Alright let's try this Soulmate body switch AU I'm also attempting this whole "make a tag" thing... bare with me, ive only actually used this app for like 4 days now im gonna go with "RayMakesSoulmates" for now... uhm, idk what else to go with uhhhhh yeah, names Ray btw...
Okay here we go. The idea of switching bodies is something a bit strange to me so let me make this work for me.
Basically it happens once a year after you either turn 17 or meet your soulmate. If its the latter then there has to be alot of turmoil and confusion on one side to trigger the first switch because it does not happen at the first encounter. However after the first encounter you'll sometimes have little blurry dreams that are in fact core memories of your soulmate. But theyre always too blurry to point out who's involved and sounds are too muffled to pin point any specific noises words or what have you.
Now, the dreams don't happen every night but they happen often enough that you are made aware that you have met your soulmate at some point recently.
So after Zuko visits the south and they begin their cat and mouse game around the world Zuko often has blurry dreams of white with black falling what he thinks is people screaming and what he knows is muffled crying. While Sokka has random dreams of what he thinks is someone moving away into the darkness and someone screaming out to them but he can't figure out what they're saying. Another dream he has is a blurry glow of bright blue and crying. There's also one that shows up more often than the other two, its when he sees what he believes is someone moving towards him saying something, but its muffled, then a bright light and muffled screaming and crying.
However after Ba Sing Se Sokka has a dream that's clear and vivid, not muffled and not blurry. After he takes a moment from shooting up to a sitting position he realizes that this is not a dream, he's switched bodies. Standing up and moving the blankets off of him he looks around and sees the there are fire nation items everywhere, it looks like he's in a royal bedroom. He elects to keep calm as he moves towards where he thinks is a bathroom, he is correct and when he looks into the mirror he freezes. His heart drops into his stomach. Sokka can hardly believe what he's looking at. Staring back at him is not his face, but Zuko's. He reaches up to touch the scar on Zuko's face. While yes he has control over his body and he doesn't exactly know how to act 'firenation' let alone 'fire nation royalty' he stands straight. "This won't last longer than 3 hours." He reminds himself
"What won't last longer than three hours?" Azula's voice breaks through
Instantly on edge and irritated Sokka- ahem Zuko turns to Azula "what do you want Azula?" He says in a voice thats much less irritated, theyre siblings right? So they have to be chummy right
"Oo! You sound so much less angry!" She muses "disgusting, anyways, Mai wanted me to let you know she's leaving today"
Why would he care about that? Oh they must be friends? Maybe they're dating? Okay, don't screw this up "uh, okay"
"Aw don't be so sad Zuzu~ you two would have never worked out anyways, her and Ty Lee switched bodies just three days ago. It was honestly was kind of amusing watching her string you along" This is not how siblings normally talk to eachother. He just glared at Azula "alright alright sheesh, ill leave you alone" he found something to write on and quickly jotted down the conversation because if he was given that information Zuko would need it.
Meanwhile Zuko shot awake and found himself lying next to appa Katara and Aang, so he is alive huh? Confused he figured he must be dreaming until he realized his vision was clear and nothing was muffled. He was below deck on a fire nation ship. He paused a moment before he stood and noticed Sokka's boomerang beside him. He lifed it and saw Sokka in the reflection. His reaction seemed to mirror(haha get it) Sokka's when he saw Zuko in the mirror. But he dropped the boomerang and it made a loud bang which woke the other two up "Sokka what are you doing, the sun is barely up"
He paused and cleared his throat. Okay, sure he's been chasing them he needs to not blow this "uh, sorry, nightmare"
Katara shifted and turned to him, a genuine look of worry in her eyes "do you want to talk about it?" She asked in a tone that reminded him of his mother. Genuine love.
He forced himself not to tear up at the memory and just shook his head "no, I honestly can't remember it. Just scared me is all" the hesitation in Katara's expression before she responded was strange to him
"Alright, if you say so, do you mind going and asking dad to change the course? We need to stop and get supplies"
His hesitation and expression probably made her realize what happened "okay, youre not Sokka right now are you?" He froze and nodded slowly "alright, you dont have to tell me who you are, but I'll help you through the motions, Aang and I switched back in Ba Sing Se, that was the day when you questioned why I said I'd fly around, er- or that was when Sokka questioned me" okay she was a little more accepting of this than he thought.
"Uhm, okay, yeah, right, uhm, I don't want to blow this so can you just uh show me around? I'm sure Sokka knows all the people he's- oh agni he's gonna meet my dad" zuko internally cringed.
In that moment it seemed to click with Katara "alright, so you're telling me your Zuko"
Zuko flinched and backed up against the wall "look I dont know what you want me to do about this, but I promise you that I'm not going to ruin anything, I know I messed up, hell Sokka's probably noticing that my family doesn't work like yours does. I've been so confused my whole life okay, I'm sorry I betrayed you in Ba Sing Se, my sister has a way of manipulating me. I just hope he doesn't get hurt, he probably doesn't know he needs to keep his mouth shut in my family." Zuko was panicking when Katara reached out
"Zuko, zuko what do you mean?" Her voice shaky
"Look I cant tell you everything, I cant tell you my life story not right now, I need to get through with this. If we meet again, which I hope we do, ill tell you then. But right now, please just show me what Sokka goes through day to day. I know he's not gonna like what happens on the other end, I just hope it doesn't go too bad."
Katara nodded "alright well. Let me walk you around and let you learn the peoples names, ill just say hi to them and say their names." She paused "but first, tell me about your mother, i dont know if I believe it anymore"
He sighed before telling her the entire story.
Meanwhile at the palace Sokka was sitting in a war meeting knowing to keep his mouth shut unless spoken to. He didnt want to set people off or let them know he wasn't actually Zuko. The topic of the earth kingdome came up and Ozai turned to him "Zuko, you've spent time among the Earth kingdom citizens. What information do you have?"
