Hi there! Baby army here. Recruited by Jimin during his ON MV and can never JIM-OUT afterward.. I swear hes making me scratch my head. Since i gotta know him and like him, i cant live a day without checking his news from whichever platform.. youtube, twitter, tumbler, tiktok..

But love your blog about his dynamic within the maknae line. Can you also do one with the hyungs? I just feel sometimes hes the glue in the BTS group but maybe its just me projecting because hes my ultimate bias within the group.

And welcome to the world of being obsessed with all things Jimin. It's crazy. We’re crazy. And there's a lot of us out here. And “ON MV Jimin��... yes, yes, yes... body roll, runs his hand down his body, crotch grabbing, silver-haired, expletive deletive facial expression Jimin. Yes. What a fine Jimin that was. I can relate to total submission and complete obsession. Same, same. 

Jimin’s appeal is unexplainable. His gracefulness, the way he dances, he is the finest living sculpture and beautiful to watch in motion as well as mesmerizing in still photos. The man is just super photogenic from head to toe. His face is the most beautiful face I've ever seen. He’s a chameleon. He can look so young and with a change of makeup and hair, he looks like some mysteriously sensual creature of undetermined gender that gets under your skin and won't leave. His visuals just never quit. Oh, and he’s hot. I mean... how is this the same man in all of these images?

His personality...he’s complicated. He has a lot going on in that pretty head. Knows what he wants, sets goals, works hard, achieves them. Yet he always seems to be there for everyone. He tries to see situations from different points of view. He is keenly observant of the tiniest details. Which drives his desire to do take after take after take when shooting music videos and rehearsals for performances. 

Anyway. I already said most of that in another post.

To answer your question about doing a dynamic about Jimin and the hyung line... 

As far as Jimin being the "glue" of the group...I think he contributes a lot in the way of interpersonal relationships between all the members but I wouldn't say he's the center of it all. I am not sure if any of them fit that description. But if I were to pick someone who is the “glue” it would be our fearless leader, Kim Namjoon. Because he IS the designated leader and he's the one they look to for guidance when necessary. He’s been the one to rally them when they were bone-tired and worn raw. Could Jimin pick up the reins if necessary? I think he could, but I don’t think that’s where he wants to be. I think Hobi could be a great leader too. 

I think one thing that Jimin DOES bring to the table is his emotional quotient or emotional intelligence. People speak about it all the time. Jimin has the ability to understand and use emotions in a positive way.  He has great empathy. He’s not perfect, no one is, but he can see when others need that extra help over rough spots and is there to offer what he can. He’s great at communicating on an emotional level. 

Though all the members have a very close relationship, Jimin’s relationships with each of his hyungs might be like this:

Jimin and Joon: I think they connect on an emotional and intellectual level. I think Joon totally understands what motivates Jimin in his work. I think Jimin offers some emotionality to Joon’s outlook on life. I think they both like simple, uncomplicated things because they have so many complicated thoughts going on in their heads. 

Jimin and Yoongi: They adore and respect each other. Another thing is Jimin has a voice that Yoongi loves and Yoongi raps like Jimin wishes he could. They do act like very close siblings. Jimin’s voice has that poignancy to it, something that just pulls at your heartstrings. Yoongi says that Jimin’s voice is his favorite:

Jimin and Jin: Jimin being the older brother in his family, I think he revels being in the role of one of Jin’s younger brothers. Jin’s playful teasing and Jimin’s hugs just scream loving siblings to me. Jin has admitted he was just floating in life with the least ambitions but here’s Jimin to say “hyung is the best older hyung.” Family is family.

Jimin and Hobi: Best of friends. Ride or die. Period. I know people tout Jimin and Tae’s soulmates label but Hobi and Jimin are on a different level. Super tight relationship. Super supportive of each other. Being the main/lead dancers they take the group to that sky-high level that no other group can even dream of attaining. Sometimes the looks they give each other... Y’ALL NEED TO LET US IN! 

Jimin brings a lot to the BTS table. I have heard several of the others say that BTS isn’t BTS without Jimin. Of course BTS isn’t BTS without any of them. BTS is 7 and always will be. But Jimin is like icing on the cake, right? Extra creamy, extra rich, exotically colored and the best tasting. Okay that sounded x-rated so I will stop here.

'Crazy Form' MV First Reactions

Another comeback, another ATEEZ win in the MV department.

This MV is a great continuation on from the story in the previous MVs - it has aspects from Don't Stop, Guerrilla, HALAZIA, and Bouncy. The MAMA performance showed the direct continuation from Bouncy, and I'll discuss Bouncy and other elements later on.

I liked it, of course, and, although the song still has some growing to do (and the crotch-grabbing and hip thrusting in the choreo needs to go), it's still, as expected, an overall win.

