in spanish they named him Sellelio. which would translate more or less as Stamplius. as in that's his Name not just a nickname...... crazy

because i am sickeningly fascinated with shadowvanilla's dynamic and am also fascinated with translation and linguistics, i've been using machine translation and my basic grasp of japanese to look through their kr and jp interactions. it's mostly for fun and curiosity and the nuances are definitely lost, so take them with a pinch of salt, but here's some interesting little tidbits:

in both kr and jp, when pv asks who he is, sm says something along the lines of how pv has been 'in my space, in front of my gaze', which feels a little more specific than the english and also makes it seem like sm has a claim over the space. interestingly, this is still followed by him later explicitly referring to the space as the abyss of pv's soul - though in kr, sm may call it 'where i looked into the abyss of your soul' rather than pv's soul itself. I don't have the korean knowledge to be able to try and verify that, though it would make sense, since the space is also supposedly the dark side of the moon

(though if it is the dark side of the moon, why is pv always there for his breakdowns? and if it is the abyss of pv's soul, how is sm there? through soul jam magic nonsense??)

when talking about their power, jp and kr describe it as 'the power you mistake for truth is just dancing in my giant palm of knowledge', which is really just a difference in metaphor but does give some cool ties to sm's whole puppeteer theme

in kr only, sm specifies that pv has never left his sight 'from start to finish'. it was kind of implied in the use of never anyway, but i do find the specification interesting, even though it still doesn't really give us any pointers as to when this supposed start is

in eng, after complaining about how pv snatched away half his power, sm laments that the light of truth didn't make pv any smarter ('baffling! befuddling!'). in jp, he specifically says 'after all, you are not a vessel that (can) hold the light of truth...so i'll take it back'. in kr, he says something along the lines of 'after all, you are not smart enough to hold the light of truth...i need it back'. the latter two are pretty similar, though the switch from take to need caught my eye

actually, it may just be the change in vocal delivery, but it feels like in kr and jp there's a more heavy emphasis on pv's intelligence? or it's a connotation thing since i'm more familiar with eng - generally where eng uses silly, jp and kr downright calls pv stupid and repeats things like 'how am i meant to explain this to you?' and 'do i have to explain in detail?'. very bluntly condescending, on all fronts, really hammers in the whole 'i am the master of knowledge itself' thing.

in both, when gingerbrave asks what sm did to pv upon waking up, sm says that it's been a while since they've met and that they 'spent some alone time together'. again, the gist is the same as him calling it having a little chat, though it emphasises alone and not much else. japanese in particular uses 「ふたりきりの時間」, which literally means "time for just the two of us"

after the biggest liar question is raised, where eng goes 'well well well", jp and kr ask 'are you worried?'. same taunting undertones.

when pv answers that he is the biggest liar, where eng says he 'really knows his stuff', kr and jp specify that pv can 'understand the intention of the person setting the question (sm)! amazing!' in jp, the verb 「理解しあう」 is used, which specifically means 'to come to a mutual understanding'. this is particularly mocking because sm essentially handed pv the answer by bullying him into it

in eng, the chapter title for their confrontation in the abyss is 'sweet whispers of lies'. in kr and jp, it's more along the lines of 'in the comforting embrace of lies' which. somehow sounds more intimate and is somehow even funnier. girl what comfort. that was five minutes straight of pv being subject to torment and ridicule.

it's not anything groundbreaking - and again, likely not fully accurate - it's just interesting to look at the little differences! it's also interesting to hear the differences in vocal delivery too. when the 'light of truth' is goading pv to cut the tree, in jp it sounds pretty mocking, like in eng, but the original kr sounds more... urgent? not quite coaxing, but definitely more encouraging. also, i haven't taken a look at the text, but if you haven't, i would highly reccommend listening to the taiwanese mandarin dub too because it's a lot of fun! sm's line delivery is a lot more aggressive generally, but his va is obviously having a ton of fun - he inserts a lot of additional laughs and huffs and general vocal character

