                              APPARENTLY, STEVE IS A FASHION DISASTER and cannot, under no circumstances, go on dates looking like a grandpa. He thinks his wardrobe is just fine, thanks a lot, but even the retired Captain America is powerless against a force like Allie Novak, which is how he finds himself on a shopping trip for 'proper rendezvous attire' and inside a spacious changing cubicle.           It was cold and wet and Dan had been walking for hours, he shivered as he held his backpack tightly against his chest. It was his birthday and instead of celebrating it with someone who cared, he had been essentially been kicked out and forced to take care of himself when he had no home to go to. That really sucked, but he still had his favourite foster parents’ address memorized and put it in on google maps, determined to walk there himself.

          When the boy knocked on the door, he greeted Taylah with a grin. “I’m back.”

          “Oh my god, Dan,” Taylah exclaimed. “Come here.” She reached out to pull the teenager inside and out of the rain, looking him over for any wounds or sign of illness. It may have been over a year since she had last seen him, but that maternal instinct was there.

          “Can you get him a towel?” they asked, the question directed towards either of their wives before they pulled Dan into a tight hug. “Are you okay? What happened? Did you walk here?”

          “Ah shit, Kid...” Ronnie murmured, reaching out to hold Allie’s hands across the table. “I’m sorry. That shit... you’ve already gone through so much shit. Now to lose someone else you care about? That’s fucked up, Kid, I’m sorry.” Ronnie had heard about what happened on the news and he’d wondered if the inmate who had died was someone Allie knew, but he’d already been so worried about whether Allie was gonna wake up or not that he hadn’t fully considered it.

          “I’m here for you, ya know that right? And Kaz... you two okay again?” Last he’d heard they’d been in the middle of a spat, but that was how they worked. They’d fight for a week and then make up. He really hoped that was the case this time. She couldn’t lose anyone else.

Allie didn’t know where she was. Everything was fuzzy and she felt strange. That haze when you’ve just woken after a night of partying in a bed that’s not yours. Only she wasn’t in a bed nor was she even lying down. She also didn’t have the pounding headache and nausea. She felt... yeah, fuzzy. But not in a bad way. Warm. She felt warm, yeah.

She brought her eyes up from where her toes were in the sand that surrounded her, hands extending out in front of her, twisting as she examined them. She felt like she was in one of those... lucid dreams. Or maybe a waking dream. Something about this didn’t feel quite real. Maybe she had just gotten that fucked up that she’d woken in another country.

Her eyes shot up when she heard her name being called. Her breath caught in her throat and her eyes widened. Bea. “Bea!” she screamed the name at the top of her lungs. She let out an emotional, disbelieving laugh before running to the redhead, wrapping her in a tight hug. She didn’t care if this was a dream. Bea was here.
