Even if the attachment has lessened for obvious reasons, we do--we did share time together and had a few things in common." Kikyou paused as she reflected upon the hanyou, perhaps even wistfully. Has it truly lessened or was she willfully suppressing and ignoring it ? "The bond we once shared..the time spent getting to know him..It all helps make him more alluring." With Sesshomaru, she knew very little apart from what she has observed in the small amount of time spent together. For Kikyou, looks were not enough for her to find someone 'hot'.

"Inuyasha is the more enticing one..For now at least."

FF7 Rebirth spoilers below the cut:

I don't have a clue wtf just went on with Cloud deflecting Masamune but also not leading to Aerith's death but not. Its a such a bullshit thing that tries to have its cake and eat it too; but at least the other Aerith is still technically alive waiting to be woken up in one of the multiple worlds. And I guess "ghost Aerith" is technically still around too. Regardless to the "Aerith has to die" crowd: FUCK YOU. The reality is that she didn't actually need to die, there's not a damn thing that required that outside of edgelord incel shitbags that have a death kink. Which ironically fucking enough the ending of Rebirth even backs up cause there's even fucking LESS shown as to why she died. She sure as hell isn't going to be stopping Meteor nor would that require her dying; instead she does so because incel shitbags wanted it & the OG game did it. Interesting originality be fucked, instead stick to the same goddamn bad end route bullshit as the OG game. I'll stick around to see the trilogy finished, but I'm openly stating now that I'm 1/3rd checked the fuck out. Also just going to put this out there: don't even mention Cloti anywhere near me cause that's been thoroughly ruined and I don't look forward to whatever happens in part 3. And just ftr no I'm not a Clerith and actually ship Cloti in OG, but not in the R-trilogy where Aerti has shined far more via their closeness.

Hope it was worth it writers, you had the chance to actually do an interesting alternate route that rewards people that have been hoping for a "good end route" and who liked/loved Remake for its unique interesting new storyline. But instead chose to throw it away in such a bullshit manner to appeal/line up with the same shitheads that bashed Remake for daring to do its own thing; or to repeat the same goddamn story as before rather than forge a new path. And I can't stress enough how the way it was done is such a shitty ass manner. Either Cloud deflects Sephiroth's sword and Aerith lives or he fucking doesn't and she dies; either fate is changeable or its not; either there's a multiverse of unlimited potentials including Aerith living or there isn't; etc. Fuck 5% of Rebirth, the other 95% is great. Such a goddamn waste. If Nomura is the one responsible for Remake's "fuck Fate, let's make our own path" aspect, then plz let him be the main one heading up Part 3 to try to course correct back from the betrayal of the concept that Rebirth's last 5% did. Show the timeline where Cloud did indeed save Aerith and have that Aerith join the team; have them break Fate instead of treating it as some immutable thing cause fuck that; and no more bullshit like having someone block a strike then having the story backhand via shitty ass reality rewrites (a la Masamune stuck in the ground to the side from an unharmed Aerith that suddenly is reality warped to have blood on it and Aerith being hit with a phantom stabbing cause "Fate"). I'll easily take Remake's vision over Rebirth's last 5% (I have to stress this cause 95% of Rebirth is fantastic, its only the last 5% that is incel edgelord nihilistic garbage to justify killing off a character cause "that's what happened in OG".

And let me be clear on this: my anger isn't where it should be which at Sephiroth as the one that did the deed as the villain aka proper narrative writing. My anger instead is aimed at the bullshit method of how it was done, which isn't how a narrative should come across. All I see if the very blatantly check off box that was bent to reach. Remake was 95% good, 5% mindblowing and getting me heavily invested; Rebirth 95% great, 5% bullshit and throwing away an entire section of investment. I really am having to work to give a shit about the remaining characters, cause the writing's failing caused that level of collapse.

Since this is the rant post: While I give credit for mostly shying away from sexist incel tropes in regards to the femme characters; don't even think for a second I didn't notice the little things that are there still. Shiva having jiggle physics; and even Tifa being hit with them during particular side quests. Edit: So from what I've gathered the main case of Tifa having them is a matter of you're expected to have her swimsuit on at that point, instead of her regular one; so while still annoying cause jiggle physic shouldn't be there at all its at least not in defiance of her sports bra that'd be more egregious.

I'm fucking done.

The really infuriating part is that I'd STILL give Rebirth like an 8/10 or even 9/10; cause as I've repeatedly mentioned 95% is just THAT damn good.

2019 December Update

The game is officially playable from beginning to end!

That battle has concluded...

Soon begins the war! But first, a brief reprieve for the holidays.

And I must throw in the usual caveats. We're still playtesting, we're still polishing, we still gotta get age ratings, more red tape, etc etc. And most importantly, we need to figure out the launch strategy. Think Megaman, charging his shot for 5 and a half years... We're not allowed to miss at this point. It has to HIT.

Luckily, we're in a relatively stable position where we don't have to rush the game out immediately. It's not LAUNCH or STARVE - it's... take some time to aim a little. We don't want to launch in the shadow of a bigger behemoth game, and we don't want to launch completely unknown either. We have to build up the game's media presence, which has been neglected so far. I know it's annoying to have to continue to wait... but please bear with us a little longer!

Here's what we've been doing for the past couple months.

---------- THE SCRIPT ----------

The script sits at over 80,000 words. I didn't realize the significance until a teammate told me that that's actually as long as a novel! I looked it up, and sure enough, it's a little longer than the first Harry Potter. But unlike Harry Potter, hardly any of these words are wasted on, pffft, narration. It's all juicy dialogue!

There was actually a lot of mundanity getting to the end. Pirate, acting as my editor, caught tons of errors and inconsistencies. One of the most recurring issues had to do with capitalization. I like to capitalize things, often inconsistently. Some common questions that arose:

Why is this text highlighted yellow, and this one highlighted blue?

Why is this monster name capitalized, but this monster not?

Why is this item capitalized, and this one not?

... and so on!

All very mundane issues, but all very necessary to tackle. And there was a TON of 'em. (em vs 'em was another thing we had to make consistent). I actually did some research to see what capitalization rules Zelda had. From what I could tell, when it comes to animals and monsters in the Zelda universe:

All monsters are capitalized

All regular animals are not capitalized

The Cuccos are special, and ARE capitalized

In the Zelda universe, all regular items are lowercase, but highlighted blue when mentioned in a quest context (e.g. "butter", "hylian wheat"). Items can be uppercase, if they are special named items (e.g. "Sheikah Slate"). We adopted similar rules as Zelda in some cases, and deviated in others. For instance, in the Phoenotopia universe, there isn't a clear distinction between animals and monsters - that fish monster is really just an animal that happens to be the alpha predator in its natural habitat. So most entities are lowercase, but "big deal" entities can be uppercase.

---------- A SAMPLING of QUEST AND CHARACTERS ----------

A lot of new quests have arisen in our great writing effort extending over the past several months. And with it, new characters, big and small. I'll tease a sampling of some of them here (warning: some light spoilers ahead):

My favorite new quest is undoubtedly our game's new "Trading Quest". This one takes inspiration from the Zelda series - the trading quest similarly has you roaming the world and its towns in search of needy people who desire a particular item. Deliver them the item they desire, and get a new item. Do this 10 times, and the ultimate weapon awaits you at the end.

I tried some things to vary up the formula. Some NPCs don't reveal what they need right away - steps have to be taken to get them there. It's also possible to go down the wrong route in the sequence, and have to double-back. We try to keep it interesting.

---------- LOOT PLACEMENTS & GAME BALANCING ----------

A great effort was also spent towards balancing the game this past 2 months. Because even one good healing item, easily obtained, can throw the game's whole difficulty off-kilter. And this same principle applies to other areas, like the money economy and player powerup options. Altogether, they form a very delicate ecosystem for enjoyment.

One of the recent things I did for this game was put down exactly where each heart ruby, energy gem, and moonstone could be found. And this was actually a rather involved process because you have a limited number of rewards to distribute (you wouldn't want the final max HP count to be a weird number like 297). Put too many rewards in the beginning, and the late dungeons would have no rewards to offer. Put too much in the end, and the inverse happens.

I found myself going back into earlier areas and plundering their rewards to fill the later areas. And then to ensure a relatively even spread of rewards within each area themselves, I drew crude maps of the dungeons & their reward spots, so that they could be studied from a bird's eye perspective.

But it was still not enough. With NPC quests and towns also taking up their own allotment of the rewards, I found myself running low on things to distribute. So I went back to the books and upped the number of rewards across the board. Before there were 44 Heart Rubies to collect - there are now 55. Before each Heart Ruby boosted your max HP by 5, but now each one now boosts your max HP by 4, so your final max HP count would still end up the same. It's kinda similar to what happened with Twilight Princess, where they broke with tradition and made 5 heart containers required to gain a new heart instead of the usual 4. Overall, the final tally for treasure to find is:

55 heart pieces

30 energy gems

108 moon stones

Who's crazy enough to collect them all?

---------- BADGES / ACHIEVEMENTS ----------

As one of the game's finishing touches, there's a menu for BADGES - they're this game's version of achievements. This is an ongoing task that we hope to stamp out this December. A few favorites of mine from the original flash game will return ("Pillow Connoisseur" is among them).

I allocated slots for just 33 badges, so we're selecting the badges very carefully. We got rid of most of the fluffy ones that appeared in the flash game - we wanted to reduce the number of badges that you would earn automatically for just playing the game (so no more "1st boss", "2nd boss", "3rd boss" achievements). We're aiming for a healthy mix of easily earned badges, hard earned badges, collectathon badges, secret fun badges, and so on.

