MARY BELL TOWNSHIP: more like mary bell CLOWNSHIT ha ha. heavy surveillance like everywhere (including in peoples homes. how fun). it's also got some like radiation stuff going on. all the residents are a lil radiation poisoned But it's mostly fine. also the town moves and i dont know why.

VANNIE OVERTURE: based on suburbia overture. the mayor who is a vampire. major control freak. sucks shit. like most of the reason mary bell is the way it is. permasmile swag. has killed before. hates when people are weird freaks and is actively passive aggressive if not outright aggressive.

TRIP LETWO: based on 2econd 2ight 2eer. world's silliestguy contrarian and infamous public nuisance. deeply tortured individual but shes dealing with it i guess. physically cant leave mary bell township. he has too much goddamn lore

LYDIE LAPLACE: based on laplace's angel. so lame. just deeply lame. killed a guy and got kicked out of office building heaven (laplace's inc. id give this its own section but it doesnt really matter all that much). i dont ever think about it unfortunately im sorry women.

MINA BYRD: based on i/me/myself. very sweet very nice. ladybugpilled socialanxietycel. doesnt have a whole lot going on but she is nice im glad shes there. im gonna have a significant relationships section of this but im saying that shes roommates with lia here bc its not really significant otherwise

WALTER LEE: based on ...well, better than the alternative. worlds first cis father to be a butch lesbian. probably a girl but she doesnt know that. weird nostalgia issues so bad his wife left him.

DOTTY LEE: ten years old. strange little girl but i dont really think about it a lot. not much else to say about her really.

LIA CRATES: based on outliars and hyppocrates. her name is pronounced like lie-uh cray-tees not lee-ah crayts. i have to clear this up because i realized most people were wrong LMAO. a little mean but not so much when you get to know her.

WARREN LEARY: based on blackboxwarrior. actually the worst therapist you will EVER meet. isnt even licensed. you book a session with her and she only talks about herself the entire time. constantly referencing a dark and contradictory past.

MARSHA TILLIS: based on marsha, thankk you for the dialectics. slightly better therapist! still not that good. has the spirit of an old man despite being in his 40s. will begin to psychoanalyze your behavior upon the first thirty seconds of knowing you.

NORMAN LEE: based on love, me normally. guy trying really really hard to be a regular guy. has a loooot of problems that stem from this. hugest people pleaser the world has ever known. a little bit offputting. has hair symbolism :-)

MORTIMER: based on memento mori. doesn't have a last name. worlds silliest grim reaper death thing. works in the death division for laplace's inc. lived a pretty normal life. then it died :-(. more here

FERN O'DYNAMIC: based on thermodynamic lawyer. hates his bitch wife (who is a praying mantis for. unknown reasons? will elaborate). just has a lot of anger inside him and doesnt know how to deal with it so he takes it out on other people. he kind of sucks but he's a neat character.

MIRANDA WRIGHT: the person being sung about in thermodynamic lawyer. bug wife (i can blame anything on radiation). she wasnt always a bug she just kinda did that idk. there's not much about her but she's an etymologist.

COTARD LETWO: based on cotard's solution. she has so many problems oh my gooood. deeply lonely person. fascinated with the macabre. its like coping mechanism that makes you worse. im insane about her writing a basic description is so difficult fkdjsfhsjd

RAMONA MCLAREN: based on red moon + hand me my shovel (though the latter was included later on bc it fit her). worlds most intelligent and stupid single celled organism. patheticswag. absolutely batshit insane. attempting to solve the end of the world.

KUIPER SUNSHINE: based on dr sunshine is dead. uh. i dont really know much about her to be honest SORRY... its really silly though + haver of prophetic dreams that she is NOT transparent about. fucks with people a lot just for funsies

COLIN THESIER: based on cover this song. girl who used to be in a band but got kicked out bc of friend drama. survivor of a toxic codependent queer friendship. trying to be a better person bc she used to suck pretty bad unfortunately. a bit more here

theres like a couple more characters but none of them are really important enough to give their own sections. debbie letwo is trip and cotards mom, laplace is the head of laplace's inc, maude is walter's ex wife who left him (heres the scoop on that).