So let's discuss it.

First, I love that the intro starts with a flag - a very ATEEZ thing. The last time I remember flags being this salient is in WONDERLAND - they were in HALAZIA, but they were more like prayer flags there, not these massive 'heralding-the-coming-of-the-king' flags.'

So here we have the city they've been taking over - from Guerrilla, HALAZIA, and Bouncy - the moon (the Cromer takes power from the phases of the moon), ATEEZ flags (of course), and these weird industrial tent things that may or may not be covered in solar panels. The cool thing about the tents is 1) they become more interesting the longer you look at them, 2) they hide even more of ATEEZ's army, 3) they look pretty cool and make a nice, intimidating, symmetrical backdrop, and 4) they kind of look like stadium seating - showing how popular ATEEZ have become.

ATEEZ and their multi-meaning visual language coming back again. As expected.

Of course, we start with our Captain, and, of course, he is wearing his Captain's mark.

I think this move is super goofy and funny but it does do an interesting job of revealing San so I can't fault it too much.

I hope I don't need to tell you that 1) there is some anarchy planning going on here, 2) we are in a futuristic world, and 3) they are back in the shed they do all their planning in.

Also back in circular towers. Is this a prison? Is Yunho breaking out? It's possible... I mean, anything's possible with ATEEZ.

It seems that their shed has had some significant upgrades. Probably coming from the revenue of drug dealing.

Mingi what is the point of looking cool in your car if you then immediately crash said car?

Mingi in bar scene? Check. Which means? He's up to no good.

Now this is really interesting story progression IMO. In Bouncy, we had Mingi in a dingy wild-west bar, murdering people. So here, we see him in a high-end bar, so we expect more murder. But instead, as we would expect with high-class things, he is...

Buying Iron Man's heart? Okay probably not - it's probably some other random high-tech thing they need. But it's not only this that is interesting - it's the fact that in both MVs, Mingi drinks something weird - some chilli cocktail in the first one, and... strawberry milk??? in this one.

Possibly to further show how different ATEEZ are from the rest of the world?

Anyway, strawberry milk is superior to alcohol every day.

Wooyoung's working on something.

Now, interestingly, if you remember back to my post on ATEEZ's positions on their pirate ship, Wooyoung's spot was undetermined. This scene (assuming the director chose this task and Wooyoung specifically, which we should assume) suggests to me that he is some sort of mechanic/dude with technical know-how. Other evidence that he has this, and in general, a supportive role, is how he is often seen backing San up (in general, and especially in Bouncy), and how in Guerrilla, he was involved in hijacking the media systems of the government.

We could perhaps say he is a fixer-upper-er? And I say it like this, because, if we go by the theory that Wooyoung knows Hongjoong is crazy, and is trying to stop him (I presume to fix the universe, save the world, etc), then, this role makes sense for him. He is literally trying to fix the universe and the group, and Hongjoong.

Food for thought.

I love Yunho's reaction. Also, he too is working on something. So maybe it's the concept. Or, it could be related to his role as the Second Mate - whose role is to make sure the ship is going the way it needs to, and who thus, would also be involved in whatever he needs to be involved in to make sure they're going the right way.

In 'Don't Stop' they sent out the unbeatable San-Wooyoung team to do the dangerous gambling, but in this MV they send their precious maknae? Rip Jongho. He does look very cool in this scene, though.

Jongho shows an A card, and, since this guy has a Z card, I assume this is a subtle hint that he's been completely readable and completely under Jongho's control the whole time?

Epic freeze-frame. That looks like Mingi's body and outfit on the right - or am I hallucinating?

Seonghwa's stylists knocking it out of the park yet again. Anyway, he's rocking out. I don't have much to say about that - as the 1st mate, he is the face of the group when Hongjoong is behind the scenes. He was literally framed as THE spirit of ATEEZ and HALATEEZ in HALAZIA. Hence, he's basically their 'headliner' or 'frontman' - hence, he jams out in front of their followers. And punches us.

Not entirely sure what's going on here - is he rising? Falling? Both? Neither? Eh.

So, you all know that I usually hate anything crotch-grabby or hip-thrusty - I'm a very, very, deeply ace person. But this is acceptable. Because this shot isn't sexual - this is a hilarious 'haha look how much better than you I am, I'm going to sit on you without a care in the world' kind of shot. It adds character and comedy to the MV, and emphasises how cool ATEEZ are. It also gets even better when you think about how the cameraman had to get down on the ground, and the director had to direct Wooyoung to shove his butt in the camera. They then had to do all the set-up it takes to take a shot (a surprising amount), do the whole 'and... action!' thing, and then take MULTIPLE takes of Wooyoung shoving his butt in the camera. Absolutely hilarious.