The badges have another twist - they bear miniaturized portraits of characters from the game! In the initial brainstorm mockup phase, I wasn't really fond of the badge designs. You got a medal of a heart because you collected some hearts, and you got the medal of a moonstone for collecting moonstones, etc. It just seemed so... expected.

How could we engage the players on a more fun and deep level? The idea came - what if we attached pictures of the people you meet on your journey? And these people's stories and character would have a connection with the achievement? That could keep the player guessing which character would come attached with an achievement, or even reveal a hidden detail about the character you didn't know.

---------- MUSIC ----------

Will has just one more task to do. And that's to recut the song for the trailer. One of our other goals for this December is to make a really good trailer... again. There's actually 2 other trailers we cut and never made public for reasons. Maybe I'll talk about them one day in the post-mortem.

Since this may be the last conventional update, we wondered with which song to best leave the audience. And we decided that the most suitable song is "Sanctuary". It's a song that the player will often encounter often when they happen upon a quiet resting place in the world.

There's a little story behind this song. Two and a half years ago, I linked Will the Earthbound song, "Buzz buzz's prophecy", and told him, make a song like that!

In response, Will made "Sanctuary".

Shafiyahh is another consistent contributor, and made one in the spirit of Halloween. I really like their costumes! Gale as an angel, and Lisa as a demon, fittingly captures their relationship, since Gale is the responsible one and Lisa is the troublemaker. So cute!

A contribution from a new artist, Negativus Core! Wow, Gale looks so bada-- here! We often forget about Gale's tough side due to the cutesy graphics. This is probably how her enemies see her. And the gummy (slime) is a cute touch!

---------- FINAL NOTES ----------

Similar to last year, this will be the last update for a while. If things run too slow, I'll post a status update come end of February 2020.

It's possible, and this is a BIG IF, that something notable happens sooner than expected - like we're going to a con or we have reason to drop the trailer sooner than later. If so, this blog will update earlier than expected. BIG IF. Otherwise, it's end of February till next you hear of us.

The game's development has reached a new uncharted territory. We're going to take the time and figure out exactly what our next steps are. In addition, we'll still be doing some playtesting and script polishing. And we'll be taking a break too. It is the holiday season, things move kind of slow around this time of year. We'll enjoy the company of our family and friends.

S.T. REWRITE - S2:E2; Chapter Two, Trick or Treat, Freak - [Pt. 3 - FINAL PART]

A Will Byers x Reader Series

After Will sees something terrible on trick-or-treat night, Mike wonders whether Eleven’s still out there. Tensions grow between Y/n and Mike as does their concern for Will.

||Reader's POV||

There was a slight hiccup in plans, so I was unable to go over to wills house before hand for trick-or-treating, but thankfully everything was back on track. I ended meeting at mikes house with Dustin and by the looks of it, we had gotten there just in time. Jonathan pulled up and we all waited anxiously for them. The boys started hitting each other with their empty pillow cases and I laughed. Movement up ahead caught my eye and i smiled when I saw will heading our way

"Hey, Egon!"

We all caught up quickly before, planning our route.

"So, Jonathan's not coming?" I asked, knowing that was originally the plan.

Will smiled and told us Jonathan was cool enough to let us go alone, as long as he was back by 9. I smiled at him and linked our arms, as I goofily marched on down the street.

"Tonight we feast, fellas!"

We'd been out for about an hour now, and will had turned on the video camera he brought.

We all waited patiently at the front door, Dustin and Lucas fought over who got to ring the bell. Soon enough a nice lady answered the door.

"Trick or treat!"

"Oh!" She beamed, reaching for the candy bowl. "Well, aren't you cute? The little exterminators." We all tried to hide our disappointment and the unexpected statement, when the lady turned to me.

"And who are you, young lady?" I forced a weak and awkward smile, and I felt the camera pan over to me, I could see Will snickering at the comment.

"Uh," I looked around, and finally shrugged. "It doesn't matter, thank you!" I trailed off, taking the candy. 

The door had closed behind us and the boys did not miss the opportunity to laugh. "Well, at least I'm not an exterminator!" I retort with a laugh.

Lucas began rummaging through his pillow case and sighed. "If I get another 3 Musketeers, I'm gonna kill myself."

"What's wrong with 3 Musketeers?" Dustin asked.

"'What's wrong with 3 Musketeers'?"

"No one likes 3 Musketeers." Mike argued.

"Yeah, it's just nougat?." Will said.

"Uh oh, here we go." I thought.

Dustin was quick to the defense. "Whoa, 'just nougat'? Just nougat? It is top three for me."

"Top three?"

"Top three!"

"Oh God, Give me a break." Mike whined.

"Seriously, I can just eat a whole bowl of nougat. Straight up."

"That's cause you're weird, Dustin." I laughed, as he stuck his tongue out at me.

I had fallen into the head of the group and just as I turned around I was surprised to say the least when I saw a Michael Myers Mask inches from my face, the figure was in all black and swinging a machete.

In my fight or flight response, I screamed, and threw my arms out and pushed the figure away as backed up.

The figure had been laughing, by winced and it's hands flew to to it's arm, holding it and wincing. "Ow, what the hell?"

The voice sounded familiar and with it's free hand, pulled the mask back and we all relaxed when we saw it was Max.

She shook her arm out and frowned, seeming confused, but she looked back at us and laughed.

"Holy shit! You should have seen the look on your faces. Also, your hands are, are like burning up, you might have a fever or something, cause like, what the hell was that. And you?" She pointed at Lucas. "Who screams like that? You sound like a little girl." 

She laughed and continued walking. I looked down at my hands and saw that they were still pretty red. I frowned as I looked at my hands, and rolled up my hands and touched m arm, wincing at how hot it was.

Lately, I've been noticing that it's been getting... worse. More frequent, to be specific. It's getting harder to control, like when I'm caught off guard like this, it's like a reflex and I can't control it. I don't know what's wrong with me, or how this is possible, or even how in the hell I got these abilities, but i can't help but feel more.... isolated. I-

"[Y/N]?"

I looked, up, realizing everyone was heading for the next house, except for Will. He lowered the camera a little.

"Are you okay?" 

I smiled weakly and shook my head. "Yeah, I'm fine." I wanted to tell him my concerns, but the tape was going so I opted not to. "Let's go, we better catch up."

I straightened my head and kept on walking.

Some time had passed, and we had stopped by a few houses at Loch Nora. And Max was right, there were a ton of full sized candy bars.

"Another full-size. Like, seriously, rich people are such suckers." Dustin laughed, but then he grew quiet. "Wait, you're not rich, right?"

"No, I live up Old Cherry Road."

"Oh,"

"No, it's fine. I mean, the street's good for skating."

"Mmm, yeah. Totally tubular." Max raised her eyebrows and laughed at Dustin's comment.

"What? Did I say that right? Or is it, like, tubular."

Lucas and Dustin started doing their impression of a surfer, which made Max and I laugh. "Stop, my ears are actually hurting."

I had started to fall behind so I could walk with Mike and Will.

"You okay, Mike? You've been quiet."

He looked between Will and I, Will was now aiming the camera at us.

"Did you agree to this?" 

"What?" Will asked.

"What do you mean?"

Will lowered the camera. 

Mike glared at Max. "To her joining our party."

"It's just for Halloween." Will offered.

"You should have checked with me." He snapped.

I frowned. "Mike, what is your problem?" I asked, annoyed by his sudden behavior.

"She is! She's my problem. She's ruining the best night of the year." With that he stormed off.

"Mike," I called after him, quickly walking to catch up with him. "Mike, we should at last talk about this, Mike-!"

I heard a clatter from where we came from and my instinctively whipped around. I noticed Will wasn't with us.

"Will?" I called out, my heart starting to pound.

I ran back around the corner, and I could hear Mike following me.

I wanted to kick myself for not getting there in time, a bunch of a-hole teenagers were harassing him. Will was laying on his back, looking taken aback and his camera was on the ground with him. But all I could focus on were those bullies who were laughing and pointing at him as they walked away.

I ran after them. "Hey, piss off! You leave him alone, you hear me? Mind your own fucking business, a-holes!"

They just laughed and sneered as they kept on walking. I took a sharp and deep breath, and turned around. I heard Will calling my name, he was frightened.

"Will, are you okay-?"

"[Y/N]! Mike!"

I felt my stomach drop when I saw him. He was pale as a ghost and staring up at the sky. Before I could say or do anything, he turned ran behind some houses.

"Will!" I ran after him and I could hear Mike behind me. 

"What's going on?"

"He must be having another episode. Some assholes cornered him and now he's having an attack. Come on!"

I heard other footsteps join us and I assumed the others overheard and ran after us.

I saw Will stop suddenly and dive behind a ledge. "Will!"

I came around to halt, and saw more frightened than I'd seen him in a while. He was clutching his legs as they were tucked far into his chest, he rocked back and forth, his eyes closed and his breathing heavy."

My heart ached to see him like this. As quickly as my body could register, I reached out to him and put a hand on his shoulder. He jumped when he saw me.

"Will, it's me. It's okay, it's over. It's just me. What happened."

His eyes ere wide and frantic, he was looking around, still in shock.

"Will, I need you to breathe, okay?" He was shaking pretty heavily but he looked at me and nodded, taking deep breathes.

"Holy shit!"

"Is he okay?'

