HIATUS NOTICE — FEBRUARY - MID-MARCH

hi friends!! posting this to let everyone know i'll be inactive for the next month. me and the bestie ( @wingached / @hatesdogs ) are going to japan & south korea on vacation together!!

i have my queue set to run while i'm gone and i will get some replies & asks in there, but otherwise i will be inactive on the blog for around a month. if you'd like to chat or even write elsewhere, i'll be available on discord ( albeit very slow..... ) during this time. if you don't already have me on there, send me an IM and i'll pass along my user :3

N is friendly, he has an inclusive attitude and likes to be supportive and put his all into all of his friendships and get along with everybody. this has led him to being kind of a people pleaser who has been on the receiving end of a lot of mistreatment. over time, and having met uzi, he has grown into someone who can better detect mistreatment and stand up for himself!

he unfortunately has a tendency to repress and ignore anything that is particularly distressing for him, attempting to keep the mood light-hearted at all times if possible. he is significantly more traumatized than he lets on. that being said― this blog will have themes of trauma, abuse, and other heavy, sensitive and dark topics.

N is in a romantic relationship with uzi @malware-bytes. the owner of this blog is open to interactions with other uzis, but will be nowhere near as familiar (or romantic) with them.

Expanding a thought from a conversation this morning:

In general, I think "Is X out-of-character?" is not a terribly useful question for a writer. It shuts down possibility, and interesting directions you could take a character.

A better question, I believe, is "What would it take for Character to do X?" What extremity would she find herself in, where X starts to look like a good idea? What loyalties or fears leave him with X as his only option? THAT'S where a potentially interesting story lies.

In practice, I find that you can often justify much more from a character than you initially dreamed you could: some of my best stories come from "What might drive Character to do [thing he would never do]?" As long as you make it clear to the reader what the hell pushed your character to this point, you've got the seed of a compelling story on your hands.

This is a really hard question because I love all of the characters I write so much. Jim kirk is absolutely up there. But also Octavius is so much fun. Johnny silverhand is fun but i hardly get to write him properly :,) i've got too many
