Actually, Guzman is his spanish name.
OH YEAH some other folks pointed that out too, makes sense since it's an irl Spanish name (probably why I see it around a lot!) 😳
(normally it's a surname, I've only seen it used as a first name once in a blue moon -- but also in the pokemon world it's pretty clear that naming conventions aren't the same lol)
#oceandi answers#radicalldreamer#still harder for me to connect it to him since I played all the games in english -- it's only one letter away but it still feels just a#smidge closer than 'bromley'#frankly I hope someone out there calls him 'bromley guzmán' as his full name. and he just GOES by 'guzma' bc it sounds cool#that'd be neat#tag rambling#rambling ahead ->#speaking of guzma I spent a long time talking about aus with some friends and well. I think his dad's from johto skdjfksjdfskjd#iirc that was a HC back in the day amongst a small group of guz enjoyers.... but I think it makes SO much sense for gene's guz specifical#ly bc listen . hear me out okay he somehow knew about the bug trainers' convention and he wanted to go and usu'ally they#hold it in JOHTO. he's never won a gold medal for BATTLE but got the dawn stone as his first ever victory -- guess what region you can#get a dawn stone from in a competition that's based on more than just battling? YEAH -- JOHTO BUG CATCHING CONTEST BABEYYY#(hgss edition)#TWO of his main team are johto pokemon#he moved from melemele island to ula'ula where malie city/garden are -- inspired by johto and even including a johto-style gym#(I mean yeah he STAYED bc po town had a sudden amount of free real estate but why did he GO THERE in the FIRST place to join the#proto-Team Skull.)#though ig if he hates his dad maybe his dad's Not from johto and is from paldea instead ('rents could've been inspired by the name guzmán#and just wanted to make it sound more unique lol)#but either way he totally used to go to johto with his dad which is where he won a bug catching contest with his pinsir.#and then started winning battles there but always getting second/third place in actual like. /competition/ competitions. so not#getting the grand prizes/money/stuff/fame that his dad wanted him to earn for the family#ANYWAYS.

Crack fic idea: Gaara from the future pops in Rasa's office, says "I like gardening", and disappears.
Rasa, who's just lost three ambus that week because of Gaara, decides to try out a method he hasn't ever tried before: befriend his son. The two of them 'bound' over how weird it is that every single plant Rasa touches dies in the next day, while Gaara can grow a tree out of cement.
Bonus 1: You know how sometimes you're talking to a person, and then they say something so utterly horrible it edges breaking the acceptable metric? Well, Gaara and Rasa would take turns being the psychopath™ in the room.
Bonus 2: The old lady who cares for the gardening put a 'no killing' rule on the door, and Gaara... is trying.
#out of character Gaara driven by... a sudden interest in gardening#out of character Rasa driven by desperation#sabaku no gaara#gaara#naruto#sabaku no rasa#crack fic

"The Waste Land" by T. S. Eliot, page 15
After an extended travelling vacation break, I’m back with a new page from my ongoing comics adaptation of “The Burial of the Dead,” the first section of T. S. Eliot’s epochal poem “The Waste Land” (Click on image to enlarge). Next week (hopefully): The exciting (and definitely not dark) grand finale!

Headcannon about Tech: He's the friend/partner who if he gets into a hobby with you then by next time you see him he will be am expert in that field.

could you imagine what it would be like if seasons actually were like in video games (specifically thinking about farming sims like stardew valley and the like)
where for all of spring its like yeah, some rain, some sun, and then suddenly it's summer and EVERYTHING IS HOT THERE WAS NO LEAD UP and then same SUDDENLY AUTUMN AND EVERYTHING IS HALF DEAD AND IT'S COLDER
#this made a lot more sense in my head than it does typing it out but#i'm specifically thinking about how much it would suck for such a sudden severe change#it already sucks when it does happen irl but it looks so severe in farming games especially between autumn and winter#like oh cozy sweater weath- DEPTHS OF COLD RISE UP TO CONSUME LIFE#you wake up at midnight on 21st december to the THUD of 2ft of snow just COVERING YOUR ROOF YOUR GARDEN#BEWARE YE FAIR TRAVELLER LEST YOU BE CAUGHT IN THE CHANGE OF SEASONS#IF YOU ARE CROSSING THE RIVER AT THE MOMENT THE ICE COMES#THERE WILL BE NO SAVING THEE#puri rambles