The others had caught up to us. 

"I-I don't know."

Mike knelled down and I moved over so they could talk.

"Will are you hurt? Are you okay?"

"I'm gonna get you home, okay? I'm gonna get you home. Hold on."

I stood up and offered my hand, Mike did the same. Will grabbed our hands and shakily stood up, he still hadn't said a word.

I grabbed an arm and started soothing him. That was when Mike snapped at me. "I got him."

I just stood there in shocked silence.

Even Dustin seemed put off by his behavior. "Mike?"

"Keep trick-or-treating. I'm bored anyways." He had a weird venom in his voice, and my blood began to boil.

We all stared after them. I was very angry at Mike, but more than anything I as worried about Will, and I just wanted to make sure he was okay.

"What's wrong with him?"

I felt anger and sadness blending together and I stormed off. I wanted to run after Mike and give him a piece of my mind, but I knew that's not what Will needs right now. I stopped short when I saw Will's camera and candy bag. I sighed, all the anger leaving my body and all that was left was worry.

I walked over and knelled down, pickup the camera and checking it. Thankfully, it seemed to still be in good shape, nothing other than some scratches and a dent in the plastic but other than that it seemed fine. I sighed, and turned off the camera, having realized it was still on. I closed it up and knelled back down, picking up his pillow case full of candy. 

My mind was racing, and but it never seemed to leave Will. 

||3rd Person POV||

"It's like... It's like I'm stuck."

Mike and Will had made it back to Mike's house. Will was currently waiting for Jonathan to show up, and the two were hiding out in the basement. Just before they had gotten to the house, [Y/N] had caught up to them, returning Will's camera and candy. She checked in with Will and quietly slipped away, something the boys couldn't help but feel a little bad for, Mike specifically.

Will had calmed down enough and he trembled ever so slightly as he recalled the encounter.

"Like, like, stuck in the Upside Down?" Mike asked gently.

"No." Will sighed, trying to find the right words. "You know how on a View-Master, when it get's like..." Will struggled with the words and gesturing.

"Caught between two slides?"

"Yeah. Like that. Like, one side's our world, and the other... the other slide is the Upside Down."

Mike was quiet s tried to understand all that was being said, all the while Will continued. "And there was this noise coming from everywhere."

Mike noticed the look in Will's eye, it was distant like he wasn't there. "And then I saw something."

"The demogorgon?"

"No. It was like this huge shadow in the sky. Only, it was alive. and it was coming for me."

"Is this all real?" Mike asked gently. "Or is it like the doctors say, all in your head?"

"I don't know. Just..." Will looked to Mike desperately. "Just please don't tell the others, okay? Especially [Y/N]. I don't want her to worry, and... and I know she's got a lot of stuff to worry abut already. And the others, they... They won't understand."

Mike looked to his lap and nodded. "Eleven would."

Will recalled all the stories they would tell him about Eleven. This made Will perk up. "She would?"

"Yeah. She always did."

The boys grew silent and Mike smiled sadly. "Sometimes I feel like, I can still see her. Like she's still around, but she never is." he shook his head, sniffling ever so slightly. "I don't know. Sometimes I feel like I'm going crazy."

"Me, too."

Mike looked to his best friend and smiled weakly. "Hey, well, if we're both going crazy, then we'll go crazy together, right?"

Will chuckled lightly, and smiled at Mike. "Yeah. Crazy together."

"[Y/N], are you sure you're okay, you seem kinda not fine" Dustin called after his sister as she walked sadly into the house.

Her only reply was the front door slamming shut. Dustin sighed and was about to go after her when he heard a noise coming from behind him. He froze in place, and ever so slowly turned around. He stared at the metal trashcan as he heard the strange noise again. It was strange, high pitched growl.

"Mews," he called softly, not believing for a second i twas his mother's cat. "is that--"

The trash can moved suddenly with a loud echoing thud and Dustin gasped, dropping his bag of candy on the pavement. His heart was racing and he kept telling himself that there had to be reasonable explanation but for the life of him he could not think of one. Dustin slowly reached behind his back and pulled out his "proton blaster" and aimed it at the trash.

He slowly and cautiously stalked forward.

The high pitched growl echoed off in a metallic manner once more and the trash can shook.

He crept further. "Shit. Shit. Shit. Shit."

It chirped and growled. 

He stepped closer.

It growled again.

This is it, He thought, Now or never.

Dustin summoned every scrap of courage he could muster and let out his best battle cry as he ripped the lid off the trash can, and aiming his blaster at the bottom of the can.

He froze suddenly, staring at the strange sight before him.

"Holy sh-"

Next are characters, which I more or less already knew before this but have more context now: (only minor spoilers for this part)

Cloud-

He’s like Finn from Star Wars, Ex Shinra, Ex Stormtrooper, they know the ins and outs of the enemies. He really takes it serious about his money though, in a way I could see why with the slums and all as well as it being an excuse to hide his feelings but I just didn’t expect it. It sounds like one of his battle quotes is “It’s time” and I say out loud “Time to de-evilize!” He has a few similar to Sora too that I like. But I have a bit of a pet peeve...LET ME PLAY AS YOUNG CLOUD AND TIFA $%^*&#@!

Villains-

Is Sephiroth a cross between Palpatine and Scar? “Let the hate consume you.” The other villains such as Heidigger (who is voiced by John DiMaggio of all people) are kind of annoying to be honest, I was bored every scene he was in, I like John DiMaggio, it made me think we were fighting Dr. Drakken, scar and all but I just don’t think we need to see him deploy the enemies every time, it just seems pointless. It’s not a hamper on the story or anything, I mean there are tons of villains in games that are just there and it’s fine all the same, plus we have better villains in the game so it evens out.

Barrett-

He’s cool and gosh dang Marlene is adorable. But Barrett plays pretty nicely, it’d be kind of cool if he was the exception to gameplay type and went full on 3rd person shooter and you could just aim all over the place but he’s still really fun to play.

Tifa-

is a sweetheart. When I first saw her character, it was in KH2 and she was tearing apart this room, punching walls, and kicking down doors to find Cloud. While she keeps the strength, maybe she acted like that in the original but not here. I hear that personalities between her and Aerith have changed over time? Like there are different versions and they act different since there’s FF7, Advent Children, Crisis Core and this remake, maybe it’s just the fan perception, I’m not sure. Oh and I played Tifa’s theme on the jukebox and she started bobbing her head, so they respond to the music you play.

I know doing some of the mundane sounding side quests with Tifa, made them a whole lot better, when I said it helps the world building, I wasn’t kidding, she made me feel motivated like “Yeah this is a life in the slums but she’s making the best of it and I’m comfortable.” I’d say her play style (in Smash terms) would be similar to Sonic, she’s fast (there’s even a speed upgrade you can get) but carries a punch if you have the right equipment.

Red XIII-

They call him a ‘lab rat dog’ but he’s a lion...right? He’s not in it a whole lot so I don’t have much to say about him other than him having a killer design and he and Barrett make the best joke of the game (the car one). You don’t play as him which I believe you could in the original, he still helps out with damage though which brings me to another topic, I know I finished gameplay but this would’ve been a great opportunity to use more reaction commands, you don’t really see them in much of any game any more, they’re like the Star Wars prequels, you don’t realize what you have until it’s gone, there are a good bit of moments like that.

Aerith-

Trust me, I loved climbing rooftops with her. One thing I see pointed out is that she’s a bit more sassy in this version, it’s kind of funny at times. Her dodge could use a little work though I could say that she’s not an experienced fighter like the others yet her magic came in clutch for me time and time again. Both her and Tifa are cool with kids but Aerith and that scene in Chapter 12 was the first part I got chills.

I didn’t do all of the Chapter 8 (Sector 5, where Aerith is) side quests because I did the first few and hated them, those hedgehog pies and smoggers are really annoying, I figured whoever I choose, I’ll make up for it later. Now I’m going to put this is in a context so people who played understand and those who haven’t won’t since I’m not technically into the story section. The whole secret with Aerith is just weird in my opinion, I mean it ties in with the story and is in the original but I had to look that up, I actually thought that that would’ve been one of the big changes they made but no.

What route did I take? I knew beforehand that I would have to kind of sway towards one character or another, whether that be Tifa or Aerith and so on but I never knew who I was going to pick pre-game. I kind of tried to stay mindful of what exactly I was choosing while at the same time just doing it “my way” and see what happens, who I’ll like better. What I hate is that you have to choose before you give both girls a fair shot and get proper introduction because you have to do all the quests in chapter 3 to get Tifa and skip it to get Aerith (you could probably still save it because of the date points but still). It said you have to pick someone regardless whether you do the quests or not so I thought maybe do all the quests in Ch.3 and 8 then go from there, it got to the point where I decided to pick Barrett just so I wouldn’t have to decide but at that point the “point” system was already too high for each of the girls, Barrett’s route was already disabled. The big decision between the two was the sewers which I kind of have to appreciate how that was done. I even made a comparison list because of how much I was thinking about it and whoever got more...you think I’m joking? 

Yeah bad handwriting but I couldn’t come up with any bad things for Tifa other than her trying to be mature, only a few for Aerith as you can see however I actually ended up looking up something that put things in a certain perspective, Aerith saw Zack in Cloud when he was messed up, that might be why she likes him while Tifa likes the real him hence the scene afterwards in the original (plus I think I even heard her call him Zack during combat (unless I misheard, I can’t find any evidence online)). So that means I picked the dress for Tifa, Exotic. Also look at this and tell me that doesn’t fit Aerith.

