Alright bet, I'll answer it for Racer, Albert, and as a treat I'm adding Davey even though I am still debating if he's a kin. (To be specific in this, I'm gonna be talking about UK!Racer, Livesies!Albert, and a personal Modern AU!Davey)

2 - Does your character indulge often in the things they like?

Race: Oh yeah, all the time. He's a chronic gambler (much to the disdain of some of the newsies) we can't forget that! He's got hella good luck with it somehow, so he continues to do it. And, thanks to said good luck, he's able to go out and do some other things he enjoys outside of work! So yes, he does indulge himself quite often :D

Albert: Not really. He's not solid on what he even likes, it's not something he's ever really considered what it even is he likes, so he has no idea what to indulge in. His day is really just wake up -> sell papes -> eat -> sleep ; repeat. If he found something he enjoyed, though, he probably would indulge himself occasionally if he had the money!

Davey: Kinda often? He doesn't always have the time to go out and spend time with his friends, but he does when he can. Because fuck, man, who doesn't enjoy eating out at restaurants and going to movies with good friends??? He'd do it more often if he could, but work takes up a lot of time.

3 - What makes your character's skin crawl?

Race: It was the nuns that constantly came around that got on his nerves. He often tried to avoid interacting with them but they usually addressed him in the mornings when the younger newsies rushed to get their breakfast. They usually pestered him about his clothes ("Oh you look so lovely today! Where'd you get the new vest!", "What a lovely look on you!" etc etc) and it always came across as passive aggressive. Whether they meant it or not, it always just felt like they were poking at him for having the money to dress well but not get away from selling papers.

Albert: People snoring. He absolutely fucking DESPISES hearing people snore and loses a bit of his life during the winter in the lodging house, because he can't sleep outside to avoid it.

Davey: The complete ignorance of his parents. His mother forcing him and Jack to take over the care of his younger brother mildly ticked him off. He loves his brother! But the fact his parents just gave up on Les... He had a rocky relationship with his parents since he left for college.

8 - Is there something your character deeply regrets from their past?

Race: Running away from home, and then running away from Brooklyn. He often wonders how his parents are doing but he never had the will to go back and see them again. (He's terrified of the idea of going home and them not being there, or them not recognizing him).

Albert: Not in particular!

Davey: A lot. There's a lot he regrets he refuses to go into detail about. It's why his relationship with his parents is so rocky and why he practically hovers over Les once his brother is in his care.

14 - Who would your character never betray?

Race: Any of the newsies. Nothing in him could ever get him to turn on his friends and family. He'd go down fighting tooth and nail for them

Albert: Race and Finch.

Davey: Sarah. He could never turn his back on Sarah, not after everything she's done for him. He owes her the world.

15 - Who does your character look up to and who do they despise?

Race: He doesn't look up to anyone around him in particular. He kinda emulates Jack to a degree, but he's not Race's role model. If anything... he looks up to the memory of his mother. The way she cared for him and held him when he was sad or sick. Her warm smiles her gentle hugs... he held those memories dear and tried to bring those soft moments and comforting reminders of being cared for to the younger newsies who came to the lodge. He despises Spot. As much as he misses being in Brooklyn, he hates her. He refuses to ever tell anyone what happened, often changing the subject to something fun to distract whoever was asking.

Albert: Jack and his oldest brother. He aspires to be like both of them when it comes to leadership and confidence. He absolutely despises the Delanceys. If he could just straight up beat the everliving shit out of them he would. It is a VISCERAL hatred and he is often held back from going off by other newsies. So, instead, he just tries to explode them with his mind 99% of the time.

Davey: He doesn't really look up to anyone either, but he also isn't one to hate. He experiences quite strong emotions but not enough to feel so strongly about anyone.

ESCAPISM NEWSIES AU ESCAPISM NEWSIES AU (comic)(rambles + explanation under cut)

(for anyone who doesn't know, Newsies is a musical set in 1899 about a strike from the newsies (people who deliver news papers) of New York against the owner of the newspaper, Pulitzer. Jack Kelly is the leader of the newsies, Crutchie is his best friend, Davey is his second-in-command, Les is Davey's little brother whose there for comedic relief, and Katherine is a reporter following the newsies' story.)

