Anniversary Tournament
Last year for Doctor Who's anniversary I ran a tournament between Doctor Who stories, and I wanted to so something different again this year. A tournament between real people important to the history of Doctor Who, actors, writers, producers, directors, composers, production designers. Technically it'll be a tournament for the most infuential person to Doctor Who and its development over the years, but really I want it to be a celebration of all of these people, and not just the winner.
To that end, the nomination form, you can also submit nominations normally, ie sending me an ask or replying to this post, however I won't be accepting propaganda through those methods.
I'm thinking I'll close nominations on the 18th of November, that might change but probably not by much

Catching sight of her sister making her way towards her date, the youngest Piper rolled her eyes and shook her head. No doubt was Marnie about to drill into Binx and see for herself if he was good enough for Sophie. Not only that, but she was aware that even after telling Marnie that things were better between her and Binx now, and he explained why he had ghosted her for an entire month, her older sister still wasn’t happy with the guy over how he had treated her, and so if anything, Sophie hoped that after tonight, her sister would see why she gave him another chance. That said, with her date preoccupied with her sister, that left the young witch alone, but not for long as she smiled at the sight of a certain ginger.. “More like Marnie snatched him away.” She replied, rolling her eyes once again. As Luke got closer, the brunette raised an arm and gave him a half-hug. “Everything’s fine— she’s just making sure that Binx is a good match for me after what happened before between us.”
Now that Luke was no longer living in Halloweentown, he was enjoying getting to know Marnie's family better since he was able to see them far more often. Before, he only got to see them for short periods of time when they came to visit their Grandma. He came around to the mortal world perfect time for Marnie's favorite holiday, and it seemed that Luke and Marnie weren't the only two on a date tonight. Noticing his date's protectiveness over Soph tonight, Luke figured he could check on the youngest Piper sibling himself when he got the chance, noticing her alone for a moment with her date nowhere in sight. That was strange. "Don't tell me you scared him off already," Luke teased as he came up to Sophie, a smile present. "Everything alright? Your sister's worried." @itsscphiie

Meme: “anytime i get even remotely spooked , i just look to the monkey with the sunglasses.” | @woundedwrldd
Sophie paused what she was doing and looked at Kirei. Did she just hear them correctly? “Excuse me?” She definitely needed some clarification on this statement. “You look to the monkey with the sunglasses? First, why is he wearing sunglasses? Two, does he wield any power? Three, where is this monkey?”

An Ending Within-Ch. 16
Chapter 16
“No fucking way,” I said, looking at Jon as if I couldn’t believe what he’d just said to me. “Seriously?”
He grinned, running a hand over his gingery hair. “Yeah, she told me two days ago.”
I practically jumped from my seat and threw myself at him. My arms latched around his neck, hugging him so tight that I was sure he was going to stop breathing. I couldn’t stop laughing or crying.
“Congratulations,” Seth said from nearby. I could tell by the tone of his voice that he was grinning. “Do you know yet?”
I leaned back with Jon’s face still cupped in my hands. My gaze searched his cornflower blue eyes. I knew Jon well enough by now to know when he was telling the truth and when he was lying.
“It’s too early,” he replied shyly. He grinned in a way that reminded me of late nights on the road and heart-to-heart talks in a hotel room at three in the morning watching crappy cartoons.
I hugged him again, kissing his cheek dramatically. “I hope it’s a girl.” The words were whispered almost silently, barely loud enough for him to hear.
Jon wrapped his arms tight around me, squeezing until I thought my ribs would crack. It was the happiest I’d been in an awfully long time. “I hope so too.”
***
Sefina giggled as I pushed her along backstage. It was strange seeing everyone again after almost a year away. Vastly different from the moment when I left because of my injury. A few of them turned down different corridors, refused to look at me. But most of them smiled happily, waving, and coming over to coo over Sefina.
“It’s good to have ya back,” Becky said as she gathered me up. She hugged me hard. “It hasn’t been the same out here without ya.”
Before I could say a single word, she swept around to the front of the stroller and grinned at her goddaughter. Her voice lifted, turning beautiful and lilting as she spoke. “Dia duit, mo chailín grin.”
Sefina giggled and reached for Becky. I watched my daughter wriggle with happiness, practically begging to be picked up. “Oh, go ahead. She’ll be whine for hours if you don’t.”
A moment later, Becky had Sefina on her hip and was heading toward catering. I watched them walk away, my daughter chattering at her godmother happily. Not long after, happy voices erupted from the lined tables. It wasn’t hard to discern Alexa, Bayley, and Sasha’s squeals of joy at seeing my daughter again.
“Llane,” someone said from some distance away.
Chills.
Spikes and ice.
Shivers and terror rooted deep in my gut.
A heavy weight settled against my chest, making it hard to breathe. The urge to run shot adrenaline through my limbs. It took everything I had not to give in.
I turned slowly, hoping that I didn’t look as completely terrified as I felt. My thoughts swirled, picking out glimpses and snapshots of the time before Sefina. Hospitals. Braces. Surgery. Numbness and pain.
Ten feet away, Ronda stood with her arms crossed over her chest. She was dressed in jeans, boots, t-shirt, and that jacket that always made rage burn in my throat. Piper’s jacket was too good for her. Looking at her made my blood pressure spike.
I didn’t want to be in the same room with her. Hell, the same state.
My tongue stuck to the roof of my mouth as I tried to speak. I could feel the words trying to put themselves together, to tell this woman exactly what I thought of her. To tell her everything she’d taken away from me. Before I could, the familiar sense of electricity crackled along my spine. I sank back even before Seth touched my waist, knowing that he would catch and hold me. He slipped one arm around my waist and quickly steered me down another hallway, leaving the woman who nearly killed me far behind.
“What the fuck is she doing here?” Seth growled. His fingers tightened on my hip as he guided me into his locker room. I could feel the rage seething beneath the surface. His entire body vibrated with it.
For a moment, I thought that was the reason why my entire body was shaking.
The moment I reached it, I sank onto the bench. Ice slipped through my blood, crackling against my veins. Dizziness swept over my head. The world swirled, leaving me numb and frozen. Nauseated.
“Hey,” Seth cooed, crouching down in front of me. “Hey…. Llane… Sophie… it’s okay. It’s okay. I’m right here.”
The shivering made my teeth rattle. I ached all over. I couldn’t catch my breath long enough to ask him what was happening to me. “Co—Col—Colby…”
The rage in his face faded, became replaced by concern and worry. He dragged his gear bag closer and dug around in it. He found a sweatshirt, then tugged it roughly over my head. Another came out a moment later, and he wrapped it around my legs. Then he sat on the floor and pulled me into his lap, his hands rubbing furiously over limbs and my back to warm me.
“I want you out of here,” he mumbled against my hair. He hugged me close, curling me tightly against the bulk of his chest. Slowly, moment by moment, heat worked its way into my body. “Goddamn them for bringing her back after what she did.”
The air was rent by a sudden loud bang. The door burst open, ringing against the wall with a thud. Roman stalked in, his dark eyes nearly black with pure and unadulterated rage. His movements had an edge of violence to them as he crossed the room in just a few steps. Seth barely had time to protest before Roman leaned down and swept me up into his arms. I curled against his broad chest, breathing in the warm scent of ocean spray that always followed him. He clutched me tightly, his cheek against my hair.
For a moment, there was something like peace in my chest. It felt like I was back in our old, beat up SUV, Roman sitting at my side and telling me stories in that soothing voice of his. Seth was there, driving and singing along to the alt-rock on the radio, while Jon—back when he’d been my Dean—slept in the passenger seat, drooling on the window.
“I’m going to kill them,” Roman snarled, his arms tightening even further around me. I could feel the thunder in his words. “I am going to rip them apart with my bare hands. Every single one of them. Starting. With. Fucking Vince.”
I whimpered at the rage in his voice. For the first time in years, I slipped back in time. Past Seth and Sefina. Past the Elite and the Shield. Past Hannah and Carl, Georgie and Bran. Past the sensation of being safe and loved. Past everything that made me feel worthy and like a human being.
It was so clear, so real that I could almost reach out and touch the faded fabric of the sofa next to me. The blood was hot and sticky in my hair and along the side of my throat. Pain lashed through my face with every sluggish beat of my heart. My eyes were already swelling shut, the flesh of my face mottled purple and black, the stark white visible along my right cheekbone and the curve of my chin. It was darker every second. A shadow lengthened over the sofa, backlit so that I couldn’t make out the features.
“Fucking kid. I’ll fucking kill you.”
I knew this moment.
This was the moment when I almost died.
A scream rippled through the room. I flailed, wailing and thrashing. Arms tightened around me, a cage that made my terror spike. The memory of my foster father nearly beating me to death merged with the haze of the fall and everything that came after. I couldn’t breathe, couldn’t see.
“O fea lou tuafafine laititi?” The words washed around my head, flitted through my brain. They came and went and came again like water lapping higher and higher on the shore. “Come on, itiiti, open your eyes.”
“Llane… Sophie…” Another voice slipped in with the other, a voice that made sparks flicker along my limbs. “Look at me, Sophie. Look at me.”
Fingers pressed against my face. I flinched, the memory of broken, exposed bone and bruised flesh too powerful. The screaming became a whine and then a faint whimper. Movement triggered vertigo that roiled my stomach. I coughed. I heaved and choked.
My eyes fluttered open at the same moment that I vomited. I gagged as the scent hit me. It took a moment for Seth’s voice to pierce through the ache and sick. Roman’s followed soon after.
“Relax, itiiti. Relax and breathe. It’s okay,” Roman said softly. He carried me back to the bench and sat me down slowly. “It’s okay.”
Seth carefully pulled the sweatshirt over my head carefully, doing his best to contain the vomit. I watched, still trembling, as he balled it up and tossed it into the garbage. “Are you okay?”
I tried to speak, but I couldn’t make the words come out. My jaw worked, trying to force them free.
“I can’t believe this,” came a voice from down the hall. A series of stomping bootsteps echoed toward us, and I had another momentary flash of panic. Not a second later, Becky appeared at the door, Sefina on her hip. Alexa, Bayley, and Charlotte were right behind her. She was livid, her face almost as red as her hair.
“That bitch has no right to be here,” Alexa snarled. She was the kindest person in the world until someone crossed the people she loved. “I have half a mind to jump her and not hold back.”
