“Oh shit,” Alani whined as Jon started hammering in and out of her wet pussy. He pushed one of her knees up to her chest and wrapped her other leg around his waist. The position allowed him to hit her sweet spot head on.”Jon, shit.” She moaned out, closing her eyes in ecstasy as he pounded into her.  He was showing her no mercy. She had teased him all night sending him dirty text messages and pictures. He had left the arena as soon as his match was over, telling his brothers and cousin that he wasn’t feeling well.
“Nah , where you goin’?” He asked as she pushed on his lower stomach trying to push him away. He grabbed her hand and placed it above her head, holding it down to the bed. “This what you wanted right?” He asked, slowing his thrust and leaning down to press kisses on her neck. He picked his head up and slapped her thigh when she didn’t answer him. “You hear me talking to you”
Alani let her eyes roll into the back of her head and moaned out ”Yes”. He was absolutely right, this was exactly what she wanted. She knew that he was already wound up and horny from being constantly interrupted all week and she had not been any help by sending him those pictures earlier.
She gasped when he suddenly pulled out and flipped her on her stomach. “F-fuck” He stuttered once he pushed himself back inside of her. He placed one hand on the back of her neck pinning her down to the bed, his eyes glued to her ass as it ricocheted off of his stomach.
“Mmhmm'' He groaned, his eyes rolling in the back of his head. “Just like that” Jon’s head pulled back in pleasure as Alani continued to throw her ass back on him.
“You like that daddy?” She asked, feeling herself grow wetter at the sounds that he was making.
“I fucking love it.” Jon moaned, feeling her pussy tighten around him. He quickly maneuvered them back into missionary position, knowing that she liked to look in his eyes when she came.  He had a wicked grin on his face as he watched her eyes become glazed over.
“Yeah, you gonna cum on your dick?” Alani could only muster up a loud moan in response. She pulled him back down by the back of his neck and captured his lips with hers. Moaning into each other's mouth as her pussy started to spasm around his length.  Alani broke to kiss to let out a cry of his she came, her juices rushing out of her and soaking his pelvic area and the sheets below them.
“Shit” He moaned out, his thrust faltering. She opened her eyes, licking her lips as they made eye contact. “Where you want it at baby?” Jon asked, watching and letting out a moan as she brought her hand to her pussy and started rubbing her clit.
“Oh fuck, baby.” She moaned out feeling herself about to cum again. “I want you to cum in me.”
He looked at Alani with glossy eyes. “Fuck yeah,” he groaned out before pushing her legs up so her feet were almost touching the headboard, knees by her ears.
“Shit, i’m bouta cum” Jon moaned out as he pounded into her. He let out a loud groan as he came inside her, hops stuttering as continued to thrust slowly into her, her pussy milking him of every last drop. He pulled out and collapsed on the bed next to her holding his hand up for a high five.
Alani looked over at him. “You're so corny.” she rolled her eyes and slapped her hand against his. She rolled onto her side, propping herself up on her elbow, trailing her fingers up and down his chest.
“Only for you baby, only for you.”  He muttered, eyes closed as he puckered his lips from a kiss to which she happily obliged.
“I love you.” She whispered against his lips.
“I love you too.”

“What’s going on?” Cassandra asked, looking at Rhysand then Azriel.
“Is everything okay?” Morrigan asks, setting her bags down, Cassandra following suit.
“We tried to question Vale today,” Rhysand responded, straightening out his suit jacket. Glancing at Azriel, who still wore that look of pure death.
“Tried?” Morrigan asks, her own arms folding across her chest.
Rhysand took in a deep breath, looking at Cassandra, a slight frown on his face.
“He said he’ll only answer our questions if you’re in the room—”
“No.” Morrigan cuts him off immediately, straightening her spine.
“Mor,” Rhysand warns.
“You’re actually considering it? You would let her be in a room with that—that monster,” She snarled, stepping closer to her friend’s side.
Cassanda’s eyes met Azriel’s again, less intense as if to comfort her but his shadows still a fury around him.
“He wouldn’t get anywhere near her. It’s not your decision, Morrigan,” Rhysand said, mouth in a tight line.
“It’s not yours either, it’s Cassandra’s,” Azriel said, “He doesn’t have to touch her to cause more trauma. You do not have to see him if you don’t want to.”
“But it would be a great help to easily get the information from him,” Rhysand said, giving his brother a warning look.
Cassandra chewed on her bottom lip. Morrigan was still standing partially in front of her, legs spread apart, arms crossed as if she would fight Rhysand if he tried to step towards her. Rhysand had an expecting look on his face and Cassian looked…awkward? Maybe he didn’t like his friends arguing this way. Cassandra knew she didn’t.
“What would I do, just stand there? Would I—would I have to talk to him?” She asked, and Rhys shook his head.
“No, of course not and yes you would just be there in the room,” Rhysand answers and Azriel hisses.
“That is not the full truth,” He says, siphons surging on the back of his hands, shadows darting in every direction.
“Azriel—”
“Tell me, Rhysand, please. I can handle it. I want to help but I have to know what I’m getting into,” She said, straightening herself out, stepping from behind Morrigan. How could she expect them to believe she could handle things if she stayed cowering behind Morrigan or Azriel? She could do this.
Azriel fixed her with a look, as if he was proud of her actions.
“He initially asked for Neema. She shut that down quickly. He then specifically asked for you because he…wants to look at you,” Rhysand explains and Cassandra felt her stomach flip, nausea overcoming her.
“I can get the answers we need in other ways without traumatizing her further,” Azriel growls at his brother, noticing her distress, “Cassandra, you don’t have to—”
“Look at me,” She repeated breathlessly. Blinking her eyes furiously to fight the images trying to flash before her. “That’s what he used to do. He couldn’t touch me because I would be damaged goods—he’d get less money for me. So he would make me stand there unclothed and look at me while he touched himself or Neema. Just let me look at you is what he would say.”
She heard the harsh breath Rhysand let out, she didn’t look his way.
“Cassandra,” It’s Azriel’s voice in her head but she shakes her head, breathing deeply.
In. Out.
In. Out.
In. Out.
She opens her eyes and looks into those hazel ones, patients and concern swirling there.
“You’ll be there?” She asked, and he nodded instantly.
“Of course, I’ll be there,” He answers.  She nods to herself. Thinking.
“What happens to him after he’s questioned?” She ask, would he be let go? Locked away?
“He’ll be killed,” Rhysand answers bluntly.
“Good.” Is her answer. “I’ll do it.”
“You’re sure?” Azriel asks, worry creasing those brows while a relieved look comes over Rhysand’s face.
“Yes,” She answered. “When?”
“The sooner the better,” Rhysand said, and though he still looked relieved that Cassandra agreed she could see the apology in those violet eyes.
“I would like to put my things away first,” She said, Azriel crossing the short distance between them.
“I’ll help you bring your bags up,” He offered, giving her no room to protest before he scooped her bags up easily.
As they entered the house she could hear Mor as she began yelling at Rhysand.
Azriel let her lead the way to her bedroom, she was getting fairly good at navigating the halls. She liked to roam around in the middle of the night when everyone else was sleeping. This house was huge but she was sure she could get to the main areas of the house with little to no help.
When they got to her room she pushed the door open and walked in. She looked over her shoulder to see Azriel standing at the door. She raised an eyebrow in question and the corner of his mouth quirked up slightly.
“I can’t come in, remember,” He says, and she was glad to see some of that light amusement return to his eyes.
“Oh, well, come in,” she said, he looked skeptical for a moment before slowly extending his leg through the doorway before stepping fully in.
“Rhys doesn’t mess around with his wards,” He says when he notices the look on her face. “If you hadn’t invited me in and I tried to just walk in I would have ricochet off it straight into the wall back there.”
Cassandra let out a breathy laugh, gesturing to the bed for Azriel to put the bags down.
“Did you have a good day with Mor?” He asked gently and she turned to him with a small smile and nodded. She was grateful he asked. Talking about the day would distract her from what they were going to do after this.
“It was amazing, Azriel! I've never experienced anything like that. It was a bit overwhelming if I’m honest but Morrigan made it easy to enjoy myself,” She smiled again as he perched himself on the end of the bed, his attention focused fully on her. She grabbed one of the bags pulling it over—the one with all of the pastries in it.
“We went to this lovely little bakery,” she started, pulling out various treats. “Morrigan told me to pick out anything I wanted—everything looked and smelled so good, it was hard to choose.”
“It does smell delicious,” Azriel agreed, eyes scanning over the arrangement of food laid out on the bed, wrapped in papers and boxes.
“These two bags are just some clothes Morrigan helped me pick out, that one is a gown, I’m still not sure what I would need it for but it is very pretty,” She told him, grabbing that bag, unzipping it to show him the gown, the one that perfectly matched his siphons. If he noticed he didn’t comment.
“That is very pretty, you could wear it for Starfall coming up,” He said, a small smile on his face when she looked up at him.
“Do you think it would be possible for me to visit my mothers grave that day?” She asked, as Starfall was one of the few good memories she had with her mother.
“Of course, you never have to ask, we can go visit her any time you’d like,” Azriel promises, “What else did you get?”
Cassandra smiled at him, showing him the rest of her haul from the day. He snickered at the books but just as Morrigan had, said he would be more than happy to help her learn to read. It made her happier than he probably realized.
After she finished showing him everything he stepped out of the room so she could freshen up—change her clothes and mentally prepare herself.
She changed into an outfit that was a bit too big for her. Long sleeves and long pants. She didn’t want him to see her skin, she didn’t want him to see her at all. But what he did to Neema? To so many other girls? To her? She couldn’t sit by and not help get answers, justice.
She knew Azriel noted the outfit she was wearing but chose not to say anything.
“We’re going to winnow there, are you okay with that? We haven’t done it since that first night,” Azriel asked and Cassandra simply nodded, stepping closer to him, tucking her wings close to her back as he wrapped an arm around her.
The place they arrive at was beautiful yet terrifying.
“Where are we?” She asked, looking around. He doesn’t answer out loud as he leads her down a dark avenue.
“This is the Hewn City. The rest of Prythian does not know of the existence of Velaris. They believe Rhysand only rules over this part of the Night Court—the Court of Nightmares.”
“Oh.” Is her answer, she tries not to look at anything or anyone as thet move through the streets of this underground city—no, not underground, inside of a mountain. She wondered if it was the same mountain the House of a wind was on—she would ask later.
The walk was mostly silent. They walked across many bridges and flights of stairs. Going through most of the city. Down and around and down some more. Her legs and feet hurt and just when she was ready to tell Azriel she couldn’t go anymore they halted.
Cassandra looked at him in question. He simply nodded towards the wall, she didn’t see anything.
“He’s behind here,” Azriel explains, his eyes scanning her face.
“Okay,” she nodded slowly, not totally understanding since there was no door.
“Rhys will be there the entire time. Cassian will be there the entire time. I will be with you the entire time. Don't be fearful. Don’t let him scare you. If you find yourself feeling uncomfortable tell me immediately and I’ll get you out of there. He’s chained up, he will not lay a finger on you. If he even tried he would die,” Azriel promised. She looked up at him, unease filling her and took in a deep breath as he added , “Would you feel safer if I gave you this?”
She looked down, in his outstretched hand laid a black hilted dagger with a sharp and shiny blade.
She reached out, taking it gently from his hand.
“I’ve never used one before,” she whispered, looking down at the knife in her hand.
“You won’t need to use it, but if you did Truth Teller wouldn’t let you miss,” Azriel spoke confidently. “You ready?”
 She looked up at him and nodded her head.
⋆ ݁⟡ ݁☾ ݁⟡ ݁⋆
Azriel hated this. Hated it. His shadows hissed in ear not to bring her in. To protect her. To grab her and take her back to the House of Wind.
And though he wanted to, he wouldn’t do that to her. She deserved to make her own decisions but this just felt so wrong.
But after he sheathed Truth Teller and tied it around her waist he felt slightly better.
She didn’t know the weight of the dagger, its power or what it meant to him. All that mattered in this moment is it made her feel safe and it gave him some peace of mind that if somehow this piece of shit got through three warriors she had a weapon that could kill.
“Lets go,” he says, offering his hand to her, she places it there gently and much to her surprise they turn to the wall and he led her straight through.
On the other side was a dark hall, no doors, lit only by a few lights and she grasped Azriel’s hand tighter.
“This is where we keep a majority of prisoners that haven’t been sentenced for crimes or are being questioned,” Azriel explained, voice low and quiet.
“Is Kamari here?”
“No, she’s in a cell under the House of Wind. She’s not dangerous—a terrible person yes, but not dangerous to anyone she could potentially interact with. We don’t want this guy anywhere near the females and too many of them live and work at the house. That’s why he’s here. No one can get in here except Rhys, Cassian, myself and anyone we choose to allow in,” Azriel explained, stopping at another seemingly empty stretch of wall. “How are you feeling?”
“I’m okay,” she said, fingers twisting at her side. “I’m scared to see him.”
“You don’t need to be scared but do you want to leave?” Azriel asks, taking a step closer to her, ready to scoop her up and take her home.
“No, I want to do this,” she shook her head.
“Okay, he’s right on the other side of this wall,” Azriel explained, trying to prepare her. “When we first walk in, his back will be to us so you don’t have to see his face straight away. You’re welcome to stand but there are chairs if you’d like to sit. Rhysand will be in charge of the interrogation if you believe he’s lying about something or leaving details out don’t hesitate to tell one of us. Rhys says he’ll have communications open so you can talk to him or Cassian easily if you need to. You do not have to speak to this guy but he will try to speak to you. He’s going to want to scare, to tell you all of the things he’s done—he knows what his fate is after we get what we want from him. You have the power here. You say stop then we stop and I take you out of there.”
Azriel watches as she takes a shaky break, closing her eyes to calm herself. When she opens them Azriel is still standing there patiently.
“Okay. Okay, I’m good,” She nods her head in a way that’s reassuring to herself, grazing her hand over Truth Teller before dropping her hands to her side.
She watches as Azriel approaches the wall, stepping through easily as they had done before. Another deep breath, wiping her sweaty palms across her pants before she too walks forward, straight through the wall.
The room is a bit brighter than the hallway and it takes her eyes a moment to adjust before they fix on the figure in the middle of the room. His blue skin and the clothes he’s wearing looks dirty, he’s chained to a chair and his head turns slightly as if sensing she entered the room, but not enough to see her yet. She wanted to cling to the wall and beg Azriel to come back to her side.
But she didn’t.
She wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of cowering.
She knew the three men in this room wouldn’t allow any harm to come to her. She scanned the room, there were two chairs further away from where the male was sitting while Rhysand sat in one directly in front of the male just a few steps away. Cassian stood with his back to a large stone, giving her a small nod when they made eye contact and Azriel stood there behind the man—in a spot she could see him from wherever she chose to stand, a look on his face she hadn’t quite seen before. She could tell only one thing about that look though, he would enjoy killing Vale.
Cassandra made her way to the opposite wall of where she had entered, choosing not to sit but to stand, using the wall as support, keeping her wings tucked as she leaned back against the wall.
“Come on High Lord, give me my sight back now. You said I would be able to see her,” Vale hissed, the sound of his voice like a shot of ice down her spine, she suppressed the reaction easily enough.
Rhysand looked over his shoulder at Cassandra, silently asking her if she was okay, if she was ready. She simply nodded. He waved his hand and those eyes, the ones she still had dreams about suddenly zeroed in on her. It took everything in her to suppress any reaction that time.
A grin spread across his face as his eyes tracked her body. Up and down, taking in every detail.
“Wow. Look at you,” he said, licking his lips, “you look even better than I remember. I…wish I could see more.”
“Yeah, well you can’t,” Cassian is the one to answer.
“What no hello?” Vale grinned again.
“She’s not required to speak to you, that wasn’t part of the deal,” Rhysand’s voice thundered through the room.
“Not that she could anyway” Vale sniggered, nodding his head, eyes still trained on Cassandra. “Alright come on, ask me the questions.”
He sounded bored but Cassandra wasn’t stupid and neither were any of the males in that room. There was fear in those black eyes. He did indeed know his fate.
“How long have you been in the business of purchasing females and selling them to sex houses?” Rhysand asked.
“I don’t know, a year maybe,” Vale groans at the look Rhysand gives home. “Look, man, I drink and smoke myself out every day I lose a good bit of time.”
“I was at the pleasure house with Kamari for 2 years and with him for almost a year.” Cassandra says, and Rhys nods in acknowledgment.
“Wanna think a little harder about that? It’s definitely been more than a year,” Rhysand said, Vale narrowing his eyes into slits.
“How could you possibly know that? Why ask if you’re just gonna say I’m lying?” Vale bares his teeth at Rhysand.
“Why lie in the first place? You know your fate, lying won’t change that. You know I could enter your mind and destroy it in a second while getting the answers I seek. I’m doing you a courtesy by asking this way.”
Vale is silent for a moment before glancing at Cassandra. “Four years.”
“How many women did you buy and sell during that time? How did you find them?” Rhysand asked, Vale took a deep breath, looking up at the roof as if thinking.
“Probably eighty,” He says, Rhys’ face hardens further at that—Cassian’s mouth falling open slightly.
“Eighty women in four years? Or 80 every year for four years?” Rhys asks through clenched teeth.
“Eighty in all four years,” Vale confirms and while it’s a relief, that’s still a lot of women. “Most of them were sold to me by family members who owed me money, but couldn't pay it back so they sold me a daughter, wife, sister instead.”
“How did you learn of these pleasure houses buying females from people like you?” Rhysand asked.
“Word gets around the streets. There’s only three that will buy the females. The Velvet Pearl, Hidden Desires and Lavender house. Kamari recruits men to find the women and sells them for money—usually addicts looking for a fix. She buys her drugs from me, that's how I got started.” Vale explained.
“How many of them did you keep for yourself?” Rhysand asked, and Vale just laughed.
“Not as many as you might think. It never even crossed my mind to have a little fun with the merchandise before selling to the pleasure houses. Neema—she’s the only one I ever kept seeing as she’s my mate and all,” Vale confessed and Cassandra couldn’t stop the gasp she took in.
“That’s right,” Vale grinned. “The bond snapped into place the night her brother sold her to me.”
“And you thought that was the proper way to treat your mate,” Cassian snarls. Vale simply shrugs his shoulders, looking back at Cassandra.
“If she hadn’t been my mate though, I would have kept you,” Vale said, smiling at Cassandra. “Everything I did to her I would have done to you—including removing those horrid wings. Tell me, which one of these bastards got the pleasure of bending you over and fucking you—”
Vale’s rant is cut off when one of Azriel’s shadows wraps around his throat. The blue skinned male chokes, eyes widening.
“I’d watch your fucking mouth if I were you,” Azriel hisses, only letting up his shadow’s grip when Cassandra nods her head at him.
“At least any one of these males could get a woman into their bed without having to rape her,” Cassandra retorts, Cassian snorting out an amused laugh, relaying the message when Vale looked his way, turning back and snarling at Cassandra like a rabid wolf.
The interrogation went on for what felt like hours. Vale answered the questions Rhysand asked. Cassandra confirmed if he was being truthful or not for certain things. And they all stood there as he described every awful, vile, disgusting thing he did to the women he bought and sold. How he had brutalized and assaulted them before selling them off to be salves for pleasure houses.
He knew none of their names. None except Neema. He didn’t even know Cassandra’s name and she was standing right there in front of him.
He did however know the names of all the ones who sold the females—they now had a list of where to start, of how to find the females that had been sold off to the three pleasure houses.
It’s was when they were getting ready to leave that things started going sideways. Azriel had check in many times with Cassandra to make sure she was okay. And she had been, despite this feeling in her stomach, this thrumming that made her skin feel like it was vibrating.
“So, I guess it would be out of line to ask for a turn with you before I go out?” Vale laughed, leering at Cassandra. And it was Cassian’s fist that landed the blow to his face.
“Fuck! You know,” Vale continued with a  laugh, blood dripping from his mouth, “your father almost sold me your sister instead. Pretty little thing she is.”
He just wants to rile you up.
He wants to scare you.
He wants a reaction.
“Only he wouldn’t have got as much for her cause she’d had sex with some male. She was used—but man, if he had I would have kept her, too, I would have taken both of you and kept you just like that little bitch in my basement—“
Cassandra snarled and something inside of her snapped. Before anyone could blink she was across the room Truth Teller gripped in her hand and pressed against Vale’s throat as she crouched over him. Black eyes widened in shock—fear. Good. He wasn’t expecting it.
“Cassandra?” Azriel’s concerned voice sounded muffled and far away. She didn’t take her eyes away from the man cowering beneath her.
“She can shield?!” is Cassian's alarmed shout.
“Cassandra?!” Rhys calls out, feeling whatever shield was around her vibrate as he sent a blast of magic into it.
“I don’t think she can hear us, Rhys!” Azriel calls out.
Cassandra could hear them but the look on Vale’s face was too satisfying to look away from. She pressed the dagger harder against his neck, digging it into the skin there, scenting his blood.
“Are you afraid?” She asked, faces only inches apart. She wasn’t sure how she was talking to him but she didn’t care either. Not when the smell of blood mixed with urine as he pissed on himself.
“Please, p—please,” he begged, trying to pull away from the blade digging into his throat.
“Cassandra, come on, let the shield down, love!”
“I remember begging you like that before you took my tongue. I shouldn’t let them kill you, everything you did to me, to Neema, to all those other girls you deserve to have done to you,” she snarls, Truth Teller thrumming in her hand as if encouraging her to slit his throat and watch him bleed out.
“What the hell is happening, Rhys?” Cassian’s voice rings outside of that shield.
“Fuck!” Azriel hisses as he tries to touch that shield, his hand bouncing off of it immediately.
