Headcanons of the Alien Hunters _11/17/22 UPDATE
Some are headcanons and some are just Lil tidbits for future reference. I'm nervous but here I go...(UPDATED! N EDITED!)
They both came together because of their fondness of adventure and seeking out new species or covering species -as well as teaching others about certain species/cultures (they love to make it fun or just entertaining_Sort of easier to take in for younger bots as well)
Cosmos meet Meteorfire at Maccadems while he was in a huff. They ended up cheering him up and... you know where that went
Meteorfire tends to get way to into whatever he is doing. Such as being a TV host. Whole not a bad focus of his. It tends to lead into more trouble then not. (And we've seen where that lead to)
Cosmos is the one known to be more responsible and stable one to make sure Meteorfire doesn't end up spending or losing to much of their items/tools/shandex (mostly tools). As well as being a huge reason why he's still online and in one-piece.
Meteorfires is a bit bolder when it comes to things. Tends to be more energetic and may come off as arrogant even though he means well in the end.
Meteorfire and Cosmos both pretty much weigh one another out for responsibility, safety and boldness, e.t.c at the end of the day. Both in positives and negatives.
Cosmos is a huge nerd and is basically an encyclopedia when it comes to different subjects/cultures/species/e.t.c whatever they focus on or have encountered.
Meteorfire is sort of gifted with the whole TV-show host thing as a youngling he was a shut-in and shy but grew out of it after leaving.
Cosmos choose a UFO for convenience and survival (one time) ((Inspired by another post)) Also they think it's cool AF
Cosmos enjoys a good Bauble drink (favorite being a mix of Iron and Oil). It's their favorite and it shows. They also enjoy bubbling rusts shakes and Smooth ruby flavored punch. It's the only thing that keep them going on those long or boring days.
Meteorfire loves some warm energon with his own twist of things. with heavy mercury flavoring with some light specs of crystal energon and sweetened oil. Sometimes some Limestone flavoring makes it sourer. It's an odd drink type, but he likes it. Not even Cosmos will drink it || Maccadem was intrigued when he first encountered Meteorfire's...creation
They both share a love for Foil cakes (similar to cake bites or muffins :p ) thel snack on them or enjoy them together on a lazy night. It's sort of their food to bond over with.
Cosmos was pretty shocked at the state of Metorfire and their home when they got back. Especially the photos of themselves everywhere.
||--|| After everything and once Cosmos was back, Cosmos would just banter with him in a light hearted-way to cheer him up. They talked about everything and what happened during that time, but they went to cheer him up with some older Alien hunter videos and some games they had in the RV. Just simple bonding time.
Cosmos-while in the entity. (The primary source of food when Luna 3 was quarantined and once it was fully abandoned.) Cosmos was trapped and immobilized for easier control, not fully conscious of their own surroundings but they were conscious enough to take notice of what was occurring around them. Feedings weren't frequent, occurring mostly when it would move or when it needed to absolutely had to. Resulting in some not-so-fun terrors and hidden fears come to rise during those moments for the UFO hunter.
||+++||The aftermath would stay but with Meteorfire there to comfort them they'd roll it off easily, warm earth blankets, drinks, and some games always helped them.
They tend to get into more trouble if they are looking for animal/planet/e.t.c species than just different civilizations
Most interactions with other civilizations are smooth and pleasant, they are hesitant at first but Cosmos calm and more friendly frame usually bring things to a more pleasant end.
Meteorfire will usually handle any hostile interactions but tends to need more backup from Cosmos after a while (if the interaction has gone on to far with no end in sight or if he's gotten (them) in over their helms/heads)
Cosmos hates the dark, before it really wasn't something they cared about. But now, after the entity- that's a problem.
Meteorfire may have gotten his best friend back but it doesn't help the guilt and anger he hold against himself. He still has the constant dread of loosing them again.
Both lean onto one another on the worse of night's. Usually cheering one up by the end of the night. Sometimes they fall into recharge by one another or Cosmos in his lap.
Cosmos will and can carry Meteorfire. Sometimes against his own will, but it's not like he's stopping them from it.
Meteorfire tends to be a bit over the top at times. Cosmos has to calm him down sometimes. Sometimes they will have to drag them away/out/push them to another area to calm down or to talk.
Meteorfire talks with his hands. He loves to make motions and exaggerate at times (but with movements) he's a body talker. Just as much as he loves to talk he loves to move. But hates dancing, he hates it.
Cosmos is a soft talker, love to talk if you get them onto something they love/enjoy/know about. But relatively quiet.
Cosmos 17 stellar cycles older then Meteorfire. Which is fun to bring up at times for the two. They joke around with it a bunch.
They just love earth. Humans, animals, the cultures. So much on that planet! They do and will go back for 'vacations'
Meteorfire is Pansexual and Cosmos is Asexual(Ace)
Cosmos goes by they/them (they came off neutral and I've stuck to it)
They only started having a thing a bit after the events of "The other one"
BIO HEADCANON
Jetfire and Meteorfire are related - they had been very close when they were younglings but once Jetfire started to be seen as a 'warrior', in their little community it got to his helm. Jetfire had been at Meteorfire's side since day one, even when the others in their little community would attempt to move Jetfire to the higher ranking arials groupings.
Meteorfire was closed off and hadn't adorned the more desired traits of their community, not making it better he was reserved and later a shut-in. Yet they remained close and when given the time, be able to connect one on one.
Later on, Jetfire would start to adopt a warrior title, bringing out a larger and newer persona of his to light. Including turning towards those of desired ranks of their community. Shifting away from Meteorfire and eventually against him. On the other hand, Meteorfire would adopt a T.V persona, generally sticking low but trying to keep in contact with Jetfire when he could.
Finally, Jetfire and Meteorfire would break ties with one another after Jetfire had been speaking with Meteorfire, unknowingly being long enough for a few others to trash his little home and have his pet run away. Leading to a physical confrontation.
|++| They only saw one another in the events of "The immobilizer" and "the perfect Decepticon" but didn't even speak to one another. (Jetfire tried but...Meteorfire dipped out almost immediately
Canon:
Meteor has weak left knee
Boy's helm can turn almost 360 but no one knows if he can actually do so, only that he can face the back.
his jetwings can actually be removed off himself.
TL;DR Meteorfire and Cosmos are besties
Jetfire and Meteorfire need family counseling -I left it brief lmao sorry_It be late

Request time
I have no requirement except I want the reader to be optimus wife.
I was a fluffy one shot with ur every character in it.. a day to day life of a sheriff's wife in town as she meets and greets people while delivering Lunch to her workaholic husband.
I am leaving the rest in ur reliable writing skill.
It was a beautiful day, the sun still low in the early morning sky meant it wasn't too hot. A soft breeze shook the leaves to make a peaceful sound. You were outside doing your morning laundry chore, when arms wrapped themselves around your waist. Lips pecking at your cheek. You giggled and leant back into the warm body behind you.