"Uh, the Earth kingdoms citizens are strong willed and hopeful, as long as they have hope they will not yeild"
"Hmmm, I see, we need to crush their hope"
"Well, thats not what I-"
"I think we should take their precious hope and burn it to the ground!" Azula cuts in
"Yes, yes good idea Azula" Oh no
About an hour after the meeting the switch flipped, Sokka made notes about everything that he found important in time before the switch was over.
After they switched back Sokka found his sister and grabbed her shoulders "Katara, I have to tell you something, I just got back from a body swit-"
"And your soulmate is Zuko? I know, he cried when I was nice to him, what happened on your end?"
"Well, his whole family is mean to him"
"Figured"
"I was in a war meeting and found out their plan for the comet"
After relaying the information he found they discussed it with Aang.
Let's skip ahead to after the failed invasion and to the air temple when Zuko shows up.
"Hello, Zuko here"
No fighting it in this one
"Get your jerk bender butt over here" Katara and Sokka said practically in unison.
>im gonna wrap it up here. And yes Katara would notice its not Sokka and would totally pick up on Zuko, she's observant
>and no Azula wouldn't notice at all because she's used to Zuko being stand offish with her. Plus Sokka is so much better at impersonations than Zuko

Gonna tag some Luther-positive blogs: @lonelyboy-in-space @umbrellawhumpslut @queerhargreeves @umbrella-babies @protect-luther-hargreeves @001-spaceboy @justletmeremember @martiansourcream
Luther knew that he was his sibling's least favorite. It was common knowledge. Diego was the rebel, Allison was the the pretty one, Klaus was the jokester, Luther was the Annoying one. Annoying, overbearing, selfish, rude, and mean. That's what his siblings thought of him.
He sat in his bathroom, staring at his reflection in the broken mirror. A monster. That's what Diego had called him. He was right, of course. Daddy's perfect little soldier never questioned him and that's how he became a monster. An ugly, hairy, horrible monster.
Shards of glass lay on the counter and floor, long since broken by his fist. He thought of the moon, about how lonely and yet beautiful it was. He may have been lonely, but his family didn't have to deal with him. He had hurt everyone. Ben died in his arms, Five vanished. He had hurt Vanya.
He picked up a glass shard and pressed it to his skin. They would be better off without him anyways, right? ------------------------------
"LUTHER! MOM WANTS YOU DOWNSTAIRS!" Diego yelled up the stairs. After getting no answer, he ran up and walked to his door. "LUTHER!"
He turned the door handle, entering his brother's room. He saw glass and model rockets covering the floor. "Luther?"
Diego picked one of the model rockets up off the floor, then noticed the bathroom door ajar down the hall. He stood up slowly and crept towards the bathroom. He came face to face with a scene out of a horror movie. The sound of shattering wood filled the air as the model rocket fell out of his hand.
"Oh my Gd." ----------------------
When Diego had called for their help, the other five didn't expect to find their "eldest" brother lying in a pool of his own blood. Now, Grace was patching up Luther's self-inflicted wounds, and the other six were sitting, trying their individual bests not to cry.
Vanya leaned on Ben's shoulder, silent sobs racking her shoulders. Klaus had his face buried in his hands, smudging his eyeliner, and Five was lying on Allison's lap, eyes tightly shut. Diego sat by himself, staring blankly at his blood-covered hands.
Luther layed on the cot, looking strangely at peace, considering the events taking place. He was breathing softly, mouth ajar, and his siblings took comfort in the rise and fall of his chest. Grace finished wrapping up the last wound, laying a gentle hand on his brow, and let artificial tears slip down her cheeks. What was that saying again? No mother should outlive their child? Grace had lived that before with Ben's death, and came close with Five. Now she had just narrowly dodged losing another.
By the time Luther's eyes fluttered open, Five, Vanya, Ben, and Klaus were asleep, leaving Allison and Diego watching over their siblings. His first reaction was panick. 'Can't I do anything right?' He thought bitterly as He tried ripping the IV out of his arm. Diego's head snapped up and he rushed to his brother's aid. "No, no don't do that! You're gonna hurt yourself!"
'Thats kind of the point, Diego.' Luther mused, glaring darkly at him. Allison quickly roused the others, who quickly ran to his side. They all sat in a quiet relief, thanking powers that they didn't believe in for their brother's quick recovery.
No-one really knew what to say, so they didn't say anything for a while. Vanya, unable to stand the uncomfortable silence anymore, said softly, "Lu, can I ask you why?"
Luther looked at her, eyes filled with anxiety and dejection. He ran his hand over his face, and sighed deeply. "I- I just...." His eyes filled with tears, and Ben grabbed his hand and held it with a firm, yet ghostlike grip. "You know you can tell us anything, we just wanna help you."
After a moment, Luther finally spoke up again. "I just, can't anymore. I've done nothing but hurt you, all of you! I hurt Vanya, I locked her up, she needed my help, and I- I wasn't watching Klaus at that party, and he DIED! Ben died, on my watch! I did so much, and then there was that thing with that woman, and with Dad, I just......" at this point his quiet tears had turned into loud weeping."Diego was right, I am a monster." He mumbled through his tears.
"Luther, I was wrong. I was lashing out an-and angry, I'm s-sorry. You're not a monster! You're the best brother we could ask for, and we l-love you!"
Allison nodded in agreement. "Before the divorce, all that Claire would talk about is how cool her Uncle Luther was. She would brag to all the kids at her Pre-School that her uncle was a superhero who lived in space. She's always wante to meet you,"
His family's statements seemed to make his crying worse. Ben tightened his grip on his hand and said, "Luther, me dying? That wasn't your fault. It was on me, and I can never thank you enough for being there for me when I died. We all know you love us, and we love you. Never doubt that again."
Vanya sat on the cot and buried her head into her sobbing brother's shoulder. One by one, the others joined her. "It's okay to cry, we're here for you. We always will be."
Grace walked in the door, having made hot cocoa for all of her children. She put the tray on the counter and sat beside them. Luther looked at her, tears subsiding, and smiled softly. She returned the smile and kissed his forehead. She roused her children from their group-hug and handed out the cocoa. They all sat in a comfortable silence, still leaning on their brother. They may not be okay now, but they would get there, helping each other through it all.

