For days he'd stared at the text message. If he didn't answer, she could continue on under the assumption he was either missing or dead--depending on if she'd seen any of the reports on the news broadcasts. If he answered...he was pretty positive she wouldn't tell anyone.

Not like he knew her well enough to know that, but it was very much the reading he got from her.

Still, there was hesitation.

Sitting alone in his motel room, listening to the clock tick by, much like he did while in rehab...He was stuck in this rut of a cycle. Until he decided he was alright with showing himself again.

He'd read her messages at least a hundred times by now, over and over, as if they would suddenly say something different. What he lingered on though...Are you okay.