"I have to go. I hope you have a pleasant day." Optimus kissed your cheeks a few more times, before spinning you around and placing a kiss on your lips.
"Be safe, I'll see you when you get home." You kissed him once more, then waved him off as he headed into town.
You finished washing the clothes and hung them up to dry. Heading inside to start the rest of the daily chores. Then you spotted Optimus' lunch still on the table. You shook your head and tutted. Your husband was so eager to get to work he often forgot to grab his lunch. Although, you also wondered if he did it purposefully, knowing full well you would bring it to him.
You grabbed his lunch and made your way into town. You never minded the trip, it gave you an excuse to see your husband and to see other townsfolk as well.
You spotted Arcee and Elita first, they were leading a herd of horses past the outskirts of the town. They spotted you and waved, you smiled and waved back. You stood for a few minutes watching as the beautiful creatures trotted by you. You always enjoyed watching them work, and thought back to the time Arcee taught you how to ride a horse. Once the herd had passed, you continued walking.
Bulkhead and Wheeljack where carrying a fresh supply of Energon into the saloon, Jazz was watching them carefully ensuring they didn't drop any of the supply.
"Good morning." You called out. Jazz waved, but the others just greeted you, their full hands preventing them from returning a wave.
"Watch out." Wheelie zoomed under Bulkheads legs. Bulkhead almost tripped but managed to regain his step, and managed to keep hold of the Energon. You giggled and kept moving towards the Sherrif's office.
Croshairs and Cliffjumper rode past you, tipping their hats as they greeted you. You tipped a pretend hat in return.
"Mornin' miss." Jetfire greeted you, his cane slightly shaking from his weight. He was crossing the road towards the general stores location.
"Morning Jetfire."
"I see he forgot his lunch again." Jetfire tutted.
"He did." You replied. "Honestly if it wasn't for me he probably wouldn't eat."
"You're probably right about that. Take care now." Jetfire hobbled past you.
You spotted Hound and Sideswipe talking outside Hound's armory, most likely about weapons. They spotted you and waved, you returned the gesture. Though it was still quite early, mostly everyone was out and about. You were happy to see them all.
You finally arrived to the Sherrif's. Hot Rod and Bumblebee were talking outside. They were signing, and though you knew a little sign language, Hot Rod and Bee's hand movements were in a pace you couldn't keep up with. You caught a few words such as 'escape' and 'cattle'. But not much else.
"Morning gentlemen." You greeted.
"Good Morning madame." Hot Rod tipped his hat to you. Bee did as well then signed Good Morning.
"Everything well for you Hot Rod?" You asked.
"Yes, thank you. I was telling Bee that I found a hole in my fence, though it is fixed now I had two rogue cattle this morning." Hot Rod explained.
"Have they been caught?"
"Oui, Crosshairs and I got them pretty quickly."
"I'm glad. Now, I must get this to the Sheriff." The two parted allowing you to enter the building.
Ironhide was inside leaning against one of the prison cells bars. He was leering inside at it's occupants. Leadfoot and Roadbuster were inside. Leadfoot was holding his head while Roadbuster was still sleeping on the bed.
"Feeling better?" Ironhide asked.
"I will after some Energon and some good hard work." Leadfoot grumbled. He smacked Roadbuster, waking him. Roadbuster sat up a little startled by the smack, but soon came to his senses.
"You gonna keep us in here all morning or can we get to work?" Roadbuster groaned.
"If you didn't get into so many brawls you wouldn't end up in here. Now come on, out of my cell." Ironhide opened the cell door and let the two out. They shuffled out of the door.
Ironhide turned to you.
"Sherrif's out right now. He's doing his rounds but he'll be back soon." Ironhide explained.
"That's alright, do you mind if I wait here?" You asked. Ironhide shrugged and sauntered over to his desk to fill out paperwork.
You made your way to Optimus' desk and sat down in his chair, placing his lunch on the table. Your eyes glazed over some of the paper neatly stacked on his desk. Neat handwriting written across them.
Before you had any time to see what was written the door opened, catching your attention. Your husband sauntered through, taking off his hat as he did. He spotted you and grinned, his eyes sparkling in adoration for you.
"My love, this is a pleasant surprise." He greeted, grabbing your hands and helping lift you from the chair. He embraced you, giving you a soft kiss.
"Is it a surprise when you once again forgot your lunch?" You giggled.
"Ah, I did, I am forgetful sometimes. Thank you for bringing it." He said, not confirming nor denying if it was intentional. You combed his hair with your hand and brushed some dust from his clothes.
"I can't let you go hungry. But I should be going now."
"Could you stay a little while? Perhaps we could take a walk?" He asked.
"Aren't you busy?"
"I can always make time for you, especially since you made your way down here. Ironhide can cover, and Bee is close by as well." Optimus explained.
"Well if you insist." You linked your arm with your husbands and let him guide you outside.
Though the day was later and the sun was higher in the sky it was still a pleasant day. The breeze keeping you cool. You and Optimus took a stroll through the town, watching the townsfolk as they worked. You gently rubbed Optimus's arm as you walked, enjoying the closeness. You enjoyed every second you got with your husband.
"Anything troublesome happening lately?" You asked.
"Not of late my dear. All is quiet in our little town." Optimus stated.
"Is it quiet?" You raised a brow. Just as you spoke Skids and Mudflap burst through the general store's door. Daytrader following behind, berating them for making a mess in his store.
"Well, perhaps not quiet. But not any louder than normal." Optimus quipped. You giggled. Optimus unlinked from your arm and headed towards the disturbance.
You watched him work as he calmed Daytrader and scolded the twins. After the situation was handled he came back to you, offering you his arm once more.
"Perhaps I should get back to work. But I will walk you to the outskirts before I say farewell." Optimus suggested. You rested your head against his shoulder as you walked to the edge of the town, enjoying his presence.
Though it was a short walk, you still enjoyed your time with your husband. You parted once at the edge of town. Optimus cupped your cheek with his hand and leant down to capture your lips. The two of you sharing soft kisses for a minute.
Optimus was the first to pull away, brushing your cheek with his thumb. You leant into his touch, not wanting him to let go.
"I hope the rest of your day is quiet and easy." Optimus hummed.
"I think I should be saying that to you." You countered. Optimus chuckled.
"Let's hope we both have a good day. I will see you upon my return home later. Farwell for now my love." Optimus captured you lips for one final kiss before he started walking back into the town.
You watched him walk away for a few seconds, before turning and heading back to your home, your lips missing Optimus' touch.

