When Murtogg felt the mermaid pull him into the water he at first panicked ( as he couldn't swim ) but he soon realized what was actually happening. Lryi was kissing him and he wasn't sure how to react at first but decided to kiss her back. He let the kiss linger, unaware that people were watching and those people were his fellow marines. His arms snaked around Lryi's waste to hold onto her, afraid to let go. As if she'd disappeared from him and he's wake up. Like this was a dream.

As soon as the kiss ended, his mouth gaped open like a fish. Staring at her. "Wow." he muttered with a grin. He never had been kissed like that before. This was a first for him, as odd as that seemed. He could hear a few voices around him but they seemed jumbled to hi ears. He was in love and that was now apparent. "I love you." he blurted out stupidly.

Murtogg looked to Lyri for a long while. He wasn't sure if she wanted to stop or if he wanted to. He wasn't really used to dancing with someone else and he was probably confusing the mermaid with how he was. "I didn't know if you wanted t'stop or not." he admitted to her with a small frown. He cleared his throat and looked around the cottage then back to her. He went quiet again, his emotions were all over the place. he like Lyri a lot but for some reason he couldn't communicate properly with her. He was just anxious and nervous around her.

Did he want something more out of this? Maybe. He was very fond of her. His eyes went to Fish as he took gave the feline a few pets and scratches as the cat purred happily to the attention it was getting from both of them. Richard's eyes went to Lyri and smiled softly to her. His head tilted, contemplating asking her the next question on his mind. "Do you like spending time with me?"

"I rather thought I was getting the hang of it." She said, surprised at his desire to stop dancing so quickly. He seemed to regret his offer, at least, Lyri thought this was the case. Many expressions had crossed his face and he had been thinking deeply about something. Lyri was reasonably good at reading expressions if they were of confused sailors but she couldn't read his- she couldn't quite follow all the emotions he seemed to go through so quickly.

She sat down by the fire, and waited patiently for him to join. The cat wasted no time in rubbing her face against Lyri's ankles, and Lyri gave the cat a brief scratch behind the ears before sitting back up to look at the fire.

In the aftermath of the incident Roger finds two mysterious toddlers both set adrift in the ocean. One is a sunny red headed, cheerful little boy with the looks of a Viking prince. The other is strange, difficult, overly busy, and perpetually unhappy. The only thing that seems to settle the odd blue haired little boy, is his red head friend.

Roger raises both both children aboard his ship as honorary Rogers Pirates. They're called Shanks & Buggy respectively. They're not his blood but they will inherit his pirate legacy. They're inseparable.

35 years ago: Garp & Roger marry in secret

30 years ago: increasing pressure from the world government causes a spiral of strain between increasing strife between Marines and pirates. Often men who'd been working working side by side in balance for years. Alliances, friendships, and romantic engagements crumble

27 years ago: Roger Pirates are disbanded. Shanks & Buggy have a falling out, each starting their own crews separately.

It's rumored they still occasionally see each other on Roger's lingering business. No one knows what that might be.

In the months that follow, mutually distraught, Buggy & Shanks reconcile, sometimes running their crews together for periods of weeks or months at a time.

The two crews are known to be close associates of each other. It's an open secret that Red Hair Shanks & Buggy the Clown are lovers.

Mihawk is still around sometimes. No one knows what that means. No one's brave enough to ask.

23 years ago: Gol D Ace is born to Garp & Roger. A romantic story is woven to protect the child and his identity. A story about a woman who loves a man so much she held their baby inside her body until Roger had been in prison for much to long to be the baby's father. The baby is given his fictional mother's family name, Portgas.

Ace takes after Garp the most, fun loving, hearty, brave, loyal, stubborn, incredibly strong, and always absolutely starving.

If Garp seems like he has regrets no one is foolish enough to point that out to him

18 years ago: The eldest son of the GolD MonkeyD clan, a disillusioned Marine turned freedom fighter Monkey D Dragon, and a disenfranchised pirate turned mercenary spy code name Crocodile, cross paths in an unlikely turn of political events

Sparks Fly between Crocodile, & Dragon, two men with different but momentarily intersecting goals find common ground

A connection is made, a baby is conceived

17 years ago: Crocodile gives birth to a baby boy in absolute secret. The baby, an heir to unknowable power amongst both the pirates and the Marines, is in danger as long as he remains with either of his fathers.

The infant is a liability neither man is willing or able to take on, neither of his parents can reasonably or safely take care of the baby in their lines of work

The baby was given only a name, Monkey D Luffy and sent via wet nurse courier to the home base of his adopted family, Buggy & Shanks. Both men, foundlings themselves, with connections high up in both the Marines and the world's most powerful pirate crews. The baby can be safe there. And so he's raised, hidden in plain sight in Buggy and Shank's combined crew for three years.

Ace spends summers with Shanks and Buggy as well, both to reduce suspicions about his parentage and so the 2 little boys could be raised as family

14 years ago: Luffy, now much to spirited and strong to hide on any one ship, starts drawing dangerous questions from powerful people. A painful decision is made. Shanks & Buggy's crews will separate again, only working together in secret.