What is one character that you think should get more attention in any media?

ive gotta say. ellegaard mcsm. and by extension, magnus mcsm as well. im sorry anon i know you said just one character but they are a package deal they parallel eachother so much its really just impossible to have one without the other. a lot of people really just only care about ivor and soren when ellegaard and magnus are just such interesting and complicated characters (and when people DO care about them they tend to mischaracterize them so bad ... it pains me /silly)

ellegaard and magnus are complete and total opposites, yet manage to be so alike at the same time. ellegaard is put-together and calculating. she's intelligent, and she knows it. as a person, she's extremely judgemental, and has incredibly high standards for everyone around her, herself included. she's very withdrawn emotionally, she doesn't tend to let people stick around for long (as is implied by how she goes through assistants so quickly), and her opinions of you can sour in an instant if you make one wrong move -- for example, how olivia fainting in front of her made ellegaard view her.

ellegaard is also selfish, and stubborn. she refuses to drop the command block project, even when jesse and olivia beg for her to leave and help them. however, as soon as the witherstorm attacks redstonia, she shows zero care for the people there, only focusing on getting herself, olivia, jesse, and reuben to the portal. she doesn't even think one bit about the people of redstonia that are in danger, she doesn't try to evacuate anyone, she doesn't even comment on the fact that her people are being abducted and killed. she is focused entirely on herself.

magnus, on the other hand, is impulsive, and obnoxious; but while yes, he's just as stuck up and self-absorbed as ellegaard is, talking down to the citizens of boom town and even Spitting On Their Heads (which yes they allow him to do that. that is an actual thing), he shows a lot more care for the people around him beneath his rough exterior (however he is still a huge asshole do not get me wrong he is a DIIIICCKKKK). when boom town is attacked, he's extremely distressed, and tries to go after the witherstorm at first before being dragged off by jesse. compared to how ellegaard views olivia, he also views axel in much higher regards, even if axel takes over his kingdom.

the two, of course, hate eachother. they can't stand being in the same room without getting into a fight, much to the group's dismay -- but, yet, they both are shown to care deeply about eachother. when one dies, the other is shown to be extremely affected by their death; they approach to say something, anything, as the other goes limp in soren's arms, but by the time they even step forwards, they're already gone.

their demeanor when talking about the other after their passing changes drastically; and in a way that also showcases their parallels from before. magnus drops the shit talk almost entirely, reminiscing fondly about ellegaard after she's gone, while ellegaard continues to insult magnus -- however, now in a teasing and fond context.

if the group saves petra first, the two run off with axel to distract the wtherstorms once the group all separates. somewhere along the line, reality fully sets in, especially once the two are attacked by one of the storms. and so, whoever is left alive between magnus and ellegaard runs off to fight the storm; telling axel they had to make up for the mistakes of the past.

mistakes of the past could be many things. lying about the ender dragon, letting the order fall apart, being too scared and selfish to do anything about the witherstorm the first time. how cold the two had been to eachother. how they wish they hadn't spent the short reunion, the small amount of time they had left together fighting and hating eachother.

the two complete eachother, down to their specialties; redstone and griefing. you can't create traps and explosives without some sort of redstone wiring, you can't have a machine without destruction being inevitable in the end. oddly fitting.

Baking/cooking? You are constantly getting burnt, no matter how cautious you are. Grease splatters against your arms, boiling water splashing on you, and also more avoidable mistakes like not realizing the stove was on, or not putting the oven mitt on right. You just get used to minor injuries, to the point where it doesn't really hurt all that bad.

Basketball? Oh god where do I begin! You're getting shoved, hit, knocked across the face with a basketball. One time in a game I got shoved to the ground and hit my nose, which stung a tiny bit for a short time. During halftime a teammate came up to me and told me I was bleeding. I checked my nose, but nope! It was my eyebrow! I didn't even notice that something happened to my eyebrow until she pointed it out to me. But you're constantly getting bruised and scraped and wood burnt. To the point where it doesn't even really bother you