Jettwins x fembot jet reader, They both fall in love with the reader who is part of the Prime team
TFA! Jet-Twins w/ an S/O on Team Prime
Characters: POLY! Jetfire and Jetstorm (Transformers Animated) Requester: 🔥Anon A/N: Imma call you 🔥Anon since I use that emoji for Jetfire and wanna save the other emoji just in case! I do hope you like this, it was fun to write for these two goofballs <3 ⚠️ Spoilers/Trigger Warnings for: Nothing bad really ⚠️
╔══════════════════════════════════════════╗
╚═════ Jetfire + Jetstorm ════════════════════════╝
🔥⛈️ When Jetfire and his brother came onto Earth for the first time, you were arriving with Sentinel, whom you found driving at a higher speed than normal in Detroit, and were shocked to see Optimus fighting a large mech
🔥⛈️ When Sentinel began to yell at Optimus, you stood up for him, yelling right back into the Elite Guard member's face
"Oh for crying out loud, Sentinel! If you're supposed to be a Prime, a mentor to many up-and-coming Autobot soldiers, you need to listen to others and not just that annoying voice in your processor! Listening to yourself alone is not a quality of an Autobot, it's a quality of a Decepticon!"
"How dare you call me a Decepticon!"
"How dare I?! How dare you treat the only Bot that you have left in your life, one of the rare few who ever truly cared about you, like a hunk of scrap metal?! You need to grow up and quit acting like a sparkling! It's pathetic."
🔥⛈️ The twins were shocked to see how quick Sentinel backed down when you began to get more and more angry. And the way you stood there and glared at their boss, one of the highest-ranking Primes of that time, and scolded him like how a Carrier or Sire would their own offspring
"Just- get out there and find that fugitive!" He barked at the two.
🔥⛈️ After the whole... Wasp-incident... you remained in contact with the twins, sending them some photos you would take around the city. Heck, sometimes you'd go for drives outside of the city with Sari and/or Prowl to get away from the business
🔥⛈️ They loved to look at the scenery of the planet you protected, and from time to time, they would try to get Sentinel to let them go back to Earth to 'check on you guys'. Yeah... Jazz always knew something else was on their mind, Sentinel on the other hand, not so much. He's pretty dumb when it comes to relationships
🔥⛈️ Anyways. They both struggle with certain things when you eventually enter a relationship with them.
🔥Jetfire
He is much higher with his voice, meaning he yells more than his twin. So, if you are sensitive to loud noises, do tell him early on so he can tone himself down more often
Jetfire also has issues with his emotions, though it's more severe than his brothers. This was shown when Ironhide tried flirting with you and he went from a happy-go-lucky bot to a glaring and borderline-possessive one
Speaking of possessiveness, he has his moments. It's not severe like others like the Decepticons, but it does appear when he thinks your relationship may be in danger. Even the most arrogant have their doubts
Finally, his fire sometimes flares up when his anger gets out of control. And, unlike Jetstorm's winds, his are far more destructive, so, if he ever gets mad, keep your guard up in case of a metal-melting outburst
⛈️Jetstorm
Like I said earlier, Jetfire may be the loudest twin, but Jetstorm is the more physically threatening despite their similarities. His wind is something he uses to his advantage, since he has to control such a strong energy, his strength is slightly better than Jetfire's
He may be more loose than Jetfire when it comes to your interactions, but he is also protective. One time, you were speaking to Sentinel when he almost blew a gasket, and when he nearly yelled at you, the flying Autobot glared, making the Prime stand down in slight fear
He knows you can handle yourself, but he feels the need to protect you. Sometimes it can seem like he was coddling, and whenever you brought this up to him, he would apologize, and you could tell it was sincere. His Decepticon CNA just messes with his processor like it does with Jetfire
Speaking of his CNA, he may be less showing when it comes to his dark thoughts, but make no mistake; he, much like his brother, would do anything to keep you safe. Nothing would be bad enough to keep their love safe
🔥⛈️ But, despite their flaws, the twins do prove to be good partners. They don't get jealous of one another badly, instead they just pout like sparklings until you pay them the same amount of attention as you did their sibling
🔥⛈️ Jetfire and Jetstorm also like to take you patrolling with them. While it may not be easy to handle, as they were rarely ever free after the Decepticon lock-up, since they were still looking up for any rogue signals, they would try making any time up for you
🔥⛈️ When you returned to Cybertron after getting the 'Cons locked away, you were appointed as a head in the Council, a Bot who would replace Longarm Prime, or rather Shockwave, and would lead the Cybertronian Intelligence unit
🔥⛈️ After taking that position, you managed to get Ratchet back into the medical field as a head medic, you got Bee and Bulkhead into the Elite Guard (though they still had to move up the ranks on their own), you helped attempt to repair the relationship between Optimus and Sentinel (with the help of Jazz), and you got Prowl to be marked down in the history data-pads as the hero that helped remove the threat of the Decepticons from Cybertron that he was
🔥⛈️ It was hard to adjust to such a ranking change and with the additional work that came with said position, but you proved to be very capable of it. And with your future sparkmates by your sides, you could handle any challenge you faced

Ouughh egg....
Thinking about the mechs that lay their eggs in cars... I feel this would imply that there is still a process to impregnate the carrier first. Once they get knocked up then the eggs develop in their gestation tank. But, as a certain point, the eggs get too large and need some kind of nest before they can fully mature and hatch. And for grounders they find that human cars are perfect. They provide a convenient safe shell for their sparklings to nest in and are easily filled with fuel/energon. Plus they get to frag the sexy car to put their eggs in hdjshjd
Fliers might have a slightly different preference? Maybe they'd prefer to build a nest at a greater altitude. Seems safer. Fliers with smaller frames especially (like think tfp starscream) would need a nest as their frames wouldn't support the eggs for long. Larger flight frames may keep the eggs for longer and have then laid only when almost ready to hatch. So those may not really need a nest. Maybe they find human planes sexy too heheh (don't ask the air force nor the airlines how much eggs in their planes cost them yearly cos its an obscene amount. Each aircraft is so expensive)
Exactly how I think the eggs work, there's a point when they need to continue developing outside of the body
Plus you can get some really shitty cars for some relatively cheap prices (after all, they don't need to actually drive in order to be a good incubator)
I'm just imagining poor Jetfire all full of Starscream's eggs realizing he might actually need a nest, and feeling sooo so guilty about fucking eggs into a large jet he "borrowed" (I mean, he will give it back after the eggs hatch) (can't promise they'll want it back after that though)
I feel like this is a continuity where the bots have been around for a decent bit if the air force and airlines are getting used to it
What do humans do when they their airplane is suffering from Cybertronian eggs?
I feel like peace has already hit or they're in a lull in the war
Are the bots officially out or are they still robots in disguise?
I'm imagining Optimus apologizing profusely every time he finds out someone laid eggs in a human owned vehicle, and it's incredibly obvious this is an embarrassing topic for him
Gdhdfh imagine it's like tfa and Optimus is just Some Guy who tumbled into being in charge of the autobots who are on earth

Teaching TFA jetfire and jetstorm how to file their taxes OR Explaining the concept of a sigma male to TFA Prowl
OH GOD ARCHIE.
These are both terribly difficult things to have to explain to each of these characters, and I thank god every day that I'm not tasked with educating space robots on the incredible nuances of human bullshit.
If I had to pick, I'd pick explaining sigma males to TFA Prowl. Cause I'm bad at math and rely on TurboTax every year to save me from the terrible grips of my government, so I would be of NO HELP to the Jet twins.