time’s arrow {Roger Taylor}
Anon asked: Hi, I love your roger/ben imagines so much and was wondering if you could do some angst with Roger x female, maybe they are good friends and she sees him with another. Whatever you would like! Thank you x :)
A/N: 2727 words. A story told through Seasons. I took a little bit of liberties with the prompt, if that’s okay? This hit me like a lightning bolt and I had to write it. Angst with a happy ending. (I’m just trying to show I’ve got versatility in writing, okay?)
Warnings: Implied sex.
You meet him in Spring, before it all begins, he sits up the back of your Intro to Head and Neck Anatomy lectures, the only class with open spots available by the time you were looking for a science credit. You find out he’s in a band three weeks into the first class, finally going to the local bar, sick of cramming your brain full of information you’re not even sure is necessary for your degree. He grins at you and wow okay, you didn’t even think he’d recognise you.
“You’re in, um,” he’s leaning against the bar next to you in this dimly lit pub, grabbing a drink between sets. Faltering for a moment, his eyes travel down before you clear your throat, angry at yourself for blushing, but his smile widens, “my class.” He finishes, taking a sip of his beer. You agree, rolling your eyes at him, but even that seems to amuse him. He asks your name. The guitarist is calling him over, setting up for the next set, but you tell him before he leaves. Something tightens in your chest when, later that night, he catches your eyes mid-song, his look of intense focus shifting for a moment as he grins, giving you a wink.
He takes to sitting next to you in lectures, chewing the end of his pencil and taking occasional notes in a falling apart notebook that looks as though he uses it for every class. You catch lyrics in the margins and at the bottom of some pages, but he’s cagey about that in a strange way, just says you’ll have to come to a gig to find out what they’re about. So you do.
Gigs become a regular for you, and you start to become friends with the girls who frequent the shows, often hosting predrinks in your dorm room for Mary and her friends on a Friday night. You learn on one of those nights that at least two of the girls have hooked up with him, and there’s a strange, sinking sensation in your chest. You’re not sad, or at least, you tell yourself you shouldn’t be. You and Roger are just friends, it’s not like there’s anything going on there, sure, sometimes after a really good show he’ll give you a pash, but it’s- that’s just him.
It’s not like you’ve never thought about it, but you also know his reputation, and that it’ll do more harm than good to get involved with that. He’s the one mistake you don’t think you want to make.
It’s Summer, a few years later, when they trade in the van to get money to hire the recording studio. Roger had really loved that van, and he lay on your sofa for a solid hour grumbling about it, about how Freddie had some kind of nerve. You roll your eyes at him, call him a drama queen, which he takes offence to, but moves obligingly when you sit down, letting him rest his head in your lap.
When you raise the point that it might be worth it, he looks frankly aghast, griping about how he has to catch lifts everywhere now. He calms down somewhat when you start carding your fingers through his hair, though he still pouts.
“If it comes to it, I’ll buy you a car, you baby.” You snort, despite the fact that you’re currently barely making a living wage on some retail job, it’s not where you’d thought you’d be after university, but sometimes that’s just how it is. He looks up at you, and when you look down at him, he’s looking very intense. Perhaps he might say something poignant about your offer, you think, but instead he reaches up and pokes your nose.
“I can see up your nostrils.” He tells you, and you smack his hand away, scowling. You stand abruptly, ignoring his complaints, smoothing your pants out against your thighs.
“Come on,” you offer your hand, which he regards with both confusion and a bit of disdain, “you can’t mope around my apartment and complain about the band again. We’re going out.” That gets his interest.
You’ve been to bars with him before, and usually you go home alone while he gets the pick of the prettiest girls of the night, or he decides to wingman you, which hurts your heart a little, but you won’t decline. You were attractive in your own right, you won’t deny that, you didn’t technically need his help, but a selfish part of you likes the way the attention to you, even if it’s to help you get with other people.
Tonight is different, tonight he doesn’t leave your side, he slings an arm around you as the two of you stand by the bar watching the truly mediocre band they had on that night.
“You know why they aren’t recording an album?” You ask as the set ends.
“Because they didn’t sell their van?” Roger mused, vaguely bitter, but not melancholy as he swirled the last of his drink in his free hand.
“No, it’s because they’re terrible.” Turning, you smile at your own blunt remark, and when he looks back at you, he’s grinning with a little disbelief. There’s very little space between the two of you, but that doesn’t make your heart race anymore, he’s your best friend, close contact was part of the bargain. But he kissed you, quickly, without warning, and when he pulls back, he turns away to order another drink like nothing had happened.
Your mind is spiralling, this isn’t post-gig excitement, this wasn’t something you were expecting. The selfish creature in your chest that you tried to deny for so long was crowing with victory. Taking a quick look around the bar, you don’t recognise anyone, though there are a few girls who look like they’d be his type- but his hand is moving to wrap around your waist as he turns back.
“What was that?” Voice quiet, you take his drink and have a sip of it yourself, the movement done from muscle memory alone. He raises his eyebrows at you, not regarding the drink, that was a usual occurrence, but at the question. He doesn’t seem to know how to answer, baffled at the question. Dropping you gaze, you take a sip of your own drink. “Why me? Why tonight?” You asked. Looking incredulous, he stepped back, looking you over.
“Have you seen yourself tonight, love? Couldn’t help myself.” You’ve heard him talk like this before, to other girls, not as blunt, but with you he can get away with it. The creature in your chest is elated, and you find yourself smiling, actually blushing. He moves closer once more, his arm around you, voice low as he spoke into your ear. “Trust me, you look very fit tonight, any man would be lucky to have a crack at you.” Heart in your throat, you hope you’re reading the situation right, at the same time ignoring the part of you that knew this was a bad idea.
“Even you?” You turned to face him, watching the way his smile shifted to a smirk, and he pulled you a little closer.
“You know I’m always feeling lucky.”
You kiss him, feeling your blood thumping in your veins, selfish and excited in equal measure, but with his hands on you, you can’t find the focus to care about the former.
