i'd like to think chuuya knows bits of french to some extent bc rimbaud would often randomly exclaim smth or mumble to himself in his native tongue and chuuya would overhear and pick up the little phrases and store it in the back of his mind unconsciously bc of his intrinsically observant nature, only for those phrases to resurface again when he's fighting verlaine and verlaine goes "sacre bleu!" or some shit and chuuya's like "Oh. OH. IVE HEARD THAT BEFORE...WASNT THAT WHAT SUB EXEC RANDOU ALWAYS USED TO SAY...." and verlaine completely halts with a nebulous expression on his face before going "who?????"
#yeah maybe i just said this bc i want to hear chuuya speak french. what of it? shut up.#do you think when verlaine approached chuuya as a mailman and told him to get in the car#his undeniable subtle french accent faintly registered in the back of chuuya's mind as the same tone rimbaud would speak in#and when adam yelled “THATS VERLAINE” the dots simultaneously connected as chuuya realized who the driver was#having stormbringer thoughts again... i miss this sad gay european family sm#hope chuuya brings verlaine a baguette back from france since they're in meursault still#maybe he'll move his ass out of the basement then#bsd

Just dreamt my dad was going to cook me a meal called a "brand breton" which was apparently just a rotisserie chicken sandwich. I woke up before he could explain fully what it was
#turns out both brand and breton are french words.#whats more is together they mean “breton blade”. the adjective is even correctly masculine#whichis crazy because i dont know a lick of french#also he said it with the french accent

More notes for Roach conlanging. Roach has grammatical gender, in which only Male, Female, and Object are grammatical genders, whereas Worker uses feminine grammar, Queen and King use a slight variant on feminine grammar, and Drone, and Queen-Alate use masculine grammar. This is because King is derived from Queen, due to their similar positions in a colony, and Queen-Alate is derived from Drone, as both are forms of alate.
Queen is an alteration of feminine grammar that functionally just adds a handful of extra syllables to it, and King is an offsprout of Queen that uses the same grammar with different pronouns. Queen-Alate, despite the name, is derived from Drone, as they are both for referring to different types of alate ant.
Most Roach dialects are intelligible to speakers of Snakemouth Den Cordyceps Roach, but Snakemouth Den Cordyceps Roach is not entirely intelligable to speakers of Roach dialects due to a mix of the excessively specialized vocabulary caused by the specific needs of its speakers, the fact that its speakers do not necessarily have Roach mouthparts and thus may not pronounce syllables in a similar way, and due to the fact that Inanimate Object is a full grammatical gender that does not exist in any other dialect of roach and replaces a decent chunk of terminology for things that previously had Other Words For Them.
#we speak#conlang#bug fables#please excuse us if we're mangling the terminology here btw. we cannot for the life of us remember the proper terms for half of this#and every time we try to google things it winds up turning up nothing#probably because we're googling shit like “the term for the thing where self reference is different if youre a guy or a girl”#and like. “part of speech that you use to refer to other people that isnt pronouns or a name that has title associations”#if we reread some textbooks we will probably remember but unfortunately these are not our textbook reference posts#they are our “what if we told you about the cool ways that we did grammar in here” post#god we love grammatical grammar (<guy who doesn't have a strong enough sense of gender to remember der and die properly)#(because we are the specific type of speaker where we're half operating based on what Feels Right with the word and we are)#(so fucking bad at remembering how gendering words is meant to go)#(the secret reason we hate phonetics is because we have to contend with both figuring out how mouthparts would work and like)#(Working Out A Reasonable Collection Of Sounds To Have In Our Language. which means we have to actually like. name things)#(cruel and unusual that we have to make actual words rather than loosely tossing building blocks on the floor. honestly.)#anyways snakemouth den roach is one of those dialects where it's on the verge of becoming a language on its own#where it's very debatable on if it's Actually A New Language or just a very specific dialect of an old one because. well. boxes#picture it as like. trying to speak to someone who you Think is speaking french but they have an extremely thick regional accent#and they keep using like ten-syllable words that you probably don't know but that seem to refer to things that could be referred to#way more concisely?#and also rather than just le and la they have added an entire new lu to the mix and you are unclear if its the accent or a new word entirel#(note: we are not a specialist on french as we primarily know it in the “we've been around it long enough to vaguely know what's being said#way and are not currently caught up enough on whatever they have going on to know about any major grammar stuff going on over there)#(but we are terrible enough with remembering the grammar of the german that we do speak that we do not trust ourself to not be Worse there)

I dont want to mentally keep you up when you sleep but…
Google how to pronounce siffrin. Ive been misreading wrong the entire time 😢
I think "seef-reen" might confuse people, but his name is said with a French accent, so it'd be like.... sif-run ! sif-frun... its the... "Un" sound instead of "in"........
the creator pronounces Siffrin's name both in English and French tho, as siff-rin or sif-frun, so i dont think it matters !
#ask#i also say it with in or un#seef-reen doesn't sound right. maybe im reading it wrong. super heavy americain accent. REEN#its a french game tho. everything is read in french#double E in english is the hard sound isn't it. if its a soft sound then... its siff-rin.. right... how are you saying it...#got my head spinning in english and french rn#said the name so much to myself its not a real word anymore

