d think her to be a fraud. ───the words were certainly not what Honey was hoping to hear. this was one of the few times she was feeling embarrassed, even though it was technically not her fault if she’d take a moment to step back and think about it. “shit…” she breathed, biting into her donut, more out of nervousness now than being hungry. which then made her realize she couldn’t even return the damn thing now. she laughed at the following words, meeting the other’s gaze with a smile. “unlikely…” she mused, trying to rake her brain for a solution. she could call Alice and ask if she could drop by to give her some cash, but Hunter would absolutely kill her if she made him turn around for this. maybe she could try another friend, like Keziah or Elijah, but she was ashamed to call and ask for money, but also be an inconvenience to them. “okay,” she shifted closer; now they were in this together, it seemed. “we can either ask around, or I can play the influencer card…” she listed her ideas, looking at Dylan, expecting him to pinch in as he took another bite of her donut.
"Um... we might have a problem here." Dylan had been working from home all morning, and a walk to grab coffee seemed like the perfect way to stretch his legs. He didn’t expect to run into a snag like this. The night before, after a long day of meetings, he had stopped by the grocery store to restock his fridge and pantry. On his way out, he was intercepted by the high school girls’ basketball team, who were selling homemade baked goods to fund their trip to a tournament in February. A sucker for sweets, Dylan had found himself spending forty dollars cash on a collection of macaroons, cookies, brownies, cupcakes, and chocolate-covered pretzels. At least it was for a good cause, though his wallet hadn’t agreed. “Do you think they’d be willing to let us pay later?” he asked, his voice tinged with uncertainty. “An old-fashioned IOU, maybe?"
