good evening, and welcome to my ted talk where i theorize the existence of a species that is the overworld-equivalent to piglins

The Wild West fucked me up, as it did to all of us as a collective, and it opened my eyes to our favourite series of piggy characters: Sir Billiam from the Masquerade, sheriff Sherman Thompson from the Wild West, and Technoblade from the Dream SMP. 

The following, past the Keep Reading, is my theory on how the three of them are related without being.. y’know.. related.

I’ve a theory that nether piglins had evolved from hoglins in the same way that humans did from primates. On the other side of the dimensional-door, there is a species of pigman that had done the same with overworld pigs. Such an evolution would explain the physical similarities between piglins and hoglins, and would likely have similar results for their overworld counterparts. (For the sake of this post, I’ll be referring to the nether creature with Piglin, and the overworld creature with Pigman.) This creates a species on the same level as both humans and piglins, one of which I believe that Billiam, Sherman, and Techno are all a part of.

There’s two significant things that make me think that this is a species instead of them being descendants/ancestors of one another or being the same person entirely. The two of which are overlapping existence and aging.

   During the introduction to the stream, Karl had confirmed that the Masquerade and the Wild West occurred within the same few months and are practically side-by-side in the timeline. This image confirmed that further:

Billiam and Sherman are in the same lifespan as one another. Not only that, but Billiam is significantly younger, and Sherman is significantly older: a detail I will bring up later. Such a thing would be incredibly difficult for someone like Sherman to fake: a poor man with scarring and tusks would be unable to pose himself as a younger, richer pigman. This does leave the possibility of Billiam and Techno being the same person, but that still wouldn’t explain Sherman, unless we get into theories that Karl isn’t the only time traveller. But I digress.

   Although none of their ages have been canonically confirmed, you can put together pieces through context clues and facts stated in the dialogue and/or their appearances. You can tell that Sherman is an older man, not only by the fact that he’s retiring, but also by his having of tusks, scars, and what seems to be a rusty or scrap-metal crown. Just by the fact that he was retiring within a week of the Tale, it places Sherman in the pigman-equivalent of being 60-70 years old. Billiam and Techno seem to be around the same age, younger and much more similar in appearance without their tusks grown in yet and lacking major scars or injuries.

Bonus: I have a small little connection between piglins and the pigmen that we have here. Both species, nether and overworld alike, find the display of value and wealth very important.    In piglins, they will wear armour and wield their best weapons to assert a sort of strength and power hierarchy within their herd (or maybe sounder?). We see this similarly with all three pigmen. Billiam flaunts his riches, holding banquets and balls and even stealing to acquire more. Techno wears monarch-style clothing even if he himself isn’t a monarch and is appalled by them, bragging to others about how well-off he is. Even Sherman, a poor sheriff in a poor town, wears a rusty crown and earrings likely made of scrap metal or copper to further assert himself as the leader of the town.

   Yeah, that’s about it for my piglin-pigman theory. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.

i’m very weird about giving these guys warrior cat names, bc their names are such an important part of who they are, but i have a few ideas (im also open to others’ ideas if they have any and would appreciate immensely for someone to build on what i have so far)

tommy: tommy is too special of a name, in drafts of my lore for this au he’s a former kittypet so i might have it be a daisy situation where he keeps his kittypet name, and is just Tommy.

techno: technoblade is ALMOST a warrior cat name by itself but uses words feral cats wouldn’t know unfortunately. i haven’t come up with anything specific, but he’d definitely have “fang” as a suffix, it’d make him sound like a cartoon supervillain, which is the same vibe the name “technoblade” has.

philza: crowfall. full stop.

tubbo: bee, buzz, or honey prefix. not sure about a suffix but the prefixes are all very silly and soft words, you could have something tough and sharp as a suffix to offset it. alternatively, make him "honeybee" which sounds like an affectionate nickname and is hilarious in contrast to his personality

skeppy: i’ve come up with some lore where rather than having a diamond motif, he has a moon motif. so moon as a prefix or suffix. however he’s anything but graceful so the second half of his name should be something silly or cute that fits his personality. moonskip?