Shanks would take the toddler and set him up at a home base, a nowhere little backwater town called Windmill village, where he could keep an eye on the growing boy from an apparent distance.

Buggy would be out in the world spreading the wrong kind of rumors.

Ace, a bright and precocious child, spends summers bouncing between Buggy and Shanks, learning everything he can about the kind of freedom he dreams of taking for himself one day.

10 years ago: Luffy eats the gum gum fruit unintentionally causing an avalanche of cataclysmic change.

Shanks inability to produce this particular devil fruit puts him in the cross hairs of powerful government agents. Knowing the government and pirates alike would soon be making attempts on the the life of whoever ate the gum gum fruit, Shanks sends for Garp to take his grandson. He's now the only person with the power to hide Luffy from both the Marines and the secretive government officials the devil fruit was intended for.

To further protect Luffy, Shanks disappears with his crew amid rumors they started themselves that he'd double crossed his employers and eaten the devil fruit himself.

Shanks gives Luffy his hat before he goes and tells the boy to come find him when he's ready to become a great pirate in his own right

Luffy's dream is born

Garp collects Luffy, he raises and trains both Luffy and Ace as adopted brothers

Though Luffy doesn't remember being born into piracy, it's in his blood and bones, it's in his dreams

No matter what Garp does, he's unable to dissuade either his secret son or his grandson from the danger of following their family's grand pirate legacy

Rumors travel fast on the high seas, rumors get back to Buggy that Shanks has taken up with the Marine sanctioned freshly minted Warlord of the sea, the Privateer Dracule Mihawk... again.

Buggy is heartbroken and furious, he sinks deep into the weeds of retaliation and revenge, cutting off contact with the only extended family he's ever known

5 years ago: in a frustrated fury over ongoing power struggles with Garp, Ace leaves home. Whitebeard finds him, offers to make the boy his own son and legacy. Ace accepts, finally he has a family where he belongs

Murtogg had been standing at sentry duty next to the Commodore aboard the Dauntless and was minding his own business. He didn't see the flash of light that came over the Commodore at first. He only caught the last little bit of it from the corner of his eyes. "Sir, did you see ---." he began, turning to Norrington to see if he had caught a glimpse of the flashing light. That's when he had saw something very odd. A fluffy tail wagging from Norrington's backside and the tail.

A very confused look came over Richard as he was baffled beyond belief over the whole thing. Then his eye noticed ... dog ears. Then the fluff of hair where his powdered wig was. "Commdore? Wot's going on? You --- ." Concern and a bit of panic flooded over the corporal as he was truly baffled over what had just happened to his ... commanding officer. Why did his friend have dog parts. Not just any dog ... a poodle of all things. " -- you've got a tail."

"One of the rarest and most selective Chapters in the Imperium of Man is The Seraphim Order, A chapter surrounded by zealot beliefs of perfection and purity. In its order, each battle brother's and sister's gene seed is refined through endless processes to the point where its number pales in comparison to others, where each weakness and 'heretic' trait is genetically purged and scrubbed from their records. Despite their number, they are well versed in their training and kitted with the latest and rarest of equipment, arrogantly claiming that each Marine from their order is worth 10 of any else's.  For years, the Order has been the Emperor's weapon of reckless faith, a specialised chapter in the Imperium designed to purge and destroy all its enemies. Unlike the Inquisition or even the Grey Knights, The Seraphim Order wastes no time asking questions or considering the options. When ordered to purge the unclean, they act instantly and without hesitation. The Chapter's obsession with loyal purity led to its near-extinction after a prior Champion of the Order turned to the heresy of a void god, and led to the entire chapter being rigorously purged out of over caution. A testament to their words, "Purity through suffering".

"Ah. Pistols are fairly good, true enough. I prefer a musket after all. It's ... my specialty." Richard half joked, grinning stupidly at her. No, he wasn't bragging ... okay maybe a little. He was a good marksman and all, good enough to occasionally be put on such detail aboard the Dauntless. However, he was just stuck on sentry ( or lookout ) duty most of the time. After all, they didn't call him Eagle Eyes for nothing. Actually nobody called him that -- but himself and a select few other marines. "They don't call me Eagle Eyes for nothing, y'know."

He turned to her, finishing up his cup of tea. "I'd be glad t'show you some things about it. Yes! I'm sure you're a decent shot if y'know how t'handle pistols and all." Murtogg replied with a grin. He thought for a long moment, before deciding to change the subject to hobbies. He had a handful of them, but he wasn't sure if she'd be interested in taking a look at them. "Do y'like art? I happen t'have some paintings if you'd be interesting in taking a look at them?"

Only one more, or she was going to have to ask to use the privy before she left - she wasn't likely to find one elsewhere unless she visited a tavern or inn. But it gave Mur something to do that wasn't thinking of conversation.Even if he was doing better on that score than he thought.

