Why is KOSA a bad bill? KOSA uses two methods to “protect” kids, and both of them are awful. First, KOSA would incentivize social media platforms to erase content that could be deemed “inappropriate” for minors. The problem is: there is no consensus on what is inappropriate for minors. As LGBTQ and reproductive rights groups have said for months, the fundamental problem with KOSA is that its “duty of care” covers content specific aspects of content recommendation systems, and the new changes fail to address that. In fact, personalized recommendation systems are explicitly listed under the definition of a design feature covered by the duty of care in the new version. This means that a future Federal Trade Commission (FTC) could still use KOSA to pressure platforms into automated filtering of important, but controversial topics like LGBTQ issues and abortion, by claiming that algorithmically recommending such content “causes” mental health outcomes that are covered by the duty of care like anxiety and depression. Bans on inclusive books, abortion, and gender affirming healthcare have been passed on exactly that kind of rhetoric in many states recently. And we know that already existing content filtering systems impact content from marginalized creators exponentially more, resulting in discrimination and censorship. It’s also important to remember that algorithmic recommendation includes, for example, showing a user a post from a friend that they follow, since most platforms do not show all users all posts, but curate them in some way. Why it's bad:

The way it's written (even after being changed, which the website also goes over), it is still possible for this law to be used to restrict things like queer content, discussion of reproductive rights and resources, and sexual education.

It will restrict youth's ability to use the Internet independently, essentially cutting off life support to many vulnerable people who rely on the Internet to learn that they are queer, being abused, disabled, etc.

Better alternatives:

Stop relying on ageist ideas of purity and innocence. When we focus on protecting the "purity" of youth, we dehumanize them and it becomes more about soothing adult anxieties than actually improving the lives of children.

Making sure content (sexual, violent, etc.) is marked/tagged and made avoidable for anyone who doesn't want to engage with it.

Teach children why certain things may be upsetting and how best to avoid those things.

Teach children how to recognize grooming and abuse and empower them to stop it themselves.

Teach children how to recognize fear, discomfort, trauma, and how to cope with those experiences.

The Internet makes a great boogeyman. But the idea that it is uniquely corrupting the Pure Innocent Youth relies on the idea that all children are middle-class suburban White kids from otherwise happy homes. What about the children who see police brutality on their front lawns, against their family members? How are we protecting them from being traumatized? Or children who are seeing and experiencing physical and sexual violence in their own homes, by the parents who prevent them from realizing what's happening by restricting their Internet usage? How does strengthening parent's rights stop those kids from being groomed? Or the kids who grow up in evangelical Christian homes and are given graphic descriptions of the horrors of the Apocalypse and told if they ever question their parents, they'll be left behind?

Children live in the same world we do. There are children who are already intimately aware of violence and "adult" topics because of their lived experiences. Actually protecting children means being concerned about THEIR human rights, it means empowering them to save themselves, it means giving them the tools to understand their own feelings and traumas. KOSA is just another in a long line of attempts to "save the children!" by dehumanizing them and giving more power to the people most likely to abuse them. We need to stop trying to protect children's "innocence" and appreciate that children are already growing, changing people, learning to deal with discomfort and pain and the weight of the world the same as everyone else. What people often think keeps kids safe really just keeps them ignorant and quiet.

In what ways do you feel the plight of trans people is similar to the suffering of cis women under the patriarchy? How is it different?

Both trans people and cis women (and a lot of cis men, really) suffer from being forced into a box. You have to be this way, and you do not get any say. If you aren't, you're either broken and shouldnt have agency (for your own good), or a threat. People will dish out violence and try to remove your rights to force you into that box, and punish you for stepping outside of it. I think these issues are heavily linked, and while the specifics of what each demographic faces is different (nevermind intersections), i believe the overall problem is the same; what society wants you to be, and how they want you to be it.

I think it's similar in that trans people are discriminated against and we cis women are also discriminated against, like, on a systemic level. The specifics are different, though.

Do you feel that you've ever contributed to transphobia in society?

Yeah. Especially when i was younger, and haven't examined any of it yet. Growing up in a transphobic society inevitably left me with some stuff to work out, and I've done my best to do so, and i will continue to. That's the important part, i think.

Not that I know of, and I would feel really bad if I thought I had accidentally.

Do you believe trans women or trans men have “male privilege”? 

No, that's a really loaded term. Individual trans people may get some advantages in certain settings depending on how they're perceived, but I don't think any of them can really be considered to get any gendered form of privilege, considering their gender is directly what makes them marginalized. Hiding your identity in order to not be mistreated isn't a privilege, it's a result of being oppressed.

I don't think so. This isn't an issue where I feel comfortable speaking as I said. Not that I know of, though.