“I should take your eyes,” she declared. “So that you can never look at anyone again. I should take your tongue the way you took mine. Chop off your cock so you can never fuck again. I should do all that and let you live with it every day of your miserable life!”
He cries out, struggling under her and she laughs. Right there in his face she laughs.
This is the male she had been afraid of?
This is the male that tortured her everyday in that basement? This pathetic excuse of a male.
“Absolutely pathetic,” she spits, snarling at him.
She drops Truth Teller from her hand, falling somewhere between their bodies as she grips his head on either side. “Look at me!” She bellows, forcing his eyes to meet hers. Panicked terror looked back at her and she smiled.
“Kill me, just kill me, please!” He begged, thrashing under her, her wings spreading to keep herself stead where she was crouched over him—drowning out the voices beyond the shield. He’d had no remorse for anyone else, he deserved no remorse. She leans down, close to his ear, changing her grip on his head.
“No,” she mouths against his ear as it echoes in his head. Then her thumbs are pressing into those black soulless eyes, his screams echoing around them with nowhere to go, pressing and pressing until they pop. Turning into a bloody mess under her hands. His screams don’t stop as she speaks.
“You’ll never see again,” she said, grabbing Truth Teller once again sliding it along his exposed skin. “You're lucky I don’t take your hands and tongue. I won’t take your life either. You’ll suffer the way me and so many other girls did.”
She slides off of him, his screams turning into whimpering cries.
“Cassandra?” The voice sounded normal again and she looked up, green eyes meeting violet. “Are you okay?”
“Am I okay?” She asked, glancing at the man she had just maimed without a second thought.
“I’m not worried about him, are you okay?” Rhysand asks again, taking a step closer to her.
“I’m okay,” she nods, slipping Truth Teller back into its sheath, not hiding the angry tears that welled in her eyes. “I want him to have to live with what he’s done. Death will be too kind for the offenses he’s committed—for the way he’s violated so many.”
“If you no longer wish death on this male so be it, we will lock him away to rot for the rest of his days,” Rhysand promises and I nod my head.
“I only have one request,” I tell him, glancing at the man still moaning and whimpering—whispering to himself about his eyes being gone and begging for mercy.
“What is it?” Rhysand asked.
“Take his cock,” I demand, there’s no question or judgement in those eyes. He nods but Azriel is the one to speak up.
“Done.”

She runs her fingers over the rim of the glass, leaning on a hand as she waits. She licks her lips, fixing her dress a bit before looking up when she feels a presence sitting next to her. Her eyes move to the person, a very handsome man, military, mustached with beautiful brown eyes still wearing his uniform.
Beatrice sips her drink but lets her gaze drink him over, then moves away when he looks back at her “Evenin’.” he says, his accent so nice and thick, “What’s a pretty woman like you doin’ here all alone?”
She sips her drink, “Enjoying the sights.” she whispers, flipping her hair to the side, exposing her shoulder - something that makes his gaze drop to the curve - “Enjoying a quiet night, you?”
“Celebrating.” he smirks, sipping his whisky, “Just got promoted.”
“Oh, congrats.” she smiles, “You must be very good at what you do.”
He keeps the glass against his lips, eyes burning with desire, “I am.” he says before setting it down, “...what’s your name,gorgeous?”
“Beatrice.”
“Beautiful name,” he says, holding out his hand, “Bradley, my friends call me Rooster.” her cheeks turn pink when he lifts her knuckles to his full lips, kissing them gently, “And…you said you were enjoying the sights?”
“Yeah.” she says while placing her hand back on her lap, “I…it’s been a while since I went out and –” she frowns, “Roos I’m running out of banter.”
This idea happened minutes after they decided to go home, after Bea’s parents said they’d keep the kids for the night and they could ‘celebrate’ how they wished. While thinking about it, they thought about roleplaying as if they had just met in a random bar - not the Hard Deck - and it was a great idea…until she ran a blank. Her husband blinked, “You were doing great,gorgeous.” he smiles at her frown, “I’m serious, it was very attractive.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, of course.” he smirks, folding his arms over the counter, his white jacket stretching over his bicep and Bea noticed it. “Unless you aren’t comfortable doing this anymore–?”
“No,no! I…”she licks her lips ,”I do want to try–I didn’t know you liked this type of stuff,Roos.”
Rooster chuckled softly, "Well, you never know what hidden talents I might have," he teased, his voice low and playful.
Beatrice rolled her eyes, a smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "Oh, I'm sure you have plenty of hidden talents," she replied, her tone teasing. She could try again,right?
Rooster's smirk widened as he leaned in closer to Beatrice, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Care to find out?" he murmured, his breath warm against her ear.
Beatrice's cheeks flushed pink at Rooster's suggestive tone, her heart fluttering in her chest. She leaned back slightly, trying to maintain a semblance of composure. "Maybe later," she replied, her voice slightly breathless.
Rooster's eyes danced with amusement as he pulled back, his smirk still firmly in place. "I'll hold you to that, beautiful" he said, his tone playful.
They sat in comfortable silence for a moment, the tension between them palpable. Beatrice took a sip of her drink, her mind racing with thoughts of what the night might hold.
"So, Beatrice," Rooster said, breaking the silence, "Tell me more about yourself. What do you do for a living?"
Beatrice cleared her throat, trying to remember the persona they had created for her character. "Oh, you know," she said, trying to sound casual, "Just your average bartender. Nothing too exciting."
Rooster raised an eyebrow, a knowing smile playing on his lips. "I don't believe that for a second," he replied, his voice low and teasing. "There's something about you, Beatrice. Something... intriguing."
Beatrice felt a shiver run down her spine at Rooster's words, his gaze intense and penetrating. She shifted uncomfortably in her seat, suddenly feeling very exposed under his scrutiny.
Dear god she was already wet.
Rooster leaned in closer, his voice dropping to a whisper. "Tell me, Beatrice," he murmured, his breath warm against her ear, "What's your deepest, darkest secret?"
Beatrice's heart pounded in her chest, her breath catching in her throat. She opened her mouth to reply, but no words came out. She felt a bead of sweat form on her brow as she struggled to come up with a response.
Rooster's smirk widened as he watched Beatrice squirm under his gaze. Just as Beatrice was about to reply, they were interrupted by the sound of someone clearing their throat. They both turned to see a waitress standing nearby, a curious expression on her face.
"Can I get you two anything else?"
Beatrice glanced at Rooster, her cheeks flushing pink. "Um, no thank you," she replied, her voice slightly shaky. "We're good for now."
The waitress nodded, a knowing smile tugging at the corners of her lips. "Alright then," she said, turning to leave, "Just let me know if you need anything else."
As soon as the waitress was out of earshot, Beatrice let out a shaky breath, her hands trembling slightly. "That was close," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper.
Rooster chuckled softly, reaching out to squeeze her hand gently. "Yeah, it was," he replied, his voice warm with amusement. "But don't worry, still doing fine.” her panties, however,were about to be absolutely ruined.
“Thank you…sooo…” she licks her lips, “You are a Lt.Commander now,yes?  And a pilot for the Navy.” he smirks in triumph, oh he loved that she wanted to keep this going, “What..what does that do? I have no idea how the Navy works.”
Rooster chuckled softly at Beatrice's question,"Well, as a Lieutenant Commander," Rooster began, his voice rolling inside her ears like honey, "I hold a senior rank in the Navy, just below the rank of Commander. I oversee the operations of my squadron and ensure that our missions are carried out successfully."
Beatrice nodded, her brows furrowing in concentration as she tried to grasp the concept. "So, you're like... the boss of your squadron?" she asked, seeking clarification.
Rooster grinned, pleased that Beatrice was trying to understand, his cheeks hurting from smiling so much. "Exactly," he replied, nodding. "I'm responsible for leading and guiding my team, making sure that everyone is working together towards our common goals. And as a pilot for the Navy, well... I fly missions to support our military objectives, whether it's reconnaissance, combat, or transport missions."
Beatrice's eyes widened with interest as Rooster spoke, her curiosity piqued. "That sounds... intense," she remarked, her voice filled with awe. "I can't imagine what it's like to fly a military aircraft."
Rooster chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. "It can be pretty exhilarating," he admitted, a hint of excitement in his voice. "But it's also a lot of hard work and dedication. The training is rigorous, and the missions can be dangerous, but it's all worth it.”
“I see.” she licks her lips, still playing it off as if they had just met, “So you fly, you command…that’s pretty…interesting.”
Oh he loved how red her cheeks were.
“Oh?” he sips his drink, “Care to elaborate?”
Beatrice felt her cheeks grow even warmer under Rooster's gaze, his playful smirk sending shivers down her spine. She cleared her throat, trying to gather her thoughts as she met his gaze. "Well," she began, her voice slightly shaky, "I just find it fascinating how you balance both roles. Flying planes and leading a squadron, it's like... you're living two lives at once."
Rooster's smirk widened into a grin at Beatrice's observation. "You could say that," he replied, his voice tinged with amusement. "It definitely keeps me on my toes, that's for sure. But I wouldn't have it any other way."
Beatrice nodded, her lips curving into a small smile. "I can imagine," she said, her voice filled with admiration. "It takes a special kind of person to handle that level of responsibility."
Rooster's grin softened into a smile, his eyes warm as he looked at Beatrice. "Thank you," he said sincerely, "It means a lot coming from you."
She felt her heart flutter at Rooster's words, her cheeks flushing pink once again. She ducked her head, unable to meet his gaze as she tried to compose herself. "So," she said, clearing her throat, "What made you want to become a pilot in the Navy? Was it something you always dreamed of?"
"Actually, yes," he admitted, "I had always known that I wanted to be a pilot. I was drawn to the Navy because of my father," Rooster explained, "He served in the Navy for many years, and I always looked up to him. I wanted to follow in his footsteps, to honor his legacy."
"But it wasn't until I went through flight training that I truly fell in love with flying," Rooster continued, excitement in his voice. "There's just something about being up in the air, feeling the wind beneath your wings... it's like nothing else in the world."
Beatrice smiled, her eyes shining and for a second she almost forgot they were roleplaying right now. "It sounds amazing," she said softly, her voice filled with warmth. "I'm glad you found something that brings you so much joy."
Rooster's smile softened, his gaze lingering on Beatrice's face. "Me too," he murmured, his voice barely above a whisper. "And what about you? What can I find out about you,hm?”
Beatrice felt a rush of nervous excitement at Rooster's question. She hadn't expected him to turn the conversation back to her, so quickly "Well," she began, her voice hesitant, "I'm not nearly as exciting as you, I'm afraid. I work as a bartender in a nice military bar not far from here. It's not as glamorous as flying planes or leading a squadron, but I enjoy it."
Rooster's smile widened as Beatrice spoke, his eyes lighting up as he spun his glass in its axis. "Bartending, huh?" he said, his voice laced with curiosity. "I bet you have some interesting stories to tell."
Beatrice chuckled softly,"Oh, you have no idea," she replied, "Let's just say, working in a military bar definitely keeps things interesting."
Rooster leaned in closer, his interest piqued. "I'd love to hear some of those stories," he said eagerly, "But only if you're comfortable sharing, of course."
Beatrice smiled at Rooster's, her whole body was warm, painfully so. "I'd be happy to," she said, her voice remained soft. "But fair warning, some of them might be a little... wild."
Rooster grinned, leaning on his hand. "I can handle wild," he replied, his voice laced with something else . "So, tell me, what's the craziest thing that's ever happened to you while bartending?"
Beatrice laughed softly,  "Well, there was this one time," she began, her voice tinged with amusement. "We were hosting a party for one of the officers, and things got a little out of hand."
"Go on,”
“And, there was this one guy,” she flicked her gaze towards him, his smile widening immediately, after all…she was talking about him. “He was a friend of the birthday officer…so he,walked in, sat down on a piano we had on the bar…and started playing.” honestly he was surprised Payback remembered anything from that night, hammered up as he was ,”A very, very nice song.”
“He seems like a fun guy.”
She smiles, gently, cheeks reddening, “...he’s the best guy.”
"Well, I try my best," he replied with a sheepish grin, breaking the roleplaying with his blush "But I'm sure I'm nowhere near as good as you make me out to be."
Beatrice chuckled softly, shaking her head in amusement. "Oh, I don't know about that," she teased, her voice light and playful. "You're pretty amazing in my book."
Rooster's smile widened at Beatrice's words, his heart swelling with love for her. He reached out to take her hand in his, his touch gentle and reassuring. "Thank you, gorgeous" he murmured, his voice soft but filled with sincerity. "That means a lot coming from you."
They sat in comfortable silence for a moment, lost in each other's gaze. The air between them was charged with unspoken emotions, and Rooster found himself wanting to lean in closer, to feel Beatrice's lips against his own.
The night is still young after all.
“So…tell me.” he rubs her fingers, “...what do you think about getting out of here?”
“...are you proposing something?” she asks with a little smile, “What would that be I wonder?”
Rooster's smile widened  "Well, I was thinking," he began, his voice low and teasing, "We could go for a walk along the beach. Just the two of us, with nothing but the sound of the waves and the stars above us."
“Hmmmm…that sounds amazing," she replied, leaning closer to him, eyelids dropping just enough. "I'd love to."
Rooster stood up from the table, offering Beatrice his hand. "Shall we?"
Beatrice smiled up at Rooster, her heart fluttering. She took his hand in hers, allowing him to lead her out of the bar and towards the beach. The cool night air felt refreshing against her skin, and the sound of the waves crashing against the shore was soothing to her ears.
As they walked along the beach, hand in hand, Beatrice leaned into Rooster's side, reveling in the warmth of his touch as they strolled along the shoreline.The moon cast a soft glow over the beach, illuminating their path as they walked. Beatrice glanced up at the sky, the stars twinkling brightly overhead.
 It was a picture-perfect moment, one she wished could last forever.
Rooster squeezed Beatrice's hand gently, his eyes warm as he looked at her. "You know," he began, his voice soft but filled with sincerity, "I feel like the luckiest man in the world, being here with you."
Beatrice felt her heart swell with love at Rooster's words. She looked up at him, her eyes shining "I feel the same way," she murmured, her voice barely above a whisper. "Being with you makes everything feel right."
Rooster smiled down at Beatrice, his heart overflowing with love for her. He leaned in closer, pressing a tender kiss to her forehead. "I love you," he whispered, his voice filled with emotion. "More than anything in this world."
She wrapped her arms around him, holding him close as she pressed her cheek against his chest. "I love you too," she whispered, her voice choked with emotion. "More than you'll ever know."
Eventually, they continued their walk along the beach, their footsteps leaving imprints in the sand behind them. As they reached the end of the beach, Rooster stopped and turned to face Beatrice. "Beatrice," he began, his voice soft, "There's something I want to ask you."
Beatrice's heart skipped a beat at Rooster's serious tone. She looked up at him, her eyes wide with anticipation. "What is it?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
“How would you like…to go to the second round tonight?”
Her eyebrow arched up
“...but you have to promise me,” he smirks, “You won’t freak out.”
She blinked at him,waiting for more but when nothing came she parted her lips, “...why would I freak out?” he smirks more, “...Rooster why would I freak out?”
He licks his lips, “...do you remember when we got into the base when we dated?” There was a very loud pause. “Rooster.” she begins, “...what did you do?”

Open Your Heart, Part 1
Mob!Bucky Barnes x Female OC
Word Count: 3,299
This first chapter is so long omg.
This first chapter has no warnings. Future chapters will include the following; Cursing, mentions of abuse, violence, weapons, smut, angst, fluff.. I will add more as needed!
Kind of a summary? Idk. I’m still thinking.
‘Arranged marriages are never easy. This one is no exception. Both sides will have to relearn their ways, and learn to trust each other. Bucky has all the love to give, but Katherine doesn’t know how to accept real love. She’s never been loved by anyone other than her best friend. Will she learn to open her heart, to New Yorks most notorious Mob Boss? Or is she too scared, that he’s just like everyone else?’
A/N; This is my FIRST Bucky story. As well as my first AU story. If this first part does well, I’ll keep on going. I’m incredibly beyond nervous about this. Constructive criticism welcome, but please be nice. Please re-post and comment :)
I do NOT give permission for my work to be copied and posted on here or any other site, even if you give me credit. PLEASE just reblog if you want to share my story!!
Will happily start a tag list if anyone is interested!
✨Part 2 here✨
Tumblr media
“Yeah, it’s getting pretty chilly out.”
Katherine tossed her keys onto her dresser as she held the phone between her ear and shoulder, flipping through the stack of mail in her hands.
“Perfect night for a book and hot chocolate.”
Katherine chuckled softly, “Sage, do you ever really need an excuse to do that?”
She could hear laughter on the other side of the phone, “Not really. But it’s the aesthetic!”
She rolled her eyes at her friend, humming softly as she sorted a few bills, until her eyes landed on an envelope that stood out. It was a deep, blood red color with a silver wax seal on it. Her name was written on it, so she didn’t hesitate to open it.
“Anything interesting?”
She hummed in response, “Possibly..”
Her fingers gently tugged the paper out from the envelope, her curiosity spiking. She unfolded the paper, and her eyes soon began to go over the words.
“Oh my god,” she gasped softly, a bit breathless, “Its him.. It’s a letter from HIM!”
As soon as she got the words out, her phone began chiming in her ear, signaling that Sage was converting the call to a video call. Katherine answered it, and propped the phone up on her dresser.
“Well, what did he say?” Sage looked at her curiously, “Its about the wedding, right?”
Katherine looked at the letter, and let out a soft breath.
“It says..”
“My Dearest Katherine,
I know that we’ve both been waiting for this moment, at least.. I know that I have. I wanted to give you the space you deserve, and to not rush you. If you’re ready for me, I’m here, and I’d like for you to come stay with me. I’ll take care of anything you need, or want, to make this transition easier and more comfortable. Just let me know when you’re ready.
Sincerely yours,
James Buchanan Barnes
My number: xxx-xxx-xxxx”
Both girls were silent for a moment. Katherine’s thoughts were overwhelmed by excitement, the moment she’d been waiting for was finally here.. While Sages thoughts were quite the opposite.
“The mob boss Bucky Barnes?!” Sage exclaimed, finally processing the words from the letter. “YOU'RE MARRYING A MOB BOSS?”
“Seems so..” Katherine grabbed the phone, and immediately put the number in, sending him a text.
“I don’t know Katie, this is.. Are you sure? You’ve heard all of the stories..”
Katherine rolled her eyes, “I can’t break the deal. It’s not mine to negotiate anyways..” she let out a soft sigh, “I know. I remember them, we’ve all heard the stories..”
Sage let out a long breath, worry written all over her face, “Well.. When do you think you want to go? I’m sure he’d understand if you wanted more time.”
Katherine bit the inside of her cheek, having already received a few text messages from him, “In a few hours.”
Sages face fell, “What?”
“He’s sending a driver over at 3,” She began moving around her room, and began the process of packing, “It’s not like I have much to pack anyways.”
“You already texted him? Katherine-“
Katherine shook her head, cutting her off, “You know how long I’ve been waiting for this. Yes, it’s.. Interesting.. Who he turned out to be.. But this is still my only chance to get out… A chance to be happy.”
As much as Sage wanted to argue, disagree, and try to talk her out of it.. She knew that she was right.
“If he can make you happy..” Sage let out a soft sigh, before a smile spread on her lips, “Make sure to tell me everything! I want to know what he’s like, what his house is like! I’ve heard it’s a huge mansion..”
As Sage began to go on and on about all the different rumors they’ve all heard about him, Katherine’s mind was occupied with other thoughts.
I hope I don’t disappoint him.
If I just keep my head down, and listen, I’m sure it’ll be fine.
I wonder if he’ll like me..
Will we be happy together?
“I bet the arm thing isn’t real. You know how mobs like to spread stories to scare people.”
Sage's last words made Katherine chuckle, “I suppose I’ll be finding out which rumors are true or not, hmm?”
“Yeah, you’ll have to let me know if his eyes are really that blue.” Sage let out a soft dreamy sigh, “I wonder what he really looks like. It seems to depend on who you ask.”
Katherine hummed softly, imagining the man as she packed, “Yeah, if they’re on his good side, or his bad side.”
Both girls chuckled a bit, continuing to talk about all the different possibilities that might happen. Katherine continued packing as they spoke, finding that she really didn’t have much to pack. She didn’t have many clothes, most of it being her work uniforms. A couple pairs of jeans, a few t-shirts (All of which had something to do with music), a single long sleeved shirt, and her oversized nightshirts. She only had three pairs of shoes; A pair of purple converse sneakers (which were on her feet), her black combat boots, and her work shoes. Thankfully, she still had her black dress and heels from when Sage forced her to get them. She could still hear Sages words from that day, ‘This dress would look killer on you, your curves will pop, and drive any man crazy!’ She had only tried the dress on once, never having an occasion to wear it. So, including the heels, she actually had four pairs of shoes.
Great.
A loud knock on the front door made both girls fall silent, but Sage was quick to realize.
“It’s three..”
Katherine sucked in a breath, nodding her head, “Okay… Okay. I’ll talk to you later, I promise!”
Sage sighed, nodding her head, “You’d better.. I’ll send a search party! Don’t forget your art bag!”
The call ended after the both girls said ‘I love you’, and Katherine made a beeline to the front door, bags in hand. She opened it to find a man, a bit older than her, with a nice suit on.
He offered a small smile, “Miss Connors?”
She nodded her head, “Yes sir.” Returning the smile, before realizing..
Dad.
She let out a soft sigh, “I have to do something really quick, then I’m ready.”
The man nodded his head, and reached for her bags, “I’ll take these, and meet you at the car.”
She turned on her heel, walking through the house. Her father was passed out in his recliner in the living room, a beer threatening to fall from his hand and onto the floor. Shaking her head at the sight, she decided to just leave him a note, instead of waking him.