It wouldn't be too often he'd run into a woman in Port Royal who knew the nitty-gritty of long arms and musketry. There were no doubt a few who could shoot, be it at clay pigeons or something larger, but the facts and figures of the military side would leave them stumped. So it was to his good fortune that it was an outlier like herself he'd invited over for tea!

"I prefer pistols, myself, they're easier to handle. But of course they don't have the range." The full truth was that she preferred a crossbow, from both the nostalgic point of view and for avoiding that same reloading time. "Like everything, practice makes you better." She nodded, taking the second cup with a smile. "And I'd love for you to show me, if there's a chance - maybe let me have a try and you can give me some pointers?"

The hulking renegade wore battleplate inscribed with line upon line of obscene verse, and his helmet bristled with unnatural fleshy growths. Despite the state of his armour, the bolter he carried was well cared for, as was the sword sheathed at his side. Fabius knew him for a steady hand, as far as such things went.

If it’s before Romance Dawn/before Makino then all ships are fair game.  Benn Beckman: Age: first appearance - 38, pre-timeskip - 48, post time-skip - 50 Bisexual Main ship: None Ship w/: Anyone, but he is dedicated to the crew so it’s hard to get to his heart. He’s a challenge but 10/10 worth it. All fair game. He is always down for the meaningless flirting though.

Rockstar: Age: pre-timeskip - 28, post time-skip - 30 Pansexual Main ship: None Ship w/: Anyone. He’s got a little inferiority complex because of who his captain and crew are, but he’ll flirt and be open to anything. He’s more flighty, and less interested in getting into a serious relationship than someone like Roux is. Easiest to get in bed. 

Elia Ricci: Age: pre-timeskip - 19, post time-skip - 21 Pansexual Main ship: Emmy ( @seraphiixa​‘s minor Marine) Ship w/ others: Ships are all in separate verses, naturally. Elia likes the process of falling in love and he’s a sappy, cheesy, gag-worthy romantic and has no shame about it. 

Cherise P. Belrosse: Age: pre-timeskip - 23, post time-skip - 25 Bisexual - Prefers men Main ship: Zoro (all in her head) Ship w/ others: Cherise has a history of “falling in love” and leaving her boyfriends disfigured or as corpses. She’s not malicious or black widow type, she’s 100% Taylor Swift in Blank Space. Fun to ship with, but also be careful. Maybe a woman would be safe from her destruction? Idk what would happen if she actually met Zoro. 

Mercedes “Mercy” Abbot:  Age: pre-timeskip - 25, post time-skip - 27 Bisexual - Prefers women Main ship: None Ships w/: Anyone. She’s a soft brawler. Take it as you will. She’s got no relationship history save for sleeping around in ports.  

Smoker:  Age: pre-timeskip - 24, post time-skip - 26 Bisexual - Prefers women Main ship: None (Though I like SmoAce and SmoLaw) Ships w/: Anyone. He's super cute when in love, but it takes a moment to get there.  

Jessie: Age: 26 Bisexual - Prefers Men Main ship: James Ships w/: Anyone. She's often sad, often depressed, and often full of fight and sarcasm. She can be soft though.

As Norrington reluctantly agreed to allow Murtogg to join them on the pair's walk, the marine felt awkward again. Out of place all over again. Why would she want him to join them? He knew Norrington was smitten over Miss Swann ( much like he was ), but didn't know if Elizabeth returned the affections to Norrington. She seemed mostly friendly with himself. He just .. couldn't understand cues and hints people gave him in social situations that involved romance and the like. He just was socially awkward when not on duty.

Murtogg had gotten up to follow Elizabeth, causing Norrington to arch a brow. Once the marine and the Governor's daughter were in the hallway, he replied to her comments. "I ... no. I don't think you're vain for not wanting to be married, Miss Swann." he replied, looking down to the young woman. Richard couldn't understand why some people pressured others into getting married. He understood the basic reasoning of having a family and all, but what if someone didn't want a family? Or didn't know if they wanted to? He was one of the later. He wanted to have a family at some point but didn't know if he really wanted to. It seemed harder for women it seemed. They were pressured more than men were about marriage and having children.

"Y'don't need to apologize." he admitted to her. Murtogg looked over his shoulder. If Norrington was going to propose, he doubted that the Captain would do so infront of a lowly marine. Yes, he and Norrington were on friendly terms but they never spoken much outside of their duties. He smiled awkwardly, trying to reassure Elizabeth that he didn't think Norrington was going to propose. "I doubt he'll propose if I'm around. I'm not sure if he will even propose at all, if I'm honest, Miss Swann." he whispered lowly to her, sighing slightly afterward.

"Can I make a suggestion." Elizabeth suddenly announced, eyes momentarily dropping to the slice of orange in her hands while she figured out her following words. She could already feel her father's piercing eyes upon her, wondering what sort of evil plan she was concocting. "Seeing Mr. Murtogg has a extensive knowledge about this new ship, we might very well invite him on our trip," She dropped the orange on her plate, reaching for her teacup instead. Anything to keep her occupied a little longer. The wry twist of her lips almost managed to give away any hint of her plan, brown eyes finding James' as she took a sip of her tea. "Don't you agree, Mr. Norrington?"