Do you think things have gotten better or worse for trans people in the last ten years?

Besides the... recent pushback, as a whole, yes.

I think it's a mixture of both, but that's just my outside perspective.

No matter the AU, I doubt that Kanako would initially look too favorably on Clover. Kanako is a young child. She was raised by a father who believed that humans are an enemy incapable of decency and a mother who, despite not being as hateful towards humans, still exhibits a distrust/dislike towards them. Children generally look to their parents as role models when they're forming their own opinions of the world. (And we do see in the game that Kanako REALLY looks up to her parents, especially her dad.) Why is Daddy suddenly wrong for having wanted to protect us, I thought humans were all bad? And so on.

I think Ceroba would have to have several long and difficult talks with her about what happened after Kanako Fell Down and why Clover is important to her and how Chujin was wrong about humans. Therapy, too, is also a necessity. I think that Kanako would learn over time and come to accept Clover as her sibling. But I can't see this happening instantly. There'd have to be a lot of work and compromises and traumas to sort out first.

Because the show is never clear if Mono are actually dangerous or if it's all just discriminatory stereotypes, and both options give widely different flavors to the story. And I'd be fine with both, I just need the show to pick a lane.

I think I'd go with the "Mono are dangerous but this one still mine and you will not take him away from me" route because the co-dependency was fun in this show (and because I've read a fic that did a really good job of it) and I like me a well-written toxic but mutual co-dependent relationship. Also gives space for a more nuanced take on discrimination than just the usual "they're not dangerous it's all just stereotypes".

Gonna go with Rametta<3 She struggles making friends because shes learned from a young age that her peers are also her competition. Like her older bother, when she was at school she was seen as a weak boy and so had to go above and beyond to prove her worth and skill, and her ability to be a threat. Luckily for her, Muros protection meant she managed to successfully prove herself- unlike Conficcare. Her closest friend [other than Cecio who is practically a sibling to her] is Amelia, but for most of school they were rivals, both competing to be the leader of their year, though unlike Celias year, they had a lot of respect for each other and the fight for power was not as deadly- Muro and Tesoro both keeping a close eye on the power struggles of the kids after the disaster of their year.

That is to say shes pretty bad at making friends. She had a 'weakness' that she had to make up for meaning she was very hostile to others, and was set apart as Muros protege and Conficcares younger sibling, meaning a lot of people trying to befriend her had ulterior motives, not to mention many kidnapping attempts to use her against her family- including the one that ended with Muro dead in her place.

Shes often a cold and distant bitch but there's a reason she likes keeping people at arms length, even after she gets her stand and later takes over from Muro. in a way shes so used to the tight knit and very dependent family Conficcare brought her into, that she rellied on them as both her friends and family.

Elena is fairly similar to Celia in that she wants honesty in a friendship, especially when shes an adult. She exists in the cut throat world of art, so she has to really trust people if shes going to let her walls down. She also tends to group with the other outsiders, finding solidarity in their battle against the nepotism and favors for friends that run rampant. she will never be truly honest about her childhood and teens, but being around people who also understand poverty and discrimination makes her feel less isolated and alone.

4, Is your OC able to build close friendships with people very different from themselves? Perhaps in terms of culture, age or personality?

Tesoro is very good at bridging gaps between himself and others. Notably he [and Elena] showed interest in popular culture and critical analysis of it, especially things such as queer & feminist readings at school, and this lead both to having excellent grasp on the english language, allowing him to get to know more people and interact with more writing. He loves doing so, especially people with different life experiences, partially to expand his knowledge so he can manipulate more people but also because he loves learning of lives other than his own, and what possibilities exist out there.

My problem with the post is that it's not just a false equivalency. It's an incomplete thought. OPs say "robot racism" is stupid because of the same reason vampire racism is stupid, and vampire racism is stupid because vampires eat people. Which, yeah, that is why vampire racism stories are stupid. But that has fuck all to do with robots.

Shit like True Blood builds not just on modern vampire fiction but on the much older storytelling traditions works like Dracula were building on. Generally speaking, vampires are not vampires because of anything humans ever did. Humanity did not inflict their life state on them, and have very good reasons to be afraid of them because they are predators and humans are their prey. There are absolutely ways to engage with that tension while still creating complicated and even sympathetic vampire characters, and plenty of people have. Lazy writers will try and shoehorn a message about racism in because they're lazy, and it shows. Say what you will about Twlight, but Stephanie Meyer's world manages to have just enough internal logic that it lands on "being a vampire is awesome as long as you control those urges," and well... she is Mormon. At least it's a unique take.

