On the list of 'unnerving things Cosima just Does sometimes' I do think that occasionally she does a sort of slow eye blink at people. It is not like a cat, it is like a lizard where occasionally the two eyes are just a little out of sync. It's usually when she's thinking especially hard in a given social situation.

The Figarland Family Tree

Cosima is the oldest daughter born to Saint Sirius Figarland, his wife Aquila Figarland, and a younger brother named Corvus Figarland. Their details will be placed under a read more.

Sirius Figarland was the younger brother to Garling and was very much inferior to his brother in every way possible. No matter how hard he tried he would never be able to live up to his older brother. That was why he stayed hidden in his shadow while his brother was named the heir and eventually the head of the family. Below is what Sirius looked like when he was younger he had blue eyes with the striking red hair of the Figarland family. He had pleasure slaves and was very cruel going through so many a week. He was not a faithful man to his wife, however, he never married another person nor took another being in a concubine regarding his wife. They had a weird relationship where they did not like sleeping together but would do so to produce heirs. Sirius did not have any children out of wedlock and only had two children. A daughter and son, even though he would have stopped at one, but he wanted a son no matter how many times it would take. Once his son was born, he adored the child and spoiled him rotten overlooking his daughter as she was useless in his eyes due to her being a female. He was going to have his son inherit everything, which Cosima was going to allow to happen.

Sirius fc younger is Cesare De Como.

After his son was executed, Sirius was devastated as he thought he lost everything meaningful to him. So Cosima stepped in the take over handling all the documentation and managing all his property while he was bedridden for years. Cosima was slowly poisoning her father for four years to make it look like he died from natural causes. However, her uncle was able to figure out that her father died from being poisoned even though she set it up for a slave to take the fall. Cosima held no love for her father and brother as they set her aside as she slowly made her own path. Her mother encouraged her from a young age to be the best of the best. To be the perfect goddess and not to allow any other divine being to hold her back. Cosima deserved to be the heir to the Figarland family, but she must never show any flaws or weaknesses. Her father and brother were not worthy of the Figarland name, so Cosima took care of them.

Aquila Figarland (fc:Rosalyn Vogart)

Aquila was a part of the Manmayer Family before she married into the Figarland family. She took place in the Native Hunting Competition at God's Valley five years before she got married to Sirius. She was a very strong woman who enjoyed competition, but Sirius was not able to handle her strong personality so their marriage was not one of love. She always compared him to Garling and considered him to be inferior and weak for a Figarland. She had brown hair and purple eyes which her daughter inherited from her while she got the color red from her father. Cosima takes after her mother's personality a lot, however, she is not as unruly as her mother was. Her mother had plenty of lovers, but never had children expected with her husband. Unfortunately, she died in labor with her 2nd child Corvus when Cosima was only 4 years old.

Corvus Figarland (fc: Cale Henituse)

Corvus was the spitting image of his father and took after him a lot as well as he was spoiled from a young age. His father wanted a son who he loved rotten, so Corvus got away with anything as he spent money on slaves, alcohol, drugs, and various other stuff. He did not bother learning how to manage any of his inheritance as he left that to his sister thinking it was below him. Plus he was a very lustful and weak coward. That was why he was unfit for the Figarland name. Cosima had tried to come to an agreement with her brother as she wanted to inherit everything from their father and even their uncle, but he stated she was just going to be sold off to be a breeding sow for another Celestial Family. Cosima decided he would be better off gone then, so his sister set him up. Two years before the canon storyline (4 years after the time skip), Cosima set up Corvus making it look like he had fallen in love with a female slave. She took a slave from another Celestial Dragon family and set it up to look like her brother stole the slave from them to run away together. Everything worked to her plan as her brother was only 25 years old when he was executed by their uncle. If he stayed alive he would have been 29 years old.

Bellamy is surprisingly calm about the entire thing. It's not like you're the first person to try dumping him; he's still dealing with those mediocre cash-grab articles about his divorce and the whole custody split. Sure, there's a touch of seething rage behind that empty. blank mask he calls a face, but he's not risking his career for you. Go ahead, abandon him. He'll make sure the press knows all about how heartless you were, and he'll have someone new on his arm within the same month.

Really? You're really going to try and dump the one and only Romilly Alarie!? Are you okay, mentally? Do you even know what a dumbass you're being? Don't you know what happened to her ex-husband? A few rumors, an accusation or two, and oops! His reputation's in shambles!! Do you want that? She's already writing up a loooong post to go up on her various social medias all about how she's escaped another awful relationship. Will it be worth it?

Alouette breaks down right then and there. While her siblings would be screaming or hitting or manipulating, Alouette just... breaks. She knew she wasn't good enough, she knew you'd see that eventually, she needs you more than she needs air, don't you know how awful her family are? She's doing you a favor by making you stay with her, totally selfless! You're a perfect happy couple, so perfect and sweet and in love and totally not held together by bubblegum and the threat of another nervous breakdown.