Elizabeth was well aware of the fact that James could hardly deny her anything and even a simple request like this would be agreed upon, even though the man had originally planned to take her on this afternoon walk alone. It took all of her self-control to keep from grinning at the ridiculousness of her impertinence. James' eyes shifted sharply in Richard' direction, surprise registering in his features at her suggestion, but just like Elizabeth had predicted, they softened and he invited the man to join. There was no escaping though, she'd to cope with the aftermath later, so avoiding her father the coming days became a high priority on her list.

She regained her composure, leveled her eyes on the commodore and then her father and said, "Will you excuse me, gentlemen, for I believe I have to get ready." and with those words she left, knowing Mr. Murtogg would follow. When they were alone in the hallways her attention shifted to him. "I apologize for getting you into this mess," Elizabeth whispered as the pair walked towards her chambers, "but, I am afraid, that if I didn't invited you to come with us, he would have proposed." her footsteps abruptly came to halt. "And I believe I'm not ready to get married. I don't think I want to accept his proposal, which is a foolish thing to do ,isn't it? After all, he is a smart match." her gaze met his, "Am I to vain, Mr. Murtogg? Would it be a foolish decision to make?"

POSSIBLE THREAD IDEAS FOR WRITING WITH DRUCILLA

UNDERCOVER IN THE MARINES

Is your muse a Marine? A Warlord? A pirate that's been taken into custody? Drucilla goes undercover for months as a lieutenant, through some skillfully forged papers, in order to break her captain out of Impel Down for stealing a book on the Poneglyphs.

IMPEL DOWN/DURING MARINEFORD

Having written my Shanks into her backstory as a distant friend (though this can be changed should others Shanks writers have interest), she knows why Luffy is setting out to do what he does and stays at Marineford to aid the fight, even if it’s smarter to go, and he doesn’t know her at all, because she recognizes a sibling’s love. She was on a pirate crew for ten years, so it wouldn’t be all that far-fetched to say she’s crossed paths with factions of, say, the Whitebeard Pirates. Or it could be a means of betrayal between her and a Marine she might’ve gotten close to, now that her identity is out in the open.

REGARDING MISCELLANEOUS PIRATE THINGS

Prior to Marineford, she's a member of the Siren Pirates, serving as their first mate and merchant for ten years. Any number of shenanigans can arise on the sea or while stationed for a time. Drucilla is a loyal and true friend if she doesn’t feel it’s necessary to cut ties in order to put herself first.

POST-TIMESKIP

As her parents were part of the first wave of the Revolutionary Army, she gets in contact with them through her connections with the Cross Guild and her friendship with Mihawk (using my own Mihawk, but that, again, can be changed out for something else.) I haven’t fully fleshed out this verse yet, but she wants to do something greater that isn’t just looking out for herself.

THE PRE-PIRACY YEARS

From the ages of 10-13, she’s a feral orphan learning and doing whatever she can to survive. At 13, she eats her Devil Fruit, before being found by her adoptive mom. Maybe they were friends at this time, or during the more stable ages of 13-18.

MISCELLANEOUS

Richard Murtogg was struggling with his cravat, maybe because he was more nervous about attending the ball that Governor Swann was hosting. Why was he supposed to be there? He wasn't on duty nor was he important enough to gather an invitation? That's when he recalled it was for officers who weren't on duty were allowed to attend if they wished. Mostly for a few of the elite, but others were allowed to attend.

He was thankful Miss Thera ( as he liked to call her ), was there to help him. "I always have a bit of trouble with these silly things." he joked, before sheepishly smiling to her, nodding in thanks for her help. That's when it dawned on him, was she going to the ball too? He didn't know, so he asked. "Are you going to the Governor's ball? I mean -- I am -- I'm just curious if you are as well."

are we not going to talk about the fact that the president of the united states during ww2 held a speech for Norway?? the speech is called "Look to Norway". I don't know if other countries got a speech like this from him but we sure did💌🇳🇴

Vaguely remembered this, so had to look it up - very beautiful speech really 💖 It was held in relation to name one of the US's ships after the Norwegian King, and is about how the Norwegian story during WWII should inspire other Nations to fight, stand strong, and never give up ✨

alias/es: drucilla is an alias, adopted to hide herself from marines. it came from a book she liked as a kid. pritchard came later, to honor the woman that took her in as a teenager.

ethnicity: white (irish)

one picture you like: this in particular because i imagine it as one of her freer, happier moments. in a modern au, it was taken during college.

three hcs you never told anyone:

learned her forgery skills, not from any pirate or wayward character she met on her own, but her parents. her parents were not above forging signatures to keep a roof over their head while on the run. she picked up mimicking voices from people watching, and duplicating art through her natural predilection for painting. in her modern verse, it’s how she’s made extra money.

