@chromatiica Latrelle was a traveler, while it wasn't in the job description it might as well be. It was easier to pick victims in a city far away from her own home. Plus shitty deadbeat cops never looked very far outside of the city where people were reported missing anyway. But for now, this trip was strictly for pleasure and to scope out new ways to freshen up her own club. Latrelle made good money hosting fight clubs but she was always looking for new ways to freshen up the look of the club.
PLANET CHROMATICA read the sign. Stepping in was like taking a breath of fresh air. The atmosphere was free and fun. Like she could finally let loose, let go of this mask she had been holding up all night, and finally be herself. Seemed like she arrived just in time too. Everyone was in high spirits and a performance just began. As soon as the singer opened her mouth.. Latrelle was taken back. Brown eyes watched in awe as she listened. Apart of her wanting to join in the crowds screaming to cheer on this stranger.. the other part of her wanted them to shut up so she could soak up the aroma of the voice of the other.

A sigh came from Latrelle. Cecil was not her.. favorite topic. "Cecil is.. talented. When it comes to hacking into things like the bat's cowls." She stated. "Just don't tell him I said such a thing" She dismissively waved her hand. "As for others.. Yes, the street. Some come in willingly, though it is rare. But nowadays people will do anything for some cash." Latrelle took a sip of the champagne that sat in front of her. "Cecil is also rather talented in hypnotism.. which helps keep contestants around."
" I see -- Those damned bats can hold their own though . " Argued but he is intrigued by the selection she's made . Captivated even ; a pretty face tended to do that to him . But the promise of further abilities only further engrosses him and getting to see what she was capable of thrills him when he was quite indifferent about this entire thing at the beginning . Which is why he's willing to place a sufficient amount of money on this Black Canary .
He just hopes she doesn't disappoint .
" And where do you get these people ? Off the streets I assume .... Aside from the bat of course . Or is that confidential ? " Asked with a smirk as his attention's returned Latrelle's way .

"Of course," Latrelle didn't disagree. "But I've seen people on the other side." Her job practically made her see people like that every day. "People who are ruthless. Who could care less about how other's feel."
"I disagree. Some of the kindest people I've met have gone through the worst things," she argued in a soft voice, n not even thinking about her own story. "And they could never hurt anybody."

Taking steps closer, Latrelle let out another chuckle out of awkwardness. Which wasn't like her.. Running into old friends after life had changed so much was always weird, was it not? "I'm good.. I actually teach math now. I'm a college professor. If you could believe it-" Latrelle let out another chuckle. She was a good student but she wasn't exactly known for behaving.
There was a silence. Should she tell him about the club? No- Even if she briefly mentioned it.. what if he found out about what it truly was? What would he think of her then?
ameeperduee:
It took a moment for Latrelle to register she was the one being spoken to. Looking up she was taken back by who she saw. “Namoo-” She spoke, with a warm smile on her face she let out a gentle chuckle. it wasn’t that she hated to see him.. it was just a shock to see him. Time had changed her so much.. she wondered if it changed him the same way it had changed her.
“It’s been so long.. How have you been? What are you doing in town? Do you live around here?”
It was understandable that it took Latrelle a few seconds to realize who she was looking at. This wasn’t exactly where someone expected a nerdy history professor at a prestigious university to end up. That was certainly something that was more likely to happen in the business department.
“I’ve been good, how are you?” He asked, which is perhaps not the main question that Namoo wanted to ask. But it would have to do for the time being. “I don’t live that far actually. I moved last year, I hadn’t been to this part of the town before.”