‘Mr. Barnes finally reached out.
I accepted.
That’s where I’ll be when you wake up.’
She placed the note in front of the television, before walking back through the house. Grabbing her leather jacket, and her ‘art’ bag as Sage called it, she went out the front door. The man at the car gave her another smile, opening the back door for her. As she stepped in, she took one last look at the house, before nodding to herself and letting the man close the door.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The car ride was silent for the most part, the man asking her a few times if she was alright or if she needed anything. New York City seemed to disappear behind them as they went, the drive lasting about 20 minutes. Katherine’s eyes widened as the car rolled to a stop.. He really did have a mansion.
“Alright Miss. Connors.” The man got out of the car, as her eyes observed the large home. It was old, Victorian era old. Equal parts elegant, beautiful, and creepy. The driver, whom she had learned to be Joe, opened her door for her, offering a warm smile. She got out, and was greeted by a crisp breeze. She was glad to have her leather jacket on.
“Thanks for the ride.” She said to him, a small grin on her lips as she grabbed her bags.
“Anytime, ma’am. Mr. Barnes is my favorite client.”
She gave him a small nod before turning to walk towards the house. As she walked up the front steps,, the nerves finally began to break through. She took in a deep breath as she raised her fisted hand to knock, but the door opened in front of her, startling her.
“You must be Katherine!” An older woman, probably in her late 50s or so, gave her a wide grin.
“Yes ma’am, that’s me.” She returned the grin, trying to conceal her nerves.
“Come in, come in…” The woman motioned her inside, and as she stepped in, she closed the door. “I’m Annette, one of Mr. Barnes housekeepers.”
Katherine’s eyes wandered around the entryway, “It’s nice to meet you.”
Annette stood there, silent for a moment. As if she were allowing Katherine to study the home. “Mr. Barnes is currently in a meeting, so I’ll show you to your room!”
Katherine gave her a small smile, nodding her head to the woman. She followed along behind her, looking around as they went. It was pretty modern inside, compared to the old style of the outside. The first room was huge; a long fireplace along the far wall. It seemed to have been set up to hold guests, maybe for meetings or get-togethers. There were staircases on either side of the room, and they started the descent up the left side. Once at the top, she realized that both sides met on the same floor. There didn’t seem to be much personal touch in the home; No family photos in sight.
“Here we are, the last door on the left. The room on the right is an office area that he never uses, the other door on the left is another entrance into your bathroom. I usually keep it locked.”
Katherine blinked a few times, before hesitantly opening the door to the bedroom.. her eyes widened once again, seeing how large it was. It was almost like a suite at a hotel; having a lounge area with a couch, recliner and television. A wall separated that space from an area with a ginormous bed. It must’ve been a California king, she’d never seen a bed so large. As she walked around, Annette came in as well, opening the curtains.
“This door here is your closet,” she said as she turned the knob, revealing a walk in closet. “And over here is your bathroom.”
Katherine was shocked, her eyes trying to take in the massive space, “A-And this room… Is mine?”
Annette let out a soft chuckle, “Yes dear.”
Confusion then came across Katherine’s face, realizing that she and her future husband had separate rooms. Annette must’ve noticed this, because she offered a kind smile.
“Mr. Barnes is a good man, Katherine. He wanted you to have your own space, he didn’t want to pressure you into anything until you were ready.”
Katherine nodded slowly, setting her bags down on the foot of the bed- Her bed. She gave Annette a big grin, when the initial shock had finally subsided. She let out a giggle, doing a twirl as she took one long look at the room. Annette chuckled softly, watching the woman.
“It was overwhelming to me too, back in the day. I’d never seen such spacious rooms.” She shrugged her shoulders.
Katherine let out a long sigh, a smile tugging at her lips, “This is.. It is a lot. This room is half the size of my house!”
Both women chuckled for a moment, until there was a knock at the door. Katherine’s eyes moved to look at who it was, somehow knowing that it wasn’t him. A tall man leaned in the doorway, golden blonde hair that went just past his ears, and a neat beard on his face.
“Mr. Rogers.” Annette nodded her head toward him, giving him a small smile.
“Annette,” he returned the smile, then his eyes landed on Katherine, “So you’re the one who’s marrying my best friend.”
Katherine’s nerves slowly creeped their way back into her mind, nodding her head silently. She wasn’t sure what to say, her eyes flickering between the man and Annette.
He walked towards her, extending a hand, “I’m Steve.” He gave her a warm grin, and it helped settle her silly nerves.
“It’s nice to meet you,” she said, taking his hand and shaking it.
“I hope you’re finding everything to your liking. Buck sent me to extend his apologies, his meetings running later than expected.” Steve let out a soft sigh as their hands fell, “He wanted to greet you when you arrived.”
Katherine nodded her head, running a hand through her long brown hair, “It’s alright, I understand.” She shrugged, though secretly she was quite anxious and excited to finally set her eyes on him.
Steve’s eyes wandered around the room, before settling on her bags, “Are there more bags downstairs? I can go get them if you’d like.”
Katherine was slightly embarrassed, “Oh, uhm.. No.. That’s all I’ve got.”
Silent words seemed to be exchanged, Steve understanding the expression on her face. Katherine didn’t want to have to explain to anyone that she was dirt poor and didn’t have many possessions. Steve didn’t seem to want to press the issue.
“Well, I’ve got to get back to work. I’ll see you around dear! Steve will take good care of you.” Annette gave them both a smile, before leaving the room.
Katherine let out a breath, before making a clicking sound with her tongue, “Welp,” she moved to start unpacking her bags, “I s’pose I’ll start unpacking while I wait.” She shrugged her shoulders, before letting out a soft chuckle. Her phone was going off in her pocket, and she knew who it was. She pulled the device out, to see text messages from Sage.
‘Everything good?’
‘Are you there yet??’
‘KATIE’
‘…Has he swooped you off your feet yet?’
‘DETAILS WOMAN!’
Katherine laughed, reading the messages. Steve quirked an eyebrow curiously, wondering what was going on. She looked over to him as she texted Sage back.
‘I haven’t met him yet! Just settling into my room. I’ll video call you before bed!’
“Oh, it’s just my best friend chomping at the bit. Sage is a very protective friend, and if I don’t answer, I’m sure she’d manage to find out where I am.”
Steve let out a soft chuckle, nodding his head, “Oh, I understand that.”
Katherine hummed softly, “I’m sure she’d like to see where I’m living now.. Do you think he’d be alright if she came over some time?” She looked at Steve, wondering what he thought. But Steve’s eyes were now on his own phone.
“You can ask him yourself,” he said, sliding the device back into his pocket, “He’s out of his meeting, and would like for me to escort you to his office.”
Katherine nodded her head slowly, “Uhm, then lead the way.”
Steve gave her a smile, before doing just that. He led her down the hallway, and back down the staircase. Her fingers began fumbling with the hem of her shirt, ‘The Andrews Sisters’ logo quite faded on the front of the old clothing. As she followed him through the house, her anxiety came creeping back into her mind. Thoughts of her mysterious suitor flooded her brain, wondering what their first interaction might be like. She was lost in her thoughts as Steve led her into a room, her eyes wandering around as she observed the new area. There were bookcases covering the walls, hundreds of books filling them. She smiled, looking at all the old covers. She could’ve sworn she had spotted an old copy of ‘Great Tales and Poems of Edgar Allen Poe’.
“Katherine?”
Her eyes snapped to where she had heard her name, and the nerves turned into butterflies in the pit of her stomach. Standing before her, leaning against a large wooden desk, was a man. Probably the most attractive man she’d ever laid eyes on. He had dark hair, a quiff of dark locks settled at the top. His eyes were an icy Blue, staring into her hazel brown orbs. He had quite the jawline, a short beard covering it. His arms were crossed against his chest, one of which seemed to reflect the light from the ceiling..
“H-Hi.” Was all she managed to squeak out, her eyes transfixed on him.
“It’s nice to finally meet you,” he took a few long strides across the room, extending his flesh hand to her, “Bucky.” He flashed a toothy smile, and she felt her heart flutter.
It was him.
She took his hand, hoping he didn’t notice that hers was shaking. He gently clasped both of his hands around her much smaller one, the metal of his fingers sending a chill up her arm.
“You have a really lovely home.” She mentally scolded herself, knowing those weren’t her first choice of words.
He let out a hearty chuckle, holding onto her hand gently, “Thank you. It’s yours now, too, you know.”
She nodded her head, realizing how much closer he was to her now. She could see his dark eyelashes flutter as he watched her. She slowly retracted her hand, suddenly feeling quite self conscious. She wrapped her arms around her middle, wanting to hide herself from his piercing eyes. He seemed to notice her hesitance, taking a step back from her. They were both silent for a moment, Steve watching the awkward interaction. Her eyes began to wander again, fixating on all the books in the room.
“Do you like to read?” He asked, giving her a small smile.
Katherine’s eyes glanced towards him, getting captured by his icy orbs once more, “I do.” She returned the sweet smile.
“You’re more than welcome to any of them. I have more in the basement library.” He hummed softly, “Please feel free to explore. What’s mine, is now yours.”
She gave him a slow nod, the smile still spread across her lips, as she began to walk around the room. She walked up to one of the large bookcases, her fingers lifting to gently brush across the spines of a few books. She hummed softly, her eyes scanning over the different books. Bucky silently followed her, watching as she admired them. He glanced at Steve, who gave him a reassuring smile.
“I’m happy to collect more, if you think of any we should add to the collection.” He said to her, trying to ease her nerves. He didn’t want her to feel uncomfortable, regardless of the odd situation.
“Duly noted.” She turned towards him, a slight blush crawling onto her cheeks as she realized.. While she was studying the books, he was studying her.
“Uh, are you hungry?” He gave her a side grin, “Steve and I usually go to this pizza place out on 6th, every Thursday.”
Katherine let out a soft laugh, “Pizza sounds great.”
Bucky clapped his hands together, “Then it’s settled. Steve, can you pull the car around?”
Steve nodded his head, “Yep.”
Katherine smiled to Bucky, “What are your favorite toppings? I’m a meat lover myself.”
Bucky’s lips spread wide on his face, “Me too. With the garlic sauce on the crust.”
Katherine’s nerves were slowly fading, “Extra cheese?”
Bucky chuckled, motioning for them to leave the room, “Doll, I have a feeling this’ll be much easier than either of us realized.”
“As long as you don’t put anchovies on anything, I think we’ll be set.”
They both began to laugh, all the nerves and awkwardness fading behind them.
Sylus X Evie (OC)
Logically, throwing my phone at the wall will not fix it.
Emotionally, however, it will make me feel better.
But a broken phone means I won’t be able to listen to the audiobook I purchased the other day, if I can even get it to work. It was playing just fine at home, but now that I’m at the base, it’s been refusing to load. Or rather, it’s loading, but the audio isn’t working.
I let out a long, deep exhale and close my eyes for a moment, trying to summon the patience not to crush my phone between my hands - not that I’m strong enough to do such a thing. I should have given up several minutes ago. Listening to a spicy audio book isn’t necessary to get my work done, but it sure would make the mind numbing list of tasks I had to do today easier.
At least the scenery is different tonight. Instead of my office at the base, my paperwork and I are occupying the large kitchen counter of Sylus’ private suite in the hotel. His hotel, where an important meeting is currently taking place. It’s not very often that I skip out on a meeting, but from time to time, the boss will ask me to hang back. This is one of those times.
The sound of the front door opening and closing has me looking over my shoulder. Sylus strolls languidly into the kitchen, his black ‘Boss Man’ jacket hanging off his shoulders. His expression is calmly neutral, not a hint of a clue as to how the meeting went.
I put my phone screen-side down on the marble counter and give him my undivided attention. “Welcome back, Sir. How did it go?”
“As expected. I refused his offer.”
I nod my head in understanding. Even over the phone, while I was arranging the meeting last week, the other party sounded kinda fishy. “I’m sorry it went that way, Sir. Hopefully the next one will be worth your while.”
Sylus tilts his head, a playful smile pulling at his lips. “You know, something rather interesting happened during the meeting. It was right at the crux of it, too.”
I twist in the stool until I’m facing him completely. “Oooh, there’s tea.”
“My phone pinged as if it had synced up to something. Then, a man’s voice came through the speaker. He was saying some rather… explicit things.” He taps his finger against his temple. “You wouldn’t happen to know anything about that, would you, Evie?”
I blink up at him. Feel the blood drain from my face. Reach behind me for my phone. “Can’t say that I do, Sir.”
“No? But it sounded so much like those novels you love so much.” Sylus grips the edge of the counter on either side of me, heat warming his eyes. “I didn’t realize you enjoyed listening to those scenes, too.”
Fuck. Fuck.
I swallow and pretend I don’t want to throw myself out the window at this very moment. I don’t think the janitorial staff would appreciate having to clean my guts off the sidewalk. “He just has a nice voice, that’s all.”
That only makes him more amused. “Oh, so it’s his voice you like.” Sylus leans in closer, and I shiver as his breath tickles my ear. “And here I thought you preferred mine.”
My thighs squeeze together on their own accord. Sylus’ voice is perfection. It’s deep and makes my stomach do flips, a wonderful mix of velvety and husky and makes my heart race against itself.
I subconsciously lick my lips, and his eyes track the movement. “I do prefer your voice, Sir.”
With a hum, he pulls back a little and looks at me. He doesn’t drop the cage that is his arms, though. His gaze flicks down for a moment, smirk growing when he realizes what kind of reaction he’s getting. My breath hitches, heart starting to pound.
“That makes me very happy, sweetie.” He tucks a lock of hair behind my ear, trails his fingers down my cheek. “Stories are nice, but if you want to hear such naughty things, then you don’t need to turn to someone else to have those needs met.”
I can’t help but squirm, my body’s natural reaction to the whirlwind of feelings rushing through me. “L-Like what?”
Sylus chuckles and moves his hand to my chin, angling my head to bring me closer to his lips. “Like how tempting you are when you show me those eyes. It makes me want to strip you down and ruin you.”
Lust makes my eyelids grow heavy. “Go on.”
He smiles and traces my lips with his thumb. “I’ll start slow. Tease you with my lips and fingers until you’re begging for me in that pretty voice of yours.”
I sink my teeth into my lower lip, trying to suppress the moan bubbling on the tip of my tongue. The imagery his words bring is delightful.
“Then, I’ll take my time tasting every single inch of you. I won’t stop until I find the sweetest spot.” Sylus draws a slow line down my chest, working his way to my stomach. “And when I find that spot, I’ll keep going until you come.”
I’m panting now, my jeans suddenly too tight. A dull pulse starts in the pit of my stomach, one I recognize well.
Sylus keeps going with the verbal torture, dragging his finger down past my belly button, being ever careful with my piercing. “And only after you’ve come for me like a good girl, will I give you the rest of me. I’ll satisfy you so deeply, you’ll think of me when you pick up a book again.”
This time, I can’t stop the moan. My voice is breathy and shaky when I regain enough sanity to respond. “I-It sounds like you’ll be walking away with a lot of scratches, Sir.”
He lifts my hand to his mouth and presses a light kiss to the back of it. “From you, kitten, scratches are a prize.” Hands dipping beneath my thighs, Sylus lifts me from the stool and sets me right on the counter.
I squeak, but don’t fight him. “B-But, your other meetings-”
“Can wait.” He cuts me off, eyes narrowing as he helps me discard my jeans. “I’m in the mood for a feast right now.”
Welcome to Ky of Sonder's Eicenrell Archives!
Like the description says, this is a side blog for @kyofsonder that's specifically focused on my writing. While I enjoy mixing my writing work with more passive reblogging and not-fiction-related personal posts on my main blog, it can get frustrating not having a central archive of the stories/poems/writeblr things I've posted to Tumblr. To solve this problem and give readers a place to just easily rad what they want from my works, I've created this archive.
There's no requirement to follow my main blog in order to follow this one, and I couldn't enforce it if there was. It's also perfectly fine to address writeblr ask and tag games here, but know that if you ask anything that's not writing related I'll answer it on my main blog (or another side blog if I make others).
Content Notice:
All writing will have content warnings where applicable, if I ever forget or if a reader has a specific thing they would like included in these warnings (ex: I don't think birds need a warning, but someone with a phobia of them might prefer bracing themself before reading descriptions of them) please send an ask or message and I will fo my best to add it to my warnings in the future.
Commission Info:
I'm currently rebuilding my writing habits and haven't had time to do research on standard commission rates, but I'm open to taking a commission or two from those willing to discuss price in messages until proper rates and slots can be decided. Thank you for your patience, and please reach out if you are also willing to be patient about price negotiations.
Tag System:
Spoons providing, I tag my work for organization purposes first and give my thoughts in the tags after. These tags include
sonder stories - all prose, including any asks or tags involving prose, and OC development
sonder songs - all poems and lyrics, including any asks or tags involving poetry, and poetry development
sonder solos - all prose created/assisted by playing solo TTRPGs involving mechanics like flipping over playing cards, rolling dice, drawing straws, etc.
Midnight Snack
Premise: Sienna shares a midnight rendezvous with an unlikely companion.
Book: Open Heart (post series) Pairing: Sienna Trinh x Max Valentine (M!OC); feat. Robert Valentine (OC) Rating/Category: General. Fluff Words: 1,315
A/N: I want to explore various platonic relationships in the OH world that I’ve created. I don’t think it will be a formal series, more like a collection. At this stage, my fics and characters while inspired by canon are 80% original. I want to take advantage of that to write different types of stories.
Submission for @choicesaugustchallenge Day 29 prompt “Birthday Cake”. This takes place after the events of Sibling Rivalry. I am also using a pregnancy prompt (the first one is always an adventure) from @creativepromptsforwriting and sharing for reblog to @creativepromptfills
Tumblr media
It was almost one o’clock in the morning when Sienna Valentine (née Trinh) awakened to the tightness in her abdomen. Right on schedule, she thought absently, cradling her pregnant belly.
Their little bean enjoyed performing somersaults in the middle of the night as if her body was his playground. She wondered if he would be a night owl after birth as well. Or an early morning riser like his parents.
She was nestled against her husband’s shoulder, his chest rising and falling evenly in sleep. Sienna remembered falling asleep, his arms loosely wrapped around her, listening to his heartbeat. And they were still there.
She glanced out the window, expecting to see the night sky outside, bright from the city lights. And then she remembered they were spending the night at his parents’ house in Arlington for Max and Cassie’s birthday celebration. And this neighborhood was quiet after dark.
Once upon a time, this had been Max’s bedroom during high school. But he hadn’t lived in this house for a long time, and his mother had redone it as a guest bedroom suite. Sienna couldn’t help but be disappointed at missing out on the mementos and paraphernalia from his teenage years.
Although Olivia had promised they were packed away in boxes, and she was welcome to look through them anytime. Max had grimaced at the idea, but Sienna knew nothing would stop her from doing just that. And then teasing him about it after.
Despite the grumbling in her stomach, she was loathed to leave the comfortable bed. But the last few months had taught her to listen to her pregnant body. She needed to eat for herself and the baby when she was hungry.
She gently removed Max’s arm and pushed the covers aside, swinging her legs over the side of the bed.
“Everything okay?” Max asked, his voice gruff from sleep, eyes drifting open.
“I’m going to get something to eat,” said Sienna, pulling on a peignoir that matched her nightgown.
Max stretched his arms, his eyes sharpening as they adjusted to the dark. “Want me to come with you?”
“No, I’m good.” She leaned down to peck his lips. “Go back to sleep.”
“Okay then.”
Sienna silently laughed at how quickly he took her at her word. He turned on his side and was fast asleep by the time she closed the bedroom door behind her.
She gingerly made her way down the softly lit hallway to the backstairs, which, if she remembered correctly, would lead her to the landing just off the kitchen.
While she had spent time in the main part of the house, the upstairs level was still unfamiliar. The only other time had been her wedding day when she’d used one of the other guestrooms to get ready.
Lost in thought, Sienna didn’t immediately notice the light above the stove was on or that someone was already standing between the open refrigerator doors.
She flipped the light switch on the wall inside the entrance and wasn’t sure who was more shocked. Her at finding someone else awake at this late hour or Robert Valentine looking guilty, the cake container clutched in his hands.
“Oh,” she murmured.
“You scared me.” He grinned over his shoulder before turning around to face her. “I thought it was Olivia, and she would not be happy with me raiding the kitchen for sweets.”
Sienna walked toward him, smiling tentatively. Max had once told her that his father was quiet and reserved and that it took him time to open up to others. She had not spent much time alone with her father-in-law and, if she was honest, felt intimidated by him. He was unfailingly polite, but he was also the head of a global company and a billionaire multiple times over.
If her husband’s wealth sometimes overwhelmed her, it was nothing compared to how she felt around her in-laws.
Sienna often wondered what Robert thought of her and her relationship with his son. For anyone who hadn’t witnessed their years-long friendship, it might appear she’d latched onto the Valentine Heir. Everything had snowballed in the past year, including her becoming pregnant within months of getting married.
“Couldn’t sleep?” he asked.
She shook her head, leaning her elbows on the kitchen island. “The baby woke me up. He likes to play in the middle of the night, and he likes to eat.”
Robert chuckled. “The first one is always an adventure. With us, I suspect it was Max gearing up to play and Cassie who wanted to eat.” He set the container down on the counter and shut the refrigerator door with his foot. “I’m afraid I don’t have an excuse. I was craving your delicious cake.”
“Me too!” she said enthusiastically.
“Great minds,” he said, his smile so much like her husband’s that she did a double take.
“Max has your smile,” she found herself saying, wonder in her voice.
He nodded. “Among other things.”
He started to say something, stopped, and then a resolute look came over his face. It was much like the one Sienna often saw on Cassie’s face when getting ready to address a difficult situation. She braced herself, but his following words brought tears to her eyes.