OK NOTABLE CHARACTER DYNAMICS TIME:

VANNIE/NORMAN: norman has been pretending to be a normal dude this whole time + vannie totally fell for it. normans stuck in this friendship bc hes too much of a people pleaser to break it off even though vannie actively drains him emotionally. also he feels validated by vannie thinking hes normal. its so awful im so insane about their dynamic

VANNIE/TRIP: THEY HAAAATE EACH OTHER. their entire core beliefs are at odds (guy who thinks everyone should do their best to conform vs. guy who loves being a weird freak and doing fuck all). their dynamic is honestly pretty simple in comparison but theyre so petty and stupid its insane. if you put them alone in the same room one of them isnt coming out

TRIP/NORMAN: theyre gay together. there's a weird lore thing about the way relationships are handled in mary bell but long story short theres paperwork that has to be filled out if you want to be registered for one and trip thinks its really funny for xem and norman to constantly break up so they'll have to fill out the paperwork because it fucks with vannie. theyre also kind of awful and tragic

WALTER/DOTTY: that is a father and his daughter. walters trying his best and hes doing well but nothing would have been better than just moving out of mary bell township to raise his child.

WALTER/NORMAN: they’re brothers 👍 not much else to say there but they’re cool

WALTER/MAUDE: already linked a more in-depth explanation of their deal but ill summarize it here. maude thought living in mary bell township was really bad for a child (and it is) but since walter has issues about idealizing his childhood he was like "whaaat well i was raised here and im fine" and they fought about it and once it became clear walter wasnt changing his mind maude figured shed just spare herself from all of it. so she left 💯

WARREN/MARSHA: what if the two worst therapists ever were queerplatonic and violated hipaa together. also what if one of them [marsha] was helping the other [warren] because they're on the run from the law. would that be crazy or what

FERN/MIRANDA: actually awful. they really want to divorce but trip and norman keep clogging up the paperwork so theyre on a waiting list forever. their relationship was really good at one point but its not anymore :-( more info here

NORMAN/FERN: fern haaates norman because of the previously mentioned paperwork debacle but normans ass cant deal with the thought of anyone disliking him so hes just been really trying to get on his good side to no avail. also theyre coworkers so its more relevant

MORTIMER/TRIP: man how do i even summarize this one. due to lore reasons that you can read about in the link provided in trips session they have a super weird dynamic present day. or at least on trips end, mortimer is just super friendly to them and it wigs her out.

TRIP/COTARD: OUGUIGHJ. AOAUYFGDSFHSJ. tragic sibliiings. man i dont even know if i can go into this. go here and here if you want to learn more about them. jesus

COTARD/COLIN: frienndsss :-] classic extrovert forcing themselves into introverts life trope a little bit. they play music together and its great. mina's also in their little group but the two of them are closer

KUIPER/RAMONA: have been described by my friend as being "nonromantic freak4freak" and this is true. theyre working together on the end of the world stuff. they also rope cotard into it but thats lore i havent talked much about yet. go here and here for more info about them.

I was thinking about Terra’s character throughout the series. It’s understandable why she would be against war and killing since she is a child of war. She has seen the pain and trauma it can cause to people. As traumatic as the event was for her it pushed her to find alternative ways to solve an issue without immediately resorting to killing. She seen her dad kill before but she hasn’t fault him for it since she knows it was in self defense and to protect his family. The Coalition War was different since the people Mark was fighting against are their friends/allies. I don’t think that she necessarily agrees with what the Coalition was doing but she is against using war to resolve an issue since she knows firsthand how damaging war can be especially to bystanders. While her dad didn’t start the war he could have not went through with it or fought for a more peaceful solution sooner. This might be why she distant herself from her family since she feared what her dad was doing made him no better than Thragg.