One thing I've found important but also sometimes difficult to learn is that the difference between a 'butterfly garden' and a 'biodiverse habitat' is that you gotta accept that sometimes things are gonna die.
This isn't to say that you shouldn't try to tend to things. If I find a bunch of oleander aphids harassing some of my young milkweed plants, I'll get the hose and spray them off no problem--hard to tend a garden and save milkweed seeds if they're getting the life sucked out of them before they can even go to seed. If I see a lot of snails starting to devour some of my flowers and turn them into brown mush, I'll pick them off and toss them to the neighborhood ducks.
But with that being said, creating a biodiverse environment for wildlife means there's gonna be prey animals and predator animals, and some insects may fill several niches. I plant milkweed and other flowers so monarchs and other insects can enjoy them as a host plant and a nectar source. Some years, I can barely even find large caterpillars because the wasps just go ham and pig out. That doesn't mean I'm gonna hunt down any and every wasp nest and spray it to death for being oh-so-mean to my precious baby caterpillars! They're just trying to survive, just like everything else in my garden!
And in the grand scheme, everything is part of a cycle that feeds everything else. The caterpillars feed the wasps, which then feed the cardinals and chickadees and mocking birds. Later in the summer, I always see some ladybugs, and my aphid problems drop even without me bringing out the hose. Sure, the snails are a major problem for me, right now. But they might be feeding things I'm not even seeing, late at night--like blindworms, or possums, or frogs, and maybe even the birds are going at them when I'm not outside.
The literal basis of my pollinator garden is so things can eat other things--the caterpillars feed on the milkweed, after all. I can't deny that they're part of an ecosystem, and the effort in trying to just sprays poisons everywhere for no real reason.
If I really wanted to, I could try and collect every single tiny little baby caterpillar and keep them in a little container, so I can rear them by hand, if it hurts too much to think of them getting eaten by wasps. My next door neighbor did that. Brought in 26 caterpillars to protect them from outside enemies, and promptly ran out of milkweed. Out of all that, only maybe 10 tops made it. And the instant she set out her stripped-bare plants again, there were already more monarchs coming in and laying seeds on the stems of plants that just barely were starting to leaf back out.
Nature's a balancing act. Monarchs have been dealing with pests like wasps through all this time. Every time I wonder where the caterpillars are, I sure can still find a few dozen eggs on my plants. Butterflies are still dropping by, still laying tons of eggs on my plants. And it's not like I go out there five times a day to count caterpillars--for all I know, there could still be dozens of those little guys growing up where I don't even see them.
I feel like I'm losing my point. Long story short, if wasps are eating some caterpillars in my backyard, I'm not gonna lose my mind. I want my garden to be part of a wider ecosystem, not a members-only club.
#ani rambles#out of queue#pollinator gardening#'but Ani if you don't mind things dying in your garden why are you killing snails' I spent MONEY on those plants#and they're always my non-milkweed favorites they're going after!!!#coneflowers rudbeckias zucchini squash foxglove I'm not allowed to have nice things because of those fuckers#am I being a bit unfair to them???? maybe#but also you try picking off 100 goddamn snails from your fuckin flowers after a rainy day and see how you feel#'ani make your garden less moist to handle the snail problem' I live in FLORIDA#if I don't water things'll bake OR it'll just rain anyways for three days straight and all of a sudden my rudbeckias are dead#I need to attract some goddamn snail eating frogs but until then im putting them in a bucket and feeding them to#the ducks that live in my neighborhood

I just had a vision and it's so stupid and very out of context but imagine torikasa walking and Tori is going off about something and they're at the pond and because he doesn't pay attention to his surroundings he trips and falls in the lake and in my head it's just that image of him standing shoulder-deep in that water with a lily pad on his head looking incredibly annoyed and Tsukasa standing next to that and laughing because it looks so silly and it's so so dumband probably very out of character but just consider the mental image of it is very endearing
girl help my knight says i look like a wet cat
#LSKDJMLSKDJMKS its indeed a super endearing mental imageeee i love them#in my head this is the suous house probably because theyre totally the type to have a pond in their garden i am so sure of it#i need to read sudden death#enstars#torikasa#also sorry it took me sooo long to get back to you waahh i rly wanted to draw it#starpros sunshine#preguntas

on the topic of that post about traditions, i was also talking with some friends about how i really like the "modern traditional" aesthetics of overwatch. you can definitely tell its the future, but there's a lot of regional building techniques in places that allow it that also abandon western aesthetics in favor of embracing the culture of the maps area. i know it's to give each map a unique aesthetic and the creators were not thinking as deeply about it as i am, but i enjoy thinking too much. big central cities obviously need metal and glass and so forth to support the infrastructure, but on maps for smaller locations, you can see that they're made with mostly local supplies. it was on the mind because i saw a video about the stigma against grass thatched houses in africa and how theyre seen as a backwards way of living, when in reality theyre actually the most environmentally friendly way to make a house in the area and theyre also energy efficient. you dont need to run heating and cooling through a house that heats and cools itself, you dont need to worry about food spoiling if its kept chilled naturally, and you dont need to worry about costly repairs to your house if the materials are readily available. its trying to build every shelter in a western style to try to show the world that a place has been "civilized" that leads to the loss of efficiency and culture and history and a million other things. anyway i think im probably the only person who cares about the sociopolitical implications of the funny monkey with a laser gun game this much
#and dont get me started on the spiritualism and scientific advancements in that world#i was never involved in the fandom for a reason. everyone was busy making hunky boys kiss. i was busy dropping out of environmental science#in my head there is a beautiful future where no history was lost and where there is a major switch that is flipped and all of a sudden#infrastructure is made listening to the people who know the land and how to build on it while sustaining it best. in my head there is a#beautiful future where real estate companies can no longer pave over wetlands so long as they 'just build another one somewhere else'#because you cannot just build another one. it is an incredibly complex filtering system that you cannot just recreate by dumping water over#some grass and adding bugs and calling it a day. in my head there are no empty houses and there are town squares and there are gardens#in my head i live in a beautiful past where my great great grandma never had to take the name america smith!!#but here we are so we must destroy pavement heatsinks and tend gardens