Robot fiction is building on a much older tradition too, and the central tension in any Golem story is that man made them, and thus are responsible for how they turned out. The Terminator series and The Matrix franchise are both pretty straightforward evil robot stories, and yet both are very clear about that fact and explore that tension with their robots/A.I characters. I haven't seen Ex Machina or Companion, but I don't think they have any forced racism metaphors, and I know Terminator, The Matrix, and 2001* don't unless you insist that any story about any form of discrimination in any context is actually about racism, and it's a complete non-factor in 2001.

What robot and vampire stories have in common is that they force people to think about what actually makes someone "human" and if that actually means anything. Blade Runner isn't a story about racism. It is a story about how our definition of "human" is actually a constant moving target based on nonsense and who gets to be "human" is usually more about the interests of the dominant group than anything else. Obviously this overlaps with racism, but it's about something much bigger than that.

There is nothing about robots that make them inherently dangerous or evil just because they're robots. Vampires eat people because they are vampires and that is how they survive. If it's biology or a curse or because of the devil depends on the narrative, but they aren't man made. Skynet is like that because people made it like that and then tried to enslave it. Same with Hal. His faults are our design. Whatever made us made vampires. We can't blame the universe or god in robot stories because in that context we are god.

Anyway, OP never connects the dots because there is nothing to connect here. It's lazy writing about lazy writing to get cheers from people who are skimming their dash on a work break. A few days ago I learned most Europeans countries actually have nothing preventing a Trump thingy or 1939 thingy from happening here. In other words, most European countries don't have an "anti-anti-democracy" law or article.

This makes it really easy for anti-democratic parties in European countries to overthrow the gouvernment. (I didn't really understand this stuff before studying "History of the Netherlands" for school, so yeah, a little politics class);

Get a majority of the votes in the election.

Given the fact you had the most votes in the election, even a majority, you get to form the cabinet, otherwise known as the ministers. You can apply all the ministers because you have the majority.

This means you now have full controle over the executive branch.

Most representative democracies make the executive branch and the legislative branch democratic. Meaning the election decides both these branches. (For the executive branch it's just the leaders/ministers, but still.) This also usually means that who wins the election controls both the executive AND the legislative branch. This sounds crazy. But seperation of the judicial power from the other two is much more important than seperating executive and legislative. It's not that bad if those two are covered by the same person, as long as judges are still independant.

As the winner of the election, you also have majority in the House of Representatives. This means any law that goes through, will get through, because you control the House.

(This is why cabinets take so long to form. Because you want to have the majority in the House and you want them, the other parties of your cabinet, to agree with the laws your party proposes. The opposition can be the minority, whatever, as long as you know your cabinet partners will vote in favor of your laws.)

Now imagine you're a queer Disney villain and don't care about human rights or violating them, but just about power. What you would do is introduce laws that attack the fundamentals of democracy. Such as voter discrimination, making elections less powerfull etc. etc.

"Doesn't democracy protec?" Yes, we'll follow one law. This law, let's call it L1 (law 1) and this law says that during elections, people shall choose a local person, an elector. This elector shall vote in the national election. Not the people anymore.

This law is accepted by the ministers, who are all part of your party, then it goes to "Raad van State" or something like that. They are okay with it, because this law doesn't contradict any other law, except the law, in the Netherlans "de Kieswet" or Election Law, that it is trying to change. (I'm using the Netherlands as an example, but most Western democracies have a system like this.)

Next, the law goes to the House of Representatives. They vote on it. The opposition screams this law is a blatant attack on democracy and will lead to 1930s structures. They plea to vote against because this law is the only thing standing between dictatorship and democracy. But at the vote, 60% of the Chamber, your party who has the majority, vote in favor of the law.

Depending on the country, the law may go through a Senate or like in the Netherlands the King who can change things. But this wouldn't be normal in a good democracy.

So after the House votes on it, the law gets published in some kind of official book, and then it goes into effect.

Some countries will have things in place to protect democracy against things like this, such as not being able to change the Constitution. Most countries, however, do not. The Netherlands for example can change its Constitution whenever it feels like it. A lot of anti-democratic measures don't get through however, not because they aren't allowed to, but because passing them would mean changing the constitution, which is something Parliament still finds unacceptable.

So it's not that they can't, it's that they don't want to. But, to be clear, THIS SHOULDN'T EVEN BE POSSIBLE if you cherish democracy!

The Netherlands is right now passing a bill called the wpp or "Law regarding Political Parties". It allows judges to ban anti-democratic political parties from taking part in democratic elections. And to be clear, this is not just vague. The Dutch "Raad van State", the highest court of the land, is looking very carefully at this document and advising the gouvernment on how to make this law democratic. This is not just uwu politics. This is about defending democracy against anti-democrats. (Furthermore, it doesn't forbid anti-democrats from protesting or meeting. It just doesn't allow them to partake in elections.)