“You’re good for him, Sienna. Max has become more grounded since meeting you, and he’s certainly happier.” Robert continued, his green eyes peering intently into hers. “He has always been driven; it’s a Valentine trait, so I can’t blame him for it.” The quirk of his lips was familiar again.
“But his mother and I worried he was too focused on work and not enough on everything else life offers. Then he met you, and something started to change, to open up.” He paused briefly. “If I haven’t said this before, you should know I’m glad you’re part of our family.”
Sienna could feel the tears leaking from the corner of her eyes. It was likely hormones, but she was also touched by his words. “Thank you. He makes me happy too, and I love him so much. I hope you know that.”
“I do,” he said gently, handing her a kitchen napkin and straightening away from the counter. “Now, shall we have some cake?”
Sienna nodded, giving him a watery smile as she dabbed her eyes with the napkin.
Rather than chance the high stool at the kitchen island, Sienna sat down at the breakfast table tucked into a curved glass-walled alcove. She watched Robert move comfortably around the kitchen, taking down plates from an upper cabinet and grabbing a knife and two forks from one of the drawers. He also poured two glasses of milk and then cut generous slices of the cake, one for each.
“I’m not supposed to have sugar.” He gave her a conspiratorial wink, forking up a bite. “Olivia has been on a health food drive lately. If it wasn’t for the twins’ birthday, we would have eaten alfalfa sprouts for dinner.”
“It’ll be our little secret,” Sienna told him, her eyes sparkling with mirth.
They both dug into the cake enthusiastically, his delighted eyes meeting hers as flavors exploded in his mouth. “You really are an incredibly talented baker, Sienna.”
“I can always send care packages to your office,” she offered magnanimously.
He made a face. “Olivia has her spies everywhere.” And then he grinned. “Tell you what. Call me whenever you need a taste tester, and we’ll work something out. Especially if there is pie involved.”
“I will keep that in mind,” she giggled, enjoying herself tremendously despite her earlier trepidation. “Max is not a huge fan of cherry pie.”
Robert shook his head in dismay. “He has no idea what he’s missing out on.”
As they bonded over their midnight snack, Sienna knew that she was exactly where she belonged and that Robert would be her ally for life. She was loved. And she was blessed.
“Your dad went there?” Bea asked as she followed Evelyn as she moved around after feeding JJ. The baby was sleeping peacefully in a bassinet not too far from them.
“Yep,something about ‘sometimes a vice-admiral has to step in.” she says while pushing her braids to the side, tucking some behind her ear “He didn’t appear worried though, so maybe there’s nothing wrong with Rooster’s mission. You know how it is—higher-ups checking in, making sure everything's running smoothly.”
Beatrice nodded,chewing her lower lip. "Yeah, that's true. He's been in the game for a long time. If there's something off, he'd probably pick up on it."
Evelyn glanced at Beatrice, concern flickering in her eyes. "You seem a bit on edge, Bea. Everything okay?"
Beatrice sighed, her shoulders slumping ever so slightly. "It's just... with Rooster deployed, and all this tension in the air, I can't help but worry. You–you know your dad better than anyone…should I be worried?"
Evelyn set the book she was about to put away down, her gaze meeting Beatrice's with a reassuring smile. "Bea, my dad has a knack for appearing calm even when the world is in chaos. It's part of the job, you know? But deep down, he's just as human as the rest of us. If something was seriously wrong, he'd probably let me know."
Beatrice nodded, appreciating the honesty in Evelyn's words, rubbing her arms. "I guess you're right. It's just hard not knowing, especially with everything that's been happening lately."
Evelyn moved closer,folding her arms as she leaned against the wall, “I know my dad is there because of the breach. That I’m sure.” she says as she looks back to where Shells was currently busy by flipping the channels on her tv, “But that is all I can safely assume.”
Evelyn's voice softened then “Rooster is a skilled pilot, and he's been through his fair share of missions. He knows how to handle himself."
The brunette nodded, rubbing her forehead. "I know, Ev. It's just...you know how it is. When it's someone you love, logic sometimes takes a backseat to emotions."
"Hey, that's completely understandable. We're all human, after all. Emotions are what make us who we are. Don't be too hard on yourself for feeling worried. It just means you care deeply."
Beatrice offered a small smile, appreciating the comfort in Evelyn's voice "Thanks, Ev. It's just a lot to process, especially with the kids and everything else."
Evelyn nodded in understanding. "You’ll be okay and if you need help you can always count on us, Shells, and me. We're all here for you."
Beatrice's gaze wandered to where Shells was engrossed in the TV, pursing her lips as she looked for something to watch "I appreciate that, Ev. I do."
Evelyn nodded, her gaze moving to where Wiley was, the cat took a liking to always sleep close to where JJ was. "I can't promise that everything will always be smooth sailing, but I can promise that you won't face it alone. Whatever happens."
Beatrice chuckled, wiping away a stray tear that escaped. "You always have a way of putting things into perspective, Ev. Thanks for being that anchor when I need it the most."
“Someone has to.” she smiles, “I’m the brains and Shells is the brawn.”
Shells,who didn’t care to be called as such, giggled gleefully in response while still going through channels.
Evelyn placed a comforting arm around Beatrice's shoulders. "Distance can be tough, especially when it feels like you're navigating storms on your own. But you two will be okay…also,what’s this I heard about your aunt Martha?"
Beatrice leaned into Evelyn's comfortable couch and she sighed, allowing the cushions to almost swallow her. "Aunt Martha is...well, she's Aunt Martha. You know how she is – cryptic, mysterious, and always dancing around things."
Evelyn raised an eyebrow, her curiosity piqued. "And? Did she drop any hints or mystical advice about the current situation with Rooster and everything else?"
“She told me to be patient, to navigate storms, and to be careful. Classic Martha speak."
“Huh.”
"Yeah," Beatrice agreed, a thoughtful glint in her eyes. "She did mention something about navigating storms, metaphorical ones. It got me thinking."
Evelyn nodded, her gaze drifting to Shells, who was still engrossed in TV, occasionally flipping through channels with a playful hum. "About?"
Beatrice took a deep breath, the weight of her thoughts heavy in the air. "About life, I guess. About how it throws these storms at us."
Evelyn listened attentively, her gaze soft and understanding. "Life does have a way of testing us, doesn't it? But sometimes, it's about trusting that you have the strength to weather them, no matter how fierce they may be."
Beatrice nodded, a contemplative expression on her face. "Rooster has been my anchor through so many storms. Ever since the beginning." she pauses, “...I want him to be okay,Ev. He went through…so much, so much.’
Evelyn's gaze softened once more, and she tightened her arm around Beatrice. "He's a resilient guy, Bea. You've seen him face challenges head-on, and he's always come back stronger. I've seen the way he looks at you, the way he talks about you. Rooster is committed to weathering any storm with you and for you."
Beatrice's eyes shimmered as she leaned into Evelyn's embrace. "I know he is. It's just... This situation with Mark and Miranda, it's unsettling. And Aunt Martha's cryptic advice doesn't provide the clarity I wish it did."
Evelyn sighed, her fingers absentmindedly stroking Beatrice's hair. "Your aunt Martha has…her own way of guiding others. It might not always be straightforward, but her insights have a way of making sense in their own time."
"I hope so," Beatrice murmured, her gaze distant. "I just want everything to be okay. For Rooster to come back safely, for us to get through whatever this is."
"We all do, Bea."
"I guess we just have to take it one day at a time, and-"
Shells’ voice interrupted them as she tossed the remote away, “Evelyn you only have horror channels and one kid channel? How the hell are you going to raise JJ? Is there a Hellraiser for babies I don't know about?”
The sudden shift from the heartfelt conversation to Shells' comment brought a burst of laughter from the trio. Beatrice wiped away a lingering tear and chuckled, appreciating the comedic relief.
Evelyn rolled her eyes playfully. "You know, Shells, JJ is still a baby. Horror movies can be educational but you know I’d never put my son through that."
The laughter echoed in Evelyn's living room, temporarily dispelling the weight of the world. Shells, seemingly unaffected by the emotional conversation, grinned mischievously. "You're just limiting his potential, Ev.I know you too well, JJ could be the horror movie aficionado of his generation!"
Evelyn shook her head, her eyes dancing with amusement. "I'll save the horror movies for when he's a bit older. For now, we'll stick to age-appropriate cartoons."
Beatrice couldn't help but join in the laughter, the tension in her shoulders releasing a little. Her stomach felt iffy, she was still a bit anxious but decided to use this anxiety to message her parents and check on the kids. She excuses herself as she walks to Evelyn’s guest bathroom, locking the door behind her and then allowing her body to calm down.
She leans her back against the door, furrowing her brows with her phone on her chest, “It’s fine, everything is fine.” she whispers to herself, dialing her mother’s number, “We are all fine. We really are.”
Beatrice waited anxiously as the phone rang, each ring feeling like an eternity. Finally, her mother's warm voice answered on the other end.
"Tesoro, how are you?"
Beatrice took a deep breath, trying to steady her nerves. "I'm okay, Mama. Just needed to hear your voice. How's everything there?"
"We're all good here, sweetheart. Your papa is tinkering in the garage, and the twins napping. Nicole is watching tv, and the house is as lively as ever."
A small smile played on Beatrice's lips. "How's everyone holding up without me?"
Claudia chuckled, "Well,honey, it’s not like you are out of the country. We are all doing fine.”
Beatrice exhaled a sigh of relief. "I'm glad to hear that. You know, I'm grateful for your support and Papa's. It means the world to me."
Claudia's voice softened. "We love you, Beatrice. Always have, always will. We understand the challenges you and Rooster face, and we're here for you every step of the way."
A lump formed in Beatrice's throat. "I love you too, Mama. And thank you.”
---
 Rooster remained focused on his duties, analyzing reports, conducting briefings, and ensuring the readiness of the squadron. They had a few hours before the mission so he took that time to…look at every single picture he had of Bea on his phone.
In one photo, they stood on a beach, the sun setting behind them, casting a warm glow. Beatrice's hair danced in the gentle breeze, and Rooster couldn't help but marvel at the serenity etched across her face.
Another photo showed Beatrice holdingNicole, in her arms. The sheer joy radiating from both mother and child made his hear flutter. Rooster traced his finger over the image, the longing for those moments intensifying as the weight of separation settled on his shoulders.
As Rooster continued his nostalgic journey through the photos, he stumbled upon an image from their wedding day. Beatrice looked breathtaking in her gown, her eyes locked with his in a promise of forever. Rooster couldn't help but smile, the memory of that day etched into his heart.
Sometimes, he’d go to sleep listening to their wedding playlist.
The sound of a knock on the door brought Rooster back to the present. McAllister poked his head in, a hint of a smile on his face. "We’ll leave in fifteen, sir."
Rooster nodded, locking his phone and tucking it into his pocket. "Thanks, McAllister. I'll be right there."
As McAllister left, Rooster took a moment to collect his thoughts. Then he steeled himself for the mission ahead, the echoes of their shared laughter lingering in his mind. He was already wearing his flight suit, all he had to do was get his helmet.
Rooster rose from his chair, the metal legs scraping against the floor as he stood. His mind, momentarily freed from the weight of command duties, lingered on the images of Beatrice.The room, adorned with maps, mission briefings, and the hum of the air conditioner, seemed to shrink into insignificance compared to the warmth those memories brought.
With a purposeful stride, Rooster made his way out and towards his jet.Familiar faces greeted him with nods and salutes as he walked ahead. Once he reached it,Rooster took a moment alone, gazing at the sleek fighter jet that awaited him on the tarmac.
No matter how many times he did this, he still had goosebumps knowing what he’d do. He was about to put his helmet on, stopping when he saw McAllister approaching him, “Sir! Sorry,Vice-Admiral Simpson wanted to talk to me.”
“Oh? What did Vice-Admiral Simpson want to discuss?"
McAllister shifted slightly,. "He wanted to go over some strategic points for the upcoming mission. He just told me to uh…do a good job.” he pauses, “And he said that you don’t need to know more because–”
“Because I already know, I get it.” Rooster nodded,chuckling to himself.  "Alright, McAllister. I appreciate the heads-up. Anything else before we head off?”
McAllister hesitated for a moment, glancing around as if making sure no one was within earshot. He leaned in slightly, lowering his voice. "Sir, there's something else. It's about Mark."
Rooster's expression tightened, the mention of Mark drawing his full attention. "What about him? "
McAllister's gaze held a mix of concern and uncertainty. "Sir, I've noticed some unusual behavior from Mark. He's been having private conversations with some of the recruits, and it seems... secretive. I overheard bits and pieces, sir, and it sounded like they were discussing something that goes beyond the usual mission chatter."
Rooster's brow furrowed, the weight of responsibility settling back onto his shoulders. "Private conversations, you say? Any idea what it might be about?"
McAllister nodded, swallowing nervously. "I can't say for sure, sir. But it sounded like they were involved in something outside the scope of our usual operations. And, well, Mark has been acting rather condescending and arrogant lately, like he's privy to some information the rest of us aren't."
Rooster's jaw clenched, his mind racing through the possibilities. The puzzle pieces seemed to be falling into place, aligning with the suspicions that had been lingering. "Condescending, arrogant, and secretive. Not exactly the qualities you want in a teammate."
"No, sir. It's been bothering me for a while, and with everything else going on, I thought it best to bring it to your attention," McAllister confessed, a sense of unease in his eyes.
Rooster appreciated McAllister's diligence. "You did the right thing, McAllister. I need to know what's going on with my team. We can't afford any internal disruptions, especially with a mission on the horizon."
"I just... I don't want to jump to conclusions, sir, but it feels off. And I've seen the way Mark looks at you, sir. There's something there," McAllister added, almost hesitantly.
Rooster's expression grew even more serious. "What do you mean, 'there's something there'?"
McAllister chose his words carefully. "It's like he resents you, sir. I don't know the specifics, but it's more than just professional disagreement. There's a personal element to it."
Rooster's gaze hardened, the implications sinking in. If Mark was involved in something beyond the squadron's knowledge, and if it had a personal angle involving Rooster, it added a layer of complexity to an already intricate situation.
"Keep an eye on him, McAllister," Rooster instructed, his tone firm. "Gather whatever information you can, discreetly. I want to know what he's up to, and if it poses a threat to the squadron."
"Yes, sir. I'll do my best," McAllister affirmed,quietly..
Rooster clapped McAllister on the shoulder. "Good man. Now, let's get ready for the mission. We'll deal with this when we have more information. For now, our focus is on the task at hand."
Chapter 4
It was almost 5pm when I saw Steve again. I still had no idea what was going on. He was standing in the lobby, arms crossed, stiff and looking nervous. There wasn’t anyone else around at the moment.
“Hey,” I greeted quietly. Ready to leave if he decided to act aggressively again.
Steve’s head snapped around. There was no anger in his eyes, he looked remorseful. He gave me a sad smile and walked over, enveloping me in his arms, “I’m so sorry, Y/N. I don’t know what I was thinking. I had a lot on my mind, I didn’t mean to blow up like that. It was uncalled for. I’m so very sorry. Please forgive me.”
Sam walked in before I could reply. “Forgive what?”
Steve stepped away from me, “I accidentally stepped on her foot.”
“Ouch! I’ve been there, Y/N. Bigfoot over here needs to be more careful. It’s like being crushed by a hippo.” Sam gave me a side hug, smiling at Steve.
“That it is,” I laughed. Mouthing ‘we’re okay’ to Steve. He smiled back at me, relieved. I hope he’ll open up to me later. “Will I see you both for dinner?”
“Count on it. I’m gonna need a big bowl of pasta to get me through this evening’s briefing. I’m sure Wanda and our resident aquatic mammal will too.”
I chuckled, “Are hippos aquatic?”
“A hippopotamus will spend almost 70% of its life in water, so yes… They aren’t called the river horse for nothing.”
“I don’t think anyone one calls them that, ” Steve snickered.
Sam cocked his head to the side, clearly annoyed with us. “You guys need to expand your viewing selections. Something beyond history and baking shows.”
I wrapped my other arm around Sam and gave him a squeeze. “So it’s just the three of you? What happened to working in pairs?”
Steve nodded, “We will be. Fury has an agent joining us.”
As if on cue, a blond woman entered. She was beautiful. Her whole face lit up when she spotted us. “Looks like I’m right on time. Are you my welcoming party?”
Sam was the first to respond. “Agent 13. Long time no see. To what do we owe the pleasure?”
Agent 13… Sharon Carter… Steve’s Sharon. What was she doing here?
Steve put his hands in his pockets. “Sharon will be our fourth. Fury asked her to go to Bolivia with us. She’s familiar with the territory.” He met Sharon’s gaze, “It’s nice to see you.”
It was clear Steve had expected her. He looked… delighted. Why didn’t he tell me she was coming?
She walked past Sam and I, “Likewise, stranger.” She embraced Steve. “It’s been far too long.” She stepped back, her smile was dazzling.
Steve kept his hands in his pockets, expressed his eagerness to show Sharon around the new compound. This being the third Avengers’ headquarters, built on the same site as the second. He couldn’t take his eyes off her. Looking both at her, and through her. I knew that look. He was caught up in the past again. I’m not stupid. I know they have history, and that she was Steve’s last link to Peggy, the love of his life.
Looking at Sharon, she seemed just as taken with Steve. Her warm brown eyes were locked on his. It felt like I was intruding on a private moment. Sam must have noticed too, because he whisked me out of the room, telling me we should give them some time alone. My stomach flipped… He didn’t even introduce me.
---------------
Steve disappeared with Sharon for the next two hours, they didn’t make it to dinner. I sat alone, rubbing my bracelet, unable to stop my mind from wandering to ugly places. I only know they made it to the briefing because I saw them through the conference room glass. I wasn’t spying, I was concerned.
---------------
It was half past 9, when I orbed into Steve’s room. I brought him a plate of food because he missed dinner. He was sitting on the couch, going through papers on the coffee table. I sat next to him and put the plate on a free corner.
Steve smiled, “Thank you sweetheart. I already ate at the meeting, but thank you for thinking about me.” He turned, giving me a chaste kiss.
“Oh… ok.” I picked up the plate and orbed to the kitchen, placed it in the fridge and orbed back. I snuggled into Steve’s side, trying to silence that little voice in my brain.
Steve sat back and wrapped his arm around me. He kissed the top of my head and when I looked up at him, he kissed my lips.
“I love you, Steve.”
He hummed in agreement and kissed me again. I pulled away, prepared to say something to him, but he beat me to it.
“Sharon and I are going to lunch tomorrow.” Noticing my furrowed brow, Steve continued. “Just a friendly meeting to catch up, touch base before the strategy conference with Sam and Wanda later.”
That inner voice was now screaming, making my ears ring. They were going out. This was deeply unsettling. Compounded by the fact they would be going to another country together very soon.
I tried to voice my concern, “Didn’t you two catch up enough when you were giving her the tour?”
Steve seemed amused, “Is my little doll jealous?”
“No,” I grumbled.
“Sweetheart, I assure you it’s not a date. It’s just Tuesday lunch with a friend. You have nothing to worry about.” He could tell by the look on my face that I wasn’t convinced. “I will tell Sharon I’m taken,” he offered. He began undressing me and kissing my neck, effectively distracting me. “I’m your man, Y/N. Let me prove it to you.” He picked me up and carried me to bed.
---------------
Steve was asleep on my chest, snoring. I continued running my fingers through his hair. Even after a long night of lovemaking, I still had that nagging in the back of my head, that queasiness in my gut. I kept telling myself it was just my insecurities talking. Steve and I have been together for a long time now. We belonged to each other. He wouldn’t throw away two years for an old flame. I held him to me tight. I was worried over nothing. He loved me… right? Everything would be fine.
---------------
Steve and I sat across from each other, eating breakfast, playing footsie under the table. We were back on track. Yesterday was just a hiccup and we got past it. It was just us, enjoying a new day.
I took a large bite of my breakfast sandwich. The yolk popped and squirted across my face. “Shit!” I grabbed my napkin to wipe it off.
“Ah babe, you know I like it when you’re messy,” Steve said seductively.
I snorted, “Perv.” I gave him a one finger salute.
“Your perv.”
Happiness poured over me like honey, hearing him call himself mine. I love him so fucking much.
Bruce and Wanda sat down with us, chatting about the latest episode of some new detective show. I continued rubbing my foot on Steve’s when he suddenly pulled his foot away, giving me a hard look. ‘Behave,’ he mouthed harshly. I tried to not let that hurt as much as it did.
---------------
Lunch with Sharon began harmlessly enough. She met Steve at a food truck by her hotel. They got their food, Steve paid, and they sat at one of the tables that were set up. Steve doesn’t know why he felt anxious before, Sharon was easy to talk to. They spoke about how nice her hotel was, about what they’ve been up to these last few years. They discussed work, Steve telling her about the new team and recent missions. It was great catching up with an old friend.
Sharon gave him a gentle smile, “I’m glad to hear you’ve been doing so well, Steve. I’ve been worried about you?”
“You have? I mean I’ve been doing ok, all things considered. I’ve… I’ve thought about you too.” Steve smiled back, reassuringly.
Sharon took Steve’s hand in hers, “Do you ever think about us?”
Steve was stunned, unsure of what to say. So he went with the truth. “Ya, sa… sometimes,” he admitted.
This pleased her. Sharon squeezed Steve’s hand, scooting closer, her leg grazing his. “I want a chance to make you happy, Steve. I think we owe it to each other to try. I mean, we never really got a chance to be together. We met on my undercover assignment. Then I joined the CIA and was stationed in Berlin. After that, you were on the run, and I had to get off the grid. Then Thanos happened and I was dusted. It’s been a hard road, but I think our time is now. I think we could be great together. Just give us a chance.” She looked at him, hopeful.