I think the main reason why she separated herself from her father was, of course, because of the war, but also because of the fact that the Conservation Order (the regime Terra works in) wanted to break away from the Viltrum Empire BECAUSE of Marks decision to initiate war. However again this war is not a fault of the VE, it was initiated by VE’s emperor because the Coalition Of Planets was draining resources from poorer worlds and then displacing the people of those worlds in densely populated planets (like modern day Talescria) in order for COP to stay relevant, so therefore COP was at fault. The Conservation Order formerly affiliated itself with the Viltrum Empire because of its key interests: maintaining peace, solving conflict and improving peoples lives. I think CO’s disconnect from VE was not because of the soul PURPOSE of the war but because of war IN GENERAL and it’s damaging consequences (division, death, innocent civilians often paying the price, etc) which goes against what CO and Terra personally stand for. Terra is very passionate about helping people (example of this was when Mark was about to give up on an entire race of people because of their crime rate, but Terra saw that the only reason why these crimes were committed was because those people were hungry, were scared, and were dying because they lacked the resources they needed in order to thrive, and was able to convince Mark to spare them from any irrational punishment) and, like her father, can be very naive at times and because she can often be blindsighted by emotion she doesnt always properly defend her arguments for doing certain things. So generally speaking, Terra supports CO breaking away from VE because of the damage war does but she DOESNT condone any of what COP has done because her job is literally to prevent everything COP was doing. Even Mark himself admits that “this could have been so much easier if you had just TALKED to me” which again supports the idea that war isn’t a necessary solution to all problems. ALSO I DONT THINK SHE THINKS HER FATHER IS AS BAD AS THRAGG BC OF THIS WAR ‼️ Thraggs means of war was driven by viltrumite conquest and superiority over other beings (evil), Marks means of war was driven by abolishing an organization that was exploiting weak planets and damaging populations of people in order to stay afloat (good). Again yes Terra does fight to solve conflicts (when her ‘master’ [either her mentor Kregg or emperor and father Mark] had her battle that unnamed dude in order to bring peace between their people) but she by all means NEVER wants to resort to war because of the damage it did to her family and how it tears apart other families too. So basically is she defending the Coalition Of Plantes? Absolutely not. Its her duty to prevent what COP did from happening. Does she think this conflict could have been settled more peacefully without war? Yes. Goodness i love the extensiveness of her character sm I LOVE YOU TERRA shes just an alien girl in a drama-n-violence riddled universe

why heinkel hates reinhard but still replaces reinhard with schult: speculation + analysis

i may have written too many words of anime fanfic about them but im gonna talk about this completely unprompted anyway. 👍 i was in an essay writing mood again.

so. basically. we all know heinkel hates reinhard’s guts and is overall an abusive father. but heinkel STILL replaces reinhard with schult. why would he do that if he hates reinhard so much, given how similar schult is both visually and personality-wise to reinhard? and when you pair it with the fact that heinkel USED to love reinhard, it gets more complicated. of course theres the fact that theresias death and wilhelm deciding to blame reinhard for it caused this landslide effect when it comes to heinkel and reinhard’s relationship, but we ALSO know heinkel actually defended reinhard at first. heinkel DEFENDED reinhard from wilhelm when wilhelm blamed reinhard for theresia’s death. but of course, we all know how well heinkel and reinhard’s relationship turns out later. but why? we know the core trauma that triggered it all (theresia’s death and wilhelm’s response to it) but it still doesn’t entirely explain everything until you look deeper.

i think the answer is actually that heinkel separates reinhard into two parts—reinhard the person, and reinhard the sword saint.

reinhard the sword saint becoming the sword saint helped caused theresia’s death. reinhard the sword saint killed theresia. reinhard the sword saint publicly defeated heinkel in a duel (we dont know the specific circumstances of this duel but we do know that public perception of heinkel was ALREADY bad even before the present day and losing a duel to your five year old son does not help matters). reinhard the sword saint saves the day, is regaled as a hero with the van Astrea name, while all these rumors going around about heinkel crushes him on top of the fact that his only support system (his wife) is gone with no cure for her condition in sight. along with the fact that his son Seemingly killed his mother. and this is AFTER the fact that heinkel begs theresia to go on the white whale mission in his stead. meaning that heinkel ALSO helped theresia to her death. and then reinhard the sword saint swoops in to be the kingdom’s beloved hero while failing to fix Any of these issues. reinhard the sword saint is a monster to heinkel, especially when you remember that reinhard kills theresia Again in front of heinkel at the end of arc 5.

