If there's one thing I wanna bring with me from Reddit, It's r/legoguns.
Now that I'm getting off reddit, there's one thing I wanna bring with me and it's this subreddit and idea, it doesn't seem to really exist on Tumblr. Here's some of my designs, and some of the best of other people's, with credit. All of mine can be realistically built with full functionality (mag release, charging handle, etc.)

MK18 of mine
Okay, when i first posted i forgot a "keep reading" button lmao. Heres 1 image as an eyecatcher though. 29 more to go.

Aand thats image limit. Damn, I got carried away with that. Ive been picking very specifically too, there's ALOT of better stuff than just this that ive missed. Just take a little look through the r/legoguns sub. Anyway, I'm hoping these are gonna get some new people interested in this sorta thing, or increase the amount they're being posted on Tumblr. Lego guns sounds ridiculous but once you see how good they can be, it starts making more sense. So, I'm gonna tag this with #Lego guns in the hopes that it catches on. Thanks for reading. Including all Migration tags too, and 196 bc why not.

20 questions for fic writers
Thanks for the tag @rebelrayne! @longbobmckenzie tagged me in the body of hers too so I’ll take it.
How many works do you have on ao3?
82 right now, but I’ve orphaned a few recently
What’s your total ao3 word count?
1,220,982. I’ve got about another 30-40k words in WIP documents right now, so almost one-amd-a-quarter million words 😨
What fandoms do you write for?
Love Island the Game, Too Hot to Handle game, Harry Potter (Dramione exclusive), Romance Club (Heaven’s Secret)
Top five fics by Kudos
Tell Me What You Want (HP)
This Time, I’m Serious
Jaded
Unhealthy
Kinktober 2022
TIL that my Harry Potter fic has overtaken TTIS even though TTIS has more hits.
Do you respond to comments?
Yes! There were a few on TTIS I missed that it would be awkward to reply to because it was so long ago, but I make a point of trying to reply to every comment.
What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
The only sad ending I’ve ever written was the first chapter of Jaded which was originally done as a oneshot.
What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Probably Welcome To Racers. They got the whole shebang. Love me a happily ever after.
Do you get hate on fics?
Not recently. I’ve had hate for my portrayals of Alex, Lucas, and Suresh. But I haven’t had any nasty anon comments in ages which is lovely.
Do you write smut?
Yeah it's kinda my thing.
Craziest crossover:
I don’t know if I’ve done many crossovers… maybe Bruno and Miri Make a Porno or All I Want for Christmas is You which is a hetero take on Red White and Royal blue?
Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of!
Have you ever had a fic translated?
No but I think I would probably die of happiness.
Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I HAVE! All’s Fair in Casa Amor was written with my beautiful friends @i-boop-you and @crimswnred !!!!!!
All time favourite ship?
Dramione (new fave) but for LITG? Hard question because our fandom is so built around an MC. But with two canon characters? I secretly love a Bruno/Valentina. Also love Hope/Lucas. They just WORK.
What's a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
It’s gotta be Recovery. I have the whole thing planned in my head but I just have no motivation to write it at all. Other than that, I don’t see myself finishing Famous Last Words any time soon. If I was going to finish it I’d take it down and rewrite it to make it fully OF.
What are your writing strengths?
Smut probably, I’m not bad at it. I feel like my narrative pacing is alright, and my prose is decent despite it being really inconsistent.
What are your writing weaknesses?
I rely too much on dialogue. I miss all the little body language bits leading up to an important line that could take it from an ‘aww that’s sad’ to a ‘holy fuck I’m sobbing’. Luckily I have wonderful beta’s who help me with this.
But more than anything, characterisation. Forming a fully fleshed out character before I start the story. I struggle with it. I’ve always felt like I’m more of a storyteller, (a plot person) more than a deep dive into a characters psyche kind of person. I love reading character driven stories though, but I think it’s something that comes with writing experience. I haven’t actually been writing for that long and I think I’m getting better at it, but it’s still a weak point.
Thoughts on dialogue in another language?
I sometimes forget that people don’t like this. I LOVE it. I do try and use it sparingly though. It’s so nice to see a character conversing with someone in their native language. I try and put the English dialogue in brackets or italics unless it's rather clear what they're saying (like swearing).
First fandom you wrote in?
LITG
Favourite fic you've written?
I, like Sarah, absolutely hate this question. My fics are my children. I like some of them more than others, though (I never claimed to be the world's best mother). But I love them for different reasons.
I love Welcome to Racers because it was my first AU. I loved The Only Two Things because I got to create an entire world, an entire city for my characters (Yes I'm aware Waterford, Ireland is a real place but God, I loved that story so much). TT,IS was the first fic I started and it gave me the friends I have today and the amount of people who tell me it's S4 canon just makes my whole life. Jaded was something different. It was a challenge to myself and I'm so proud of it. Unhealthy has been the most difficult to write, but it's also pushed me the hardest in my development of characters. FLW has been so much fun because I get to dive back into my music roots, urghhhhhh. Love.