It took a moment for them to take in the scene in front of them. Becky handed Sefina to Bayley and crossed the room. “Don’t you worry, Llane. We’re not letting her get away with this.”

Ozlander Fan Gathering 2020 - The Rik and Sophie Show
I attended Ozlander in Melbourne. What an incredible weekend so would like to share my Ozlander experience with you. Of course, it was during the very early days of covid-19 which I’ll address shortly. I’d never met any of the cast before, nor any group of like minded fans. Of course, you are usually lucky to know anyone who watch the TV show (not counting a partner) in your circle of friends let alone personally know a group of fans to chat with. It’s funny though, I’m not sure what I expected, but I thought people would have in depth discussions about OL characters/plots during coffee breaks or in line ups for autographs/photos. I didn’t experience that. I think it was a given that we were all deep into OL. Instead, I found we just chatted and got to know each other, ‘Where are you from?’ etc. As this was the first formal Outlander convention held in Australia, this was big news. I bought my ticket the day they were available (Nov 2019). It was a long way off but I knew the gathering would occur a short time after the first few episodes of Outlander S5 were broadcast, so when S5 started airing, my anticipation grew. Prices were steep admittedly, but a number of us felt it may be the first and last opportunity to meet a cast member, so we did what we could to get there (i.e. sell the healthiest child, blackmail the rich, etc).
Article from “The Scottish Banner” Feb 2020.
Unfortunately, 4 weeks out, Ed Speleers withdrew due to work commitments but local, David Berry, was announced as his replacement on the same day. Then 10 days out, Graham McTavish withdrew due to work commitments in Slovakia. No news of a replacement was announced (I learnt at the event that organising a visa etc with Covid-19 developing had made it nigh on impossible to organise a replacement in time). Ozlander organisers revisited the program and added extra value features to the various tiers. The gathering weekend was so close, yet seemed so far away in these uncertain times. Every day, I anticipated receiving an email stating it had been cancelled. I knew the organisers must have been pulling their hair out. Selfishly and as long as it was safe to do so, I was hoping it would still go ahead. The virus was not as advanced in Australia. Most of our relatively low number of cases were brought in by travellers (residents returning or tourists) from Europe/Asia before flying was cancelled. The Federal Government had restricted public gatherings to less than 500 at the time. Attendance was actually under 200. FYI, below are the global covid-19 stats as of 19 April 2020, a month later. Australia’s population is 25 million.
A few days after the Ozlander event, only crowds of less than 100 were permitted by the govt. We were so, so lucky!! Of course, that reduced further as precautions were implemented over time. We have self-isolation and a lot of business closures, cancellation of sports/entertainment etc. It is dreadful, but not a total lock down in Australia. We could walk dogs and make necessary trips to the supermarket, pharmacy, doctor or special court appearances. Anyway, just wanted to address this concern. ~ Tickets sold well (premium tickets sold out). I saw fans on sm stating the date of the event clashed or it was a bit expensive so I know more wanted to come. Yes, the cost was relatively high. Return airfares for cast, accommodation, plus I assume their appearance fee was always going to be an expensive venture, especially as our AUD had been declining sharply against the USD for some time. Australia can miss out on some things because of distance and a relatively small population, but overall, I think we have done well over the years. ~ Rik (Richard) and Sophie posted IG photos from Melbourne a couple of days before the event. Yay!! They were in the country at least, enjoying the sunsets, cuddling koalas and hypnotising wallabies lol. Sophie posted a selfie from a public toilet (bathroom) - as you do. See Sam’s comment below. Toilet paper was becoming a precious commodity....🤔
So the odds looked good and finally, Ozlander arrived.🥳 Before we took our seats, a lone piper slowly walked into the throng playing Waltzing Matilda (iconic Australian bush ballad) which segued into Outlander's theme song. Goosebumps! Applause all 'round. The piper was a big fan too.
What a thrilling start to proceedings. We took our seats and Meagan Taylor (the one who dared dream the dream), welcomed everyone. The age range of fans was predominately 40-65. We were excited and expectant. Housekeeping announcements focused on coronavirus precautions of course. Wash hands, use hand sanitiser when you can't, no handshaking and no touching the cast. This last request was a little disappointing after seeing photos from other OL cons, but it was quite understandable. I think we were just over the moon Ozlander went ahead so we were more than happy to comply and consider the health and safety of others. Then Meagan had the unenviable task of informing us David Berry had unfortunately cancelled his appearance due to health reasons. Yikes! What a shame. (David released a press statement 15 March(?) outlining his difficult decision. Sydney is Australia's Covid-19 hot spot, so David being a Sydneysider, had to consider this I guess). There are IG photos of David, Rik and Sophie together in Australia, just not sure where. So of course, it surprised everyone that David wasn't attending. Refunds of his meet and great and the re-jigging of tiers was to be announced on the fly. Then there were two, Rik and Sophie (and no pressure whatsoever!)🤪. Meagan then advised that the five panels across the weekend would be all audience Q & A which got a loud cheer. On with the show! The Rik and Sophie show! 🎉 They came on stage ready for a good time. Rik opened with 'G'day'. Great start I thought and continued his half decent Australian accent. It's a hard accent to imitate as we know. Rik's was a bit exaggerated but that was part of the fun.
‘G’day. ‘How are ya’?’
Sophie in an outfit she bought here. Same brand as Saturday’s dress that she brought with her.
Roger Mac is in da house.
I’ll admit, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I have seen Rik and Sophie in a lot of interviews, OL promos (talking to camera) and taking part on OL panels on YouTube. I can find their rapport a little strained and snarky at times. Luckily, I was very pleasantly surprised that their 2020 version was very endearing and entertaining. I think they’ve worked on this. I also think, that the spectre of Sam and Cait, through no fault of their own, does loom large at cast events. Therefore, it was great to see Rik and Sophie rise to the challenge of working the room in the absence of their cast mates. And I think they really relished this (albeit exhausting) opportunity and the small theatre made it a casual and intimate affair. They answered questions in an engaging manner and often expanded on it, citing on set examples, many I’ve never heard before, and I’ve seen a lot of OL interviews. Almost as soon as they came on stage, Rik was asked if he would play his guitar and sing for us. While flattered, I think it was too early in the piece and he said maybe he would do so during the weekend sometime. Alas, time wasn’t on our side so it didn’t eventuate. ~ Rik was asked if his hair ticks were under control (ep 501)😂. Combing his fingers through his hair, he replied in his strong Scottish brogue that most of them were gone now. Good sport. ~ He was told the OL bts photos he posts on sm (taken on set) were great and much appreciated and to keep them coming to which the audience applauded. I think he quietly enjoyed that moment. All creatives will take that, knowing their skills and hard work meant something to someone, much like our appreciation for OL and these sorts of events!
Then on to costumes, wigs and make up. It was thought that it must be nice to have your scalp/hair attended to in the makeup. ‘No, it’s not’ R&S said in unison.😂 Verra uncomfortable process apparently. The hair is flattened and held down with clips. The hairline edge of the wig is ‘glued’ to the top of your forehead and then alcohol is used to get the glue off after shooting, which dries the skin. Some hair falls out over time with this process also. We know this has happened to Sam to an extent.😬 Rik is hoping to grow his hair long enough so he doesn’t need a wig, which accounts for his current hirsute glory. ~ Sophie said they both share a make up trailer and added that Rik has a magic make up chair. Being early morning, he often goes to sleep in it and upon waking up, hey presto, it’s Roger Mac. At make up time, they do know if the other is a bit touchy, so they try not to annoy each other. Too much.😂 ~ At one stage, we were a bit shy in asking questions. Meagan said if this was in the US, there’d be a line up for the mic.😂
Ozlander Fan Gathering 2020 selfie.
~ Sophie responded to a geeky question about wearing wireless mics secreted in their costumes or hair as well using the usual overhead boom mics you see on bts videos. She was asked about her experience with ADR which she’s not a great fan of it. The audience asked, ‘What’s ADR?’ There are a few accepted terms in the industry, Additional Dialogue Replacement is one. It’s when some dialogue needs to be re-recorded late in post production if the original dialogue audio recording at the time is less than optimal for a variety of reasons (thanks Google). Sophie gave an instance when in S4, Bree told Claire she had been raped. The stream in the background got into the dialogue mics too much in this particular outdoor location, so Sophie had to re-record her dialogue (like lip syncing) saying exactly what she said at the time, whilst watching the scene on a screen in a recording studio. It’s hard to get the context and emotion of the scene back into your voice and that’s why some actors hate doing it and plead to have the original dialogue kept as much as possible. But ADR happens more than you realise and for various reasons (see Google). It is impossible to tell when you watch the show, what scenes have had ADR done, it’s blended so well. They would record the stream/ ambient sounds separately at some point and then mix it in lower against the dialogue after ADR is done. 😅
~ Sophie talked about her audition process and was sat down in an exec’s office and was told OL fans are very passionate! (we are?🤔😁). They have an idea of how book Brianna should look and Sophie confirmed she wasn’t tall enough, eyes the wrong colour, etc and that yeah, as expected, she received some not so nice things on sm. But she tried not to read too much of it and pressed on with the role of Bree. Her tone wasn’t sarcastic or indignant at all, but humble. I was impressed.
Queuing for photos with Rik or Sophie on this occasion. We weren’t allowed to touch but we all had a squirt of hand sanitiser (just to be super safe?).🤔
There were a few photo opportunities over the weekend and a bonus or two thrown in make up for the cast that couldn’t make it. A refund was offered for people with meet and greet tickets for David. However, R & S kindly offered to do a meet and greet for David’s fans instead and they happily accepted. Legends! I don’t know where they found the energy to be constantly ’on’ with so many people over the weekend. Chocolate? Youth? ~ As it was a small event, there weren’t any extra security staff that I could see. I think it was only the Museum staff and the security cameras which were hardly noticeable. ~ When getting my autographs, Rik and Sophie didn’t ask for my name, but when I read their personal messages, they had used my name (which they’d seen on my Ozlander lanyard. How cool is that? Very slick!). There were assorted costumes, the de rigueur wedding dress of Claire’s which added to the ambience. Of course, most of the audience were women but good to see a handful of men there, some even in kilts! Saw some Aussie Peakers in their MPC tees too. Cool.