Once the bad starts up again, Roger pulls away, making a face at them, asking if you wanted to get out of there. You do, and the two of you are elated on the quick walk back to his apartment, stopping only when he pressed you up against the wall of an closed shop to suck a hickey into the skin of your neck. You catch sight of it in his bedroom mirror, but he’s pulling off your jacket and you have better things to worry about.
It’s not weird, like you thought it would be, when you wake the next morning and he’s curled up, fast asleep with his back to you, but your chest aches just a little. He avoids eye contact over breakfast, though you chat like normal. The gripes about his van have died down, though he makes an offhand comment about things are changing that you read enough into to realise what had happened.
“You’ll always have me, Rog.” You reach across the table to take his hand, and he finally looks you in the eye, he looks so relieved, not that he’d ever say it. Afraid of losing another thing he cared about, he had panicked last night and tried to keep you close in the only way he knew how. He certainly loved you, but not in the way you wanted him to. Giving his hand a gentle squeeze, you give him a smile that doesn’t reach your eyes. It’s not his fault.
Bohemian Rhapsody airs in Autumn, you’re regional manager now, and you’re sitting in your office when you hear for the first time; you almost scream when the first harmony comes in after the radio host introduces the song.
“You’re a star, Rog!” You gush over the phone on your break, unable to wait until that night when the band was having a celebratory get-together to talk to him.
“Of course, I am, you think I sing that high to be paid in peanuts?” You can hear the smile in his words without even seeing him, and being able to hear his voice warms your heart.
“That was you?” You laugh, the ‘Galileo's playing back in your head, and you try to picture him singing it, which only made you laugh harder.
“Oi,” he bristled, indignant at your laughter, “I’m the only one with the range to execute Freddie’s vision.” You could see him in your mind now, proud and stubborn, standing tall to defend the decision.
“I’m proud of you.” Suddenly sincere, you find your smile turning to something more genuine as you think back on far he’s come.
“Thank you.” His own voice has become less animated, more sincere, though you can still hear him smiling.
“Love you, Rog.” You tell him, just as you always did when you parted ways.
“I’ll see you tonight.”
He’s grinning, draped with casual confidence in an armchair in Freddie’s living room when you arrive, and you feel like you’ve been taken back five years, the casual enthusiasm he’s exerting. Smile brightening, he stands when he sees you, striding across the room to enfold you in a hug.
“Good to see you!” He practically beams at you, holding your shoulders as he looks over you, as if assessing you, seeing if anything has changed.
“Of course, you’ve been holed up for weeks, I wouldn’t miss this for the world!” Though he’s in front of you, you’re words address the room as a whole, and when he steps back, Brian moves in to hug you as well, asking how you’ve been.
The boys are your friends, all of them, you’ve been around for most of their big band moments, and it eases something in your chest to be here for this one too. But then the ease sharply tightens as a woman you’ve never seen before sits on the arm of Roger’s chair, and he rests a hand on her thigh, smiling up at her.
Mary follows your gaze, and her smile is sad as she pulls you down to sit beside her, asking you about your thoughts on the single. You answer, though your heart’s not in it, and the selfish creature in your chest rears it’s ugly head after such a long slumber.
The monster has shifted, changed and grown, it hadn’t cared about him running around with any pretty girl he could find for the past few years, but this was different. Roger had made it clear that he was far from sacred, but this was the band, this was Freddie’s home, this was the place of some of your happiest memories; this was yours.
You stay well into the early hours of the following morning, despite the interloper, but Roger still stopped you at the door.
“I’m really glad you could make it, I feel like I haven’t seen you in ages.” He’s smiling at you, but you don’t smile back. It’s been a long night of being kind and pretending that you’re heart didn’t hurt.
“Well, you’ve very busy.” You shrug, punctuating it with a yawn. His expression turns confused, and you open the door.
“Y/N.” He tried to get your attention, but you left, throwing a goodbye over your shoulder to him. “Love you.” He calls through the door, but you stay quiet, refuse to say it back, just keep walking. You’re too tired to be upset, but maybe you’ll get there tomorrow.
Things change, and you’ve grown to accept that, but sometimes old aches don’t heal like they should. Or at all.
“I’m getting married.” He calls you at the end of Winter.
“Oh.”
“Oh?”
Your relationship’s been on the mend in the years since the Bohemian Rhapsody launch night. You two smile and laugh like you had when you were younger, and you’ve learned to listen to his exploits and his gripes about women, offering your own about your partners, though they’re few and far between. He’s still your best friend, and you learn to act like it.
“Congratulations.” Your voice is flat. It had been a shock, you’d heard about his latest on-again off-again girlfriend, and had even offered advice in certain situations, actual advice, no malice at all.
“Thanks.” He doesn’t seem to know where to go from here, and silence stretches out between the two of you.
“I should go.” You finally murmur.
“What? Why?” He spluttered, and you sighed deeply.
“Was there something else you wanted to talk about?” You asked, closing your eyes and leaning your forehead against the wall.
“I- no, but I want you to be there.” He paused. “And I wanted to be the one to tell you.” Clenching your jaw, you make a snap decision.
“I can’t-”
“Why not?” He actually sounded angry, which was perhaps warranted, though your next words shut him up.
“Because it hurts, Roger.” After a beat, your voice is quiet. “Because I love you.” Taking a breath, you let yourself relax. “I want you to be happy, but I can’t watch you marry someone else.” There’s silence for a very long moment, but you hang up before he can respond. You take the phone off the hook. You need to be alone, just for now.
“After everything, you still-?” It’s the first day of Spring, and he’s on your doorstep, seemingly unable to say the word love. You’re wearing your pyjamas and he looks like he’s just walked out of a Rolling Stone cover shoot, though he just sort of looks like that now, you supposed.
“Don’t worry about it.” You try not to betray how much his visit shocked you, or the way his very presence after your recent conversation hurt you.
“You’re my best friend! Of course I’m gonna worry about it!” He threw his hands up in the air, exasperated. Sighing deeply, he stepped forward. “I thought I fucked everything up when we hooked up, I’m sorry, I panicked.” He was looking at his fidgeting hands, rather than your surprised expression. “And then... I thought I fucked it up again when I chose the band over you.”
