when did your muse first arrive in yuseong bay?: about a year and a half ago.

what does an average day look like for your muse?: wake up around 6/6:30am, get ready for the day, have breakfast, go to jeju city for classes until around 1pm (unless it's a tuesday or wednesday in which case she doesn't have classes and instead reports to work @ cheongdanhae clinic until 3pm), maybe hit the recreational center gym or go run errands (or go home for a bit and clean if necessary), she's usually free by 6pm and will spend the rest of her evening socializing in some capacity (i.e chatting her shit at the bar or going out to a club in the city with her friends), have a late dinner, go to bed by 10:30pm.

where can your muse usually be found?: literally everywhere... she's the girl who u start to think is either (a) a ghost or (b) stalking you because she's all over the place. most often found at 88& bar, eclectique 33, the recreation center's gym, lemon martes, or lounging on the beach. every now and then she'll secure a seat at andante cafe to do work on her laptop / people-watch. checks out the farmer's market every weekend.

how does your muse feel about hanwha resort?: well... her dad was one of the construction supervisors, so if we're being honest, she's pretty alright with it. open to hearing people out / will likely change her opinion as she hears & observes how the resort affects locals.

is there an aspiration for your muse to stay in or leave yuseong bay?: currently, the only reason she's still in yuseong bay is because the rent's cheaper than it is in jeju city and she also doesn't want to transfer out to another school again after she had to transfer to jeju natl university. will likely move back to seoul after she graduates, as the slow small community life is not for her.

selena is 100% mexican, but was born in new york and has spent a majority of her life in south korea. speaks fluent spanish and her parents cultivated a very "mexican" environment in the home growing up but there's obviously a disconnect that selena was never fully able to bridge, and consequently has felt like an outsider pretty much her entire life.

speaks fluent korean, very familiar with korean culture and customs and has korean citizenship but she is a perpetual foreigner. has constantly experienced not being taken seriously, being talked down to, being cut excessive slack because "she doesn't know any better", being stared at, being denied access to certain places because she's a foreigner even though she's literally a citizen, etc etc etc. so it goes. it used to bother her and it still kind of does, but after a while she realized she had to take it with a grain of salt. luckily it's not so bad anymore now that non-korean ppl in korea are more common of a sight.

was spoiled rotten growing up. wasn't rich, but her dad made more than enough money to provide for her & her mom and then treat them to nice things as well; often ended up not having much leftover of paychecks, but he's the type to view money as something that you can't take with you when you die, so no point in not spending it...

got a lot of compliments from her parents throughout her life as well. was never made to feel like she wasn't good enough, wasn't impressing them, wasn't succeeding, etc etc etc. they raised her to be incredibly confident and forward. she knows what she wants and she's confident in asking for or pursuing those things.

unfortunately, she's not much of an independent girlboss </3 loves her mom so bad and will never speak an ill word of her, but one error she made in raising selena was making her believe (a) as a woman, beauty is the most important thing and the only way to be respected and (b) women must always have a man supporting them. these aren't things that selena consciously believes, but things that are so embedded in her subconscious that they guide how she lives. type of girl to always have a bf or always have a date lined up, puts on a full face of makeup + does her hair + wears a nice outfit just to run errands, so on and so forth. forgive her...

what else is there to say that i haven't already said... she's super chatty & friendly. mostly a girl's girl, but can be a little jealous if her friends are doing better than she is. likes to go clubbing. likes to gossip, and often ends up accidentally spreading rumors. has a notebook full of love letters. she has two jobs: one in which she works the front desk @ cheongdanhae clinic, and the other is a remote info-inputting job for the local pharmacy. she used to work in-person at the pharmacy, but was moved to a remote position due to the fact that she kept waving co-pay fees. she's a sucker; tell her anything and she'll believe it. does a lot of things that she regrets 2 hours later.

What have you been up to today? Anything interesting? I decided to be a 14 year old again and watched video clips of my OG, ride or die, absolute favorite OTP this morning and I fangirled like it was 2012 lol. I haven’t revisited that ship in around six or seven years so it was surreal to see their scenes all over again and I was beaming all morning hahaha. Other than that, I do have a meeting in an hour but I find that more blah than interesting... WHYYYYY I volunteered for a shitload of extracurricular positions before this quarantine started, I’ll never know. What was the last thing you ate? My sister had found this bread recipe on YouTube last night and I loooooved what she made, so I asked her to make it again this morning. Do you know how to knit? Who taught you? We were taught in Grade 6 by our home economics teacher, but 1) I wasn’t interested and 2) kinesthetic learning has never been my forte, so I wasn’t able to follow from as early as step 1. What state or territory were you born in? Continued the day after, lol oops. I was born in Manila. Are you the type of person to dwell on the past? Only in such a way that I prefer to hold grudges, so on that front I’m technically perpetually dwelling on the past. I can get over other stuff relatively easily.

Are there many traffic incidents in your area? There’s a usual bottleneck spot three minutes away that gets really bad in the evening when everyone is trying to get home, but the traffic becomes a lot more loose when you get to the part of the highway leading to my village. What's your favourite genre of music? I vibe with R&B and some indie rock the best. Have you ever been for a ride in the back of a truck? No, I think that’s mostly illegal here lol. People usually ride the back of pickup trucks when they’re inside gated areas, but it’s a different story once they get to the highway. Are you currently downloading anything? Nope. I haven’t (illegally) downloaded a book since March-ish, and a movie since...2016, maybe. Have you seen any good movies lately? Tell me about them. Nah I prefer shows these days. The last good one I watched was Descendants of the Sun; it really lives up to the hype and is genuinely one of the better Korean dramas out there. It centers on a special forces captain and doctor and how their lives and respective careers intertwine in a war-stricken country. Does your father have any facial hair? He grows it but he shaves it off regularly. What's your favourite thing to eat for breakfast? Ideally it would be Eggs Benedict, but realistically I really like scrambled eggs, bacon, and fried rice. Did your grandparents teach you anything? My maternal grandpa was one of the smartest people I knew and from the second I was born he loved giving me little facts about every topic that could possibly exist, but especially about history and how things work or are made. My maternal grandma is super traditional and taught me more maternal and old-school stuff like how to be more ladylike, the different benefits of vegetables (like how carrot and squash are good for your eyes haha), and random facts about Christianity – basically stuff you’d expect from an Asian grandma lol. Because I didn’t really grow up with my paternal grandparents and since they’re a lot more reserved to begin with, I haven’t gotten the chance to learn a lot from them.

