It wasn’t often that Maxim went out on patrol for the Knights—they usually kept patrols in general to a minimum, but Riddle had grown nervous since the rally—and it was even less often that he would be partnered with Ravenna, but both of those things had happened that evening. Maxim wasn’t looking forward to it. Even though he was a full grown adult with a job and plenty of accomplishments, Ravenna had a way of making him feel like he was nothing more than a petulant child. He hated it, mostly because he wasn’t clever or quick-witted enough to come up with a good response. 

He had his hands behind his back, his wand tucked up his sleeve, as they made their way down a darkened Diagon Alley. “How have you been?” he asked. Easy. Safe. IF she was going to be cruel, well, Maxim would just take out his anger on whichever unfortunate halfblood they came across.

it’s always the quiet ones Mother would say and she never knew how right she was. with her delicate ballet shoes and her hair secured at the back of her head, one would never suspect one ravenna carrow to be the avid, cold-blooded assassin she was. a faint, charming smile would do wonders, when flashed at the right people, to avert all eyes elsewhere -- anywhere but her blood-stained hands. unlike most of her peers, she was quiet and diligent and said yes, mother when she was supposed to and mostly kept to herself. perhaps, it was that lack of desire to be noticed that should have alerted the carrows about the mature games their daughter was playing.

the chaos that ensued once the magic had been drained from the arena was enormous. four people died in the stampede to get to the door, another two in fights. it was mayhem the likes of which the wizarding world hadn’t seen since the previous wizarding war. 

after about five hours, a voice boomed out over the entire arena. 

remember this. expect me. 

then, with a sound like a thundercrack and a crackle of electricity that zapped around the upper edge of the arena like lightning, the doors opened and magic came flooding back. slowly, everyone started to regain control of their powers, and all that was left to do was report what was found to the aurors. 

dorothy min and arjun patil found a trapdoor under the stage, but upon further investigation, found that the door leading outside was locked tightly. 

aybige shafiq found what looked like large radio antennas encircling the top of the arena, but couldn’t understand what they were for. 

ravenna carrow found an agent of the man on stage, but killed him when he refused to give up any information. 

callidora and charis black found a script with what the man said on stage, edited and revised multiple times in multiple colors of ink. 

by the end of the day, everyone was too exhausted by the events to even consider fighting amongst themselves. blood equality didn’t matter when everyone’s powers were at stake.

The Black Family was one of the most prestigious families of the Sacred Twenty-Eight, though they didn’t get where they were without a little bloodshed. Her father, Arcturus, had been guilty of it-- as had many of their ancestors before them. As a follower of Grindelwald and now Tom Riddle, Charis was only giving into her family’s destiny. They’d be wicked and vile forever as long as it meant they could uphold their status and power. 

Other Sacred family members weren’t strangers to trying to get in with the Blacks. However when Charis’ father publicly voiced his support for Grindelwald in the years before he died, it put a target on the backs of his daughters. Most supporters did so in secret, and no one wanted to risk the outing of their secret by being seen with any of the Black daughters. Even other parts of Charis’ family shunned them in public so they wouldn’t get outsed themselves. So it was no shock that while in school, Ravenana Carrow had done the same thing. Charis was so lonely and when she thought Ravenna was a friend, she was never there to defer any bullies. They’d been adults for some time now, and Charis was working on putting those petty school games behind her.

“Abraxas got fairly splinched after a rushed Apparition.” She spoke as soon as she spotted Ravenna at her workplace. “You have a few minutes to stop his wailing?” Charis’ eyes rolled. She’d wished she’d been the one entrusted with the job of Minister, and was in fact shocked to be given second-in-command after her work for Grindelwald.