So those are my ships, I’ll update what happened with them in the story section.

The others in Avalanche, I’ll just lodge together. Wedge, I don’t see why they got Matt L Jones to play him but he also doesn’t do anything so whatever. Biggs is kind of cool I guess, just another hot shot. I’m surprised Jessie got the part she did after playing through the first section, I expected her to be forgotten about after that but no, apparently the remake gave them bigger roles, in the original they were very limited. But Jessie’s pretty cool, my favorite of the bunch and I helped her out when I could but I didn’t choose the “no promises” date option or anything (does that mean I led her on? Is that bad in a video game?) You don’t play as them though, I get that they tried to vary gameplay types with each person and these guys had very similar styles to others already (and you can’t just play as every character you see).

Quick graphics section, you already know they look good, I mean it’s even better than Advent Children (which I haven’t saw much of other than models and screenshots) and that was obviously prerendered CGI but I couldn’t imagine being a fan of the original and seeing these updated designs, not even of the characters but enemies. I was looking at why you can use cure on ghosts and it brought me to the original FF7 wiki and I saw what they used to look like (granted they look cool) but I just never expected such a upscale. It’s something fans can appreciate, and also goes the other way around, I could tell some scenes were from the original and were really improved on, it almost gave me a sense of nostalgia and I never even played the game, this was made with love.

Deacon St. John || Partner in Crime

***** Prompt: While on a supply run, Deacon has a run-in with a mysterious woman and her four-legged companion. *****

~3rd Person POV~

In Marion Forks, Deacon was in search of supplies for himself. The town may have been small, but it proved to be a good place to scavenge resources if he ever ran low on what he needed. He checked inside a couple of houses before moving on to the other places around town. Fortunately, there weren't many Freaks prowling the area since he burnt the nests during his first visit to Marion Forks.

Deacon killed a few Swarmers and Newts as he reached the gas station across from Hungry Jim's. He had left his bike down the road a little ways, not wishing to grab any attention due to its roaring engine. 

Once grabbing what he could from the gas station, Deacon proceeded to the restaurant across the street. Inside Hungry Jim's, the drifter discovered the items he needed to create more bandages and molotov cocktails.

The moment Deacon turned around, a Bleacher hissed and lunged towards him. Confused as to how the monster snuck up on him, he fought against it s it tried to sink it's teeth into his flesh.

Suddenly, the Bleacher was torn off Deacon and dragged by the ankle across the restaurant floor. The drifter watched in amazement as a border collie tore off the Freak's leg to prevent it from getting back up. The dog raised its head, wagging its tail as it barked at him.

Deacon grabbed his boot knife and plunged it through the Bleacher's skull, killing it instantly. Once the monster was dead, he kneeled down and held out a hand towards the canine. "You seem friendly." The border collie moved closer to him, allowing the drifter to pet it.

A smile spread across Deacon's face as he ran his hand through the dog's soft fur. He saw it was a girl and saw how her coat was well maintained and by the size of her stomach, she was fed on a normal basis. One question came to mind as he rubbed behind her ears. "Where's your owner?"

The dog's ears twitched as she backed away and barked at him. She walked around in a circle before running out of the restaurant. When the canine stopped in the street and saw Deacon wasn't following, she sat down and waited for him. Her tail wagged back and forth as she waited patiently.

Puzzled at the dog's behavior, Deacon decided to follow her. She led him through town and up a dirt path leading out of town. A house was located at the end of the path, which seemed to be the animal's destination.

When they arrived at the house, the canine led Deacon to the rear of the house and into the backyard. He spotted a woman with (h/c) hair squatting down beside a small pen filled with hens. She stood up when the border collie ran over and nudged her wet, cold nose into her cheek. "There you are! I was wondering where you went, Hope."

Deacon stood silently a few feet away. When the mysterious woman turned around, her (e/c) eyes widened. She went to grab the pistol strapped to her thigh, but the drifter raised his hands in surrender. "I'm not going to hurt you."

The woman's hand froze as it hovered above her handgun. "Are you the one who rode in on the bike?"

"Yeah," Deacon nodded.

She removed her hand from her firearm with a sigh. "We've been having issues with drifter's lately. You must be one of the good ones if Hope led you here."

"Hope, huh?" Deacon eyes the border collie sitting beside her master.

The woman smiled and placed her hand on top of the dog's head. "Gotta have a little hope somewhere these days."

"You said you were having issues with drifters?" Deacon inquired.

She nodded with a frown. "Yeah, and I know exactly who's sending them."

"Who?"

"A drifter named Liam. He leads a camp located somewhere on the Santiam Highway. I'm not sure where exactly it is, though, but his lackeys always use the same route when they enter town. Hope usually scares them off when they arrive." The woman moved aside, Hope following close behind. "Could I ask for your help in dealing with Liam?"

"I'll deal with Liam. I think he's the same asshole who's been sending drifters to attack the Hot Springs Camp," he answered.

"Wouldn't be surprised. The bastard needs to be killed for all the shit he's done. I can't believe I used to ride alongside him," she sighed. "I'm (Y/n), by the way. Sorry for the late introduction."

"Deacon," the drifter responds.

(Y/n) smiled warmly. "Nice to meet a friendly face this far out. You already know Hope, my partner in crime."

"She saves me from a Freak in town. Never seen a dog go after a Bleacher before," he chuckled.

"She's a tough one," the woman smirked. "But also stubborn. Guess you have to be in order to survive nowadays. Anyway, I better give you a little info about Liam so you'll know what kind of asshole he is."

Once Deacon learned more about Liam from (Y/n), he checked his gear before turning to leave. "I'll take care of Liam."

"Whoa, hold up," the woman cried out. "I'm going with you. What he did to me is unforgivable and I want to make sure he suffers."

Deacon's thoughts were in turmoil. He may have only known (Y/n) for a few minutes, but he didn't want her to get hurt. On the other hand, he could tell by the way she holds herself that she can handle whatever comes her way. Finalizing his decision, he sighed. "Fine. We'll take my bike."

(Y/n) nodded and followed Deacon. When she heard Hope following them, she turned and glared at her. "No, Hope. Go back." The dog whined as she laid down, giving her owner the sad puppy dog eyes. The woman heaved a sigh before turning her back. "Not gonna work this time."

Deacon watched as Hope went back to the house with her tail between her legs. There was no way for the canine to join them on the bike and she would exhaust herself if she tried to keep up with them. The only creature capable of keeping up with the motorcycle were Runners, which are infected wolves.

While making their way to the bike, Deacon suddenly pulled (Y/n) behind a car. She was confused until the sound of multiple motorcycles echoed through the streets of Marion Forks. She peered over he hood of the car, seeing who was riding into town. She recognized one man out of the group. "Shit, it's Liam."

"You must've really pissed him off if he's coming here himself," Deacon remarks.

"I may have killed the last group of drifters he sent after me," she confesses. "Guess that was enough to get him off his ass. This makes our job easier."

"Come on out, (Y/n)! I know you can hear me, you bitch!" Liam shouted. "I also know St. John is with you! I recognize this damn bike from anywhere!"

The woman glanced at Deacon with a smirk as she whispered. "That must be you."

"Let's just say I took out some of his men, too, when they attacked the encampment," the drifter whispered back.

"Great. We're in the same boat."

Liam continued his shouting, attracting any Freakers in the area to his location. His fellow drifters killed the monsters before they could lay a hand on their leader. (Y/n) veered right while Deacon headed left. They snuck around using the various cars as cover to sneak up on the men and women, leaving Liam and the two men guarding him for last.

One by one, the drifters fell. Liam saw his loyal men and women fall. He grabbed his handgun and searched the area where they had fallen. He crept around a truck, hunting for (Y/n) and Deacon.

Suddenly, something leapt onto Liam's back and bit into his neck. He screamed at the top of his lungs as the creature sunk its teeth further into his neck. Blood trickled down his neck as he tried to pry the beast off him.

"Hope, down!" (Y/n) shouted as she emerged from behind a car and approached her companion. The border collie detached her teeth from Liam's neck and ran to the woman's side.

The man pressed his hand against his neck, desperately trying to stop the blood. He staggered, the blood loss taking its toll. He tried to aimed his weapon with a shaky hand as he stumbled closer to her. "F-Fucking mutt!"

Hope growled in response, baring her bloodied fangs. Before Liam could pull the trigger, a gunshot rang out. The drifter grunted, placing his other hand over his chest. With wide eyes, he collapsed to the ground.

(Y/n) turned around, spotting Deacon a few yards away. "Nice shot."

The canine barked jubilantly as she ran over to the drifter and hopped up onto her back legs, placing her front paws on his chest. He chuckled as he ran both of his hands through her black and white fur. She licked him on the face, making (Y/n) smile. The two headed back to the house with Hope in the lead.

Six months have passed since Deacon met (Y/n). He remained in contact with her and would often do jobs with her for the camps around Oregon. She would even share the eggs her hens laid. It was strange having eggs at first, but it provide Deacon and Boozer with a nice, steady flow of food regardless if they got tired of the taste.

One day, Deacon and Boozer were working on their bikes at the O'Leary Mountain safehouse. Their concentration was severed when they heard barking at the gate. The drifters tore their gazes from their motorcycles and saw a dog on the other side of the gate.

"Why is there a dog all the way out here?" Boozer questioned.

Deacon's eyes widened when he recognized the border collie. "That not just any dog. It's Hope."