Do you want/have a Bachelor's degree? I want one and I’m on my way to getting it, but because of Covid the road to graduating has been slower than normal. The college has already decided and we’re only going to have an online graduation which really bums me out, and that’s gonna happen by late July. Have you ever written a song for or about somebody? I’ve never written a song, period. What are the longest and shortest romantic relationships you've been in? I’ve only had two stints and they’ve been with the same person. i. background.

taemin jeong was a freshman at the university of queensland, studying computer science, when he met his future girlfriend grace kim, who was studying architecture. he was awkward and bumbling while she was sociable and graceful ( no pun intended ), but somehow the couple was a perfect match from the moment they met in freshman algebra. they made their friends sick with their love and moved through the challenges of college with one another. 

the summer before their senior year, they moved into their own off-campus apartment. this same summer, grace discovered that she was pregnant with their first and only child, who the couple later named sofia. when the couple graduated, sofia was three months old and featured in a lot of their graduation photos. 

after their graduation, though, things for the couple began to fall apart. while taemin wanted to marry grace and have a family, grace was feeling trapped as she wasn’t expecting to have a child so soon. so, one day when taemin took sofia to visit his parents, grace packed her things and one picture of their daughter before leaving a note for taemin.

to put it lightly, taemin was heartbroken upon discovery that grace was gone, but he couldn’t sulk for long as he had a wide eyed seven month old to care for. so from that point on, taemin focused on his career and sofia. he thankfully had the help of his parents while he worked long hours to save money, but after two years they moved into their forever home.

growing up, sofia’s life was pretty normal, despite the fact that her mom wasn’t around. there were times where things were tight in the one parent household, but for the most part sofia has no complaints about her childhood. much like a lot of people, sofia was a kid who liked filming weird videos with her friends and doing absolutely nothing with them other than leaving them on the computer for her dad to find.

the very first beauty youtuber that sofia ever watched ( like a lot of people ) was michelle phan ! she absolutely fell in love with michelle and began wanting to do her own makeup videos as well. she made a really crappy channel when she was like ... twelve and let’s just say that the video she made was horrific ! like most youtubers, her channel’s name was like like sofiaposybeauty60 or something ugly like that.

a few years later, when she was about fifteen, sofia tried her hand at youtube once again. this time she made a twitter and instagram to correspond with it, hoping that she could build something of a platform. her videos were of terrible quality and her makeup was probably really bad, but she did it anyways. she’d post her makeup looks on instagram and when that grew, so did her channel.

skipping along because i talk too damn much, now at twenty two, sofia has five million subscribers on youtube and 1.6 million followers on her instagram. if i were to compare her to an actual youtuber, i’d say she’s a mix between jenn im and sophia chang. she’s very much into staying in her own lane and her videos are pretty ~aesthetic and chill. she has her own online clothing store as well called ( something, idk yet ).

anyways, sofia made the move to barcelona from brisbane about a year and a half ago because she wanted a change of scenery. she came to barcelona previously on a trip with some girlfriends and after a while of planning, she made the move ! she currently lives in a cozy little apartment with her eight month old goldendoodle named rockie !

ii. appearance.

sofia’s appearance is pretty much canon to rosé’s ! her hair is currently strawberry blonde and is always a variety of such. she likes to change her hair color every so often, but this is the one that’s been around for a while. sofia hasn’t had dark hair since she was about thirteen years old, which is when she first dyed her hair from black to brown. since then, she slowly began to lighten it to where it is now.

when it comes to her sense of style, it’s very much inspired by model off duty. it includes a lot of denim, a lot of black, ankle boots, and sneakers. she’s a big fan of tote bags and is usually always seen with one ( since she’s always carrying around a camera, her laptop, and other little things ). it’s no surprise that she has a container in her closet full of them, but she of course, has her more luxury ones in her collection as well.

for the most part though, when she’s just lounging around her apartment, sofia is super casual. it’s fuzzy socks. it’s oversized tees that swallow her physique. there’s no makeup on her face. she has on her glasses and her hair is piled onto her head in the messiest of messy buns. she’s a huge fan of jewelry though and is hardly ever seen without rings on her fingers and her favorite necklace around her neck.

iii. personality.

vociferous, precisian, and beguiling : when it comes to her positive traits, most of it entails from her career on social media. prior to being on youtube, sofia was more on the quiet side and kept to herself, but since then especially with doing vlogs, she’s more comfortable being the one to start a conversation. she’s a big perfectionist, also stemming from her career, but it’s trickled into behind the camera as well. she doesn’t like to half ass anything, no matter what it may be. and finally, sofia is as charming as ever. she can charm the pants off of anything with a little eye glimmer and a hair flip, she’s got them in the bag.

advantageous, negligible, and censorious : as for her negative traits, sofia is advantageous in regard that she knows how to work people into believing that she’s the best choice for them. it’s how she’s gotten most of her sponsorships -- sometimes her manager jokes with her that she doesn’t really need him. sofia is super petty as well, which is actually bad -- she’s the girl who doesn’t let ignorant comments slip on her instagram or twitter, but sometimes all it does is get her into trouble with her public relations team. finally, sofia can be critical of people at times, even if she doesn’t mean it in a malicious way. maybe it stems from being analyzed constantly herself, but she can sometimes immediately regret it after it’s been said unless it’s someone that she doesn’t get along with.

It took about two weeks for things to get back to normal between you and Doyoung, and the Dreamies as well. Things were awkward for a while because you were still coming to terms with the fact that your boyfriend and best friends sometimes kill people.

You had quite a few interesting conversations with them in the past week about what they do.

“So what do you guys actually do?” You ask the boys sitting in front of you.

You were hanging out with the Dreamies and Doyoung trying to wrap your mind around the fact that they are all in a gang.

“Whatever Taeyoong tells us to do,” Jisung shrugs.

“So he’s like your leader?” You question.

“Yup,” Mark says.

“And like,” you pause, “you all own guns?” You ask feeling slightly intimidated by the atmosphere in the room.

“We do,” Jeno sighs.

Your questions were random because you were asking the guys the first things that come into your mind still trying work everything out. Doyoung scoots closer to you on the couch and grabs one of your hands, sensing your uneasiness, and rubs soothing circles onto the back of your hand with his thumb. After a while a realization hits you and you gasp loudly yanking the hand Doyoung is holding out of his grip and cover your mouth with it.

“Do you guys do drugs?” You whisper yell.

Everyone in the room bursts out laughing and you don’t know what it means, you look at them like they are crazy. You were asking a serious questions.

“Gangs aren’t always what they make them out to be in the movies babe,” Doyoung chuckles grabbing your hand again.

“Yeah, we just protect whats ours,” Donghyuk shrugs, “and sometimes that involves beating up a few people along the way.”

“Slow down Donghyuk,” Doyoung warns.

“No, I want to know all of this stuff.” You say softly.

You were currently in the coffee shop just down the street from your apartment block sitting on Doyoungs lap with the rest of NCT. The cafe was emptied of all the customers as soon as you and your eighteen friends walked in, this happened a lot.

Now that you knew about the gang and were accepting of them they were more than willing to hang out with you more. They were all hilarious and super sweet to you, all except for Taeyong, he wasn’t ever harsh or rude to you but he was never as kind to you at the rest of the gang.

