I find Avengret to be an interesting oc because while we see Nidhogg leading the war I don’t think of of Ratatoskr’s brood join him so it’s interesting to see one do it. Also I now have another idea for a WoL au…. Mwahahhahha -WoTF anon

Look you've already got me involved in one AU, I'll keep this one mainline 😉

We know there are some members of Ratatoskr's brood still friendly with men; their mother's influence keeping them out of the war, hovering at the fringes, mingling with Hraesvelgr's brood. For instance, even at his most upset, Gullinbursti isn't a threat to the men and moogles who dare rebuild Bahrr Lehs--he merely threatens the plaza, if they cannot recreate it to his satisfaction. And then of course there's his wonderful daughter, Ehll Tou, who joins us in Ishgard's Restoration and she is just delighted by mortals and determined to heal the rift between her people and men.

But I feel like there must have been some of the brood as pained and angered as Nidhogg, who saw their mother's trust and love so betrayed and thought his response to be reasonable, who answered his Song of vengeance. While their siblings lived as Hrasevelgr did in grieving apathy, they answered the fire in their hearts and fought those their mother once loved.

And imagine if they too had loved men as she did--in some ways, still do, but the crime of what was done to her must be redressed, must be answered for, and if some of those once beloved mortals only understood and could aid in their revenge...

I don't think it was Nidhogg's idea to seed heretics among the people of Ishgard. He doesn't talk about or address them; even before his sister's death, he was dismissive of mortals. The heretics were useful, certainly, in his thousand years of cat of mouse, of slowly and painfully killing Ishgard, tormenting them in response to his own pain (until, I believe, through his stolen Eyes he sensed the Ascians, and the Archbishop's plans, and Shiva's summoning, and seemed to decide then that he had to finish playing lest the other family tragedy in Meracydia be repeated).

I believe it was Ratatoskr's children who followed Nidhogg, her children who knew and understood mortals, that helped fight Ishgard from the inside out by giving rise to those now called heretics. Perhaps starting with those who had lived among them in the Churning Mists and at Sohr Khai, and perhaps over time luring in new descendants of Thordan's crime--especially once they realized how the effects of their mother's stolen essence still could be found among those descendants, especially if given a little push.

Avengret comes from years of me noodling over those theories and ideas, consciously and subconsciously. I think she loved mortals as much as her mother did--and in some ways still does, but it's a love that has been twisted into something horrible by a thousand years of grief and anger.

Who is Antoinette seen her on your blog a few times. Is she like an Ascian?

Antoinette is NOT an Ascian, she is a voidsent! A succubus to be exact and thus hails from the Void. Her real age isn't known, just that she was one of the many turned into a voidsent on the 13th, however she has been on Hydaelyn (the Source) for 800 years or so due to the Pact.

The Pact

800 years ago Damien's ancestor sought out a way to gain more power to be able to fight the dragons the Ishgardian people were at war with, he went to dangerous and dark lengths to do this... Call it luck, or fate, but Antoinette was at the right place at the right time and heard his prays for help and thus took the opportunity to escape the hell that was the Void and was summoned to Hydaelyn. She made a pact with Damien's ancestor to grant him the power he desired by allowing him to drink her blood, in exchange he had to provide her with a vessel with which she could inhabit so she cannot be banished back to the Void.

Damien's ancestor did just that and provided Antoinette with a body to possess. Upon completing the ritual Antoinette was bound to the body of a poor Elezen and took over. Years later Antoinette would eventually betray Damien's ancestor and make it so that upon his death his soul went to the Void. (When Damien becomes a Reaper his avatar will be his ancestor)

Present Day

Antoinette has been wandering the world for 800 years causing chaos, corrupting those she can, and turning others she deems worthy into Nightkin, and using people to hunt down occultists who wish to bring more voidsent into the world. She has kept tabs on the descendants of Damien's ancestor, every few generations finding one with enough talent to make a Nightkin since her blood already runs in their veins. This is what lead her to Damien and she now currently trains him to hone his abilities and reach his maximum potential.