I don't care if it's narcissistic. I re-read my fics on a regular basis. They're perfectly tailored to my taste. I love doing a nice re-read and sprinkling in a few extra details with liberal use of the edit button. If there was someone who knew my fics as well as I did, they'd get something a little bit different on every read. Might just be a line or two, might be a thought or a reaction, but I love to add and tweak and tinker with them all.
Love.

I'm going to continue this bit because honestly the way people are interacting with me is getting significantly more and more annoying.
thinking about tti occupies like, half an hour of my total day, and I didn't even think about it at all when there were no updates.
this blog represents a very tiny, insignificant part of my life and making judgments based off of how I post here is extremely weird. even making assumptions about me based on my main is weird!
I once had a complete stranger reblog one of my joke posts and literally tag it as "no offense op but I have learned everything I need to know about you as a person" like you guys realize why that mindset is extremely creepy and weird, right?
would you say those kinds of things in a conversation with a classmate? a cashier? a new coworker? a distant relative? no! you wouldn't, because that would come off as extremely invasive and stalker-y!
so when you send this blog weird jokes on anon, I can only assume they're jokes, because again, you might joke around with your friends about being homophobic but I don't with mine. so I can only guess that you're kidding and referencing an internet humor thing I don't understand because I'm an adult and don't really use social media anymore.
and what happens in these parasocial relationships you build with internet personas is that you put someone on a pedestal as this untouchable force, you start believing that you are entitled to their time and kindness when these people don't owe you anything. you crave their attention so badly you start sending them dumbass asks either kissing their ass or trying to provoke them because it makes you feel better about yourself, I guess?
but then when the person in question does something that catches you off guard, or that offends you, or that you just don't like, you feel betrayed and hurt, and you turn to attacking them or vagueing them or whatever it is.
this kind of behavior is what leads to these incredibly uncomfortable situations like what happened with mod courtney.
like when I was around 16 years old on an old personal account, I started receiving some pretty inflammatory comments getting mad about the way I was criticizing a piece of media I didn't like. eventually, over private message, a mutual IN HER 20'S admitted to sending them because she felt personally hurt that I was criticizing something she liked. this grown ass woman, who I had never had a conversation with before, had grown such an attachment to me that she took me not liking one of her interests as a personal attack. I was 16 years old and expected to be responsible for the emotions of an adult woman because I made her feel rejected.
this also goes the other way around btw like I have been idolized by minors and it makes me so uncomfortable. PLEASE be safer online, you have no idea who's going to turn out to be a terrible person.
anyway. just because someone is online does not mean it's okay to act like an asshole? I'm so sick of you freaks thinking it's all fine and good to be dickheads because it's words on a screen. you understand that you're talking to real people, right? they're probably reading your asks while taking a fat dump on their grandma's toilet. they have faces. people faces. and lives outside of the internet. and it's disturbing watching you treat other people like entertainment just because they post sometimes.
there's a certain threshold of time between following someone and becoming friends that you need to learn to be respectful during. it's perfectly okay to mess up sometimes and it's okay to feel upset when someone sets a boundary because of you. rejection sensitivity is hard, but expecting everyone else to cater to you instead of working on your internal reactions to perceived rejection and social slights is manipulative.
also purposefully sending people annoying asks to get a rise out of them really isn't funny. are you my five year old little brother now. are you going to sign off each anon with "problem, officer?" can you just call me fat like the good old days. can we just bring back rickrolling instead.
no tldr you read the post or you don't.

Welcome to TTI takes!
A brief intro to tti (for those who somehow stumble across this blog and don't know):
TTI or Total Takes Island is a fan made season made by Mod Joner with a cast consisting on some of the takes mods. The first season was run through a tdi simulator and events were written out based on the results. You can find the results of the simulator over on @totaltakesisland but the story itself is on @total-drama-takes-takes-2 linked in order on the pinned post. If you haven't checked it out I would highly recommend doing so. Once you do this is the place to share all your thoughts on the series!
A guide for the cast:
Start by getting to know them here also labels and heights and who they're based on (also new ttwt bios here here here and here) and now the real names/pronouns based mostly on how they're written in the series (a more official list for some of them is found here):
Albert- he/him
Ass (real name: Natalie)- they/them
Austin- he/him
Bonnie- they/them
Caesar- he/him
Courtney- they/them
Fren (Alistair)- he/him
Frollo (real name: Christian)- he/him
Joner (Jonah boner)- he/him
Julia (real name: Jules)- she/her
Kelly- they/them
Kitty (full name: Ekaterine)- they/them
Mal (real name: Lucy)- she/her
Max- he/him
Mclovin (real name: Reuben)- he/him
Michela- she/her
Noco- he/him
O (short for Oliver)- he/him
Patrick-he/him
Peter-he/him
Phillip- he/him
Scary (real name: ???)- she/they/he
Scruffy- they/them
Sha mod- he/him
Staci (real name Alex)- they/she
A few blog rules:
DO NOT, let me emphasize, DO NOT TAKE YOUR DISCOURSE OUTSIDE THIS BLOG. DO NOT BRING IT TO JONER OR ANY OF THE OTHER MODS!