“Hey y/n,” you hear Lucas say and you turn to look at the boy, “why did the chicken cross the road?” He asks you.

You sigh and roll your eyes, turning to face Yuta once again leaning to the side slightly pressing your shoulder into your boyfriends chest. Doyoung laughs at your reaction and places one of his arms over your thighs squeezing one of them softly with his warm hand. This happened very often with Lucas and after a few lame jokes you began ignoring him, Lucas didn’t take it to heart and immediately turned towards Jungwoo.

“Hey Jungwoo, why did the chicken cross the road?” He asks trying to suppress his laughs.

You were talking to Doyoung and Yuta about the history of NCT, as much as it freaked you out in the beginning you were starting to become very interested in it, NCT was almost like a family business and all of the current eighteen members basically grew up together, they are all extremely close. You could tell that they loved each other even though they never tell each other that, and they protected each other at all costs, more so the older members looking out for the Dreamies.

“The gang used to be called NCT 127 but it was shortened when we took over,” Yuta carries on telling you about the history of their lives.

“Wait NCT 127?” You furrow your eyebrows, “I recognize that name,” you say trying to remember why it sounds so familiar.

“Enough Yuta,” you hear Taeyong grumble from beside you.

“Come on,” you whine slightly looking at Taeyong, “this is interesting.”

“Yeah,” you hear Jisung agree with you, “I don’t even know this stuff and I’m in the fucking gang.”

“Language!” You hear Kun scold the youngest member.

“It really isn’t that interesting,” Taeyong shrugs and you see a small smile creep onto his face.

“What is this?” You say in a joking tone, “is thee Lee Taeyong smiling at me?”

You hear some of the boys sitting at different spots in the small cafe laugh at your words.

“Whatever,” Taeyong mumbles the smile gone from his face, “do what you want but don’t say I didn’t warn you.”

You raise your arms up in front of you and turn back to Yuta ready to discuss more.

“You recognize the gangs old name?” Doyoung asks you puzzled.

“Mhm,” you hum in response, “When Soojin first told me what NCT was she said she was surprised I didn’t know what it was because you guys are talked about in China as well,” you ponder for a while before carrying on, “I realized that I had heard of you guys before.”

“When?” Doyoung asked you.

“My father used to talk about NCT 127 a lot,” you say still thinking.

“Who’s your father y/n?” Jaehyun asks you joining into the conversation.

“He was the CEO of Red Corp back in China,” you answer absentmindedly, still trying to piece everything together.

“Baby did you just say Red Corp?” Doyoung asks you straightening up in his seat.

“Mhm,” you reply mind still racing trying to find answers.

There are a few moments of silence in which the NCT members all give each other looks of shock that you don’t see.

“You also said that he ‘was’?” You hear Sicheng ask you, “why isn’t he anymore?”

“Him and my mother passed away a while ago,” you answer, you weren’t fully invested in the questions they were asking you because you were trying to remember why your father had spoken about a gang.

You were too deep in your own thoughts that you did not see the knowing and almost guilty looks Taeil, Johnny and Taeyong shared, Doyoung however did notice and made a mental note to ask them about it later.

“I’m going to go,” you say getting up off of your boyfriends lap and grab your phone off the table.

“I’ll come with,” Doyoung says also getting up.

“No stay here,” you smile pushing him back into his seat by his shoulder, “I’m fine,” you quickly peck his lips and begin to walk out of the cafe.

When you open the door and step onto the street you hear Taeyong call your name, you turn around and see him standing holding the door open.

“Don’t look into this to much,” he warns and his tone of voice scares you.

“Okay,” you smile lightly and turn around walking back to your apartment.

When you enter your apartment you quickly open your laptop and turn it on, while it is switching on you unlock your phone and start calling someone.

“y/n?” You hear a happy voice answer.

“Miss Eun,” you sigh happily hearing the voice of the lady who practically raised you after your parents passed for the first time since you came to Korea.

“What can I do for you sweetheart?” She asks, and your heart swells when you hear the nickname fall from her lips.

“I wanted to ask you something,” you start, “about my parents?” You say but it ends up coming out as a question.

“y/n,” she sighs and your heart drops slightly, “you know I can’t answer your questions.”

“But I need to know what happened to them,” you plead and feel tears threatening to fall from your eyes.

They have been gone for seven years and you still don’t know how they died, you have had so many questions since their passing but nobody would answer them.

“I can’t help you sweetheart.” She sighs once again.

You hang up soon after telling her that you have settled well and made some great friends. Once you put your phone down you turn to your laptop and begin doing your own research, you don’t know why you never did this in previous years to find out more about your parents.

After researching for about two hours you come across an article that was written in the same year your parents passed away called ‘NCT vs Red Corp’. As you read the article you feel your heart break and you can’t stop the loud sobs that leave your mouth as your body begins to shake.

You don’t stop crying for the next forty minutes, when you do finally stop your head is throbbing, your shirt is almost soaking wet from your tears, your eyes are burning and your nose is still running. You push yourself up from your fetal position on the couch, you sit up and stare at the wall in front of you blankly feeling rage flow through your body.

You get up slowly and walk to your laptop to print out the article you had just read, you then put on a coat and slowly make your way out of your apartment. You were furious, so furious that everything you were doing felt as if it was in slow motion. You were breathing slow heavy breaths trying to calm yourself down, you were taking slow and heavy steps towards your destination and your thoughts were also flowing through your head in slow motion.

You made your way into the cafe you were at this morning and stood in the doorway looking at the group of people in front of you. They were laughing at something one of them had just said and you let out a bitter chuckle and shake your head at them not believing that such spiteful people are able to laugh.

When they hear you they all turn their heads in your direction, you see a look of confusion wash over their faces and you don’t blame them for it because you know you look like a mess but what you look like is the last thing on your mind right now.

“y/n, what wrong?” You hear your boyfriend ask and see him walk in your direction.

When Doyoung gets closer you shake your head and push past him making your way towards the rest of the men, you could not even look at Doyoung right now.

“Is this true?” You ask Taeyong your voice shaking with anger, holding up the article.

You see him glance at the article and let out a deep sigh, Johnny and Taeil also sigh and hang their heads.

“Is it true?” You ask again emphasizing each word, your voice becoming louder with each syllable as well. Angry tears begin to fall from your eyes and cover your cheeks making your eyes redder than they were before when you came in.

“Baby calm down,” you hear Doyoung say from behind you.

You turn fast on your heel and face Doyoung giving him a fierce look. “No, you don’t get to talk to me right now!” You yell at him, choking on a sob when you finish your sentence.

You turn and face the rest of NCT again, holding up the article once more. Ten walks up to you and takes the papers out of your hands and begins to read it, soon most of the other members get up to read it as well. Everyone except Taeyong, Johnny and Taeil.

You face the three not reading the article you brought and look at them with expectant eyes. They all look at each other before they all look at you with sad guilty eyes and Taeyong nods his head slightly. When you see this you feel your legs give out from under you and you end up in a sobbing pile on the floor.