Steve quietly listened, unsure how to feel. Guilt, obligation, a longing he couldn’t pinpoint, hesitation and a spark of affection. He should tell her he’s already with someone. He should….
Sharon leaned over and kissed Steve, catching him off guard… On instinct, Steve kissed her back. Hand reaching out to run through her hair. Suddenly realizing what he was doing, he stopped, but Sharon was too in the moment to notice. She continued to kiss him before pulling away, grinning.
“I’m so happy we’re doing this,” Sharon said while scratching his beard “Hmm, this has to go. It’s like kissing a carpet.” She wrapped her arms around him and nuzzled his neck. “This has been a great first date, Steve.”
Steve tried to keep his distress to himself. Unable to force any words from his lips, he sat there mutely. Letting Sharon hang all over him. It will be ok, he thought. I’ll talk to Y/N and she’ll understand… like she always does.
Love Is A Battlefield || Chapter Twenty One
Clay Spenser x OC
Love Is A Battlefield Masterlist
This Months Writing
A/N I know it’s been a while since I dropped a chapter of this story but thank you for sticking with me and being patient
As always reblogs and comments are highly appreciated
Tumblr media
De-briefing sucked, Rylee had always hated it with a passion. Everything was in the AARs so why did upper brass want it again, like they were too lazy to read the actual reports that they were forced to do. All she wanted to do was get back out to her little girl who was buzzing that everyone was home, however Rylee didn’t miss the scowl on her face when she saw the cuts littering her mum’s face and she was pretty sure Athy was going to explode when she saw the massive cut to her Uncle Sonny’s face.
Rylee didn’t realise she had zoned out on the whole debrief until Sonny placed his hands on her shoulders, gently squeezing them. “I am crashing at yours tonight,” He said, he knew he didn’t need to ask as he was always welcome and he knew that one little girl loved when he stayed over. “I am thinking movie night in the living room, letting little madam stay up as long as she can, junk food and a bottle of whiskey, god knows we both need it.”
“That sounds like a plan my friend,” Rylee nodded, pushing herself up from the chair, it had been a while since they had a movie night, and neither of them had work in the morning so nailing a bottle of whiskey between them didn’t sound like a bad idea. She knew that the topic of Clay would be brought up. Especially with how close they had gotten in a short space of time.
It was like a switch had been flipped, after Clay had explained his side of things, everything changed, she didn’t hate him now, she didn’t actually know what she felt for him which made things awkward. She wasn’t going to lie and deny that he wasn’t her type because he definitely was, but could she go there or was there too much past?
The walk back to the cars was short and quiet, everyone was exhausted and just wanted to go home to their families.
The drive back home was relatively normal, well apart from the little human babbling away in the back seat, telling Rylee all the things she had been up to whilst she was away. Glancing in the rearview mirror, she saw how big and bright her daughter’s smile was. Athy was a happy child and it took a lot to bring her down, Rylee just hoped that she hadn’t fucked her child up especially with the PTS but at least she mad managed to slowly start cutting down on the meds, feeling like they were working and she was finally getting to grips with the trauma of war.
Walking into the house Rylee had finally started to relax, being back in the comfort of her own home helped massively, she could never fully relax whilst out in the middle of nowhere always watching over her shoulder to keep her and everyone safe.
Feeling her phone buzz in her back pocket she quickly pulled it out to see a text from Clay, she couldn’t ever remember giving him her number, Shaking her head at the phone she shoved the phone back into her pocket making a mental note to respond to it later as she still wasn’t sure what was happening between her and Clay.
“Mummy, can we watch need for speed?” Athy grinned, bouncing on the balls of her feet as she clutched her pyjamas in her tiny hands.
Sonny didn’t say anything, he just raised and eyebrow at Ry making her laugh and shake her head at her best friend. “There is no denying she is your daughter, I mean what she is five years old and has the same love for cars as you do,”
“Well what can I say, she has good taste,” Rylee winked before crouching down to Athy’s level. “I think that is a great idea baby, how about you go get changed and me and Uncle Sonny will get the den set up,”
Tumblr media
Rylee had taken her focus off the disney film that was playing, Frozen was one of Athy’s favourites and they had watched it so many times that Rylee knew it word for word. She was too engrossed in her phone as her fingers darted across the screen replying to Clay.
“So how is movie night?”
“Not bad, just what I needed, however I am currently being tortured by Sonny singing let it go,”
“I do not envy you in the slightest babe,”
That's when the butterflies erupted in her stomach, all over him saying, well typing one word. She needed to stop, this was Clay, the person that she hated for so many years they weren’t the same people as they once were.
“Trust me it is bad, I am pretty sure my ears are bleeding,” She smiled as she hit send on the message, nothing was forced between them anymore. But she need to be careful, she didn’t know what she was feeling but she knew that it was a dangerous game to be playing.
“I mean I feel slightly insulted that I wasn’t invited,” She laughed as she read the text, even over message she could hear the playfulness in his voice, but she nearly spat her drink out when a picture came up on the screen, a picture of a very topless Clay, his hair all ruffled and wet from obviously coming out of the shower and his grey sweatpants were hanging extremely low.
Was he trying to flirt with her? What was happening? He was texting her like they were a couple, this was very unfamiliar territory for her. Did she even like him like that?
Rylee quickly got lost in thought, as she glanced over to her baby girl, snuggled up to Sonny as they watched the movie, both as engrossed as the other. She didn’t just have herself to think about, Athena came first, she always has and always would do. Every relationship Rylee had been in had ended in heartbreak and she didn’t know if she could put her princess through that. Love was a battlefield and she had the scars to prove it.
Glancing back at her phone screen she felt her heart rate increase, she couldn’t deny he was gorgeous, maybe a quick fuck would set her striaght, no strings, no relationship just sex. It had been a very long time since she last got laid.
Her head was all over the place right now.
“You still there?”
“Yeah, sorry got distracted by Athy,” She lied, she couldn’t tell him that he was the reason she was distracted, “Anyways Athy asked when you were coming over to play again, I think you are becoming one of her favorite people, well apart from Sonny but no one will overtake him.”
“I can come round tomorrow? If that works for you, we could maybe go out for lunch as well,”
“Sounds good to me Spenser,” Rylee smiled as she hit send knowing that Athy would be so excited.
“Perfect, I shall be at yours for around 12, I do not plan on getting out of bed any earlier than I need to,” The message came through and it was followed by the three little dots dancing on the screen. “I also need to ask you something as well but feel it can’t be done over text.”
“All good I hope???”
“Yeah nothing to worry about, don’t worry”
“Okiedokie, I will see you tomorrow, night Spenser,”
The moment she hit send on the last message she locked her phone and tossed it onto the sofa so it was out of reach, she thought she got away with the texting, Sonny was distracted afterall but when she looked over at him to find him grinning at her she knew she had been busted.
“So who was making you smile like a teenager speaking to her crush?” He smirked, as he followed her into the kitchen to get Athy another drink and more snacks. “It’s been a while since I have seen your smile so wide and true.”
“It was nobody okay,” She shrugged not wanting to admit that maybe Sonny was right, maybe she still had the crush on Clay but maybe it was just her southern regions talking due to lack of getting laid.
“Hmmm, I don’t believe you kiddo.”
I Still Want You, I Still Need You Masterlist
VI. Hello, Sweet
Favorite Fics Masterlist
Four years came and went.
You fell naturally into motherhood. Olivia was a good baby. She slept well during the night unless she had been teething up a storm. Those days you drank all the coffee you could. There were days you had a hard time but Okoye was there to help out and so did Steve whenever he came by. Steve and you grew closer as he helped you with Olivia. You called him super Uncle. The love and adoration that was always on Steve’s face, made you feel like you can almost move on. But the idea always scared you.
Olivia was a smart kid. She was a Stark to a T. She got her hands on just about anything and would make things. And for an almost four year old, it was extremely impressive. Impressive that Tony would sent little building kits for her and she would get them done in a few days with your help. She had the attitude of a Stark but she had the heart of a Barnes. Just like Steve predicted.
Your daughter’s facial expressions were one hundred percent Bucky’s. The way smiles played on the corner of her little lips down to the way she expressed herself with her eyes. Her long hair remained dark as well as her blue eyes. She was a miniature version of Bucky. Steve even said that each time he came back to visit, Olivia looked more and more like him.
Olivia was the calm to the the storm you had been through.
She kept you from falling apart.
She kept you whole.
But yet, you never moved on from losing Bucky.
You walked into the lab to find Olivia in the same place you had left her. She obsessed over the erector set Tony sent her. Tony loved to spoil his niece, just like you loved to spoil yours. A few months after Tony and Peppers wedding, Pepper had become pregnant and shortly after Olivia was born, so was Morgan. Whenever you went to visit them, which was the only time you left Wakanda, the two girls were inseparable. It killed you and Tony to see them have to part ways.
“What are you building this time, bug?” you asked as you sat next to her. Her dark hair hung around her face. She had always refused to where hair bands unless it was to bed.
“A rower coatter,” Olivia’s face popped through the hair, a huge smile on her face. The smile took your breath away. “Can you picture it to Unca Twony?” She loved it when you sent her completed works to Tony. And Tony loved it too.
“Sure thing,” you leaned forward and kissed the top of her head. “How about this weekend we go see them? I’m sure Morgan and you can find something in Uncle Tony’s workshop.” Olivia’s eyes lit up when you said Morgan and workshop. When the two of you would visit, Tony and you would find the girls in Tony’s workshop. You had to convince him to make a small space for the girls since they were always found there.
You sat down at your work table and began to fumble with the scrap metal in front of you. You made it your mission to get cleaner and better filtered water to the Border Tribe after discovering their wells were either running dry or had harmful bacteria in them. It took you a week and a lot of using that Stark charm to get M’Baku to agree to your aqueduct like creation.
“All I need to do is come up with good design,” you whispered to yourself.
After an hour of fumbling and putting pieces together. You finally came up with the perfect example. Now, all you need to do is email Tony what you need.
After hitting send on your email, you looked up to see Okoye walk into the lab. Over the last few years, the two of you have grown closer and could count on each other. You trusted her with yours and Olivia’s life.
“Okie,” Olivia shouted and ran to the woman. Okoye knelt down and let Olivia jump into her arms. Okoye had grown so fond of Olivia that she would take her out with the other members of the guard to show her what they were doing. Olivia loved it.
“How are you little Tiger?” Okoye kept the little nickname for Olivia from when she was in the womb. She has proven to be just that too.
“Good,” then off Olivia went back to her little work table. A true Stark never fully leaving their work undone.
“I see you got your aqueduct done,” Okoye came over to you. “When will we be able to get this done?”
“As soon as Tony can send me what I need, we will be able to get it up and running.” You pushed back from the table. “How’s the guard doing? Were they able to get the barrels of water out there?”
Since finding out about the water situation, you and Okoye decided it would be best to send water until you figured out what you needed to do. So Tony sent twelve barrels to fill with water, even though you asked for six. Tony somehow knew you would need more. Once a week Okoye and the guard would swap out six for six new ones. It was a good process.
“They did,” Okoye crossed her arms and watched Olivia. “This water should last more than a week. They had two barrels still full.”
“Good, that gives us enough time to get this thing built and get them water,” You stood up and made your way around the table.
“I haven’t seen Steve around these last few weeks,” Okoye gave you a side eye and smirk.
“I may have made our friendship awkward,” you said walking to get water. You slightly cringe at the last conversation the two of you had about a month ago. Since then Steve only called or texted you. Making the conversations brief.
“How could you make it awkward? It’s not like you two slept together…”Okoye’s chuckle died as she saw your face. “You slept with him, didn’t you?”
You pressed your lips into a thin line. Did you regret it? Nope, it was the first time in years you could let yourself just go like that. Was it the right time for something like that? Nope, but you thought it was and the next morning you had to tell Steve that.
“I did and it was great,” you closed your eyes as you remembered that night. “Then when morning came, some switch flipped and I just couldn’t do it. I wasn’t ready.” Your voice began to shake as you remembered the exact moment you knew you weren’t ready to move on.
Okoye reached out and touched your shoulder. “It’s okay. Someday you will. Tiger will need a father figure to look up to. Steve Rogers is that kind of man.”
Okoye was right. Steve was the right kind of man and you knew deep down you should maybe at least give him a chance. “I’ll call him this evening when I’m settled down for the night.” Then you replayed that night in your head.
The tension.
The kiss.
The feeling of his skin on yours.
The warmth of his breath on your bare skin.
***
You sat on the couch mindlessly flipping through a magazine, while you sipped on your beer. You rarely drank so you always wanted to keep it light. Steve was putting Olivia to bed and seemingly, it sounded like it was going well. She normally tries every kind of tactic to stay up later. When a door opened, you looked up to see Steve walking your way.
“Asleep already?” you asked setting the magazine on the coffee table. “You didn’t drug her did you?”
Steve laughed and sat on the couch next to you. He cracked open a beer and took a long drink. “Nope, she just wanted four stories and by the time I got through the third one, she was out.”
You leaned over and rested your head on Steve’s shoulder. You swore you felt his muscles tense for split second. “You are a life saver!”
Steve gave a light chuckle. “Tell me whats new? How’s Tony and them doing?”
“Still won’t talk to you huh?” you leaned away. You saw the hardness in those blue eyes. Tony still held some feelings towards Steve. You tried a few times to get Tony to just move on and forgive him for whatever it was. But Tony was a Stark.
“Nope,” Steve emphasized the P in nope.
“Well, they're doing good, Liv and I are going to see them next weekend,” you poked your finger into Steve’s arm. “You can come, you know? He’s asks about you too.”
Steve leaned forward and folded his hands. “I can’t,” he said not making eye contact. “I have that group i’ve been leading.”
You stood up with a huff and walked to the small kitchen. “You and your fucking excuses Steve Rogers. You and Tony are like freaking teenage girls who had a stupid fight and wont talk to each other.” You turned to see that Steve had gotten up and had his hands on his hips. “I’m just saying,”  you turned to wash the few dishes in the sink. “You guys were the best of friends. You guys hung out almost all the time.”
You didn’t hear Steve come up beside you. You jumped a little but realized he was helping by drying the dishes. “That’s not why I hung out with him. People just assumed that, I just wanted to be closer to you and for the fucking life of me, I couldn’t man up and ask you out.” You rarely ever heard Steve swear. It surprised you each time.
But that wasn’t what made you drop the plate. You looked towards Olivia room and hoped that she didn’t wake up. You were in the clear.
“For years,” Steve continued as he turned to you. You just stood there and stared at the plate in the sink. The water spilling from the faucet, splashing water droplets around the sink. “I watched you with guy after guy. Almost dying in New York and then almost dying in Sokovia. I wouldn’t know what I would have done if you had.” Steve turned you with his hands. You kept your eyes on the ground. “The that day when Bucky went back on ice, that smile you two exchanged, I knew it was too late. I couldn’t be mad. The two you were perfect for each other.”
“Steve…” you stared to say but he shushed you.
“Then you lost Bucky and that literally almost killed.” Steve took his free hand and lifted your face to meet his eyes. They were soft and you saw just about every emotion he was felling. “Seeing you on that building ledge, I didn’t just pull you back for Bucky’s sake. I pulled you back for mine.”
Whatever happened next, it was beyond you. You didn’t know how it happened, but you found yourself closing the gap between you and Steve and pressing your lips firmly to his. His lips were soft and gentle. It was like something took possession of you body. Steve placed both hands on the side of your face and pulled away.
“You’re not kissing me because I told you how felt?” Steve asked resting his forehead on yours.
“I don’t know.” you answered honestly. Your eyes were closed and you were breathing hard. You really weren’t certain why you kissed Steve. He was never more than just a friend. But these last few years he’s been there for you and Olivia. “Just roll with it.”
And Steve did.
Steve pressed his lips back to yours and deepened it. One of his hands slowly makes its way to the back your neck, while the other goes down to you waist. It grips firmly as he backs you into the living room.Your arms instinctively wrapped around his neck. Steve’s tongue slid across your bottom one, causing you to groan.
“Not here,” you slightly pulled away. “My room.”
Steve’s hand left your neck and shot down your waist. Without any effort, he picked up. You wrapped your legs around his waist as he wrapped his strong arms around you. Steve started towards your room. You buried your face into his neck and felt his body tense up and him suck in a breath.
Once in the room and the door closed, Steve had your back pressed to the door. His breath was by your ear. Sending chills down your back and making you ache for him between your legs. “I am going to take my time with you,” he whispered in your ear, sending yet another chill down your back.
“Show you me what you got, Captain,” you rolled your hips into his already hard erection. Even thorough your cotton pajama shorts, you could feel his cock straining against his jeans as it twitched.
Steve’s eyes grew dark as he spun the two of you around and dropped you on the bed. He bent down and pulled your bottoms and underwear. He saw how wet you were without even having to look at your underwear.
“Someone’s excited,” he teased as he tossed the clothes to the side.
You pushed up on your elbows and gave him a smirk. “I can say the same about you.”
Steve smirked and rose an eyebrow before pulling you legs and placing them over his shoulder. “Let’s see if you taste better than you look.” Without another word, you watched as Steve dove in. His lips meeting your clit and his tongue shooting right inside you.
With a gasp, you shoot a hand to push his face further. The way he licked, sucked, and flicked his tongue around, had you shaking and breathing hard. You couldn’t stop whimpering his name as you felt yourself quickly getting towards that edged.
“Steve,” you whimpered. Your legs pulled him closer and you could feel him hum against your clit as his tongue fucked you. The vibration of his hum was what sent you over the edge. You cried out and both your hands and legs pushed Steve further, if that were possible, into you. Your body shook as your orgasm rocked through your body. And Steve still ate at you until your back fell onto the bed.
You lifted your head up to see Steve stand up and discard his clothes. When his cock sprung free, it had you drooling and you wanted it all inside of you. Steve made his way between your legs and looked at your shirt, with his bare hands, he ripped the fabric off your body throwing it behind him. Looking into his eyes, you could see the hunger and lust. He dipped down and kissed you, tasting your release on his lips. He gripped your hands in his and placed them above your head.
“I want to hear you say it again,” Steve mumbled against your lips. You felt himself line up with your entrance.
You know what he meant. “Fuck me, Captain.”
With that, Steve slipped inside you effortlessly. A soft moan escaped your lips letting Steve’s tongue shoot into your mouth. Once he was fully inside you, he waited until you were adjusted before he started to move in and out of you slow. You slowly lifted your hips but Steve used a hand to pin them back.
“I don’t think so, sweetheart,” he hummed as he peppered kisses to your jawline.
“Well,” you wrapped your legs around his waist. “If you don’t do anything about that slow movement, I will have no choice but to take control.”
Steve pulled out all the way and then slammed right back into you. You cried and moaned as he grunted as the pleasurable action was repeated. His cock slid against your wall in the most beautiful way. You arched your back into his chest each time his cock hit your cervix. His pelvic bone rubbed your clit perfectly, making you moaning, whimpering mess under him. The pressure on you hands and hip being pinned, added to the mess you already were in.
Begging him not to stop.
Pleading him to keep going.
Calling him things, you never thought you would call him before.
It all was bringing you closer to the edge.
Soon, Steve’s thrusting slowed but they were still hard and deep. His grunt were deeper, inside his chest. He let go of your hands and hip and wrapped his arms around you. You did the same. You knew you were at the edge and you knew that Steve was close too. You pushed his face up and see could see the love he had in that moment in his eyes. It was all for you.
“Cum for me,” you whispered.
With one hard thrust, Steve spilled right into you and triggered your orgasm. Your bodies shook together and your breaths were still uneven as the both of you came down. Steve pushed himself up and cupped your face with hand. He leaned down and kissed you slowly. There was no hunger behind it. Just love and passion. Then he rolled over and pulled you into his arms before the two of you fell asleep.
In that moment, everything felt right.
Morning came when Steve gently woke you up. He sat on the side of the bed and brushed back some hair. “Hey,” his voice was gentle. “Breakfast is ready and Liv wanted to show you the pancake we made you.”
You sat up and stretched. “What time is it?”
“Eight, you deserved a morning to sleep in. Especially after last night.” Steve leaned in and brushed his lips against yours. “I’ll let you get ready.”
Once you were alone, you slid out of bed and went to the closet. When you turned the light on, your eyes landed on a box that was labeled BUCKY.
***
You were putting things away as you thought about that morning. You had just told Olivia to pick up her space for the day when you turned around and froze. There stood Steve and Tony. Their faces told you that they meant business.
Olivia squealed when she saw the two men and ran towards them. Steve hugged her while he made eye contact with you. Then Olivia jumped into Tony’s arms. He picked her up and he had the biggest smile on his face. She pointed towards her project and mumbled something. Tony’s face just lit up.
“I guess while I’m here, we can get you something else,” He told her as she wiggled out of his arms. “Sorry, dear,” he said as he and Steve approached. “We would have called but what we have to tell you has to be said in person.”
You gulped. Tony’s tone had you wondering what he needed to say. Steve just stood to the side and had his hands on his hips. His eyebrows furrowed. Taking a deep breath you turned to a random guard that was placed there to watch over you guys. “Can you take her to Okoye?”
The woman took Olivia’s hand and walked out with her. You turned to the two men but it was Steve you addressed. “What’s going on?”
“You may want to sit down for this,” Steve said.
You looked to Tony and he nodded. “Okay,” you sat in your chair. “What is it?”
“We may have found a way to bring everyone back.”
You froze. Coolness filled your body and in the wake of it washing over you, goosebumps followed. Your breathing got stuck in  your throat as and you grabbed your water and chugged the rest of it. Your ears were ringing and couldn’t hear what was being said by Steve or Tony.
“Let her breath, Rogers,” Tony’s hand was instantly on your back. “Gosh! We said we would ease her into this. Not dump it on her all at once.”
