i think the most plausible way this could happen is (no voldemort au) severus finishing school, and fleamont hears about him from a colleague of his, and so he ends up hiring severus as a potions apprentice for his business. (obviously not before severus accidentally crashes out and snitches about all the shit james has put him through at school. he doesnt care about whether fleamont believes him and if it would ruin his chances at an apprenticeship because he can fall back on the malfoys. and also he thinks james' parents are horrible horrible people because of the way james ended up turning out. but hes pleasantly surpirsed when fleamont takes his complains seriously. Wow, even albus dumbledore didnt do that! soo james ends up apologising to severus for all the things he put him through in front of fleamont. (severus doesnt accept it, obiously, and he doesnt have to!))

so, fleamont learns about severus' family and such, and hes extra fond of severus to try and make up for what james did to sev, and they both end up sharing alot about each other. fleamont hence also lowkey ends up spoiling severus with gifts and such (it drives james insane btw) and severus is smug and appreciative.

but then things really take a turn when euphemia passes away. fleamont and james are devastated, of course, and since a lot of fleamont's friends have lost contact with him/or have passed away, he forms an unhealthy co-dependant relationship with severus. well, it was already co-dependant, but it's worse now. and severus actually listens to his troubles (not that he can bring himself to take them too seriously because well, fleamont has rich people problems that he doesnt recognize are, well Only things rich people care about.) but severus does lend fleamont a listening ear, and hes not after his money. severus ends up helping out even more at the shop because fleamont is grieving.

one fine evening, severus is closing the shop for the night when he spots fleamont waiting outside. hes dressed very fancily, and seems well, nervous. severus leaves the shop to ask whats up and fleamont tells him he wants to take him out to dinner.

severus blinks. he laughs. "you forget yourself," he says, but he doesnt decline.

aaaand then they end up kissing when fleamont drops severus off and says goodbye for the night

james finds out, and hes LIVID. it's glorious, and severus doesnt regret a THING.

and LMFAOO severus does end up getting half of james' fortune AJSHSGDGDH

10. Describe their first date.

their relationship begins almost immediately after sol’s embrace sometime in 2000, but in my hc it isn’t until the summer of 2001 that they start going on what could be considered actual dates — you know like moments where they intentionally set aside the time to connect/flirt/explore, beyond their obligations to the Camarilla and finding their footing as Kindred, nailing a routine, plus all that critical initial schooling julian has to impart on sol. everything’s pretty casual and low-key because their financial situation isn’t great at the time and they are literally college age and way into dumb shit. also — fledgling nobodies.

i’m cheating like always and listing three because they touch on different things that i really like about them.. *locks the door with everyone inside*

their first official date is at an arcade in downtown Tucson — a tiny neon-lit haven of boops and beeps and “fuck”’s, open until 2AM. to summarize there is some very competitive air hockey — (did he just celerity that shit to win?) — and some very flirty resident evil co-op. i made them have a slightly more serious back-and-forth playing a racing game because im a freak for allusions and wanted to mirror a conversation that can happen later on in night road depending on choices. finally, they turn in their tickets and julian, true to form, picks out a pair of those hideous green luminescent vampire teeth as one of his prizes second date is not long after that, in the late summer: an all-night rave at a small college town out in the desert. other kindred are present here too. it’s sensory overload, but mostly they’re in their own world. there’s less talking/banter but it’s still fun i think; a little sexier and with visceral rhythm, while attempting a more classically vtm atmosphere. i say that and then at one point they’re out of the way, near strobe lights and julian whips out the glowing green arcade fangs :/ third date is in the late fall, more subdued and i suppose conventionally romantic in comparison to the first two (if blood bags squeezed into soda cans can be romantic), which is when they drive out to and wander on foot up through the grounds of Kitt Peak National Observatory, dodging a couple guards and staff after dark, for a sneaky vampire picnic. this date is quieter and more introspective for both; they talk about sol turning out to be caitiff here and wonder what happened during the embrace, and julian opens up a little about his own sire back in malaysia. it’s a nice one 🙂‍↕️

from then on all the way through to the late 2000s, whenever their camarilla duties and their own hunger were satisfied for the night—or when they had a rare evening free—they’d find ways to carve out moments of connection or intimacy. usually they’d venture into surrounding towns, sneak into late-night movie theatres or catch small gigs on campuses. 