“y/n.” Renjun says when he sees you fall to the ground and runs over to you to wrap his arms around your shoulders in an attempt to comfort you.

You push him off of you and stand up and wiping your eyes so you are able to see clearly what is in front of you. You see the Dreamies looking at you with sad eyes and the rest of the members look confused. You see Doyoung holding the paper article in his fist so tightly causing it to become wrinkled.

“What the fuck Taeyong,” Doyoung yells angrily throwing the papers onto the floor.

“Woah, calm down man.” Johnny says to Doyoung, walking up to the angry man.

While Johnny, Doyoung, Taeil and Taeyong are yelling at each other you look at the other guys in the coffee shop, they all look upset and the looks in their eyes almost seem as if they didn’t know. However you push that thought to the back of your mind because you have experienced first hand that this group of men in fact tell each other everything.

You turn around and start to leave the cafe, you had gotten the answers you came for and now that you know the truth you want to leave and never come back.

“y/n,” Doyoung stops yelling at his members when he sees you leaving, “don’t go.”

You freeze when you hear him speaking and turn to face him still fuming.

“I buried my parents when I was 12 you asshole.” You cried out, “and it was all your fault.”

“Baby, please,” he says softly and you see tears brimming in his brown eyes, “I didn’t know.”

“Don’t you dare call me that,” you spit referring to the pet name, “and save the lies for some one they will work on Doyoung,” you carry on, “you guys tell each other everything.”

With that you storm out of the cafe and begin running in the opposite direction of your apartment. You hear Doyoung, Mark and Jaemin calling out for you to come back and hear footsteps behind you, you can only assume that they are following you but they soon stop when you hear Johnny calling for them to come back to the cafe.

You run faster, you did not want to be around the people who murdered your parents.

HERE'S WHAT I JUST REALIZED ABOUT YC

I'm not sure myself. The danger of symmetry, repetition and recursion.1 I ask myself what I've found life is too short for, the word that pops into my head is bullshit. The second counterintuitive point is that it's not that important to know a lot of what ends up driving you are the best predictor of how a startup will find the preceding portrait to be missing something: disasters.2 Copernicus' aesthetic objections to equants provided one essential motive for his rejection of the Ptolemaic system. Why do so few founders know whether they're default alive or default dead is that the founders will no longer have complete control. Google. Oh my god, I’m digging through old files on my backup harddrive and I found this dream from 2011 in which me, @antialiasis, and a baby dragon are on the run from The King of Everything.  It is absolutely batshit and I love it:

Okay, so for some reason I was hanging out with Dragonfree.  What the hell, subconscious?  Why do you always stick my online acquaintances into my dreams?  (I think it’s a side effect of that time in my life where all I had were online friends and the fanfic forum was pretty much my entire life, even though that was like 6 years ago.)  But at least this time it sort of makes sense—I’ve been working on an off on the Ouen dragons piece a lot lately, adding little touches here and there when I’m bored, so people often ask me what it is, so I frequently launch into explanations of, “Oh hey there’s this writer with a cool fanfic, and I’m doing fanart of it.”  “Hey what’s it about?”  “Well, it’s kind of hard to explain the plot because it’s basically an awesome reworking of silly ideas from when she was 12.” “ROFL THAT SOUNDS LIKE YOU.” “Erm….yeah.  -_-“

Okay then, random tangent aside I was hanging out with Dragonfree I guess.  No explanation given.  At least my dream self wanted an explanation, though never actually got one.  I was at my home house instead of my school house which makes slightly more sense (If I were European I’d sooner visit the US East coast/NY area than the friggin Midwest.)

Kay, I swear the plot was awesomely detailed and amazing but now it is starting to sound really silly and I’m not sure why I’m writing it down. Dangit.  It started out like...pretty mediocre at my house (or what was supposed to be my house but looked nothing like it, what.)  I think there was some subplot involving something going wrong with her website (some of the layouts weren’t working which was apparently a sign of someone currently stealing things from it?  What??? Also one of the styles was really cool and best described as a matrix Articuno.  YES.)  I dunno. And then there was a hilarious part where my sister walked though the kitchen into the computer room and said something like “When did Beth get here?”  And I’m like “Wtf, that’s not Beth.”  But then I walked into the room and it was. (So now Beth was somehow at my house too?  How did all these people get here?)  Dragonfree was in fact back in the kitchen on the computer that was for some reason there (no, not my laptop…a random desktop in the kitchen), and Beth did not appear for the entire rest of the dream. *shrug*  Though amusingly at this point I wondered, “Hey since this isn’t the internet, should I call you Dragonfree or by your real name?”  but never actually asked it.  So I went the whole dream without addressing her by any name (not as weird as it sounds—I don’t use people’s names often.)

But all of this random crap quickly derailed into something involving DRAGONS HOLY CRAP.  Okay, so I actually can’t remember how the dragons plotline started dang.  I think there were like, different types of dragons (one for each element?  This was completely unrelated to Pokémon, however. In fact, I don’t think anything Pokémon ever came up, other than that random bit about her site.  I don’t have Pokémon dreams often.  What the hell, subconscious.)  I think we had the earth dragon or something except I guess it was a baby.  And then like, the queen of the world ordered the dragons (she had a lot of them I think) to kill people, except each dragon’s power was only effective on certain people, and the Earth dragon was supposed to kill us.  I think I ran and hid in a bush (yeah…because that would save me from the elemental dragon…) but since the Earth dragon was just a baby its power didn’t kill us (and I was confused about why the other dragons’ attacks didn’t hurt because I didn’t know about the whole only-effective-on-certain-people thing).  So then I emerged from my hiding place and I think a lot of time had gone by because I saw the events in a slow, limited-animation cutscene type thing (hey…sorta like that game concept art my group’s been planning.)  Well the earth dragon was now an adult.  I met up with Dragonfree at some sort of dessert table where a servant was putting together sweets for the king.  Things like chocolate covered pretzels and bananas. I guess I felt like trolling the king or something, so I stole one of the chocolate bananas, and then we ended up having the guards sent after us (yeah, way to go dream self.)  We hopped on a train (like an old style steam engine) except it was rather small, and intended for little kids.  Well lo and behold my youngest sister was there.  We rode on the train for a bit until my sister climbed on top to check something and was doing it all very not-carefully like someone who has totally climbed on top of a train and started opening hatches a hundred times in their life.  Well something went wrong and then she fell off and got tangled in some vines and then the train tried to go through an insanely small tunnel and started shrinking, so we had to get off.  And then we found the earth dragon!  Except he was a baby again OKAY THEN.

(Thus far there hasn’t been much dialogue only because I can’t remember it.  Everyone was actually talking a lot more than this implies. They weren’t all just standing there.) Also I think I spent most of the dream wondering when Dragonfree was going to go back home.  Because “oh yeah we’re on adventure and running for our lives, but hey please don’t leave in the middle of all this I wanna hang out some more.” Uh huh.  This makes even less sense when you consider that there are no countries and the king of everything is after us.