To settle a pronunciation question, Sophie asked the audience after lunch, ‘Is it scone (as in, phone) or scone (as in, shone)?
An emphatic SCONE (shone) came back. Rik said “Oh, wow, a shouting(?) majority?’
Just to be sure, someone asked who lost, Rik pointed at Sophie. He didn’t gloat too much. Poor Sophie!
Of course, what would an OL event be without the cast having a drink or two to lubricate the tonsils (as we say).
Here are a few more tidbits. All the info I’m sharing has been gleaned from the panels and time spent with Rik and Sophie over the weekend as my tier allowed (which was a lot). ~ Yes, they had tried Vegemite (similar to marmite/promite), courtesy of David Berry. Sophie has some in Scotland. Onya Davo! (good on you David). Incidentally, Sam tried some when he was here in 2016 on Studio 10 (morning talk show - March 2016, his interview is on You Tube). It’s a thing. ~ Rik didn’t know if Sam’s whisky would be his cup of tea, but said it was ‘good actually’. ~ Rik was sometimes surprised by the particular take post production used for the show, but was more surprised by what was edited out of a scene (to add dynamics or guide the narrative a certain way which would apply to all productions everywhere). ~ The pyre scene with the Jesuit Priest at the Mohawk Village Ep 412 was hard to watch on TV. He said it was hard to watch them shoot that scene on set as it was so dangerous!😬 ~ Sophie very occasionally discussed the historical accuracy of things in a scene with directors ie. birthing stool or not in Ep 413 and 1960′s The Mashed Potato moves in S5 are different to how we know them now. She convinced the director’s on those 2 occasions. To me, it shows her passion for the show! ~ When asked about Bree meeting Jamie for the first time in S4, Sophie was asked about the eww factor but didn’t think about Jamie’s hand touching her face after he had relieved himself as he had only used a fruit juice bottle.🤣 ~ R & S were asked to respond to: ‘Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!’ And with relish they replied: ‘Oi, Oi, Oi!’. Someone did their homework. Cool. It’s a parochial call and response thing some aussies do at sporting events etc. ~ R & S often went for an early morning run. Before Sunday’s program began, Meagan asked us all to be very quiet. ‘That sound’, she said, ‘is Rik having his hair blown dry backstage.’ Laughter at Rik’s expense all round. Sophie came on with her’s still damp.
Graham McTavish ‘popped’ in from Slovakia to say hi and sorry I can’t be there. Rik and Graham had a good rapport. After some banter, the audience was now supposed to ask a question and GM rolled his eyes as he heard Rik’s voice again, this time asking him what he conditioned his beard with? ‘Well”, said GM, ‘well Richard, um, I, ahh (chuckle), I condition it with...., obviously a little bit of your love ..’. Much laughter in the theatre.
Then GM commented further, (which I missed, sadly), to even more laughter.
Who knows what would have happened had GM been at the event in person?! There is so much more I could share, but you get the idea.
Sophie wasn’t feeling the best during the last panel just before the close of the event, but she pushed through like a trooper. Rik said she had eaten too much chocolate. A weakness of Sophie’s. I think fatigue was catching up with both of them. They did so much.
Meagan presented Rik and Sophie with an Akubra (pron. uh·koo·bruh) each (iconic Australian outback hat) as a memento of their time here at Ozlander. Rik had the Crocodile Dundee style whilst Sophie’s was more demure. In his best aussie lingo, Rik said: ‘I’m Richard Dundee and this is my partner, Skippy (Sophie).’ (Referencing Skippy the bush kangaroo ? - a much loved Australian TV show 1968-1970).
The Scottish Banner article promised an intimate relaxed chance to get to know stars from the Outlander TV series and I’m happy to say that this is exactly what we got. Whilst it’s a shame we didn’t get to know Ed, Graham or David better, we certainly got to know Rik and Sophie better than we had ever anticipated. As a result, I see Rik and Sophie in a new light, esp in S5, where they have more scenes together. In a small way, I’ve gotten to know a little of the person that inevitably informs their TV persona (ie facial expressions, mannerisms, speaking cadence and inflections). What a memorable time I had (can you tell?). Thanks to Rik and Sophie, the gathering organisers (who got a special mention on stage at the close) and the other fans I met there. Thanks for reading this far on a rather lengthy post.😊 I know it’s my take on the weekend, but I’ve tried not to editorialise it, but present it, as accurately as I can, hence, it may be a bit dry to read.😅 I think Ozlander is a great name and I look forward to Ozlander Fan Gathering 2021.

Knock Me Out. 2
Hello! This is the second installment of this thing! Let me know if you want to be tagged in this thing and I’ll gladly add you! Anyways, same as always, the only warnings are swearing and mentions of sex. Hope you like it!
OCxOC, a Broadway Hamilton story. Jordan Fisher as Oliver Warner, Ellie Woods as Sophie Hill. 4.1k words
@angrylizardjacket
When I wake up in the morning, Oliver is still sleeping. We have somehow tangled our limbs together even more than they were when we fell asleep. I have no idea what time it is because I have absolutely no idea where my phone is but judging by the amount of sunlight, I’d say late morning. I lift my head to try and discern where I might have dropped my backpack or coat but the pounding in my head makes me regret that immediately.
As gently as possible, I extract my limbs from the tangle of sheets and Oliver, trying not to wake him. When I am finally successful, I slip away from the bed, collecting my clothes.
“Just where do you think you’re going?” Oliver calls from the bed, his voice rough and deep from sleep. I freeze in the doorway and turn to him, sheepish.
“I was just going to slip out before you woke up.” It sounds worse coming out of my mouth than I thought it would.
“If I wanted you out, I would have called you an Uber last night.” Oliver sits up and fixes me with a penetrating stare. “Unless you want to go.” He looks down at his hands, suddenly unsure of himself.
I drop my clothes and stride back to the bed, crawling on and right into his space. “It’s not that I want to go, its that I thought it would be simpler if I left and we just decided to forget it.” I watch his face fall and I take his face in my hands and force him to look at me. “That’s not what I want, but I do realize that we have a professional relationship inside of that theater every night and this stupid high school crush I seem to be developing might make being a professional with you hard.”
“I know, but I like this,” he says, pulling me into his lap. “I like you, warm and in my bed. I like the way being around you feels, like I can say what’s on my mind without having to question it. I’d like to have that around for as long as I can.” He whispers, moving some hair off my face.
I flush pink and lean forward to capture his lips in a soft and slow kiss. We eventually have to come up for air and I pull away to smile at him, running my fingers through his short hair. “I do need to change at some point,”
“I see nothing wrong with what you’re wearing right now.” Oliver shoots back, swiftly giving my appearance a once over.
“I can’t go to work like this,”
“Then don’t go to work.” I roll my eyes at that and kiss him once more.
“Coffee?” He pouts.
“Did you sleep with me just to get coffee out of me?” Oliver looks at me indignantly.
I laugh and shake my head. “I just really want coffee. I think it’ll help with the hangover, plus coffee is good for the soul.” He joins barks out a laugh and pushes me off of his lap.
“Alright, you shithead, let’s get you some coffee.” I get off the bed, pulling him up and into a short kiss.
“Let me just find my phone, I’ll be out in a second.” I find my phone shoved into one of my shoes and check the notifications I accumulated from last night. I have several from Piper wondering where I was, one from Lin and two from my mom. I quickly replied to my mom, telling her that everything was fine and that I had just slept late. I opened the message from Lin and tried not to groan.
Boss: You and Oliver sure left in a hurry last night. Have fun?
Me: You’re getting dangerously close to meddling Lin.
Boss: It worked last time, didn’t it?
Me: If you’re referring to Jaz and Ant then yes.
Me: Why are you bothering me on a Thursday morning, don’t you have a child to entertain?
Boss: He’s watching Chuggington so I’m free to bother you.
While I replied to Lin, I wandered out into the kitchen where Oliver was just finishing pouring two cups of coffee. “Do you have any-” he pressed the creamer into my hand and I put my phone down on the counter as he slid the sugar to me. “How the hell did you know?”
“Just kind of guessed,” he shrugged, turning to his fridge. “Okay, so there isn’t much in the fridge for breakfast so what do you say we grab breakfast and then we can swing by your place so you can change?” I added a bit of creamer and sugar to my coffee, handing them back to Oliver when he turned back around.
“I’d say that sounds great. I definitely can’t show up at the theater in what I wore yesterday or everyone will have a meltdown.” The mug is warm in my hands and even though Oliver’s apartment was by no means cold, having something warm pressed between my palms was comforting. I leaned against the counter across from him, feeling the cold surface of his counters through his shirt. “When do you want to leave?” I ask between sips of coffee.
“20 minutes?” He quirks an eyebrow at me and closes the distance between us. His hands settle on the counter on either side of my hips and I rest my hands on his chest.
“Sounds good to me, I don’t have to do much. I might have to borrow this shirt though.” I smirk at him. “It will feel less like a walk of shame if I’m not wearing the same shirt I left in.”
“You will never do the walk of shame from here. You can borrow whatever you want if it makes you feel more comfortable to get back to your apartment.” With that, he presses on a final kiss to my lips before stealing my coffee from my hands.
“I wasn’t done with that!” I squeak as he brings me back to the bedroom.
“We have to get moving, if you want food and more coffee that is,” Oliver declares, slipping on a pair of jeans. We dress in relative silence, throwing pieces of clothing that belonged to the other to them. I finished before him because I only had a few to find and put on while he also had to repack his bag for the theater.
“I’ll be in the kitchen when you’re ready.” He nods, looking for something on his desk and I slip out of the room. I head back to the kitchen and have finished my cup of coffee before he reemerges. I deposit the cup into his sink and grab my backpack before taking Oliver’s outstretched hand. It feels so strange to know that I met him less than 24 hours ago but everything just feels like its sliding into place, like a steadying presence I didn’t know I needed. His palm is warm against mine as we exit his building and head uptown to my apartment on the subway. I am already too comfortable in his space when the lunch rush traffic forces us to stand chest to chest on the A train. This is only reinforced by the fact that he slips an arm around my waist to keep me from falling when the train lurches to a stop at 181st. Resurfacing on the pavement, the warmth of the subway quickly dissipates, though my apartment isn’t too far.