OKAY SO as I've mentioned before I'm currently in a production of Newsies and every night I hear a couple scenes of Jack and Katherine and think "this is so aster x beatrice core." So I'm uh making a little au...

Personality-wise Beatrice would best fit Jack and Aster would best fit Katherine, but for the roles in the story it's reversed imo. Katherine is revealed to be the daughter of the big bad pulitzer so in this au id imagine the reveal would be that she's a close associate/basically sister of Charles, who is filling pulitzer's role(pulitzer is VERY DIFFERENT personality wise from him but it doesn't matter all that much so I'll make Charles relatively in-character). And Jack's role is the main character who always dreamed of leaving this town and escaping, just like aster !! Thing is, a lot of the plot relies on Jack's personality so Aster will be pretty out of character, as you can see with her being a shameless flirt, soemthing she DEFINITELY ISNT with strangers, in the comic.

AAAAND Grace is one of the newsies because she's magic like aster, and I'd always kinda wondered how the two would get along if Grace wasn't dead,, so this will be an opportunity to see that!! She'll fill the role of Crutchie I think, and I have plans for Martha to fill the role of Davey (and she has a little brother, Adam, who can be Les^^)

Heard you were upset and was wondering [since I haven't seen it] if you could explain the plot of newsies to me [as a distraction type thing]. Go into a little or as much detail as you'd like <3

Okok okkkokokkokk. Ok so I'm literally just gonna explain the whole thing because I can't summarize at all

OK SO we start w the prologue which is literally just Jack and Crutchie being cute qpps that's LICHERALLY it. Jack's just like "oh ya we should run away to Santa Fe together and we can be gay cowboys doesn't that sound great! B]" THAT IS LITERALLY THE ENTIRE SONG and it's really sweet. But then OOPS mornin bell goes off and they haveta Sell Papers cause That's What Newsies Do !

Insert song and dance number (only thing I want to mention about this is in the background Jack is tying Crutchie's shoe n when he's done he kisses it??? And Crutchie's just "????????" AND I THINK IT'S REALLY FUNNY SKDGSKHFKSGFJDGD . Also Jack flirts with some pretty girl, she'll come back later trust me

Anyway they're going to buy their papers for the day and this new kid shows up (TWO actually)! That's Davey n his lil brother Les ! Jack decides him and Davey should be selling partners because Davey has no clue what he's doing and Jack is. Well. The Famous Jack Kelly and If You Learn From Him, You Learn From The Best ! So yeah Jack and Davey become selling partners!

End of the selling day and they're splitting up the money and stuff and BDHSHFBDBFDHFB then someone's chasing Jack down so AAA they run away to the theater ! Davey is so confused and he's just like "WHO THE FUCK WAS THAT" and Jack explains that the guy chasing him was Snyder and he runs an abusive prison for children so that's. 😶 He also comes back later unfortunately. Anyway then Medda (Jack's friend/mother figure and owner of the theater) comes to talk to them and then sings a song about how cool and pretty and awesome she is. As she should.

And then Jack sees that pretty girl in a lil box at the top and he's just like 👀👀👀 and goes to talk to her ! Turns out she's writing an article about the show and Jack finds her very charming ! He draws a picture of her and leaves it there and Katherine is just o///o over it ykyk.

MEANWHILE ON THE SIDE WHILE ALL THIS IS HAPPENING Pulitzer (the guy who runs The World, the newspaper company the newsies work for) is pissed they're not making enough money and sings some song with way too many ridiculous metaphors . Anyway they decide to raise the price of papers and Hannah is a gem as always (she's VERY MUCH a side character but she's really funny and sassy I love her)

NEXT DAY NEXT DAY the boys go to buy their papers to sell for the day ! And so they read the headlines and NEW NEWSIE PRICE??? 60 CENTS PER HUNDRED??? (My favorite comments being the "I'll be sleepin on the street !" ".. you already sleep on the street" "in a worse neighborhood") And they are PISSED. And so when Jack shows up everyone's like "JACK ARE YOU SEEING THIS SHIT?" and he's like "lol no they're joking cmon let's just get our papers". They Were Not Joking.

