"Maybe we should break up..." Ah, how you had dreaded hearing those words; they stung your heart like knives. You knew it was coming. You and Jungwon would be going off to separate colleges soon, and you knew that it was best for both of you to part ways. Your heart couldn’t help but ache as you heard those 5 words leaving his lips.

You two had been dating for what seemed like an eternity. It hadn’t been long; you guys had only met eight months ago. But still, that was enough time for you to fall. It would be a lie if he said it hadn’t been the same for him. You fell for each other, and no one could deny it. You spent hours in each other's arms, shared warm and lingering kisses, and knew each other's deepest, darkest secrets. There was no way you could have stopped yourself from falling—from the way his smile seemed to lighten the weight on your shoulders or the way his eyes would sparkle when talking about something he held dear.

If there was one thing you loved about each other from day one, it was your mutual love and passion for gaming. It may not sound romantic, but it was a shared moment between the two of you. Staying up late, talking to each other through the microphone, saving each other's characters from death, and then celebrating a victory together—it was moments like these that both of you held dear in your memories, moments that reminded you of how you came to be.

Let’s go back to October, the first time you and Jungwon ever talked, the day you knew you were both done for. As cliché as it may be, you had felt quite lonely in the past few days. Your usual online friends were MIA, and you no longer had anyone to play with. Bored, you decided to join a randomized group in your favorite game, unknowing of how this decision would dramatically change the course of your life.

You were pleasantly surprised by how kind and humorous the people you had joined were. The group consisted of five people: you, a girl named Haewon who had to be the funniest girl you had ever met, full of charisma. Then there was Niki, a boy only a year younger than you but who initially sounded quite mature... until you realized his habit of turning everything anyone said into a dirty joke. Then there was Hanni, another girl you immediately clicked with, finding her deadpan humor extremely entertaining. Lastly, there was Jungwon, the cutest player you had ever encountered.

Soon enough, this little group of yours had become really close—close enough to consider yourselves best friends, much to your surprise. Eventually, you learned that you all went to the same high school. Quickly, you found yourselves hanging out both online and offline, but amidst the friend group, you couldn’t help but find yourself getting closer to Jungwon. Something about being around him felt so easy, comfortable, and familiar.

As your friendship grew, new feelings arose, and you both found yourselves falling for each other. After that point, it felt like you were walking on air constantly. He was such a kind-hearted first love, and you felt honored to have stumbled upon him. Who knew what could’ve happened if you had not joined that game on that night?

But all good things must come to an end, and you weren’t exempt from the curse. You and Jungwon got into different colleges, and at first, it didn’t seem like that much of an issue. But as senior year came to a close, the realization hit harder than you could have imagined—you'd be separated, each living your own college campus life, and ultimately, you'd grow further apart.

So, with a heavy heart, you came to the conclusion that it would be best for both of you to let each other go, and maybe, just maybe, fate would bring you back together. But that's a question for the future.

Here you are now, on your graduation day. You knew what was coming as the sun started to set—the conversation that you'd have to have. But it didn't make it any easier. Trying to enjoy every last second you had left with him, you spent the day attached at the hip, basking in every last ounce of love you had to give and receive.

Naturally, both you and Jungwon distanced yourselves from each other as the ceremony neared its end, hoping to soften the blow and the heartbreak that was waiting for you. You settled on just watching each other from afar as the others celebrated the end of high school in between.

And when the clock finally rang, your hearts sank, knowing that in just a few minutes, you'd be parting ways, leaving your hearts with exposed wounds. You knew it was all quite dramatic, but how could it be anything less when he made your heart feel things it had never felt before and introduced the meaning of love to you?

So, with a heartfelt conversation and a mutual agreement, you two parted ways. You knew you wouldn’t get over him soon, but it would get easier with time, wouldn’t it? For the meantime, you'll just have to replay the last five words he whispered to you.