"Okay so sigma males basically think that they're better than... Do you know what the term 'alpha male' means? Please tell me you do."
Prowl's faceplate furrows slightly, lost in thought. "...I viewed a fascinating documentary on wolves. Isn't it a highly outdated, misled social construct denounced by its previous discoverer?"
You could have cried from the relief you felt. "YES! Yes, exactly. It's total bullshit. But these guys think it's real."
Judging by the twisted grimace Prowl is still pulling, this revelation hasn't explained much.
"So there are these guys that think there's something better than being called an 'alpha male-'"
"The thing that doesn't exist."
"Yes. And they call it a 'sigma male-'"
"Another thing that doesn't exist."
"If you'd believe it, YES!"
This was still going to be a very long, very exhausting conversation, you could tell. But at least with Prowl you weren't starting from zero.

Caring, Keeping and Collecting Transformers - A Guide 9/?
Maverick is unknowingly surrounded by Transformers. He knows something is up though. Just not quite what it is exactly.
Bradley and Jake, having never met, are embarking on their own journeys and will have to learn to deal with the fact that they've both been adopted by Transformers.
Despite having years more experience, Maverick is no help at all.
ONE TWO THREE FOUR FIVE SIX SEVEN EIGHT
NINE
He wakes up early, but the bed is sans Jake Seresin. Hopefully he didn’t kick him or whack him in the face during the night, he’s not used to sharing a bed. Either way, he feels well rested and heads for the shower, hanging his uniform up and hoping the steam will help. It’s got fantastic pressure, which is what he’d expect for Ice, he’s always been particular about his showers. He pulls on his jeans, not bothering with anything more than a white tank, he’s going to need to iron his uniform, the steam not even having any effect on the worst of the creases. He’s a little bummed that he’s going to have to pull on his uniform not even a week into his leave, but balanced against the fact that he now knows for certain his car is a Transformer it’s a small price to pay.
He shouldn’t be surprised when he walks into the kitchen and Ice gestures toward the garage with his cup of coffee. He pours a cup for himself and heads in the general direction Ice have indicated. He finds Bronco, Dustdrift and Ninja all lounging around in a circle with Mav talking to them; Jake is there as well, eyes wide and mouth split in a grin as he follows their conversation. Bronco looks funny, sitting like a toddler with his legs bent underneath him but he also doesn’t seem as angry or upset so he walks in and settles down beside him.
“Morning…”
“Dustdrift is pretty sure that Jetfire’s wings are two days travel north of here. We can go and pick them up after out meeting this morning!” Jake says, and Bradley raises an eyebrow, looks to where Ice is standing in the doorway watching them all with a twist to his lips.
“Let’s see what the meeting brings about hmm? I imagine the US Navy can probably manage picking up some wings and transporting them here.”
“I wouldn’t bet on it…” Mav mutters, winking at him and Jake.
… … …
Unlike with Maverick, he doesn’t have to chivy either Bradley or Jake along. They’re both presentable and ready to leave well before Tom actually wants to depart, leaving him yelling at Mav to hurry the fuck up. He tries to ignore Bradley’s eyeroll and smirk, because it hurts a little to have almost a decade of time lost between them. They used to share those looks about Mav when Bradley was a teenager and seeing it now makes his heart ache.
Finally, Mav is ready, looking disgruntled about having to wear his service uniform but he still looks good and when Mav catches him looking he grins and shoots him a wink. It’s a good thing he did tell Seresin about the status of their relationship, anyone with two eyes and a slightly less-than-straight view of the world would see what there is between him and Mav. Fortunately for them most of their peers and superiors are oblivious, or, definitely in some cases, simply turn a blind eye.
“I’ll drive,” Tom says, and they all follow him out to his car. He stands there looking at it, wonders if his boring beige sedan is suddenly going to come to life. It’s going to take him a while to not expect everything to have a hidden second-form. Hound is also parked just out in the street, and if a car could look insolent it would look like Hound in that instant. He suspects today is going to be a challenging day.
“It’s just a car,” Dustdrift says, and their voice is scratchy sounding and Tom thinks it may be the first time he’s heard them speak, but it’s also a relief to know that he’s been in control of his car this entire time and not just had the illusion of control. He doesn’t think he would take it anywhere near as well as both Bradley and Maverick have regarding their favorite modes of transportation.
“I’m not leaving Bronco here.”
The look of relief on the blue trucks face is immense and Tom shrugs. Technically he cannot order the Transformers to do anything, not as far as he understands it. There is an unwritten memorandum, and as he understands it the human race is only alive because a particular faction of Transformers seem to prefer them that way.
“Fine. You and Seresin in Bronco, I’ll go in Hound and Mav, you’re driving my car.”
“Uh, why do we need all three vehicles? Can’t I take Ninja?”
“We can’t let Hound or Bronco just drive up to the gate without drivers!” Tom snaps, and of course Mav’s eyes go wide with delight.
“Why not? Wouldn’t it be great?”
“No! We’re meant to be keeping their existence a secret, not turning it into material to prank people.”
“You spoil all my fun…”
Tom knows half of what Mav says he does simply to wind Tom up and get a reaction, but some days he wishes he could have a more peaceful existence. He knows he’d get bored far too quickly and dismisses the thought usually within seconds, but today he just has the additional worry of something going a certain way which he had never thought was possible. Having Mav know about Transformers is one thing, but to also have Bradley and somehow another young man drawn into it makes the weight of responsibility feel unbearably heavy. He really hopes there is someone higher up he can pass it on to, but is also smart enough to know it’s unlikely, not with his friendship with Mav and relationship with Bradley. They’re going to want him involved in some way at least, even if any final decisions won’t be his because of his potential emotional investment.
… … …
Sunday morning and he’s up early enough to be going to church with his family, and instead he’s on the other side of America, dressed in Admiral Kazansky’s old khakis and pretty sure he’s about to be indoctrinated into something much higher level than he ever expected, especially given his age and rank. He’s thrumming with nerves and excitement, no idea how or why Bradley seems so calm, although he supposes he’s grown up surrounded by all this, so maybe there isn’t the additional novelty factor for him.
Hound had driven into a specific hangar, the doors opening and closing behind him automatically. Admiral Kazansky’s sedan looks so mundane in the space, and he can tell Captain Mitchell was itching to run around and check everything out and Jake can’t blame him. Wants to do the same and only his training keeping him tightly in control. He follows after Admiral Kazansky and Captain Mitchell, down corridors lined with photos and Bradley is at his side, cool as a cucumber and Jake tries to imitate him.
“Gentlemen. Welcome.”
Jake swallows, suddenly very aware that he is by far the lowest rank and also the youngest in the room. There are another eight Admirals of differing levels, and then the fucking Secretary of Defense is there, and he notes even Bradley’s steps falter. Holy shit. This is big. He already knew it was, but this is the proof and he wonders if he’s going to meet the president. Because this is something the president would know about. He follows the instruction to sit and then listens as they all talk, and he tries to follow the conversation.
