Nothing says “summer is here” like an event curated by R&G Events, were everyone is a VIP. It was an event fit for a king, the weather was great, so was the energy and the lit stage with a classic red Bud ribbon shaped Dj counter a massive screen in the background with two social media feed screens on either side of the main stage. If you missed out on this epic event and have an acute case of FOMO, here is a vivid summary of #TheKingIsHere

The crowd that gathered Saturday on the night of the 25th 2018 into the early hours of Sunday for the official launch of Budweiser in Zambia, was a lively lot and suffice to say I had a blast. The Pre Secure teams were on hand at Gymkhana and not a single break in or theft was recorded, or did a single fight break out. From the music to no queues at the bar, I hadn’t had that much fun since Oktoberfest.

  Why no lines at the bar one may ask? The Pink Giraffe launched in July (at Pink Giraffe Stakeholders Live Trial Event) is your answer. This latest cashless innovation from R&G Events is Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Technology which means no more losing cash and dropping your wallet. It was as easy as loading cash or swiping credit onto my wrist band, walking to the bar, placing my order and getting my wrist band scanned and the transactions was over. It eliminates waiting for change, long queues, and wrong orders, and the best part is I can get back my balance in cash at the end of the night hustle free. Cheers to the Pink Giraffe, no more loosing cash and standing like a pillar of salt at the bar. On to the main stage then a break again at the Wing Tin.

Zambian Fusion House favourite son El Mukuka set off the celebrations with a summertime set that had hardcore El fans sinning along and waving their hands from side to side as he kicked things off with one of his many hits Bottle of Loneliness which features American vocalist and musician Kyla Jacobs.

Always enhancing the performance and his craft, Sam Nyambe of Crazy Fish was on the keys adding depth to the sound and sonic experience of Mukuka’s set

which also included familiar favorites such as Don’t You Worry Child and familiar tunes by the late Avicii. Break to refuel.

At this point my phone was flat from going live on Instagram, selfies and random videos and pictures so I made my way to the Charging Zone.

With my phone on charge, I needed some food and what better bite to pair with my Bud than some wings and not just any wings.

The Wing Tin is officially an institution and the quintessential food truck on the Lusaka and Zambian food truck scene at large. No other food truck can hold a candle to the quality of food, service and standard of the Wing Tin.

From their insignia chicken wings to their fries, they got what you need line your stomach and keep you energized before your next Bud. Yes they too are on the cashless Pink Giraffe technology which you guessed it means no queues and looking for change.

As I tweeted and so many patrons shared the sentiment, the real party and event was in the container. Two containers, two different genres, one entry, one window, it was a party!

As Dj Lastic set it off with popular hits currently making waves in one container while Dj Sebastien Dutch gave the people what they needed on an electronic dance music (EDM) front. I took a quick break to check out Dj Switch’s set and refill my beer cup. As always Switch definitely set it off with a set filled with old school cuts from the 90z, new school cuts and Mzansi bangers which ignited a nostalgia and longing for days gone by. But guys, the container with its sweat box club house party vibe had an energy that had me back in the thick of things.

Before shutting down the party on the main stage, Dj Boogie was on top of things in the commercial tunes and Hip Hop container.

Dj Nano delivered like he said with not one but two sets with all the lit tunes from Stir Fry and everything else charting and making waves, The award winning Dj Cree Jay also put on a clinic in not just one but two containers, that last set of the night in the jam packed dance and House container was nothing short of roof and hair raising.

The crowd was just right, the event was intimate, the Budweiser was extra cold, the energy and music were on blast, and R&G let us know summer is here in style and more importantly #TheKingIsHere