reinhard the person, however, is different. reinhard the person is the son that heinkel knew—the son he loved dearly. thats why schult as a replacement is the perfect choice. schult’s a young kid with a resemblance to a younger reinhard and a similar timid personality. on top of that, schult is normal. schult doesnt have any world-ending, mind-bending superpowers that affect Everything about him. schult is everything that heinkel missed about reinhard Without any of the baggage. Without anything that makes reinhard difficult to love now. heinkel even says it himself:

kids should stick to being kids, instead of going off and becoming a hero that betrays you. because i think that heinkel thinks that being the sword saint warped reinhard. why wouldnt it, when the whole situation where reinhard Gained the sword saint dp is theresia’s death? the innocent little kid that he had as a son is gone in his eyes. and it’s just a monster that’s left. he Misses reinhard the person—reinhard, his son—but he loathes reinhard the sword saint, who seemingly destroyed everything they had. and i think this especially shows when you remember that heinkel 99% of the time says the sword saint instead of reinhard’s name.

this division that heinkel likely has about Past Reinhard and Present Reinhard also has to be what caused heinkel to go from a very loving father to a very abusive one. why is it now easy for him to be so cruel to someone he doted on whenever he could? it’s because to him, that person became a Monster. reinhard betrayed him, from his point of view, over and over again. theresia’s first death. the duel he and reinhard had. and then theresia’s second death. theres a chance even, that heinkel’s anger towards present reinhard may also partially be because present reinhard stole past reinhard from him. to heinkel, the only thing of reinhard left is the sword saint.

and schult being heinkel’s replacement for reinhard does show that heinkel misses reinhard. you wouldnt need a Replacement for someone unless theres a void that needs to be filled. and heinkel’s choice of replacement specifically says a lot about him and his relationship with reinhard.

wilhelm’s choice of replacement also says a lot about him. but that’s for another essay akdndndn

anya is 15 and a fresh faced chunin and she juust got assigned to the Property Ownership and Zoning Commission Bureau because she didnt wanna do normal chunin stuff. on account of shes lazy and she thought paperwork would be easy. shes WRONG though she has to do so much more than occasionally grab ninja coffee or whatever. SAD! shes a nara and she is unfortunately invested in the zoning code shenanigans. shes been watching the chaos go down and like that thing where people go "oh NO im in LOVE" except its with. architecture. shes hanging around and all she does is complain but then one day katsuya is like "why dont you just transfer to like marrige and unions division. lol" and she realizes that shes passionate about buildings. this is the worst thing that ever happens to her and she sits in her room for five days and cries about it and then she comes back to the office and tells them that shes signed up to get an architects degree and they're all very proud.

NGL sometimes I look at the crew's tweets about him needing to stop being in anger mode 24/7 and reintegrate into society, and I wonder: are we supposed to expect him to work through that by himself? Do we expect great emotional regulation and self-awareness from an elementary schooler in an abusive household? He absolutely shouldn't be redirecting his anger at the people around him (note: Hazel. she didn't deserve that ire at all and doesn't owe him any patience about it), but I can't help looking at him and thinking that he needs, like. I dunno. A therapist. An adult. Someone or something that's actually guaranteed to help him out a little. The adults present in the show... didn't seem very interested in doing that, despite seeming to know what his actual core issue was? Maddening. Anyway

the frustrating thing is i cant blame people defending the choices because some people are genuinely really bad at voicing their opinion/critique, especially because it feels like a lot of people arent having the balls to actually point out peri, even cosmo and (frankly the worse one of the two bc she was so much harder on dev) wanda are a bigger blame for the situation with dev. of course people are gonna assume people are putting the responsibility on hazel, id also be defensive about that because thats a ridiculous thing to expect, but like nah its clear its not her responsibility. she is also 10 and has a world outside of dev, and dev SHOULD be held accountable for his actions in regards to lashing out at others around him when hes upset. the fact hes given more critique than the adults around him that are meant to guide him and help him is the bigger issue than that alone.