By the time we reach my apartment, Oliver is breathing heavily and I am barely panting. “How are you not dying right now?” Oliver asks, bent over at the top of the stairs.
“I climb 6 flights of stairs every day, sometimes multiple times a day. I’m used to it. How are you dying right now? You do a Broadway show every day, sometimes twice a day. You should not have trouble with a few flights of stairs.” I deadpan, staring down at him in wonder.
“Alright, fuck you.” He straightens up, hands on his hips and still panting.
“You did. Last night.” I put my key in the lock and push the door open.
“I- I wasn’t- wow.” He sputters and follows me through the door. “I like your place.” He says, giving the living room and kitchen a cursory glance.
“Yeah, you can pretty much see all of it from here, though the bedrooms and bathroom are down the here,” I say, turning down the hall to my room. Oliver follows me to my room and plops himself on the bed. “By all means, make yourself at home,” I joke, peeling off my clothes from yesterday and dumping them in my laundry basket.
“Oh I will,” Oliver leans back and stretches out on my bed, burrowing into the pillows and generally looking cuter than he has any right to. I pull another pair of black jeans and a loose black long sleeve from my closet and slip the clothes on. I am just getting my head through my shirt when Oliver speaks again. “Can I have your phone really quick?” I give him a sideways look but unlock my phone and toss it to him before turning back and shoving my feet into a different pair of shoes.
“What are you doing?” I ask, hopping around to get my foot in my black high-tops.
“Adding me to your contacts. I don’t know why I didn’t think about it earlier.” He tosses my phone back to me and I shove it in my back pocket as I lace up my shoes.
“So, breakfast? It’s more like lunchtime now. When do you have to get to the theater?” I ask, checking my watch.
“I want to be on my way there at like 5. So, we have like four hours. Well… there’s a really good bagel place not too far from here, or we could order in and just relax before we have to get to the theater.”
Oliver shifts so his body is lying sideways across my bed with his head hanging off the side so he is looking at me upside down. “Is it bad if I say I want to Door Dash something?” I shake my head and pull out my phone.
“What do you want? The Thai place a few blocks from here is pretty good.” Oliver shrugs and nods as he takes out his phone. “Any particular requests?”
“I’ll take a chicken pad Thai any day of the week,” Oliver mumbles, frowning at his phone. I add his order to mine and send the order off. “So, Sophie,” he drops his phone on his chest and looks at me.
“Yeah?” I ask, sitting in my desk chair.
“What do you do on your day off?”
“Sleep,” I snort, making myself comfortable. “I work every other day of the week, sometimes 4 am to 11 pm. It makes for a long ass day even when it’s not a two-show day and those just kill so I sleep on my day off.”
Oliver flips over onto his stomach to stare at me. “Do you even sleep during the week? How do you have the energy for that?”
“I don’t,” I retort. “I don’t have a choice but to do it. I run on caffeine, very little sleep and pure adrenaline sometimes. I love my jobs but I wish I didn’t have to work them both. The show and the bakery both feed my soul in ways that Wall Street didn’t and that’s great but there are times I miss the pay.” My fingernails are suddenly the most interesting things in the world as I try to avoid Oliver’s questioning gaze.
“But…”
“But I don’t miss the person I was when I worked on Wall Street. I was ruthless and hard, I had to be. I was one of the only female traders who worked the floor and you had to be just as good or better than most of the men to even get noticed. I like that I don’t have to fight to get my job done or to be the best because I just have a set of tasks that I have every day and as long as I do them, everyone is so grateful, it’s like I hang the fucking moon. I like that I can be soft and have feelings at work and if “It’s Quiet Uptown” gets to me one night, no one is looking at me like I’ve grown two heads.”
“I like this you,” Oliver says, looking me in the eye. “I mean, I didn’t know the other you, but I have a feeling I would like this you better.”
“You don’t know me, Oliver. We met yesterday,” I quip, engrossed in my fingernails.
“But I do know you. Ok, so I don’t know your favorite color or how many siblings you have or what college you went to but I don’t care. You have tangled yourself up in my heart already and I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing but I have a feeling it’s a good thing. I would bend over backward for you to smile at me like you mean it. I know we met yesterday but I don’t think I’m going anywhere anytime soon.” The sincerity in his voice makes me look up and that same sincerity is there in his eyes too.
“Okay,” I whisper.
“Okay,” he says and he flips back onto his back. The food only takes another 15 minutes to come as the suddenly very intense and personal conversation has taken more time than I thought it had. I go down to get the food as Oliver made the argument that he has to save his energy for the show but the bullshit alarm in my head was going off like crazy but I indulge him anyways.
I hand off the bag once I get back to my apartment, breathing slightly heavier. I collapse onto the couch and let Oliver hand me my container of Drunken Noodles as he sits next to me. I’m deep into my box of noodles before I realize something.
“Oliver?”
“Yeah?” He responds around a mouth of noodles. I burst out laughing at his face and almost choke on my food.
“What do you do on your day off? The conversation kind of got derailed into my therapy session earlier and I forgot to ask.” I take another bite of my noodles and watch his face.
“I mostly sleep and hang out at the house, but every once in awhile, my friends will take me out of the city for something. I love New York but it’s nice to see something that isn’t concrete and steel, you know?” I nod and we turn back to our food. Normally, silence drives me absolutely crazy and I’m trying to find ways to fill the space but I settle into the silence, feeling inexplicably comfortable.
Eventually, we find reruns of Criminal Minds and only get slightly into it. Ok, so by the third episode, we’re making bets about who the killer is. I find myself with my head in Oliver’s lap, half-covered by a blanket from my bed and utterly, disgustingly content to stay here all day. Our phones have gotten tossed somewhere in the middle of getting comfortable so when mine buzzes insistently, we both groan and get up, going through the cushions to find it. My fingers finally find cold glass and I wrench the offending rectangle up to my face.
“Hi Jason,” I answer, fixing the pillows and sitting back against the arm of the couch.
“Hi Sophie, I was wondering if you could come in early. We have one or two things that we want to talk to the crew about. The meeting is at 4:30. Can you make it?”
I check my watch and it’s just past 3:30. “Yeah, I can make it. I might run a little late though. You know, the MTA is famously terrible but I’ll do my best.” Oliver tries to look like he’s not listening but it’s not very convincing because I watch his face fall slightly.
“Alright, we won’t start until you get there.”
“Sounds good, see you soon.” I hang up the phone and look at Oliver, who is tapping around on his phone. “I have to go to the theater for a meeting, do you want to come with? I mean, I would say you could nap and leave when you want but I think you would scare the shit out of Piper.” I giggle and a smile washes over his face.
“Not the first impression I want to give her. Yeah, I’ll come in with you. Let me just grab my shoes.” I nod and stand, taking our takeout boxes into the kitchen and throwing them away before running to the bathroom. The circles under my eyes have their own circles so I dab on a minuscule amount of concealer to hopefully minimize them, swipe on a bit of mascara and pull my hair into a sloppy ponytail.
I exit the bathroom to find Oliver exiting my bedroom, shoes on and backpack in hand. “Ready?” He asks and I nod, pulling the hair tie tight around my hair.
“Let’s do this.” Our exit of the apartment is a flurry of coats and backpacks and scarves but we eventually make it to the street. The walk to the subway stop that will take us to the Rodgers is only a few blocks and we settle into each other’s rhythms almost alarmingly fast. Our shoulders bump every couple of steps and it doesn’t take too long to notice that he is doing it intentionally. I nudge him back as we descend the stairs to the platform and his hand brushes mine.
It sends a shockwave of tingles up my arm, warming the tips of my frozen ears and there comes the high school level crush barreling back into the forefront of my mind. It makes me embarrassingly giddy when he takes my hand as we board the train. I turn away to hide my smile but I catch the beginnings of a grin on his face and my heart rate picks up, thudding hard in my chest from the simple contact of his palm on mine.
The train is also surprisingly on time and we surface at 42nd street 40 minutes later, the cold New York wind whipping through my hair. The walk to the Rodgers isn’t long, just packed with people. Businessmen in suits and students fresh out of school push past us on their way home. By the time we actually get to the theater, there are a few people hanging around outside of the stage door and our approach to them makes my heart thud in my chest, this time out of anxiety. I let go of his hand and skirt the crowd as they approach us, asking for Oliver’s autograph or a picture. Oliver shoots me a strange look as I hurry away, punching in the code and showing my ID before hurrying to the stage management office.
I plop down in a chair, slightly out of breath. Jason turns in his chair to look at me. “You’re early.”
“Train was on time for once,” I manage to get out as I shed my coat and scarf and shake my hair out of its ponytail. The rest of the crew shuffles into the room before the meeting starts and we all look at each other, semi-confused as to what was going on. When Tommy Kail joins us, something clicks into place.
“Welcome,” Jason starts the meeting at 4:30 on the nose. “I know you are all very busy so we won’t beat around the bush. First of all, we want to congratulate Beth, who will be having her first baby in 5 months!” We all applaud and there is a round of cheering and wide smiles aimed her way. “That being said, we will be hiring a temporary replacement for her while she goes on a leave of absence. We will let you all know when that happens but for now, she will be with us until she has her baby.” The meeting continues and I pay attention as best as I can. It doesn’t take too much longer and then Jason releases us to go do our preshow prep. I wind up elbows deep in paper for our props master when Oliver finds me.
“Hey, can I talk to you for a minute?”
“Sure,” I answer. “Can we talk while I look through this?”
“Yeah, that’s fine. I just want to ask about earlier? You just seemed weird.” I freeze and look up at him. When he sees the expression on my face, his own clouds over. “I just don’t know what to do here.”
“Um, do we have to talk about this now? I’m kind of in show prep mode and I feel like you should be warming up.” I shift my eyes back to the papers in front of me and he shifts his weight to crouch on the floor next to me.
“I just want to know if I did something. You seemed fine up until we turned the corner to the theater.”
“What? No, you didn’t do anything.” He looks relieved at this. “I just realized that a lot of people in this theater probably know that we left together from the bar last night and I have this high school level crush on you and-” He cuts me off with his laughter. “Are you laughing at me right now?” There is a blush careening across my face and I drop my voice into a stage whisper, embarrassed.