her first kill was through her devil fruit. ended up with her jaws around their lower torso, savaging the boy. she threw up for an hour afterward due to the taste of blood (and how much she liked it), and with how much she was regarded as a monster, and since then, puts her swordsmanship first and uses her power as backup. it’s worked better this way for the element of surprise.

despite her flighty, self-saving habits, she’s incredibly loyal. she’s someone who can pull stories from even the most curmudgeonly people. will honor debts even if it’s more work on her end. she loves hard after years of being afraid to.

three things your character likes doing in their free time:

art. she’s a painter primarily, but sketches too. she doesn’t have much room to paint while on the sea, but in times when she has a stable place on land, hanging up her own art helps it feel like home. when she paints, she'll get it in her hair and on her clothes. many times, she leaves the splotches, liking the way it looks.

rock climbing. she’s always been fond of being out in nature, but after ten years of climbing ropes aboard pirate ships, she’s come to enjoy the familiarity and feel of being able to pull herself out of anything.

thrifting/antique shopping. she’s a great haggler with a good eye for special finds, but she also takes great appreciation in the history and make of items.

three four people your character loves (or important people mentioned in her canon):

iona pritchard. adoptive mother of sorts, village fortune teller that would never tell her if her powers were real or not. drucilla regrets keeping up a misguided wall between them, in holding tight to the memory of her birth parents. she took iona’s last name after her death.

isabela rivaini. captain and greatest friend. when drucilla found herself alone again and struggling, she met isabela and, after swapping similar stories, joined her crew. isabela taught her how to wield a sword, how to fight, how to sail. in return, drucilla gave her her utmost loyalty and use of her devil fruit powers.

dracule mihawk. this can be switched out if she ever interacts with another mihawk, but as i’ve used mine to flesh out her character, he’s become quite important to her story. he does her the greatest favor of aiding her in rescuing isabela, which cements her loyalty and affection, and in doing so, they find a kindred soul in each other. he calls out her bullshit, and she never lets his attitude daunt her.

rob lucci. this can be switched out if she ever interacts with another lucci, but as i've used mine to flesh out her character, he's become important to her story. they were childhood friends, both being orphans, before he was taken to guanhao. the loss hurt her deeply, until many years later when they reunited on opposite sides of the government / pirate divide.

two things your character regrets:

packing up and leaving after a fight with iona without letting her or the friends drucilla had made know. when drucilla came back to the village later, iona had died, and she was too guilt-ridden to check in with anyone else.

looking the other way when others were in life or death moments because she was more focused on saving her own skin.

two phobias your character has:

thunderstorms make her uneasy because she nearly drowned during one. she’s had a few close calls, but this one in particular was by far the closest. she felt her body start to shut down as she watched her crew get pulled under the water too.

the conflicting ideas that there’s either nothing after death or instead of heaven waiting for her, it’ll be hell, for all the horrible things she’s done.

extra headcanons:

can sing very well. in her band au with @a11sunday, she's a singer-songwriter tired of writing for other people who strikes out on her own at open mic nights.

knowledgeable about plants and flowers to an unexpected degree that comes from the brief period she was on her own. she usually has flower detailing on her clothes that she sews herself.

her first wanted poster doesn’t show all of her face, instead showing only her scarred eye and lower ¼th of her face peeking out from under the brim of her hat, like this. her updated poster after marineford shows the entirety of her face.

while she’s the type to be slow to rise in argument, usually having not necessarily a good head, but can pick and choose when she lets go of her anger, she has been banned from at least two bars across the four quadrants for threatening to bite someone and making good on it once.

This is probably the most inflammatory thing I've said in a while, but

Something really bothers me about the insistence that Deaton is a benevolent force of good, when the proof is that he is helpful to Scott.

And he is helpful to Scott. Just like Peter can be helpful to Derek. The problem with both of those is that, generally, they are ONLY helpful to Scott and Derek, and always have plans and schemes of their own.

Scott had no choice in who his emissary was. He didn't know WHAT an emissary was. Deaton positioned himself nicely there. He showed Stiles how to use mountain ash and then was like "actually, nevermind."

Does this mean Deaton is an evil sleaze? No. But that doesn't mean he's aboveboard. He lies and manipulates, he just happens to favour Scott.

As I write this out, I think it's the insinuation that Derek is just an untrusting asshole and not someone who is more attuned to recognising an adult man who is pushing a teenage boy to do things that maybe he wouldn't do normally. IE, the mountain ash thing at the end of Season 2. It didn't help in the fight against the kanima. It didn't even kill Gerard! It just... was a shitty thing that happened.

I know people say that it's fanon that Deaton had any involvement in that, but uh. Scott didn't pull mountain ash out of his ass and distill it into pill form.

Sadly, I think that moment + the true alpha thing happening in quick succession kind of made us divide into different camps, and now we're fighting the same war forever, but I think there's wiggle room here.