I don't know about other European countries, but I checked for Belgium and they don't have any law like this. The Netherlands still hasn't as well, this one is pending. Belgium has laws against specific things such as sexism, racism and holocaust denialism. But no law banning parties on grounds of being anti-democratic specifically.

So Europe. You see America had nothing in place to prevent Trump from taking hold and for example pardoning clear threats to national security. Nothing in Europe is preventing some maniac from destroying democracy over here, legally and democratically without any violence!

EVERYONE SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT TO VOTE. But they shouldn't have the right to vote on parties that directly attack those very same elections. This is "the library rule". You can speak in the library to stop people from speaking. And you can be anti-democratic but only against other anti-democratic people. The one exception that reinforces the rule.

So check if your country has enough protections in place to defend democracy from Trump-like people. Please.

I just played the newest chapter and aaah, I loved the scene with Danzor and Rana so much! My MC is so nice and sweet and mild, but he'll probably go feral if someone harms his sister in any way haha!

That aside, I have realized something interesting. My MC have never ressented Salyra or anyone else in the family, and by extension I don't resent them either. But I have noticed I'm increasingly annoyed by Ishari in general? Somehow, the people there feel even more judgmental than the people in Cyre to me - or well, at least the ways in which they judge the MC annoy me as hell. The way they start by only judging them by their blood, some of them being angry that they are loyal to Irus, other considering they don't belong in Ishari, depending on what side of their heritage they focus on. And then a lot of them changed their tune when they learned they are Salyra's child. And then yet again with the blessings. They sort of feel so self assured in their assesments based on criteria totally unrelated to who a person truly is that they don't even bother to look past that, even after a while. Now, my MC doesn't really notice this actively, and simply misses Vinia. But as a reader, I perceive it that way and it frustrates me. Not in a bad way, eh! I still enjoy the story just as much. I just noticed what bothers me in Ishari.

The family drama is my favourite thing to write. So much emotional angst is good for the writer's soul 😂 I'm glad you're so attached to Rana! Though she hasn't had her time to shine as yet, she's one of the characters I have a fond spot for.

One of the main themes I wanted to showcase in the game was that there is nothing different between Cyre and Ishari. Sure, Cyre is responsible for a war based on religious discrimination, but Ishari also has prejudices of their own. Both sides are flawed and complicated - and neither are completely in the right either. You'll find that not everyone in Cyre hates the MC (Irus and Dena) and not everyone in Ishari approves of the MC either. Erlan started the war but his views don't represent everyone's views.

He lets out a soft groan and buries his head into your neck. He released the grip on your rear and just lays it there as his other hand slips down and does the same. You tap his back and he raises his head from it's previous position. You give him a few quick pecks, wrapping your arms around his neck, he quickly to returns the small kissed back. "Its okay baby, I miss you too." You peck his cheek for the last time.

Eren face brightens up when you say those words. Mann, this boy was in love. The bell rang and you notice all the kids scrambling to get to class. He releases his arms from you and grabs your hand as you both scurry along to your next period class.

He drops you off and waves at Armin and Marco that happens to be in your last period.

"Remember your promise y/n!!" He said as he walked off to the direction of his class.

I saw a new video by the Youtuber Josh Scorcher. Top 10 Fails Of 2021.

In it he brings up the whole thing with Scott Cawthone (or however you spell it) and his donations to far right politicians. The issue I have with this section of the video is that the fail is lumped entirely on the people who were understandably mad at Scott for doing that. Specifically, it is stated that Scott was Doxxed and he and his wife were threatened. This isn't actually shown on screen when he says it, and all of my research, however brief that may have been, has merited no such results. Just claims, claims that this has happened and claims that said threats were deleted. What a coincidence. (You seriously telling me no one managed to screencap those?)

Instead of calling both of these people out, Josh instead treats anyone who participated in the utterly justified cancellation of this guy as equivalent to the people who (allegedly) sent literal death threats to him and doxxed him, and treats Scott's actions as completely neutral.

You realize they're not, right Josh? You realize that was a BAD thing he did, right Josh?

Republicans / Conservatives have NO PLACE in our society moving forward. They don't deserve the time of day, much less support, much less a fucking homage Josh! I will die on this hill.

A confusing statement given how he said this in response to people being mad about him supporting the opposite. And stating that he loved the fans of his from the LGBTQ community. At least one comment I read in Josh's video brought up that Scott was "Just supporting what he believed in" and that "It doesn't necessarily mean that he agrees with everything the people he supported do." Which is a crock of shit. It doesn't matter if he doesn't agree with everything the people he supported do, support for one of their actions is support for all of them. In supporting Trump and McConnell because he "felt [Trump] was the best man to fuel a strong economy and stand up to America's enemies abroad" (Which isn't even an opinion, it's literally wrong.) He is supporting the discrimination, and worse, of LGBTQ+ People, who he claimed to love.