bbh: idk but i like “shade” as one half. “sunshade” to parallel skeppy’s moon motif?

sapnap: this guy has so much potential for fire-themed names i can’t decide on a specific one

dream: i think it would be funny if this guy has the SOFTEST, most ADORABLE name you could possibly imagine, to hard contrast his absolutely psychopathic nature.

george: he’s a medcat so you could do an erin hunter and shove leaf in there somewhere. no reference to his heterochromia at all.

slime: rock parallel, he could just be named Moss.

antfrost: absolutely no idea what i would ever name this cat. a complete loss. it’s a mystery /j

velvet: velvettail, i think it just works but I'm open to better ones (also yes velvet has a functioning place in this au, he's a dark forest cat)

hi !!!!! ahhhhh oh my god this has made me so happy, i can’t wait to see if you post it here !! :DD they’re all kinda up to personal interpretation, but here are some things i had in mind!

daisy > green eyes, dark hair, pretty small !!i always picture her in dungarees for some reason too LMAO, along with george’s signature classes and freckles :]

lissie > blonde curly hair, nothing really solid in mind for her yet :0 i’d imagine pretty tall, but go wild with how you picture her if you wanna !!

helga > short. tiny. So Short. she wears purple bc it’s her favourite colour and has short dark hair !! i think i mentioned that she has little yellow wings, too - she can’t quite fly with them, but they do slow her fall if she falls somewhere high, and usually is covered in band-aids and equipped with golden apples because of how clumsy she is KBSKDKD (can u tell how much i love her jhdssdk)

james > also short and tiny, but like,, a couple of inches taller than helga, which pisses her off lmao. his hair is lighter than his sister’s, and slightly longer too :) he doesn’t have wings, but when he gets excited, he sets himself on fire accidentally, so that’s something LMAO

angel > little ram horns in his hair, and also ginger for some reason in my mind?? pretty tall and freckly (they’re green) and also has glasses. he thinks he’s an explorer so has a magnifying glass he carries everywhere and a little journal where he records cool things he finds that he carries everywhere !! not to mention he has a tail like puffy’s too skjdfksd

michael > similar to the typical fanon design for michael !! nothing special sdkfdlsdkjsb, other than that he wears ranboo’s too-big crown on his head and carries around a stuffed bee toy with him that tubbo made him :D

emmeline > this kid is dressed The Coolest. i imagine she has black wings she can actually fly with (she’s just not very good at it KBDKF), she just doesn’t do it v often !! she looks a lot like bbh’s form in mc, but fluctuates between that and a more human form with blue hair :] she dresses mostly in black and gives herself fake tattoos with pens she steals from angel’s journal up her arms and legs when she’s bored !

darian > looks a Lot like ponk !!! they have the same haircut, but also has creeper abilities as i sort of touched on in the post talking about hybrids!! he wears armour bc sam is always worried about him getting hurt, but he dyes it red and thinks it makes him look cool (it Does). he never wears anything other than red JKDSFKJD, it’s his favourite colour

henry > she’s inherited traits from a Lot of the people tommy cares about! she’s got tubbo’s curly hair, a crown that looks a lot like techno’s (she fell out with michael when they met for the first time bc she thought he’d stolen it from her LMAO), ranboo’s heterochromic eyes and little wings for phil. apart from that, though, she looks SO similar to tommy, and likes to wear t-shirts like his red and white one because she wants to be exactly like him :D she’s got a little mini sword that tommy made for her that Doesn’t Actually Work (it’s plastic), but she likes stabbing people and watching them pretend to die dramatically KFSKNF.

so techno left not long after his death, and other than him, philza + Maybe one or two others, everyone knows he’s dead! they only reference it in terms of the story, but given that techno is usually travelling, he hasn’t heard (+ doesn’t believe in) the story.