Let me say it again DO NOT TAKE YOUR DISCOURSE TO JONER OR ANY OF THE MODS
Call me Mod Canada Goose, use whatever pronouns you so desire
Try and have at least a shred of respect for other people on this blog, tti may be td adjacent but we don't need to act like that fandom
Keep the asks related to the total takes series please
Since the entire first season is out, there will be spoilers for the the entirety of the season on this blog. Take that as you will
I reserve the right to delete any asks, these will typically be spam or nsfw asks
I also reserve the right to ban or at least halt any discourse (CURRENTLY: frencest [it's permanently banned, also don't do this shit with anyone else], Marni [people took it too far])
I try to avoid deleting too many asks, so discourse will be tagged as #what am I witnessing (not a serious sounding tag but it makes me giggle), so block that tag if you don't want to see it
I encourage people to send a variety of takes (i.e. don't just focus on one character or ship, it makes the blog feel stagnant)
Let me know if you have any requests for polls or discussions, I am happy to set them up
DO NOT SHIP REAL PEOPLE
Let me know if there's something you need to be tagged (i.e. TWs)
Will add more rules if need be

🥹 Tagged by my loves @chiarrara & @ichaichahatake 🥹
Last song I listened to:
RIZ LA VIE, my top listened artist this year; missed the chance to go to his concerts literally three times (pandemic & then life stuff happened). But he liked my Instagram post showing him on my Spotify Wrapped so I can absolutely die happy.
Favorite Color: Red, the brightest and boldest possible. Passion & blood, sexy & sweet. (Chia knows what's up 👀❤️) I rmmbr I used to love asking ppl their fave color bc idk asking what they're studying or do for work is boring & I think a fave color can say a lot ab a person. I remember a guest speaker came for some event when I was like 14 & I asked and legit Everyone was like "Thats such a dumb question..." Social trauma from that lmao but fuck 'em, I'll never stop asking.
Currently (Re)watching: Just finished rewatching Bojack Horseman which was a horrible idea bc I never saw the finale the first time & well it is not a vibe when ur mental health isn't solid. BUT I'm cheering myself up by rewatching Daily Lives of Highschool Boys which is a hilarious satire anime about anime, absolutely recommend. New watches rn are; ATLA live action (AMAZING), BSD s4, Migi & Dali, Nichijou (FABULOUS), Bakuten/Backflip!!, and How Heavy Are The Dumbbells You Lift? (First long-title anime for me, and it's awesome. Can you believe I'm truly enjoying it in Dub??? *watching with the MVP octal-alchemist in tagged)
Spicy, Savory or Sweet: I can not do spice like a bitch thinks black pepper is too hot, not exaggerating my mom always had to make separate portions of meals w/o spice for me 😭 I fr couldn't choose between savory or sweet, whatever I'm craving in the moment has to do, or not do RIP lmao eating this orders suck 😂
Relationship Status: Pining over your ex and the only person you ever loved and believe you will ever really love or at least never move on from bc your heart never truly knew heartbreak until her while she lives in the same town as you so you keep seeing her on dating apps and even though you know she hates you to the point of no return you still swipe right for the insanity of it counts as a relationship status, right?
Current Obsession: Can't say anime or memes since those are constant, but idk man does chain smoking cigarettes on long walks count? If not maybe like working on digital art in a Starbucks, trying to enjoy the chiller moments more often, like simply reading in the morning before I use my phone... What was the question actually?
Tagging the ho(tti)es who must absolutely be tired of me tagging them in things ✨ RIP ur grandma but I'm built different :/
@octal-alchemist @naiive-and-starry-eyed @sasukeprime @tojiswhore-nanamisslut @pineypigs @hojoslutoru @fruityalchemist @poopwons @casualnearenjoyer
*I may have forgotten some peeps bc we all know I have the memory of a goldfish with dementia, so feel free to do this if u want! ❤️
Nine people I'd like to get to know better

Last Song I Listened To: one I composed myself (I'm working on it this very moment, even though I should be studying for the chem analytics exam tomorrow)
Favourite Colour: marigold yellow, burgundy red, petrol, light salmon, light mint, various shades of pink
Currently (Re)Watching: Naruto, MLB, Liebes Kind, Dark, Knives Out

Shuffle Playlist
ttI was tagged by @takemetoasgard thank you so much (I legit started to squeak in excitement, I love being tagged in things!)
Rules: You can usually tell a lot about a person by the type of music they listen to! Put your favorite playlist on shuffle and list the first 10 songs, then tag 10 people. No skipping!
I used my “Spotify favourite Songs” - Playlist. That list has about 763 songs at the moment, just to put things in perspective.