Deaton isn't evil but he isn't a paragon of virtue. Scott is lionhearted but self-righteous. Derek is slow to trust, but once he does trust, he's loyal. No one on this show is perfect.

I will, however, always support Derek Hale's wrongs.

fandom tends to divide it self into these all or nothing dichotomies that does such a disservice to the story and characters.

the whole scott versus derek debate should've been left behind in season 2. season 3 spent so much goddamn time on them moving past it. the entire episode of frayed was dedicated to the scott and derek relationship, you know.

derek wasn't even like mad about scott becoming an alpha either. scott merely wasn't his alpha just like he was never scott's but they had accepted that by that point. if anything derek was proud of scott.

besides scott becoming a true alpha and derek giving up his alpha status to save his sister was them both being at different places in their character arcs but also when you look at the hows and whys of it all they both were manipulated into it. for different reasons.

peter and deaton mirror and foil each other in interesting ways.

deaton is such a fascinating character and a prime example of doyalist versus watsonian perspectives.

he is so enigmatic in-verse because he was used mostly for exposition and lore drops by the writers but in turn this made the character very reserved, careful and calculating. he keeps his own counsel.

early in season 1 stiles is jealous of derek acting like scott's "yoda" but all the while deaton slips into the position of being scott's mentor. he becomes the obi-wan without either derek or stiles noticing. deaton definitely shares old ben's "from a certain point of view" philosophy.

i know people have been weird about deaton over the years in unpleasant and let's be real here racist ways which is unfortunate and dumb. he isn't evil. he just has his own motivations and agenda which is a good thing because characters are flat and boring otherwise. like yeah it's frustrating that deaton didn't tell derek he was talia's emissary but wow look at that character conflict, look at the added depth to deaton and to the lore in one decision.

i really am looking forward to my rewatch so i can dissect his character and pay more attention to him because i have thoughts about him and his sister marin.

i think one of my favorite things about deaton is that he chose scott to be the chosen one in a way. look at currents when deaton tells scott what a true alpha is.

deaton: it's rare-- it's something that doesn't happen within a hundred years. but, every once in a while, a beta can become an alpha without having to steal or take that power. they call it a true alpha. it's one that rises purely on the strength of character, by virtue, by sheer force of will. scott: ...you knew this would happen. deaton: i believed. from the moment I knew you were bitten, i believed.

and i love the contrast to marin saying in alpha pack:

"and I sent her to do what I've always done-- maintain the balance"

to deaton's regression of the mean:

deaton: gave you ever heard the term "regression to the mean?" scott: no... deaton: it's a bit of a technical way of saying things will always even out. scott: like, things will always get better? deaton: more like... things can't always be bad. scott: so, no matter how bad things get-- deaton: --or how good-- scott: they always come back to the middle.

they both want balance but don't seem to agree what balance looks like or how to achieve it.

i cannot wait to pick his character apart.

Murtogg still was a bit baffled b the fact Theo ad just went from a crow to a human like it was nothing. The marine a lot of questions that he wanted answered. He wasn't sure how to go about asking them however, without sounding like an utter madman. So he wasn't a wizard or a sorcerer, but how did he do that with magic? It baffled Richard, but then again the marine saw a lot in his time in Port Royal.

"Did it ... hurt? I mean turning into a bird and all? Does it hurt when y'do it?" he finally asked, unsure if he should be worried about his friend being in pain from literally transforming in-front of him. He squinted his eyes, before frowning in concern. He appeared Theo cautiously for some reason, afraid if he touched him it would hurt the other man. Tilting his head and listened to him speak about magic and all.

Something about it made him curious. He was fairly interested in such things but never talked about it openly. He did believe in merfolk and the Black Pearl as he did see it coming to Jamaica aboard the Dauntless. He and a select few others aboard the ship saw it that say in the fog when they rescued the young Will Turner, the blacksmith. Nobody however believed Richard when he told them he saw the infamous ship that day.

"I take it you can't just learn it either. Must be a family thing. Still ... " the marine questioned, taking a few deep breaths as he tried to make sense of it. " ... I think it's pretty interesting." he was still amazed with his friend's abilities and all.

"Ah..." Theodore's voice trailed off before he could really formulate an answer and he twirled the feather about in his fingers as he tried to think. "I don't precisely know how to explain, but I'm not a witch or sorcerer, nothing like that. Though my uncle could perhaps be considered as such." He leaned forward and passed the feather over to Richard, "It's something I have always been able to do, and I believe it has something to do with my feathers."

The fey sat straddled on the chair and folded his arms to rest against the back of it to speak to his friend. Again he was silent, "I'm told that somewhere far back in our family was Raven, I don't know if he was a bird, a person, some pagan deity or what. But that is where the magic comes from." Theodore shrugged, "My uncle calls Raven a 'trickster' and he says that is what I am also - which is why he never permitted me to learn anything about magic itself."