"You... know the dog?" Boozer asked.

"She's (Y/n)'s dog."

"The egg lady?"

Deacon sighed. "Yes, the egg lady." He searched around, wondering where (Y/n) was. Hope would never wander off too far from the woman's side. Unfortunately, she was nowhere to be seen. It would be strange to see her around since he didn't tell her about their safehouse because they'd always meet up at the encampments or her house in Marion Forks.

Hope continued to bark as Deacon made his way over to the gate. It automatically opened and the dog stormed over to him, grabbing the hem of his shirt between her teeth and trying to tug him out of the gate. "Whoa, girl. Calm down."

"I think she wants us to follow her," Boozer stated.

"Then let's follow."

Hope released Deacon's shirt when she saw he two men were following her. She led them down the dirt path and into a dense part of the woods. When the men heard a pained cry, they picked up the pace.

The canine ran as fast as she could with the men close behind her. She barked as they entered a small clearing and the cries crescendoed. Deacon glanced around as he saw bodies scattered across the clearing. "What the hell happened here?"

"Deek, over there," Boozer said as he spotted a figure on ground.

"Shit," Deacon muttered as he recognized the (h/c)-haired woman as another painful wail escaped her lips. He ran over to her with Hope by his side. The pooch licked her owner's face while the drifter saw the source of her pain. "Damn snares. What the hell are you doing this far from Marion Forks, (Y/n)?"

"Hunting," she whimpered in response. "It's easier hunting deer in the Cascade region than Belknap."

Boozer catches up and winced when he sees the woman's leg trapped in the teeth of a snare trap. "This isn't good." He examined the trap before meeting Deacon's gaze. "We'll have to work together. I'll pry the jaws open and you drag her out, alright?"

"Got it." Deacon walked behind (Y/n) and hooked his arms underneath hers. "Ready."

Boozer placed his hands between the metallic jaws of the snare and used all his strength to pry it open. When he managed to create enough space for (Y/n)'s foot, Deacon pulled her body back and freed her foot from the trap. She sighed in relief as the drifter kept ahold on her. "Holy shit..."

Deacon hauled (Y/n) to her feet, slinging one of her arms across his shoulder. "What's with all the dead bodies?"

"Fucking Marauders... I was in the middle of hunting when I stepped on the snare and got trapped. I managed to kill the bastards when they came out of the woodwork. Hope ran off to find some help, but I didn't expect her to bring you here."

Deacon wrapped his other arm around (Y/n)'s waist to prevent her from falling. "You're not far from O'Leary Mountain. We've a safehouse nearby."

"We've supplies. We can patch up your leg once we get back," Boozer added.

"Don't worry about me. I can patch up my leg when I get back to Marion Forks," the woman rebuttals.

"You'll get an infection before you can make it back. If you're worried about the amount of medical supply, don't. Last time I checked, you've been giving us food for the past six months," Deacon said.

"It's just eggs," (Y/n) huffs.

"It's still food," Boozer remarks. "Finally nice to meet the egg lady Deek keeps mentioning."

"Boozer..." Deacon growled in warning.

(Y/n) was more amused by the nickname than anything else and couldn't help but laugh. ""Egg Lady?" That's a first. You're not wrong, though."

Hope barked, seeking to agree with her owner. Boozer glanced at the border collie with a smile. "It's been a while since I've seen a healthy dog. Most of them are skin and bones."

"It's pretty easy to feed her. Not like people grabbed dog food off the shelves when the outbreak occurred. There's plenty of dog treats, toys, and food left."

"And you raise hens? That's the first I've heard about someone raising animals during the apocalypse," Boozer comments.

"The small farmhouse I live in was actually my parents'. I grew up raising hens, pigs, and cows. Morosely, only the hens survived the outbreak. The cows and pigs were easy pickings for the Freaks."

"You're not worried about Freakers breaking through the fence and eating them?" Deacon asked as he adjusted his grip on (Y/n) slightly.

"If it was an issue, those birds would already be dead. Hope's also been a huge help in keeping the Freaks away from the hens and the house. It's pretty quiet on the outskirts of Marion Forks."

The three continued chatting all the way back to the safehouse. The conversation distracted (Y/n) from the blood trickling down her leg and the immense waves of pain every few seconds.

With Deacon's help, she was able to make it to the top of the watchtower. He sat her down on his bed as Boozer and Hope entered the watchtower. The canine bounds over to (Y/n) and laid down by her feet. She raised her head, watching as Deacon collected antiseptic and gauze for her owner's tattered leg.

While Deacon tended to (Y/n)'s injury, Boozer made eye contact with Hope. He whistled for her and she leapt to her feet with a cheerful howl. She licked his hands and face as he patted her with a smile.

Boozer's interactions with Hope didn't go unnoticed by (Y/n). She was smiling from ear to ear at the sight. She grabbed Deacon's attention and told him to turn around to see his friend happily playing with the border collie. "Boozeman's always wanted a dog," the drifter said.

"Then I've got one hell of a surprise for you. Bring Boozer along the next time you come to visit. There's something I want to show you both."

"Now you've got my full attention, but I know you're not going to tell me what this "surprise" is."

"It wouldn't be a surprise if I told you. I also think Boozer will enjoy what I have in store. I'll even give you more eggs. I am the egg lady after all," (Y/n) snorted with laughter.

Deacon shook his head with a sigh. "It's one hell of a nickname."

"We better get going before night falls. We've got a long walk back to Marion Forks." (Y/n) stood up slowly, putting weight on her injured leg with a wince.

She didn't make it one step before Deacon stopped her. "Now hold on. You're seriously gonna try to walk all the way back to Marion Forks with that leg?"

"Well..."

Deacon grabbed her upper arms and forced her back into the bed. (Y/n) blinked owlishly as she found herself back on the bed with little to no effort. "You're out of your goddamn mind if you think I'm gonna even let you walk down the stairs with that leg. I'll give you a ride back to Marion Forks tomorrow, okay?"

"Uh, yeah," she responds. "But I only see two beds and I'm not—"

"Yes, you are," Deacon declared as he interrupted her. "I'll be fine."

"You're stubborn, I hope you know that," (Y/n) puffs out a sigh.

"Pretty sure you were the one who said we have to be in order to survive out there in the shit," he smirked triumphantly.

Another sigh passes through the woman's lips. "Yeah, yeah. Whatever."

"Nice place," Boozer complimented as they arrived at (Y/n)'s house the next morning. Hope had hitched a ride with the buff man by sitting in front of him. The woman was amazed and shocked to see the seating arrangement had worked, but she was grateful for their help nonetheless.

"Your surprise awaits inside, Boozer," (Y/n) smirked as Deacon helped her off his bike and into the house. All the windows were boarded up and the inside was still completely furnished.

Hope bounded to one of the rooms down the hall located beside the kitchen. (Y/n) told Deacon and Boozer to follow the canine, knowing exactly who she was going to see.

Inside the bedroom, Hope's tail wagged wildly as she stood in front of a basket by the nightstand. Deacon and Boozer were bewildered of why the dog was cheerful. (Y/n) smirked as she unwraps her arms from around Deacon's shoulders and sat on her bed. She called Hope and when the dog listened, the secret was revealed. Six puppies were piled up and sleeping inside the basket.

"Holy shit..." Boozer muttered. He kneeled beside the litter and admired them. "It's been a long time since I've seen puppies."

Deacon remained silent as he was in utter shock at the revelation with wide eyes. (Y/n) was smugly grinning as she saw the look on the drifter's face. "Told ya it was going to be one hell of a surprise."

"How old?" Boozer asked as he petted one of the puppies.

"Nine weeks," (Y/n) replied. She glanced at Boozer with a hopeful glint in her eyes. "I was hoping you would take one."

"You sure?"

She nodded. "Yeah. Pick one."

Boozer glanced between the six and picked out one. He carried the puppy in his arms as it woke up and tried to lick him. He smiled as he held him close to his chest. "Hey, buddy."

Deacon eyed (Y/n) with a mix of emotions. "Can I, uh, talk to you in private?"

The woman nodded and stood up. "Sure. Let's head to the backyard." When she took a step forward, Deacon went to support her but she denied his help. "I'll be fine, Deacon."

They left the room and out the back door in the kitchen. In the backyard, they stood and watched the hens pacing around their pen. Deacon cleared his throat, breaking the silence between them. "You didn't have to do any of this, but you did. Guess what I'm trying to say is thanks for all you've done."

"I've ten hens who're practically laying eggs almost every day. It would be a waste of perfectly good eggs if I didn't share them with someone. As for the pup, well, I won't be able to take care of all of them when they grow up. I should be thanking you for taking one off my hands."

"What about the other five?" Deacon questioned.

"I'm going to visit Copeland to see if he or anyone else in the camp wants one. When they grow up, they'll be a good addition to the camp. I don't trust Tucker enough to let her take a pick so the Hot Springs is off the list."

"Couldn't agree more," Deacon said.

"I might also visit Lost Lake to see if Rikki or Mike are interested."

"You're not doing anything until that legs healed."

(Y/n) crossed her arms with a grin. "Knew you were gonna say that. You're the embodiment of chivalry. I hope you know that, Deek."

"I'm not chivalrous," he scoffed.

"Keep telling yourself that. Denial won't change the facts."

Suddenly, Deacon's radio blipped and he received a transmission from Tucker. The old woman has a job and wants him to swing by the Hot Springs. The drifter groaned as he told her he'd be there shortly. He rolled his eyes in vexation as he ended the call with Ada. He looked at (Y/n), seeing the smirk on her face. "I know that damn smirk." He pointed at her and his voice was lower than usual. "You are staying here."