Well this time the queen was there with the guards so we ran away into this sort of maze of stairs vaguely like a kids’ play area except kind of more serious business.  Some of the stairs were in fact escalators that were broken down, and others were so small that we had to slide down then and we were doing pretty good at avoiding the guards.  We all regrouped and figured out a way onto the third floor, at which point we were feeling pretty clever, but then WE RAN INTO THE QUEEN OH SNAP.  But she was actually on our side the whole time! I think this made more sense in the dream (maybe she knew the earth dragon wouldn’t kill us with its attack? But what about all the people killed by the king’s fire dragon?)  Well she did something to the stair area to prevent the guards from getting through while she made a deal with us.  So then we had the queen with us, yay?

We were now heading up a mountain!  I have no idea what we were looking for at the top.  Except first we had to go though some sort of summer-camp type area, where they made us go though inspection (okay?)  This involved pushing us under streams of water which I thought were going to be freezing but were actually kind of warm.  Kay then.  During the next part we were all in a building (at the camp I guess) and a bunch of the campers were watching tv. At this point I thought to myself “Hey it’s weird how this dream is still continuing even though I’m awake.” WHAT?  So I thought this part was real, but I was still dreaming it…even though it was real?  Now, there have been times I’ve been able to continue a dream while awake and have it actually fit in the dream, as opposed to the lame crap you usually try to add to a dream shortly after awakening until you realize “wait my logic works now and this is stupid.”  But anyways…I think around this point was I finally going to ask Dragonfree, “Hey we’ve been running all over a crazy kingdom all day and I’m still not sure what to call you since this isn’t the internet and all.”  But at that point I woke up.  Well…damn.  I mean, it’s better than when you have a dream end at a super-suspenseful point (since we were kind of just wasting time at a camp and I don’t even think the earth dragon was with us anymore).  But still I felt the need to go run and grab my laptop and start writing all this down and highly confusing my roommates in the process.

And holy crap LOOK HOW MUCH I WROTE IN HALF AN HOUR.  Why can’t I write my fic this fast?

1. What are your favourite genres and/or styles to write in?

I recently discovered I actually LOVE magical realism. I really like world building like that. But most of all I like writing about people and relationships, so within that, anything really

2. What was the last writing project you finished and felt successful with?

I get a total buzz from finishing anything, often because I’m super excited about starting on the next thing! I think Wicked Boys, though - it’s just the first draft that’s finished, but I’m really pleased with how it turned out. The Forest Hotel, as well, I finished that quite a while ago but I still feel really positive about it, which is unheard of for me lol! My friend has finished the front cover art, so hopefully I’ll be able to publish it soon! But the most surprising success was Nature of Trust, because it’s STILL gathering hits and kudos like crazy, it didn’t slow down after I finished uploading, and I can’t even quite figure out why?! I feel like I hit on some magic formula there and I’m fascinated lol!

3. If you have a WiP how do you feel it’s going? What stage are you in?

Oh dear, hold on people. So I’ve got 2 original novels that are about 1/3 the way through. One of them I recently got enthusiastic about again, but I nearly cried when I re-read the first few chapters. They were shit. I’ve convinced myself to move past that - that’s a problem for second draft Lyndsay - and just write the damn thing. 

I’ve got a couple of first drafts that need transcribing so I can upload them - Wicked Boys, which is my current baby, Golden Prince, and Living the Dream (shit, I need to be writing that like now, so I can upload tomorrow...)

I’ve got a Drarry novel which might ACTUALLY turn into an epic re-write of the entire HP series, oops. I’m only on book 1 as well, so... it’s getting there?

There’s a short story I promised my daughter, too, I should really prioritise that...

Oh, yeah, I forgot about Zero Degrees! I have a few extra chapters to add, and a bunch of edits, but I’m hoping to publish that next year

4. What are your favourite places to write?

I write my first drafts in notebooks (literally because I like buying pretty notebooks...) so I actually end up writing in some lovely places, like a hill where I walk my dog! My dedicated writing place is in a golf club cafe I go to after my karate lesson (random, know), they make the best BLT baguettes, and the old dudes there tease me and ask me when I’m going to write a book about them

5. Do you prefer to write with long hand or type? Or some other method?

If it’s something long I usually write in a notebook, because I kinda like having physical evidence of the VOLUME of shit I write! Also I really like pretty notebooks. Also also, it forces me to finish a first draft - I can’t edit as easily as I can on a laptop. And then when I type it up it forces me to second draft it, I spot things that don’t flow better than if I was just reading through

6. Do you remember your first character? If so can we meet them?

Yes! I used to write stories and pass them around my school, and the first one I wrote was about a girl who lived as a stowaway in a container ship like some pre-teen phantom of the opera on the fucking ocean! I actually don’t know if I ever finished the story, but she was trippy. First story I know for sure that I finished was about a bus crash where one girl nearly dies and her body is taken over by an angel so she can heal. It’s mostly from the POV of the boy who had a crush on her and who goes slightly crazy noticing the similarities and differences between this girl’s character before and after. I mean that was trippy AF too, I’m not even sure what was going on there... I was clearly a little edgelord already...

7. Where do you get your inspiration?

I really don’t know, half the time. Daydreaming. Something will set me off and I’ll take tangent after tangent until BAM, I’m re-writing the story of how my great-grandfather walked half way across Kenya with a donkey and a wooden leg, only now he’s gay and he and his Masai friend rescue a kid from an abusive household.

8. Do you outline a story before writing it, or does it all live in your head until the first draft gets put down?

So much outline. The reason being, I have so many random ideas that if I started all of them I’d go crazy. So instead I have a book full of tangled mind-maps (my header photo is an example), and once they’re outlined there, they can hibernate for years before I get started, but they don’t go away. If I just let them live in my head I’d lose them! I also have a book dedicated to doing character notes, like backstories and random bits of info that will probably never make it into the story but which give me a good idea of who the person is before I try to write them - otherwise they tend to be a bit two dimensional. @salamanderink gave me that idea by asking me loads of questions about some of my Zero Degrees characters!

9. Where do you go/ What do you do when you’re feeling stuck?

I just leave it alone, write something else or absolutely nothing. I don’t try to push it any more. I think I used to, because I was scared of losing momentum, but now I’ve got this backlog of ideas, I know that if I ever run out of inspiration at least I’ve got starting points for loads of new ones! I don’t know if that’ll change in the future, but it seems to be OK for right now. I sometimes change and do a bit of drawing for a while instead, that usually loosens me up

10. What got you started writing/doing Art? (Because I always love origin stories)

I’ve kept a diary since I was 6 or so, on and off, but consistently since I was 11. That just sort of turned into me writing stories, somehow. I remember writing in my diary ‘nothing interesting ever happens so I’m going to write down my daydreams until I get a boyfriend or something’. Then IDK, some of the kids a couple of years below me in high school found some of my stories, and asked if they could share them around, and I started sewing them up to hand out - I’ve still got all of them! Some of them were fucking dark... 