Miele's reaction can go one of two ways. He may laugh at you, ohhh my God! Are you really that pathetic? You can't handle a fucking relationship you sad little loser? Or, alternatively, he'll burst into tears, drop to his knees, cling to your leg like a petulant child and desperately beg and plead for you to forgive whatever grievous sin he committed. He knows he's dumb and bad and awful! He thought you saw him differently, that you saw the real him... Miele must have thought wrong...

I looked at their name origins and chose something from there for their last names basically!

Arven is named after mints and peppers and herbs mostly, since he's related to food and the herba mystica, so his last name is Metha (which is the scientific name for mint)

Nemona is .. for some reason named after the flower family Nemophilia, which all their common names relate the phrase "baby blue eyes"?When her.. Eyes aren't even blue... But Mencía is also a grape variety native to Spain and Portugal

Penny's last name is her German name, Cosima, which is from the scientific name for tree peony (relating to her being the assumed daughter of Peony) and also how it's similar to Cassiopeia (sounding like cosmic and containing similar letters)

Their ages are a little older than what most people would expect (from what I've seen there's a large variety of ages people headcanon them all as, which is totally fine! I can see that for sure), but I wanted them to be similar in age to Cheren since he's going to more or less be the main focus of this AU

They're all disabled in some way (sorry not sorry) because it just really makes sense to me and there's never too much disability rep :) The other two are pretty self-explanatory I think, but the idea from Nemona's prosthetic comes from when I initially played through the game; I thought her arm brace (pictured below) was a prosthetic arm she used and was sadly disappointed..

𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞. as there's little confirmed canon information on stolas' mother, whomever she may be, this is all purely headcanon. depending on how well I jive, I may adapt to be more canon-compliant as canon is revealed.

Cosima Octavia Orias was born the eldest daughter to her father, Marquis Orias of the Ars Goetia, and her mother, Wilhemine Cosima Orias.

As eldest daughter, and eldest child overall, Cosima was always expected to elevate the family status. Though intelligent and talented, she was also in poor health, often suffering debilitating migraines.

With much of her youth spent bedbound, she studied hard in the absence of all entertainment. She became an accomplished diviner and passionate scholar; though, with little social interaction came a lack of interest in society.

She became known as an eccentric and recluse among demons of status - a damning title, whether or not it was true or deserved. her parents sought to marry her off quickly, and to the highest bidder.

After a lengthy courting period, she was set to be engaged to one of the Dukes of the Ars Goetia ( who later, with a different wife, bore Stella and Andrealphus). Paimon himself was the one who broke their engagement, deciding to take Cosima as one of his wives instead.

Cosima, unsure and unadvised, took a long time to warm up to Paimon. Eventually, after he proved to her his loyalty, she bore him a son - Stolas.

Due to her declining health and archaic customs, Stolas was quickly whisked away from her - an act she never quite forgave Paimon for, tradition or otherwise.

i actually do wanna ask you about cosima clayborne/patchwork and the big 3 sooooooooo bad!! what can you share 👀

okay, so at this point in time, i don’t think the big 3 know each other’s secret identities. i think they know each other as heroes and as civilians, but have not connected the dots yet. (well maybe bruce has). i'm breaking this into three parts.

first cos + bruce aka patchwork + batman

cosima and bruce meet at an art show that cos’ bosses are attending. bruce has been forced to attend by alfred because bruce’s been locked up in his mansion too long. cosima’s bosses are mingling while cos stroll the show, looking at art pieces. she and bruce end up looking at the same piece but don’t talk to each other until one of cos’ bosses who knows bruce cuts in. when he eventually leaves, cos and bruce get to talking - well bruce talks, cos writes because bruce doesn’t know sign language (yet). later in the night, cosima accidentally runs into someone because she was trying to lip-read while they walked and gets champagne on her dress. bruce offers her his handkerchief to help her soak it up. he doesn’t end up getting it back from her and she shows up at his mansion a few days later to return it. she ends up meeting alfred instead and he invites her inside to wait (because bruce needs friends and alfred knows it). i also hc that alfred knows sign language. all three eventually get closer and bruce quickly learns sign and cos is very impressed.

batman and patchwork are only minorly antagonistic with each other. she’s not committing totally villainous actions like joker or riddler, but she is constantly breaking into museums and causing trouble for the gcpd. she also works with catwoman a lot (because cos needs to pay her many many bills). he’s very impressed by her suit’s fabric because of its cloaking capabilities, but just like how he can’t sway her to the ‘heroic’ side, he can’t convince her to work with lucius fox despite the money offered. she is also, very much, flirting with him all the time under the assumption he doesn't know sign or that she's deaf; he eventually shows that he does understand her but it's like a while after she's been sign-flirting with him.

