Over-analysing the books we saw referenced in Season Two (which I watched all in a go last night from 11pm to 4am and therefore am a little hazy on). If someone has already done this I bow to thee I just couldn't find you.
It's not reflected in my blog but one of my main special interests is Good Omens (and has been since I first read the book, a bit before season one was released) y'all I am ugly crying over the season two finale. If I've missed any books I'll just edit I guess I don't have access to the show anymore so I can't double-check anything. I KNOW Muriel was reading a book that wasn't The Crow Road but I cannot for the life of me remember what it was.
The Colour of Magic - Terry Pratchett (under I for In): On a surface level, it's a fantastic little nod to Mr Pratchett, the book that started the Discworld, and, to top it off, one of the best covers in existence. Funnily enough the same edition we always stocked when I worked in a bookshop but that's not important.
On a deeper level, think about the plot in bare-bones terms. Incredibly na茂ve tourist from an other-worldly place shows up in a grimy but incredibly magical city with a very odd box and spends his entire holiday with a wizard who is bad at magic. It ends with the tourist floating off into space to go see other worlds. Sounds familiar, right? I'm shaking this season like a small child with a maraca and I am chewing the plot until it is tasteless.
The Crow Road - Iain Banks (under I for It): Look, this one is so obviously significant that multiple people have done it already but I'm adding layers. Crowley gives it to Muriel in the last episode, I'm sobbing, but it's actually first referenced by Gabriel when he's "sorting". The tile is a fairly common metaphor for death, such as he's away the crow road. Other than the fact that it's literally part of Crowley's name, crows are a death omen. He gives it to Muriel for so many reasons and I don't know how it was intended originally but they're curious about humanity and The Crow Road contains one of the most fundamental parts of being human - asking too many questions.
Also, The Crow Road contains a lot of themes centred around death, mystery, and quite a bit of questioning of religion. It could be interpreted as a tell towards Crowley's real feelings about the finale. Metatron is death for him, as a demon, and he's just taken Aziraphale away to "chat". Remind me to actually write down my interpretation of the finale some time.
Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen (under I for It): See, this one has actual plot relevance and therefore is explained in the show so I don't really think it needs an explanation. However, it is a neat little plot device to show how Aziraphale and Crowley have had very very different experiences with, and therefore perspectives on, Jane Austen herself. I think that's a pretty good way to show how they think and differ from each other in their shared experiences. Also, spitballing here, Crowley is Pride and Aziraphale is Prejudice. ("Of course you turned down Hell, they're the bad guys. Heaven is... good!")
A Tale of Two Cities, Book One - Charles Dickens (under I for It): Come on. This wouldn't need an explanation except, once again, chewing here.
"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..." is the only bit Gabriel reads out loud, but the rest is along those lines (give it a read, it's fun). All one sentence. I don't really think it needs a huge amount of explanation, except that to me Dr Manette is Gabriel. Quite a bit of the first book is about his release from jail (and, to top it off, he was there because he reported the abuse perpetrated by members of the aristocracy and was put away under a lettre de cachet, something signed by the King and at least one of the King's ministers which could not be appealed). He's briefly taken in by a former servant (who goes on to be instrumental in the Storming of the Bastille) and the man's wife, who own a wine shop together. I am going insane.
No, I did NOT forget Good Omens (under I for It): History repeats itself over and over and over -
I need to go drink some water but Mr Gaiman sir how'd I do.

So... I am slightly curious
What are your top twst ships?
Ahem, as one might assume, the highest, the greatest, the beloved, the best, the recipus, the amazing, the best of the best in my brain:
TreyKei.
Aka Trey x Cater. I'm so incurable ill about them, it's not even a joke anymore. There's only one ship who got me as equally bad and that means something. I can't even express how much I love them, it would be inaudible ugly sobbing.
Ahem.
Aside from that, I think FloRid is pretty neat, especially in a very specific way that I once thought of as a story and it hasn't left my brain ever since: "I can make him worse" + "I can fix him", in the way that Riddle slowly but surely becomes the rebel he deserves to be and Floyd follows the rules more - Both happens unintentionally. But most ideas between them are neat.
Let's see..
Oh, AppleJuice (Deuce x Epel)! Man, these two? Whew, Book 5 was their book and I was fully here for it. Also, the Rabbit Event? I have a lot of thoughts there, specifically based on Deuce and Epel but alas, that's for another time (maybe).
There's also smth very neat about Ruggie and Jamil. Not in the classic mlm romantic relationship, I see them as a Platonic Relationship. If you ask me, they go from 'we know each other' -> buddies -> besties, in an old married couple way -> "I got asked again if we're dating, lol" "Why don't we?" "What- You love me?" "Not in the Gay way but we could be platonic bfs?" "Do I get to steal your hoodies?" "... Fine" "Aight, bet". They give me a lot of aromantic vibes - Either because they're too busy to Love, too worried to Love etc etc.
I think that's the "top" of my fav ships that could classify as shippings. You see, I like a lot of dynamics (non-sexual/non-romantic) but not necessarily as the shipping (romantic and/or sexual) that people consider a "ship". My dynamics are often build on platonic/queer platonic relationships rather than love ^^
I used to really like LeoVil but it became "Eh whatever". Still prefer it over RookVil but yk, it's just a ship like the others. Personally, there are a lot of shippings/dynamics including Rook that are really neat - Under one condition: Lithromantic Rook. (Lithromantic: Being romantically attracted to someone until the target of affection has the same feelings for you in return).
I do support almost all shippings regardless my own preferences (unless you're being weird with the ships).