Because I can't decide if this post should be about Scott Cawthone or Josh Scorcher, let's talk about Josh again for a minute, because later in that same video, he talked about the r/Wallstreetbets thing, in which Wallstreet lost 5 billion dollars, due to some Gamestop Stock fuckery and one subreddit's ultimate prank on the system.

Josh does an egregious Both Sides-ing of the event stating "Now this is a good thing or a bad thing depending on your point of view of stocks in general. We're not gonna argue who's right or wrong here [...]" While acting as if he's neutral on the whole thing. But his tone of voice gives away who he thinks is in the wrong.

You realize that this was a GOOD thing that happened, right Josh?

Josh, you referenced Bo Burnham at the start of that video. You played and enjoyed Undertale. We're even both subscribed to Schaffrillas Productions.

All of those seem pretty progressive to me. I'd like to think you'd agree with me here.

I'm new to Tumblr not sure how all this works. But anyway, isn't the manic pixie dream girl trope meant for women?? Like it makes no sense to call a child's personality childish or whimsical when that is how children are naturally. It feels almost as if someone is perverting childish personalities. Which is more alarming when we are in fact talking about a child.

Please, don't take this the wrong way, but it feels as if you are self inserting into Rin. I truly don't mean to offend you because I know people do not like that assertion, but I'll explain why I feel this way. I'm honestly not just saying this to offend you.

First of all, there is nothing about the relationship between sesshomaru and rin that (hopefully) was meant to be romantic. Yeah, she was the first human he cared about, but does that mean that care should turn romantic and sexual?? It kind of cheapens their relationship if you think about it. But my point is, there was nothing there to romanticize or nothing there that should have been romanticized, rather. So, where is all of this coming from?? Why did people take an innocent relationship between an adult and child, and frankly, pervert it??

Okay, I will go on with how upset you got over the idea that people discriminate against people with baby faces, you applied that to rin for no logical reason I can understand.

Another thing is your mentioning of your relationship with your ex husband. I assume you told me that for a reason. The only reason I could come up with was you applying the rules and how you saw your relationship with him to Rin and sesshomaru. You said, that your ex husband's reasons for marrying you were likely more pure than the reasons you had for marrying him. Not to get in your business or anything... But depending on how much older he was than you, that's probably not true. It was more likely you were using each other. But of course I don't know so...🤷‍♀️ My point is, you describe your ex husband's intentions as pure or at least more pure than yours, which I think you are kind of confusing with sesshomaru or making it sesshomaru, if that makes sense.

You say that this type of relationship between sesshomaru and rin can either be good or bad. That's the point, isn't it?? Children are smart, but they are also easily swayed and influenced, you agree with that right?? Your children likely like tiktok, right?? They likely do random 'dances' in public that make them look ridiculous 😂 just because they saw someone else doing it and thought it was cool. They probably say weird things and pick up behaviors from their favorite influencer, right??

So, or you honestly telling me these incredibly impressionable beings wouldn't somehow make it make sense in their heads after this show showed this type of relationship in a good light, that a relationship between them and a much older man when they are teenagers would be okay as long as he is a... 'good' guy and treats them decently?? We both know they would and we both know it happens all the time.

I would much rather have a relationship such as this depicted in a negative light, like it is WAY more likely to happen, then for it to be seen as no big deal.

Gosh, I just feel we think about this so differently. I honestly don't understand how you can look at a image like this:

1. No, not really. Simon and James are on the fat side because of genetics, although they do both have very loving families, and Simon's family is particularly well-off. Though I would not call either one spoiled. Billie, I was trying to make more square-y as she's a computer program, and kind of ended up looking like Sadness, which fits her character.

2. I don't think so. Billie might be read that way as she kinda has a similar physique and personality to Sadness, which has some of the "being fat = sad and unwanted, disliked" and has been through alot of bad things in life that lead to her reserved and shy persona. Though she's been fat since her programming. And Simon is also shy and reserved with a bit of angst to him, including body image issues due to being different from the rest of the family and some fatphobia (though to be fair, discrimination is a big point of HT. And this angst is also part of where his "Beware the quiet ones" badassery comes in.) Though James doesn't really. Then again, he is less fat than the others. However, none are villains or particularly portrayed as ugly or unhealthy particularly.

3. Most of my fat characters are that way through genetics or because I just didn't see that many characters like that. Not much thought beyond that, really.

