Grace Kelly, Veronica Lake, Frank Sinatra, James Cagney, Hedy Lamarr, and Edward G. Robinson (optional!) 🎬
Grace Kelly: What do you do when you’re bored? read obsessively and waste far too much time on tumblr and zone out plotting stories in my head
Veronica Lake: List some random facts about your physical appearance. my measurements give me a textbook hourglass figure and that pleases me way more than it should. my grandmother's rings skipped over my mom directly to me bc i was the only one with small enough fingers for them. i have to wear petite glasses frames (which i did not know were a thing) bc apparently my face, like my hands, is small despite me being a very average sized person otherwise.
Frank Sinatra: What countries would you like to visit? i want to go back to italy and greece so badly.
James Cagney: What would you call your autobiography? i always wanted to write an account of the years working at the lake and call it Sane in Insane Places, after the rosenhan experiment, which was a psych study that largely critiqued how we go about psychiatric diagnostics and pathologize different behaviors based on biases
Hedy Lamarr: As a child, did you have one article of clothing that you absolutely loved (like wouldn’t take it off type of thing)? What was it? i never had a wouldn't take it off type item of clothing but one of my Special Outfits was a very pretty blue dress with flowers on it made from a flowy material that i dubbed the Maria Dress bc it reminded me of this dress in the sound of music i still have it in a trunk somewhere
Edward G. Robinson: Draw a self portrait. (optional!) thank god bc it is 9pm and i def don't have time for that right now but may do so in the future! there actually does exist a self portrait of me that i did many many years ago which i'll post if i can find the damn thing again lol

I don’t think it’s coincidental that whenever I think about Laloward and their dynamic, my brain automatically reverts it back to the one that Howard had with Chuck. It’s almost as if they go hand in hand because 1. There’s zero actual Laloward material on screen (LMAO) and 2. The only time we got to see Howard all wrapped up in his own idealization of a person engendered by devotion and pining was when he’s with Chuck (Allegedly)
I swear there’s a post where @villa-kulla talked about Lalo being a Chuck figure to Howard but I just can’t find it. Nonetheless I’ve seen one or two posts interpreting how some of the traits Lalo possesses and the way his mind works can be similar to Chuck, and tbh they’ve opened a whole new world for me. Thus I think it makes sense that Howard would go weak for people who can hold him down, be it mentally or physically or both AGDGDJHJ

Locked Grooves, feat. Franzi Aller (more smooth jazz-hop)
(@villa-kulla's Chisolm's Seven AU)
"...is that a smoke bomb?"
"Only a little one," Billy says, setting it off before anyone else (Faraday) can ask something stupid. The room fills gently with clouds of pale smoke, illuminating the light beams of the motion sensors criss-crossing everywhere.
"Dude, that is so cool."
Billy's mouth twitches into a tiny grin despite himself. It is cool. He can feel Goody practically vibrating with anxiety behind him - despite Billy's reputation, despite their absolute trust in each other and their team, Goody just can't help the nerves sometimes. He cares too damn much, and Billy loves him for it.
Even if he's going to ignore Goody's reservations for now and dive forward into the invisible labyrinth. This is who he is, this is what he does.
Watch.

3, 6, 15, 16, 20 for the music asks!
ahhhhhh THANK YOU, darlin!! ^_^<3
3. a song outside of your usual genre
since i already went hiphop with this question in another answer, let’s go with @lazaefair favored genre and something i wouldn’t even have known existed if not for her guidance: electroswing. my friends all have impeccable taste in music, but this genre is WALL TO WALL UNHINGED GREATNESS. here’s a Beyoncé cover by Swing Republic.
youtube
6. your current “on repeat” song
yet more Keane - please try and hide your shock. i listened to their newest album on repeat pretty much all the way back from visiting @northstarfan; it fit my sadsack mood, and every time i come back to this record it just gets better and better. probably my favorite track, and the one i wanna play on loop forever, is “Stupid Things.” like the rest of the album, the subject matter is absolutely infuriating and yet horrifyingly relatable in a way, and the whole song is so boppy and fun you can almost forget you’re listening to the slow-motion car crash of a failing marriage. :|
youtube
15. a song that reminds you of traveling
always, forever, the ULTIMATE road trip song, for the simple fact that it plays over the travel montage in Field of Dreams, a movie i watched obsessively as a kid: The Allman Brothers Band, “Jessica.” :D
youtube
16. your favorite childhood song
oooo, well. my apologies in advance, but until the age of 16, it was all-contemporary christian music for me, all the time. so here’s a triptych of songs from the first “grownup” album i ever owned (i won it in a contest at church, because of course i did), I’ll Lead You Home by Michael W. Smith. you ever encounter artists, in whatever medium, who are honestly so talented you wish they had a completely different set of morals and worldview?? MWS is that artist for me. there’s a reason the man’s won enough Dove Awards to bury his West Virginia hometown; he’s just good. shame about all that virulent anti-abortion activism and hypernationalistic evangelism, huh.
(links bc you can still only embed five videos in a post for some stupid reason)
Trilogy: The Other Side of Me
Trilogy: Breathe in Me
Trilogy: Angels Unaware
20. a song that empowers you
it may be silly and juvenile, but yeah, Linkin Park was my first non-Christian band. they were mine, something i got to choose for myself when i was just starting to figure myself out. i am still broken into pieces over Chester being gone. and every fucking critic and jackass fanboy can shove it: A Thousand Suns was a fantastic album, the last of their albums i really loved. the whole thing tells a single story of nuclear apocalypse and revolution, until the last track, this complete tonal shift of a song, just Chester and a guitar, assuring you that “when life leaves us blind, love keeps us kind.” it felt like a revelation ten years ago, and it still does now.