Brennan: in the mountains of Luxembourg
me, from Luxembourg: *gets jumpscared*
me: mf we ain't got mountains in Luxembourg
#dimension 20#d20 never stop blowing up#brennan lee mulligan#we got hills we got some dope cliffs and castle walls in the capital city#no mountains tho#lotsa woods and farm land#look at a topographical map idiot#also no counts or ppl named Otto Van Schreik but ok#we're excusing it with bad action movie writing smh#the dutch used to own our country for ages despite not sharing a border with us they can fuck right off#and the nazis tried to annex us during ww2 so anyone with as german a name as otto is also highly unlikely#there's literally a clause in our name change law that you're allowed to change your name from the german version if you want#bc the nazis forced ppl to change their names to the german version back then#we got way more french-aligned first names and a mix of german- & french-aligned last names#including like the entirety of my close family's first names being the french spelling#cause we as a country said fuck the germans after ww2#and changed all our street signs n shit to be french instead#+ then we had various waves of immigrants from different countries over the last like century#so you got lots of italian and portuguese names around too (among others)#ALSO also you can literally look up jean-claude juncker (pls note french first name) to learn what a lux accent sounds like in english#cause man does it sound bad but it sure don't sound like whatever the fuck mulligan is doing rn#update: otto not from lux he's excused

I really do enjoy the French translation of the Dungeon Meshi anime, it's obvious that they put in the work and effort, but I feel like they could've found a way to say Thistle/Sissel's name without it sounding like they're calling him "so alone" (si seul). Maybe borrowing from the japanese pronounciation more so it's closer to "Shisuru" or something
#that being said i thoroughly enjoy the way that 'halfelin' sounds#it may be directly taken from english and pronounced with a french accent but it sounds really authentic imo#dungeon meshi#gloutons et dragons#thistle dungeon meshi#sissel

also hi. me and jess ended up binge watching iwtv s2 yesterday.
#agh vampire trauma... i love it...#anyway. didn't go to bed till like 3am.#i keep catching myself slipping into lestat's voice.#he's not even the main guy of s2 but... i love him his voice is so easy to do for some reason??#hmmm#also i read a book this morning (an entire book in 3 hours) while i waited for jess to get up and it was so terrible#it was supposed to be about werewolves but it wasn't wolfy enough and it was full of errors#and i'm so annoyed that i read it in the first place! like jesus. first of all i thought it was a stand alone but it's not. it's 1 of 3?#SOMEHOW#and it ended on a sort of cliff hanger?#i don't think i give enough of a fuck to read the other two bc GOD but also man... 3hrs of my life...#sighhhhhhhhhhh#at one point it was supposed to say '___ tries to break free from his restraints'#but instead of restraints it said RESTAURANTS!!!!!#so many errors and typos and missing words and complete fuck ups (RESTAURANTS) that i honest to god cannot believe this is a finished book#which people can purchase and read#it read like something i woulda wrote at 3am at age 15!!!!#rambly and in dire need of proofreading??? i just WHAT#anyway i'm actually shakespeare. that's what i've learned from this experience. sigh#mmmm#if anyone read this far i'm giving you a kiss on the forehead and calling you 'sweetheart' with a french accent okay#diaerie

Blood Banquet (Crestoria OST Addition Version).
Type: Skit (xMA with Misella). Character: Kanata (Third Skit). Characters Featured: Kanata, Misella, Vicious, Aegis, Yuna.
Translation, recording, subbing by Shi. Proofread by Yewfelle.
NOTE: About halfway into the skit, there's a BGM change. This was an edit made by me and is not used in the original skit. The original, unedited version of this is also on my YT channel and this blog.
#Tales of the Rays#Tales of Crestoria#Kanata Hjuger#Misella (Crestoria)#Vicious (Crestoria)#Aegis Alver#Yuna Azetta#Type: Skit#Tales of the Rays Translations#Translation notes: In JP Yuna refers to Aegis as “Aetsun” in reference to his “tsundere” nature#The localization uses “Aegrouch” to a get similar idea nickname across (and one I feel combines better!)#so I retained the localization usage here. Similarly (not seen in this skit but appears in an event) she refers to Kanata as Kana-bo#(similar to Moses using Jay-bo though in Moses' case he uses Jay's full name and here Yuna shortens Kanata's name)#(Also side note that the nicknames she uses in Rays are still what she uses in Crestoria itself.#That said going forward I'll be retaining Yuna's localized nicknames and accent#so Misella will still be “Mademoiselle” (Yuna uses ojou-chan for her which is effectively “young lady” with an affectionate “cute” suffix).#Unfortunately alas we have no Orboo though. :( Orboo is here in spirit and in our hearts...#Also please be aware I will not be using any French words in Yuna's dialogue.#I'll talk about this more in a separate post so I can combine it with her nickname information.#This stuff will also mostly be in the video description on YT.#Also yes Misella's line of “it will be fine I'm sure of it probably” was literally the JP dialogue LOL.#This cast is so fun to translate for...

one thing's for sure, i will always eat up the iwtv movie. i genuinely think it's a great adaptation and it's my little baby and i love it very much
#there are valid criticisms about it (like lestat's lack of a french accent) but it was all we had for so long#and i will never stop loving it#i'm kissing it right now and putting it in my pocket actually#*criticisms of it#that being said don't get me started on the casting of armand lmao#original#iwtv 1994#interview with the vampire#the vampire chronicles#anne rice

inspired by @something2believe's poll i wanted to know how my followers pronounce my name. arguably my name is quite international so there shouldn't be any "weird" versions of the pronunciation but i still want to know!
#no wrong or right answers#like i said a lot of languages have their versions of it so i'm 100% ok with people using their own versions#even i say my name with an english accent when speaking english#and a friend calls me 'veronique' in front of her french bf#so it's all good#copied the ipa spelling from wikipedia#the main difference is that in polish there's an 'oh' sound in the middle and in english there's more of an 'ah'#trying to explain pronunciation sucks hhhh#if you have some strange complex answer to this poll let me know in the comments or on anon