Deer Dance by System Of A Down
Spöksonat by Ghost
Antichrist Superstar by Marilyn Manson
March to the Sea by twenty one pilots
Homecoming by Green Day
Last Night in New Orleans by Tankus the Henge
Where the Devil Dont Go by Elle King
Wherein Lies Continue by Slipknot
Nothing Makes Sense Anymore by Mike Shinoda
Schism by Anthrax
Bonus (cause he really deserves more recognition): [n]ever Present by Max Karon.
Ofc this misses some other favourites of mine (In Flames, Katatonia, Avatar, Dio, Faith No More, this list could go on forever...) but I think you get the general direction of my music taste. This was super fun! Thanks again for tagging me :)
I tag: @noxghoul @sinistereo and @feralthot . Please dont feel obliged to do it if you dont feel like it. If you havent been tagged but want to do it anyways, I am officially tagging you now.

CHARACTER TAG INSPIRATION PHOTOS PINTEREST BOARD
Vik Vektor was born as Viktor Vranjković to Croatian American parents in January of 2031. Vik’s family was never particularly well off. Both of his parents worked in the Northside Industrial District, something that used to be a badge of honour. Originally an ever-growing district with plans of becoming one of the city’s most affluent zones, in 2033 the jobs suddenly dried out, and whatever plans the city had for the area got abandoned. Factories closed, schools got downsized, and building projects for housing and businesses got suspended. By some miracle Dominik got to keep his job at a canning factory, but Petra was laid off and was thus forced to become a stay-at-home-mom. Though she relentlessly searched and applied, jobs were tight, and very few employers would hire people with little more than factory work as their background. As being stuck at home with nothing to do (with three sons under the age of 10) was unthinkable for Petra, she started a business from home. She used her self-learnt sewing skills (something her mother had taught her and that she had then honed while constantly repairing her sons’ clothes) to make a small tailor’s shop in their house’s garage. While the money wasn’t much, it helped to keep Petra occupied, and brought home just enough extra eddies to keep their finances from constantly going into ongoing debt.
After the economic collapse and subsequent ruin of the NID, “you move to Northside, you’ll die in Northside” was a phrase that became well known both in and out of the neighbourhood. The once booming district became unstable and marred by gangs like Maelstrom, consequently making not getting hit by a stray bullet a daily activity for everyone living there. An easily irritated teenager, Vik found it difficult to hold his tongue, but considering him opening his mouth could at worst lead to death; either him or a member of his family; he mostly kept his head down. He learned to use a different route to come home when the gang’s cars blocked the road, and stayed silent when Maelstrom threatened to end his mother’s business if the family didn’t pay a protection fee. The one time Vik did speak up, around the age 15, he was later that week jumped by a trio of Maelstroms, who used a baseball bat to cave one side of his ribs in. He forced himself to stay quiet from thereon out. When Vik became a known face in boxing circles, he asserted what he back then called “deserved justice” by fighting one of his assaulters half to death, leaving them bleeding on the street. He’s regretted it ever since, and desperately tried to atone for it by holding on to his Hippocratic oath like a lifeline, but is also well aware how the incident has since added to his legend in Northside. As an homage to where he comes from, the word ‘Northside’ is one part of the full sleeve Vik has on his right arm.
Vik started boxing when he was still a kid. He had a lot of pent up energy that had to get channelled somehow, something regular playing outside just wouldn’t do. Having two older brothers definitely didn’t help, as a rowdy kid like Vik was easy to rile up and be convinced to do all sorts of stupid stunts; especially if the stunt was posed as a dare. Around the age of twelve Vik was at risk of becoming an angry and violent teenager, to which boxing gave him an outlet. It turned out that he was fiercely competitive, and when put in charge of training and working on himself to get better, he excelled at it. Whenever he lost, he got up and tried to do better, which has become a consistent theme in his life later as well. After winning a small match in Northside when he was 16, fighting a Maelstrom recruit no less, Vik got scouted by a retired heavyweight boxer, who would go on to train Vik for the entirety of his boxing career. With the right kind of training Vik made a name for himself quickly, garnering support and sponsorships along the way. Small local tournaments eventually turned into something bigger and would ultimately lead on to Watson Boxing Grand Prix in 2061, where Vik would finally place second. After a relatively long career as a boxer, and after twilighting as a medic for other boxers for a few years while still actively boxing himself, Vik chose to retire at the age of 32, three years after WBGP.
Vik married Karla, a childhood friend from Northside, when he was 28 and Karla was 27. She wanted a family right away, but Vik was more focused on his boxing career, and thus kept pushing the thought to the side. Boxing for skill turned to boxing for money, which turned to boxing for the championship. Whenever he completed a milestone he wanted to reach something more, with everything else having to take the backseat. When he made the decision to retire, for Karla starting a family seemed like a natural choice; but Vik already had his next career goal in mind. After three years of marriage where they kept growing apart, Karla asked for a divorce. A few years later Karla fell in love again, to a mutual friend of theirs. There’s never been any animosity between Vik and Karla, not during the separation or the divorce that followed, and that has stayed the same. She still considers him a friend, and he feels the same. Karla and her husband Declan have two children together (Leo and Poppy), who love to come visit “uncle Vik” every now and then.