“I’m not- I’m not laughing at you.” He barely gets out before collapsing onto the floor, laughing. Once he gets his breath back, he sits up, an amused look on his face. “I’m really fucking relieved. I thought I was the only one.” I stand and whip around to look at him, slightly bewildered.
“What?”
“Yeah, Sophie. I thought it was kind of obvious from the fact that I kept you around today. I don’t typically hang around with people I don’t like.” He gets up and stands in front of me, taking my hands in his. “Besides, I don’t know if you know this, but you’re absolutely gorgeous and your smile kind of makes me weak in the knees.” Oliver smiles at me and tucks a piece of hair behind my ear.
“Well I’m glad to know the feeling is mutual,” I breathe, as Oliver leans in and presses his lips to my forehead and envelope my body in his arms.
“Besides, didn’t I tell you earlier today that you had wrapped yourself up in me already, you shithead.” I feel him laugh and I lean my head against his shoulder, suddenly remember the moment from only a few hours ago.
“Oh shit, you definitely did. Whoops,” I giggle and he lets me go slightly so he can press a kiss to my cheek. He checks his watch as he pulls away fully and pales slightly.
“I have to go run the fastest errand you’ve ever seen. See you before the show.” He presses another kiss to my cheek as he runs off and I raise my eyebrows and look around, trying to make sure that what just happened had been real.
Oliver makes it back by showtime and I am just grabbing my headset in the mad dash of last-minute prep that a fully costumed Oliver appears next to me.
“Holy shit, you scared me!” I exhale, my hands on my chest as if I can calm my racing heart through physical intervention.
“Sorry, but I brought you something. I asked around and got you this.” He brings his hand around from behind his back and he is holding a white paper to-go cup with a coffeeshop logo emblazoned on the side. “Its green tea with honey and a smidgen of lemon. Wanted you to be able to sleep tonight.”
I gape at him, words whizzing around in my brain but I can’t seem to land the right ones so I just lean up on my tiptoes and press a kiss to his cheek, making sure that the cup is nowhere near his pristine costume. I’d rather not have the wardrobe department on my ass for that one. “Thank you,” I reply and take a sip. “It’s perfect.” He smiles and I set it down near where I’m stationed during the show so I can have it during the show.
Right at seven on the nose, the uber familiar opening riff flies out into the air and off the show goes.
“How does a bastard, orphan, son of a whore…”

OK is it not summer? Why do you need to study? Ive heard lots about the jason and piper babies but what about percy and annabeth's?
ooh so megan and i have mentioned that percy and annabeth have three babies: nicholas, olivia and sophie! they’re each three years apart. nic’s favorite character is the pink octopus in finding nemo (”you guys made me ink! :(”) and percy and annabeth have no idea why, but that line just cracks their baby up so they say it pretty often.
all three of them adore blue food, especially olivia, who likes to drown her pancakes, waffles, sausages, you name it, in syrup. annabeth does not approve of the extreme sugar but then she gives him the baby seal eyes and the answer is still no.
nic (along with tommy) is that kid that when you say something like, “hey i like your shirt!” he replies with, “thanks! my dad can talk to fishes AND horses!!”
#jackson babies#anonymous#ask me anything#they're so cute man#it is indeed summer but ochem waits for no one

Faking It || Chapter Two (SPxOC)
Title: Faking It
Rated: T | Warnings: cliches abound, language, possible future violence.
Words: 7235
Pairing: Sweet Pea x OC
Summary: “A fake kiss. A Contract. And a mutual want to piss off Reggie Mantle. That’s all it was supposed to be. Rosie and Sweet Pea never meant to fall in love in the process.”
AN: This is twice as long as it was supposed to be and I hope you enjoy it. This was loosely inspired by To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before and @starryeyedauthor encouraging me to write this monster, so here it is!
Canon has been ignored. Midge is alive. The Black Hood wasn’t Hal. Reggie, Sweet Pea, and Cheryl are all Seniors at Riverdale. idk a Riverdale S3. This chapter has some exposition, some foreshadowing, and some Cheryl! The fake dating starts... soonish.
Chapter One
So far, Rosie’s been able to make it halfway through third period without any probing questions from her friends. It’s sheer luck that they’ve gone this long without bombarding her, none of them had first period together and Rosie was lucky enough to have a free period after that, allowing her to hide out in the Blue and Gold office after mumbling a rambling excuse to Betty, who either hadn’t heard about the events of that morning or simply didn’t care about them. Either way, Rosie spent nearly an hour tucked away in the corner reading for her AP English class later in the afternoon, ignoring the multitude of text messages she was getting from Sophie and a few others.
Her luck, of course, ran out by her third period history class, which she shares with both Sophie and Piper. They’ve kept quiet so far, sending her looks out of the corner of their eyes as they listen to Mr. Michaels drone on about the syllabus and something about Russian architecture, but Rosie stopped listening over ten minutes ago. Not only is Mr. Michaels an absolute bore, it’s also hard to concentrate on anything with Sophie openly staring at her, barely blinking in a way that looks more than a little bit uncomfortable.
Surprisingly, it’s Piper that breaks first.
The dark-skinned girl sighs heavily as she slaps her notebook down on the circular table in the back they’d managed to score, her lips pursed as she stares at Rosie. The sudden noise draws a few curious gazes from the younger students in the course, a pair of Sophomores openly looking at their table, but most of the Seniors are already checked out, playing on their phones or taking amongst one another.
Mr. Michaels doesn’t notice anything, pushing seventy and half-deaf to the world.
Piper sends the Sophomores a frosty look, making them snap back around quickly. “So are you going to explain what that was or…” Piper trails off quickly, but it isn’t a question. The look Piper sends her is expectant and only a few ticks short of outright demanding, and Rosie knows without a doubt that the only reason she’s remanded silent this long is because Piper let her.
Rosie clears her throat softly, keeping a pointed gaze on the front of the room, knowing that if she looks Piper in the eyes she’ll definitely crack under the pressure. “Nope,” she replies just as quickly, giving a half-hearted shrug, “I’m just going to ignore it until it goes away.”
Sophie snorts so loudly that even Mr. Michaels pauses in his ranting for a moment, unsure if he’s really heard something or not before continuing on, saying something about Egyptian Mythology which makes Rosie wonder what this class is even supposed to be about.
“Goes away?” Sophie openly snickers as she echoes Rosie, making her finally force her gaze away from the front with a disgruntled frown. “Girl, you made out with a Serpent in the middle of the hallway, that’s not going away!” She shakes her head, short blonde hair fluttering around her chin. “I mean did you see Reggie’s face—well, of course you didn’t considering your face was occupied—but he was pissed!” Sophie informs her, bracing her forearms on the table as she leans forward, ignoring the probing stares around them as she looks at Rosie with the most serious look she’s ever seen.
Piper nods along in agreement, biting her lower look briefly. “The Bulldogs aren’t going to be happy about this,” she tacks on, tapping her pencil absentmindedly against her notebook, “especially after that scandal with Midge and Fogarty last semester.” Piper’s nose wrinkles as she says it, Rosie grimacing as well.
That situation was bad for a number of reasons, and it could have been so much worse if the cops hadn’t have found Midge.
“Yeah, but Rosie didn’t cheat on Reggie,” Sophie snips back, brows narrowing slightly as she glances between Piper and Rosie.
Piper, however, shakes her head slowly. “She might as well have with the way Reggie was looking at her.” Again, she pulls her bottom lip between her teeth, worrying the flesh as she glances up at the clock.
“Well, Reggie can go fuck himself in the—”
“Can we not talk about this right now?” Rosie asks sharply, cutting off Sophie.
A sick feeling curls in Rosie’s gut, all of her satisfaction and anger from this morning twisting into something like anxiety in her chest. She hadn’t been thinking when she kissed Sweet Pea, especially not of the way the rest of the student body would react to it, but already she’s beginning to regret her decision, even if it had felt pretty good at the time.
Tensions between the North and Southside of Riverdale have been high ever since the Black Hood Fiasco last semester, and it certainly didn’t get any better after the fallout with Midge.
Piper and Sophie both fall silent, the pitchy note in Rosie’s voice throwing them off. Rosie wrings her hands together, again going back to looking at the front as she avoids her friends’ stares, wishing the ground would open up and swallow her whole. It’s not that she’s afraid of the way other people are going to react to what happened, she’s just never liked being part of Riverdale’s abundant drama, preferring to leave that to the Veronica Lodges and Cheryl Blossoms of the school.
And this? This is definitely going to cause drama.
“Personally, I think it’s an upgrade,” Piper blurts out suddenly, leaning back in her chair and crossing her arms as she sends Rosie her best smile. Both Rosie and Sophie glance over at her, Piper shrugging at them in response. “I mean, yeah, Reggie’s cute and all, but his personality is… lacking. I mean, you could do a lot worse than a Serpent.”
“Yeah!” Sophie agrees quickly and just a little bit too loudly. “Sweet Pea is hot!” A few people stare in response to her exclamation, but she only shoots them the middle finger, too busy smiling at Rosie to pay them any real mind.
Rosie’s frown only deepens, her brows narrowing slightly. “You’re a lesbian, Sophie,” she reminds the other girl. Her lips quirks up at the edges, a small smile pulling at her, but she fights it back, not wanting to give her friends the satisfaction of winning.
Sophie snorts, waving her off. “Yeah, and I have eyes.” She drops her head down slightly, resting her chin in her hand. “I don’t have to be attracted to him to know that he’s not hideous, Rosalie. Speaking completely objectively, the guy is a total smoke show!”
Immediately, Piper begins nodding along in agreement, her eyes on Sophie as the two continue to talk as if Rosie isn’t sitting right next to them. “Plus he has that whole bad boy, troublemaker thing going on,” she comments, wiggling her brows teasingly. “We just love a good leather jacket over a flannel combination. And he’s so tall!”
“Yeah,” Sophie drawls back seriously, deep in thought as she stares back at Piper. “Rose has always had a thing for bad boys,” she agrees with Piper easily, causing Rosie to choke slightly on her spit.
She sends her friends a pointed look, frowning at them as her eyes narrow just a tick, more in annoyance than anything else. “I’m sitting right here,” she reminds them, glancing away briefly to make sure Mr. Michaels hasn’t noticed them talking. Not that he really notices much of anything, content to simply listen to himself talk.
