Mondo Gecko through the years. 87 cartoon, IDW comics, 2012 TMNT, and Mutant Mayhem.

IDW is my favorite, he’s got a great design, camouflage power, he started out as a Gecko not a human, and he isn’t annoying when he interacts with Mikey. And they stuck to his origins as a quasi bad guy who changed for the better thanks to Michelangelo’s good influence 🧡🐢🦎🛹🎉🎶🗽🍕

UD Mondo Gecko! Mikey’s connection to the underground world and weed dealer, except Mondo is the only one who wants to smoke his own weed.

I also realized I posted my turtle refs for UD on my other acc but I’m too tired to fix it so just pretend it’s here

Even more so since he joined the mutanimals. Skateboarding from rooftop to rooftop - there was a certain thrill and freedom to it. Still, kidnapped by the mafia is a different story especially when you consider what happened last time.

Cunningness was not exactly his style, the gecko was nothing but a master of spontaneous and reacting to the circumstances as they come.

“I hope so, dude - I mean, this is child’s play, right? They are not here and the door is already open so we can already - “

He steps forward, but that activates the laser guns outside who started blasting.

"…Oops.”

This place appears to be filled with traps.

Yeah, Xever should have expected that to happen Mondo never did manage to retain any of the handsigns the fishman tended to use. It reminded him of many times that he was left shaking his head at the reptile's antics but deep inside he was fond of Mondo.

"Its ok Mondo, haha...we're trying way too hard being sneaky about this. We forgot one of the main rules. When everything goes wrong, the best thing to do is just role with it. Adapt and survive. Who cares if they hear us? Who cares if they can see us? So long as we keep moving, don't think but feel then they can't touch us."

One could study and be cunning, but one also had to roll with the punches and change things on the fly. Things could go wrong at anytime and you always needed to have backups prepared.

"Live on the edge sometimes ya need to do that Mondo."

So with little abandon Xever went to the door and simply undid the lock with no trouble. If they were seen who cares? They would deal with it! Xever was confident within himself he could do anything if he tried. Be trusted in himself more than anyone.

"And since ya didn't catch it with my hand gestures. I promised...that no matter what you're getting out of here."

All TMNT Shredder’s Revenge Color References - Mondo Gecko

I made some posts back when the first Shredder’s Revenge dlc came out detailing the references of all the additional colors (to the best of my ability). As there’s 2 new characters out, that’s plenty of new colors to detail and I’d feel wrong not checking them out again. Feel free to give me any additional info/corrections you might know and I hope you enjoy checking this out.

Now is time for Mondo Gecko. Given the importance of his skateboard and the fact that the place I normally took screenshot in doesn’t show his skateboard for some reason, I took these pics in the first level instead.

# 1 - Normal (87)

# 2 - Super 7 Ultimate Toy - I believe this toy is basically just one of his Archie designs but all the other characters had a Toy color as their 2nd pallet which is why I think it’s specifically from the toy.

# 3 - IDW Comics

# 4 - Archie Comics - I think he primarily used a design like color 2 in the Archie comics but he seemed to have this one as well in some of them.

# 5 - 2012

# 6 - Matt McMuscles (Avatar)? - I’m pretty unsure that they’d extend their color references to an online content creator and it’s not a perfect match. Plus I don’t know if this guy skateboards

The coloration though of a blue character with lots of purple and some yellow feels by far closer than anything else I could think of. Plus McMuscles I believe is a fan of beat ‘em ups, including this game.

(I kind of want to contact him to see his input on it, but idk).

Edit: As Fabuloustrash05 said in the comments, it might be the Mondo Gecko from mutant mayhem. Stuff like the lack of orange, a different color of eyes and a shade of blue skin that seems different, I feel like that might not be right either but I’ll list it as possible since I don’t feel confident in my initial guess and lacking a mutant mayhem color seems wrong.