What he quickly learns is that Cain is an asshole and that there are two camps of belief in the room that are being voiced. One that the Transformers should be subservient and do what they, the humans, want. Jake thinks that is laughable but keeps his mouth shut. Then there is the second camp who think that they have a partnership, are allies, with the Transformers. And okay, Jake thinks that’s more plausible at least better than the first.
However he thinks he might need to set up a third camp, where he, as a human, knows about Transformers only by their grace and any relationship they have is not based on how useful they are to each other. At least he doesn’t think so. Sure, Starscream definitely only tolerated Jake in the beginning because he was useful to him, said he’d help find Jetfire’s parts and help rebuild him, or find people that could. He feels it’s shifted a little, suspects that Starscream doesn’t exactly have a lot of experience with humans; he’s seen Bronco and Sally and Ninja now and they’ve got deep loyal streaks and it’s not entrenched in military orders at all. In fact, with Sally and Ninja he’d go so far that they like Maverick because he’s so averse to following orders. It’s something of a revelation.
“May I ask a question?” Bradley asks, and Jake has missed the last little bit of discussion and is annoyed at himself. Then Bradley simply goes ahead, clearly feeling like he’s immune to anything they could say or do and… holy shit. He guesses they sort of are. “Why are we deciding on anything when the other party who has to agree isn’t present?”
“The leader of the Autobots is going to be meeting us at the airstrip. We need to provide a united front.”
Captain Mitchell snorts and doesn’t even try to look apologetic. Admiral Cain looks annoyed simply by the fact that Captain Mitchell and Admiral Kazansky are there and he wonders if there’s a history there; scorned lover or power struggle.
“With all due respect sir, what weight do our wishes have here? We could all decide to retire from the service as soon as our current posting finishes.”
Jake slides his eyes to Bradley and then to Admiral Kazansky, because Captain Mitchell has a point, but it somehow also sounds like a threat. He doesn’t want to leave the Navy, however if they ground him? Then what’s the point? He wants to fly.
… … …
“We have a research base located in Fallon, which suits our cover story, which is that we’re sending the both of you to Top Gun. Along with Captain Mitchell. There is also some other training which isn’t so well known about which aligns with your interests.”
“A research base?”
“Where we work on understanding the Cybertron technology more in-depth.”
Bradley frowns, wonders why they simply don’t ask if it’s all meant to be a reciprocal relationship, and a quick glance shows him Mav is thinking the same thing. Ice looks almost bored, his face difficult to read in this type of context, closed off and serious. Jake is looking skeptical which is reassuring, he hopes they’re on the same page at least.
“Of course we want to utilize your skillsets for as long as you’re willing to share them with us…”
“Our what? Sir," Mav asks, the sir tacked on like an afterthought and god Bradley loves and hates him.
“Clearly there is something about the three of you which draws Transformers to you, we’d be interested to see if that is biological or –”
“You want to run tests on them?” Ice asks, his voice cold and dripping disdain and huh, this might be part of why he has the callsign he does.
“If we refuse?” Mav asks, his eyes narrowed, and Bradley is glad they’re both asking, because he feels like this is a dangerous area to start arguing with his superiors. Ice and Mav will both ensure anything that is proposed is above board and he’s so glad that they’re there right now.
“Everything is completely voluntary.”
Bradley holds back a groan, because that’s like saying breathing is voluntary, and they can stop any time.

More Transformers Spoiler thoughts...it's a jumbled mess.
1. I don't know why I didn't catch the rocks in the mines were moving on their own for the first time.
2. Also, I noticed and kept laughing way too much when someone said the word MINERS. Like I can't. It's the point where I wish there was a secondary word for it so I can stop giggling when someone on screen refers to them.
3. Silverbolt and Jetfire are in the race!!! And now gives me a shit ton of questions aside from the organic life that's on the surface of cybertron.
4. they did a close up shot of Optimus grabbing on to D-16 when he's about to go off the edge of the road. Had an ouch in the moment.
5. I wanted to watch this movie again cause someone pointed out how D-16 licks his teeth before fighting Starscream and...yeah wow one side of me appreciates small details about a character. Like think of Chihiro in Spirited away putting on her shoes and after standing up tapping the tip of her feet so the shoe feet's right before walking off. There's a lot of mini actions characters kinda do that you might miss and it's just wonderful attention to detail....and the other side of me just wanted to witness this man's tongue for myself because I did not catch it the first time. Because my first thought seeing the screenshot was...."they have tounges?" And I see it right?
I won't comment further.
6. Watching a second time had me pay way more attention to D-16's decent and inevitably to become Megatron. Cause I have seen some of the criticisms. Of maybe it coming out of nowhere or could do a bit more and yeah maybe? It felt much smoother second time around.
7. I also didn't realize Sentinel was the one who told him to "Rise Up" and not even like 10 minutes later D-16 uses it in his grand speech/as Megatron in the aftercredits. Orion making such a bad move to tell him not to be like Sentinal just ahhhh. So this reminded me of a show that did the same thing, a friend turning evil before their eyes, but despite being a good person, she says all the wrong things in the moment. Literally everything wrong.
Orion begging D-16 not to be like Sentinal is not what should even be said at the moment. It just made him more defensive and double down.
8. Facial expressions that are ingrained in my head
-B-127's face when D-16 is arguing with Oron nearly insulting B in his face.
-Orion's really sad during the second half of the movie
-Megatron's optics slightly dimming for a few seconds when Optimus tells him that he's banished from Iacon.
-Elita's change of expression when they reach the surface and Optimus looks at her though in the trailers seems romantic (knowing the history of Oplita) but it's more relief and a I told you so kind of way????
9. I like Elita more now. Her dialogue is what uplifts it for me, mostly in the realm of a supervisor in desperate need of a promotion. Idk if you work 9-5 or a nightshift that spans 10 hours her dialogue is really funny to me.
My least favorite trope is when there's just "girl that is competent and kick ass". For once, Transformers One doesn't let that bother me.
Pretty much due to all the characters having the same level of combat knowledge or scenes punching Orion because it's funny. Arguably Elita-1 doesn't heave weapons like the dudes, and is a fucking bike...and she's pink but overall it's not like there's anywhere in the film that remotely mentions any type of sexism or "girl needs to prove something". She was kinda already doing that with her job until she got fucked over.
Having at least another character relating to her goals in the movie helps too. She and D-16 emphasize wanting to rise the ranks and fear demotion/living through it.
(Now that I think about it...Elita hinting to becoming close to Optimus after Megs is more entwined in the story than I thought. It feels like a slow friend switch and then B-127 is also there).
I wanna see the movie again so I can she Elita-1 and D-16's interactions. Cause I can't think of any specific ones at the top of my head aside from the fight at the end.
10. I love B-127. I think he's a bit older given his immediate knowledge of the High Guard (idk)??? Yeah it's a gag pointing out WaveWave but I like it's his character moment where he just contributes to knowing something.