more often though, i imagine their nights ended on the roof of their trailer, desert stretching out around them and the sunrise still hours away. julian would bring his laptop outside, playing music or tinkering with some hack or project. sol would sit beside him, head sometimes resting on his shoulder as they listened to whatever playlist he’d put together. he might show her something ridiculous he found online — a bonkers conspiracy theory forum, a stupid meme, or bc it’s the early 2000s, a video of cats doing backflips or something.

im so staunch in this hc and i think it’s fun because bloodlines’ ‘deb of night’ was inspired by this radio show, but i KNOW julian sim was calling into Coast to Coast AM with Art Bell. that motherfucker was spinning absurd supernatural bullshit with a completely straight face, claiming to be a vampire hunter or a time traveler. he’s sitting there describing in great bogus detail encounters with werewolves and ancient curses and a big desert-dwelling monster that lives under the Sonoran and eats immigrants, which at that sol probably stops laughing to snatch the phone and end the call 😭 ok they make me sick.

14. How do their personalities complement each other? How do they clash?

both have kind of intense, passionate personalities in opposite directions so there’s a lot of yinyang-ing imo

julian is big on his vision and ideals with a relentless focus on the future and his work – something which concerns sol. sol is infinitely more introspective and rational, intuitive and emotionally vulnerable of the two — something julian can find overwhelming.

for sol, julian brings more excitement and nuance into her sometimes overly pliant and “sheeple” mindset, and can pull her out of that obnoxious self-sacrificing schtick (get off the cross ladykinssss). likewise, julian tends to get tunnel vision, be callous or unintentionally cruel, and can end up way out of his depth — he benefits from having someone around who will yank him out of his own ass, because despite being the more logical of the two he’s not always thinking reasonably or clearly. this bitch of a neonate just has a whole lot of audacity and plans on top of plans and more plans.

which, yes, julian is good at ideas and putting them into action, and can be charming and funny, is this Machiavellian motherfucker in a gamer chair, but he’s not the most sensitive with emotions and people. sol has superior emotional intelligence and is definitely better at ingratiating herself with others; at being supportive and a chameleon and a mediator; at knowing when to curl up in a palm, and acknowledging/dealing with uglier feelings in general — a big proponent to her being used for 2100X in terms of gently interweaving kindred and kine enough that the Masquerade becomes obsolete — but in these things she struggles to find an identity, place, purpose. julian pushes her to be a little more free, a little more assertive, to have agency and think for herself and to think even bigger than that. which is ironic considering what he did lmfao but he’s basically this:

sol also sees through his bravado and posturing — she’s been there from the beginning — and as much as he dislikes how she can get under his skin with that, it also brings this strange sense of acceptance, stability, understanding and belonging that he often craves (and tries not to acknowledge) and lacks outside of their relationship (especially if you take into consideration what happened between him and his sire).

a lot of their clashing comes from sol being less willing than he is to take big risks, the fact that he has a childish ego and can be emotionally dismissive and manipulative, his hypocrisy and her resentment which kind of festers alongside the love — there’s always this twisted undercurrent of vindictiveness behind sol even when things are light and good between them. but they’re drawn to each other’s contrasting traits too: julian admires sol’s emotional depth and loyalty and ability to soften his focus, while sol admires julian’s drive and confidence.

ultimately, julian’s ambition and big-picture thinking do in fact push sol to take risks and embrace freedom, while sol’s attentive and deliberate nature helps julian stay connected to the present and consider the emotional impact of his and their actions going forward

38. Who is more sexually experimental? Who’s more vanilla?

julian’s the more sexually experimental of the two, while sol would lean slightly more "vanilla"—though with a bunch of exceptions bc she’s open-minded and crazy intense, and there’s a deep bond/emotional connection between them which makes her more adventurous. she is by nature sensual and possessive and will turn intimacy pretty dark depending on her mood, which is overwhelming at times.

julian is curious, unconventional, and thrives on novelty and intellectual stimulation, with a desire to explore and push boundaries, imo that very likely includes sex. sol probably built his confidence and how comfortable he is with it specifically as a vampire a lot in the beginning; she was the one to initiate despite him telling her it wouldn’t feel the same, and she was still eager to continue this aspect of their relationship for the next decade. now he’d be the first to suggest experimenting, wild positions and dynamics, incorporating tech/toys, exploring kinks or fantasies, etc. they both have a tendency to challenge each other too.

julian’s playfulness can bring a lot of fun and excitement and some weird as fuck situations, meanwhile sol’s focus is kind of on grounding the experience, making him present and engaged (she’s never been casual in her unlife)

Ooooooh, now THAT'S a toughie. And and all art of my fic would be recived with literal tears of joy, but let's narrow it down lmao. Discounting my horny ass just wanting aaaallll the art of my smutty side account fic (and tbh more horny art of the Cat King in general), I think it would be lovely to see art of Lonely Bones, considering how much time and feeling has gone into it and considering I think you could have a lot of fun with moody compositions. Somewhere Beyond the Sea is only on it's first chapter but especially from chapter two onwards it's gonna have so many fun and whimsical things/characters to draw! I'd also be an absolute GLUTTON for more of mine and L and H's 1920s poly boys as seen in Keep Me Warm, Love Me Long, Be My Sunlight, but that's a bit more niche!

