Crack fic idea: Gaara from the future pops in Rasa's office, says "I like gardening", and disappears.

Rasa, who's just lost three ambus that week because of Gaara, decides to try out a method he hasn't ever tried before: befriend his son. The two of them 'bound' over how weird it is that every single plant Rasa touches dies in the next day, while Gaara can grow a tree out of cement.

Bonus 1: You know how sometimes you're talking to a person, and then they say something so utterly horrible it edges breaking the acceptable metric? Well, Gaara and Rasa would take turns being the psychopath™ in the room.

Bonus 2: The old lady who cares for the gardening put a 'no killing' rule on the door, and Gaara... is trying.

(normally it's a surname, I've only seen it used as a first name once in a blue moon -- but also in the pokemon world it's pretty clear that naming conventions aren't the same lol)

BweirdOCtober day 15! I've had this animatic wip in my files to finish for three years, but always felt too self conscious to post it akfhskf. I'm too attached to completely abandon the concept, so I figured I'd bite the bullet and post the unfinished thing for OCtober! The character designs aren't up to date, but the lore is still the same!

OC lore/plot summary under the cut!

In the aftermath of the intensification of the Monolith Empire's attacks on the city of Delphi, Scarlet sends her brother Titan and high priest William to make arrangements with the city of Sanctuary for asylum for her and her people. Titan has never been outside of his sister's domain, having been raised by her since their father left to try and distract the very same cult that has turned the force of their host empire upon their coastal town. He finds the task of diplomacy both exhilarating and nerve-racking, but has the support of William to stave off the worst of his concerns.

Back in Delphi, things take a turn for the worst as Scarlet attempts to navigate the wrath of a storm god to protect her followers. The battle that follows ends with the divine link she maintains with all her followers being severed, causing Titan to panic and dive into the Nexus in an attempt to discern her whereabouts. Reaching through the Nexus ends up being pointless however: whatever has happened has severed not only her divine link to her followers, but also the divine link between their respective godly domains.

Cut off from his last present family member for the first time in his life, Titan struggles to reconcile his expectations of godly responsibility with his new reality as the only god for the people of Delphi, something his new companions are unprepared to handle.

Meanwhile...

Separated from her followers, drained of magic, and attempting to repair her damage divine vessel, Scarlet awakes to find herself completely isolated for the first time since she took up the mantle of goddess of Delphi. The road ahead of her is fraught with danger, but for her followers and her family, she is willing to do anything to return to them safely.

I saw an 18th century mill (and surrounding buildings and land) for sale and all I can think about is how I want to live there with a pile of my friends and our collective kids and pets and assorted guests, grow our own food, raise some chickens and throw a few summer parties in the barn. So you know how Sugishita helps Umemiya out with taking care of his garden? I was thinking about Sugishita asking him if he could have a small patch of empty soil at the side of the plot, specifically so he can grow some fresh flowers for you. And of course they take time, he has to sow the seeds and cultivate them until they’re ready— but he takes such good care of them until they’re ready to be picked and gifted to you.

And the way you glow when you accept them from him shows it was all worthwhile, as he continues to pick different kinds of things to grow for you🥺

Jo 🥺 this thought makes my heart melt! Especially if he does it even before you two are an item. He notices how umemiya always talks about sharing their produce with the community and how they are fostering relationships that way. And sugishita wants to do that with you - wants to be closer to you and signal to you that he likes having you around 🥺 but the produce is for everyone and he wants something special for just you!

Also Sugishita knowing all the hard labor and patience (!!) was worth it once he sees how happy HE made you & then being encouraged to continue to built different bouquets makes me wanna sob 😭

Also what if he tells you about the garden after you ask him where he bought them (the idea of you thinking they are store-worthy makes him really proud) & you ask if you can see it/ help him sometime 🥺

where for all of spring its like yeah, some rain, some sun, and then suddenly it's summer and EVERYTHING IS HOT THERE WAS NO LEAD UP and then same SUDDENLY AUTUMN AND EVERYTHING IS HALF DEAD AND IT'S COLDER

One thing I've found important but also sometimes difficult to learn is that the difference between a 'butterfly garden' and a 'biodiverse habitat' is that you gotta accept that sometimes things are gonna die.

This isn't to say that you shouldn't try to tend to things. If I find a bunch of oleander aphids harassing some of my young milkweed plants, I'll get the hose and spray them off no problem--hard to tend a garden and save milkweed seeds if they're getting the life sucked out of them before they can even go to seed. If I see a lot of snails starting to devour some of my flowers and turn them into brown mush, I'll pick them off and toss them to the neighborhood ducks.

But with that being said, creating a biodiverse environment for wildlife means there's gonna be prey animals and predator animals, and some insects may fill several niches. I plant milkweed and other flowers so monarchs and other insects can enjoy them as a host plant and a nectar source. Some years, I can barely even find large caterpillars because the wasps just go ham and pig out. That doesn't mean I'm gonna hunt down any and every wasp nest and spray it to death for being oh-so-mean to my precious baby caterpillars! They're just trying to survive, just like everything else in my garden!

And in the grand scheme, everything is part of a cycle that feeds everything else. The caterpillars feed the wasps, which then feed the cardinals and chickadees and mocking birds. Later in the summer, I always see some ladybugs, and my aphid problems drop even without me bringing out the hose. Sure, the snails are a major problem for me, right now. But they might be feeding things I'm not even seeing, late at night--like blindworms, or possums, or frogs, and maybe even the birds are going at them when I'm not outside.

The literal basis of my pollinator garden is so things can eat other things--the caterpillars feed on the milkweed, after all. I can't deny that they're part of an ecosystem, and the effort in trying to just sprays poisons everywhere for no real reason.

If I really wanted to, I could try and collect every single tiny little baby caterpillar and keep them in a little container, so I can rear them by hand, if it hurts too much to think of them getting eaten by wasps. My next door neighbor did that. Brought in 26 caterpillars to protect them from outside enemies, and promptly ran out of milkweed. Out of all that, only maybe 10 tops made it. And the instant she set out her stripped-bare plants again, there were already more monarchs coming in and laying seeds on the stems of plants that just barely were starting to leaf back out.

Nature's a balancing act. Monarchs have been dealing with pests like wasps through all this time. Every time I wonder where the caterpillars are, I sure can still find a few dozen eggs on my plants. Butterflies are still dropping by, still laying tons of eggs on my plants. And it's not like I go out there five times a day to count caterpillars--for all I know, there could still be dozens of those little guys growing up where I don't even see them.

I feel like I'm losing my point. Long story short, if wasps are eating some caterpillars in my backyard, I'm not gonna lose my mind. I want my garden to be part of a wider ecosystem, not a members-only club.

I just had a vision and it's so stupid and very out of context but imagine torikasa walking and Tori is going off about something and they're at the pond and because he doesn't pay attention to his surroundings he trips and falls in the lake and in my head it's just that image of him standing shoulder-deep in that water with a lily pad on his head looking incredibly annoyed and Tsukasa standing next to that and laughing because it looks so silly and it's so so dumband probably very out of character but just consider the mental image of it is very endearing