He sat back and took a breath, "I suppose it used to be more common in our family and we could do things with magic, but of my brothers and I, I'm the only one who has feathers. Of my mother and uncle, he is inherited it. I guess their parents didn't have any magic, so it skips about sometimes. But...that's all there is, at least, that's all I know.

Her seven dogs are absolutely loyal to her and in a battle are focused and well trained. But outside of battle, they are just typical goofy dogs, very affectionate with their owner but also affectionate to just about anyone that seems friendly.)

Kyoko Iro (Kyoko is a Geisha who was trying to become an Oiran in Wano when a rival Geisha sent assassins after her in order for her to become Oiran instead. Kyoko had to flee home and was left scared and unsure of people. Though the way she fled, she ended up captured before being released who knows where.)

Xia Malificia (A flirtatious, trouble making pirate who ate the fox zoan fruit. Her favorite thing to do is charm unsuspecting pirates or marines and robbing them blind. Also has many AUs including a Mirror Maiden Genshin Impact AU!)

Adopted by kind Hyurs, she lived in poverty  but didn’t let it bother her and worked to protect her family. After discovering the Echo, she happened upon a member of the Scions and decided to join and travel away from home. becoming a Warrior of Light. Has a League of Legends verse!)

Orabella Kalon (A Summoner from the First, Orabella is a scholar seeking to learn about the magic of her world. After wandering into the pixie land, she ends up captured but free some time later when Titania is defeated. Now she lives there studying the pixies. Also has a Genshin Impact verse as a Cryo Fatui Mage!)

Selene Fenagari: (Selene is…a dork. Easily distracted and acts rather dog-like, loving getting petted, chasing balls or animals, or even shifting and barking at cats. When on duty, she does her absolute best, serving the Gotei 13 in stopping villains or just protecting the people while out on patrol. Despite her silly antics, the people adore her and shower her with gifts and headpats.)

Pokemon:

Hex Maniac Kayleen:(Kayleen grew up around the occult, her parents super into it and trying to summon the paranormal as well as learn magic. Kayleen was terrified of it but slowly learned to embrace it when she met a friendly Gastly. From there she befriended other ghost and dark Pokemon, the scaredy-cat girl not enjoying it from time to time.

For a long time she was super shy and had social anxiety, but decided to be brave and try to face it by becoming a Pokemon trainer. Now alongside her ghost and dark type Pokemon cheering her on, she desires to learn and make friends and meet Pokemon she has never seen before. Has a Soul Eater verse under Alt. Verses!)

Naruto:

Midori Mihata (A clumsy, scared ninja girl who one would possibly say is the worst ninja ever. Wants to make her clan proud and tries hard to be the best she can be. Also gets rather flustered and shy around boys. Has a FF14 verse!)

Kiyomi Tenshi (Loud, rambunctious, and rather hyper and reckless, Kiyomi is also one that some would possibly say is a terrible ninja. She fights more like a martial artist, punching and kicking and running straight into bad guys.)

Naoko Shizuko (The only one who acts like a true ninja in the trio of Kunoichi, Naoko is soft spoken, almost monotone voice and always with an unreadable expression. Despite this, she is incredibly smart and well trained in her ninja techniques which involve shadow tricks. She is the one to get the other two out of danger most of the time.)

Fire Emblem Three Houses:

Diana Fotieni (Diana comes from Faerghus and is striving to become a knight of the kingdom like her mother before her. A student at the academy under the Blue Lions house, she is studious and trains hard, mostly to show the head of the house Dimitri her worth as a possible knight as he is heir to the throne. Has a Kingdom Hearts verse and a Final Fantasy XV verse as well!)

Genshin Impact:

Kyana Aeira (A Pyro Vision user from Mondstadt who dreams of becoming a Knight of Favonius one day. She works hard taking on random tasks from the people to prove herself capable. She is determined and optimistic and tends to listen more to her emotions than think with logic. Also has a One Piece verse but also many aus and can fit anywhere with heroes!)

Iyumi Akuma (Iyumi is a Fatui Mage hailing from Snezhnaya who is on the prowl for someone cute she can call hers. To most she acts vicious and snobby, ready to electrocute them should they get on her nerves.

But should she find the someone she wants, she becomes more adoring and flirty, chasing after them until she can have them. Which can turn into an aggressive chase should the other not want her. Also has a Pokemon verse, demon/vampire verse, dark goddess verse and many more!)

Amatus Koheikaze (A Oni girl from the Red Oni tribe of Inazuma, Amatus works hard as a samurai of her clan, fighting with a katana as well as using her Anemo vision. Though she acts rather serious, she holds a softer side that cares deeply for her tribe, desiring to protect them no matter what. Her mother is a human while her father is an Oni.)

My Hero Academia:

Tia “Usagi” Fayte (Bubbly kind of girly girl whose quirk is magnetism. She can make anything she touches become magnetic, even things that aren’t normally something you can stick magnets to like trees. She uses this alongside rollerblading to fight and calls herself Usagi for the jump tricks she can pull off while blading around. A student at UA. Also has a The World Ends with You verse!)