on that same note, hazel should also be held accountable for the same things, like saying devs problems werent that deep and having wanda, a FAIRY GODPARENT, basically agree??? also when she was like "oh friends work things out" i didnt hear no apology for not hearing dev out or at least for leaving him in the dark on if theyre friends or not. and the thing is i dont expect her to do that on her own, because shes 10, but theyre fictional 10 year olds who will have more maturity than most real kids either way, so like... yknow?

additionally its kind of a double standard either way, if you dont expect hazel to act mature, why on gods green earth would you expect DEV to??? and hazel, compared to dev, has people to guide her the right way and people that are patient with her, meanwhile dev doesnt get that, the most hes ever gotten is hazel and THATS NOT HAZELS JOB!!! im not saying the writers are claiming it is, its just that its frustrating that the writing has ended up with her feeling like the only person who really gives a damn yknow

There's no reason for you to feel guilty! I know that not everyone is a fan of Frapp, but Zapp as a character is pretty divisive in the fandom for some reason in comparison to other problematic/morally grey characters like Bender or Mom for instance, but please don't feel bad about talking about Frapp or your love for Zapp, and don't let anyone make you feel bad for it either!

We all have our OTPs and NOTPs as well as our fav characters, and so long as we are respectful of one another, it's not a problem imo - however, now that you're getting back into the fandom, I 100% recommend going through different blogs and tags to block or blacklist what you need to to curate your space to see what you want and to hide what makes you upset or uncomfortable

Anyway, yeah I've noticed that kind...idk if call it "double moral" between Bender and Zapp, I blame the fact Bender appears more in the show so the writers and we as viewers can see different layers of him and idk have some empathy. Even if Bender is my least favorite, i get some of the appeal...man, Godfellas is on my top 10 probably because makes a good "deep" episode with Bender, i like the message of the episode...what bothers about the character is how, his actions nowdays doesnt have consequences...isnt that interesing to see imo. About my notp...I'm not comfy disclosin the reasons because I dont wanna hurt feelings. Anyway, people tend to "crucify" Zapp a lot...I really want to write about him in depth soon, probably cus I've been seein the show since the first run my feelings are completely different about the characters and the show as whole. It functionally rewards blind patriotism while jailing, and often KILLING, anyone who they deem to be "unpatriotic"; the definition of what constitutes a "patriot" usually based around extremely bigoted ideas of race and culture. It is a specifically vague division, so that anyone who they want can ultimately be labelled "unpatriotic". As you may note, unpatriotic people are currently punished under our system pretty systemically, BUT THEY ARE NOT JAILED OR KILLED JUST FOR BEING UNPATRIOTIC, they still need to use a separate "crime" to get that done!!! Even the protestors, they are jailed (on paper) not for being against the government, but for tresspassing. Under fascism, that pretense disappears, they throw you away simply for being against them. IT IS AN INHERENTLY TOTALITARIAN SYSTEM AND IS MUCH MORE NIGHTMARISH THAN OUR CURRENT SYSTEM!!!!

When I say "The republicans are fascists", it is because they have been seeking to institutionally enforce their worldview, which is EXACTLY the system of fascism I describe above. The Democrats, including Biden, are not trying to do this! They are happy keeping things the way they are, not out of the kindness of their hearts (If they had kindness they'd stop engaging with Republicans as if they had any legitimacy and raise a public debate on whether we should turn back from the fascist slide), but because THEY FIND THE CURRENT SYSTEM AS ONE THEY CAN EXPLOIT OPENLY WITHOUT FEAR OF REPURCUSSION! They arent good guys, do not get me wrong. They want things to remain the same, and keep exploiting us (and the world) for profit while they sit in their fancy houses. Yes they could exploit more if they did what the republicans want, but they also understand that if you go full fascist in our society, you face FAR GREATER danger of repurcussions! That, and I'll even admit some of them (including probably Biden) DO just view it as "too far", but it doesnt make em good guys. They just want their coddled wealthy way of life to continue, while doing just enough "good" in order to make themselves not feel like the villains.

