Amaryllis, Gardenia, Heather, and White Violet from the world's least subtle sea captain
Tumblr media
send zelda flowers! Amaryllis: your worth is beyond beauty ; your beauty is splendid Gardenia: i no longer wish to hide my love for you Heather: i wish to bestow unto you my protection White Violet: i ask you to take a chance on me
The Queen of Hyrule was no stranger to the fact that flowers could possess meanings. While she may not have recalled the sentiment of each (there were too many flowers to commit them all to memory, especially when different colors from the same flower could have different meanings), she had read and learned of their meanings at a time when she’d also sought to learn how different plants could be useful for various remedies, particularly when it came to healing.
There had been one or two stories she’d come across during her studies where creative royals had utilized flowers to secretly bestow a slap to the face to a person of their choosing, though the receiver had usually been convinced that the bouquets were symbols of friendship, alliance, or affection. Thus, she'd fallen into the rabbit hole of learning their symbolic meaning alongside their healing properties.
The Gerudo captain had come and gone often enough by now that she was no stranger around Hyrule’s castle. The guards knew Urbosa as the queen’s esteemed guest, which meant she was free to come and go as she pleased (though they did still escort her to and from the palace’s doors when Zelda herself was not in her presence). There were several maids that even smiled up at the crimson-haired beauty that towered over them, as they’d too come to recognize her as a familiar face.

When there was a knock at the door of the Hylian royal’s study, she’d suspected it was the sea captain once again escorted by the royal sentries, as they’d made plans to meet that evening. What Zelda hadn’t anticipated was being greeted by a beautiful bouquet with the most carefully crafted arrangement the moment she’d called out, granting the person beyond the door permission to enter.
Still seated behind her desk, she watched as Urbosa moved across the room in a few graceful strides, the guards having already dismissed themselves and shut the door behind them to grant the pair some privacy.
It didn’t take Zelda long to identify each of the pieces that made up the bouquet, though she was having trouble recalling each of their meanings. The flower, leaf, and plant top of Heather could be used to make medicine to fight inflammation and aid in wound healing, but symbolically it was used to convey protection (or a desire to protect). The Amaryllis with its beautiful, snow white petals was the star of the show in this particular arrangement, and the Goddesses’s descendant recalled they were valued for their antiviral and antiparasitic properties. They were also used to express admiration of one’s beauty — no surprise given the large bulbs themselves were rather beautiful.
But the Gardenias and white Violets….while Zelda could recall their medicinal uses, she could not remember the meanings behind them.
Rising to her feet, the Hylian maiden watched as the other woman extended the bouquet to her, the arrangement wrapped carefully in delicate white paper and adorned with a purple bow the complimented the colors in Zelda’s own dress. “For me?” Without waiting to receive confirmation, Zelda batted her long lashes at Urbosa as she reached forward to accept the bouquet before rolling onto the very tips of her toes, placing a brief kiss to the woman’s bronzed and still warm cheek in thanks.
“Is there any particular reason you selected these flowers? Or did you simply think the arrangement beautiful?”