“You never-” You tried to protest, but he smiled self-deprecatingly.
“No, I did. I loved you, and I thought that would get in the way of the band.” Clenching his jaw, he looked up and you could see the regret in his eyes. “It was easier to fuck around that tell you I love you.” Your breath stopped in your throat as he finally walked closer. “And I thought after everything, that you deserved better; you know what I’m like, why would you-?” But you cut him off with a kiss.
“You’ll always have me.” You murmured, finally letting yourself smile. Nothing about it felt selfish, in fact, it felt as though the sun was finally shining on you, warming you from the inside out.
“I know,” he agreed quietly, wrapping you up in a hug.

Dumpster Diving (part 10)
Dee curled her little hand into a fist while she sucked away on her new pacifier, and Sniper couldn’t help but smile down at her.
“Do you like it, Dee?” He rubbed her cheek gently. “Sure was nice of Angelica to get that for you, huh?”
Dee only babbled and stretched her arms in response, and Sniper mused aloud, “I wonder when you’re finally gonna talk,”
She stared to squirm and make unhappy sounds, so Sniper laid her in her playpen and turned the TV on.
Sniper heard the sounds of footsteps heading towards the doorway, and he assumed it was Scout at first, so he began, “There’s a baseball game on if you wanted to watch that,”
“Thanks, but I’m not too interested in baseball right now,” a familiar, feminine voice behind him replied, and Sniper turned around in surprise.
Miss Pauling entered, and she stopped, surveying the scene before her. Her eyes landed on Dee in the playpen, and she turned back to Sniper.
“So,” she took a breath, resting her hands in her dress pockets. “When were you planning on telling me about this?”
Sniper fell silent. A knot of worry formed in his gut, and he swallowed. “I...I...I thought Engie was going to tell you,”
“Well, he didn’t,” Miss Pauling answered. “I had to find out from Scout, after I asked him what his mother was doing on the base. He said she was acting as a baby sitter for your child,” she looked back at Dee in the playpen, eyeing her with slight confusion. “I didn’t even realize you were seeing anyone. Is the mother around?”
Sniper let this question process, and then he quickly clarified, “Oh, no, she’s not mine. I mean...she is, but not blood-related. I found her, she’d been abandoned,”
Pauling just nodded. “Ah, I see,” she sat on the couch beside Sniper, crossing one leg over the other. “Can you tell me what you did after you found her? Did you try calling anyone?”
“No,” Sniper started feeling uneasy.
“Not even the Teufort orphanage? Anyone?”
Sniper couldn’t take it anymore, and he blurted out, “Aw, hell! Why in God’s name would I take her to the Teufort orphanage!? To be raised by a bunch of damn lunatics in a place where she probably won’t ever be adopted by anyone, and then they’ll kick her on the street when she’s 18!? Is that what you want!?”
Pauling put her hands up defensively. “Hey, hey! I never said I wanted that, okay?” She sighed. “Listen, I’m just saying that it was a little irresponsible to just take her, even if she was abandoned,”
“She was in a damn dumpster,”
“I know,”
“She was malnourished when I found her,”
“Sniper, please listen to me,” Pauling pleaded. “Look, I’ll let you keep her,”
There was a pause, and Sniper spoke back up, surprised. “Really?”
“Yes, but under one condition,” she stated. “If you’ll let me check the recent birth registry in Teufort, so we can find a potential mother,”
Sniper chewed on his lip, looking towards Dee. After a moment, he took a breath. “Okay, but the mum probably doesn’t want her back,”
“I know, if she abandoned the baby in a dumpster she probably doesn’t,” Pauling agreed. “But it’s the right thing to do. You also need to sign official adoption papers, but I can help you with that,”
“Okay,” Sniper swallowed, looking away.
Dee started to whimper in her playpen, and Sniper rose up to pick her up. He settled back on the couch with Dee in his arms, and she grabbed the collar of his shirt into her tiny fist, looking up at him.
Pauling leaned in a bit, looking at Dee’s face. After a moment, she commented, “She’s really pretty,”
“Yeah,” Sniper agreed, smoothing a hand over the small head. Demo had been right, Dee’s hair was coming in thick and dark.
“What’s her name?”
“I’ve been callin’ her Dee,” Sniper responded. “Not short for anything, I just liked the sound of it,”
Dee’s pacifier fell out of her mouth, and she started to whine in panic. Sniper retrieved it and quickly gave it back to her. “Oops. Here ya go, beastie,”
As Dee began sucking on the pacifier again, Pauling commented, “You’re really good with her,”
Sniper smiled. “Ah, thank you,” he adjusted his grip on the infant, and then turned to Pauling. “You wanna hold her?”
Pauling hesitated, and then held her arms out. “Uh...sure,”
Sniper gently placed Dee in Pauling’s arms, and Pauling held Dee for maybe a few seconds before handing her back over to Sniper.
“Um, I’m sorry,” Pauling retracted her arms, staring back down at Dee. “I’m not that comfortable holding kids, uh...”
“That’s okay,” Sniper assured. “I didn’t used to be that good with kids either, ‘least I never thought I was. Never really spent that much time with ‘em, y’know?”
“Oh, I spent so much time around little kids when I was a teenager,” Pauling sighed. “By that logic, I should love them, but I really...don’t,” she laughed a little. “My mom ran a daycare out of our house when I was younger,”
Sniper glanced up, surprised. “Really? Wow. What was that like?”
Pauling groaned. “It was like having little brothers and sisters constantly. I mean, I didn’t seen them a lot since I was at school, but they’d leave their toys everywhere and they’d get into my stuff. One time, some of the kids got finger paint on my old typewriter, and I got so angry that I told my mom I would move out if she kept letting the kids near my stuff,”
“Wow. Did you?”