But see, thats my point here: They may be bad overall BUT THE DEMOCRATS STILL DO GOOD!!! Its only incidental to the system, and not enough, but its enough that we can MAYBE HAVE THE CHANCE TO AVOID A FUCKING FASCIST GOVERNMENT, and maybe turn things around!! More time for us surviving means more time to build up a revolution!!! a drunk, rambling (of both positive and negative sides) of pokemon scarlet (my pick) and violet. spoilers ahead under the cut. you’ve been justly warned

tl;dr up front, this game in terms of Story, Characters, Battle Mechanics, and new changes to the overworld far exceed the lack luster trash that I think gen 8 is. as i make my next sandvich to feed to the stupid lizard i named Heavy because of its addiction to said sandviches i think about what this game has brought to the table, and it’s got a lot of filling in it,but arguably its execution of has been for some funny, others an embarrassment, and others still, a blatant showcase of why first party pokemon games are going the Way of the Dodo in terms of quality. 

it has been Five days since generation 9 has had its rather divisive release into the public space, most certainly one of the most anticipated releases for the switch this year, and for a not insubstancial vocal contingency have been raking it over the coals for a lot of reasons, predominantly performance and graphics issues. its so hilariously bad on this front because the frame rate dips, shadow rendering and sometimes piss awful rendering speeds make the game look like something out of a goddamn steam greenlight submission (remember those????). now see i dont normally even care about that sort of thing or can just easily ignore it. except this happens so frequently i cant even go a few minutes without something getting choppy. and yea when it comes to a first party nintendo release fuck up should be a badge of shame we should put not on gamefreak but rather the fucking corporate investors that forced an obviously crunch-induced deadline. it has all the hallmarks of a game put under crunch, and while GF is quite famously press shy (especially after the dexit thing last gen), so we’ll probably not know the whole story unless someone does The Game Journalist and digs up as much of the story as they possibly can. 

 but alas i dont play pokemon for graphics. im mostly into battles and well, I was actualyl pretty surprised with some areas and parts.

i actually really like the idea of terrestalizing, and changing a pokemon’s typing to another thing. it opens up a lot of strat and team making that suddenly some mons which may have been held back by massive type weaknesses can now suddenly get a chance to shine in ways never before possible. the game really doesnt do it much justice since they basically treaded water for a majority of the big fights, but some notable outliers are out there. but some fights are a fucking joke at the point you reach them; WHY THE FUCK WOULD YOU PUT A FUCKING ***GOGOAT*** ON THAT PERSONS TEAM WHEN YOU LITERALLY COULD HAVE PUT ANYTHING. FUCKING. ELSE. ON IT I SWEAR TO FUCK I AM GOING TO CHOKE A FUCKER. that one battle (if you know you know) was so underwhelming bc of that team line up i still wonder who thought HM WE SHOULD DO THIS FOR THAT BATTLE. 

the real strengh of gen 9 is in its story characters in multiple fronts. After the fucking embarrassment of a rival that was fucking Hop, you’re greeted out the bat with a Champion rank trainer who basically just wants to Battle All the Things and wants a challenge again. This would be annoying as Nemona pops up all over the bloody place and at times much like the Hopeless Hop, but instead she tries to actually build the player character to reach her level so she can finally have the real challenge again.  it doesnt actually stop with nemona either, you also get introduced to Arven, a young man who is so Done with the Stupid Sanvich Addicted Lizard that he just gives it to you and now You have the unsubtle legendary which you can just ride in plain daylight and nobody bats a bloody eye. his line involves finding The Perfect Food Ingredient for personal reasons that also happen to be important for some reason. and then there’s the whole thing with Team Star, which as you progress you actually get a thing where, depending on how well your time in school was, you may very well understand and appreciate whats going on there.  unlike every other pokemon game out there, there’s no hard order for you to do things. if you wanna march right up to the strongest gym leader, the only thing there to stop you is pokemon well above yours in level, and the fact you will Get Your Shit Kicked In(ask me how i know). there’s rewards for talking to things and doing things unrelated to the main story line(s!) and taking a bit of time away from the battle and world to read things is a good way to get some decent rewards early game. and the final areas are actually p. gud in terms of what they bring to the table, its what happens after the main story where things get Meh and enough for me to put down the game for a few months.