We had a talk by an author one day, and he asked if anyone wanted to be a professional writer. Okay, here goes. I’ve never been too great at talking about myself in a positive light but I’ll do my best here.

My real name and age are something I keep very private from this blog. There’s a real sharp divide between this blog and my real life.

You guys have taken to calling me Ten, and it’s growing on me. So that’s my name now — I’m Ten. I’m starting to like it more than my real (and unusual) name.

Anyway about me…I’m a serial procrastinator, dog mom to a tiny yorkie, and I like to think I give good advice, as tons of you guys have told me so when I help with problems over anon. I live in Canada, and I’m the author to about 12 (I think?) fics by now, which is more than I ever would if everyone hadn’t been so receptive and nice.

I don’t know if you’ll find this an interesting fact or a sad one, but I do tons of my writing in the hospital. I’m there a lot as I’ve got a plethora of health issues, and it gives me something to do with my time there, and makes it that much more tolerable. For that, I say thank YOU all for reading.

3. What do you never leave home without?

My laptop. It’s always in a sling case so I can write wherever I go.

4. Are you an early bird or a night owl?

I am worse than a night owl, I’m like a 4 AM owl. If there was a poster child for bad sleep schedules, it would be me.

5. If you could live in any fictional world which one would you choose and why?

God, I don’t trust fictional worlds. They’re all horrible in their own ways, and I wouldn’t last a day.

If I could live anywhere (and have wifi,) I’d live on the island of Themyscira from Wonder Woman.

6. Who is the most famous person you’ve ever met.

Um, does Brendon Urie noticing me on a livestream count?

But nah, I did meet Dan and Phil during their live show tour. I’ve been watching their videos for years, so it was a big deal to me. Still wild to me how tall they are.

7. What are some of your favorite movies/TV?

Okay, I am so bad with movies, I rarely watch them. But I do watch plenty of TV shows — here’s just a couple of the ones I enjoyed: Brooklyn Nine Nine (you guys KNOW how much I love this show), 13 Reasons Why (I know there’s controversy surrounding it but I think that save for a few scenes it was done well), Stranger Things, Chuck, the old Twin Peaks, Teen Wolf, Flashpoint, Your Lie In April (a fantastic anime) and I just started The Bold Type.

8. What are some of your favorite bands/musicians?

I listen to SO MUCH RANDOM STUFF. My spotify has about 10 or so different playlists and they all have different vibes. I guess right now I’ve been into The Cab, Blackbear, Porter Robinson, and The Neighbourhood, but that’s probably going to change in like, two days. I’m also currently in love with the songs Shelter by Madeon and Porter Robinson, and Only by RY X.

9. Favorite Books?

I feel like such a fake. I love reading but I rarely read books. I guess my all time favourite would have to be Me and Earl and the Dying Girl. (The movie’s also fantastic!)

10. Favorite Food?

I eat SO MUCH ICE CREAM. It’s insane.

11. Biggest pet peeve?

If someone is directly next to me when I’m on my laptop. First off, I feel super constrained if I can’t move my elbows freely as I type, and second, I hate it when anyone stares down my screen trying to see what I’m doing on my laptop.

12. What did you want to be when you were little? What do you want to be now?

When I was little, I wanted to be an artist. Now, I just want to find some direction in life, whatever it may be. The medical field interests me, but i’m not sure if it’s something I could really do as a career.

13. What are your biggest fears? Do you have any strange fears?

Biggest fears? Why is it that now I’m asked this and I blank out? To quote Jughead Jones,

“Fear of the unknown, fear of facing it alone. Fear that those closest to us are the monsters.”

Make of that what you will.

14. When you are on your deathbed what would be the one you’d regret not doing?

I’d regret not being more confident in myself, for sure.

Okay… lets talk about your writing!

15. Which is your favorite of the fics you've written for the Bughead fandom?

Oh gosh, this is a tough one! But if I had to pick, then it’s a tie between The Ninety-Ninth Precinct (it was fun mixing two shows I love, and writing a more light and breezy Bughead.) and A Perfect Place To Start. You guys seemed to like that one.

16. Which was the hardest to write, in terms of plot?

Smut is always tough for me, so anything that escalates beyond making out is always a bit of a challenge for me, so The Snake Charmer and Before The Moment’s Gone were hard.

17. How do you come up with the ideas for you fic(s)? Do you people watch? Listen to music? Get inspired by TV/movies?

My ideas come from all over the place. Some from music, some from movies and TV shows I just have to twist into an au. Others come from the prompts you guys send me.

18. Idea that you always wanted to write but could never make work?

Anything where you’ve got a hotter or more confident version of either Betty or Jughead. If I’m honest with you, it’s hard for me to write anything where I don’t see myself in the characters or relate to them. I’ve tried to do a hotter Jughead, but it always ends up with him being the sardonic dork he is because I can’t write characters I don’t connect to. And as a quiet outsider-type myself writing sexy confident characters is a challenge because they just don’t resonate with me in a way I could write them.

19. Least favorite plot point/chapter/moment you’ve written?

Um, I’m not sure I’ve got one, really. Anything I don’t like gets scrapped and never sees the light of day, so I’m actually pretty okay with what I’ve put out.

20. Favorite plot point/chapter/moment you’ve written?

Okay, so my favourite scene was writing Betty warming up to Jughead’s motorcycle in A Perfect Place to Start. It was fun to see that progression from her thinking it’s a cliché to enjoying riding on it and cheering.

21.Favorite character to write?

I always enjoy writing Betty, because I connect with her character. I feel like she’s one of those characters I can really understand, I know why she feels the way she does and I can relate to that. And like I said, I can only write characters that I see myself in, so I can draw on my own experiences.

22. Favorite line or lines of dialogue that you've written?

I could never narrow it down to just a line, but if I can say a section it’s this excerpt from a ficlet I did:

Her cheeks and lips were a warm, rosy, invited shade of red, and every one of her breaths came out a breathy swirl of white in the cold November air. Her lips were curled up into a smile. She looked like a work of art, painted by the finest artist with the most beautiful array of pigments he’d ever seen. Jughead wanted nothing more than to meet her lips and kiss her over and over again until the lines on her forehead, marking her confusion and bitterness over what he’d known was a horrible day disappeared.

23. Best comment/review you’ve ever received?

Every single positive review makes my day. Any comment from @jandjsalmon, who basically defines the gold standard for fic comments. I couldn’t even pick one.

24. How do you handle bad reviews or comments?

Horribly. I’ve cried before.

I am a self destructive writer, and when I pour so much work into a fic sheerly because of how much I doubt myself already, so it hurts like hell to get mean comments. I always skim and delete as fast as I can before my eyes can focus on it too much and read and internalize it, but what does stay in my mind stays for weeks.