Vik had never excelled in school. He was an overly energetic child that would not sit still, let alone focus when the task at hand didn’t seem clear or interesting to him. What he was good at was maths, chemistry and physics, because numbers always seemed to make sense to him, but he struggled with virtually everything else. He had not one creative bone in his body, which made things like art and learning languages incredibly painful. And so, with a lot of knowledge in boxing injuries fresh in his mind, becoming a paramedic felt natural. He completed his paramedic’s studies in Night City, and after two years of working as a paramedic at a fire department’s ambulance bay, Vik jumped at the chance to become a field medic.
Vik’s sharp as a tack and tough as nails personality suited becoming a field medic more than well. He excelled under pressure, never struggling to make decisions and get the job done, even while under full assault. He had to work in high danger situations and had to learn both combat medicine and gunhangling to keep himself and his team safe. His background as a boxer that grew up in Northside, side by side with Maelstrom and their endless gang activities, made him an unstoppable force that would do everything in his power to pull his team through each mission. During his 7-year-long career Vik came to be known as a highly skilled medic and a proficient leader for his team. With glowing recommendations from his employer, getting a job offer from the coveted Trauma Team International first felt like a jackpot.
Being part of the TTI taught him a lot, but in the end its corpo-centricity was too apparent for Vik to ignore. Turning down patients in dire need of help just because their insurance didn’t cover a specific type of urgent care rubbed him the wrong way from the start, and was often a point of contention between him and his employers. After taking a patient on board his hovercraft to extract them from a volatile situation (a patient whose insurance had expired the day before), Vik’s contract at TTI was terminated. Not one to get knocked down and not get back up, with his savings from his boxing days, Vik moved to Watson and bought a business complex near Bradbury & Buran’s metro terminal. The front already housed a small business that kept renting the space from him, and Vik set up a clinic in the back alley, in the more spacious basement and garage area.
During his boxing days things like anti-concussion cyberware were not readily available, and none of the boxers were equipped with performance enhancing gadgets. Since retiring from boxing he’s been diagnosed with a mild case of CTE, but since technology has leapt forward in the time since he ended his boxing career, there is no threat of the CTE getting any worse, or affecting him much. The only thing left are the stabilising meds he needs to inject himself with before surgery; just because he’s convinced his surgical exoglove does the job a thousand times better than any cyber hand ever could, and has thus opted out of cybernetics for his left hand. He’s constantly recalibrating the glove to make sure it’s working exactly as he wants it to, making his work ever reliable and precise.
Vik’s had his clinic for four years now, and has built himself a solid reputation in the process as the best ripperdoc in Watson, and one of the best in all of Night City. As one-third-mechanic, one-third-hacker and one-third-field-medic Vik stitches people up after a fight and installs cyberware to those who have no money for licensed equipment – let alone licensed medical care. Whatever the need, he’s there to supply, to people in and out of Watson. The gangs in Watson have come to respect him, fully knowing his clinic has only one person who calls the shots – Vik. When looking for loyalty in a place like Night City, Vik is one of the reliable few. A master of his trade, he can be kind and caring and even offer cyberware in exchange for IOU’s, but is equally unyielding to those who he feels don’t deserve his kindness.
Viktor has gone by Viktor Vektor since his days at TTI. His surname was nigh impossible for people to pronounce (let alone write), which led him to the decision of adopting his now famous moniker. He did hope abandoning his father’s surname would deter people from recognizing him as the Watson heavyweight champion, but that hasn’t been the case. One of the benefits of his fame, however, is that his past in Northside gives him the respect he needs to keep his clinic free from getting jumped by every gang in the neighbourhood.

Your favorite pub/dev is shady
I spend a lot of time dragging Publishers like EA, Activision, Ubisoft, and others. As warranted and deserved as it is, we can’t become too dreamy-eyed even in the cases of our favorite faces in gaming. So with this post, I wanted to take a rock to the stained glass windows of your favorite companies and some of mine. In the words of Run the Jewels “Kill your masters”.
Bethesda
Creation Club is one of the biggest issues beyond the more notorious faults of the infamous Bethesda. Creation Club is paid mods. I don’t care what Pete Hines says, when you pay money to modify the game it’s paid fucking mods dude. This is a direct encroachment on one of the best and most pure aspects of PC gaming. Modding turns games into different experiencing, fixes the bugs that a lot of their games ship with and never get fixed because it’s “part of the charm” or “just works”. Which brings me to my next point: Bethesda is the only studio in gaming that gets away with this every single time. Ubisoft put out AC Unity and was grilled for months after release about facial texture issues and whatnot. Everyone gets railed while Bethesda gets a pass every time. Also, can we talk about how one year ago from this E3 Bethesda was waving the single player flag as high and hard as they can? Only to bring out Fallout76 and it’s an online shared world game. I have no problem with doing things differently or moving in a different direction for a non-main title game. Perhaps maybe you should’ve held off on this for another year or two? Made it less of a surprise? I think a lot of fans will come around to this title but the sharp pivot is understandably jarring and Bethesda maybe should’ve anticipated that.  Alongside the mighty shitty practice of pre-ordering for a beta code....what the fuck kind of “money now” bullshit is that. That literally defeats the purpose of a beta for a lot of people. Getting to test out this wildly different experience is important to people that care about the franchise but just aren’t willing to pay for something they aren’t sure they’re going to enjoy. A reasoning that is perfectly understandable in my opinion. I love Bethesda but holy god do they get away with murder without so much as a strange look from the majority of people.