Kalliphae Myressei (A moth woman with the ability to heal others using a powder that emits from her. She is a princess of a far off kingdom. Acts with a noble air and always tries to follow her heart. She is a nurse of UA.)

Yugioh:

Miyuki Tenshi (A sweet, innocent duelist who uses a deck with angelic creatures revolving around the Sanctuary in the Sky card. She has a duel spirit, Happy Lover, and has yet to meet anyone else with one or that can see her. Has a Goddess verse alongside Iyumi, a Fairy verse and an Angel verse!)

Monster Hunter:

Sonafuwa(A Paolumu who gained the ability to turn human. Sonafuwa is shy and tends to stay in the trees and away from hunters so she won’t get hunted. When she meets someone friendly, she becomes more calm and is happy to make a new friend)

Sakura (A Pink Rathian that gained the ability to turn human. Territorial at first but can become friendly if she sees the other means no harm. Prissy and doesn’t mind Hunters so long as she isn’t their target.)

Twisted Wonderland:

Colette Eirina (Twisted from Giselle from Enchanted! Colette is the princess of a small kingdom. It’s surrounded by a river, forest and mountains in the back, the kingdom known for its mining of gems from those mountains.

Colette usually stays in her castle but got accepted into RSA as a student. She tends to cause a lot of trouble at home with her ditzy behavior. In fact her air headed ways gets her kidnapped and held for ransom a lot which has really hurt the kingdom financially.)

Fandomless:

Kishi MacAuley (The self proclaimed Captain of an all girl pirate crew calling themselves the Love Seekers. Kishi is hyper and boy crazy as well as a tad reckless, willing to go through any danger if it means finding cute guys and treasure along the way)

Zalira Deona: (A succubus who doesn’t really do succubus things. Her mom and dad are a powerful incubus and succubus pair who wanted her to follow in their footsteps. But all Zalira wanted was to laze around and eat human snacks and indulge in their culture (like manga!). Before they could send her to a demon academy, she ran away from home and ended up among humans.)

Cheza Fènghuáng (Princess of the city of Nán Sòng, Cheza is rather anti-social and a major bookworm, usually seen cooped up in her private library. Her kingdom is a matriarchy, led by her mischievous mother. Cheza has the ability to conjure fire and turn into a phoenix)

Seraphaura(Seraphaura is from a clan of lamias who hunt humans for fun and for food while also eating other things. But Seraphaura is completely different from them. She has seen an innocent human devoured and wishes to protect them and learn about them. Because of this, her clan laughed at her and was bullied and ridiculed for it. But despite that, she still wishes to learn about humans and their culture.)

Vivianne Noira (Growing up alone in the world has hardened Vivi. She can be untrusting towards strangers though some have shown her some kindness to help her out. She can come off as brash, even possibly rude. But she doesn’t mean to be. Vivi feels she must be tough in order to survive. However if she sees someone in need, she may go out of her way to help them depending on what they need help with.)

Angeline Tenebris(A vampire from a family of vampires sworn to keep their race a secret. They are respected nobles of a town, well-known for their business and wealth. Though most of her family tries to keep their status clean, Angeline is a bit rebellious and curious about the world and frequently sneaks out to learn more about it.)

Fayeth Neri (A dragon girl who is rather air-headed and sometimes slow to speak, making it seem like nothing is going on in her head. And maybe nothing is. She is very laid back and cheerful, always having a lazy smile on her face.)

Chloe Thaleia (Mischievous thief from a family of thieves looking for her older brother who left home when she was a child. Will steal from you playfully then give it back once she’s caught. Has a magical greatsword she stole that can use the four elements but she has no idea how to use it.)

Aiolos Thaleia (Older brother of Chloe. After witnessing his uncle (who had taught them all they know about being a thief) break the family code by murdering someone, he decided to go on a different path and leave the family. He strives to be a knight or a guard, something he sees as more honorable.)

Ai Malificia (A sweet, innocent girl who was sheltered due to her overprotective parents. She grew up around flowers and a flower shop and developed magic pertaining to plants. Has a Fire Emblem Three Houses verse and a Goddess verse!)

Azathira (Sci Fi OC! Azathira is a well trained assassin alien. Her species thrives in being the best at fighting and killing and she is no different. She makes her living taking on bounties and delights in taking them down. Then uses the money to partake in a feast wherever she goes.

On the side, she sometimes steals things as well, mostly from the person she killed. She travels around taking jobs and simply exploring the universe all on her own. Though a small part of her almost wishes she could have some company for once.)

Ourania Thanos (A dragon that can turn into a human. Cocky, egotistical, and loves to  show off to others. Loves to fight people just to fight strong opponents  and also loves to eat lots of meat and drinks lots of ale.)

Nikki Irving(An oddball Alchemist of a girl who stumbled upon a cursed Eldritch Being who had been shrunk and turned into a tiny octopus. She decided to keep it as a pet, named it Tickles, and has no idea it is slowly influencing her mind. Has a Pokemon verse!)