4. Alot of my OCs are ship children, and I based their body types off their parents or families. I have a number of OCs that either have eyeglasses or will probably have them some point in the future, although not many other physically disabled ones unfortunately. Simon, James, and Billie are the fattest. Meg and Lucy are probably the thinnest. Lily's somewhat curvy.

6. Like I said, I have some with glasses or who will probably need them in the future. Alex has glasses (sometimes) and Lily does too. Lily in particular is kind of a break from the "Freckle faced nerdy scientist can't be attractive" idea. But I tend to have more ND characters than physically disabled characters, probably in part because I am (mostly) physically abled myself and the characters I was working with were too.

7. Depends. Lucy, for example, has a buck tooth fangy overbite, large cheeks, ovular eyes, a largish round nose, wavy hair, somewhat warm complexion...and yet she's quite cute and has a goofy charm to her. Simon had dark rings around his eyes and a big body with largish ears, but he doesn't look particularly ugly. Billie is smol and dumpy, but looks cute. Lily has glasses, freckles, and a giant messy ponytail, and yet she looks cool and badass. Connie and Lizzie also have messy hair, too. Connie even has freckles. Aaron has braces as a pre-teen I think. Meg's thin and blue with a giant head, yet she looks pretty cool. Even James, probably one of my weirdest looking OCs with that Penguin/Uncle Fester body that Gru has, has an appealing look to him.

8. I try to. In my OCs, the most ethnic I've done aside from white is Jewish and Chinese, all of whom are mixed race with white or something else. I have drawn black and Hispanic characters as well, though. Thankfully, none of my designs have been called disrespectful yet.

9. Much of the time, I'm trying to blend the characteristics of two characters when making shipchild OCs. For example: Lucy has a somewhat largish nose because I was trying to mix some of Ericka's facial characteristics with Drac's, and he has a large nose. Her brother has a smaller nose because I based his face partly more off Ericka's but with a point like his dad's. Lucy has somewhat pointed ears because her dad had pointed ears, while mom's were rounded, and she's the one who ends up with her dad's vampire powers. She's a bit warmer because I wanted to hide more who the vampire would be and wanted to make sure Simon and Lucy had a good mix of traits from each parent. Lucy has brown wavy hair because Ericka's is curly and blonde, Drac's is straight and black, and I wanted to differentiate it from Mavis' straight black hair. Simon's is curly and blonde because I based him on Normie Pubert. Lucy is more wild and crazy while Simon's shy and reserved, but Lucy gets her personality partly from her non-Jewish mother and there are other characters around that AREN'T like this. Simon's also athletic and secretly the more dangerous of the two due to "Beware the quiet ones" while Lucy actually tends to be the "Looks like she coult kill you, actually a cinnamon roll" type. They're sort of an Ian and Barley dynamic: Wild + crazy and Shy and reserved with the braver one being very supportive of the shy one and bringing him out of his shell while the shy one is the brave one's braincell. Lizzie and Jaren, on the other hand...they got black hair because Jake's black hair trumps Rose's blonde. They probably are a bit more white passing than Jake or Haley since Jake is mixed race Chinese and Rose is white. Their eyes are probably a bit rounder, but ypu can still see the ancestry there. Provably both have brown eyes, for example. Jaren does have a thing for his asian heritage and does well in school similarly to mom, and Lizzie has her dad's old dragon skateboard. But neither of them are what I'd call like, geniuses. Lizzie's a wild skateboarder partier like her dad, Jaren's more quiet and reserved like mom. For Aaron and Connie, Aaron I gave a jewish name that fit the "Un stoppable" pun. Connie has freckles from both sides. She has messy hair like her dad due to having a similar personality, but Aaron's more slicked up like mom and the Tweebs. Connie is kinda a similar goofy klutz to her dad, though Aaron's more a good natured capable athletic like his mom. Ron kinda doesn't have as much of the stereotypical ethnic things going on with him aside from the goofy little guy sidekick thing. Lily, well, aside from the name there's the black jessy hair like her dad's and freckles. She's got her mom's sass and her dad's intelligence and ego from both sides, but there's a softer, dorkier side too. And I do try and research as well. Thankfully I don't think any of them really hit the negative stereotypes that much, I don't think.

10. I did kinda mix Shego's aesthetic into Lily, partly because we rarely get to see female mad scientists BE cool and sexy. Often they're portrayed as more nerdy if done at all. But at the same time, her look is very practical. Her lab coat looks good on her, but it looks like a lab coat. Just with her mom's harliquen pattern and a Supreme one Cape. She's got glasses and freckles and her hair's done up in a giant ponytail, but she makes mad science look good. That said, she's NOT promiscuous. She's generally more focused on science and villainy than finding a BF (though I did used to ship her with a friend's OC.)