Piper waves her off with a flick of her wrist. “We’re aware,” she says flippantly, a teasing smile pulling at her lips as she pulls her sweater tighter around herself, pushing her notebook away as she leans in towards Sophie, ready to continue gossiping.
Rosie rolls her eyes good-naturedly, a half-smile pulling at her lips. She knows what game they’re playing, trying to distract her from what will inevitably come later in the afternoon, and she appreciates it, she does, but she wishes it wasn’t at her own expense.
“We should have seen this coming,” Piper continues a moment later, holding back a laugh at the face Rosie pulls, her eyes rolling at the implication. Rosie wishes she could say they’re wrong, but she’s about eighty-six percent sure that she does indeed have a thing for bad boys, even if she’d be loath to admit it out loud.
Sophie nods along, snorting softly. “I’m surprised she didn’t dump Reggie’s dumb ass as soon as the Serpents walked in last semester.” That certainly would have saved her some trouble in the long run, but frankly she’s insulted by the implication that her mind could be so easily swayed by a ridiculously tall, attractive bad boy in a leather jacket.
She’d like to think she’s more resolute than that.
“You guys are the worst,” Rosie informs them deadpan, not even half-serious as they continue to prattle on about the non-existent tension going on between her and Sweet Pea. She kissed him once to make sure her asshole ex-boyfriend didn’t try to talk to her. It doesn’t mean anything.
Piper and Sophie scoff at exactly the same time, looking unimpressed with her comments. “Bitch, you love us,” Sophie reminds her, sending her a wink and a smile that’s all teeth as she plays with the sleeves of her flannel.
“I know,” Rosie replies quickly, finally allowing herself to smile at her friends’ ridiculousness, knowing they have the best of intentions. As exasperating as they can be, she wouldn’t change a single thing about either of them.
Piper giggles softly, clasping her hands in front of her as she smiles at Rosie, her entire face lighting up. “Look,” she begins, just a little bit softer than before, “all we’re trying to say is that if there’s something going on between you and tall, badass, and sexy, we support you. Always.” She reaches across the table a moment later, placing one hand over Rosie’s and giving a gentle squeeze that’s more reassuring than her words.
Rosie snorts softly, shaking her head in exasperation. “Well that’s not something you have to worry about,” she promises the two of them, glancing away from Piper to look at Sophie, who stares back at her in obvious disbelief, “because there’s nothing going on between me and Sweet Pea. And there probably never will,” she finishes, tacking on the last part with finality. They hardly know each other at all, and it’s not like this is going to magically bring them closer together. That’s not something that happens in real life.
“Nothing?” Sophie deadpans in return, still looking at Rosie as if she doesn’t quite believe her. She crosses her arms, quirking a brow as she continues to stare at Rosie
Piper, on the other hand, almost looks disappointed at Rosie’s words, despite usually being the practical one. The look disappears in an instant, replaced with something more sly and teasing. “Not even a little something?” she jokes, squeezing Rosie’s hand one more time before releasing her entirely, amusement clear in her eyes.
“None at all,” Rosie promises, crossing her own arms in return. She turns back to the front, clicking her pen to begin jotting down the few notes written on the board, almost wishing she had been paying attention to the lecture, though admittedly it wouldn’t have been nearly as interesting as her friends’ banter.
Sophie doesn’t bother to hide her smirk at all. “Yeah, we’ll see how long that lasts,” she crows at Rosie, practically cackling under her breath when Rosie’s head snaps back around in confusion, her eyes wide.
Rosie barely sputters out a, “what does that mean?” trying not to make too much noise. Most of the class has gone back to ignoring them, familiar with their antics and more interested in their phones, but that same pair of Sophomores from before is still eyeing them with interest, leaning closer to try to hear what they’re saying.
Sophie raises a challenging brow in return, leaning across the table to speak to Rosie in a voice that isn’t quite as quiet as it probably should be. “It means you tried to shove your tongue down a guy’s throat on a whim,” she says, speaking slowly so that both Rosie and Piper can hear her closely, “and he watched you walk away like he wanted to. Eat. You. Up.” She puts special emphasis on each word as she finishes, smirk only growing larger with each pause. “And by ‘eat you’, I one hundred percent mean that he probably wants to—”
“I know what you mean, Sophie, thank you.”
Piper rolls her eyes, barely able to force back her smile at Sophie’s crude nature. While it’s something the two usually don’t agree on, Piper seems to have to qualms with Sophie’s bluntness in this situation. “What Sophie is trying to say is that if you like him, go for it.” The look in Piper’s eyes says a lot more than her words. There’s acceptance there, and something that can’t be put into words. Like Rosie shouldn’t hold back because of Reggie. Like she’s better than that.
Sophie nods once in agreement just before the bell rings. “Get some, Girl!” she practically sings, reaching out to slap Rosie on the back.
By the time lunch rolls around, Rosie is fed up with the looks she’s been getting from the rest of the student body. While most of the underclassmen don’t appear to care one way or another what’s happening in her personal life, the Junior and Senior classes have been sending her looks all day, being more involved in the drama between north and south that the younger students.
Plenty of the Northside students she grew up with have been sending her borderline nasty looks all morning. Knowing that she dated Reggie previously already put her in a bad place when it came to people expecting her to act a certain way, but news travels fast through a school with nothing better to do, and after everything that happened last semester, most people aren’t keen on seeing anymore Northside girls hookup with Southsiders, and especially not Serpents, at that.
What happened between Midge and Fangs was a messy situation, and Rosie only knows what she’s heard from Reggie and Moose, not seeing much of Midge since summer break started, and even then she can’t be sure how much of it is true. The night of the spring musical opening, apparently Midge ended up disappearing, off on a bad Jingle Jangle bender that left her missing for nearly three days until she was found in Greendale with no memory of how she got there.
Fangs ended up taking the fall for it, the cops dragging him in on a suspected murder charge with little more evidence than a shaky video and a pocket knife, but it was enough to have half of Riverdale rioting. It was enough to get Fangs shot.
Rosie hadn’t gone down to the riots, not wanting to be involved in something that violent aimed at someone her age, and after learning what happened that night she’s glad she stayed home with her sisters.
Midge, at least, ended up being okay. As far as Rosie knows, she’s gotten clean and worked things out with Moose, judging by how close they were this morning when she saw them in the hallway. Rosie wouldn’t call the two of them friends, mostly knowing each other through their boyfriends, but she never thought of Midge as being a bad person for the drugs.
Everyone has a vice; some are just worse than others.
Ever since then, the tension has only been worse between the two sides of Riverdale. There was more fighting in school towards the end of the semester and Reggie made himself very clear about where he stood when it came to matters of the Southside. The hostile looks she’s been getting from the Bulldogs’ is expected and annoying, but nothing she can’t handle.
What’s been more surprising is the looks she’s gotten from the Serpents she’s come across, which have been more curious than anything else, much to her own confusion.
Rosie shakes her head, hoisting her bag higher up on her shoulder as she continues down the hallway, heeled boots clicking across the floor as she heads for the doors leading outside, intent on finding Piper and Sophie again.
She’s almost at the doors when a familiar sound reaches her ears, heels clicking across the floor echoing behind her. “Rosalie!” an equally familiar voice calls out behind her, presence commanding and making her freeze just a few feet away from the door.
“Fuck,” Rosie curses without meaning to, voice louder than expected. Plastering a wide grin onto her face, Rosie twists around on her heel, hoping her smile isn’t as strained as it feels. “Hi, Cheryl!” she greets the other redhead, gripping the strap of her bag just a little bit too tight. “How are you on this fine day?” The question comes out more sarcastic than she means it to, and Rosie nearly grimaces after opening her mouth. At this point she’s more wound up than expected, but she shouldn’t be taking that out on Cheryl, who’s always been civil to her, if not openly friendly.
Cheryl, however, seems unconcerned with her snappish tone, merely blinking once before a tight smile pulls at her red lips. It isn’t an unkind look by any means, but it does put Rosie on edge, knowing she probably won’t like wherever this conversation ends up going. Cheryl crosses her arms over her chest after delicately brushing her hair over one shoulder, eyeing Rosie with just a hint of amusement. “A little birdie told me something interesting this morning,” Cheryl informs her, head tilting slightly to one side as she continues to stare at Rosie.
She already doesn’t like where this is going.
Rosie pulls a face at Cheryl’s trilling voice, fighting the urge to roll her eyes in exasperation. “Wow,” Rosie drawls back sarcastically, voice as dry as it ever has been. She snorts softly as she shakes her head. “Can’t imagine what that could possibly be,” she mumbles under her breath as Cheryl crosses the short distance between them, brushing right by Rosie and heading towards the doors, beckoning her to follow.
Cheryl continues on as if Rosie hadn’t said a word, her heels clicking across the floor as she leads Rosie over to the double doors leading outside. “I honestly do not know what it is about Vixens and Serpents,” she grumbles, sounding just the slightest bit fond. She doesn’t look at Rosie as she shoves open the doors leading to the quad, and for a half second Rosie thinks she might be talking to herself. Cheryl’s tongue clicks softly as she shakes her head. “But if you and Sweet Potato are going to make a spectacle of yourselves—”
“Not a Vixen,” Rosie reminds her quickly, quickening her steps to keep pace with the taller girl. Cheryl just keeps on ignoring her, not slowing for a second as she heads to the cheerleaders’ table, still speaking, though Rosie has since tuned her out. “And there’s absolutely nothing going on between me and a Sweet Pea,” she promises the other girl, though the words ring a bit hollow even to Rosie, Piper and Sophie’s words from earlier getting to her slightly.
Again, Cheryl tosses her hair over her shoulder, pursing her lips just the slightest as she stops about ten feet from the table, the rest of the River Vixens glancing over at the curiously as Cheryl turns to face Rosie directly. Her brows narrow a tick, a hard look in her eyes that softens just the slightest when she meets Rosie’s gaze. “I only came to tell you that if that barbaric oaf does anything to hurt you—”
Rosie cuts her off quickly, sending Cheryl a blank look. “You’re not listening to a word I’m saying are you?” she asks, not expecting any form of acknowledgment from the other girl.
“—the other Vixens, as well as moi, will make sure he regrets it.” While she wouldn’t call Cheryl her friend in a traditional sense, the two have always looked out for one another ever since their Freshman year, which is what Cheryl appears to be doing now, for some reason Rosie isn’t entirely sure of.