Sibling moments in the Bad Batch that live rent free in my head
S1E16 "Kamino Lost"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
No those aren't tears on my keyboard, it's its weekly salt bath
Here we are, the end of Season 1. You thought "Return to Kamino" was an angsty sibling machine? Buckle in kids
So so so many protect Omega moments just in the first 2 minutes
Crosshair waking up to them in a wrecked Kamino City has to be on similar energies as Obi-Wan waking up on the back of Anakin hanging from a chord in an elevator shaft with an elevator barreling down at them
Crosshair's "the audacity" face when Omega starts shooting the debris 馃槀
Crosshair gets a Wrecker shoulder shove 馃グ
"Aha our old room! Wai-what happened to it?" "At least the smell's gone" Echo's the neat freak sibling who won't stop shaming everyone
"All those missions together, and you threw it away" Crosshair, babe, you are literally trapped in a city underwater, now is NOT the time to hold a grudge
A+ "check your attitude" shoulder shove by Hunter to Crosshair
"You done complaining?" Wrecker squaring off against the hangry sibling
"All that time, you didn't even try to come back. We still would have taken ya" and the camera pan to the rest of the group sharing looks with each other 馃槶
Crosshair's face when Tech is explaining his nature to Wrecker is so soft (for Crosshair) and hopeful that someone is finally getting him but also so shocked that someone is actually giving him somewhat of a defense (even though Tech clarifies after with one of the best lines written by Star Wars)
Ep 14-16 are just Hunter's no good very bad day when you think about it
AZI is the best part of this episode I swear
Until they show me the head scan there is nothing that will convince me Crosshair had his chip removed this episode makes me believe that tenfold
Hunter and Crosshair's get along pod 馃槀馃槀
"I barely fit in this thing." "Quit complaining! At least you're not doubled up" Echo is so done with everyone
Hunter frantically looking for Omega 0.5 seconds after their pod surfaces
The AZI part makes me ugly sob every time
The firepuncher didn't have the suction cup attachments already in place before they got in the pods which means Crosshair realized Omega wasn't going to make it, went into action to put on the attachment, and then saved her
"You coming with us?" said with so much hope and Echo's face is cautious but curious
It's such a serious moment but Crosshair answering Hunter's final offer by just looking to the side, arms crossed and hips cocked is peak grumpy sibling who knows they're wrong but don't want to admit it and are scared of going back to either option so they go with what they're most recently familiar with but can't look anyone in the eye while he realizes
Me? Overanalyzing Crosshair? Shocking
"You're still their brother, Crosshair. You're my brother too" followed by Crosshair's dejected sigh as he hears the Maruader power up and watches it fly away someone shove me off a cliff honestly it would hurt less
Well babes, this was a fun run. Going to take a little break and then pick this up again with Season 2 mid-August! Hope you all enjoyed the reminiscing and taking in all the sibling moments - I know I certainly did