“No. Well, not then. I moved out a couple years later but...” she trailed off, suddenly getting quiet. “I got kicked out...because of...stuff,”
“Oh,” there was a silence, and Sniper patted her hand gently. “I’m sorry to hear that,”
“It’s okay,” Pauling assured. “It was a long time ago. I haven’t seen my parents since,” she cleared her throat, looking back at Dee. “Anyway, I think it’s really interesting that you adopted a baby you found,”
Sniper raised an eyebrow. “Interesting? Why is it interesting?”
“Well...I mean, you were adopted,” Pauling shrugged. “I just think it’s cool that you adopted a kid yourself, years later,”
“I...” Sniper looked down at Dee. “Yeah...you’re right. Huh,” he hadn’t thought about that.
Pauling sniffed, standing up. “Oh, I almost forgot: I’m taking you guys out for dinner tonight at the diner, I hope that’s okay,”
“Yeah,” Sniper replied, letting Dee grab his finger. “Yeah, that’s fine. Can I bring Dee?”
“Of course,” Pauling nodded, smoothing her dress out before leaving the room. “I didn’t think you’d leave her behind here, anyway,”
“Yeah,”
As Pauling left the room, Sniper brought Dee up to his shoulder and hugged her close. “Yeah, Dee, I’d never leave you behind,” he murmured, rubbing her back lovingly. “Don’t worry,”
Dee cooed around her pacifier into Sniper’s ear, and Sniper planted a tiny kiss on her cheek.

the coffee kingdom
note: this is my first fic for taz, and its about a small character that needs more love. thats the funheist brand, friends. ill be adding a second part soon, i just wanted to spread it on tumblr as well! coffee shop au that nobody asked for.
Lucas needs money for his experiments. Taako doesn't mean to be the worst customer. [ AO3 mirror ]
If Lucas had a choice, he would spend every day working on his experiments. He's close, the robots he's been tinkering with for so long are coming together, No. 3113 may look scrappy but he's proud of her, his first steps toward making a difference in this garbage world, but...robots cost money.
He debates selling his work, but that goes against everything he's worked for. Goes against the Miller family name. Lucas wants to be able to help, to teach kids things that his mother taught him. Hodge Podge could do that, he knows it, but his supplies have run low (and that might be because he's trying to build so many other things, too).
He begrudgingly gets the job at the uppity coffee shop in the middle of Neverwinter, the 'Help Wanted' sign taunting him every time he would walk past and get himself groceries. It's been a few months, and he's made a few...acquaintances at the shop, but he's not there to make friends. They're nice, his manager is a woman that he would be scared of in any other circumstance--a tall, orc woman named Killian who he goes out of the way to smile at because if he doesn't, he's positive he'll get suplexed through the counter.
"Hey, Luc!" Killian says cheerfully as he walks in the back door, and he flashes his best not-annoyed smile at her as he grabs his apron off its hook. Motherfucking robot couldn't just work, had to blow up in his stupid face; he's just glad that he got his arms over his face before pieces of metal went flying everywhere.
"Rough night?" Lucas grunts in agreement, fixing one of the band-aids on his forearm with a sigh.
"Just your average robo-explosion."
Killian chuckles and pats him on the shoulder, muttering something about that not being normal, but Lucas doesn't pay it any mind. He didn't sleep at all, his eyes hurt from being open for so long, and his head throbs in time with his heart. If he can just get to a coffee machine before--
There's a line before he can even say hi to his coworker. He has to stop the groan that threatens to come out as he's told to start making orders, puts on his best I-don't-want-to-stab-myself face, and starts shouting orders.
By the time he can breathe again, his hands are shaking. Should he sit down or something? He glances at the line, just one person now, and makes himself a black iced coffee to down in record time. When he looks up again, Carey and another guy he hasn't bothered to learn the name of are staring at him like he has four heads, and he just raises an eyebrow back.
"Yes?"
"I don't know if I should be impressed or worried," Carey says on a laugh, looking at the other guy, who nods.
Lucas glances between the dragonborn and the now-empty cup, and back up at Carey as he fills it up a second time and starts to drink it. Carey makes a face and gags, shaking her head.
"Jesus, dude, have you ever slept in your life?"
"Probably."
He's forced into small talk as he starts to clean up the counter, a taller man named Avi coming over and clapping Lucas on the shoulder, telling him that "you drink coffee the way my dad drinks beer!" which he...is not sure how to respond to. But the guy seems nice, smiling too much and sipping out of a hot coffee cup that Lucas can tell is not full of coffee.
Lucas is left alone up front when Avi and Carey head to their breaks (Lucas insisted that he could handle it on his own, rarely did people come in at this time), and he's adjusting one of the bandages around one of his knuckles when someone enters, the bell making him jolt up and put on his best face. Which immediately drops, when the person walking in is clearly not paying attention. He speaks loudly on his phone despite it being right next to his mouth, and Lucas isn't going to let himself get angry. He's had a long morning, he hasn't slept, his hands are shaking, but he's not going to get angry.
He's not going to get angry when the elf says, "Hold on, bubbeleh," to the phone and puts it down, flashing a toothy smile at Lucas. He's not going to get angry when the elf peruses the menu for a solid five minutes and creates the most convoluted, disgusting order known to man. The elf finishes his order with a drawl, and Lucas is about to repeat the order, when he gets cut off.
"I'm confident that you're gonna get it right, my guy. Slap the name T-double-a-k-o on the side and you got yourself a masterpiece."
He's not going to get angry.
Lucas grits his teeth against the sugary stench of the creation he's making, debates why this guy would even get coffee if there's barely any coffee in it, and then. And then.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm back, sorry. Gotta get my dose of sugar and caffeine before I brave you and Barry being gross all day, you know how it is."
Lucas wants to drop the whole fucking drink into the garbage.
"Taako," he says, loudly, staring the elf in the face. He's not paying attention. Awesome!
"Taako!" he tries again, louder, and Taako jumps before turning and taking the drink off the counter.
"Thanks..." he follows Taako's eyes as they look for his nametag, and part of him wants to hide it, "Lucas. Lucas! Thank you."
