☕ - Coffee or tea? 💀 - How do they feel about horror movies?
Misc. Ask Meme
☕ - Coffee or tea? On the one hand we only see Belle drink tea in the movie despite the fact that coffee would definitely have been available. Coffee was well established as a popular drink by Belle's time (it is credited as being properly introduced to France in 1669 by Suleiman Aga, the ambassador to the Ottoman Empire) and by the latter half of the 18th century there were hundreds of cafés in Paris.
That said, Belle lived most of her life in a village that seems pretty disconnected from city life and likely would never have tasted it before (though Maurice undoubtedly did) and instead have drunk tea. However, once she started living in the castle, I can't see how she wouldn't have gotten to try coffee since French royalty was famously fond of it (Louis XIV harvested, roasted, ground, and served coffee to guests made from beans grown in his greenhouses).
So my final answer is I imagine once Belle tries coffee she loves it but she sticks to drinking tea because to do otherwise would offend Mrs. Potts which is simply not done.
💀 - How do they feel about horror movies?
That's a difficult question to answer because there are so many different types of horror movies that exist.
I don't think Belle is completely averse to horror, after all, we see that her curiosity is stronger than her fear to the point that she faces a creature that to her understanding should not even exist in order to save her father. Not only that, she refuses to bow to his demands and then she willingly goes into the one place in the castle she was explicitly told not to go. A place that literally looks like the set of a horror film, but she keeps going.
Going off of that, my headcanon is that horror isn't Belle's favorite genre (she's more into fantasy, adventure, or romance), but she would absolutely be down to watch some scary movies if asked. I think she has particular tastes about the type of horror she likes (doesn't like gore, slasher, or most psychological horror movies, but enjoys anything with monsters or the supernatural in general).