“How?” you choked out.
“Time travel,” Tony gently said as he sat on your table. “Do you remember Scott Lang? Well he helped me make it possible.”
Then you laughed. You laughed so hard that nearly fell out of your chair. “Time travel?” you asked trying to catch your breath. “You guys are going to go back into time and stop Thanos? What would that mean for us? I wouldn’t get Bucky back. 2018 me would still have Bucky and raise a child with him.”
Tony shushed you with his finger on your mouth. “Slow down, little sister. We are going back to get the stones and bring them to our time. Hoping it’ll work.”
You leaned back in your chair and folded your arms across your chest. You stared at Steve, who couldn’t take his eyes off you. “Do you think this will work?” You asked them both.
“We have to try, right?” Steve responded. “We owe it to those we lost. If not, then we just go on with life.”
You took a deep breath and just stared into space. You thought deeply about what was being said. You could get your husband back. Olivia could have her father. But what happens if this doesn’t work? Then you’re heartbroken all over again. You didn’t have the stomach to have such hope that they were serving to you on a silver plater. But yet, here you were taking it. Because that’s that just who you were.
“Okay,” you stood up. “Then I’m coming with you guys.”
“Nope, thats a huge ass pile of nope,” Tony said standing up too. “You missy, are staying here.”
“I agree,” Steve said.
“You have Olivia to care for,” Tony started to say.
“And you have Morgan,” you pointed out.
“She has two parents,” Tony said taking your shoulders in his hands. “Olivia only has one. For now. And if this were to go sideways and something happens to me, I need you there for Pepper.”
You took another deep breath. Tony was right. “Okay.”
“Perfect,” Tony said letting you go. “Now, I am going to go look for my darling niece and buy her something extravagant.” Tony walked out of the lab leaving you and Steve looking at each other.
The tension in the air was almost suffocating. You knew Steve didn’t want to look at you, he kept darting his eyes away from your each time you looked towards him. It wasn’t that the morning after sleeping with him was bad. There wasn’t even an argument. You just simply told him as you held one of Bucky’s shirts with a few tears in eyes that you couldn’t. That you needed some time.
Well, if this time travel thing works, then there goes the time you needed.
“You know,” you walked over to Steve. “I’m getting the feeling that you are partly on board with this.”
Steve looked down at the ground and then back at you. “What makes you say that?”
You made a face at him. “One, I’ve known you for over a decade. Two, you’re looking at me like you want to throw me on something and have your way with me. But you can’t because you’re best friend, also my husband could be coming back.”
Steve cracked a smile that disappeared just as fast. “It’s just horrible timing on my end. I’m fully on board with this.”
“Good,” you started to leave and turned back to Steve. “If this doesn’t work out, I’ll give us a shot. See where us goes.”
“And if Bucky comes back and he finds out about that night?”
“Then I tell him the truth,” you shrugged your shoulders. “In fact, I will just tell him. He’s been gone for five years. He would have expected me to move on. Now, let’s find my brother before he buys Liv something that’s too big to fit in my apartment.”
***
A few days have went by. Tony had sent the stuff you needed to get water to the Border Tribe. You and some volunteers set to work on getting it all started. It was hard long work that you decided to stay in your old house with Olivia. It made it easier to wake up and get to work and let Olivia play with the other children.
On the fourth day, you were ready to break ground when you noticed a change in the air. The same kind of change five years ago. You shook your head and passed it of as just thinking too much into it. You were too tired, you could barely sleep in that house still. You stayed up most nights as your mind raced with memories. And emotions.
“Let’s take a few hours,” you said to the others as you got up. You could barely concentrate. Today was the day that you brother and friends went on that time travel mission. You couldn’t help but worry about it going wrong. You were waiting for word about if it worked or not.
Olivia ran up to you and jumped into your arms. She nuzzled her face into your neck and you let out a soft sigh. She always knew when you needed hugs the most. She pulled back and took your face in her tiny, little hands. Her clear blue eyes stared deep into yours. She didn’t have to say anything to tell you that everything will be fine no matter what happened.
“I wuv you, Mommy,” she said.
“I love you, too, Tiger,” you gave her little butterfly kisses and set her down. “Can you take her back to the lab? I’m gong to take a few minutes and catch up later.”
“Yes, Missus Barnes,” the guard said taking your daughters hand in theirs.
When you alone you started to stare at the supplies in front of you. You wondered if this was actually enough. You wanted this to work so bad, you almost didn’t hear the snap of a twig behind you. You snapped your head up to listen for it again. Taking a deep breath you shook you head and went back to shuffling through the metal before you.
A twig snapped again.
You picked up a thin, but long piece of metal. “Whoever you are, you may want to think twice about who you sneak up on.”
You spun around, swinging the metal as you went. Something, well more like someone stopped your swing. You froze when you realized who had stopped your swing. A chill ran through your body. You know the color drained from your face. Those blue eyes were just as surprised as you were. They searched yours for some kind of answer.
Your hands fell and so did the metal. You took a step back only to lose your footing. He stepped forwards and grabbed your arms pulling you back towards him.
“Careful there, Doll.”
Sin Ti // Angel Reyes ft. Dominic Lee Part 2
Tumblr media
Angel Reyes x Solana Losa (OC)
Dominic Lee (OC) x Solana Losa
2.45k
This took a bit of a 360 turn.A lil angst, a lil drama and because I couldn’t stop typing once I started...there’s a part 3 to this but it’ll come out after Ez’s part drops. Angel is a bit of an asshole, Dominic is a bit smug and Solana is no longer the woman Angel thought she was or maybe she’d always been that way?
Enjoy! Feedback is welcomed and please reblog, like y’all don’t understand how much that means to creators on here.
Unedited.
Four months later
Angel stared at the ultrasound pictures laid out on his coffee table. It has been a total of seven months since everything blew up in his face and to say he wasn’t coping well was an understatement. Angel had reverted to his shallow fuck- anything- with- a -pulse self with everyone walking on eggshells around him. Even as he sat staring at the pictures, there was a woman in his bed fast asleep.
Angel had tried talking to Solana but she had Vega playing bodyguard and Angel knew better than to mess with Vega because even though she could handle herself, her big brother Rio was another story by himself. He had no idea when Solana had left Santo Padre but he knew that his heart had left right along with her.
This was the second set of ultrasound pictures he’d gotten and if he was being honest, they were the only thing giving him hope that Solana would come back to him.
Adelita had shown up out of the blue, caught him in a rather compromising position and then proceeded to tell him that the baby had died. He didn’t know whether to believe her or not because Potter had told him something completely different including the fact that her baby was a Reyes. Maybe Solana had lied to him but he could see past that and forgive her because she’d done the same for him numerous times.
If only she would just come home.
Tumblr media
Solana smiled as she took in the scene before her, it had been a year and six months since she had left Santo Padre and quite honestly she didn’t feel like going back. Her uncle had told her that it was best for her to stay on the other side for a bit while things blew over but what was supposed to be five months had become more.
In that time she’d given birth to a healthy baby girl who she had named Cataleya Marísol Reyes. She had also met a man who made her feel love and happiness to an extent she didn’t think was possible. Sol had come to realize that while she had love for Angel, she was no longer in love with him. She had given so much of herself to Angel without the same effort being reciprocated that she didn’t know what to do with herself when she got a man who did.
Dominic Lee was the man Bishop had entrusted his niece’s safety to while she was on the other side. Their families had a long history and Bishop knew that if anyone would keep her and her baby safe it would be the Lee’s. The Lee’s were an immigrant family from China, how they ended up in Santo Padre, Bishop didn’t have a clue but Dominic’s grandfather was the first Asian man to be a part of the Santo Padre charter. His father, much like Ez, had a lot of book and street smarts. He had gotten into a school on the other side, started a successful business and would occasionally help the charters getting shipments in and out of Mexico.
Dominic had continued his father's legacy in both aspects of business and as much as Bishop respected and cared for Angel, he never liked the relationship that had bloomed between him and Sol. He had warned her on numerous occasions that even if Angel cared about her it would end in heartbreak. Seeing his niece happy was the only thing that mattered most to Bishop and if that meant encouraging Dominic to make a move on Solana…then maybe that's exactly what he did.
"So…you and Dominic? How'd that happen?" Vega questions as they both look on at Dominic, Ez and Rio playing with baby Leya who already had them all wrapped around her little fingers.
"Honestly V, I don't fucking know. It feels like it all happened so fast, like one minute he's showing me to the guest room and the next he's rearranging my insides cause my hormones were off the wall. He makes it easy…"
Vega gives her a look that says to elaborate what she was talking about because Vega had always thought that her best friend would forever  be whipped for Ignacio.
"I never have to question whether he loves me because it shows in everything he does. I never have to ask him to make time for me, to take me out or to treat Leya the way he does but he does it anyways because that's the kind of person he is. I'm not saying he's perfect, neither am I but we're imperfectly perfect for each other, I don't know what it is but he just makes me feel whole." she smiles looking at the man who had managed to steal her heart in more ways than one over the past eleven months.
Vega smiles at the way her best friend glows and even though she's still hesitant on Dominic, she can tell that he makes Solana happy. She wasn't Angel's biggest fan but a part of her had hoped that maybe they could work things out if Angel would just get his shit together. She didn't send him all those pictures for nothing but Angel never got the clue and never came around asking for the information that she would've eventually given to him after pulling his leg a little bit first. Instead, the asshole had chosen to fuck his way through Vicky's girls and even had a run in with Adelita that Ez had briefly mentioned.
"What are you going to do about Angel? You know he's not going to be happy."
"Yo Stanford, we gotta go." Angel's voice sounds from outside the front door followed by a series of knocks.
"Speak of devil." Vega mumbles as she gets up to open the door.
Solana had moved to where Dominic and Rio were playing with Leya out of Angel's view. Ez went to grab his keys and kutte as Vega dealt with Angel. Solana wasn't ready to face him yet, she knew she'd have to sooner or later. She sees Angel's figure rush pass Vega and Ez before the bathroom door slams. Still tucked away in the corner of Vega's living room, she prays Angel just leaves as soon as he's done in the bathroom but those prayers fall on deaf ears as Leya screams out loudly just as he's walking by. Solana quickly takes her from Rio trying to calm her down but it's too late as Angel rounds the corner with Ez and Vega hot on his tail.
"What the fuck?" Angel looks around at everyone before him before settling on Ez. "So this what we doing now?"
"Angel, don't blow this out of proportion. They only got here today, nobody's hiding anything from your dumbass. If I find out you put your hands on my man the moment y'all leave from here, I won't hesitate to take my switch to your dick asshole. Now get out before Bishop calls." Vega speaks up trying to diffuse the situation.
Cataleya refused to stop screaming so Solana stands in an attempt to get her outside for some fresh air only for Angel to grab onto her upper arm. Rio sits back watching the shit storm unfold before him. Dominic is on his feet the moment Angel reaches for Sol and grabs onto her. He knew exactly who Angel was, they had never met personally but from everything Solana and Bishop had mentioned he had developed quite a dislike for the man.
"Suéltame Ignacio.”
“We need to talk.” Angel says pulling her closer to him.
“I know you heard her say to let go. I’d let go if I were you.” Dominic says stepping into their space. The edge in his voice told Sol that this wouldn’t end well for Angel if he kept pushing his boundaries.
“Who the fuck is this clown?” Angel questions looking around the room. Vega shakes her head because honestly, could he get anymore stupid?
It took a lot to piss Dominic off but when it came to the things or people he cared deeply for, it's like a switch flipped inside him. Angel grapping onto his woman and refusing to let go while she held on to their daughter  was something he refused to sit by idly and watch. Cataleya may not have been his child biologically but she was his nonetheless and he'd protect her at all costs even if it meant from her own father.
"He's my fiancé." Sol grits out glaring at Angel who drops her hand like he's been burned. She hands Leya to Vega asking her to take her for a walk, both Ez and Rio following behind her. Dominic takes his previous seat because the look in Solana's eyes told him she could handle the situation and that he didn't need to intervene at the moment.
"What the hell is your problem?" she questions poking at Angel's chest.
"You're the one who left and then show up here a year and a half later with another man who's apparently raising MY child! You don't get to ask me what's wrong with me when something is clearly fucking wrong with you. I thought I knew you Sol but it's clear that I don't." Angel spits out at her.
"I gave you six months to get your shit together Ignacio, you didn't. I gave you all of me for fifteen years and you didn't give two fucks because you got comfortable. What, you thought that if you kept slanging me dick I'd stick around? Everything I said to you that night you decided you wanted to believe some woman you'd been fucking over me, I meant it. Everything I said to you that night in the hospital, I meant it. I still gave you six months hoping you'd take the fucking hint and come sort shit out but fucking your way through Vicky's girls was way more important than being there the night your daughter was born. So much more important that you signed away your rights as her father over a fucking phone call while you were deep in one of those bitches hungover and high out your fucking mind. You don't get to tell me something is wrong with me when you can't get your shit together Angel. You're the one who fucked us up, you made your decision and I made mine. I have love for you and I'll forever be thankful that you gave me that amazing baby girl but that's it Angel."
It hurt, Angel couldn't lie and say that it didn't. The look in her eyes told him a lot but also a little at the same time. She was no longer the woman he knew. He could no longer read her emotions but that one look in her eyes told him that she was permanently done with him. He didn't remember the phone call she was referring to but he wondered just how fucked up he was for fucking up not one but two of his kids lives. They'd never know him, he'd never get to watch them grow and it's simply because he was selfish and wanted to have his cake and eat it too. He had everything with Sol, he was happy and so was she even if they didn't have a label but shit changed when he met Adelita.
"I was under the influence, how the fuck does that count as me signing my rights away? I already lost one child, I'm not losing another. My child will not call that clown dad." he says pointing over to Dominic.
"You might be her father biologically but that's not what it says on paper and until you get your shit together, you won't be coming anywhere near my daughter." Dominic states smugly. He wasn't on her birth certificate yet but he knew that shit would knock Angel of his high horse a bit.
"The fuck are you even doing here? This doesn't concern you." Angel says pointing between him and Sol. "As far as I'm concerned,you're just a rebound fuck. Sooner or later she's gonna come right back where she belongs and I won't hesitate to put a bullet in your skull."
Dominic stands and walks over to the both of them. "And yet still…I'm the one who put a ring on her finger and the one your daughter's gonna call dad. I already won,thanks to you." he smirks before turning to Solana and presses a kiss to her cheek. "I'll be outside, don't hesitate to break his nose if he gets out of line."
Angel waits for Dominic to exit the front door before he speaks. "Are you seriously going to marry him?"
"Si."
"Why querida? And don't tell me it's because you love him."
"Loving him is not the only reason why I agreed to marry him Angel."
"Then why?!" he shouts. "Did you even love me or was that all a lie just like you lied about Adelita's baby not being mine?" Once again Angel isn't expecting the slap that he collects as soon as he finishes his sentence.
"I'm a lot of things but a liar isn't one of them and you know it Ignacio. I get it, you're looking for someone to blame but I refuse to let you use me as your punching bag. Get your shit together before you lose everyone around you the way you did with me. Potter may have told you that Adelita's baby is a Reyes but that baby is not your Angel and it's not Ez's so don't even go there. Don't look at me like that either."
"Then which Reyes is it huh? My pops?"
"That's not my story to tell but what I'll say is, once the truth comes to light…you're gonna look back and regret this very moment. I guess love really does make you blind. Look what it did to me." she chuckles lightly. "you never loved me Angel, you loved the thought of me because I was easily accessible to you. That man out there," she points towards the front door walking closer to Angel leaning in close to his ear. "…he loves me unconditionally, always puts my daughter and I first. I never have to question where his loyalty lies  and while we've had our unpretty moments…I won't hesitate to put a bullet in your skull the next time you threaten my husband." Solana pats his cheek and fixes his kutte before picking her baby bag up and walking to the front door where she stops and turns to look at him.
"Don't make me your enemy Ignacio."
Sunday morning you slipped out of bed, pulling on one of Bradley’s t-shirts and quietly making your way down to the kitchen. You decided to treat him to a full breakfast, letting him sleep in while you cooked. You looked in cabinets, finding what you needed to make him some pancakes from scratch, then opened the fridge to find eggs and bacon to go along with the pancakes. You selected a playlist on your phone, setting it on the counter out of the way and got to work cooking.
You were flipping pancakes, swaying to the music when Bradley wandered into the kitchen a little while later. He stood in the doorway watching you with a smile on his face before making his way over to slip his arms around you from behind and burying his face in your neck.
“Morning, Sweetheart.” He said quietly, before placing a soft kiss on your shoulder, then neck, before moving to your ear and finally your lips when you turned your face towards him smiling.
“I was trying to let you sleep in.” You told him, “Did the music wake you up?”
“No, I got lonely.” He pouted, “My beautiful love wasn’t next to me when I woke up and I got sad.”
“Aw, my poor baby Roo.” You cooed playfully, setting the spatula down and turning in his arms to wrap your own around his neck, “Come here.” You pulled him down and kissed him, your fingers slipping into his hair, loving the soft feel.
“I was looking forward to no more lonely mornings now that this is your home too.” He teased, “Only to wake up to no girlfriend by my side.”
“I promise to make it up to you.” You promised, kissing him again before turning back to the pancakes, “Grab plates though, your breakfast is almost done. I wanted to spoil my boyfriend with a nice breakfast this morning.”
“Your boyfriend greatly appreciates his girlfriend making him breakfast.” He said, kissing your cheek before doing as you asked and grabbing the plates.
“How about we eat then shower together before we go tell Gracie the good news?” You suggested.
“That sounds perfect, Sweetheart.” He agreed. “Jake and I are fully committed to taking her to Disneyland as well to soften the blow that we can’t all live in one giant castle.”
“I think the two of you just want a reason to go to Disneyland and you’re using our daughter to do so.” You laughed, turning off the stove after plating the last of the pancakes. You pulled the eggs and bacon from the oven where you’d been keeping them warm and set them on the counter. Noticing Bradley had gone quiet, you turned to see him set the plates down on the table and turn towards you. Without saying a word he was across the kitchen and had you in his arms, holding you tightly, his face buried in your hair, breathing you in. You wrapped your arms around him, your hands running over his back to comfort him.
“Bradley… Baby, are you ok?” You asked quietly, turning your face to place a kiss to his chest. “Talk to me, Roo.”
“I’m more than Ok.” He whispered in your hair, taking another moment before he pulled back and smashed his lips to your own, kissing you deeply. When the need for air caused you to have to separate, he pulled back enough to rest his forehead against your own, not wanting to separate further just yet.
“Not that I’m complaining…” You said, slightly out of breath, but highly confused, “But… what’s going on in your head, Bradley?”
“You called Gracie our daughter.” He replied softly, his voice gravely from emotions and the heated kiss, “I know it’s dumb that it just now hit me because she’s been calling me Daddy and I’ve literally been saying she’s my little girl for a while now, but to hear you say she’s our daughter… Y/N… I can’t even describe the feeling that hit me. It was better than anything that I’ve ever felt… It was more incredible than the feeling I got the first time I flew in an F-18. I just… got a little overwhelmed.”
“It’s absolutely not dumb, Bradley.” You said, pulling back so you can look him in the eyes. “Anything you’re feeling at any time is never dumb. I want to know what you’re thinking and you’re feeling. I didn’t think it was possible, but I just fell even more in love with you.” You pulled him in, kissing him softly but pouring all of the love you felt into it.  When you pulled away, you were both smiling widely, looking at each other with what could only be described as heart eyes. “Come eat, Baby. It’s going to get cold.”
After breakfast the two of you worked side by side to get the dishes cleared and put away then headed upstairs to take a shower…which ended up taking a lot longer than normal because neither of you could keep your hands off of each other.
Bradley left the bathroom first to get dressed while you were drying your hair and applying your lotion and running through your morning skincare routine. When you emerged from the bathroom with a towel wrapped around you, you found him sitting on the bed, dressed in a pair of jeans and a Philly’s T-shirt looking around the room, deep in thought.
You walked over to him, stepping between his spread thighs and cupping his face to gently lift it to look up at you. You smiled softly, bending down to place a gentle kiss on his lips before straightening back up so you could look into his eyes again.
“What has you so deep in thought, my love?” You asked him, slipping your hands around to the back of his neck and lacing your fingers together.  His hands came up to waist to hold you to him.
“Just thinking maybe we can look at new bedroom furniture for in here too…” He said, “While we’re out letting Gracie pick out her new room, maybe we can redecorate our space too… make it ours. And I was mentally making a list of spaces to clear out so you’ll have room in here.”
“I don’t need anything new or fancy, Bradley.” You assured him, “I just need you… and I don’t have much, so please don’t worry about clearing a lot of space.”
“Sweetheart, you may not need new or fancy but I fully intend to spoil my girl.” He informed you, pulling you down so you were sitting on his lap. “I think it’s important for us to turn this into OUR home. As for you not needing a lot of space, I haven’t forgotten our conversation yesterday on the phone. I am taking you shopping and we are not stopping until you have a full wardrobe that you are 100% happy with because you deserve nothing less than that. You’ve done such an amazing job at making sure that Gracie always has everything that she needs and you take care of everyone else all of the time… Sweetheart… please, just this once, let me take care of YOU.”
“I’m not going to win this argument am I?” You whispered, laying your head on his shoulder. “I’m not really good at letting people take care of me… but I’ll work on it. We can pick out new furniture…and go shopping for some clothes.”
“That’s my girl.” He said, turning his head to kiss your forehead, “I should warn you though, when I said just this once… that was a total lie because I plan on always taking care of you. I love you, Sweetheart.”
“I love you too, Bradley.” You replied, kissing his shoulder.
A while later you pulled into the driveway at Jake’s. Bradley parked the Bronco behind your car and the two of you made your way inside. It was already mid morning by the time you got there. Jake and Phoenix were on the couch when you walked in, Gracie running over with various cups and plates of her plastic food serving them.