So Jack's like "WE'LL JUST. GET OUR PAPERS SOMEWHERE ELSE >:(" but noo prices are up everywhere! So they group up to try and work this out . Davey jokingly suggests a union and Jack's like "HELL YEAH REVOLUTION LET'S START A UNION" which Davey . Doesn't Like! Because they're like. Dumb kids ! They Can't Start A Union! But Jack convinces him to go along with it and BOOM! THEYS GOT A UNION BABEY! They sing a song abt it yeahyeah everyone's Thrilled.

Then they all head over to a lil restaurant to chill out and get some water and decide to have a rally with support from the other boroughs ! And everyone gets assigned to a borough to go and talk to blahblah

Then GASP! PRETTY GIRL'S BACK! She wants to write an article about the boys n their strike and GASP (AGAIN)! THEY'D MAKE THE FRONT PAGE! So everyone gets all excited and stuff . Davey and Crutchie like. Reach for eachothers hands WHICH IS KINDA. SUS. 👁👁 Davey/Crutchie qpr real!!! ANYWAY yeah she talks to Jack about the rally and stuff .. mild flirting and Jack being .... REALLY horny for a Disney musical ensues.

Then Katherine goes to write the article! She's a mess about it but she tries her best and sings actually a really nice song! She also makes a few comments about how Jack is Pretty and Charming and stuff because of course she does . So YEAH she writes up the article wahoo!!!

NEXT DAY NEXT DAY! The boys all group up for the rally ! Buuuut there's absolutely no support from the other boroughs . At all . So they're all bummed out and everyone just kinda wants to go home but JACK DOESN'T! But they don't listen to Jack so he just kinda gets Davey to convince them which. Works really well. Insert song! They do a silly dance number THAT ISN'T THAT SILLY ITS ACTUALLY SUPER COOL!!!! Anyway yeah dancey dance convince kids to join the strike with your silly gay dancey dance! Everyone's SUPER EXCITED and they get their picture taken for the papers !!!!!!!!!!

But then there's this bit that I actually really love where they're all singing really loud together cause WAHOO REVOLUTION!!! but then it starts fading out like almost Unevenly cause everyone realizes Shit Is About To Go Down. The cops n ppl from the Refuge (that abusive prison from before) show up and everyone's freakin out and big fight scene happens ! ALSO I WANNA MENTION. The cops show up. And Romeo says "IT'S ABOUT TIME YA SHOWED UP! THEY'RE SLAUGHTERIN US!" AND THEN GETS HIT BY A COP SO HARD HE FALLS OVER AND PRESUMABLY PASSES OUT. SO. WHAT THE FUCK

Anyway more fight scene and right at the end Crutchie gets Beat Up! I won't go into detail because that. Mmm it's really triggering for me but HHHHHHHH Snyder beats him w his Own Crutch and he gets dragged to the Refuge while screaming for Jack's help and it is. IT'S A LOT. /neg

So now Jack is really upset and basically having a panic attack/breakdown on the rooftop and screaming about how much he hates himself . Insert another song! He sings about again how much he hates himself and how he wants to run away to Santa Fe and just forget about all of this and stuff . END OF ACT ONE !

(I'll stop here and dm you the rest for the sake of everyone's dashboards cause this is getting UNREASONABLY long ,,)

As the November/December fervor that was New Music, holiday one-shots, and Twelfth Night is starting to die down (it’s not dying down just yet, I know, because starting Friday I’ll be posting every day until 1/5, but it’s fine shhh), I wanted to present some of my other fic ideas to y'all, and let you guys pick what you'd like to see next!!! Whichever one(s) of these I wind up writing, I'll be working on planning the New Music sequel while I do! I’m also going to put ballpark ratings (based on what I have planned/the image I have rattling around in my head of the fic idk)

So here are my current fic/AU ideas that I have rattling around in various stages of planning, in no particular order of personal preference:

(I made headers and they make me happy so you’re going to see them)

1) Yo Ho Hero: Space Pirates AU. Think: Newsies characters, (grittier) Treasure Planet aesthetic, Star Wars planet-hopping, and an embarrassing amount of plot from the Pirates Who Don't Do Anything movie. Jack, Race, and Elmer are plucked out of their ordinary lives and thrust into a whole new world as unlikely heroes when Princess Katherine is captured by a wicked pirate. They join the crew of Prince Crutchie and his mage Davey to rescue Katherine and defeat the evil Captain Mechno-beard. (Rated K+-T because... they’re pirates. It’s going to get violent at times, but I don’t intend for it to be like gory or anything.)