now cos + clark / patch + superman

clark gets sent to gotham for a story with cosima’s company but her bosses don’t want to do the interview/‘are too busy’ and pawn it off on cosima who knows the company really well. it’s a bit of a slow process because clark doesn’t know sign language but cosima is used to it by this point and has an ipad she uses at work to ‘speak’. clark insists that by their next interview, he’ll know sign. he’s a bit slower than bruce, but he does figure it out between gotham visits. he really puts her name on the map with the interview and asks to see her own work when he’s looking at the company’s pieces. he knows he can’t put it in with the interview, but he compliments her work anyway. he’s not often in gotham, but he does always go and visit her when he is.

like clark, superman isn’t often in gotham, he knows it’s batman’s terf. when he is in gotham, he does sometimes offer a helping hand (even tho batman doesn't want it). he runs into patchwork once. it’s an awkward ‘fight’ since her suit’s vibration sensors can’t notice him sneaking up on her since he’s flying and also she can’t hear him speaking but he’s not catching onto that. she makes her escape before he can get her taken in.

finally the ladies. cos + diana / patch + wonder woman

diana heads to gotham to appraise some art pieces they’d recently gotten in at the museum and she meets cos there, because even when cos isn’t breaking into the museum as patch, she does like visiting it. they get to talking about art in the greek section of the gotham museum and diana is the only one of the big 3 that actually knows and is fluent in sign prior to meeting cos. i like to headcanon that she kept up with the development of sign language over the years, but sometimes accidentally uses signs specific to themyscira and sometimes cos points it out and diana says it’s an ‘old greek dialect’ but cos can see it’s something deeper than that but also doesn't push the subjects. anyway, they’re coffee and art friends. the hottest of besties.

wonder woman actually catches patch in the act of a crime but let’s her get away with it because patchwork is stealing back a piece of native art that she plans to return to it’s rightful owners. diana knows the pain of seeing stolen heritage up in a museum and just lets her go. besides, gotham is batman’s terf and he obviously isn’t dealing with her so if wonder woman’s going to kick anybody’s ass in gotham it’s going to be one of those bastards actually hurting people.

also i do think it’d be funny if they were all dating each other.

sure orphan black’s storytelling was subversive in so so many ways, but they had the PERFECT platform to more fully explore the whole “nature vs nurture” argument in terms of romantic relationships and what draws us together and creates bonds between us as humans and im JUST SAYING that they could (and should!!!) have explored that dynamic between sarah and cosima more in that regard, because it would have been so easy to give sarah (at the very least) an arc where she realized that she was actually in love with cosima and, since she is our main protagonist, who we as the audience have followed and the fact that we see most of the story and most of the mystery unfold as told through HER eyes and her perspective, it would have been easy to emotionally invest in that sort of character arc and sympathize with as she wrestles with it. like i can’t stress enough how interesting and thought-provoking going down that route could have been for the show. missed opportunity imo

Cosima absolutely does not. Generally speaking, as a crow, she associates begging with a mark begging her to let them live. That mindset is not conducive to staying in the mood, so to speak. Generally, Cos is about as direct in sex as she is in anything she does and it would take a partner that she deeply trusts to linger in such a vulnerable state.

How loose is their use of the phrase ‘I love you’? (For Cosima)

Cosima doesn’t understand what love is. So she hardly uses the phrase unless it’s for manipulation. Some slaves she breaks them down then will build them up with praises and use whatever words that seem to make them loyal. When she does use the term when it comes to a person or an ‘object’ if she does use that phrase, I love you then it means she’s talking about herself. She sees them as an extension of herself and she loves herself so that includes them until they get on her bad side. Due to her god complex if she says these words to you she truly does not mean them. She feels entitled to love and worship as it’s the purpose of lesser beings to devote themselves to divine beings such as herself.

Plus her parents never used those words either, they married out of duty and had kids for that purpose. After her brother was born and her father received his ‘heir’ then he stopped being involved with their mother. Her parents had many pleasure slaves they used as they pleased, but they never had any other kids outside of each other as only divine beings should repopulate with each other to keep their bloodline pure. Without knowing what love was, she was able to kill her brother so she inherited everything from her father as she slowly poisoned him for years until he finally died.

i’ve been thinking a lot about how yes coshayphine is great as an amalgamation, but they have to share interests and hobbies that maybe not all of them share.  like if shayphine has a date night they’ll wanna do something that cosima doesn’t like like they do etc.  like when you’re a kid and your sibling is at a sleepover so your parents let you pick what’s for dinner.  (was that just me?  bc my brother got invited to way more sleepovers than me??  anYWayY)

shayphine: - definitely trying new foods.  like foodie kind of stuff.  like weird new concept restaurants and popups.  and cooking.  a new recipe is definitely a thing they do together.  hello holding up a spoon for the other to taste test???  also wine pairing.  trying to one up each other with wackier and wackier wines to pair with their recipes.