Heyy! I was going to message and see how you're doing over there, but I'll start with the ask meme you posted!:P 6, 7, 8, 17, 18, 20 (not sure which ones you've been asked already!)
(Sorry this is so late, yikes! I had A Deadline this week.)
6. how you get relaxed when you’re struggling to sleep
ASMR videos, and when I’m actually trying to sleep, putting myself in an imaginary place or scenario usually works… and keeping the room really cold helps a ton since I can sleep under heavy blankets. (Also, credit where it’s due, I take prescription meds for anxiety and sleep and they’ve helped a lot.)
7. your favourite board game
The classics: chess, Scrabble, Monopoly.
8. if you were going to write a non-fiction book on any topic, what would it be? (answered here!)
17. a bath, shower, beauty or toiletry product that makes you feel revived, or that you always re-order when it’s running out
Since getting turned on to Asian skincare a few years ago, the products I go through the most are SPF50 sunscreen and Matsuyama hydrating toner. I’m also completely in love with Diptyque’s Do Son perfume but haven’t shelled out for a whole bottle yet.
18. a book series you can always escape in
The best escapist book I can think of is Brendon Chase (1944)— three boys run away from home and live in an English forest. The descriptions of the woodlands are just so good, you could get lost in them.
20 a skill you’ve picked up in the past few years
Driving, extremely basic Czech and Spanish, and the fundamental ballet positions— I want to improve them all! And how to do one (1) swing dance step.

What book are you currently reading?
Just finished What If? 2 by Randall Munroe, have not decided what to start next yet.
What's your favourite movie you saw in a cinema this year?
I'd say it's either Everything Everywhere All At Once, or Nope.
What do you usually wear?
Jeans and a t-shirt by default. Sometimes yoga pants and a tank top.
How tall are you?
Like 5'7"-ish
What's your star sign?
Libra
Do you share your birthday with a celebrity or historical event?
The only thing I know of the top of my head is that my birthday is two days after Kimi Raikkonen's. According to google I share a birthday with John Lithgow and Jon Favreau.
Do you go by your name or a nickname?
Nah, my name is not easily nickname-able.
Did you grow up to be what you wanted to be as a child?
I wanted to be many things as a child. I don't think I've actually done any of them. 4yo me wanted to be a nun though, so I think it's best not to listen to her.
Are you in a relationship? Who is your crush if not?
I am engaged to @acereaper
What's something you're good at versus something you're bad at
I'm good at working with my hands - building and fixing things. I'm bad at chess. I don't have the patience for it.
Dogs or cats?
Cats I guess, but I'm pretty badly allergic. I'm not really a pet person.
What's something you'd like to create content for?
I don't entirely understand what this one means. I guess I'd like to make time to DM another game? I'd like to get back into writing too - I'd got some new ideas for where to go with the Dishonoured fic I did for NaNo last time round. But I'm working full time and studying part time right now, so it's had to find the time and/or brainpower.
What's something you're currently obsessed with?
I'm sort of between hyperfixations right now. I'm just coming off the end of a big Frostpunk binge, but nothing's really taken its place yet. I have gotten back into watching gaming streams lately, mostly because I have a knitting project I'm working on and it's good background noise. @cenyiere did show me the first couple of episodes of Shadow and Bone last night though, so we'll see if that blossoms into a new obsession.
What's something you were excited about that turned out to be disappointing this year?
Hmmm maybe Frankfurt? The rest of that trip was great, but if I could plan it again knowing what I know now, I think I'd skip Frankfurt and either do Essen instead or spend a couple more days in Luxembourg.
What's a hidden talent of yours?
My one true talent is being slightly above average for a beginner at almost anything. Will I then follow through and get good at it? Almost certainly not. But y'know, something something jack of all trades something something master of one.
Are you religious?
Very no. I was sort of halfheartedly raised catholic (in that my parents aren't religious either but my grandparents very much were) and grew to resent it pretty quickly.
What's something you wish to have at this moment?
Functional fucking joints. I did something to my right hip yesterday, apparently, and I've been hobbling around like someone's granny ever since.
If you're seeing this and you want to, you may consider yourself tagged.

A, B, D, H, L, X for the book asks! (also I don't know what W is doing in there haha but by all means go for it)
A: What’s the first book you see with a red spine?
!! It’s a book of poetry, John Burnside’s A Catechism of the Laws of Storms, which is an illustrated book of poems about the sea; I went to an exhibition of the art when it was published, and R bought the book for me as a surprise next birthday.
B: What’s your most expensive book?
Well, for work I spent an eye-watering £128 on Jashemski’s Gardens of the Roman Empire (and that was reduced-price) - it’s a huge illustrated archaeology book. For my own stuff, probably the hardback edition I have of Neil Gaiman’s Endless Nights.
D and H I just answered below.
L: What’s your favorite guilty-pleasure read?
I’m not sure that I have any guilt about what I read, and I’ve read so much over the years that most things are in there. I think the only time I feel judged about what I read is when other people comment on stuff like the Lucifer comics, which are violent and explicit, because I don’t really notice myself that it’s what some people count as extreme content.
X: What book has your favorite cover art?
I used to have a book of the art of Roger Dean (found on all good 70s psychedelic rock albums), so I think the cover of that counts best!
And as for W, I would willingly eat my own weight in ice cream every day!
Thanks so much for the asks!
