Welcome to the People’s Flag Wars!

The People’s Flag Wars is the next flag tournament I’m hosting! In this tournament, anyone can submit a flag that they have created, so this competition is for the people!

I am still shadowbanned despite contacting staff, which makes things a little difficult. I was going to take submissions through my messages, but unfortunately this is not currently possible. Thus, I am taking submissions through asks or by messaging my main account, @alexknight002. The number of contestants in this competition depends on the number of submissions I receive.

Rules:

1. Any flag you submit must have been designed by you. It does not have to be an official flag and can be any flag created by you. For instance, it can be an official design that was accepted, a fictional flag, a flag redesign concept, a personal flag, etc.

2. Only one flag per person can be accepted.

3. Alongside the flag, please submit the name of the flag, whether it is official or unofficial, and the meaning or symbolism of the flag.

4. If submitting through asks, please don’t submit the the flag anonymously, because I want to credit everyone.

I hope everyone has fun with this tournament! Submissions will be open for a while, so I don’t know when the tournament will officially start.

The flag in the image is the Keystone Flag, a redesign of the Pennsylvania flag by Tara Stark and one of the competitors for this tournament.

Flags for the Bardofar Republic

Ahoy-hoy maties.

If you don't follow he on Twitter, it's impossible you know this, but I recently took part in a competition organised by the micronation known as the Bardofar Republic (see https://twitter.com/bardofarmicro). They wanted flag designer allover to come up with the flags of the states composing their republic, and taking the opportunity I made a flag for each and every one of them. My designs ended up winning the competition (except the flag for Obsidian Isle, which @alexknight002 won. The only requirement that the Bardofarian set was that the flags had to prominently feature the colour blue. Because I had to context to what the history, symbols, demographics, traditions and beliefs of each estate was, I had to make them up basing only on the name; they were OK with that. Also, I tried to use the colour green whenever I could because they have a set of green stars on their flag, and thought it could be a cool reference to the national flag.

Without any further ado, here they are. From left to right and top to bottom they're: Solara, Aquilonia, Verdantia, Zephyria, Obsidian Isle, Emberlyn, Serendelle, Sylvanholme, Astravia and Merigolda.

As you can see, I tried to be as diverse in terms of design as I could.

I have a question that I was wondering about. I know some conservative people, but I have a hard time liking them because of their beliefs. Is it wrong to be friends with someone who is conservative? And should I dislike them as a person for this? I’m just curious about this, I wasn’t sure if my dislike for them was justified or not.

Very cute! I’m only on three stars, and I feel like I have so little creativity to make my town better. Even though I have terraforming, I’ve hardly used it since I have no idea how I should change my town.

don’t worry, i felt that way too but everyone has a different way of creativity when it comes to their towns. i would suggest maybe watching a couple of 5-star island videos to get a general idea of how you could incorporate the space in your area, etc.

I always wondered why Papyrus wore purple instead of red when most characters wear the same color that they did in canon. Will Papyrus wear red in the reboot? Also, I'm glad this AU is coming back, I had so much fun reading it the first time!

Absolutely not. Purple is the color of royalty after all and Papyrus takes his duties VERY seriously!

Do you think that Papyrus/Napstablook is a good ship?

I haven’t really thought about it!  Uh, let me see.

It could definitely be interesting.  Like, Papyrus befriends Napstablook through Undyne because he takes her command to “cherish” her old neighbor very seriously.  Napstablook is intimidated but touched by Papyrus’ overtures of friendship.  

Imagine Papyrus trying to lay down after a meal and feel like garbage and he is just energetic and not enjoying sitting still.  He talks a lot and then feels bad about disrespecting ghost traditions  Napstablook feels bad about making Papyrus do something he doesn’t enjoy.  

At some point Papyrus gets it into his head that Napstablook needs to be encouraged and he puts on his Jog Boy shirt and Napstablook pulls a thundersnail and gets over encouraged and breaks down and leaves.  There are a lot of apologies, at first, as they both try to be friends but they have such different personalities that it’s difficult.

But they’re both such good people I see them continuing to try.  Maybe Napstablook makes an album for Papyrus to show him that they care.  Maybe Papyrus keeps coming over to try laying on the ground and feeling like garbage, until he gets the hang of it (or he just keeps talking, but he finds it a useful place to vent negative feelings that he normally keeps to himself).  Napstablook tries out one of Papyrus’ puzzles, but instead of doing the puzzle they just…..float through it and they’re like “oh no…i did it wrong….” and they’re going to just leave in shame but Papyrus is super impressed with Napstablook’s speedy solution and Napstablook ends up actually feeling kind of good?  Papyrus decides to make a puzzle that will challenge even Napstablook.  He gets Undyne involved and there are music cues and Napstablook is so touched they can’t stop crying.  They cry Papyrus a cool hat, sometimes.

Uh, I also think it’s interesting since Napstablook is nb and i headcanon Papyrus as nb (but he uses he pronouns), so they have that point of commonality.  Papyrus also is very good at things like art and sculpture, and Napstablook has their music, so Papyrus could make album covers or hang around and sculpt him and Napstablook hanging out while he listens to their music.

Romantically, if Napstablook is inclined towards romance, I see them becoming flustered by Papyrus’ constant positive attention.  Papyrus makes them dinner (which they can’t eat, but they appreciate the gesture) and compliments them.  One time Mettaton is on TV and asks someone if they would smooch a ghost and Papyrus answers “YES” loudly at the screen and Napstablook fades into the sofa.  

Mettaton eventually catches on and I’m sure acts as a cheerleader to convince Napstablook to go for it.  Since this would take place after game, I figure that Napstablook would have gained a small amount of confidence from Mettaton’s return (he didn’t leave to get away from Napstablook or anything) and from being a celebrity and from Papyrus and Undyne’s encouragement etc etc

Once Napstablook actually poorly attempts flirting, Papyrus would catch on pretty quick.  He’s not oblivious about that kind of thing.  They’d probably go on some by the book dates.  As they got more comfortable, Napstablook would compose some new background music to accompany them. 

If Papyrus realizes he actually returns Napstablook’s “QUIET GHOST PASSION” I imagine they’d get right on the relationship track and have a nice house and skeleton ghost babies in a couple years.

14. If you could develop the next Zelda game, what would it be like?now this is a hard question. i would definitely want it to focus on the sheikah tribe. it would be interesting to see how they even came to be and what made them have ties to the royal family to begin with.

15. What spin-off game would you like to see?fulfill my dreams of a zelda party game dammit! i always wanted to see link in any variation of these cash cow games. did get part of my dreams fulfilled thanks to mk8 though. still would be cool to have link play tennis and stuff

i’ve seen it around!  my first thought was that i could see the appeal but that it didn’t really hit on the kind of stuff i like to write about, but a while ago i was like “but wait”

This is sweet though. It's always nice to see what your ideas are on things like this, and I like that you explore where conflicts would come up right along side the reasons it could work.

i love fluff, but i feel like writing about conflict and figuring out how characters resolve that conflict (or work around something unresolvable)  makes the relationship stronger.  which gives that fluff more power.  i hope you imagined me saying “more power” in like a super villain voice.  then the fluff is more powerful than you could ever imagine.  i think i was going somewhere with this reply but i’ve lost track pretend it was really profound though.