He slides a gold piece onto the counter and leaves with the concoction in one hand and his phone in the other. His anger has subdued a little, enough to notice how well-dressed this elf is on his way out, and he doesn't know why it makes him feel so bad about his stained jeans and fucked up t-shirt, but it does.
God, he needs to sit.
The next few times Lucas sees Taako, he seems...apologetic. He comes in around the same time, orders a drink that's still disgusting, but Lucas learns that he doesn't really taste it so he likes to switch it up. He always tips well, and after the sixth time (who's counting?) he doesn't move when Lucas slides him his drink.
"Tell me about yourself, Luco."
It catches him off-guard--the nickname, the question--and he realizes he doesn't know how to answer. Has he ever even told anyone...about himself? Killian asked because she interviewed him and he had to, but that was all the standard stuff. He works in his lab alone, he needs money for more parts, and that's about it.
"I...make robots, I guess."
"Wow, your life is real fuckin' interesting, huh," Taako muses, taking a sip of the drink that makes Lucas cringe, and he flashes that toothy smile again.
"I don't know what you're expecting. I work here to make money for my experiments. I have a lab on the outskirts of town. That's pretty much it."
"Woah, slow down, I got lost in the story." Lucas laughs and he realized that...he hasn't done that in a while.
Sure, he chuckles when No.3113 accidentally bumps into the doorframe when she's adjusting to her new modifications, or triumphantly when something doesn't blow up in his face. He busies himself with a machine to hide the fact that he's so surprised by something so mundane.
"What about you then? You have a story that'll blow my mind?" Lucas tries, stumbling over his words only a little bit, and he's interrupted by the door opening and people walking in.
When he gets to look over after the family of four leaves, there's an empty cup on the counter. He's about to get mad, but when he picks it up, there's a phone number and a name scrawled neatly across it. Obviously magically done, but Lucas still looks around for any sign of Taako or Killian before pulling out his phone and punching in the number. Does he wait? Does it seem to eager if he sends a text right then and there? No, he's at work, he should be responsible. But...he wants to talk to Taako. That's a first for him.
Lucas knows a lot, but he doesn't know the first thing about feelings.
Their conversations aren't too in-depth over text, but Lucas looks forward to it. Sure, it slows down his progress on Hodge Podge a lot, but he likes having someone to talk to. No.3113 notices and tries to bug him about it, will make comments when Lucas drops a screwdriver and grabs his phone when it buzzes, and Lucas comes to two more realizations.
He has feelings for Taako. And he feels incredibly lonely.
It's weird to look forward to going into work. He walks in and Killian notices that he's actually eager to go out front, he doesn't take much pushing, and it takes all of two seconds to figure out why.
The door opens, Taako enters, and Lucas visibly perks up. Killian shares a look with Carey, who doesn't hesitate to step in.
"Hey, Taako!" she says cheerily, and Lucas jumps when Killian comes next to him and leans down to whisper in his ear.
"You should go for it."
Lucas yelps and blushes deeply, turning around to look at Killian, who's laughing. "Wh-I don't-what?"
He turns back around only to be met by Taako staring at him incredulously, that stupid toothy grin on his face, and Lucas is pretty sure his face is on fire.
"You good, my man?"
"Great!" he says too quickly, picking up a large cup and a pen, "What can I get for you?"
He misses when Carey and Killian high-five behind him, but he nearly drops the cup a couple times in trying to get Taako's order written out on it.
Lucas can feel Taako watching him as he makes the drink, and he has to make sure his hands are steady as he goes through the steps that he has memorized by now. All the drinks have the same components, just in a different order, and he doesn't mind that this order is particularly long because he doesn't know if he can face Taako after that.
"Um, Tay-ko?" Lucas jokes, pushes his glasses up and pretends to squint to read the name that he doesn't have written, and Taako laughs loudly.
"That was a joke! You made a joke! I'm so proud!" Lucas bites his bottom lip and smiles, sliding the drink over and watching Taako wipe at his eyes dramatically and take it.
"Thanks. First one ever." Taako grins and Lucas heart flips, and suddenly he's blushing as hard as he was a few minutes ago.
"I'd like to take you out sometime," Taako says after a moment, and Lucas gapes at him. This gorgeous, confident elf, taking him on a date? Somebody pinch him.
"Close your mouth, you'll get bugs," he teases and Lucas does, and Taako winks at him, "I'll text you the details, sugar."
"I-uh-y-yeah! That's...awesome!" Nice. Nailed it.
Lucas watches him as he leaves, and he doesn't even notice Carey come up and grab his shoulders. "Holy shit, Luc!"
"Did that just happen?"
Lucas' heart leaps that night, when he's writing notes down in the dim light of his bedroom and his phone buzzes next to him.
call out tomorrow. i have a plan.
Lucas is terrified.

a memory that makes them feel angry
oh lord, too many. she’s grown to be a bitter person, so just about anything can set her off these days. when someone disrespects and disses art, for instance, it riles her up. whenever she hears people go on and on about the glamorous idol world, she wants to puke on their shoes. not just puke, no no, puke on their shoes. just so they know what it’s like to go through all that hoping and dreaming and hard work only to have every promise spat back up and chucked at their feet, like she did. yeah, the babbling dreamers who criticize her for ‘giving up’, they make her angry.

Darkest Before Dawn Part 8
Farcry 5 fanfic. Rated M for Mature language and sexual reference. No pairing or plans for smutt.
It was starting to get dark, but you decided to look around the ranch and see if you can still find anything. John must be a neat freak, every thing was so meticulously placed and clean. and incredibly high end.
“Are you just going to snoop everywhere?” One of the peggies asked while you where rummaging through the kitchen.
“My brothers want me to stay here, John tells me this is this my house to, that its the familys house. Im allowed to go anywhere as long as its on the property no?” You say while looking at them. They looked annoyed and you move from the kitchen and headed outside the peggies outside either glared at you or ignored you. You noticed the big building onlff to the side with a tower, that must be the hanger. You head there with some excitement, it was a nice sized hanger. There was a beautiful yellow sea plane in there it looked like someone was doing repair work on it. Wrongly to. You grabbed the tool box and started fixing the hack job.