What my ocs would think after watching the Barbie movie
Song ocs:
Lily - *crying on her way out of the theaters*
Alex - "...oh." *cannot process a single thing but would stream the barbie album afterwards
Zach - "I am kenough"
Edward - "wait i don't get it"
Charlotte - "IM SEEING IT AGAIN OMG SO GOOD"
Rosella - "why did barbie and ken get arrested but not the guy who harassed barbie?"
Melody - "hm.." *trying not to cry*
Emmy - "hell yeah fuck the patriarchy!"
Jane - "it was so pretty!" Also she would wanr to buy all barbies and kens and Allan so she can make her own barbie land where they're all happy.
Ill-fated reality:
Marianne - she would have directed it
Damian - "I think it's anti-men.. but I'm not upset about it." *blasts I'm Just Ken at every chance he gets*
Elizabeth - *gets a sinking feeling in her during Gloria's speech*
Selene - it helped her embrace femininity and being a girly girl. Just be herself. Also she would be an irl barbie
Jake - feels bad for Ken
Noah - Is forced to wear pink by the girls- he thinks it's neat. He liked the choreographed performance
Catherine - "anti-christian movie. The feminist agenda will kill us all."
Frederic - "shit movie. Misandrist."
Hellaverse:
Mal - She cries because she never got to have a proper girlhood. Would buy a barbie doll that looked like her. She's healing her inner child deep inside somewhere. Ugly sobbed on the way home that Vox brought her ice cream and a Ken doll. He never judged her that much.
Neriah - best believe she dragged Azzy to the theaters in all pink. She loved it a lot.
Clara - now.. this girl's fav character is fr Gloria. Won her over in the monologue
E - "...meh." she does not know how to show humanity.
Folklore:
Amelia - "oh, that was great!" *stares off into the distance thinking "I don't know what to say.."*
Dalia - She finds it ridiculous crying over a doll but here she was. She was only crying because of empathy for women.
Frozenverse:
Ivy - she feels bad because she also made a weird barbie. She buys a barbie doll afterwards and she does not care how old she is she WILL buy barbie doll!
Ethan - "Ah so this is why the patriarchy hurts and affects both genders. I like how it uses dolls that says "you can be anything" as a concept. Kudos to the director!"

Everyone asked what I wanted to ask djdj I鈥檒l try and be more original but what was it about nategaar that made you drawn to them? Or alternatively, were they characters that you had written over the years and are they much different from when you first started writing them? (Can alternatively apply to any other character!)
I write pretty much every character radically different from how I wrote them back when I was first in the fandom, especially Skwisgaar and ESPECIALLY Charles. (There鈥檚 a Chuckles fic I wrote in like 2008ish that I live in fear of people finding because my read on Charles is just WAAAAAAY off the mark. In my defense I think I wrote it when Charles only had a handful of appearances so I didn鈥檛 have a ton to go off of, but still.) I鈥檝e even evolved a lot in how I write characters from when I first came back to the fandom in 2015-16! My Skwisgaar has gotten a lot softer and goofier, and my Nathan has gotten a lot broy-er.聽 Re Nategaar: They鈥檝e always been my favorites, and sometimes you just want your favs to kiss, ja feel? When I came back to fandom there was a little piece of me that really liked the idea of them, but I was mainly obsessed with focused on Skwistok. But as time went on and I became a lot less rigid with my shipping, I started to fall in love with the dynamic between Nathan and Skwisgaar. They just compliment each other so well. I鈥檓 genuinely surprised how much this pairing snuck up on me; I never thought any MTL pairing could ever come close to Skwistok but Nategaar is right up there. There鈥檚 just something beautiful about two best friends gradually falling in love over the course of several years and being completely content in that feeling without ever saying a word.

stress responses prompts
some characters deal with pressure well, some don't. i think it's a pretty neat how people channel/deal with stress. especially different kinds of stress. some people don't handle stress in a healthy or productive manner. it's okay to experience stress and imo it makes characters more human, but it's not okay for those characters to treat people like dirt because they're stressed.
baking - they make small treats, muffins, cupcakes, cookies, cakepops, etc. that they can share with others it helps them feel productive and helpful in a situation they don't feel in control of. it's a frantic sort of stress.
shut down - they don't handle stress, instead choosing to avoid it by procrastinating or ignoring it, which might make them more stressed. they isolate themselves from the situation and just wait it out, hoping it'll pass like a storm in the night.
working - they pour all of their focus into their job/current project in an effort to forget about their stress. they narrow down their thoughts so there's no time to overthink or spiral down. it helps them feel good, productive, like everything's fine and their stress doesn't exist.
"relaxing" - they try to take their mind off things by taking deep breaths and doing things that they'd usually consider calming (fishing, sightseeing, going to the beach, knitting, etc) and it just doesn't work. they can't stop fixating on their need to Do The Thing so while they enjoy doing those activities, there's this anxiety in the back of their mind saying to deal with it already.
journaling - they got into the habit of externalizing their feelings by writing/typing it down. sometimes they have trouble expressing how they feel, even if it's only ever going to be seen by them. they feel bad when they're not feeling good so sometimes they fib a little, a small lie to themselves. but they're learning.
crying - they just sob. a big ugly cry. to breakdown and express that they're upset enough to cry. and when they're done they'll wipe away the tears. maybe they'll sit for a while, empty almost. it's okay if they don't get back to work or solve anything. but it's not the end of the road for them, no matter how bleak (bc i'm an insufferable optimist).
snippy/angry - they dont handle it well. they get frustrated more easily and snap at people who don't deserve it. they make excuses that it's for the greater good, that it's okay because they should understand that they're under a lot of pressure. the regret afterwards, seeing how they walk on eggshells. the fear, genuine fear from people that trusted them. shimmering personalities dulled in an effort to not be noticed. whether they ever apologize for doing that, is up to their pride.
