misc. headcanons & things i would like to keep stored here:

eiko uses garland like a christmas tree and even put presents under him one time. she's also drawn on his face. sarah thinks it's funny seeing garland wrapped up in actual garland and tinsel and ornaments hanging from the horns on his helmet.

sarah and eiko play music together and sarah teaches her how to play the lute.

eiko is the biggest supporter of redhime (sarah/garland) like she is with w.ol/sarah in woff. HOWEVER once she finds out garland kidnapped sarah, she is READY to throw those hands and sarah finds charming (and is a tad bit afraid of eiko) that a young girl like eiko is so willing to protect her. like this quote from labyrinth is so eiko about the entire situation. "well, what are we waiting for? let's get that rat who calls himself [garland]!" eiko would totally try to throw hands with garland too like this is totally her.

eiko would also be a better matchmaker for sarah than her parents if she has anything to say about it. 💀 sarah would probably have to stop her from yelling at her parents since they're royalty and eiko isn't, but she appreciates the thought all the same since she wants to marry whom she chooses and marry for love too even though she knows it will probably come down to p.olitics and s.ocial statuses.

sarah also continues her escapades into town in disguise in her commoner outfit with eiko when they have girl's days, and sarah is appreciative of it.

also building on this i feel like eiko would find a way to be friends with sarah's younger sister in ff1 and mia in sop. i could see them talking about how sarah's sister sees the warriors of light as brothers/family after they rescue her big sister and stuff like that. mAYBE shenanigans with her, eiko, and vivi. 😭🥺

sarah also enjoys eiko's company because she views her as a younger sister and eiko always helps to make things so lively in the castle and in cornelia.

since ff.9 has easter eggs and references to older ffs, through the collective n.omura-like brainstorming between me and jenny (@.ragingfists), we came to the conclusion that g.arnet and e.iko's relationship could/is potentially like sarah's with her younger sister. our n.omura-like reasoning is because g.arnet's real name is sarah, her mother is jayne (like sarah's mom) and we both feel that g.arnet and e.iko view each other like sisters. (it's been a while since ive played 9 all the way through so i'm unsure if this is actually confirmed about them in either 9 or dffoo.) other reasonings were because of w.off with castle cornelia being a summon (ragnarok (i think the particular summon is a ff.6 reference) like how alexandria castle in ff.9 is also a summon (alexander). e.iko also helps both sarah and g.arnet with awakening both summons.

     Before his passing, she remembers with clarity how Grandpa told her to live life to the fullest — she should be thriving with energy and dreams and hopes like any other six year old girl. She sometimes forgets her status as a six year old with how she’s already living on her own with a full-time job of watching the bridge and Alexander, and honestly it goes without saying that Eiko’s anything but a normal six year old girl by now. Still, six is her age — and she likes the idea of having friends. Having Moogles and mirages for friends are guaranteed to be fun, but she thinks it’d be more fun to have a friend who’s, y’know, people. People who, y’know, didn’t disappear after saving Grymoire from impending doom and is still missing to this day. ( Hauyn and Tama don’t have any updates either… ) Eiko raises a finger, then offers, ❛  How about after we finish shopping then? Fenrir’s a little lazy during noon time, so no doubt he’s wandering this time of day.  ❜ She can already tell Fenrir would love Sarah. That big ol’ furry softie. 

     Sarah probably doesn’t know, but EIko’s honestly trying to do semi-good job of hiding her snickers right now. Yeah right, Sarah — those glances at him can’t possibly mean anything at all. Bah! She inwardly shakes her head, though she supposes it’s quite endearing. Princess Sarah’s heart, captured by a dashing and handsome member of her guards, one who is still currently on duty by keeping an eye on her. Gee, it makes her feel a tiny bit jealous because when will Eiko ever find someone as handsome and loyal as the Fella with Horns?! Fate is cruel, and it shows! She fakes a cough, amused. ❛  Alright, I’ll drop it since it’s supposed to be a girls day today — but mark my words, this discussion isn’t over yet!  ❜ A girls day entails plenty of bonding activities like shopping and, of course, boys talk. Not even the princess can go against sacred traditions like these!

     Eiko gives a pleasant nod, smiling appreciatively for the kindness. ❛  It’s okay if there’s not much to do around here. The whole point of having friends over is that we have fun, after all!  ❜ And really, fun is something she’s short on. So what if Cornelia doesn’t have talking magic wells? It was pretty fun uncovering that mystery anyway. ❛  Thank you, Sarah. I can’t remember the last time I stepped away from Alexander just to visit a town, so I appreciate that you’re taking the time to accommodate me. I wish I could make it up to you somehow…  ❜ She can’t offer to introduce her friend to the bridge since, well… There’s nothing else to do there than to chat with Alexander, and only EIko can actually ‘talk’ with him.

"Oh, I'd like that very much!" She responds after hearing Eiko's offer. Like earlier in their visit, the only mirages that Sarah had any contact with in the vicinity of the kingdom's walls were Moogles and Chocobos. Of course that didn't count the Cactuar Conductor who had a strange relationship with the twins - specifically Reynn. It almost reminded her of a relationship between a father and daughter. 

Meeting a large mirage like Fenrir was.. Well, it was sure to be something else. The only other large mirage she could think of in close proximity was Ragnarok -  if you didn't count Ifrit, Shiva, and Ramuh, of course. "Should I bring him a present as well? I'm not really too sure what I could bring. Perhaps you could share some of his likings with me?"

Sneaking one last glance towards a certain someone, she turns back to her friend, eyes wide. "D-discussion? Whatever do you mean?" There was absolutely nothing going on between the two of them - nothing at all. She didn't understand why Eiko was so adamant about it though. Her thoughts drift to the twins and she remembers how even Reynn tried to... what was that saying some of the townsfolk were keen on using? Oh yes. Even Reynn tried to 'play it cool' around her when it came to him. She didn't understand why. Or rather she had a teeny, tiny small inkling but it wasn't something she was even sure of herself - at least not yet. 

She gives Eiko a smile upon hearing Eiko's heartful thanks for a day around the kingdom. Truthfully, she wished there was more that she could show her friend in town. Short of the plains and the caves, there wasn't much else to see. Though she had heard word from Hauyn and Tama about a mysterious portal in the plains. They'd said something about a lost knight or some such thing. Could it be-? but she just shakes her head dismissing the thought. 

"You are most welcome, Eiko. Though I am regretful there isn't more for us to do, I am glad that you are enjoying your time in Cornelia. And do not worry about any such thing. Getting to meet Fenrir and spending time with you today is all that I could ask for."