25. If you could change anything in any of your stories, what would it be?

I guess to make my dialogue better. I’m great at descriptions but I always feel like my dialogue falls short.

26. What is your favorite story you’ve ever written? Any fandom?

What I listed above, those two for Bughead. definitely. And I have one fic for b99 (it’s a special request from a friend) over on my AO3 which I’m very proud of.

27. What are you reading right now? Both fan fiction and general fiction?

I’m not reading anything in real life right now, but in terms of fic I’m currently digging Wicked Games by @charlesbbass (and not just because Ari’s my best friend on this site and I’ve had some exclusive access to the plot, but because it’s insanely well written!) and By Mere Happenstance by @it-happened-one-starry-night. This slow burn is setting me on fire and I’m living for it.

28. Do you have an advice for writers that want to get into this fandom but might be scared?

Whatever you put out there, I promise there will be an audience for at least one person. Whatever you publish, at least one person will read it, I swear to you. For each positive comment is 10 people who read the fic and were too scared to leave one. So write, and popularity just happens. You worry about writing for now, and I promise you, readers will follow suit. I believe in you.

7/13-7/24

7-13-17 I got off work today at 10pm. I made rain go take pictures with me and see a comedy show. The comedian is from Chicago. Nice guy. The transformers and my little ponys were supposed to premier today but there was an issue on space and where they could change into their costumes. I can't wait to see what they look like. One of the guys who does one of the ponys is new. He's Israeli but lives in Canada. There's actually a handful of workers here that I've met who are Jewish. Lots of Israeli family's too. I looked on our tablet and the oldest person on this cruise is 104 year old. So crazy. No one from Missouri either. This boat has a shit ton of repeat cruisers because they all live so close to the port. I don't start until 2 tomorrow so I'm just gonna sleep in. I can't even tell you the last time I did that. I leave 2 weeks from today. So crazy. It's going by so slow thoughhhhhh. It's gonna be so weird being here for my last week without rain. And having a random roommate for a week too. 7-14-17 I have officially been here for 2 months. So crazy that I've only been here that short amount of time and I feel like I've been here forever. I met a family from stl. They didn't seem to care when I told them I was from there too lol. Their kids are in the hazelwood school district. Tonight I work the kids party which I've never done before. It's such a small space for the amount of kids that come to it it's insane. The kids love it though. I got to sleep in today which was so nice. Showed up late to lunch so I had to eat in the crew mess which was packed and didn't have a single table open. So I sat at the end of one of the long tables and tried to scoot away from the men sitting there. I've gotten really good at not making any eye contact with them. I'm seriously a pro now. I'm super excited because tomorrow I get off early enough to go see the epic rock show. I've seen the new cast do it once so I'm looking forward to it. Tonight I did the kids party for the first time. We had almost 50 kids in our tiny little room. There's not enough room at all. And it doesn't help that the room is long and narrow rather than having a big open space. Tomorrow is a sea day :/ hopefully the weather will be good so the parents take their kids to the pool. 7-16-17 I got to watch epic rock last night. Absolutely amazing as always. This cast has improved so much. They're so much fun to watch. I was supposed to get off today in Long Beach but my plans fell through with my friend so I ended up sleeping all day (I needed it, especially with going out the night before). Rain leaves in 4 days it's so crazy. During the sail away party today we had a camera crew come and record the ponys and transformers. It was the first time I had seen them and they were so freaking cool. This hasbro thing that we signed on to is a huge deal. Even the candy shop is completely filled with my little pony and transformer things. Seuss is not happy that we have another company on the boat. There's a lot of competition between them. 7-20-17 It's currently 6:30 in the morning and rain has officially left the boat. That was not an easy goodbye at all. I cried yesterday but this morning we were fine. I just got back to the cabin and it already feels so lonely. She's literally another version of me but from Texas and has a lot more hair than me lol. I know I'll see her again but it's just weird. I've been with her since day 1. We stayed up until 430 last night just talking. We have a new girl coming today. On the schedule it says she's moving into my room but I was never directly told of it so not sure if it's actually happening or not. It's her first contract. Hopefully I'll be able to help her out. It's been craziness around here. I leave a week from today. One more cruise in circle c and then 1 cruise in camp. I'm gonna be an emotional wreck. Lack of sleep doesn't help either. I've gotten so close to some of these people it's hard. I finally went parasailing with nick (gaston). Such a cool experience. I'll definitely be doing that again. I'm really sad to leave him. He's so talented it's insane. Watching him in the shows is so much fun. This past cruise was an interesting one. There was a girl from Australia that looked so much like my sister it was creepy. There were so many times I almost called her Jeri. We also had a boy who had a stroke when he was 9 and wasn't supposed to be able to walk or talk again. His hand and leg don't work that well but he still would help out with everything it was the sweetest thing. Our imagination Prom was really successful. We made it an under the sea theme and the girls made the funniest posters with tons of puns about the ocean and voting for them. I put up different colored blue streamers and blue balloons all around. This was my first group that actually danced to the music instead of just sitting there. 2 nights ago we had a stoplight theme party at the crew bar. You wear what color coordinates to your relationship status. So I wore green because I'm single. The shirt I wore was brand new and broke so that was nice. The DJ was set up outside which was really cool. It's where the smoking area is though :/ they had tons of stop light decorations it was so cool. I finally got to see the ponys and transformers in person. They're insane. It's impossible for me to get a picture because everyone is always wanting a picture and obviously the guests come first. The event they had was chaos. There's not enough room for the amount of people that actually show up to it and how things are set up is tricky too. This might be my last time off in Long Beach. I think me and Kody might get off around lunch and go eat somewhere. I kinda wanted to stop by the aquarium too. 7-20-17 I can't believe rain left today. I feel lost without her here. It's so weird. Me and kody woke up this morning to say bye to her when she left the ship. I know I'll see her again it just makes me sad that I don't know when. I went to lunch with kody and our new director. Then I went to Starbucks to check my laptop in which I discovered someone in Washington state used my debit card to by an XBOX game for $89.99...great way to start my morning. Xbox is refunding me but now I have to get a new card which is a huge hassle considering I'm leaving a week from today then going right to Chicago for the wedding. I also stopped by the aquarium to look at the gift shop. It's such a neat place. I don't think I'll be able to actually go though since this Sunday we have a meeting and I'm not sure what times I'll be working because I'll be in camp for that cruise. My kids this cruise are already super awesome and laid back. It felt really natural sitting there with them all night playing games and talking. I'm not sure what my last cruise schedule is so tomorrow could possibly be my last time in Ensenada. I'm starting to get nervous about packing. I don't even know where to start. It definitely helps that rains stuff is out and there's more space but it's still not gonna be fun. 7-22-17 Just finished my last cruise in circle c. Very bitter sweet. I'm ready to go home but at the same time it's gonna be so hard to adjust when I get back. We have people from corporate coming tomorrow so I had to stay even longer than 1 to clean extra well. There hasn't been air conditioning in circle c this entire time I've been here and recently it's been so bad. I've told numerous people about it and it still is not getting fixed. I get hot even when it's snowing so imagine how I am in there. A disgusting sweaty mess the entire time. 7-24-17 I can't believe I leave in 3 days. I don't think it's hit me yet. I packed and thankfully had enough room. I'm starting to get nervous thinking about saying bye to everyone. It's just weird thinking that I'll most likely never see them again. Possibly on other ships but you never know.