“What are you doing?” Asked one of the peggies angerly.
“Fixing a hack job.” You reply with looking at them.
“John wont like you tampering with it.”
“Not tampering, fixing. The way she is right now shes going to stall and drop right out of the sky.” You respond.
“You a mechanic to?” You hear Johns voice from behind you look over “I saw you head in here thought I would check in.”
“Pilot, I maintained my own plane. Sold it when i moved. Didn’t want to have to worry about moving my plane to.” You say as you go back to fixing it. “I would tell you to shoot who ever butchered this, but you might so... Dont let them near planes from now on.” You finish up and put the tools down. John looked at it and nodded.
“Good work, shows how much you belong here.” He said before he turned around and left. You look at the hanger door it was open and the plane was close, it could be your way out, if you could do it with out getting shot with bliss. You look around the hanger it was a mess, unlike the house everything was scattered.
“Alright boys, your going to tail me, you can help. Why dont two of you push the plane out, and i start organizing the rest of this mess.” You say as you start cleaning and organizing the peggies looked at each other. “I can push the plane out then.” you sigh as you put what was in your hands down and go to the plane.
“Why?” One of the peggies asked “What makes you think John wants you to?”
“His whole house is neat and shiny, everything has a place. This place is a disaster zone. You want to win brownie points with my brother, this would be a good start.” You started pushing the plane out and reluctantly the peggies helped. You angle it so the nose was pointing down the runway, ready. “Work hard boys, or find me another escort that will.” You say as you go back to cleaning.
“Why should we help you clean. Why should anyone of us help a dirty sinner like you.” One of the peggies asked angerly.
“Your men are lazy John.” You yell loudly “Wont even help me organize.” They instantly jump into action. “Never mind, they found their muse.” You kept cleaning and organizing for a few hours your escorts would regularly complain. You kept name dropping to keep them busy, every time they started to slow down. They eventually got more into cleaning and organizing than watching you, you slowly start organizing closer to the door. They where not paying attention and you quietly slip out the door and to the plane. You where careful to not make much noise as you climbed in and positioned yourself low in the seat. They where going to shoot at you and you would rather not get hit when you started the engine. You take a deep breath before starting the engine and taxing down the run way. It took a minute for it to click to the peggies before the ran out after you, by that time you where picking up speed. They started shooting and you urged to go faster. “Come on beautiful show me what you got.” You whisper you could feel the wind pick up beneath the wings and you lift off.
“Your taking my plane Joanne.” Johns angry voice over the radio came into the plane.
You grab the receiver to reply. “Sorry John. I love you, but i cant stay. I got your men to clean your hanger for you though.” There was no reply but you knew he was angry.
After a few minutes the radio crackled up again “You peggie son of a biych you bring me plane back! I will get you! I promise you that.” Thats not John you think confused.
“I just stole this plane from John, who are you?”
“What?” There was a great deal of confusion in his voice. “You have to have a huge set of balls to steal from the peggies, can you bring me my plane back?”
“Theres a story to go with it, but ya i can. Lucky i got to her when i did, they where doing repairs that would of dropped her from the sky.” You say “I was going to go to the Rye strip. But uh, i can bring her anywhere for you, as long as its not the seed ranch.”
“That’s perfect! Im Nick Rye bring my plane on home!”
It didn’t take long to find the airstrip, or to land. Nick came running out of the hanger towards you yelling in excitement “Oh hell ya! Thats my plane! I cant thank you enough! This is my family’s ticket out of here, this shit hole.” He said while shaking your hand. “KIM, KIM GET OUT THE PLANES BACK.”
“I CAN HEAR THAT NICK.” A very pregnant woman yelled back as she walk towards you two slowly.
“Well go get the luggage so we can leave come on Kim.” He said frantically.
“Im not leaving, your not leaving Nick.” She said stubbornly. “This is your home, your grandfather built it. Its our home, its our childs home. We cant walk away from this!” She was rubbing her belly and you couldn’t help but wonder if it was for dramatic flare.
“Kim these peggies are dangerous people, we cant stay.”
“Well im not leaving.” She said as she put her hands on her hips. Nick put his head in his hands and shook his head.
“Dammit Kim, its not safe!”
“Still not leaving Nick.” She replied Nick kicked some dirt and Nodded reluctantly. “Our child will be born here, raised here. In our home.”
“Ok, if we’re staying, if we’re doing this. Then i will fight for it, us.” He said incredibly reluctantly.
“May i?” You ask Kim motioning towards her belly she smiled and nodded. You gently feel her belly. “This is her bum” you say to kim rubbing the top of her belly “And this is the head down here. Dropped and in position, you must be a few weeks out from your due date. Probably sooner with all this going on.”
“Are you a doctor?” Kim asked surprised.
“No, i was a paramedic before i moved here. A crisis paramedic actually.” You say with a smile. “It didn’t happen very often, but i helped a few deliveries. It was my favourite part of the job. Usually its stopping death, this is about bringing life.”
“You just might have to stick around then! Our doctor is fine for now, but with these peggies you never know.” Kim said
“Would be more than happy to stick around.” You reply happily.
“Thank you.” Nick said “How was it you stole her back from John anyways?”
“Uh, John wanted me to join the party, so to speak so I pretended i was being useful. Fixed the plane, thank God what a hack job they did. So when my tailing crew where busy I jumped in the plane and took off. John was pretty pissed off told me i was stealing his plane. Thats why i was surprised it was yours.”
“I dont even know your name.” He said as he held out his hand
“Deputy Knight.” You say with a smile as you shake it.
His face changed instantly. “As in Joanne, the long lost sister the peggies wont stop talking about.”
“Stop it Nick, you know as well as i do shes not one of them. You heard as well as i, she saved falls end. She brought the plane back.” Kim said. Nick looked angry but didn’t reply any further.
“I will head out, but just so you know Nick. Im not my brothers i want to save this place, yours and everyone else’s. I’ve spent my life saving lives, im not turning my back on that now. If you need it, im available to help you and Kim.” You say softly he didn’t reply but Kim gave you a smile and nod.