# 7 - Bart Simpson - I’m not sure they would want to extend their references to characters in non-TMNT media for anyone (besides Usagi) and an Orange shirt I think would fit better. It is pretty close to Bart’s general color scheme and Bart iconically does ride a skateboard. Perhaps the blue shirt is a reference to specifically Bart in the Simpson beat ‘em up.

# 8 - Matt McMuscles? - I feel like this might be referencing a real life pro skater given it’s one of the only outfits with eyes that’d fit a human character. I couldn’t find anyone it’d fit though.

While looking for pictures of Matt McMuscles’ Avatar, his actual general clothing choices reminded me of this skin. Perhaps someone on the dev team are big fans of his.

# 9 - Mirage - I don’t believe he actually appeared ever in the original black-and-white mirage comics, but he already does appear in one of the Mirage levels in survival mode (side note, he won’t appear there if you’re playing as him).

# 10 - NES - He never appeared in an NES game I believe but given the TMNT have multiple NES games and thereby skins based on it, he has one to fit in line with everyone else.

# 11 - Gameboy - Basically the same as NES

Splinter being the most embarrassing dad ever he's like that one scene in spiderverse.

Splinter, honking the horn: You gotta say I love you back.

Leo: Okay, say what you want he's dreamy.

Splinter, a bit later: Excuse me, young man?

Yuichi: Mhm?

Splinter: My blue son thinks you are very cute.

Leo: DAD!

Yuichi, dumbfounded:..Oh..really?

Leo: IGNORE EVERYTHING HE'S SAYING—TELL SEÑOR HUESO TO PUT THE MEAL ON MY TAB, BYE!

Leo just spends the rest of the day absolutely dying. Yuichi keeps thinking about that blue guy that thought he was cute.

Splinter is always sweet and nice with their friends/partners but in that embarrassing parent way that your friends will kind of tease you about.

Mikey gets a group of skater/artist friends (*cough cough Mondo Gecko my ugly son *cough cough*)

Splinter is waving to Mikey from his car: ORANGE! I'M HERE TO PICK YOU UP! RED HAD A DENTIST APPOINTMENT!

Mondo: Dude, is that your dad?

Mikey: No, I've never seen that man in my life.

Splinter: IS THAT A FRIEND? BRING HIM OVER! I WANT TO MEET MY SON'S FRIENDS!

Mikey, pushing Mondo: Keep walking. I don't know him.

Splinter: MICHELANGELO SPLINTERSON HAMATO GET TO THIS CAR!

Mondo: Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's your dad.

Mikey: You saw absolutely nothing. Right?

Mondo: Caprayzee.

So so so, I wanted to give Mikey a comfy sweater but also just..... absolutely lean in on the skater boy kind of aesthetic that Mondo Gecko has EXCEPT, NEON COLOURS THAT BLIND ANYTHING AND ANYONE-

His windbreaker jacket was fun to do! It has everyone's colours on it, blue for Leo, pink for Min, purple for Donnie, red for Raph, yellow for April, black for Casey and a silver-ish grey for Karai!

But also ICE CREAM KITTY-

Mystic Forest Update

Read Chapter 46: Mondo Not Cool here!

Mikey looked around the bedroom. Everything had a punk rock aesthetic, its walls lined with posters of bands, professional skateboarders, and some custom painted skateboards that were hung up. The room was messy, with magazines and clothes piled all over the floor. 

Jason walked over to a reptile enclosure and pulled out a small madagascar gecko from the tank, hand feeding it a worm.

“Hey buddy, you miss me?” He asked the gecko, scratching under his chin. “Yeah, I look a little different don’t I?” He was relieved Lars still recognized him in this form.. “We’re twinning now, bud! So epic!”

“OMG you got a bean bag chair too!” Mikey said as he flopped onto the bag. “Yours is way comfier.”

Jason stripped the torn up uniform off of him and pulled out some of his clothes from the dresser, putting on a worn tee with the graphic of a lizard skeleton with the words ‘Livin it Up’ on it. He grabbed a pair of old skater pants covered in patches and started cutting a hole in the back with scissors. 