Microsoft
I’ll get the obvious issue of console exclusives out of the way. This is straight up disgraceful the way they do the loyal fans of Xbox. Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2, Forza Motorsport 7, Halo Wars 2, and Cuphead. Remove Cuphead from that list and it’s a little pathetic especially considering some big name exclusives they had for the 360 (Saints Row, DoA4, Fable 2, Lost Odyssey, N3). The Xbox One’s initial reveal and release state were woefully tone deaf. A sad attempt to pander to gimmicks that shouldn’t be the focus of a console: motion sensors and television streamlining. Yes, they eventually corrected that mistake but to even consider such a poor decision was clearly a poor attempt to reach everyone but gamers. This entire generation was a bit of a misstep, unfortunately, outside of the impressively powerful Xbox One X there is next to nothing for Microsoft to actually boast about outside of the new console benchmark. What games have they contributed to their fanbase and loyal customers? This aspect isn’t so much shady as it is dumb. From the release of the One X with no games. To the games they backed so fervently only for them to flop hard. It’s clear they’re working on it given the recent studio acquisitions and the shift in focus some studios are going to be making. Why they had to forsake an entire generation for this to happen is simply beyond me.
Nintendo
Between their online service and the interesting terms/ conditions of said service. The shitty pre-orders they offer for said internet service which is one of the most insane requests of a company I’ve ever heard of. Can we talk about the vice grip on their content/IPs? Ever notice you don’t see much Nintendo content on YouTube? Seriously look up anything Nintendo and the new games many videos don’t feature unique gameplay. I’m not saying there aren’t any videos but it’s known that Nintendo can and will take down any video they see fit. Yes, it’s well within their rights as a company to do so. However, when Nintendo is doing it to fans, people who are trying to celebrate and appreciate what they’ve done, it comes across as wildly ungrateful. Especially when ya know, they wouldn’t be anything without the wildly enthusiastic customer base. Prime example: a YouTuber recreated the Bomb-omb Battlefield stage in Unity. It was nostalgic, beautiful, and kind of funny. What did Nintendo do? They order a DMC Takedown on the video. A harmless recreation video this wasn’t even any kind of playable game and wasn’t going to be. What was the point of this? Who benefits? They could’ve capitalized and got to work on a remake, tell me that wouldn’t sell. Instead, they insist on hurting fans for what boils down to free advertisement. I think Nintendo is so focused on being Nintendo that they’ve lost what it means to be...Nintendo. If that makes sense.
Sony
Sony has been hacked so many times I genuinely think Paul Blart runs their cyber security department. Sony needs to get their shit together in this area of their service ya know the cornerstone of the console in the modern era. Alongside that, Sony is very pressed on keeping their system and IP, and everything about it very isolated. Xbox and Nintendo are down for cross-play and Sony is sitting in the corner arms crossed not wanting to join in. When they know damn well that’s where all this is going anyway. Not to mention their strange aversion to modding on titles that lead to strangled communities in games like Skyrim and Fallout4. I’ve also already talked about PSNow v GamePass and how much better GamePass is despite it coming out years after PSNow. Yes this section is short but the problems are very big and potentially damaging to Sony and their reputation. They need to get on the ball or find themselves in Microsoft’s position come the next generation.
Take-Two Interactive (Rockstar and 2k)
TTI as a publisher is deceptively devious. They lay low and in the background unlike EA making sure everyone knows when a subsidiary works on a game that it’s also theirs. Take-Two owns two very prominent developers in the industry (2k and Rockstar) and they know it because at every turn they are monetizing them. GTA 5 is amazing, GTA online is a pay to win crapshoot. Planes costing an upwards of 20 to 40 real-world dollars. The in-game currency is difficult to earn in massive quantities required to pay such exuberant price tags. The shark cards were so well implemented it made GTA the most lucrative entertainment franchise of all time. They were so successful that games like NBA 2k and Red Dead Redemption 2 will feature them. Games that do not need them at all and only make the games a lifeless money hole. RDD2 isn’t out but the publisher already stated that monetization was going to be a focus on their games from here on out.

Using RTLS to Fight COVID-19
Tumblr media
The COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on society, changing our habits, ways of interaction, and work processes. Today, companies more than ever strive to adhere to safety measures while maintaining optimal performance. And a real-time locating system (RTLS) helps them with that. How?
RTLS allows you to locate people or objects and navigate. Companies are successfully using this solution to optimize workflows and keep their employees safe amid coronavirus. Below are four ideas for utilizing such technology.
