today i learned that we weebs are responsible for the existence of the .ass file type. #heritage
#花話#i actually learned this yesterday i've just been cracking myself up over the 'hashtag-heritage' thing ever since#.ass is a subtitle file btw!!! they're what make the really pretty ones with the elaborate typesetting and positioning n stuff#i always thought they did that shit by burning the fonts into the video via aftereffects or smth but it turns out#that while you could burn an ass file to a video for hardsubbing you can apparently just. like it's a text file you can use a text editor#and also turn them off when watching your stuff if you wish and god i was so surprised when i realized you could do that#with the pretty subtitles bc when using online streaming the soft subs were usually so ugly#anyway through a series of wacky hijinks i've ended up coding a subtitle file type converter these last few hours#and in looking up the standards for how .srt .ass and .vtt files are formatted i learned this gem#and you know what!!!! it makes soooo much sense#of course we weebs went off and made a file type for elaborate subtitle styling and positioning and timing#the intersection of art and technology in the weeb fan sphere is actually pretty cool!! there's niche ass software for so much shit#bc of the tendency of weebs to be into tech and stuff#in my spelunkinh around the old web i've also found a bunch of old specialized scanlation software from the 2000s!!! that's so cool!!!!#i just use a notes program and photoshop but they were out there in 2004 or so making photo editors that#could not only open up and edit multiple images in sequence you could page through but also load up your translation txt file#and i think also had specialized tools for cleaning text bubbles and stuff#and also obviously correcting scan issues and straightening things out AND THIS IS SO COOL!!!!#like we did that!! that's how things were done before i got into anime!!! back when i was a little kid; before i was even rlly sentient!!!!!

one year ago yesterday i was cussing out a customer for wasting my time at 7 am at self checkout because he decided that was the day he would come into the store follow me around making odd requests while im very actively Doing Stuff and then give the one cashier we had on duty a hard time because he didn't wanna pay for some raspberries. i told him to get out of the store and he was like "what are you the manager?" and i told him to get out before i called someone (never done that in my life) and i took his stuff to the produce room in the back and when i came back he was still selling out and someone managed to sell him some wretched thing
#and this is why i dont work at sprouts no more#easy job made difficult by asshole bosses and even more assholeish customers#granted i didnt like yelling and making a scene because it was kinda quiet and other departments saw that and they never took me#for the yelling type. but sometimes i yell i got a shit temper and a low patience whenever im clocked into any front of the store job#but yall when i tell you the moment i clocked in and had to do my sweeps there was an instacart shopper#trying to get me to find all their items for them. and then This fucking guy interjecting to be like oh you guys dont have this...#youre always out when i come here... and some other fuckoff customer being like wherecan i find the food at and im like.#well we are in a food aisle at a food store. and hes like nooo im talkin like the trashy junk food. and im like well we are in a sprouts#their food isnt automatically healthier btw its just more expensive. motherfucker we Have pizza rolls#first christmas eve off in two years. hashtag unemployment rules#i dont play w customers acting a fool especially if its a coworker who quite literally cannot stick up for themselves#i dont think i Said 'fuck out my store' but it definitely. something similar. to that

#keese draws#oc art#oc#ocs#she has hashtag issues#longgggg story short she and lace's parents died when they were kids and due to stuff and things the two had to basically raise themselves#they both have heaps of issues both related and unrelated to all of this but they're still very close#... well they used to be. lol. lmao.#oh also to be clear the circles on her eyes aren't like makeup or anything theyre actual metal attached to her eyes#thats not why shes emo abt them tho thats a very normal think for her family its in fact because it relates to family stuff#usually in her family on your 14th birthday you get a shape cut out on your eye disks by your parents#which she wasnt able to do because of the whole dead parent thing#and similat traditions are pretty common in families with similar traits so she does get questions abt it#so its hard for her not to think abt it a lot#lace doesn't have that specific issue due to being adopted but she does have her own collection of issues due to being adopted#she especially feels guilty for having inhereted a family heirloom and often feels like hadn't earned it or deserved it#they gave her it both as a way of letting her know that shes family and also because she was super interesting in learning magic as a kid#well to say they gave it to her is a bit of an overstatement since she was a child at the time but they let her have it most of the time#and fully planned on properly handing it down to her once she was older#but that never got to happen so lace got full time ownership of it prematurely#steward is about 3 years older than lace btw and steward was abt 12 and lace 9 when their parents died#and when I say their parents died I also mean that their whole home town was basically destroyed and a bunch of ppl died#so they didn't have anywhere to go after all of that and they just sorta wandered until reaching adulthood#anyways I am dead tired gn