Winged Sentinel Snippet 2: Awoken.
Sentinel's optics flickered as he regained consciousness, feeling dazed. He couldn't remember anything from the last few seconds aside from wanting to be modified to be a jet. It seemed like he had gotten his wish, as he felt something on his backside. He lifted himself slightly on the examination table and turned his helm to find two wide blue wings with orange tips attached to his back.
He quickly looked for the nearest mirror He could grab to check that his optics weren't playing tricks on him only to find out from his reflection that He was now two times larger than his original size and that his body barely fit on the examination table and his helm barely touch the ceiling.
For a moment Sentinel couldn't believe it double checking his reflection in the mirror to see if this was real and even pointing his new wings with one of his servos before squeezing it.
Oh! Yep, this was real and now he knows not to do that, who would have known that wings were so sensitive?
After getting out of his brief moment of shock he spotted Perceptor in the corner of the laboratory looking down at a datapad in his servo clearly in the middle of reading something before lifting his helm and noticing that Sentinel was finally awake.
"Ah you're conscious, it seems your vital signs are running perfectly with the lack of problems in your system you are released from my laboratory to continue your training with project safeguard" spoked Perceptor putting his data pad aside as he approached the examination table.
Sentinel Prime widened his optics in surprise this was way easier than he thought it was going to be
"Really That it? No tests or anything like that" asked Sentinel a bit suspicious of the quick release.
Perceptor, emotionless as ever, simply walked through the exit door of the laboratory without any concern for Sentinel's suspension.
"Actually, according to Ultra Magnus your current training with the project Safeguard is your first test as project Vedette" spoke Perceptor. "Be prepared for it for there will be many optics watching you during this progress "
With that anonymous note, Perceptor left the room leaving Sentinel bewildered and creeped out from his words.
Did Perceptor refer to him as Project Vedette? The more Sentinel thinks about the more he wonders what in all sparks he has gotten himself into.
Despite feeling creeped out by all of this he decided to keep pushing forward after all the Jettwins still needed a mentor who could fly and who was better than him to fill that role.
With that thought Sentinel got up from the examination table ready to get out of this freaky place and show the rest of the elite guard his new form with Ultra Magnus being first on the list.
Unfortunately, He immediately forgets how big he is now, so he accidentally bumps his head against the door frame when exiting the room.
"Ow!" yelped Sentinel to himself out loud placing his servo over his slightly damaged helm. Ok noted for now on keep his helm lower when entering or existing rooms.
__________________________________________________________________________________
In the mass hall, Jetstrom was checking Jetfire anxiously searching for any damages from their previous failed attempt in the air while Jazz stood in the corner watching the twins.
"Jetstorm it's ok, I'm fine for the last time" spoked Jetfire in concern since he had never seen his brother so anxious before since usually, they are on the same page on everything including their emotions.
Jetstrom signed a bit before lowering his helm almost in shame that he not thinking exactly like his brother.
"well...I know. But can you transform back to a jet just in case" gulped Jetstorm with a wave of anxiety over his helm.
Jetfire wanting to make his brother feel better nodded before transforming into his vehicle mode making Jetstrom sigh in relief while Jazz still in the corner quickly looked away in uneasy.
Jazz never liked it when either of the twins transformed into this vehicle mode since he always expected a grounded vehicle, not two jets that always put him on edge and reminded him of those old war videos where con jets would bomb whole buildings from the air with bots still inside of them.
those videos would consistently play on repeat every time he glanced at the twins that he would occasionally need to take deep breaths to keep himself from getting freaked out which is exact the reason why he prefers hanging around Sentinel over these two.
Sure, Sentinel can be a bit hard to deal with but at least Jazz felt comfortable around another grounded vehicle, and he does genuinely care for the prime finding him amusing at times.
After Jetstorm finished checking Jetfire for damages, Jetfire transformed back into his robot mode once it was clear the orange twin was undamaged. Suddenly, the three mechs heard another mech approaching the training grounds. It was Ultra Magnus, accompanied by a large mech wearing a red cloth that covered most of his body.
"Wait a minute, is that SP?" thought Jazz to himself. But before he could take a closer look at the hooded mech, Ultra Magnus began speaking to the three.
"Jazz, Jetfire, and Jetstorm met project Vedette" he announced stepping aside to properly reveal the big hooded mech behind him.
The mech dramatically removed the cloth covering him and to Jazz's absolute horror, shock and concern the mech was none other than Sentinel Prime himself with wings on his back.
With a proud smirk on his face, Sentinel asked, "So, what do you think?" He was showing off his wings as if they were nothing to be ashamed of. Jetfire and Jetstorm stare at Sentinel in astonishment for a brief moment before their optics widen into pure admiration at the sight of their Prime having wings just like them.
"Sentinel sir, you're just like us!" squealed Jetfire and Jetstorm at the time in same time although Jetstorm seemed a bit slower to copy his brother which Sentinel did notice but didn't think much of at the moment
Jazz's reaction to Sentinel on the other hand felt like he was about to throw up, he couldn't believe Sentinel would do this to himself and he needed to gently convince Sentinel to step away from this before he got himself in trouble.
"Huh Ultra Magnus mind if me and Sp chat a bit" whispers Jazz nervous to Mangus "You know privately"
Ultra Magnus raised his nonexistent eyebrow before nodding his helm to Jazz "Very well"
With Ultra Magnus's approval, Jazz placed a servo on Sentinel's shoulder and pulled him to the side away from everyone else.
"Huh, Sp..do you want to....be...You know be like...you know...Them" asked Jazz nervously eyeing the Jettwins before fully facing Sentinel with his faceplate.
Sentinel blinked for a bit wondering what Jazz meant by that since the cool head never sounded so judgmental. Condescending? Well, it wasn't either of those since there was a clear undertone of deep concern there.
"What do you mean by being like them?" asked Sentinel squinting his optics in annoyance at Jazz's words.
Jazz noticed Sentinel's annoyance in an instant backtracked from his own words, not wanting to turn this whole thing into a big deal or anything like that.
"Huh Nothing! It's just that well you know...you've never been in the air before Sp" gulped Jazz in force trying to avoid confrontation at all costs. "Do you think you could handle it?"
"Of course, I can handle it" responded Sentinel crossing his arms and taking Jazz's words as a little challenge before snickering a bit "I mean seriously how hard is it not to hit the ground "
Jazz could think of serval ways this could end poorly yet he didn't want to argue or say it against Sentinel since that wasn't his style, so he decided to let the prime do his thing and hope it doesn't go too far.
"Well, if you say so sp" signed Jazz turning his head downward and praying to the all-spark that Sentinel doesn't get himself killed.
"Well, now if you don't mind, I have soldiers to train," spoke Sentinel, puffing up his chestplate before walking over to Jetfire and Jetstorm for their first training session as jets together.
Oh, Scrap what has Sentinel gotten himself into??

So Shattered Glass is a thing for Transformers, who doesn’t love a good old alternate universe where the bad guys are good and vice versa.
