It's been...weeks. There's been a lot Ellie has missed, unable to come to school or be seen in public...well, at all. Not that she's sure many people have noticed; maybe the desks she frequented might have been empty, but did anybody ever really remember who it was that occupied them?

Still, she's missed too much. It was time to try and reenter the world she used to know and continue to, hopefully, stay under the radar. Only...everything is different for her. Everyone else is able to live their lives, blissfully unaware, but Ellie? She's doing her best not to crawl out of her own skin. Everything...everything is heightened. Brighter, louder. How did anybody think around here?

It occurs to her belatedly that she can...sense something. There's something different about this room, and the people in it. No, not people. A person.

There is some pretty shocking footage out there of the Baltimore bridge collapse early this morning. I've already seen some incredibly wrong, incredibly insensitive Hot Takes about how shitty the bridge was to have fallen after being bonked by a boat, etc

Please don't be that person.

The facts will come out. Speculation is silly. In addition to loss of life, the Francis Scott Key bridge was a major arterial in that region's highway system. Its loss will be felt for years, and not just to daily commuters.

Baltimore harbor is closed. No shipping at all. This will impact supply chains in ways we cannot even assess yet.

It's pretty fucked up.