No. 1 Social distancing
RTLS allows you to locate people in real-time to monitor compliance with social distancing. For example, employees of an enterprise can wear small tags on their clothes or wrists. These labels track the distance between colleagues and send a vibration alert if they get too close to each other. This type of solution is suitable for offices, factories, hospitals, and other facilities.
No. 2 Contact tracing
Contact tracing is another crucial element in the fight against the COVID-19 threat. The described technology helps to find out where infected people were and whom they interacted with. According to Thomas Hasselman, Chief Marketing Officer at Quuppa, RTLS can back-check people’s locations. Based on the data collected, all the contacts will receive notifications if a person tests positive for COVID-19. Mr. Hasselman believes that after the current pandemic, contact tracing based on RTLS will become the new standard in the workplace, especially in hospitals.
No. 3 Quarantine monitoring
Today, many governments are moving towards a TTI strategy: test, trace, and isolate. But how to make sure that people follow the conditions of quarantine? Here again, RTLS comes to the rescue. For example, healthcare workers can use this technology to create a virtual geofence for each quarantined person. In this case, the patient must wear an RTLS tag provided by the health authority. If they try to leave the designated area or remove the mark, the system will notify the officials.
No. 4 Tracking of assets and people in hospitals
Using RTLS, one can locate any wheelchair, medical device, hospital bed, patient, doctor, and other object or person in real time. Moreover, the system displays their statuses. For example, whether a patient has recovered, whether a bed is free, whether the equipment is ready for use or needs repair, etc. That will speed up patient care in times of the pandemic and in the context of a large flow of people during routine examinations and calls for emergency medical care.
For just over a year, society has been blocked by a pandemic. Scientists predict that in a year or two, the coronavirus will join the cohort of seasonal viruses that cause respiratory diseases in people. Today is the time to restore human relationships, work processes, and financial resources while staying safe. People should use all kinds of tools, methods, and technologies to do so. RTLS is just one of the unique solutions that will help us achieve these goals.

Checking mobile site speed and SEO with Google Lighthouse
With Lighthouse you have a new Google tool for checking mobile site speed and SEO. In this post, I explain what this tool is and how to use it to improve the performance of your site.
Lighthouse is a page experience tool built by Google and was initially meant to audit Progressive Web Apps (PWA). The tool executes five audits for accessibility, performance, SEO, Progressive Web Apps and an extended list of best practices. Powered by the new Core Web Vitals, these audits together give you an excellent overview of the quality and performance of your mobile website as well as your desktop site, or web app.
Tumblr media
Lighthouse for PureSourceCode.com: we have to work on that
Site speed is all about perception and user experience. Speed in numbers means nothing if your site still feels slow. Loads of users around the world are on rather crappy mobile connections of 3G or less. Even with lightning-fast 5G connections, a site can simply feel laggy and slow. And we all know what a devastating effect a slow site can have on your conversion. Shaving milliseconds of the time needed to load your site could make a world of difference. Not to mention the frustration that happens when a slow-loading ad pushes down the button you just wanted to click.
While testing, Google Lighthouse simulates visiting your mobile site via a flaky 3G connection on a slightly underpowered device. Packets are lost in an attempt to simulate real-world conditions as authentically as possible. These insights are combined with other data. After running the test, you’ll get a report with a score and actionable advice with issues to tackle.
PageSpeed Insights vs. Google Lighthouse
PageSpeed Insights is probably the most used site speed analysis tool out there. It gives you a nice score and a list of possible improvements, plus it gives you an idea of the perceived loading speed of your site.
Also, PageSpeed Insights gives recommendations and identifies opportunities to improve the performance of your page. Some of these do tend to be hard implement, so getting a 100/100 is a pipe dream for most sites.
PageSpeed Insights and Lighthouse used to be two different tools for the job. They both provided valuable insights, but were hard to combine. With the advent of Web Vitals and the page experience update, Google improved the metrics across the board. Not only did they become easier to understand, they were also shared metrics. Of course, each tool is made for a specific subtask and offers specific metrics. These metrics come from different environments.
Field data vs. lab data
Web Vitals introduced new ways of determining performance. Some of these metrics can be calculated in a lab setting — simulated, so to say, while other metric only make sense if there are tested and collected in the field. In addition, some metrics work well in both settings. Google page experience tools use a variety of the metrics to provide you with the data you need to improve your site.
If you look closely, you’ll notice that some metrics only work in lab tools like the Developer Tools and Lighthouse. The field metrics appear in tools like the Web Vitals report in Search Console and PageSpeed Insights. The Core Web Vitals like LCP, FID and CLS will work everywhere.
Core Web Vitals
The brand-new Core Web Vitals will appear in all Google tools that measure site speed, performance and experience — even in the new Web Vitals report in Search Console. Now, you simply have to understand three basic metrics to get a sense of how your site or specific pages are performing. These Core Web Vitals are:
LCP, or Largest Contentful Paint: Or, how long it takes for the largest content element you see in the viewport to load.