And the color pallets don’t need to be the same thing either! We get some nice different color schemes that fit the characters new personalities!
We got Starscream, his colors being swapped out for Sky/Jetfire’s colors very nice very nice! It’s also very fitting with his character, it’s simple and sleek just like him!
Next is Skywarp! Also very nice! It feels a lot like a slightly darker Thundercracker color scheme, it’s dark but not dark compared to his original design. I like it! Very nice!
Now what about Thundercracker? Surely after two banger designs, the third member of this iconic trine would get a color scheme as good as these tw-!
……. Thundercracker…. What have they done?
Seriously! The poor boy looks like they threw every gaudy color at him! It doesn’t even feel coherent! It’s how I would have colored an OC back when I was 5…
This boy needed some help, I ranted about this to both friends and family, how Thundercracker was robbed of a good color swap and also THEY KEPT HIS OPTICS RED!! Every other Decepticon with red optics had theirs changed to blue! And sure! The 2021 comic made his blue, but now his optics just blend into his blue face and every other promotional image I’ve seen of him he has red optics! Ughhhh
With this rant in my head refusing to let me sleep, I challenged myself. I drew Thundercracker twice. One version was that I kept the same colors as his current design and try to see if I could make it more appealing to my tastes, the second version was what I would have chosen if I had been in charge of Thundercracker’s SG coloration.
Keep in mind though, I had colored these in with copic markers, so the colors may not be accurate for the first version.
So yeah! That’s my take on SG! Thundercracker. I know that it’s a weird thing to get upset about, I just can’t stand poor Thundercracker being done dirty by such a gaudy color scheme. If you like his original color scheme for SG then more power to you! It was just not my cup of tea.

I'm going to be running a pistol competition with some friends. Some of them have airsoft pistols, but for those who don't I have a collection of strange options
^ The worst option! Six rounds and a long reload with the Mateba 2006M
^ The slightly better Waeboomer 1911! Fit only for the biggest dorks, but I have three magazines.
^ The polymer pick, A Glock 17 Gen 4, which I personally dislike. It also shoots hot as hell and I only have the one magazine.
^ The obvious best choice, a CZ-75, reliable and accurate with 5 magazines.
^ I take back what I said about the Mateba, this is the worst choice. Technically a pistol in that it can be operated with the stock folded.
Not pictured is the Beretta Jetfire, which is honestly a surprisingly good pick. I have two magazines and it is more accurate than you would think.

Slightly weird ship, but I ship TFA Grimlock and Jetfire, and I think Grimlock has a huge spike that Jetfire definitely likes to get fucked with. I also think Grimlock and Jetfire have a bit of a pregnancy kink, and that Jetfire got pregnant right after they got conjunxed. Jetfire is content and is okay with being too pregnant with a big T-rex baby to fly. Grimlock spoils him rotten, and satisfies every whim (and I mean, every whim - wink wonk) his queen has. Jetstorm and Swoop get grossed out by how in love they are.
Ooh I've seen this ship before I think. I like it.
Grimlock spoiling Jetfire absolutely rotten after he gets sparked is adorable to picture. He gets his Conjunx anything. Anything. Cravings? Neediness? Massages? Anything. He carries Jetfire around on his back when he's too big to walk comfortably. They're that type of couple that goes all out on PDA.
Meanwhile, in private, Grimlock satisfies Jetfire with his spike in every way he wants. Jetfire loves how he stretches his valve. Plus, as his belly grows, his neediness does too, and Grimlock's always willing to help him with that.

Okay before I go to bed, my reactions to Void Rivals #1.
I don't want to approach this as A Transformers Comic, really, because that seems unfair. Kirkman is writing a new property that works WITH Transformers, is my read on this, and I want to try and approach this on its own terms. So with that in mind...
...this issue is paced in such a way it is staggeringly obvious it exists as a vehicle for the twist that Transformers is happening. I am not familiar with Kirkman's comics, so can't speak to if this pacing is common for him. But it's a slow start, if an occasionally atmospheric one. (Art's great. That title splash? Gorgeous.) The in media res approach is a solid choice, but it quickly becomes a matter of narrative redundancy; we re-establish that our two new leads are mistrustful due to their longstanding war and cultural norms surrounding it but have to cooperate and know it it a good, oooh, three or so times, which feels very odd on first read. Rather than simply slow the pace down so it only happens once toward the climax of the issue, going for more of a decompressed pacing, we spin our wheels stretching out the beat in a way that feels kind of weird, seemingly to fill the pages.
For a comic with only two people in a dead wasteland setting, it lacks both narrative efficiency (you could fit twice the amount of building-a-dynamic work in here) and a sense of sparse, lingering atmosphere build up (a slower pace with less talking could sell more isolation, paranoia and tension).
Why? Because the climax doesn't have space for the culmination to be 'and now they realise they have to work together', so it has to be sorted towards the start. But then there's nothing much to do in the middle, so it all gets stretched.
And the reason that can't be the climax is of course that the discovery of Jetfire is that. It's a great setup for this kind of twist conceptually- so obvious I predicted it without needing more than a solicit and his promo art. That's because it fits! But then he unexpectedly leaves, and I realised the setup probably wasn't to integrate him into this comic as an entrance into what role the crossover has here. It's to set up his story, I think, in the Transformers ongoing in October. That he's missed the war while out cold on this planet. (It is a fun use of the G1 cartoon story in a new context.) Which makes the end of this comic feel less... anything? If Jetfire was staying as the surprise third character, a fish out of water they needed to persuade to help them, that would have helped justify the prior meandering, I think. But he leaves, and the sense is that the comic only goes the way it does to set up another comic. Our actual protagonists then continue basically unaffected, so really, what does it matter, and was it worth meandering?
(Sidenote: imagine, a Cybertronian audience surrogate with humanoid alien protagonists! I want it. Maybe one way or another we'll fet it down the line. A nice twist.)
Maybe I'll be wrong and Jetfire will be back next issue- but if so, this comic failed to set up narrative expectations well.
It sounds like I hate it. I don't! It's got some interesting ideas, though exposition is slightly forced and dialogue is a bit clunky IMO. I like the basic concept. The ending where they take off their helmets is... we'll see where he's going with this I guess. But it feels like an 'issue zero', a possible prequel to two comics in one? Frankly, doing this AS a one-off prequel might have been wise, idk. A before-the-launch thirty page special or something. As the first issue of Void Rivals, it feels hijacked and unfocused; as the set up for Transformers, it feels a bit tortured, as much as I do still like the whole idea of starting it off in a non-TF book if you are going to do a crossover universe. (Really dig into the idea the universe continues around their war!)
Also, it truly just expects you to know who Jetfire is. Like, not just what Transformers is. Who he is. I'm surprised by that. As a way to hook non-TF readers, an overt reference to a single episode of the G1 cartoon most non-fans likely don't remember even if they saw it? Seems kinda deep cut. The whole thing revolves around knowing that this is him being someone who has missed the war. Hmmm.