- jogging?  swimming?  exercise stuff.  cosima does it, but like. as a necessity. shay and delphine enjoy it and seek it out.  they jog with the dog every day, who loves it.  (i have new dog headcanons peep those on a different post.)  at first delphine can only do a little and shay is a pseudo trainer, but then delphine’s adolescence spent playing soccer and running track kick in and shay gets kind of competitive.  do they run charity 5ks?  maybe that is something i’ll think about.  (also just. they like seeing each other in gym clothes)

shaysima: - carly rae jepsen music.  cosima scream sings it.  cut to the feeling cured shay’s depression (seriously just like.  stop what you’re doing for 3 minutes and 25 seconds, put on your best headphones, turn it up a little louder than is advisable, and listen.)  i feel like shaysima’s first date after canon in s5 fix it is a crj concert.  i think i’m gonna make it happen.  shay is not a fan of fireworks or thunder so on hot summer nights when she can’t get to sleep before the racket, cosima will blast some crj and crj adjacent music and dance around like an idiot to distract shay.

- philosophy.  like they discuss things.  cosima’s read enough bc of school and shay reads poetry and more modern stuff.  they like to talk big brain humanity stuff sometimes.  like science and ethics and holistic healing stuff.  cosima has a lot of feelings having been part of a science experiment (like the stuff that came out of dyad and leda had huge impacts that could save lives, but she suffered as a subject and she has conflicting feelings about that.)  in her practice, shay views people as wholes from their work life to their deepest innermost lives.  lots of economic philosophies don’t and she’s Heated.

cophine: - animals.  delphine’s entire social media presence is just pictures of her animals and cute animal videos she finds on her feed.  cosima also loves animals and like knows wayy too much about them bc of her studies in evolution.  she and delphine geek out about behaviors and traits and stuff.  training their dog they geek out about how it’s even possible.  (i used to know so much gonna study some more evolutionary biology where tf are my notes?)  also cosima has a very chaotic tik tok and when delphine is stressed she’ll pull delphine to her chest and just search dogs on there and let her watch.  half of her favorited videos are to show delphine later.

-  video games.  cosima has been playing hardcore since her first gameboy and her love has grown with the medium.  delphine, being trans and perceived as a teenage boy in the 90′s, was the target audience.  she had so much pokemon merch as a kid.  she had some early nintendo stuff, then school happened and she got swamped and is now getting back into games.  cosima lets her play on her consoles at first then she gets into it a lot more than anticipated so they both have their own switches and possibly ps4s (i have no idea what games except minecraft and pokemon but that’s a pretty good start.  probably some star wars for delphine and way more of the newer stuff like tlou and red dead redemption.  movie ish games with heavy story for cosima.  delphine loves portal bc puzzles cosima hates it bc where is the LORE)

cosima betrays jowan.     cosima is canon divergent, by the beginning of origins, she’s been an enchanter specializing in the instruction of primal spells for ten years, having gone through the harrowing at sixteen, though that’s the only change from canon. she went through the harrowing in record time, etc. she was irving’s personal pupil, and was being groomed to someday be first enchanter of the circle, showing extreme arcane prowess that hasn’t been seen in many years. this is a very political position. publicly, in order to grant favor, she’s allied with the aequitarians, as that is the most popular fraternity, though she shares the libertarian sentiments, if lingering a bit on the conservative side of that spectrum. this is because she likes her position in the circle. she doesn’t seek an entire dissolve of the circles, she favors the thought of them becoming colleges, schools rather than prisons. because, without the templars, she loved the circle, the feeling of family and the constant company of other mages. it was the watch of their captors that made it uncomfortable.

viewing irving as a father, when jowan tells her that lily saw the rite of tranquility on irving’s desk,  she went to him and begged him not to go through with it, but was swayed to irving’s side by his logic. confused and conflicted by her emotions and unsure of what to do, she tells irving of lily and jowan’s plan and folows through with irving’s plan instead. if jowan was going to be punished anyway, then lily should be punished, too. cosima’s loyalty belonged to the circle more than it belonged to jowan. this sight of the bigger picture and sacrificing her feelings in exchange of the bigger picture aids her a lot during the blight. but she truly believed with all her heart that letting jowan go, if he was truly a maleficar, would injure the entire circle. and so she turned him in. later, she wouldn’t exactly say she regrets her actions, but she does blame herself for pushing jowan to such desperation as turning to loghain and turning assassin, and lets him escape from the redcliffe dungeons.