Everyone has a ‘first novel’, even if many of them are a rough draft relegated to the bottom and back of your desk drawer (or your external harddrive!). Have you been able to reshape yours, or have you abandoned it for good?

I’m glad you asked! I’ve had a rough draft of my first attempt at book writing still saved in my files and I’m currently finishing it in hopes to have it published this fall! I wrote the first few pages back in 2009 while in college but didn’t feel confident to write a full manuscript for it. The story follows a young man who is forced to become a masked vigilante after his brother, a gun-wielding batman-like hero suddenly dies. I think with the complexity I wanted to put into this story was more than I was able to handle then. I believe that after writing Chaos Company I have what it takes to deliver a complex story within my first manuscript.

Some authors are able to pump out a novel a year and still be filled with inspiration. Is this the case for you, or do you like to let an idea percolate for a couple of years in order to get a beautiful novel?

Well, the truth is I know I have a number of stories from start to finish I can’t wait to get to! I even have a dozen of them outlined! I can’t speak for other writers, but inspiration isn’t a problem for me. I try to find it everywhere, from current events and life experience to traveling. The biggest issue for me is time. Until a year ago I didn’t have the time to write, mostly because after working a 40hr/week job, exercising and being social I didn’t have enough to put my ideas down. But now since I work for myself I have the time needed to put my ideas into writing.

I have heard of writers that could only write in one place – then that cafe closed down and they could no longer write! Where do you find yourself writing most often, and on what medium (pen/paper or digital)?

I often write on my laptop either in my bedroom or the living room. That being said I have written in other places such as the common area of my former college, and even at my old job while I was on break. Heck, I’ve even written when I was on vacation in Spain lol. To me there isn’t really a special place for me to write. There is however a mindset I like to put myself in through music in order to write. For example, if I’m writing a lot of dialogue I like to be listening to alternative rock or instrumental music, and when it comes to me writing action scenes I find it easier to do so while listening to hardrock or EDM.

Before going on to hire an editor, most authors use beta-readers. How do you recruit your beta-readers, and choose an editor? Are you lucky enough to have loving family members who can read and comment on your novel?

Unfortunately I can’t trust my family to read for me because most of them see critiquing me as them being rude. When it comes to beta-readers I have only one. Her name is Tessa. She’s been a friend of mine for seven years now and I can trust her to not only tell me exactly how she feels about my work, but also provide ways on how I can improve on a story. I trusted her taste in storytelling and her suggestions when I had her take a look at Chaos Company, and I know I can trust her going forward.

Now when it comes to hiring an editor I am very picky on whom I choose. I got lucky with Chaos Company. Before being let go with publisher Desert Breeze Publishing they had already edited my book for me and had spent over five months and two editors on the project. But now that I am on my own again I’ve learned to ask various questions before hiring an editor, and have them edit a chapter of my work before hiring them. That way I know what I’ll be getting from when they are working on an entire manuscript.

I walk past bookshops and am drawn in by the smell of the books – ebooks simply don’t have the same attraction for me. Does this happen to you, and do you have a favourite bookshop? Or perhaps you are an e-reader fan… where do you source most of your material from?

I am an e-reader. My mom got me a device years ago and I’ve been using it ever since. That being said, I am a sucker for having a physical book in my hand from time to time. I usually get my physical copies from amazon and the same for ebooks.

I used to find myself buying books in only one genre (fantasy) before I started writing this blog. What is your favourite genre, and do you have a favourite author who sticks in your mind from:

1. childhood? – Dr. Suess. His work was and still is a great stepping stone for young readers. I could do without the films made from his work though lol

2. adolescence? – R.L. and the Goosebump books. Especially the choose your own adventure stories. I remember when I choose the wrong page and quickly flipping back to the previous page to try again! I also remember reading the Halo series based on the video game because I wasn’t allowed to play those games as a kid so I thought reading the stories was the next best thing.

3. young adult? – The Alex Rider novels by Anthony Horowitz. That series really got me through high school and inspired me to try my hand at writing, which I would later fall in love with. I read somewhere that Mr. Horowitz wrote a James Bond novel and I can’t wait to get to it!

4. adult? – As a fan of The Walking Dead show and Graphic novels I am currently making my way through the tie-in novels for the comics. The novels are written by series creator Robert Kirkman and Jay Bonansinga who both do an excellent job portraying a dreadful and cruel world in these stories. I’m almost done the second book now and am grateful to have 6 more books in the series to go!

All that being said, I am a sucker for a good action novel. If it has anything to do with spies, bad-ass one man armies, super heroes or epic individuals, I am all over it!

Social media is a big thing, much to my disgust! I never have enough time myself to do what I feel is a good job. How do you manage it?

If I’m being honest I don’t spend too much time on social media. I have a facebook and twitter account so that’s about it. And my facebook is used mostly for personal reasons, which only leaves me with twitter to promote myself and my work. I may put 2hrs towards social media a month because I just don’t have the time for it right now. With my schedule the way it is and how many projects I want to release by next year I have to put social media on the back burner. When it comes to twitter I at times feel like I’m just yelling into a void hoping people catch wind of my words. That is why I tend to stay away until I’m ready to promote more material and announce when I will be making appearances. Hopefully when writing is my official full-time job I’ll be able to be more active with social media. But until then I refuse to be a part of something I believe has gotten out of hand when it comes to making it as an artist. A true artist’s work should be based on their artistic merit and vision and not how many followers they have.

Since you don’t use social media to promote your work, what do you do? What do you do instead?

– I work as a driver for Uber/Lyft and do odd jobs through the website Taskrabbit. Both jobs require me to meet so many new people on a daily basis and to me that’s a potential new reader/fan I can introduce my work to. It may seem like a slow way to draw in a fanbase, but I get to have a one on one conversation with potential readers and fans and I believe that is worth more in the long run. But, with this method only time will tell if it works.

Answering interview questions can often take a long time! Tell me, are you ever tempted to recycle your answers from one to the next?

No. Well, at least not yet lol. When people are kind enough to interview me the least I can do is be as authentic as possible when answering them. Now if someone asks me a question I’ve had before then yes there will be a few points I may repeat from a previous interview. But I do not just copy and paste an answer and I will do my best to never do that in an interview. It’s not fair to the people interviewing, or the people who have read previous interviews I’ve been in.