“Hi Sweet Girl!” You said walking in the front door.
“Looks like you’re having a party and didn’t invite us!” Bradley said, hands on his hips, pouting playfully at Gracie.
“MOMMY! DADDY!” She exclaimed, dropping the plate of plastic food on the couch and running as fast as her legs would carry her towards him. Bradley laughed, scooping her up and tossing her into the air before hugging her tight to him and kissing her face over and over.
“I missed you my little princess!” He said between kisses. Gracie was giggling wildly at his antics. “Did you have fun with Uncle Jake and Aunty Nix?”
“I missed you too, Daddy!” she said, “We had fun! We pwayed! Unco Jakey wet me have ice cweam with spwinkos!”
“Wow, Ice cream AND sprinkles, Uncle Jakey?” You asked, playfully raising an eyebrow at him. You knew he let Gracie have treats when he watched her and you were fine with it. It was cute that Gracie thought she was getting away with something though.
“I’m the fun uncle, what can I say?” He laughed, “Did you two have a good night?”
“We had a great night.” You replied, beaming, looking at Bradley who was still holding Gracie.
“Anything in particular you’d like to share with the group?” Jake asked, winking. He clearly knew Bradley had asked and you laughed, shaking your head.
“Gracie, sweet girl,” You said, “Sit over here with Mommy and Daddy.”  You  moved to the love seat across from the couch, sitting down and Bradley sitting next to you with Gracie sitting in his lap.
“Gracie, do you remember when we were building with blocks and you built a big big castle so we could all live together?” Bradley asked.
“Yes!” She replied, “You wiv wif us Daddy! And Aunty Nix wiv wif us!”
You looked over at Jake and Phoenix who were both fighting smiles as you and Bradley tried to navigate this conversation. You stuck your tongue out at them when Gracie wasn’t looking causing your brother to chuckle out loud and Phoenix to playfully smack him.
“Daddy  and I looked for a big enough castle for all of us, but we couldn’t find one we’d all fit in.” You said, “Would it be ok if you and Mommy move into Daddy’s house with him and we come visit Uncle Jake and Aunty Nix whenever you miss them?”
“Unco Jakey, will miss us too.” She said, her eyes looking sad. Jake could feel his own eyes start to tear up looking over at his niece.
“Come here Princess G.” He said, opening his arms. Gracie jumped down and went to her uncle, climbing into his arms. “I love having you and mommy live with me so so much. But I think that it’s important for you and mommy and daddy to live together, Princess. You won’t be far away like you were before, Ok?”
“Ok.” She said, “But you be sad here awone, Unco Jakey.”
“I won’t be alone, Princess G.” He assured her. “I’ll still come steal you and we’ll have super cool sleepovers with blanket forts and no mommies allowed!” Then he looked over at Phoenix and winked before pulling Gracie to him and whispering in her ear, “You should ask Aunty Nix to move in with me so I’m not sad.”
Gracie beamed at him, then kissed his cheek and scooted over to Phoenix, crawling into her lap. Phoenix eyed Jake suspiciously, but wrapped her arms around Gracie giving her her full attention. They’d already discussed moving in together in future terms so Jake didn’t feel bad about using his niece as leverage here.
You and Bradley watched the scene unfold before you, stealing a glance at Jake, you caught the wink he sent your way. You could guess what your daughter was about to ask Phoenix and you had to hold back the laugh at Jake’s tactics.
“Aunty Nix?” Gracie asked
“What’s up Gracie Girl?” She replied smiling
“You pwease come wiv wif Unco Jakey so he’s not sad when Mommy and me wiv wif Daddy?” She asked, giving her biggest puppy eyes to Phoenix. Jake hadn’t been wrong. You were in trouble when Gracie was a teenager batting those eyes and dimples at you both.
Phoenix looked up at Jake who was also giving her his saddest puppy eyes and pout, his dimples showing too,  causing her to laugh, and fall more in love with the man. There was no way she could tell him ‘no’, or Gracie ‘no’.
“Will it make you feel better Gracie?” She asked, playing along, “If I come live with Uncle Jakey and make sure he’s not lonely?”
“Yes!” Gracie exclaimed.
“Ok, I will do that for you. I will come live with Uncle Jakey and make sure he’s not lonely at all. That way you and Mommy can go live with Daddy so HE’S not loney.”
“I wuv you Aunty Nix!” She said, hugging her tightly. Phoenix laughed, hugging her back just as tightly.
“I love you too, Gracie girl.” She replied, then whispered in her ear, “You should ask Daddy and Uncle Jakey to take you to Disneyland.”
“DADDY! UNCO JAKEY!” She yelled pulling away from Phoenix and whipping around, “We go to DISNEYWAND?”
“Well played Nat.” You laughed, “These two had already planned to offer that up had negotiations not gone well… I think we should make it a Daddy, Uncle, Gracie outting though…”
“Sweetheart…”Bradley said looking at you with a terrified look in his eyes. Glancing at Jake you saw the look in his eyes matched Bradley’s. “I mean… is that… wise?”
“You’re probably right.” You agreed. “We can send Bob to supervise.”
“Tulip!” Jake groaned, “Gracie… don’t you think it would be more fun with your whole family? We can get all of your uncles and maybe even Papa Mav and Penny to come?”
“YES!” She agreed with her uncle, who looked relieved.
“Well, now that that is settled,” You laughed, “We were thinking of furniture shopping today… letting Gracie pick out some things and apparently we’re getting new bedroom furniture too.”
“If you need her bedroom furniture we can move it…” Jake offered, but you could see he really wanted to keep a room here for Gracie. Bradley picked up on it too and smiled. He knew how much Gracie meant to Jake.
“We figured she’d need it when she’s having sleepovers here… if you’re ok keeping it.” Bradley said, “Was going to have her pick out what she’d like in case we needed to bribe her into the new room.”
“I think keeping a room for her here is a great idea.” Phoenix said, “We plan to steal her often anyway, so she’ll need a place to sleep.”
“Absolutely.” Jake agreed, smiling lovingly at Phoenix. “When is your lease up, Sweets?”
“I’ve actually just been month to month until I decided if I wanted to stay in an apartment or if I wanted to look at housing.” She replied, “So… it’s technically up in 2 weeks if I tell them I’m not renewing next month.”
“Tell them.” Jake said, “I’ll come help you pack.”
“I plan on taking my girls as soon as possible.” Bradley said. He pulled you over into his lap, holding you, “I know this week is going to be a lot…and I don’t want to add any pressure or stress to that. We have court and Gracie’s birthday. How about the following weekend we move Phoenix in here and you and Gracie in with me?”
“I think that sounds perfect.” You replied.”What do you think, Nat? Will that be enough time to get everything packed and sorted out with your apartment?”
“Plenty of time.” She smiled, “I’m Navy… I can move with 24 hours notice.”
You spent the rest of the morning and early afternoon with Bradley and Gracie at the furniture store picking out bedroom furniture and setting up delivery. As luck would have it, the sets you found that you liked were in stock so you just had to find a time that the store had a delivery truck and crew available. After leaving the furniture store you decided to stop at Bed Bath and Beyond to pick out new bedding sets and curtains to go with the furniture before grabbing lunch and heading back home for Gracie to take a late nap.
The week went decently fast. Bradley ended up spending every night with you at Jake’s, not wanting to be away from you and Gracie. Jake stayed at Phoenix’s on Monday and Tuesday night to start helping her pack but had promised to be back Wednesday night. He’d stopped into the Hard Deck Wednesday on his lunch while you were working, bringing you something to eat from In and Out Burger.
“I’m not flying this afternoon, so I decided it was a greasy burger, fries and milkshake kinda lunch day.” Jake said, bringing the food up to the bar and setting it all out for the two of you. “And it’s been awhile since I’ve had a lunch date with my baby sister.”
“Thanks Jakey.” You smiled, “You’re the best big brother in the world. I’m actually starving and this smells amazing.”
“You doing OK, Tulip?” He asked, taking the wrapper off of his burger and taking a bite.
“I’m just kinda nervous.” You replied, “I mean… logically I know that with the order of protection, him facing charges and actual jail time the odds are in my favor that the judge will actually terminate his parental rights, but a small part of me is still really scared something will happen and the judge will side with Trent.”
“Baby girl there is zero chance a judge would side with that piece of shit.” Jake assured you. “In fact, I’m confident that this hearing is just a formality to officially free Gracie from him. Lauren pretty much said as much the last time we met with her.”
“I know… It’s just really hard to trust that my world isn’t going to drop out from under me because everything is so perfect.” You confided in him. “Literally everything is going so well… I’m happy Jakey. I am in love with the most amazing man who is literally perfect. He’s stepped right into being Gracie’s daddy without any hesitation and adores her as if she were biologically his own. I’ve made friends…real friends. We have a whole ass FAMILY Jakey. This is… amazing…and yet… scary.”
“I know what you’re saying Y/N.” Jake said smiling sadly, “I hate that you have to feel this way too. I really tried to keep all the bad stuff from ever touching you, Tulip. I guess that just wasn’t realistic. Here’s the thing though… I’ve learned recently from some VERY smart individuals… It’s ok to trust the good stuff. The world won’t fall out from underneath you just because life gets good. The good stuff is what makes life worth living. Just trust that it’s all going to be OK. You’ve survived all the crap life had to throw at you…now you get the good stuff.”
“Listen to your brother, Sweetie.” Penny said gently, coming in from the office, not wanting to startle either of you. “It’s all going to work out tomorrow. Amelia and I will be over in the morning to watch Gracie again. We might take her to the park if that’s ok with you?”
“Thank you, Penny.” You smiled, “She’ll love that. She’ll be excited that Amelia is coming again, she adores her.”
“Perfect.” Penny replied, “I’m going to go take Mav some lunch, he forgot to bring anything. I’ll be back before you leave.”
“Sounds good.” You said, “Take your time.”
You and Jake finished eating your lunch then with some time left before he needed to be back at work decided to play a game of pool.
“So I know you’re moving in with Bradley and you’re in love and everything is great…” Jake said, “With everything that happened with Trent and with what we saw growing up… do you still believe in marriage and happily ever after?”
You looked up from the pool table where you were about to take your shot, trying to get a read on your brother. You couldn’t tell if he was asking because he wasn’t sure how he felt about marriage and happily ever after or if he was really talking about you and Bradley.  You took a minute to think about it, lining up your shot and taking it, sinking the ball in the corner pocket before standing up to walk over to Jake.
“Short answer?” You replied, “Yes. I do. Despite what we saw from our own parents growing up and what I lived with Trent, I DO believe in marriage and happily ever after. I believe in love, Jakey. Do I believe in the fairy tale love that we see on TV and in movies? No, because that’s not real. Love is sometimes messy, it requires work from both parties. It’s give and take… it’s not always 50/50… sometimes it’s one person giving more because the other person is tapped out. What we saw from our parents growing up wasn’t love. But we did see love Jakey. That sweet adorable old couple that used to buy us milkshakes at the diner whenever we went there to escape the fighting? They were so in love with one another after over fifty years of marriage… they thought one another hung the moon. THAT’S love. Bradley had reservations for us on Saturday night at the Italian restaurant we went to on our first date but when I called having a mini breakdown because I didn’t know what to wear and was hating my wardrobe, he realized I wasn’t freaking out about clothes and that going to a fancy restaurant was the last thing I needed so he canceled and planned a perfect beach date on the fly last minute. THAT’S love.”
Jake stood for a moment taking in what you said, letting it all sink in and processing it through his head.
“And because I believe in love, I believe in marriage and if Bradley wants to marry me someday, I will absolutely marry him.” You said, “But if he’s content with us just being together as a family then that’s what we’ll do because I love him.”
“I would do anything for Nix.” Jake admitted quietly. “If someone came through the door and told me that I had to choose between flying and her… I’d choose. Every. Fucking. Time. I would hand over my wings and sign my discharge papers and walk away.”
“Jakey, that’s love.” You smiled at your brother. “But she’d never ask that of you because she loves YOU. Do you believe in marriage, Jakey?”
“Yes.” He replied, smiling as he thought of the rings he had tucked away at home. He made a mental note to make sure they were better hidden before Phoenix moved in. “Can I let you in on a secret?”
“Of course you can!” You replied, gasping, hoping this was going where you thought it was going. Jake chuckled at the excitement on your face.
“Saturday… when Bradley and I were on a top secret mission….” Jake said, “He went with me to help me pick out a ring.”
“JAKEY!” You yelled, throwing down the cue on the table and throwing yourself at your brother. He caught you easily, laughing as you hugged him tightly, and he hugged you back just as tight.
“I take it, you approve?” He asked, chuckling in your ear. Pulling away you gave him a look like he was an idiot, making him laugh again.
“Of COURSE I approve!” You said, “Nat is literally the sister I always wanted and now I get! She’s also the friend I always wished I had. But beyond that she makes YOU happy and THAT is all I could ever hope for. When are you going to ask her?”
“I’m still working on that.” He said, “You better work on your poker face, Tulip. No slipping!”
“I promise!” You said holding out your pinky to him. He laughed but linked his pinky to your own in a child-like promise. “I’m so so happy for you Jakey.”
“Thanks, Tulip.” He replied, “I told you things are going to be good for us. All good stuff from now on.”
“I just ask one thing.” You said, trying to keep a straight face.
“Anything, Tulip.” He replied.
“You’re not allowed to use my daughter to emotionally blackmail Nat into sayin ‘yes’ to marrying you.” You teased, “Moving in was one thing, marriage is totally different.”  Jake threw his head back laughing.
“Tulip!” He gasped, “We’d already talked about it in general Saturday night because I knew Bradley was going to be asking you to move in with him… I just hadn’t made an official ask yet. I swear I wouldn’t ever use Princess G to manipulate anyone!”
“I know.” You laughed, “I just wanted to give you a hard time. Although now that I think about it… there could be some cute proposal opportunities using her as your little wingman… wing..girl?”
“I’ll let you know if I need to borrow my niece.” He laughed. “For now though, I need to get back to base. I’ll see you after work. Do you need me to get Princess G from daycare or are you good?”
“I’m good. I’ll be out of here at a decent time today. I’m thinking about ordering pizzas for dinner though, that OK, I know we just had junk for lunch?” You asked.
“Of course.” He replied, “Tonight is a no pressure, relax and breathe easy night. Tomorrow night, we will celebrate at home, low key. Friday we’ll be over at Mav and Penny’s house getting things set up for Saturday.”
“Ok.” You smiled, “All planned out.”
“Yup!” He said,giving you a hug. “Don’t work too hard, I love you, Tulip.”
“Love you too, Jakey” You replied, “Be safe doing whatever you’re doing this afternoon.”
“Just instructing.” He laughed, “I’ll be on the ground while they’re doing simulations.”
“Perfect.” You beamed. “Tell my future sister in law I said ‘hi’”
“Will do.” He laughed.
The rest of the day went fast. Penny made it back just in time for you to head to pick up Gracie. Bradley called as you were getting in your car to let you know he was done for the day.
“Hey, Sweetheart.” He said, “I’m leaving base now, are you still at work?”
“I’m just leaving now to go get Gracie.” You replied, starting the car.
“I’m going to run by the house to grab clean clothes and a shower then I’ll be over.” He said, “Do you need me to stop to pick anything up?”
“Nope, we’re ordering pizzas tonight for dinner.” You said, “Unless you want something else…”
“Pizza is perfect, Baby.” He replied, you could hear the smile in his voice. “I’ll see you soon. I love you.”
“Love you too. Drive safe.” You replied.
“You too. You’re both precious cargo!” He said.
After picking up Gracie from daycare and getting home, you got her a snack while you pulled out stuff to throw together a quick dump cake. You didn’t feel like cooking dinner but you were never too tired to make a dessert. You knew both Bradley and Jake loved the caramel apple dump cake you made for several of the dinner nights and it was really quick and easy so you didn’t mind.
“Gracie, do you wanna help Mommy make a cake for Daddy and Uncle Jakey?” You asked her. Your daughter loved to help in the kitchen and you loved the quality time with her.
“Yes!” She exclaimed, happy to help bake, especially for her two favorite people.
“Hop on over here my sweet girl!” You said, smiling, pulling up the step stool you sometimes used to reach stuff on the top shelves. You definitely did not inherit any of the height genes in your family. Jake got all of those. You helped your daughter carefully climb up on the step so she could reach the counter better and the two of you set to work dumping ingredients into the glass cake pan.  You had just finished and were putting the pan into the oven when the front door opened.
“Honey, we’re home!” Jake called. You could hear Bradley laughing as he came in behind him. “Where are our girls?”
“Unco JAKEY!” Gracie yelled, jumping down from the step stool and tearing off towards the living room. “DADDY!”
“There’s my Princess G!” Jake said, picking her up. “How’s my best girl?”
“I good!” She replied, kissing him on his cheek, “Unco Jakey, you pway wif me?”
“I will absolutely play with you, Baby girl.” He said, “Let me change quickly first, ok?”
“OK!” She replied, reaching over to Bradley, “Gimme Daddy!”  Jake laughed, passing her over to Bradley before heading to his room to shower and change out of his uniform.
“Hi Princess.” Bradley said, taking her from Jake and hugging her close, “I missed you so much today. Did you have a good day?”
“I missed you too Daddy.” She replied, “I pwayed wif my fwends today and den Mommy bwinged me home and we maked you and Unco Jakey a cake!”
“You did?” He asked, “Thank you, my Gracie girl! I can’t wait to eat the cake. I’m sure it’s the best cake ever.”
“I wuv you Daddy!” She said, grabbing his face and giving him a very big kiss. “We go wiv at your house now?”
“I love you too, Princess,” He chuckled, “We have to wait just a little bit longer. We have to make sure your brand new room is ready first.”
“Ok, Daddy.” She sighed, “You stay wif me and Mommy?”
“Of course, Princess.” He promised, “I’ll stay right here with you and Mommy, Ok?”
“Ok!” She said.
“Someone is turning into quite the Daddy’s girl.” You smiled, coming into the living room.
“Are you a Daddy’s girl, Gracie?” Bradley asked her, tickling her tummy as he held her. “I think you’re Momma’s little angel.”
“I am Mommy’s and Daddy’s pwincess!” She declared.
“Yes you are.” You laughed.
The night is relaxed. Jake and Bradley do their best to keep your mind off the hearing coming up the next day. Jake ordered pizzas to be delivered before he left base so they arrived not long after they’d gotten home. Once dinner was finished the three of you had taken Gracie out to the backyard to let her run around and run off some energy.
“I think you’re going to need to find that castle playsets to put in your backyard Rooster.” Jake said, “Princess G is going to need swings and stuff to play on.”
“I’ve been looking at some actually.” Bradley said, pulling his phone out to show Jake the playsets. You just laughed, shaking your head. You’ve given up trying to reign these two fools in anymore.
After a while you took Gracie in to wash her hands and let her help you dish up the cake the two of you had made and then you carried it out to the back so you could all eat dessert outside. The guys made sure to praise her (and you) for how delicious it was and how much they loved it. Gracie was over the moon that her two favorite people loved the cake so much.
By the time bedtime rolled around, Gracie was worn out. She requested that Uncle Jakey tuck her in and read her bedtime book, which he was more than happy to do.
“Want a glass of wine or a beer, Sweetheart?” Bradley asked, heading to the kitchen.
“Wine please.” You said, sinking down onto the couch.
He returned a minute later with a bottle of beer for himself and a glass of wine for you. Handing you the wine, he sat down, before pulling you into his side, wrapping his free arm around you. You rested your head against his shoulder and took a sip of your wine.
“I can hear your thoughts from up here, Sweetheart.” He teased, gently. “You’re supposed to be relaxing.”
“I am relaxed” You argued, looking up at him and sticking your tongue out. “I just… happen to also be thinking.”
“About tomorrow? Or non-stressful stuff?” He asked, kissing the top of your head.
“Both.” You replied honestly. “I’m mentally preparing myself for tomorrow and thinking ahead for the good stuff.”
“I can accept that.” He replied, “Let’s sort through the thoughts on tomorrow first. What are you thinking?”
“I just keep worrying something will go wrong, so I’m preparing myself in case we don’t get the outcome we want.” You admitted.
“That’s fair.” He said, “Considering everything you’ve gone through up to this point, Sweetheart, I can absolutely understand why you’re planning for the worst. It breaks my heart that it’s your default and I am making it my mission from now until forever to change your default to only expect the best that life has to offer.”
“I love you.” You whispered, turning your head into his chest. “I WANT forever with you Bradley Bradshaw.”
“I love you too, Baby Girl.” He said, setting his beer on the coffee table and using his now free hand to tip your chin up to face him, leaning down to kiss you softly.
“Alright, no making out in front of me.” Jake whined, coming into the living room. “Don’t make me separate you two.”
“Way to ruin a moment, Seresin.” Bradley said, glaring playfully at Jake.
“Sorry, not sorry.” He winked, plopping himself down on the other end of the couch. “What are we watching tonight? RomCom? Action? Comedy?”
“What’ll it be, Sweetheart?” Bradley asks.
“Sweet Home Alabama” You picked immediately, causing both men to groan. “It’s GOOD!”
“Sure…” Jake said, grabbing the remote from the coffee table and turning on the TV.
You spent the next couple of hours snuggled into Bradley watching your favorite RomCom. You started to drift off towards the end, relaxed and comfortable in Bradley’s embrace.
“Come on, Sweetheart.” He said softly, “You’re falling asleep, let’s get you to bed.”
“Goodnight Tulip.” Jake said, “Get some sleep, tomorrow’s gonna be a great day.”
“Night Jakey.” You replied, letting Bradley pull you up from the couch, “I hope you’re right.”