FID, or First Input Delay: Or, how long it takes for a browser to respond to an interaction first triggered by the user (clicking a button, for instance)
CLS, or Cumulative Layout Shift: Or, how much of the screen is affected by movement — i.e. does stuff jump around on screen?
These new Web Vitals take a much more practical approach and put user experience front and center. The tools visit your site over a throttled connection on an average device so it can emulate what a real visitor in the real world might experience. Instead of just loading your site like the classic speed tools used to do, these Web Vitals-powered tools check how and when it responds to input — and if stuff happens after the initial load. It finds the exact moment when your content is ready to use, so you can try and optimize that when it feels too slow. Plus, you can find annoyances that hinder a good page experience.
Also, keep in mind that Lighthouse not only measures performance, but also checks SEO, various best practices and accessibility. It is a complete tool that helps you improve your site holistically.
What to look for in Lighthouse results
As I said, Google Lighthouse is trying more realistic angle, taking page experience into account checking mobile site speed and SEO.
The whole concept of speeding up your mobile site is two-pronged; your site must be fast, and it must feel fast. You, therefore, need to get your content on screen as fast as possible. Don’t let people wait. Also, users must be able to interact with your content as soon as possible. Since Google announced that page speed and page experience are ranking factors for SEO, you need to fix these issues.
What should your priority be? Load your content first. Awesome graphics and killer animations can wait. Your message – and what people are looking for – is most likely in the content. You can load the rest of the content in the background and ease it on the screen later on.
Performance metrics used by Lighthouse 6.0
While measuring the performance of your site, Lighthouse 6.0 uses the following metrics:
First Contentful Paint: FCP measures how long it takes the browser to render the first piece of DOM content after a user navigates to your page. This includes, images, non-white <canvas> elements, and SVGs but excludes stuff inside an iframe.
Speed Index: The Speed Index measures how quickly content is visually displayed during page load.
Largest Contentful Paint: The LCP is all about how long it takes for the largest content object (for instance, an image or a block of text) to load. This is one of the most important new metrics. Here, having a good score means users perceive your site as loading quickly.
Time to Interactive: TTI measures the time it takes from loading the page to when it is capable of reliably responding to user input quickly. The page might look quick to load, only to find that pushing some buttons doesn’t do anything yet.
Total Blocking Time: The TBT measures the time between the FCP and TTI where blockades can happen, preventing responsiveness.
Cumulative Layout Shift: The CLS looks at the number of layout shifts that happen during the full loading process of the page. Every time an element jumps around on the screen from frame to frame, this counts as a layout shift. Remember those nasty ads that load at the last moment?
You can see how your score is calculated by going to the Lighthouse Scoring Calculator:
Tumblr media
Lighthouse Scoring Calculator
The Lighthouse report also features some opportunities to improve the site speed of your mobile site, including how much loading time they will save. These include reducing render-blocking stylesheets, render-blocking scripts, properly sizing images and fixing offscreen images.
The Lighthouse SEO check
Lighthouse doesn’t do just performance, it also has an accessibility test, suggestions on improving your site based on best practices and a PWA analysis. Another cool Lighthouse feature is the basic SEO check. With this check, you can run a simple SEO audit to uncover basic SEO issues a site may have. It gives you suggestions to fix them as well. Since Lighthouse runs locally in your browser, you can run the checks on your staging environment as well.
Currently, Lighthouse checks:
The mobile-friendliness of a page
If the structured data is valid
Does it have a <meta name="viewport"> tag with width or initial-scale
Does the document have a <title> element?
Is there a meta description?
Does the page have a successful HTTP status code?
Do links have descriptive anchor text?
Does the document use legible font sizes?
Is page not blocked from indexing?
Is the robots.txt valid?
Do images have alt attributes?
Does the document have a valid hreflang implementation?
Does the document have a valid rel=canonical set up?
Are there any unwanted plugins like Java or Flash?
Although basic, the Lighthouse checks will alert you of any SEO problems to fix.
How to install Google Lighthouse
With the new Web Vitals metrics (checking mobile site speed and SEO), Google Lighthouse is trying more realistic angle, taking page experience into account. To use this tool, you have to download Google Chrome and then install a new plug-in.
Getting started with Google Lighthouse is very easy as it is built into Chrome’s Developer Tools Audit panel (Mac: Shift+Cmd+I. Win: Ctrl+Shift+J or F12). From there, you can run the test and get the full report. In addition, there is a separate Chrome add-on for Lighthouse that adds a button to your toolbar, though using it stays the same with a few restrictions: you can’t validate sites on your local server and authenticated pages also won’t work.
You can also run Lighthouse as a Node package. This way, you can incorporate the test into your build process. When using the Node package, you will also see that there are a couple of audits that only work in a Node environment and not in the Audits panel of the DevTools.
To install Lighthouse globally from the command line use:
npm install -g lighthouse
If you want to run a test for https://example.com use:
lighthouse https://example.com
The full results of the audit will be available in the terminal, but also in a separate HTML file.