She raised her hand and vowed. "I promise to not follow you."

"I'll be back soon. Don't push yourself too hard, alright?"

The woman raised her right hand higher. "I promise I won't push myself. You better get goin' before the old lady pops a gasket." She walked over to Deacon and placed her hand on his cheek while pressing a small kiss on the other. "Stay safe out there."

Deacon was caught off guard by the kiss, but he didn't let his true feelings come to the surface just yet. "I will." He turned around to leave and saw a smirking Boozer standing in the doorway with the puppy still in his arms. "Don't you fucking start."

Boozer continued to smirk. "I didn't say anything."

Mystic Messenger Opinions

 So, I’m doing this under the cut just in case of spoilers (that I know of), and I don’t want anybody else spoiled. Anyway, I haven’t completed this awesome game, yet (and probably won’t because of reasons), but I just wanted to share my opinions on the characters.

 One thing, first. While I haven’t completed the entire game, I did purposely spoil myself on some stuff, so I do know a thing or two about the characters just from reading off of reddit and the MM wiki. Also, I’m going for the good endings, first, in the routes I’m doing. Just putting that out there.

 Ok! I’m gonna list the characters off as my most favorite to my least favorite...so let’s get to the opinions of mine!

Jumin: Ok, I can’t help it. He may be a bit of a jerk, sometimes, but I love him...and yes, he’s hot xD! I love how he improves on letting others in and getting used to his emotions...and that he moves on from his cat! Don’t get me wrong, I like cats, but...geez, Jumin! He actually gives off bad-boy vibes to me. I dunno why xD. But, he does.

 Admittedly, during his route, when he got a little possessive, it did weird me out, a bit. But thank the Lord, it didn’t last too terribly long. After that, I just adored him and how he tried, so hard, to be sweet and understanding. I was aiming for his normal ending, at first...but then, I screwed up, and got his good ending, instead xD. Which is fine. His good ending was lovely. Although, I’ve seen and read about the normal ending for him, and I gotta say, I kinda like that one more than the good ending. If you ask me, I feel like the two titles should be switched. But that’s my opinion.

V: I’m playing V’s route, right now...but even more I started playing it, I read a bunch about him and what his deal is, and I still love him just as much as Jumin. Now, I admit, he’s frustrating me by keeping everything from everyone. But it’s only frustrating me, a little bit. I just don’t get why it’s necessary for him to have kept everything from all his friends about Rika. And yes, I do think he had a toxic relationship with Rika (but that’s why I’m playing his route, I am trying to save him from that), something that could have been avoided by him. But for some reason, he chose not to, and I just don’t get that. But, other than those things, I’ve always felt really bad for him, and I totally believe that he deserved so, so much better.

 Honestly, the whole thing’s 50/50 with me about him. Probably because I have never been in any sort of toxic relationship with anybody, and I’ve never met anybody who has gone through that, so I don’t really fully understand what it’s like...but I can imagine it, and if I ever do meet someone who struggles with that, I would do my best to help them out with it. Nobody should be in any sort of toxic relationship.

 But, I still love and adore V, either way. If he was my child, I’d protect him.

Seven/Saeyoung: After playing this guy’s route, I have to put him as my 3rd favorite character. He has been through so much sh*t in his life, and he’s tried so hard to hide it all by being happy and random. Now, he’s not exactly my type, romantically...however, he is definitely the younger brother type in my eyes. Like V, I just wanna protect him, and let him live a happy life without any torment from his childhood.

 Mind you, I have not played the secret endings. The only reason is because I just didn’t have enough hourglasses to pay for every episode. I bought Another Story, and bought enough hourglasses for that. However, that is most likely going to be the only time I buy so many hourglasses (I’m trying to save my money for real life, here ^^;...also, I never really like buying in-game things, anyway). So now, I’m just trying to save up on hourglasses throughout the game so that I can get every episode of secret ending. At this point, though, since I purposely spoiled myself...I kinda know a bit of what happens, already. I didn’t read too much into it, though. I only spoil myself to a certain point, and that’s it.

 There were times when Seven’s randomness was a little too weird for my taste...but I can overlook that because, despite all the secrets, he’s a sweet boy, and I adore him ^^.

Ray/Unknown/Saeran: Basically, my opinion on him is the same as my opinion on his brother, Seven/Saeyoung. I hate that he was used and lied to throughout most of his life. And, I can tell that he’s sensitive, which is totally understandable, considering his backstory. I purposely didn’t read a lot about him, only because I was planning on doing his route right after V’s. All I really know about him is from what I’ve seen/read in Seven’s route.... I do feel really bad for him, though...nobody should ever have to go through anything of what he and Seven went through. It’s horrible.... Other than this, I don’t really have that much of an opinion on him. He’s a very interesting character, and definitely deserves better. At this point, though, I’m just gonna leave it at that. Sorry!

Jaehee: Honestly, my opinion on her is small, compared to the others. I will say that she is a great character, and I do respect how hard-working and smart she is. If anything, I’d see her more as a good friend...but since I don’t swing that way, I don’t like her, romantically (please, do not hate me on that. I just don’t swing that way). But she is a great character, and I really like her. Just not in a romantic way. I also think she deserves her coffee dream. Also, because I don’t swing that way, I am not interested in playing her route, so I won’t be doing that.

Rika: Ok.... After reading a bunch of reddits and aminos and whatnot, and from what I’ve seen/read in the game.... I have mixed feelings about her character. And like Jaehee, my opinions on Rika are not very big. Honestly, for the life of me, I can never tell if her good intentions and everything were actually good...or, if it was all a lie and she gave in to her dark side a long time ago. She may have thrown parties for fundraisers to help those in need and all that good stuff...but! But! She also lied to people (her own friends and adopted cousin, especially), nearly completely blinded somebody (whether that was actually accidental or on purpose, I don’t know yet), and led a frickin’ cult! She doesn’t seem like the type of person who would do such things, but she did. And I’m sorry, but irl, that is not something that I (or anybody, for that matter) can condone. She needed serious help, and she should have gotten that a long time ago. 

 If anything, Rika honestly kinda confuses me. Only because I can’t tell if some of her intentions were actually good, or if everything was a lie and she had given in to her dark side, years ago. She’s an interesting character, for sure...just not somebody I would trust. Also, like Jaehee, I am not interested enough in doing Rika’s route, so I won’t. I may have questions, but they’re not strong enough to be interested in seeing her backstory. If I am curious enough, I can always read the MM wiki.

Zen: Ok, at first, I thought he was really cool and sweet and like the big-brother type, and at first, I did want to eventually play his route. However, unfortunately, after playing Jumin’s, Seven’s, and V’s routes, I can hardly stand all the narcissism. There’s only so much of it that I don’t mind. Zen...makes it too much. On top of that, he is way over-protective of MC. All men are wolves? Seriously...? And is he not a man? I’m sorry, but that doesn’t fly with me. I’ve never played his route, but I do know that he’s...self-conscious? I think that’s the word.... However, that does not excuse the constant, constant, narcissism in just about everything. I’ve also become very annoyed with how much he hates Jumin. It’s not so bad in V’s route, so far...but it was definitely bad in both Jumin’s and Seven’s routes. He has crossed the line quite a few times in them. It makes me feel really bad for Jumin. Sure, the guy was born rich and doesn’t really know how to feel much (emotion-wise)...but come on! Seriously? Belittling the guy every chance you get, and going too far, sometimes? Just...no. It’s a big no in my book. And I’m not saying that in Jumin’s defense. 

 It’s mostly the constant narcissism that is making me dislike Zen. I even hate that, many times, when chatting with him over call or text or in the chatroom, MC’s options are pretty much just feeding his narcissism.... Definitely not my type of guy :/. The more routes I play, the more disappointed in him that I honestly feel. It’s gotten to the point where I don’t even know if I should bother playing his route or not...in the end, probably not. But as much as I dislike him, I just can’t ignore his calls or messages. Because I’m just that nice.

Yoosung: Ooh, this boy....! First off, just like Zen, I used to like Yoosung. I used to think that he was pretty ok for a game-addict college student. I have a younger brother who’s addicted to his games, so I know the feels. I used to also think he was sweet, like Zen.

 However! After playing the second half of Seven’s route, and now playing V’s route...I can no longer stand Yoosung. I’m sorry, people, but he’s just pissing me off, now. He is just so.... Like, ok, I get it. He’s depressed and still mourning (”mourning” now that I’ve read some things) over Rika. I know how that feels. I lost my grandmother, just last year, and she was nowhere near ready to pass away. She was elderly, but she was physically getting better. As in, she no longer needed her cane to walk around. She was taking care of herself, she was doing fine! But then, a horrible fall sent her to the hospital for weeks and weeks, and it eventually killed her (the fall, not the hospital she was in). She was like a second mother to me...and my family lost her way too soon. So I know how Yoosung feels when it comes to losing somebody close to you.

 But what is pissing me off is how incredibly childish he is! Especially in V’s route! Oh my gosh, I have never met a character who was this whiny and childish, before! And he becomes spoiled, too, apparently (reddits, I have read). I’m sorry...I get that this a somewhat different timeline or whatever from the routes that I’ve been playing...but what the hell, Yoosung! You were not this bad in Jumin’s and Seven’s routes! 