If I had to pick one singular scene, I think I'd melt like butter if someone drew Charles in subspace getting therapeutically, nonsexually dommed by Edwin with silly cat's cradle games in ’Cause You Cut Through All the Noise. I'm so fond of that fic you have no idea.

Character voices!! I need to rewatch DBDA again soon to refresh my memory lest I drift into made-up voices but generally speaking I think my dialogue characterisation is pretty fun and believable!

I am looking forward to each and every aspect of the 1920s AU I'm working on with @dear-monday and @tw0-ravens, but especially the Thomas dialogue/arc/letters. I'm also huuuugely looking forward to writing my Edge Chronicles AU, but mostly for the world, vibes and character backstories especially pertaining to Edwin -- I'm currently struggling a bit with finding the actual plot, though! I'm also SO excited for the rest of Somewhere Beyond the Sea, there's going to be so much fun and whimsy and fantasy and sweetness, I'm really excited for the bits I've added as well as the bits I'm adapting from the source material!

It was freezing cold in the prowlgrin roost. Maybe not up in the nests and the roosting poles, where the big old beasts dozed by the light of the burning braziers, the lucky sods. But down in the straw and the muck the winter chill was biting, creeping through every crack in the ancient slats. Charles was huddling down pathetically, dragging the ratty old prowlgrin tarp tighter round his shoulders, when he heard a creak. Louder than the wind through the slats, slower. The door. He froze, holding his breath. The air had... changed. It was crackling with something, making Charles' hair stand on end. And then, footsteps.  Charles shrank back, tried to make himself small. But the shape that stepped into the roost wasn't any boy that he knew — anyone who might be looking to finish what they'd started. It was... strange. It was like looking at those old barkscroll woodcuts from way back; those odd, early academic knights with the leather armour, all tooled and riveted. Like something out of a fairytale. It looked at him, right at him, and pulled off its leather helmet and underneath was just… a boy. Not like any boy he'd seen, though. Pale, worryingly so, and gaunt, eyes the most piercing blue he'd ever seen; unearthly, iridescent. Like open, uncharted sky. "I was looking for the library," said the boy, softly, hoarsely, like he hadn't used his voice in a good long while. "It used to be here, did it not?" Charles frowned, for a moment too confused to be scared. Of all the things to be looking for! "Not anymore, mate. Moved it 'cuz of the rot, didn't they? That was what, thirty years back or summit." "Thirty years..." he hummed like a rumbling storm. "Right. If you might point me in the right direction — I have some very important reading to do.” Charles was starting to think the dunk in the lake had frozen his brain. "It's three in the morning,” he said, baffled. The boy knelt before him, and raised his hand. Charles watched, horrorstruck, as his long, slender fingers lost their shape and stretched, vaporous, into elongated strands of crystalline cirrus. "It is rather pressing," said the boy, deadpan.

i finally started reading the high republic books! i finished light of the jedi last night, so here are a few of my (non-spoilery) thoughts:

jedi doing cool shit with the force is my favorite thing and there is SO much good jedi doing cool shit with the force content

also the way the force was described was just, really beautiful. it's been a while since any visual star wars medium has really made me feel in awe of the force, but this did the job so well.

the little worldbuilding aspects were really cool. (hypserspace travel still being developed, bacta isn't mass-produced yet, etc.) this book was just a really nice reminder about how cool and strange and fun the star wars galaxy can be (when actual effort is put into making it that way)

on that note, god it felt good to have good star wars content. like this was SO. GOOD. (and i'm so so excited to move onto the next books, but i kind of didn't want this one to end bc charles soule is such a beautiful writer. and he made every pov interesting and engaging; i was never bored)

i think maybe my favorite pov to read from was bell's. he made me laugh, and soule wrote him in such a way that was youthful but not childish, and it was just such a joy reading his pov. i felt so connected to him immediately, and was so proud of him by the end of the book! can't wait to see where his story goes. (also i love his and loden's relationship and i have SO many feelings about the end of the book like..... iykyk.)

