24. Sleepy Kiss

Since leaving the side of the woman, it felt as though these dumb dreams had returned with an extra dose of vengeance - if he didn't know better, he'd insist that Oei was behind these darn nightmares, but with the curse now gone, him blessed by the anemo archon himself...he doubted she'd be able to influence him so easily from so far away...but that did little to ease the ache that burned within his chest. Sighing, he turned slightly to his side, a small smile forming as he came face to face with the woman that had saved him in so many different ways. How peaceful she looked when sleeping too - like she didn't have a care in the world, as though the pressures to weigh them down were simply a ghost of the past. To think, for all those years, he hated wakening - he hated being reminded that he was still alive...and now, so many years later, these had to be one of his favourite time of the day.

Just to lay there, watching over Taru, thinking how darn lucky they were to meet one another...and just losing himself in her beauty for a few greedy moments. He would never tire of this moment. His nightmares had long since faded from his thoughts now, a hand reaching over to gently brush some hair from Taru's face, smiling as she started to stir slightly beneath his touch. "Good morning", he whispered, pulling himself closer to her warmth, his lips brushing gently against her own as he whispered his greeting, "I love you", he finished, pressing his lips gently against her own, his arm wrapping around her waist gently, cuddling her close to his chest as he curled around her happily, a few more lazy kisses pressed against her warm lips.

Both Amadeus and Eiji gazed after her as she walked away, sharing a confused expression, the map on the table all but forgotten about as they attempted to make some sense of what had just happened. Was that Taru's attempt at making a joke? "...that was..." "Weird", Amadeus finished for him, slowly pushing his chair back from the table as he tried to think on how was best to respond - it shouldn't just go unencouraged! It was good that Taru was trying to let out her more playful side - it showed she was comfortable around them both, right? "I'll be right back". He hurried off into their room, half tackling Taru to the bed, "Rawr!", he grinned, "That's how it's done!".

Even if he remained loyal to the Abyss Order - that didn't stop him from gaining other enemies, mainly those from the cult of the Golden Witch, Oei's followers, who saw him as nothing more than a traitor - not that it really mattered, of course, but when he was caught off guard like this... Or maybe he'd simply been feeling under the weather for far longer than he wished to admit. Breaking a contract with a Goddess came with all the complications that had been promised, and keeping the effects hidden from Venti and Taru left him feeling rather exhausted - so maybe that played into as to why he hadn't realised he was being targeted, now until the blade had already struck against the side of his arm, as blood had dripped to the grass, a shield instantly popping around his form as Eiji and Taru had both leapt to his defence, even before he'd really taken the time to realise what had just occurred.

"...sorry...I didn't even sense them..." "Did you have to kill them!?", Eiji sighed, kneeling next to the body and checking for a pulse, "If they were still alive we could have found out what they were after" "...", Amadeus sighed lightly, glancing between the twins for a second, before giving a small shrug, "It's just someone that's loyal to Oei. There's no doubt more of them looking for me. Trust me, they'd rather be killed than to fail and return to her side..."

WHAT DO YOU MEAN ?

Although they had separate beds, it wasn't really that often that they would remain within them. Tonight, a storm was the 'excuse' as to why they laid curled up in Taru's bed, Amadeus holding her close to his chest as his fingers lazily played with the end of her hair, a gentle kiss having been placed to the top of her head, when her tired mumbles had reached him, Amadeus chuckling softly. He enjoyed this side to her, enjoyed knowing that it was only him who would ever witness just how soft she could become.

"Well, how could I possibly say no?", he hummed happily, leaning in and placing a gentle kiss on her lips, pressing close for a few seconds, his body shifting to curl around her form a little more, before he pulled back with a small smile, "Sleep well Taru. I'll be right here with you".