Anyway. I'm interested to see how this pans out. Especially since the announced writer for the TF ongoing suggests this is definitely gonna be a war story.

Transformers: Mosaic #240 - "Ambition"
Originally posted on September 8th, 2008
Story, Art - Sarabeth Collins
deviantART | TFW2005 | BotTalk
wada sez: Here, Sarabeth presents Transformers Animated incarnation of Skyfire, drawing from his connection to Starscream seen in the ‘80s episode “Fire in the Sky”. An actual Animated Jetfire, conceptually totally unrelated, would later appear in “Where Is Thy Sting?”. See below the break for Collins’ original script.
Transformers: MOSAIC “Ambition” Starscream (Animated) By Sarabeth Collins
[1] Starscream is sitting alone in a cell onboard the Elite Guard’s ship. His head is hanging low, looking at the floor. Mood is dark, room is dark, with just the light glow of the cell bars (Energon/electrical?).
Starscream: (thoughts narrative) A long time ago, an old friend told me that my ambitious streak would be the death of me. At the time, I ignored the comment, thinking it nothing more than a jealous remark from someone weak…someone who had not been chosen</p>
[2] Profile-view of Starscream, silhouette profile of someone else (back to back) with blue glowing optics. Silhouette profile looks like a TFA-stylized Skyfire (G1 Sunbow). (Note: I know Jetfire is slated to show up in the cartoon, but Skyfire could easily be seen as a different character entirely. As he is not shown in full in this script, continuity should not be affected.)
Autobot: (flashback voice) Everything youve worked for will be jeopardized, Starscream. Are you willing to risk it all?
Starscream: I’ll risk everything.
[3] Starscream covers his forehead with his hand, expression grim. Autobot silhouette just behind and off to the side, optics glowing blue.
Autobot: (flashback voice) Then you’re a fool. Nothing good can come from this. You’re just throwing your life away.
Starscream: Slag it. Leave me alone…
Autobot: You’re just going to end up offline in a scrap heap, Starscream.
[4] Starscream, still covering his forehead, grins menacingly. There is a light glow from the Allspark fragment peeking through his fingers. Autobot optics behind him narrow sadly and he has faded slightly.
Starscream: Been there…Done that. Starscream: Going back for more.
[5] Starscream stands, looking determined to escape, Allspark fragment glowing brightly. Autobot silhouette in similar stance, only his head is lowered and looking away from Starscream. He has faded to little more than a shadow.
Starscream: (thoughts-narrative) An old friend once told me my ambition would be the death of me. I wonder what he’d think of me now?
[Continued in TFA episode "Fistful of Energon"]

I have slowly been falling in love with the idea that the idea of being a 'parent' is a relatively young concept for Cybertronians.
[Rambling continues, slightly more organised, below the cut]
context
In my mind, Idyllic is set at a point within Cybertron’s history where ‘youngling’ is seen as a genuine lifestage — as opposed to it being seen as an ‘adult in smaller armour’.
It is also set at a point where new Cybertronians are made either via assembly, spark-bonding, a variation of the two, or a derivative of one or the other.
The Actuary of Cybertron, Vector Sigma, has long stopped producing new bodies (and sparks). The various hotspots/wells are depleted, and are unlikely to rejuvenate.
difference in responsibility
Cybertronians are pretty hardy. In the distant past, they raised themselves as soon as they came alive — then made on a set schedule by Vector Sigma to populate Cybertron.
After Vector Sigma came the hotspots. Cities formed around them — until the hotspots dried up. By this point, guardianships sprung up in the form of apprenticeships.
These apprenticeships essentially were “I’ll show you how to do this job so you can fend for yourself”. Over time, as public morals shifted, these apprenticeships morphed into mentorships.
Mentorships were ... a bit different. There was more responsibility involved, but the amount differed from mentor to mentor. Some were very involved, others were hands-off to the point where it was more of an apprenticeship and others still were at neither extreme.
But in any case, we can define the two — (1) apprenticeships and (2) mentorships based on the perceived amount of responsibility. Where (1) is less responsibility compared to (2).
In my head, I imagine there's a great body of caselaw surrounding this distinction, but alas ... the legal talk is not the focus of this ramble.
Point is: mentorship evolved into the familial relationships experienced in the time of Idyllic. It is worth noting that this is just a general overview; the change from apprenticeship → mentorship → parental caretakers happened differently depending on the locality and culture.
It is why, even though the adults in Idyllic are about the same age in Idyllic, they had vastly different experiences growing up.
Vosian fliers tend to have large communities — the shift was especially quick for them, and so Starscream grew up with three parental figures.
Elita and Optimus grew up in Tarn. As one of the more industrial city-states, apprenticeships were the norm for both of them.
Prowl, being from Praxus, which is culturally similar to Vos, was much the same as Starscream.
But I want to focus on Skyfire especially.
skyfire + his mentor
Skyfire emerged from a well that was thought to have been completely depleted, around the time when the general Cybertronian attitude shifted from apprenticeship → mentorship.
His mentor, Novarian, was already an older mech by this point. He himself was raised under an apprenticeship. Adding to the matter was the fact that Novarian's career meant he was very socially isolated — and him taking in Skyfire meant Skyfire, too, was isolated in this way.
(As an aside, if you remember the name ‘Novarion Helix’ ... you have known this account for a bit too long.)
When Skyfire was around Aphelion's age, he was already used to calling his mentor by his name (‘Novarion’ or simply ‘Mentor’) versus an affectionate title (‘Ardi’). Their relationship is decidedly not familial in the usual sense.
By the time Novarion was entrusted with Jetfire's care, the new attitude of “younglings need to be parented” still had not influenced him.
And to be honest, Skyfire did most of the emotional aspects of raising his brother — adult!Skyfire remained resentful over it for ... quite a while.
I do think the little trio (Skyfire, Jetfire and Novarian) have patched things up. But I do also think certain habits die hard.
#transformers#tf skyfire#binary rambles#i say this to say: skyfire has a complicated relationship with his mentor/sire/caretaker#very complex for Aphelion anyways#fic: idyllic#headcanons

had some thoughts on this and getting a spiralling-down-in-to-madness hole because they are stick in place in a way
things are changing around them but THEY have not been able to change. Day in, Day Out. No ability to get up and about. No way of moving themselves. Just witnessing and sensing the same things over and over and over as the days and nights pass by quickly.
No way of talking to anything or anyone (let's say it's gotten bad that not only are they stuck in their alt mode but they cannot speak because something as gone wrong)
perhaps it is a nice mix of horror and madness
Exactly!
They're stuck, but everything else isn't
(I'm kinda reminded of bayverse Jetfire tbh?)
Imagining Soundwave getting stuck in his tapedeck form in the eighties, and he's thoroughly stuck. His altmode works... at first. But he can't transform or talk. I've thought about him somehow-ing his way into a human home before but this way is slightly horrifying because he's stuck for years, decades, as the human world changes around him. I've thought of that before.