avar and elzar. avar and elzar. AVAR AND ELZAR. they've got me down so. bad. help.....i love both of them individually, and their dynamic together is everything to me actually. (i have so many more thoughts on them, but i’ll come back to them later)

another bullet point to again say how much i LOVE jedi doing cool shit with the force, and relating it to elzar and a) how he describes the force as an endless sea.... yeah. i'm in love w that description; and b) him wanting to push boundaries, explore all that the force is capable, is just really really cool.

the epilogue. I have not stopped thinking about it. like i got yearning and terrifying force visions all in one chapter?? charles soule did that for ME <3

i'm reading the main books for phase one in order, so next up is test of courage, then into the dark. (even though i reallyyyy want to just go right to the rising storm lol)

Bradley is a detective, yeah, and does undercover work too, BUT one day he's assigned to a new partner for a special case. (Phoenix being his BFF & usual partner <3)

This new partner though? Tall, Tanned and Texan. He's charming, very much cocky, and scarily smart. And Detective Bradshaw doesn't stand a fucking chance.

He tries to get close to him, but Detective Hudner is tight-lipped. Seems to stay focused on the case, and the case only. And Bradley can understand that (makes him all hot and bothered to watch Detective Hudner biting his lip and reflecting on possible suspects). Still they work and close the case in the end.

The day after, Detective Bradshaw goes to his temporary partner's desk to see if he's available for a drink or sth (😉).

Except there's too much activity going on in the precinct. Very unusual.

This is when he's called by Chief Detective Simpson in his office and learns the truth.

There never was a Detective Hudner.

It was a cover for one Jacob Seresin, the Mobster Boss' son from the Cavalieri della Morte gang. Never once spotted before. Always working in the shadows....

So, why this sudden interest in a more exposing job that is working for the local police? What is Seresin's true motives?

And more importantly, what will Detective Bradshaw do with this piece of information?

Toga: forever quest to break the belief that romantic love is the purest love starts NOW. she feels like every type of attraction at 500% break the counter kinda intensity but romantic love is completely just Not There. which is why she "falls in love" so quickly, and why her criteria is so based on appearance and how roughed up and bloody someone is. I think she never could unlock the quirk copy part of her quirk until Ochako because she never had the occasion to truly get to know someone, and with Ochako and Twice mostly she could actually get to know and like/love someone based on their personality and their actions as well as their appearance and such. Power of friendship or something. The rest of the league helped her with that too, she truly liked Magne and Touya like older siblings and she admired Tomura to an extent (on top of liking him for being a good boss). Mr Compress is that kind of adult figure in your life that's a bit embarrassing but that's cool to be around anyway. Like your cringe middle aged colleague who understands half of what you're saying and calls you miss. I also think her being aro adds to the part where everyone called her broken because she wasn't able to love like everyone else. The way she loves is wrong and bad and dirty and she hates that. anyway, generally i like saying ochako is aro rather than toga but god the queer allegory DEF can be an aro allegory with her and i love saying characters who r so based in love and romance are aro. it's always fun

Dabi: literally cannot seriously ship him with anyone in my mind's eye anymore he's too aro. might be aplatonic too honestly but i feel that could just be how focused he is on his goal and how little he (tries to) care about others. i'm not here to make friends or something whatever. Aromantic aplatonic dabi is a banger either way. i think he'd be like fraysexual too maybe. i think dabi fucks tho like undeniably he fucks

Ochako: HELLO. HELLO !!!

So I'm gonna make a post specifically for her but like. Aro ochako to me is expanding on the comphet izuocha headcanon not only is she doing compulsory heterosexuality she is doing compulsory alloromanticism too (if that's a thing idk. you get the point). i think shed be so used to girls loving boys and people loving someone, always, anyone, as long as they love someone, that she would latch onto whatever feelings she found for izuku and when her "crush" was somehow validated by aoyama and mina, she would completely sink into it. and then she meets toga, who loves differently, who preaches being yourself no matter what, who refuses to call herself broken or even different, and she'd be fascinated by her. even beyond the desperate need to save her and the need to get to know her and talk like normal girls, she'd see this girl who can smile so happily about the way she loves people, and she'd be jealous to death. she wouldn't even get by the "i must be in love with her" stage at all either she'd just know. in my mind's eye i imagine togachako fight where ochako tries to explain to toga that she loves differently too that she's weird and oaughhh.... sorry obsessed with this