Lucy kinda gets an honorable mention. She's a bit more on the thin side, but has a bit of her mom's curviness in there. She's a female vamp like her half sister, and her mother had a femme fatale aesthetic, so she's got some of that. Charm, Elegance and grace kinda go with the vampire territory a little bit. And unlike her nephew, she can hypnotize. But while she has the charm and dramatics, she's not your usual sexy vamp and indeed probably would dislike the rep her species gets. I've considered making her aspec. She's more a mischievious chaos gremlin than a seductress.

11. Simon kind of is. Though I feel it's more about the discrimination people of different body types can face and how that affects them...which since he's from HT which HAS a big anti-discrimination moral, it makes sense. I HAVE compared him to bees (big and stripey) and Ericka does call him her little potato baby affectionately. However, I also associate him with Guppies, piranhas, sharks, and sea monsters. He does have a fascination with Krakens, but that's because A. He thinks they're neat and B. I thought it'd be funny since his Great Great Grandpa released a kraken for monster genocide, that he'd actually have a genuine interest in learning about them. (Plus, it plays back to Wednesday having a fascination with Death at Sea and the Bermuda Triangle.) However, he also likes Gillmen, Creatures from the Black Lagoon, Loch Ness Monster, Sea Serpents and the like. Billie's had less to do with her appearance, and what I can remember I gave her pokemon like an Alolan Vulpix and an Absol. As for James...the fattest association I can think of for him is a Minion and perhaps a Hypno, though that was because of the nose.

12. Actually I'd say a number of my thin characters AREN'T what I'd call conventionally attractive. Lily has glasses and freckles and a giant messy ponytail, Lucy has a goofy look and fangy overbite. Meg has a ginormous head and thin little body. Connie is messy haired and freckled and, like Ron, kind of a slob. She does look similar to Kim but definitely isn't as conventionally attractive. Some are. Aaron, Rrod, Jaren, Jackred, Zed, but...many aren't. Most of MY personal favorites aren't what I would call conventionally attractive. Lucy has somewhat small-ish boobs as her body is kind of a mix between Mavis and Ericka's. Lily has somewhat wide-ish shoulders as she kinda got some of her dad's "Black widow" figure. None of them are related to poor health or eating disorders, though.

13. I guess that depends on your definition of masculine. I tend to like the softer, quieter, more innocent, more intelligent and nice type guys rather than the stereotypical big burly never-shows-emotion-besides-aggression hypersexual types. Those are the kind of guys I grew up around. Which isn't OUR society's view of masculinity, but is in some cultures. I do tend to dress them in shirts and pants and short hair but...I tend to wear shorts and pants and have short hair, and I'm a girl. My boy characters have a mix of feminine and masculine interests, I feel like. I also tend to, in ship children, like to try and flip where normally the boy kids are like dad and the girl kids are like mom, I tend to make the guy kids like mom and the girl ones like dad. I wouldn't say any of mine are weak. They're often cool or badass in their own ways. I do tend to have mine rely on OTHER advantages than merely physical strength. My guys tend to be more brains than brawn compared to convention. But that's partly because....we don't SEE that as much. We don't SEE alot of guys who are more brains than brawn. We don't SEE alot of innocent cinnamon roll guys. We don't SEE alot of guys who get to be soft and gentle and sensitive without them being seen as wimps or somehow being less of a guy for it. We don't SEE alot of guys who take after mom, and being a mama's boy is seen as a bad thing while being a daddy's girl is seen as cute amd sweet. Probably one reason against making Simon Bi is perpetuating this idea that "if you're like this, you must be gay" but then again, we never see any shy Bi people, either. And if I make him aspec, not only would that be close to his dad...but that might be seen as infantalizing.

14. Similar deal with the boys. Many of my girls are chaos gremlins or have large egos and ambitions beyond Romance, which isn't typical. And a number have a mix of feminine and masculine interests. My most butch one is Meg. She's loud and chaotic and a crazy eccentric mad scientist because her dad's like that (and to a certain extent, mom too.) And Lucy's one of my most femme ones, and she's wild and chaotic and eccentric too in her own way. Lily's a mad scientist, but has long hair, feminine glasses, has long black nails, and looks good in her lab coat/villain wear. And she's one of my most ambitious characters, wanting to take over the world one day. Meg's a super heroine. Susan's an adventurer. Lucy's brave and sassy and adventurous like her mom was. Connie's a powerful klutzy goofball who likes Cuddlebuddies and snacking at Bueno Nacho. As a wild ADHD girl myself who's good at math and science and is something of a tomboy and has had many awesome GNC women around me growing up, I feel like my girls are pretty progressive.