"Money can get you into that sort of situation," There was a pause as if an idea had come into mind. She did need more people for the upcoming tournament. "I can offer you the opportunity to get some money. Only if you're willing to put yourself at risk." That was a lie. It wasn't always willing.. in fact, participants coming along willingly was rare.
@ameeperduee liked this post!
❛ Dunno, just figured I would figure it out once the time came. Now it’s… time and I still don’t know what I’m gonna do. ❜

Squeezing her way through the crowd, Latrelle made her way do the woman. Her eyes still shining as the voice echoed in her ears despite the set just finishing. "You are fantastic--" Latrelle exclaimed, leaning into Indigo to make sure she could hear Latrelle clearly. She was eager to propose something to this woman but first, she had to get a general consensus from the other.
"What's your name?" The woman questioned, holding out her hand. "I'm Latrelle." She introduced herself. "Do you.. work for this club? Or are you a freelancer?" Latrelle questioned, tilting her head to the side.
IT WAS A RARE OPPORTUNITY TO WITNESS THE DJ ACTUALLY SING. As she produced all her tracks on her own, she was no stranger to singing, but at the end of the day the bubble-gum haired woman preferred to keep her singing for those special moments. She wasn't confident in her singing abilities & always had no problem allowing other singers to take over the vocals for her song productions.
Given that she was still new to the scene, and still climbing the social ladder, Indigo was pretty much forced to sell herself with her own voice that evening. It was the only way to catch the attention of the others in the crowd—— if that's what she was doing, anyway. The adrenaline from the pumped up crowd dancing their worries away for the night overwhelmed her in the best way possible.
She did, however, take notice of the woman standing off in the distance who seemed to be in awe of something or someone among the crowd. She can't help but laugh as the track ends and she returns to the track table laid out before her; taking over for her mentor who needed a break. Making eye contact with the woman, Indigo motioned for her to come over and join her, knowing it was pointless to even attempt to speak over the loud crowd.

“Wow, it’s been a long time since I last saw you,” Namoo said, his eyes wide behind the glasses that he was usually wearing. It wasn’t a part of the town that he thought he would see a former colleague. Even though he was a massive nerd and pretty close rule-follower, he did tend to go off his usual route to explore new parts of the world. Sometimes it didn’t go as smoothly as one would hope, but so far he had made it out of every situation without too much injury. It was part of his nature as a historian, being way too nosy about how other people were living.

Latrelle licked her lips in thought, she was always oddly good at deciding who was going to win. After all, she had been doing this for years but even some days she could be surprised.
"I can't imagine Batgirl would stand a chance against someone like Black Canary." Lifting her finger up, she selected Black Canary on the screen that sat in front of Roman. "After all, no weapons are allowed. She's limited just to hand-to-hand combat abilities. While Canary still has her meta-human abilities." "But who knows. Maybe the little thing will surprise us."
Glass is taken upon her return and he gives a thankful nod . A brighter smile given as she takes his offer . " Splendid ! " Eyes drift off toward entertainment with her query . " I'm not much of a betting man . " Admitted as he likes to think he's wiser with his money . " But I suppose the environment calls for it . " He leans in closer to her . " Who would you suggest betting on ? " Asked with a sip of champagne and arched brow .

There was apart of Latrelle that felt bad for them. Perhaps they were right, children won't have to go through what they did. But she knew what trauma did to someone.. "Some situations bring out the worst in people." She'd seen it.
@ameeperduee asked for a one liner
"The children who can have a parent like that today, I keep telling myself that these aren't children who will have to go through what we did."

A nod in response. "Of course," She disappeared for a moment before returning with glasses of champagne for the two of them.
"I suppose I have some time to kill," Latrelle spoke with a smile. setting down the glass in front of Roman. "Will you be betting with us this evening? Or just a viewing?" She questioned, sitting down beside Roman.
" Do send him my best . " A glance around is taken . " Unless he's around , but I imagine he's a busy man . " And he really wasn't in the mood to put on polite niceties either .
" I'll take some champagne . " And he gives her a once over , faint smile flashed her way . " I wouldn't object to some company either . "

"Well, Mr. Blackwell will be ecstatic to hear you're visiting us this evening." Mr Blackwell-- the words coming out of her mouth made her want to roll her eyes. She would rarely ever give Cecil such respect.. but she was trying to be a good hostess. "Could I get you anything?" A tilt to her head in question. "A drink? Some nice champagne? Wine?"