Main Characters: Jack Kelly, Elmer Kasprzak, Race Higgins, Crutchie Morris, Davey Jacobs

Supporting Characters: Spot Conlon, JoJo de la Guerra, Specs, Romeo, Skittery

Minor Characters: Sarah and Les Jacobs, Katherine Pulitzer, Buttons Davenport, Albert Dasilva, Snyder, probably others IDK I haven’t finished planning.

2) The Green Fields of France: beginning in canon-era, a look at the lives of Elaine, Mush, and Finch, along with their descendants. Mush and Finch go off to war and never come back. Years later, Elaine finally learns what happened to them. (This one is entirely self-indulgent, I won't lie) (Rated K+. No adult themes, that I’m planning on, but there will be talk of war and dying. Nothing graphic, but just to be safe)

Main Characters: Elaine O’Dell (OC), Charlie O’Dell (OC)

Supporting Characters: Race Higgins, Albert Dasilva, Crutchie Morris, JoJo de la Guerra, Mush Meyers, Finch Cortez

3) {unnamed modern!academia!AU}: Albert transfers to a new grad school and meets a collection of... interesting people, not the least of which is the enigmatic Race Higgins. Follows them and their friends on a wide variety of adventures over several years as they work on their degrees. Theoretically, several slow burns all at once because I intend for this to be very long and a little over-dramatic. Also, it’s kind of an Indiana Jones/Jurassic Park/Stargate AU all at once don’t ask it just seemed like fun. (Rated T. Moderate adult themes, including alcohol, minor violence, dinosaur violence, alien/sci-fi violence, potential “hooking up”. IDK. They’re adults. Who knows what they’re going to get up to. Again, nothing graphic/explicit/everything will be pretty much glossed over but it will also be there.)

Main Characters: Race Higgins, Albert Dasilva, Mush Meyers, Finch Cortez, Elaine O’Dell, JoJo de la Guerra, Buttons Davenport

4) Shakespeare: canon-era. Maire O'Connell comes from an immigrant family with an abusive father. She becomes a newsie to try and get her siblings away from him, but it's hard. Set in a world more like the 92sies movie than the musical. (Rated K+-T for Maire’s father and the Delancey brothers beating people up)

Main Characters: Maire O’Connell (OC), Jack Kelly, Davey Jacobs, Spot Conlon, Race Higgins, Sarah Jacobs

Side/Minor Characters: other newsies we’ll see who comes up

5) A Midsummer Night's Dream: unsurprisingly based on the title Part 3 of the Modern!Theatre!AU. Jack and Crutchie are still working at the World Theatre and living with Elaine and her brothers. March 12, 2020, their whole world changes. It is a summer of life-altering realizations as they all learn more about themselves and each other and hopefully become better people for it. Yes, this is the COVID quarantine one. Very gay. (Rated K. It’s just soft.)

Main Characters: Jack Kelly, Crutchie Morris, Elaine O’Dell (OC), Alan O’Dell (OC), Alden O’Dell (OC)

Side Characters: Davey Jacobs

Minor Characters: Anyone else who’s come up in As You Like It or Twelfth Night (which I know I haven’t published and have hardly written at this point it’s fine) is fair game, but won’t be appearing much because... quarantine.

6) {unnamed fairy tale AU}: This is literally only a vague idea, but I’m thinking something along the lines of Once Upon a Time, incorporating lots of different fairy tales/themes??? I’m thinking sort of the vibe of the Spiderwick Chronicles meets the Hobbit, with elements of Peter Pan/general changeling child legends and Irish mythology. Very mystical. IDK. If this is the one y’all want to see, it’ll probably take longer to start posting, because I’ll have to do more planning (unlike the others, which I have at least a little bit of planning done for, I have very little of even a concept for this one, it just seems like fun). (Rated ??? because who knows)