 Also, the whole blaming V for everything thing? Ok, sure, V has done some things that frustrate me, too...but why all the hate? I don’t get it! Not everything is even V’s fault! And apparently, even when everybody reveals the truth to Yoosung about Rika, he doesn’t believe any of it or says that “Rika must have had a good reason”?! What?!

 Sorry, sorry.... His character in V’s route is just the worst that I’ve seen in this game...and in V’s route in particular, and it’s made me strongly dislike him. He greatly annoys me, now, just as much as Zen. Imo, he needs professional help...like some of the other characters were suggesting, and he refused it. He obviously needs all the professional help he can get.... I feel a bit sorry for him. But not enough for me to want to play his route. 

Please, keep in mind that is all just my opinion on the characters. Kudos to anybody who love Yoosung and Zen. I personally just don’t. Especially after what I’ve seen and read about them. But I won’t judge you or anything if you guys like them. Sorry about my rants! I just needed to get that out of me about Zen and Yoosung. I’m not blaming Cheritz or anything, so don’t worry about that. I’m just really annoyed at those two particular characters, and if I know anything about my taste in men, it’s not them being super childish or narcissistic. Those two qualities are a big turn-off for me, and always have been.

 But anyway, those are my opinions on the characters. I love the game! And I’m rather glad I downloaded it and that I’m ruining my sleep over it xD. Actually no, I try to get at least some sleep in the middle of the night before returning for the midnight and 2AM chatrooms ^^;. If I had to give this game a rating, I think it would be 8/10. Sound fair? I think so.

Well, that went quickly...

What day is it? I’m starting to lose track of how long I’ve been here...

Well, it’s been a week since my last post, and it seems that a lot must have happened, but honestly I feel like I’ve just been cranking through a bunch of comic books.

But I do know that Friday and Saturday involved a good deal excitement, so I guess we had might as well pick up pretty much where we left off!

Last Friday was Orientation for ICB, which meant getting all of the 35-40 instructors, 10 staff members, and the 6-8 people in charge of this program together in a room to introduce us to...basically what we’d been doing all that week. Also, aside from a couple study-abroad-undergrads and my officemate and me, everyone there had probably already heard the spiel.

It was scheduled from 5p-6p with a buffett afterwards, but a bunch of the Communications people from my floor were going out to eat (again?) afterwards, so I made plans with NR. She wanted to try this Mexican restaurant in what I’ll describe as the “international district” of Beijing. Most everything around us when we got there looked like it belonged in literally every metropolitan area in the world. Every major brand you can imagine had a store. Multiple. Too many...

But the Mexican restaurant we visited is owned and managed by a Mexican expat, apparently. He even stopped by our table to ask how the food was, and let me tell you: that quesadilla was the BOMB!!! And the margarita was pretty good (not as good as MHO’C’s, though!). By the time we finished up dinner, it was kind of late, so we wondered around the shopping center, found a bookstore. You know: the usual.

Fun fact: when a store or restaurant wants to indicate to their patrons that they are getting ready to close, they play smooth jazz and turn the lights down. Like for real. Had their not been windows open to the pavilion outside with it’s hundreds of light displays, I would have been seriously concerned when the lights in the place just went out and Kenny G popped up on the speakers.

We entertained the idea of finding the cinema nearby to see Alita Battle Angel, but during the 15 minutes that we spent wondering around in search of the complex, it seemed to elude us. Plus it was getting close to that time when the subway shuts down, and I wasn’t exactly hankering for a taxi ride this early in my stay....if at all.

The next morning, I got up early to meet back up with NR at the National Museum near the Forbidden City. Now, for the most part, the stairs I get don’t bother me. But I will say, if you’re going to stair at the pasty white guy with a hard-to-describe-its-color-accurately-beard, maybe don’t do it when you’re going 15 mph on a bike, facing in the wrong direction! *sigh.....Some people’s kids...

But what really bothered me, especially at the time, was the father-of-three who straight-up filmed me on his phone from 5 feet away for a solid 6 minutes, three hallways, and two escalators! I get it, I’m funny looking. But I really think I a picture would have done just fine...

One of the things that bothered me the most about that experience was that (a) he had a shit-eating grin plastered on his face, (b) his daughters seemed rather embarrassed, (c) he filmed me with the screen aimed at me so I could watch myself on his phone, (d) there was text on the screen, and (e) it went on for a solid 6 minutes.

In hindsight, I was wearing sunglasses and a hat, in a subway system, in the morning, heading to the center of Beijing. Maybe he thought I was a celebrity? I had spoken to a Communications graduate student the other day who happens to be black, and he told me the story of how a citizen here pull out their phone with a picture of Samuel L. Jackson on it, and gestured to him as it to ask if it were him...even though SLJ is for sure at 70 years old and this kid is no more than 35. And he looks 25. #smh

Anyway, after dealing with whatever the hell that was, I got to visit the museum! They, for whatever reason, were not allowing people to bring their charging blocks into the museum (external battery that you can use to charge your cell phone and other devices on-the-go), but more surprising to me was just how many people carried one with them! At least, it was surprising until I took a moment to think about it. As I’ve mentioned before, basically every payment made in Beijing is through WeChat, which needs internet access, so I guess it shouldn’t be too surprising. You also really can’t navigate through the city with some sort of Maps app; there are just too many bus routes, train routes, terminals and stops to keep logged in your head.

As far as the museum itself goes, the gifts to China from foreign governments exhibit and the Ancient China exhibit themselves took most of the day. Also, no surprise: the gift that took up the most floor space was given by a U.S. President. I also got a refresher in 8th Grade Social Studies. Too many small countries to remember all of them, and that space made me feel somewhat moronic.

The Ancient China exhibit was exceptional, though. They broke up the last, oh...750,000 years of human-ish life in China into 8-10 separate eras, the first few cataloguing the life and evolution of Homo erectus pekinensis into Homo sapien, while the latter eras were segregated dynastically. I’ve never seen the progression of human evolution laid out in such detail! The rock tools became better rock tools, then pottery and paper, stamps, buildings and so much more! There were even ceremonial helmets that would put the Juggernaut to shame!

It was strange, though, to have all of this knowledge just beyond my fingertips both literally and figuratively. The literal sense isn’t too shocking, as I’ve been to a museum before and know not to touch the pieces, but to have placards written in a language that would take years to learn was frustrating. Fortunately, NR has a never-ending supply of patience, and she translated much of the text. She even quizzed me on several of the characters. I’ve worked out how to write “rock” for sure.

After the museum, we wondered over to a nearby mall that, honestly, puts the Mall of America to shame. No joke. This place was huge! It just kept going and going and going! There was a particular alley that has all of the “exotic foods” that you might see on The Amazing Race, which I haven’t tried yet but intend to, but the rest is mostly-outdoor shopping center. Our reason for being there was to find food (we had been in the museum for a bit over 7 hours), and then sit our fine asses down in a movie theater to watch Alita.

We found a restaurant that served food traditionally found where NR grew up. It was exceptional. And the beer just made it better. :P

The movie experience was something else entirely. I’ve gotten used to watching television and movies with subtitles so that, when people decide to talk to me, I can follow along with both bits. Or if people are just talking near me while I’m watching television, I don’t have to rewind the show. That helped a lot; the movie was still spoken in English, but there were Chinese subtitles. I recognized the Chinese character for “1″ frequently enough, but that was about it.

The movie itself was way more than I expected. I shouldn’t be surprised, given that one of the primary characters is played by Christoph Waltz. If you haven’t seen it yet, you should definitely consider it.

Also, additional fun fact: I’m thinking that most (if not all) showings of major motion pictures here are in 3D. *shrug* Side note: we’re going to see Captain Marvel tomorrow and I’M SO FREAKIN’ EXCITED!!!!

After the movie, we wandered back to the subway station and parted ways mid-subway-ride to head home. The next day I spent playing Kingdom Hearts 3 and sipping some beer in the 3rd Floor Lounge. All day. It was blissful.

This workweek has consisted of four main things: teaching responsibilities, a bit of dissertation work, trying out another one of the cafeterias on campus, and reading comic books. Oh, and beer. But that kind of goes without saying, doesn’t it? There’s a convenience store on the other side of the building in front of the Guest House that has cans of beer. You can buy them individual for 3 yuan, or roughly 45 cents. I won’t lie to you: I bought 12 of them and it didn’t cost me more than 6 bucks. And it’s really not bad, and even more convenient than the liquor store I lived by in Denver.

Anyway, as I said, I’m going to see Captain Marvel tomorrow, then to “W-Town” (originally Watertown...so glad they shortened it...) in northern Beijing, which sits at the base of part of the Great Wall. More than 20 people from ICB will be heading up to their on Saturday, so I imagine one of them will take pictures. Probably ML or S. So you’ll have those to look forward to since you know I won’t be taking any!

Oh!!! I almost forgot the biggest thing that happened this week! Actually, it might be the biggest news of my entire stay!!!

I did laundry.

And I washed my slippers. I’m not convinced that they’ve stopped smelling, but I’m holding out hope that I’ve finally figured out how to resolve an issue that I know humanity has been seriously struggling with for decades. I’m on the verge of a breakthrough, people, I swear!

Anyway, time to finish this beer, read a bit more of Scott Lynch’s Republic of Thieves (WE FINALLY FIND OUT ABOUT SABETHA!!!!), and head to bed. Big couple of days ahead...