The (non performance/bugs) weakness of gen 9 right now is the lack of a real postgame. even sword and shield gave you a Battle Tower to just keep doing things. but after you clear every thing leading to what i see as the final task, you basically only have the tera raids and a tournament thing to do. and let me tell you those tera raids at their highest levels are, at the time of writing, are impossible to solo for me. you gotta have Friends to do em afaik and one fuck up or RNG Bullshit.tm will halt a run instantly. i don’t enjoy em, and since I have seen all that i deem to be seen for now, I am back into Monster Hunter Rise/Sunbreak where i am now mercy-killing infected monsters. There’s obviously going to be DLC for this game at some point, but lets face it with the Amount of Bugs currently plaguing it, i dont see that happening any time soon. closing notes, i know some of the tunes are bugged, but some of them are really, really fucking good. one of them beats out the famed Gen 5 tune for that type of trainer. if you know, you know and i will die on this hill that gen 9s is better than gen 5s. fight me. i also have found three shiny mons after not encountering a single one since 20-fucking-10. a Summer Deerling, a Houndour and a Skrelp (oooo!)

final drunk noivy ratings Story: 9.1/10, probably one of the strongest ones since gen 5 Battles: 7.5/10, terrestalizing is a cool concept, but the game doesnt deliver on it well enough anD SOME OF THE FIGHTS ARE A FUCKING JOKE, FUCKING GOGOAT MY FUCKING GOD. but some of the fights are up there in difficulty graphics/performance: lol its better than sword and shield. and then some. that first bar isn’t hard to clear for me. but it does enough out side of the glaring bugs to convince me that yea it was ok purchasing it day one. probably won’t do that for gen 10.

GAHAHAHA OKAY SO:

A big part of Aki's story is a tragedy right, but more specifically the tragedy of futility and change.

his motivation from the start was to avenge his family and kill the Gun devil, and that was the most important thing to occupy his mind. He didn't need friends. He just wanted Gun devil /dead/, and for that he had to become a Public Safety Devil Hunter.

As much as he prefers solitude, he cares so much about people. He doesn't want to watch anyone die in front of him ever again, he doesn't miss that helplessness of being a child and not being able to do anything. So every time he meets someone, he is basically attached to them. He cares for them, even if he tries not to show it. This is most evident with Himeno, when he was still new in the bureau he was quite rude but after witnessing Himeno getting slapped he was like okay " i need to defend her immediately actually 👍." Hes also attached to his old 2nd division buddies (Nomo namely, i forgor everyone elses names) so he was rlly pissed when he saw Reze like take the heads of his old comrades.

ALSO his attidude towards devils and fiends radiclly shifts after Denji and Power started living with him. He's annoyed with them, sure. But he also realizes that they're still very much People. They're not human but they feel, and they breathe, and they laugh and cry and annoy him so so much and they're Alive and he realizes that " oh. maybe . I've been living for vengeance my whole life I didn't know that I could live after I killed the Gun Devil."

Aki doesn't want to die. Of course he doesnt want to die, he's terrified of dying. Yet more importantly, he's scared of /losing/. Hes scared of being unable to do anything, he's scared of watching people die in front of him. So he tries, and he saves. and his foresight granted to him by the Future devil does nothing to help him either because even though he can /see/ it doesn't always mean he can react and. its just sooo... augh

His motivation shifted from avenging the deaths of his mother, father, and brother until his final breath to doing everything he can in his power to protect Denji and Power so they can live. His tragedy is about how he knew the end was near, how at the end he knew Denji would be the one to kill him, and how he was Happy. He died as a Gun fiend, and its ironic because of course it is. How cruel the world is to make him die as the thing he wanted to kill so badly. But its also so bittersweet how he died, being in love with those he cares for so very much. He died thinking that Denji and Power were smiling. He died and returned to being a child , full of innocence and naivety. He died finally getting to play catch with his brother.

Augh. Aki's story is abt determination and perseverance. Chasing and Accepting. Its abt loss its abt hope and its abt Time and futility and change. And its abt destruction, about waking up in the morning and thinking "this could be the day where everything ends" . its about choosing to get up from bed anyway, even if you're unhappy, just to live.

and its about the ones you try to keep close to you, despite it all.