I could have told you that. I love the reporter's face in the background. And how Hongjoong still has his Captain's mark. Of course.

Well, buddy, that's what you get for breaking the law.

A lot of people pointed out how he looks actually insane when he's running here - he's got the blend of joy, adrenaline, insanity, and fear going well. And... well, yeah, he is insane. IRL, but ESPECIALLY in the storyline.

He's so insane the police don't know what to do with him...

Here is a cute puppy - a continuation of Hongjoong being associated with animals. I assume this is his dog, since it doesn't have a police dog uniform or anything.

Another great reaction in this MV, and the usual ATEEZ posters.

I love the comic frames, but I'm not so sure what their point is other than to punctuate the song, add visual interest and spunk, and highlight how crazy and villainous Hongjoong is.

Which I guess is a purpose, but I mean STORYLINE purpose.

Perhaps that they are taking over the media? And of course that Hongjoong is crazy.

The insanity's moving down the heirarchy... none of us are safe.

Epic kpop transitions are back. And yes, that was Mingi in the background.

after a while he did get in contact with her and two years later he decided to go visit her for an undetermined amount of time, mostly because he felt like he was becoming a drain on his parents

his bio mom is a really nice woman and angel likes her plenty but they’re just ... very different people. she treated angel like a little kid and tried to parent him, which angel was very resistant against. she also kept calling him hayan ( the name she had given him at birth ) which irked him somewhat

after a few months of living with her, he decided that it wasn’t good for either of them to live together so he packed his bags and moved to seoul. he didn’t tell his parents this, because he knew they would want him back stateside instead of in a country where he barely spoke the language

he kept in contact with his bio mom and they have a tentative friendship, and she helped him get settled in seoul where he lived in an apartment with four of his friends

he didn’t do much in seoul at first tbh. kinda just drank and went out and worked odd jobs to pay for his stupid whims. the only reason he ever considered doing anything else in his life is because he was stopped by a recruiter while super hungover one monday morning and decided. why the hell not

so he joined angelfish and surprisingly actually put in effort into his training. because of his looks, he was a backup dancer for one of angelfish’s bgs and he also was a backup dancer in phoenix’s God’s Menu MV

because angelfish had no plans on debuting a bg any time soon, when they offered him the chance to join select!, he decided why the hell not and here he is.

Even written it's sincere. Of course it was. Serena had a way of telling when someone needed her help no questions asked. Even if that means cleaning up their bloody head wound late at night and locking up her doors. Sure it might mean she'd loose customers. But it was a necessary sacrifice to make them feel safe.

2021 Retrospective: Artist of the Year

ONF (Beautiful Beautiful, Ugly Dance, POPPING, Goosebumps)

As somebody who spend half of 2020 getting into ONF, seeing them get their deserved first win with Beautiful Beautiful was just… beautiful. The other three comebacks they had this year were also great. Ugly Dance is solid, POPPING is a great refreshing summer bop (with people dying in the MV) and Goosebumps came out of nowhere with a very undeterminable chorus and closed out an amazing year for them. They really had a great run and I hope they can continue this after their return from the military.

Honourable Mentions:

xaa-xaa (Gogatsu-byo, Ju Gatsu Itsuka Getsuyobi Barabara)

This band is the only Visual Kei band on my radar that seems to still be releasing music. The songs they released this year are all good and somehow this always surprises me, despite them releasing Bangers annually. I hope 2022 marks the time, where I’m not surprised anymore (I doubt it).

SHINee (Don’t Call Me, Atlantis, Superstar & Advice, BAD LOVE, Heartbreak)

SHINee finally came back from military, released an album, a repackage and a Japanese single, all in the span of six months and then Taemin enlisted. Yet somehow, their presence was still strong in the second half of 2021. Minho got back into acting, making history by playing a gay character in a K-Drama, being casted into two more dramas before the year ended. He also released a solo single. And Key released his mini album BAD LOVE, which is just full of bangers. And they did all off that while flirting on Instagram.

TXT (0x1=Lovesong (I Know I Love You), LO$ER=LO♡ER, Frost)

In 2020 I finally understood the hype around Stray Kids. This year, I finally understand the hype around TXT. Their concept of changing positions in the group with each comeback is unique and allows all of the members to show off equally. The musical direction they took this year also helped. Both 0x1=Lovesong (I Know I Love You) and LO$ER=LO♡ER are absolute Bangers (despite having dumb names) and feel like something not many other groups could pull off.

PURPLE KISS (Can We Talk Again, Ponzona, Zombie, Cast Pearls Before Swine)

Nominating a rookie group for AOTY? Yes, if it is PURPLE KISS. Both their debut and first Comeback were just impressive. They don’t sound or act like rookies at all. It really seems like they already spend years in this industry. I really hope they can do even more great stuff in 2022.