Caught her at work, and we got to chat for a good long while. It really put a nice cap on my evening, and it seemed it gave her a good start to her day. A Look at Galaxy Angel II/3rd Manga Vol. 5

DISCLAIMER 1: I do not know Japanese at all so a lot of these “summaries” will be based on info I’ve gathered from the translated volumes that were officially released; as well as the Galaxy Angel fan wikia. I don’t claim any sort of plot accuracy in these posts, I merely wanted to give a brief run-down (as best as I can) of what happens in these volumes.

DISCLAIMER 2: I do not want to scan these volumes for fear of damaging the binding, so I’ve only taken photos. I’m not a professional photographer and don’t have a nice fancy camera so these photos are not so great. Due to my work schedule and life stuff that I need to take care of, I don’t have the time to touch these up beyond resizing and cropping them. Sorry.

~Chapter 21~

Volume 5 opens immediately with yet another video transmission sent out by Forte.

In the video transmission, Forte seems to make a reference to a network of satellites called “crust breaker.” They have enough power to completely destroy whole planets; and was the weapon used to take the planet Seldor hostage.

Nano Nano notices something strange about these video transmissions. If the manga is following the game’s storyline on this particular plot point, Nano realizes that Forte has been changing her words in every transmission. Takuto seems to pick up on this too.

The manga then suddenly switches scenes and the entire Luxiole crew is apparently given a short break to visit some hot springs located within the Luxiole. (Yeah, IDEK)

Tequila decides to make things more interesting and uses her magic to cover the entire area in a magical mist that (I assume) allows the people at the hot springs to see the person or thing they desire most. So Apricot and Kazuya end up seeing each other.

Takuto, predictably, gets to see Milfeulle. I have no idea if these are just illusions, or if Tequila was somehow magically able to teleport people temporarily to this place. Chalk it up to *magic* or something.

(anyway, Takuto’s and Milfeulle’s little reunion scene is the cutest thing and they are my OTP so I am biased)

So Lilly gets to meet with Forte (her mentor), Nano gets to meet Vanilla (who she considers a mom), Anise just gets a whole load of gold and treasure, and Tequila/Kahlua...

Get to meet each other.

The magic eventually fades, but everyone is refreshed afterwards and ready for the battle ahead.

~Chapter 22~

We get a brief flashback at the beginning of this chapter, to a time four years in the past. Milfeulle seems to be telling Apricot about the Absolute and the Central Globe.

There is... a lot of text here so I am not 100% sure about what’s happening. But I think Milfeulle is telling Apricot about how the Absolute and Gates to other galaxies work. Milfeulle so far is the only “Gatekeeper” that has been found, which means she’ll have to reside inside the Central Globe (the structure within the Absolute) for an unspecified amount of time in order to keep the Gate between Eden and Neue open.

Apricot is saddened by this, but Milfeulle accepts her fate with a smile.

Back in the present, the Luxiole has neared the planet Seldor. Kazuya and the other Angels set out in their ships and brace themselves in the battle against Forte’s fleet.

Suddenly, a transmission from Forte herself!

She and Takuto converse for a bit, and then it begins:

A full-on battle of might and wits between Takuto and Forte.

Magiic’s forces are also there to help out in the battle. They are led by Ranpha.

I didn’t explain this very well before (as it was already detailed in the officially translated volume 3), but Forte is only playing the villain here because she has her hands tied (figuratively) by some evil higher-up. This higher-up is threatening both her life and the entire existence of planet Seldor, forcing Forte to lead a coup as successfully as possible (under the higher-up’s orders). Forte’s only aiming for such high success because she doesn’t want there to be any possibility of an uprising or rebellion, which would increase casualties.

So anyway, there’s a big space battle against Forte’s own ships, and the Angel-tai are unusually absent from the fighting. But suddenly, they reappear to take out the crust breaker satellites encircling planet Seldor. Forte’s transmissions from before held hidden hints about the locations of these satellites. While Magiic’s fleet was holding off Forte’s forces, the Angel-tai members were working in the background to get close enough to take out the crust breakers.

One of the subordinates of the villain (behind this entire ploy) threatens Forte with a gun once he realizes that Forte was planning for these series of events to happen from the start.

but she’s just like “whatever”

Forte, however, appears to have something else up her sleeve (including a possible escape route).

Anyway, I love Forte, she’s a BAMF

~Chapter 23~

With the crust breakers destroyed, and Forte no longer playing along with his “game,” the main villain reveals his ship and himself to the Luxiole crew.

((I consult the GA fanwikia quite a bit for these next few sections))

Main villain dude is named Verel and he is an alien (he has some sort of wings on his back).

He shows the Luxiole crew a video transmission of himself and Milfeulle, who has apparently been put to sleep. Verel then embarks on a long, villainous monologue where he explains how he’s the last of his kind; and his kind were the original administrators of the Central Core; thus the Central Core and the Absolute belong to him. His desire to stage a coup on all of Neue was really just a part of his bigger plan to acquire the Absolute and become it’s sole ruler.

Takuto calmly asks about Milfeulle and Verel reassures everyone that Milfeulle is still alive and healthy (just asleep for the time being). He then rips a piece of her clothing I guess as a taunt or a threat.

Takuto gets MAD.

Verel then promptly flees, but not without causing some more ship carnage on his way out.

In the meantime, Forte has managed to escape her flagship by using a smaller vessel and is picked up by the Luxiole. There’s a happy reunion with every member of the Angel-tai. (...Except Anise, who has never officially met Forte until now.)

Takuto also personally arrives at the hangar to greet Forte, and there’s a really cute reunion scene.

Afterwards, Takuto calls a big meeting with the Angel-tai, so that he can explain some things.

Before the next big (and potentially final) battle, Takuto allows everyone to take a vacation on a nearby resort planet to rest up. And beach shenanigans ensue.

~Chapter 24~

These next few chapters basically play out like some sort of extended Beach Episode that shows up in a lot of anime, and I am pretty disappointed that this entire segment takes up so much of volume 5 (nearly half the book). These “beach chapters” do attempt to develop the main cast somewhat... but I can’t help but feel that it’s mostly an excuse to have the main girls be in bikinis and for there to be a lot of fanservicey moments.

Anyway...

Chapter 24 opens up with Apricot being suddenly afraid of Kazuya--most likely due to her developing romantic feelings towards him, as well as his swimwear making it more obvious that he’s male.

Some really dumb stuff happens that I don’t want to detail here, but it ends with Kazuya being punched into the sky by Apricot. We then get to see Forte and Ranpha having a convo about... something. (Probably catching up on things since they’ve been separated due to their work)

The other Angel-tai members eventually find out that Apricot’s suddenly real scared of Kazuya. Tequila tries to “help” again using her magic... to turn everyone into mermaids. Except Kazuya, who gets turned into some kind of pufferfish instead.

While in pufferfish form, Kazuya no longer scares Apricot and she’s really happy about this.

BUT SUDDENLY sharks appear and start chasing/attacking the Angel-tai. Apricot and Kazuya get separated from everyone else.

While Apricot and Kazuya are lost at sea (still in their mermaid and fish forms), they’re discovered by a pod of dolphins and are led to some underwater ruins. Unfortunately, the ruins lie on top of a giant whale, which promptly swallows Apricot and Kazuya.

Apricot and (a human) Kazuya reawaken to find themselves on a little island inside of the whale’s stomach. And Tequila is also there... somehow.

The trio quickly find a way to escape, but Tequila notices that Apricot is still utterly afraid of Kazuya and can’t even bear to touch him. So Tequila gets the bright idea to turn Kazuya into a girl (temporarily).

Apricot takes this turn of events... uh. Badly.

Apricot and the now female Kazuya reunite with the rest of the Angel-tai... and they all marvel over/envy Kazuya’s new body.

I have no idea what happens in the next few pages, but Apricot seems to sort of get over her fear of (male) Kazuya by realizing that... there are other men way manlier than Kazuya is, and they scare her far more than Kazuya (with his boyish looks) does.

Uh. Yeah. *shoulder shrug*

~Chapter 26~

We then have a scene change to a later point in time, where Kazuya and Lily are having a secret training session.

All the other Angels are trying the enjoy the rest of their vacation in a relaxed manner.

(I mainly just took this photo because I love Tequila’s and Anise’s outfits and hairstyles.)

No one knows exactly what this “training session” entails. Apricot tries to play it cool and claims that she’s not bothered by it, but she seems spacier than usual...

The Angel-tai’s vacation finally ends. The Luxiole begins heading for the Gate to the Absolute. Some of Verel’s forces are stationed near this area.

Before another big battle, it’s revealed that Kazuya still has dreams about Mimoza. The two have become linked in some way--possibly through Kazuya’s ship, the Braveheart.

The battle against Verel’s fleet begins, and the Angel-tai fly out in their respective ships.

Lily asks Kazuya to merge the Braveheart with her Emblem Frame, the Eagle Gazer. Unexpectedly, Lily then completely blindfolds herself, to the shock of her teammates. She reveals that the “training” she underwent with Kazuya was basically to increase their trust in each other. By smashing watermelons (whilst blindfolded) with a stick, with only Kazuya to guide her; Lily and Kazuya are now able to work in perfect sync.

Or something like that.

Anyway this “training montage” panel is hilarious.

Lily’s completely insane strategy somehow works, and Lily and Kazuya quickly decimate Verel’s forces; clearing a path to the Gate.

Unfortunately, Kazuya and co. can’t celebrate yet; as more of Verel’s forces suddenly emerge from the Gate itself. Verel also apparently seals off the Gate itself, closing the entrance to the Absolute, where the Central Core and Milfeulle reside...