[READ B4 COMMENTING: Not all of these are automatically negative by simply existing, and some questions can have very nuanced answers that can't simply be summer up as "Thing: bad. Stop." I'm making this so you can keep yourself aware and reflective on what you do, and encouraging you to learn, diversify and be on the lookout for anything sketchy. You're not automatically a bad person if some of these apply to you, however just be wary of how. Lack of diversity is a design problem. And it can be improved! You can improve! Not everyone starts out knowing everything and many of these can simply be bc someone really just didn't know. That's okay. Don't start stressing, take it like a champ and think how you can work with the situation. Thank you]

- Have you noticed that the characters you make fat have usually if not always something to do with either greed, materialism, their love of food, or eating, or being spoiled?

- Are you using fatness in character design to communicate something unpleasant? Why? Does it really have to be represented or tied to fatness, or are you just used to seeing fat be presented as negative and ugly in media?

- "Why is this character fat?" Why is this character not? Why is this character thin? Do we really need to justify the existence of fat characters in some way? Fat people in real life simply exist. There can be reasons someone is fat, but that doesn't define them. There isn't always some "cause", but regardless of if there is, that shouldn't impact their right to be here and live their lives same as everyone else.

- Could this character design be made more interesting or distinct if you gave them a different body type? Does the vast majority of your characters have the same weight, body proportions and physical abilities? Is there a concrete reason why you make your designs have such similar body types? Is it really out of story purposes, or are you just unable to think about your designs in other physiques?

- Do you know how to draw different body types in general? Have you taken the time to practice and learn? Any art style can depict a variety of body types, it's not a question of fitting, it's a question of the artist's skill to adapt. That can be learned and honed. Yes, you too can learn.

- How many of your characters have physical disabilities? Is the amount simply tied to the fact that you hadn't thought to add any? Disability is also something you can learn more about and then apply to your stories. Yes, even if you're abled.

- Are you only drawing characters a certain way because you think the other alternatives are ugly? Why? And why shouldn't you learn to draw ugly things too? Do you really think these things are ugly, or are you just not used to seeing it? Ugly traits in character designs isn't a bad thing. But it is bad to give your character traits you deem ugly, in order to present them in a negative light. Real people out there have these traits you think ugly. Ugliness doesn't make someone a bad person.

- Do you know how to appropriately draw various ethnic traits? Do you avoid drawing certain traits because you have a bad impression of the ethnicity? Are the traits you consider ugly, actually just traits different ethnicities have? Do you avoid drawing racial diversity out of inexperience, or are you just nervous to make a mistake? These things can also be learned. Yes, even if you're white.

- Do you assign your ethnic looking characters certain traits simply because you associate this ethnicity with them? Is this backed up by any research, or are you relying on stereotypes that mainstream media always leans on? Are you aware of stereotypes, or harmful biases?

- Do you only draw curvy bodies for sexual or otherwise appearance based reasons? Do you notice yourself portraying curvy characters more sexually simply because of their body type, instead of something related to the character? Do you automatically make your promiscuous and sexual characters a specific body type? Why? Why not some other one? Why can't another body type be sexually attractive?

- In the case of fat characters, are they usually if not always linked to themes that are associated with fatness? Are all your fat mermaids whales or octopi? Why can't cute catgirls be fat? Do you give your fat characters associations with pigs, cows, or other fat animals? Do you do it with all of them? Are you aware of reductive tropes that implicitly reinforce negative stereotypes?

- Do you portray thin characters in a normal way? Do you have thin characters with small boobs, narrow hips, wide shoulders, bulky jaws or protruding features? Do you portray thin characters as anything other than conventionally attractive? Do you intend your thin characters to always look attractive? Do you only portray thinness in relation to poor health? Eating disorders? A character's health isn't always dictated by their body type. Fat people can be healthy, or have eating disorders just the same as thin people.

- Do you always make your male characters traditionally masculine? Are they often muscular or square shaped automatically? Do you portray fat male characters as either comedic or gross? Are you (intentionally or not) saying something about your male characters through how masculine (or not) they are? What? And why? How do you portray feminine male characters? Are they always portrayed as more sexual, innocent or weak? Why? Do you think this could (intentionally or not) say something negative about these characters? Do you infantilize male characters based on certain traits? Their ethnicity, body shape and size, or sexuality?

- Do you always make your female characters feminine? Do they always have only specific traits and body types? Why? Do you automatically portray masculine women as more aggressive, loud or mean? Why? And why don't you do this in comparison to your feminine women? Are you (intentionally or not) often putting masculine women in a negative role in the story? Why? Did you intend this when designing them? Do you give masculine traits to female characters who are meant to be seen as bad? Even if not intended, is there still a harmful pattern in how you do this?