Nayoung, Minkyung, Kyungwon, Kyulkyung, Eunwoo, Yebin, and Siyeon auditioned for PD101 S1. Nayoung and Kyulkyung made it into the final group, IOI. The members who competed did not yet use their stage names.

Under the name PLEDIS GIRLZ, the ten members now in PRISTIN, made an unofficial debut in order for Sungyeon (then, Shannon) to appear on JTBC’s Girl Spirit! Here is one of her performances! They also released the track WE, initially under the name PLEDIS GIRLZ.Eunwoo was also featured on the track Sickness with SEVENTEEN's 

Each member had individual cover videos, which can be found on the pledisartist YouTube channel. 

Both before and after their official name reveal, they released a debut cover project. All videos can be found on the pledisartist YouTube Channel as well!

PLEDIS GIRLZ had several concerts prior to debut. Videos of their concerts can be found in this lovely playlist I found on YouTube!This playlist also includes their predebut individual covers as well as post-debut videos!

V APP is honestly one of the best ways to get to know any k-pop group! I suggest watching PRISTIN’s V APPs, both as PLEDIS GIRLZ and PRISTIN. They’re cute and fun! Here’s their channel.

2. HICAMs are little behind the scenes clips of the girls, both as PLEDIS GIRLZ and as PRISTIN! Here is a playlist of them.I love HICAM’s, and I think they’re a great way to get to know the girls a little better!

To all of the people supporting Idolish Seven,

We were able to celebrate Idolish Seven's second anniversary today! Once again, all of us staff members would like to thank everyone.

During the 1st anniversary last year, we announced that we took a big step towards the future. Indeed, during the course of this year, we were able to steadily advance forward. We are truly thankful for all of your support.

Last but not least, we'd like to announce future directions for this project with a new year ahead of us.

[About the Project as a Whole]

◆ About Part 3 As you may recall from the July update, the new idol group 『ŹOOĻ』 appeared, and Part 3 has been full of ups and downs. "Look towards the future, and nothing more──" 

Just as this catchphrase says, please walk alongside the idols as they head towards their futures until the very end.

Additionally, we've released the 2nd Anniversary Story today. The story takes place a little after the groups were selected to appear on Friends Day, just as we first introduced it in the King's pudding Times (TL note: so somewhere around the beginning of Part 3, Chapter 8).

As for the timing of the updates, we will release a follow up announcement on it. For the time being we are making meticulous preparations, so please bear with us! We don't want to keep you all waiting for too long, so please look forward to the last half of the battle, more dramatic than anything thus far!

◆ About the Music Following the July 7th release of IDOLiSH7's "Sakura Message" single, ŹOOĻ will be releasing their "Poisonous Gangster" single on August 30th.

Not just that! Just as IDOLiSH7 released their "i7" album last year, TRIGGER will be releasing their "REGALITY" album on September 20th! We are very excited for everyone to get their hands on a copy, and we are certain that the contents will be surprising.

We announced TRIGGER's new song "DAYBREAK INTERLUDE" today. The lyrics are very important to the world of Idolish Seven. Please look forward to the full version of the song!

We plan to release the music in Part 3 (presumably online) as well as in CD format. Please await further announcements on this issue.

◆ About the Anime Project Thus far, we've revealed a teaser visual for the anime project. Idolish Seven's anime project won't be limited to just a TV series-- please look forward to a spin-off series as well!

We are sure you all will be surprised once you hear about the contents, and we are also excited as well!

[About Future Game Adjustments and Feature Additions]

We've finally reached Version 3.0 of the game! We will also be releasing new features in-game this fall!

◆ Addition of New Features Here we'll be detailing new features that we've mentioned in previous issues.

① RabbitNote (slated for mid-September) As we've described earlier, we'll be adding a function where you can boost an individual idol's stats using items. This will influence your rhythm game results, so please raise your favorite idol's stats! 

(TL note: Picture says 'Nanase Riku's note' so this may be a function universal to ALL Riku cards. Also, if you're familiar with Ensemble Stars or Uta Macross or any other game that uses branching stat-boosts, this appears to be something similar!)

② RabbitHall (slated for end of September) This is a function for enjoying MVs, or scenario situations. We've made this hall so you can enjoy chibi forms of the idols performing on-stage!

◆ About Game Adjustments We've made some adjustemnts to the game as a whole. This time, because we'd like as many managers as possible to enjoy the story as possible, we've made the following adjustments:

Part 1 story unlock level is halved

Part 2 story lives use only half the Life previously required, and difficulty has also been adjusted.

The Tales collaboration cards and Sakura Message cards will also be released at later time, at the moment undetermined.