“Woah, what are you doing?” Mikey asked, sitting up.

“Cutting a tail hole,” Jason said as he put them on and his gecko tail slumped out through the back. “Hmm… Should I put a pair of fingerless gloves on my hands AND feet?” He wiggled his long lizard toes.

“That’s true fashion,” Mikey said solemnly.

Here’s a question about your TMNT ship!! Where did the inspiration for Zoey come from? Did you have other ideas for a possible ship for Mikey? And what’s your favorite thing about the characters?

Zan (or Zandii) has always been my character for putting in different fandom universes (along with Kim) - to indulge and explore more of the universe

Zandii has evolved and changed over the years, adapting and changing to fit the universe she’s in

But saying that - her home is now TMNT - I can’t see her really any other way now 💕

I can’t really remember her design inspiration- I suppose a lot of it comes with the music I associate with her inspires her look, along with aesthetics and what I think Mikey would enjoy

As for other Mikey ships

I see Mikey being bi so him having a similar skater type boyfriend would be fun and cute too 💕

I’m not too familiar with Mondo Gecko, but from what I know and see, I see it as a good ship for Mikey too 💕🧡

I guess my favourite thing about the (tmnt) characters as a whole is how you can adapt and interpret them any way you want - there’s the family dynamic which is always good too

Like all fandoms is a good way to explore and cope with your own thoughts and feelings, and play with dynamics you can indulge with 💕

That’s what I do at least - there’s nothing wrong with indulging and using fandom - canon or not - to help you cope and feel 💕

Recently Viewed - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem

When I was but a lad, I owned a huge collection of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles action figures. I’d blow my allowance on every plastic character that I could get my tiny, nail-bitten fingers on: Shredder, Krang, Baxter Stockman, Casey Jones—and, of course, multiple variations of the heroes in a half shell themselves, including cowboy Raphael, astronaut Leonardo, samurai Donatello, and pizza-launching Michelangelo. My personal favorite, though, was Mondo Gecko, an anthropomorphic lizard with the laid-back attitude of a skater dude. It was a genuine delight, then, to see him finally make his big screen debut in Jeff Rowe’s (redundantly titled) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem—alongside fellow veterans of the bargain bin Leatherhead, Wingnut, and Ray Fillet.

If what I’ve written so far makes the movie sound a bit like a feature-length toy commercial… well, that’s entirely by design. This is, after all, a franchise built on licensing and merchandising (it’s certainly come a long way from its humble roots as a black-and-white indie comic); it is therefore only appropriate that the story of its latest adaptation should resemble a child’s game of make-believe. Every scene is gleefully manic, energetic, and imaginative. An early montage, for example, utilizes precisely timed match cuts to condense several different brawls into a single seamless, continuous tracking shot that highlights the development of the turtles’ skills in battle. A later set piece revolves around Master Splinter making short work of approximately a dozen armed goons using a series of increasingly improbable improvised weapons (electrical cables, glass canisters, a spinny chair)—an obvious homage to the slapstick-inspired approach to cinematic martial arts pioneered by Jackie Chan (who happens to provide the kung fu fighting rodent’s vocal performance).

This abundance of creativity is not limited to the structure of the plot, either; it bleeds into the film’s quirky visual style. Every aspect of the animation—from the intentionally rough, sketchy line work to the deliberately unnatural flatness of the smoke, dust, and explosion effects—oozes personality, evoking the hand-crafted quality of the original source material.

“Nostalgia” has recently become something of a dirty word in the entertainment industry, with many critics dismissively using the term to denote a lack of “real” narrative substance. In this case, however, the nostalgic tone is substantial; Mutant Mayhem reacquaints viewers with the joyful simplicity of youth, thus immersing the audience in the perspective of the immature protagonists.

And what a wonderfully liberating experience it is to feel like a kid again!