Cheryl clasps her hands together in front of her, sending Rosie a smile that’s sincere and also a tad dangerous, as if daring Rosie to say anything to the contrary. She only made out half of what the other girl said, and Rosie thinks she might be jumping the gun just a little bit, but she does mean well.
“Again,” Rosie starts slowly, offering Cheryl a slightly confused smile, “not a Vixen, Cheryl.” She never has been one, for that matter, but Cheryl has almost always referred to her as such, much to Rosie’s immense confusion. The River Vixens have always been a fairly private group, after all. “And there’s nothing going on between me and Sweet Pea,” she repeats, sighing softly to herself.
Cheryl waves her off with a flick of her wrist. “An honorary Vixen then,” she corrects herself, ignoring Rosie’s second point entirely. Rosie considers arguing with her, but decides it simply isn’t worth it. Cheryl’s only going to believe what she wants. Instead, she nods in response, causing Cheryl’s slight smile to grow before it drops just as quickly. “We missed you last year,” she says suddenly, making Rosie tense in surprise. “Do you think you might come back?”
A familiar chill settles in Rosie’s chest as she instinctively shifts her weight to her right side, breath catching in her throat. Rosie lowers her gaze, jaw clenching tightly as she squeezes her eyes shut tightly for just a moment, trying to ignore the screeching metal on metal sound echoing in her head. “I don’t know, Cheryl,” she replies softly, forcing her voice to remain even.
Cheryl simply nods at the clipped response, not taking it personally. “Remember what I said, Rosalie.”
Rosie considers asking which part, but decides not to. “I will,” she says instead, sending Cheryl a smile that doesn’t quite reach her eyes. The other girl gives a sharp nod, turning on her heel to stalk over to the Vixen’s table. “Hey, Cheryl?” Rosie calls after her before she can get far, prompting her to glance over her shoulder. “My sister and her friends are going to try out for the Vixens this year. Try not to be too hard on them.”
There’s an amused flicker in Cheryl’s gaze. “We’ll see.”
The end of the school day is practically a blessing. After a day full of stares and awkward pep talks, Rosie wants nothing more than to go home and forget today ever happened. With everything that goes on in Riverdale, her little spectacle this morning should blow over by the end of the week, if not sooner. Considering the Peanut Gallery that is this years Junior class, Rosie wouldn’t be surprised if everyone forgot about her stunt by tomorrow morning.
Rosie riffles through her bag as she walks with Piper and Sophie towards the front doors, avoiding the Freshmen loitering in the halls. Sophie is in the middle of telling some story from her last period gym class, but Rosie stopped listening as soon as she started talking about whatever girl of the week she’s in love with.
“Shit,” she swears suddenly, stopping in her tracks and cutting off Sophie accidentally, drawing both her attention and Piper’s.
“What?” Piper asks, quirking a brow as she glances at Rosie, who shakes her head in response.
She sends her friends a quick smile, waving off their concerned looks. “It’s nothing,” she promises, hoisting her bag higher on her shoulder as she turns to head back down the hallway, careful to avoid the wandering steps of a pair of younger boys. “I just forgot one of my books in my locker.”
Piper nods in understanding, but Sophie frowns, crossing her arms and cocking her hip, looking both confused and unimpressed. “Can’t it wait until tomorrow?” she asks, glancing between the other two.
“AP,” Rosie replies quickly, not needing to say anything else. Piper is taking the same class as she is and simply exchanges a solemn look with Rosie while Sophie blanches, looking almost disturbed as she realizes what that means.
Slowly, Piper takes a step towards Rosie, a slight frown pulling at her lips. “Want us to come with you?” she asks, an edge to the words that Rosie doesn’t really understand.
“No,” she replies quickly, sending the two of them a small smile. “It’s fine. I’ll see you guys tomorrow,” she promises. Piper and Sophie both nod, though Sophie looks like she might say something as well until Piper reaches out and grabs her by the hand, gently pulling her towards the doors as they both call out their goodbyes before being swallowed up in the crowd.
Rosie sighs as she heads back to her locker, the halls already beginning to empty despite how early it is. While sports’ practice will be starting soon, no other extracurriculars have started yet, leaving most of the student body eager to go home after a long first day back, which she can’t blame them for.
By the time she’s grabbed her book from her locker and shoved it into her bag, the hallway is completely empty, until suddenly it’s not.
Rosie has her head half-buried in her locker when she feels more so than hears someone come up behind her, a hand brushing against her side teasingly. Rolling her eyes, Rosie opens her mouth to tell Sophie to stop trying to scare her, because it isn’t funny, but she’s cut off by a familiar voice against her ear. “Didn’t peg you as someone to slum it with Serpent scum, Rosalie.”
She jerks back, immediately slamming her locker shut so hard that the sound echoes in the hallway. Rosie clenches her jaw, squeezing her eyes shut for just a moment before they snap open again. “I didn’t peg you as a narcissistic asshole, Reggie,” she retorts easily, slapping his hand away from her side and shifting her bag over her arm, not giving him a single glance as she turns back down the hallway. “Guess we’re both disappointed.” She keeps her words even, refusing to give him the satisfaction of getting a reaction out of her so easily.
Reggie isn’t the slightest bit deterred by her biting response, keeping pace with her easily as she stalks away from him, heels clicking across the floor a little louder than usual. “Was that little show for me, Baby?” he asks her, fingers brushing against the back of her hand. “Trying to make me jealous?”
Rosie doesn’t have to look at him to picture the shit-eating smirk on his face. Frankly, she really should have pegged him as a narcissistic asshole sooner than she did, but hindsight is a bitch like that.
Rolling her eyes, Rosie practically sneers at the petname. “First of all, don’t call me that anymore,” she demands. She’s not his anything anymore, and she thought she made that perfectly clear when she refused to answer his calls for over a month. “Second of all, leave me alone, Reggie. Not everything I do revolves around you.”
She chooses to ignore the fact that technically he isn’t wrong. She did kiss Sweet Pea because of some petty need to get back at him, but it certainly wasn’t about making him jealous. Jealousy would imply that she still wanted to get with him, which is, despite his assumption, not the case in the slightest.
Honestly, she should have been expecting him to corner her at some point. Reggie is a lot of things, and thick-headed is definitely one of them. She thought her impromptu make out session with Sweet Pea in the hallway would get him off her back until at least tomorrow morning, but she’s always had shitty luck.
“You’re avoiding me,” Reggie says suddenly, sounding genuinely surprised by the mere idea. He stops walking with her for just a second, but when she doesn’t stop as well, he hurries to keep up.
Rosie fights back the urge to roll her eyes again as they round a corner, the front doors seeming impossibly far away from the locker bay for some reason. “Ding, ding, ding we have a winner!” she mutters back sarcastically. “How long did it take you to figure that one out?” She would have thought he’d have gotten the message by now. “Was it me blocking your number or me telling you to leave me the hell alone?”
Reggie only sighs, like she’s the one being exasperating. “Can we talk about this?” he asks.
“There’s nothing to talk about.”
“I don’t like the way we left things.”
The way he says it surprises her into looking at him, her steps faltering slightly as she blinks at him stupidly for a second, not fully comprehending the bullshit coming out of his mouth. “Well, I don’t like my boyfriend sticking his dick in other people,” she hisses back at him.
Rosie takes a long look at Reggie for the first time since they broke up, taking in the dark eyes and Letterman jacket she used to love. He hasn’t changed at all since she last saw him, and that pisses her off more than she’d care to admit. He doesn’t look the least bit torn up by what happened between them, and she knows it’s only his pride that’s been hurt.
Reggie, of course is as thick as ever. “Boyfriend?” he repeats, as if that’s the only thing he heard come out of her mouth, which, frankly, wouldn’t surprise her in the slightest. There’s a hopeful note to his voice, Reggie’s brows furrowing as he stares down at her, blinking at her expectantly.
“Ex, Reggie,” she clarifies, forcing her gaze away from his as she quickens her pace. “I’m done. We’re done. I won’t play this game with you again.” Her voice cracks slightly as she says it, all of the anger and resentment she’s been trying to hold back finally slipping through.
Before she can stomp away from him, he steps in front of her, forcing her to come to a sudden halt to avoid running into him. She scoffs at his persistence, growing more annoyed with each moment. “If you would just let me explain,” he snaps at her, making her take a half-step back in surprise at his tone.
Her gaze locks with his, his dark eyes burning into hers in a way that’s almost uncomfortable. Reggie’s jaw clenches as he stares down at her, his hands curling into fists at his sides. His Letterman jacket is pulled taut around his shoulders, the blue and gold fabric familiar in a way she wishes it wasn’t.
Rosie takes a slow, shaky breath, suddenly exhausted by the conversation. “What could you possible say that would make any of this better?” she asks him after a moment, far softer than she would have liked. “I was gone for less than a week and came home to find you screwing some girl from Greendale. What else is there to talk about, Reggie, because I can’t think of anything.”
His throat bobs with a harsh swallow, a muscle in his jaw jumping as his gaze rips away from hers for a second. “It was an accident,” he tells her, stressing the last word. The look he sends her is so sad and so sincere that she would believe him if she didn’t know how convincing of a liar he can be when he wants.
Rosie scoffs, letting out a humorless laugh. “Oh, fuck off, Reggie,” she snaps back at him, shaking her head as she shoves him out of her way, carefully stepping around him to continue on with her day. “I’m not stupid. That’s bullshit and we both know it.”
He’s on her heels again a moment later. “Where do you think you’re going?” he demands in a way that makes a chill run up her spine in a way that’s far from pleasant.
“Away from you. I have better things I could be doing than wasting my time on this conversation.”
Reggie snorts in response, a sarcastic smirk pulling at his lips. “What like Sweet Pea?” he jokes in a way that there’s no humor to it, just a biting edge that makes her skin prickle with irritation.
“Yes, actually.” It’s a low blow, but she doesn’t care anymore, tired of being the bigger person when he’s the one that hurt her, not the other way around. And this is the second time he’s brought up Sweet Pea since they started talking, so she knows this morning is bothering him more than he’s letting on, just like she wanted it to.
At least she can always count on Reggie to be a self-absorbed prick, if nothing else.
