⚠️ Nobody could've ever bet on the odds... except ARMY.

(BTS and their LA story: a full 7 years later)

In 2014, within the first year of debut, BTS went to America for the first time to shoot "American Hustle Life", a reality tv show where they spent 2 weeks in Los Angeles with hip-hop mentors and carrying out different missions in order to experience and learn true hip-hop culture.

In Episode 7, mentors Tony Jones and Nate Walka took Bangtan to Skid Row, a community in downtown LA, known for having one of the biggest populations of homeless people in the world. There, the boys distibuted food packs to, and spoke with, the homeless--a process that aimed to instill in them the value of 'giving back.'

In one scene, Jimin and Jungkook met a homeless man who told them what is probably one of the most memorable pieces of advice ever captured on film:

"Stay true to yourself, stay true to your heart. Be who you are. Don't be like some other group. Be who you are right from your soul, right from what's in you, why you're an artist, what made you attracted to art... Then be that. Be true to that that attracted you, and you'll be good at whatever you do. Never lose who you are. Know who you are...."

Seven years later, in the very same place where they handed out flyers on the streets for their free concert to anyone who cared to stop and listen, BTS came back as Global Superstars.

These same small-town boys from 2014, wide-eyed in their wonder for the world and its possibilities, anxious about their rightful place in it, but steadfast in their shared love for music and the pursuit of their dreams came back to the very same place from 7 years ago to claim, rightfully and desevedly so, the American Music Award for 'Artist of the Year.'

With the bets (then and since) stacked incredibly against them, who would have thought that these 7 Korean boys from a struggling agency would later become the world's biggest music artist by any metric? And what makes it more incredible is that these boys have stayed true to their art and their heart, with the same unbelievable passion and humility.

Well, as Namjoon said in their acceptance speech at the 2021 AMAs:

"Nobody could have ever bet on the odds of us standing here receiving this award. Except, y'all, ARMY. Except y'all."

Namjoon was right. ARMY have always believed in BTS. It has always been ARMY. And, my God, are we all so proud!