“I’m always right.” He winked.
The next morning, Jake took care of getting Gracie breakfast and getting her dressed while you got ready and Bradley kept you calm and together. Penny and Amelia arrived with coffee and pastries from the bakery down the road from her house. Once she was there to wrangle Gracie, Jake headed into his room to get ready.
“It’s going to be OK, Sweetheart.” Bradley reminded you before you headed down out to the kitchen, “No matter what happens today, you’ve got me, Baby. Gracie is not Trent’s. She calls me Daddy. She’s ours. I don’t care what the judge says. But they’re going to agree with us.”
“I love you.” You said, wrapping your arms around his middle and resting your head on his chest. “I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
“You’ll never have to find out.” He promised, dropping a kiss onto your head and wrapping his own arms around you. “I love you too, Sweetheart.”
You arrived at the courthouse and made your way through security. Lauren was waiting on the other side to meet with you again prior to going into the hearing. “Good Morning!” She said, smiling, “Let’s head into the conference room and we can go over what to expect today.”
She led the three of you to the conference room across from the courtroom you’d be in for the hearing.
“Has there been any new developments in that asshole’s case?” Jake asked, sitting down on one side of you at the table, Bradley  sitting on the other.
“Actually, I have some pretty good news to share with you all” She replied, “I just got an update when I arrived this morning and then his lawyer requested to meet with me first thing.”
“I’m afraid to ask what he wants.” You said quietly, unwilling to get your hopes up or believe the good news would indeed be the news you were hoping for.
“I understand, given the history, that you’re apprehensive with anything coming from him.” Lauren said, smiling gently, “But, Y/N, I promise you, this is all good.”
“Lay it on us.” Bradley said, squeezing your hand in support, and offering you a smile.
“Alright, well first of all, given the fact that he did violate the order twice and got violent the second time, chances of leniency from the judge will be slim to none. His lawyer knows that and I am sure made him aware of that. Trent is looking at jail time regardless.” Lauren said, “The amount of time is what’s up in the air. His lawyer advised him to work with you and give you what you’d originally asked for ahead of the next hearing date and that it’ll help his image in court. It might go a little ways with that judge, I assure you, it won’t be enough to get him out of serving time. I wasn’t going to point that out to his lawyer though.”
“So… is he going to do it?” Jake asked, “Did the piece of shit finally agree to sign off all rights to Gracie?”
“He did.” She smiled, “I have the signed papers here, saying he’s willingly signing over full custody to you, Y/N. He doesn't want visitation rights.”
“Ok, so I have full custody.” You said, “But he’s still listed as the father on Gracie’s birth certificate. Can the judge change that today?”
“We will still ask for that here today.” She assured you. “With him willingly signing over custody and not wanting visitation, we can certainly take it one step forward and ask that all parental rights to Gracie be removed. In the event that something were to happen to you, he’d have zero claim to her.”
“I want that. I can’t let him get her.” You said, “If something happens to me, he cannot have her.”
“He won’t, Sweetheart.” Bradley promised, leaning over to kiss your head, “None of us will let that happen.”
“I can promise you that, Tulip.” Jake said, “He’d have to pry her from my dead cold fingers, and even then there’d be a whole squad of naval aviators right behind me in line to protect her.”
“And in addition to her many bodyguards,” Lauren said, “If the judge for whatever reason, does not remove him from the birth certificate or revoke parental rights, you can create a Will and specify who will become guardian to Gracie in the event that something happens to you. Regardless of what happens here today, I highly recommend you do that anyway.”
“Ok” You said, “Thank you. For everything. I will never be able to adequately put into words how grateful I am to you for everything you’ve done.”
“Y/N, I am more than happy to have been able to help you.” She replied, “I was lucky enough to have had someone there and able to help me when I was in your shoes and now it’s my turn to do the same. Seeing you get to move on and live the life you deserve and see Gracie get the family she deserves… the Daddy she deserves.. And has found Bradley… that’s payment enough.”
“Well, after all this you’re officially a part of our chaotic family, so we’d love it if you'd join us Saturday for Gracie’s 3rd birthday party.” Jake said, “We…may have gone a little overboard on it.”
“We?” You laughed, “I’ve been doing all I can do to reign you idiots in. But absolutely, we would love for you to join us. I can definitely promise it’ll be a zoo…. And depending on how much these two have been planning when I’ve not been around… the zoo might be literal.”
“I would be honored to come celebrate your sweet little girl turning 3.” She replied, “I look forward to seeing what these two have planned.”
“You might not say that when you see what they’re capable of.” You replied, laughing.
“Alright, let’s go ahead and head into the courtroom.” Lauren said, “It’ll be a closed room because it’s for a minor.”
You filed out, following Lauren across the hall to the courtroom. Before entering you saw a familiar face heading towards you down the hall in service khakis. You smiled, nudging Jake.
“Looks like someone snuck away from base.” You said.
“Sweets, what are you doin’ here?” Jake asked, a huge smile spreading across his face at the sight of Phoenix walking towards you all.
“Wasn’t going to miss this for the world.” She replied, pulling him into a hug when she got to him. “Figured you could all use the extra support, so I got Admiral Simpson to give me the morning off. Mav’s covering for me.”
“I love you, Nat.” Jake said,hugging her back. “Thank you for being here.”
“Love you too, Jake.” She replied, “Let’s go free Princess G.”
“Thank you, Nat.” You said, hugging her before you all went inside. “You’re the best.”
“You’re the first female best friend I’ve literally ever had, Y/N.” She chuckled, “My sister from another mister.”
You all made your way inside the courtroom and took a seat at the front. You sat with Lauren on one side. Trent’s lawyer appeared for him, sitting on the other side of the room.
Once the judge entered and took his place, he quickly reviewed the files in front of him, including the additions placed in the file that morning.
“Ms. Kennedy, have you had time to review the new proposals submitted this morning from opposing counsel?” The judge asked.
“I have your honor.” She replied, “Ms. Seresin accepts the offer of full custody and zero visitation stipulation offered from her ex-husband. Your honor we also are requesting that Trent’s parental rights be completely repealed and his name be removed from the minor child’s birth certificate.”
“Ms. Seresin, is there a reason you are asking for her father to essentially be expunged from your daughter’s history?” The judge asked, directing his question to you.
You looked at Lauren who nodded encouragingly at you, before looking back at Bradley who gave you a soft smile. Taking a deep breath you stood up and addressed the judge.
“Your honor, with all due respect, Trent may have contributed the DNA needed to create Gracie that was where his contribution ended, Sir.” You said, “He has never, in her entire life, shown any interest in being her father, apart from when she could be used as a pawn to control me. He wasn’t there when I gave birth to her, You Honor. He hasn’t been there any time she’s been sick or had a bad dream, said her first words, or took her first steps. She hasn’t asked about him one time since we left Texas, nor has she ever called him Daddy.” You paused, taking a  steadying breath, looking back at your brother and Bradley again. “But, my daughter Gracie does have a Daddy. One that she loves very much, Sir. He may not have given her his DNA, but he gives her his love, he shows up, he loves her unconditionally and has done so since the first day he met her. He’s the one she calls Daddy and who she thinks hung the moon.”
“I appreciate what you’re saying, Ms. Seresin.” The judge answered, “Given what I’ve seen in the files here and from conversations I’ve had with Judge Edwards prior to today, I understand where you’re coming from. Strictly looking at the facts on the paper, Ms. Seresin from the two violations of the protection order already, the second being your ex husband attempting to forcefully remove you and the minor child from your residence, it is of my opinion that it is in fact in the best interest of the child to terminate paternal parental rights and in doing so I will grant your request to have his name removed from the birth certificate. You will, however, need to file that with the county in which she was born, which is in Texas if I am not mistaken.”
“You are correct, Your Honor,” You answered, choking on emotions, “Thank you, Sir.”
“I’m assuming the man your daughter has claimed for her dad is here today?” He asked.
“Yes, Your Honor.” You replied, glancing back at Bradley, smiling through your tears. You noticed, he was wiping his own away from his eyes, smiling right back at you.
“I trust that you understand what an absolute honor it is that this little girl has chosen you to be her person?” The judge asked Bradley. “That her mother is putting her faith in you to be the father her little girl deserves?”
“I do, Your Honor.” He replied, “It’s not something I take lightly, Sir. I’d do anything, give anything to ensure both of them are taken care of, loved, and happy.”
“Will I be seeing you back in here at some point down the line to make your father title official?” The judge asked, smiling for the first time at both you and Bradley.
“I would love nothing more, Sir.” He replied, “But official paper or not, Gracie is my daughter.”
“Good to hear.” He replied, “Alright, Counselor, you can tell your client all parental rights are hereby stripped, effective immediately. Ms. Seresin, I know it’s been a long and rough road for you and that little girl. Once you walk out those doors today, it’s all in the past. Focus on the future and the life you’ve already started on building for you and Miss Gracie.”
“Thank You, Sir.” You replied, choking back a sob. It felt like the entire weight of the world had been lifted from your shoulders. For the first time in a long time you could truly breathe. It was over. You had been freed from the nightmare, and now your daughter was too.
“Congratulations, Y/N.” Lauren said, pulling you into a hug, “It’s all over, Sweetie. You did it. Let’s get you all out of here and across to the conference room so you have some privacy.”
She ushered the four of you across the hall, back to the same conference room you’d been in prior to the hearing.
“I’m going to take care of filing these right now to give you all some time.” She said, “I’ll be back in a bit and we can go over the process to get her birth certificate changed.” She left the room, softly closing the door behind her.
“You did it, Tulip!” Jake said, pulling you into him and hugging you tightly, “You got our Princess G freed from that dickhead! I am so fucking proud of you, Y/N.”
You let him hold you, hugging him back just as tight. All of the lingering stress and anxiety from the last few months seemed to leave you at that moment, an intense feeling of pure relief washing over you.
“He can’t touch us anymore, Jakey.” You whispered, “We’re free.”
“You are.” He confirmed, “You’re so so strong, Tulip. You went in there and didn’t give that judge a chance to even think about deciding anything else. You are one hell of a momma bear. Princess G is so damn lucky to have you for her Momma.”
“He’s right, Y/N.” Phoenix agreed, “You were so fierce and strong this whole time. You’re so much braver than anyone I know… and I fly with some crazy ass people.”
You laughed, wiping the tears from your eyes.
“Come here, Sweetheart.” Bradley said, his voice rough from the emotions he was fighting back. Jake released you, stepping back to place his arm around Phoenix while you stepped into Bradley’s outstretched arms. He simply held you tight for several moments, just needing to have you close and feel you in his arms. You needed the same so you were content to just let him hold you.  “I love you so much, Baby. I can’t even put into words how proud I am of you for standing your ground in there today and not only speaking up about exactly what a useless piece of trash Trent is but for what you told the judge about me… and being Gracie’s real dad. I meant what I said to the judge too… I would absolutely make it official at any point, but papers or no papers, she’ll always be my little girl. I plan to keep showing up, and loving her, and her mom, if that works for you?”
“That works for me.” You replied, smiling through your tears, “I love you too, Bradley… more than I ever thought I was capable of. I don’t know how Gracie and I got so lucky but, no take backs. You're ours now.”
“Strict no return policy, so you’re good.” He chuckled, leaning down to kiss you softly.
“Alright!” Jake exclaimed, “Celebratory dinner tonight. Just us, then we can celebrate with the whole group tomorrow while we set up for the party on Saturday.”
“Sounds amazing.” You said.
“Ok, I’ve filed the paperwork with the clerk.” Lauren said, coming back into the room. “Next steps, Y/N you will need to take copies of all of these to the courthouse in the county where Gracie was born and file to change her birth certificate and name. Once that is complete a new social security card can be issued with her new name. It can take weeks up to several months depending on their backlog.”
“Is it something that can be done through the mail?” Jake asked, knowing you weren’t crazy about going back to Texas.
“Unfortunately, no.” She said, “It’ll be a good opportunity to go through the house and get anything out that you wanted and close out any bank accounts while you’re there though. Use it as the closure that it is, Y/N. Afterwards you don’t ever have to step foot in Texas again.”
“You won’t be going alone, Tulip.” Jake promised.
“Damn straight you won’t.” Bradley agreed.
“I feel as though it’s safe to say that you’ll never be without a strong support system again, Y/N” Laurent smiled.
After thanking her again and giving her all the information for Gracie’s party on Saturday you all said your goodbyes and headed out of the courthouse.
“I’ll see you all at the house tonight.” Phoenix said, once you were all outside. “I have to head back to base.Y/N, I’m so happy for you and Gracie. I love you both so much.” She stepped over to you, pulling you into a hug.
“Thank you so much for being here, Nat.” You said, hugging her back. “I love you too!”
“I’ll walk with you to your car, Sweets.” Jake said, “I’ll be right back.”
Jake walked with Phoenix over to her car while you and Bradley made your way to the Bronco. Before getting in, he pulled you into his arms, his head dipping down to claim your lips in a tender kiss.
“I love you.” He said, pulling away just enough to rest his forehead against yours.
“I love you too.” You replied, smiling. “Looks like we have a lot to celebrate this weekend.”
“So much to celebrate, Sweetheart.” He agreed. “And we’re just getting started.”
A/N: Phew! Thoughts?? Up next.... BIRTHDAY PARTY!!!!
JJ Maybank x oc / Soulmate AU / Topper x oc
warnings: none, if there are any let me know!
Word Count: 2k ish
Notes: Hi guys, sorry this is so long overdue. I was fighting with this one. But i really wanted to update this story. It’s not my fave but that’s okay. ** As always, reblogs and feedback is welcome and appreciated.
Masterlist - READ PROLOGUE FIRST :))
June sat at the piano she got for her 16th birthday. She had been saving up for years and finally had enough money for a keyboard. It wasn’t the same as the beautiful grand piano at her instructors, but it did the job. June nervously watched the clock tick down to midnight and tried to focus on the song she was trying to learn. If she came into lessons next week without having learned at least half of it she wouldn’t be on track to play at the recital in a few weeks. It was a big deal to her parents, and June too. The recital was on the mainland with tons of different kids from the surrounding areas. June had never gotten an opportunity to play and she wasn’t about to let worrying about her potential soulmate stop her.
She took a deep breath and began to play. As the minutes turned to seconds, June was gracefully gliding her fingers up and down the keyboard, trying to make sense of the melodies, allowing the notes to soak into the room.
On the morning of her birthday, June walked down the stairs into the kitchen to see a note and a box of donuts. It was Saturday, meaning both her parents were working and Olivia, her sister, was going to be sleeping the day away. June grabbed a powder sugar donut from the box and read the note:
Happy Birthday, Love! We can’t wait to celebrate with you tonight.
Have fun today, Mom and Dad
She smiles and folds the note up. June was just about to grab another donut when the doorbell rang. She looked at the time, 9:30. There’s no way any family member would be stopping by and Olivia’s friends wouldn’t show up unannounced. June opens the door to reveal JJ dressed in shorts and a light long sleeve t-shirt.
“Happy birthday Ju Ju!” JJ exclaims.
June rolled her eyes, “God, please don’t call me that.” She opened the door wide to let him in. The nickname originated from June’s younger sister. They were five years apart and she couldn’t properly say June’s name for quite a while. So from ages 5 to 8, she was Ju Ju.
“Nah, I think 18 is the year we bring it back,” JJ said, slinging his arm around her shoulders.
“Absolutely not,” June says, tapping his cheek lightly, “Thanks though.” He smiles as she jumps up onto one of the stools in the kitchen, “what’s up?”
“You, miss birthday girl, have very important places to be. Go get dressed.”
“Where exactly do I have to be?”
“Well, first, Kie’s and then,” JJ motions like he is zipping his lips and throwing the key away. June narrows her eyes causing him to throw up his hands in defense.
“Okay, fine, but don’t eat my donuts!” June runs up the stairs and begins to get ready. She decides on a blue tube top, shorts, and a white cropped jacket. She runs a brush through her hair and packs her swimsuit and a few other things in a drawstring before going down the hallway to leave a note for her sister. She tells her where she’s going to be and to call when she gets up.
JJ and her drive to Kiara’a in his truck, the windows down and the radio stuck on the same channel it’s been on since he got it. They’ve learned to tolerate it. JJ was so proud of the truck when he first showed the pogues. He had gotten a busted down pickup from some guy on the island and fixed it up pretty much by himself. The rest of them promised to never make fun of it.
“Happy Birthday!” The pogues yell when June opens the door. She can’t contain her laughter. Everyone is wearing pink sparkly party hats. Kie instantly comes over to her, throwing her arms around her neck, “baby is eighteen!” June squeezes back and accepts a hat identical to the rest and hands one to JJ who shuts the door behind them.
“Looking good, boys.” June laughs at Pope and John B posing in their hats.
“It’s the required attire didn’t you hear?” John B asks, kissing the top of June's head and Pope slinging an arm around her shoulders. They lead her through the kitchen and the sliding door to the outdoor patio. The lounge chairs are set up along with string lights and a birthday banner. It was perfect. The whole thing, being with her favorite people, the perfect weather.
“You guys didn’t have to do all of this.”
“But you deserve it. You’re always the first to do anything for the rest of us,” Pope says.
“He’s right, Juney,” Kie says, smiling.
“You’re a bunch of saps,” JJ says plopping into a chair.
After spending the morning and early afternoon hanging out in Kie’s backyard, the five piled into the van and headed down to the beach. The boys were in the water before June could even set her stuff down. It was arguably not warm enough to swim, but that didn’t stop them. Kie and June decided to layout, occasionally sneaking a few drinks from the water bottle filled with alcohol.
“So how are you feeling about the whole soulmate thing?” Kie asks, bumping her shoulder against June’s.
To be honest, June had forgotten all about it. She could barely sleep last night she was so nervous, but now that it could happen whenever, she felt much better.
“Honestly okay.” She admitted.
“Do you think you already know who it is?”
“I mean that happens more often than not, right? Just look at our parents.” Kie’s parents had known each other in high school, having grown up on the island, but didn’t know they were soulmates until later down the line. That happens all the time. Whether or not it’s just coincidence or really is fate, June hadn’t decided yet.
“I guess you’re right.” She paused before speaking again, “I don’t think I want to already know them. I don’t want to marry someone we went to high school with and be stuck here only for our kids to end up the same way.” Seeing Kiara open up like this made June wonder about her own future.
“Don’t worry Kie, you’re gonna go somewhere cool like Australia and stop the wildfires and clean the oceans and fall in love with some really hot girl and leave us all behind forever.”
She moved her sunglasses off her face to hold back her hair, “I could never leave you, but you really think so?”
“Of course. You’re going places. John B, JJ, and I are gonna be stuck here smelling like fish bait until we’re 80.” June gags.
Kiara laughs, making a disgusted face, “what about Pope?”
“Nah, he’s too good for this place.” They both laugh so hard they don’t even notice the boys had made their way back to where they were laying.
“What’s so funny?” John B asks, shaking out his hair.
“Nothing,” Kie says with a smile on her lips. The boys share a knowing look before dropping it altogether. That’s when June’s phone chimes with a message from her sister.
Mom said to make sure you were home soon for tonight. We’re almost all set up here.
I guess Aunt Morrane is coming:/
“No,” June groans at the last of Olivia’s message.
“What’s wrong?” JJ asks, sitting down next to her.
“My Aunt is coming to dinner tonight.”
“The horror!” John B mocks.
“Stop! I’m serious. She’s a nutcase.” June replies, throwing a towel at his face. He catches it in one swift motion.
“Ju it’s gonna be fine.” JJ said reassuringly, “I’ll drop you back off.”
The pogues only stayed a little while longer before packing up their stuff into the van and parting ways once back at Kiara’s.
“I won’t have any fun without you,” Kie begged before June got into the truck.
“You’re gonna be fine.” The rest of the group was going to the first official kegger of the summer. June always missed it. She was sure she would hear all about it tomorrow when she would stop by the chateau with a bunch of water and ibuprofen in the morning to make sure they were all breathing.
“Hey, thanks, J,” June says when JJ had pulled up in front of her house.
“No problem,” he starts. June reaches for the door handle, “actually, I got you something.”
Surprised, June says “You didn’t have to get me anything.”
He waves her off and reaches into the glove compartment, pulling out a bracelet, “uh. It’s not wrapped or anything.”
June examines the bracelet, it was a brown braided string with a single pearl threaded in the middle.
“I love it.”
“Really?” JJ asks, scrunching up his nose, “because it’s okay if you don’t I just thought-”
“No, no I do. Thank you,” June says and reaches up to kiss his cheek. Just then there is a loud pounding coming from the passenger side window, causing June to startle and drop the bracelet. Both June and JJ lean in to grab it off the floor of the car and smack heads. “Shit, sorry”
“Ow!”
JJ finally grabs the bracelet and hands it back to her before they are both faced with Aunt Morrane opening the door and practically dragging her out of the truck.
“You know,” her aunt starts, “darling, everyone is waiting inside.”
“I’ll just be one second, I promise.” She says flashing a smile to her aunt and pleading eyes to JJ. He tries to hide his laughter.
Aunt Morrane locks arms with June and begins walking up to their sidewalk, quite literally dragging her by her feet, and begins talking about this show she was watching.
“Happy Birthday, Ju Ju!” JJ yells from the truck. June tries to flip him off as discreetly as possible with her aunt still gripping on to her.
At the door, her mother engulfs her into a hug, “Happy 18th, love.”
“Thank you, mama.”
“Was that JJ? You know he could've come in. We have enough food.”
“It’s okay, Mama, he had plans.” That satisfied her enough as she went to close the door and straight back into the kitchen. June took off her shoes and that’s when she heard it. It only lasted a minute and she couldn’t recite it if she was asked, but it was there. Faint, but clear. Just how Pope had described it. Just how everyone had described it. Her soulmate.