Her flippant response only serves to rile him up even more. “You fucking a Serpent now, Rosie?” he asks, a harsh, bitter laugh spilling from his mouth. “How long has that been going on?” She ignores him, done with the conversation, but Reggie doesn’t let her go far. “Don’t fucking walk away from me, Rosalie!” he snaps, hand lashing out to grab her by the arm.
His fingers lock around her wrist, yanking her to a sudden halt as he forces her back around to look at him. “Reggie, let go,” she snaps at him immediately, green eyes positively venomous. His grip only tightens, Reggie squeezing so hard that there’s a slight pop in her wrist from the pressure, a sharp pain accompanying his touch. A soft sound pulls from her throat as she tries to twist out of his grasp, her eyes widening slightly. “Reggie, I said—”
“Let go,” a deep voice from behind Rosie finishes for her. She doesn’t have to look to know who it is, some of the tension leaving her shoulders as she hears a heavy set of steps coming up behind her. “She said ‘let go.’ ”
Reggie’s head snaps up to look at Sweet Pea over her shoulder, his grip loosening just enough for her to yank her arm away from him. Rosie takes a step back, putting some distance between the two of them. She keeps her eyes on Reggie as Sweet Pea walks up behind her.
“There a problem here?” Sweet Pea asks Rosie, though his dark eyes are on Reggie. There’s a hard edge to the question, his jaw set as he glares down at the other male, practically daring him to make a move. Sweet Pea’s hands curl into tight fists, mirroring Reggie as his shoulders tense. His arm brushes against hers accidentally, his leather jacket sliding against her bare skin, and she takes a slow breath.
Rosie wets her lips, forcing herself to look away from Reggie as her gaze shifts to Sweet Pea standing beside her, towering over her just as he did this morning, but looking significantly more dangerous. “No,” she says quickly, cutting off whatever Reggie might have planned to say. “Reggie was just leaving.” Her eyes go back to Reggie as she says it, and both boys seem to be aware that it’s no longer a request.
“Rosalie—” Reggie starts, practically sighing as he says her name, taking a step closer to her.
Sweet Pea’s fingers brush against her hip, guiding her a step back as he pushes around her, getting in Reggie’s face quickly. “She said piss off, Mantle,” he practically growls down at the other boy.
For a second, Rosie’s afraid they might start beating on each other, which is something she definitely doesn’t want to get caught in the middle of, but Reggie backs down faster than she expects him to. He swallows, taking a step back from Sweet Pea as his gaze flicks to her face, noticing the nervous glint in her eyes. Reggie wets his lips, taking another step back as he scoffs. “Whatever,” he says, looking at Sweet Pea, “keep her.”
Reggie brushes by them, purposefully knocking his shoulder against Sweet Pea’s. The Serpent beside her clenches his fists even tighter, straightening to his full height as he tenses, looking ready to spring at Reggie as the football captain storms passed them.
Rosie’s fingers curl around the cuff of his jacket, her fingertips just barely sliding against the skin of his wrist, anchoring him in place beside her.
The two of them watch until Reggie disappears around the corner, and Rosie releases both Sweet Pea and the breath caught in the back of her throat at the same time, letting her hand drop back to her side without a word. Her eyes drift shut for a moment, Rosie allowing herself to relax now that Reggie isn’t around.
Sweet Pea’s gaze lingers on where Reggie disappeared for several seconds longer, but when Rosie sighs his eyes flick down to her, catching her just as she opens hers again. “You okay?” he asks her, all of the playful amusement in his voice from this morning gone for the moment, a serious she’s not used to clouding his voice.
“I’m fine. Thanks,” she tells him softly, sending him a small smile when she meets his dark eyes with her own, carefully brushing her hair away from her face. “Reggie’s all bark and no bite,” Rosie continues, trying for a joke, but it falls flat between them. Inhaling deeply through her nose, Rosie clears her throat, hoisting her bag higher on her shoulder as she looks away from Sweet Pea for only a moment. “What are you doing here anyway?”
The change in subject is blatant, but he doesn’t call her on it, instead following her as she turns around, heading the same way as Reggie down to the front of the school and the parking lot outside.
Sweet Pea clears his throat. “Forgot this,” he tells her, holding up a ring of keys briefly before stashing in back in his pocket, the assortment of keys clinking together softly as he moves. “Besides,” he glances down at her, “I was looking for you.”
“Me?” Rosie practically sputters out, head snapping around to look at him, Rosie having to crane her neck to meet his eyes. “Why were you looking for me?” He quirks a brow, a hint of a smile curling at his lips as she looks away, sighing to herself and nodding. Right, she made out with him this morning for seemingly no reason. “Yeah, stupid question,” she answers for him.
Sweet Pea snorts softly, a low laugh rumbling in his chest. “What was that about this morning?” is all he asks her, shoving his hands into his pockets and matching her pace as they make their way down the hall, the front doors in sight.
Rosie hesitates, unsure what she wants to tell him, but decides almost immediately that the truth is probably the easiest option. “Reggie was going to come talk to me.” She shrugs, leaving it at that, knowing he can piece together the rest after what he walked into.
“Oh, so you used me?” he asks jokingly, holding the door open for her and allowing her to slip out before him. Rosie bites back a laugh at the faux hurt expression on his face which quickly gives way to amusement. “Am I at least a better kisser than he is?” Sweet Pea asks her, staring down at her imploringly.
“Oh definitely,” she replies easily, more than a little truth to her words. “You didn’t immediately try to shove your tongue down my throat so it was an improvement.” A smile pulls at her lips that she doesn’t bother to hide as Sweet Pea laughs along with her.
His tongue flicks out across his bottom lip before he looks down at her again. “Well, if you ever want to try that again, Doll, all you have to do is ask.”
Rosie shakes her head as he chuckles, still following a step behind her as she makes her way down the front steps, spotting her car easily in the half-empty lot. There’s a group of Serpents on the other side of the lot, leaning up against their bikes and roughhousing with one another, but they stop when they catch sight of Sweet Pea and Rosie walking together. They watch, curious, and Rosie tries to ignore the prickling feeling their gazes leave on her spine.
“Is there a reason you’re walking me to my car?” she asks when he doesn’t head over to the Serpents clearly waiting around for him, instead opting to trail just a step behind her.
Sweet Pea snorts, rolling his shoulders as he glances over her head at the other Serpents. “Mantle doesn’t know when to quit,” he says to her, giving her a half-shrug. It’s a poor excuse, but she doesn’t question it.
Rosie huffs softly, shaking her head and rolling her eyes at his blunt statement. “Reggie is an idiot,” she informs Sweet Pea, though he should already know that by now after dealing with him for nearly a year.
“An idiot you dated.”
“An idiot I dumped,” she corrects him, not wanting to talk about Reggie any longer. She glances up at Sweet Pea, locking gazes with him for a moment. His eyes crinkle at the edges when he grins down at her, and Rosie is suddenly struck with the thought that it’s the same look he gave her just before she kissed him this morning.
Rosie forces herself to look away first, the two of them coming to a halt as they step up beside her car. “I’ll see you around, Sweet Pea,” she says, clearing her throat as she opens the driver’s side door, turning her back to him slowly.
“Drive safe, Hayes,” he tells her, voice low and throaty. She glances at him over her shoulder, watching as he walks backwards away from her, his eyes lingering on her as she opens her mouth to speak but decides against it, simply nodding instead. He returns her nod, turning on his heel to stalk away towards the Serpents.
Rosie watches him walk away until he’s halfway across the parking lot before slipping inside her own car, slamming the door shut behind her and settling back in her seat. Her eyes slip shut, her head lolling back against the headrest as she sighs through her nose, suddenly exhausted by the days events.
“Was that the guy you made out with this morning?”
A shriek rips from her throat, Rosie lurching forward so quickly she bangs her knee against the steering wheel, sending a jolt through the bone. Her head snaps around, eyes locking with a familiar pair of green eyes identical to her own. “Iris!” she gasps, heart lurching into her throat for a second. “Jesus Christ,” she hisses, trying to steady her erratic heartbeat. “What do you even know about that?” she asks her younger sister, bewildered.
Iris only smirks back at her, almost catlike. “So he is the guy you made out with!”
Well, she’s certainly not wrong.
“Oh my god, I’m not discussing this with you.”

“You may think it’s funny, but it’s true!” The youngest of the Piper siblings claimed, staring wide-eyed at the redhead who stood before her. Ever since the discovery of her, Marnie, and Dylan being magical and coming from a witchy family alongside of learning about Halloweentown, there has always been one thing that was constant since then. All of them meeting Luke. Now granted, he was more Marnie’s friend than Dylan’s or Sophie’s, and everyone with eyes knew how big of a crush on her older sister he has, but it truly was something in how impactful the goblins presence has been within their lives. Or Marnie’s life to be exactly, which is why Sophie claimed he was a game changer. And now that Luke was living full-time within the mortal world with them, the brunette felt like it was now or never if Luke wanted to have something more with her older sister. “Dylan disagrees about most things— he’s boring, so he doesn’t like anything that changes the status quo to him.” Sophie replied, rolling her eyes at the mention of her brother. “But we’re not going to talk about him! When are you going to finally confess to Marnie about how you feel?”
"You're a game changer." -@itsscphiie
The statement made Luke chuckle a bit, shaking his head at the thought of the mixed opinions between the Piper siblings. "You think so?" Well, it was good to know he had Sophie's approval; he always liked Marnie's brother and sister when he was able to see them during their Halloweentown visits. Things shouldn't have been any different now, at least from their understandings. To them, he simply had a prettier face and was starting a new life in the mortal world. Obviously, it was more than that, with his secret side-hustle with magical drugs from Halloweentown. Though he didn't think Sophie or Marnie were onto him yet, he got a sense that Dylan was suspicious about something. He likely didn't have any leads, but Luke could tell that his vibe had shifted since moving and spending more time with the eldest witch. "You should put in a good word to your brother for me — I've gotten a feeling that he'd disagree with that."

Meme: “this is a fuckin’ nightmare.” | @softsliders19
Sophie was sitting at a table with a book open in front of her when she heard the frustrated words from the man at the table next to her. She couldn’t help but close the book to turn and look at him. “What is? The weather? The fact that this place seems to always be popular? I’m nosey - what’s your nightmare?”
