Barbie (and Ken) Spoilers Ahead!!

So anyway, in case you haven’t noticed, I was Really Excited for Ken in this movie. I have a lot of love for SO’s who are himbos and drink their Respect Women juice and love their girlfriend/wife A Lot. I was so, so very excited to see Barbie and Ken in this movie.

Now, before I continue, let me just say this is not necessarily a criticism of the movie. I loved the movie! It made me cry on no less than three separate occasions! I can understand every decision that was made and I was here for it the entire movie.

My issue is not with Barbie. My issue is with my disappointment in Ken.

Again, this is not a criticism. Ryan Gosling? An amazing Beach Ken! I loved seeing all of the numerous Kens Ken-ing around (and Allan!!)!! They were all great actors and I think they pulled it off tremendously.

But I gotta get this off my chest. When Ken found out about the patriarchy? I was crushed. I wasn’t expecting this to be a rom-com; I knew what I was getting myself into, but I was so excited to see a live-action Barbie and Ken. Ryan Gosling, imo, was a better Ken than Ken was in my eyes. I was so deeply disappointed that my guy Ken decided to run back and introduce the patriarchy.

And, like, I know that’s the point. I know that’s the catalyst for the rest of the movie. I know everyone gets their comeuppance and they all learn to be better people and he goes off to find out who Ken is just like Barbie goes off to find out who Barbara Handler is.

But maybe I was kind of hoping to see some wholesome Barbie + Ken. Honestly, it really was kind of revolutionary to see Barbie admit that she liked Ken more as a friend and that, no, she didn’t want to kiss Ken even when he was her boyfriend. I thought that was amazing and beautiful and what I’d been waiting for for years now. But I guess I also… wasn’t expecting to see it in this. I guess my first thought when they didn’t kiss was “oh she’s ace!” and not “oh they’re on different levels of a relationship and she doesn’t love him as much as Ken loves her.” In this instance, I was really excited to see them in an ace established relationship.

Now, they did a great job of tearing down the “nice guys” and having Barbie reinforce her boundaries on multiple occasions and making Barbie see that you shouldn’t be with someone just because they’re doing x y and z. Paralleled, it was important that Barbie not take Ken for granted and there was an apology and I think it was very healthy that Ken got to cry it out.

Furthermore, I saw the call-out of the one Ken who really did just want to be with his Barbie. I saw the Barbie that really wanted to be with him back. I loved them. I thought it was a great addition as all of the other Kens went on trips to find themselves.

And I know that wasn’t the main point of the movie. I know there are essays that could be written on every part of the movie that Does Not have to do with romantic relationships as well as more in depth points to be made on the romantic relationships that are in this movie. But I personally feel like all of those other points are being made more eloquently elsewhere and that whatever isn’t said there, the Barbie movie said clearly and bluntly. All I know is that in this moment, this is what I’m feeling passionate writing about.

Maybe I just need to watch it again in a different mood. Maybe I need to watch it with a different mindset and I won’t be so devastated, the relationship will be exactly what I’m hoping it would have been, and this is what I’ve been waiting for in media.

But right now I’m just a little sad.

A/N: my first time writing something like this please give feedback! maybe ooc? not proof read. lots of grammatical errors but thats because it’s aesthetic (there are a few exceptions though)

you throw your head back as you moan wriothesley’s name loudly, your voice filling the entire room and wriothesley’s ears. you collapse on his chest, both of you panting, trying to catch your breath. wriothesley slips his dick out of you and moves you to his side (youre using his arm as a pillow). The two of you lay there for a while, enjoying each others company in silence.

you turn your head to look at wriothesley, admiring the scratches of your nails being added to the collection of his scars that littered his body. you broke out of your trance when wriothesley finally decides to break the silence between the two of you.

“you know what y/n?” you gave him a “hm?” in response. “i really cant live without you, now that i think of it, youve entered my life, i cant possibly imagine you leaving it… i love you y/n” is this what post-nut does to you? make you all mushy and gushy? but youve also become a victim of this mushy gushiness. you can feel the heat of the blush invading your cheeks.

it feels like as if your cool and mysterious boyfriend, wriothesley, has been possessed by cupid himself. he turns over, his chest now facing you, he uses his free arm to wrap around your waist. “y’know, i cant imagine a living a life without you y/n, youre the reason why that it’s a bit more bearable working at the fortress.” you kiss the tip of his nose, you dont know how to respond to him, but you reciprocate his feelings for you with your actions.

“i need you close to me” you feel wriothesley hugging you tighter, pressing your head against his chest, his words sounded like honey, it was sweet, and the faint scent of his cologne making the experience all the more better. the heat coming from is body, the scent of his cologne, and the feeling of his strong arms wrapped around you feels like a safe haven.

“i love you wrio,” you mumble as you start to doze off to dreamland “i love you too y/n,” he presses a kiss on top of your head “sweet dreams darling,” he says as pulls the blankets so that it could cover the both of you. his eyes flutters shut. only the sound of both of you breathing can be heard now.

I only watched 5x11 once and that was when I first watched the show. Which was December 2022. And I know full and damn well that that is not how it went down. I have a clear memory of what happened. And that ain’t it.

Klaus did not say to Caroline, “I’ll leave you alone and leave Hellhole Falls forever if you let me eat your coochie/let me fuck.” 🙄

No. I specifically remember him asking her for her confession about him. About her feelings for him. Not once did he ever imply that he wanted her to have sex with him in exchange for him leaving Mystic Falls. He asked for the truth. It was not a transaction for sex in exhange for him fucking leaving Mystic Falls.

Caroline: About what? I didn’t do anything!

He asked for her honesty. He promised her that he was leaving town for good and the only thing that he asked her for was her honesty. He had always respected Caroline for her honesty and he asked to be real this last time.

He gave her a warning. “Wrong place, wrong equipment,” or something like that. If he wanted her only for sex and was a creep like Damon, and had no respect for Caroline, then he would have acted as if he was Tyler and slept with her while he was in Tyler’s body or fucking compelled her. But he didn’t do either of those things. Klaus respects Caroline. Period. You can come up with whatever bullshit excuse you want. I don’t give a damn. Also, the Damon is a Demon gif is not mine.

I appreciate how he may appear frightening and rude, yet he has a really kind heart and he's simply so pure when he talks about his interests! The only thing that bothers me about him is that he almost never acts when someone is in danger unless he is personally involved in the situation, but I can't entirely blame him because he is most likely terrified, so he minds his own business. That may not be particularly heroic of him, but it doesn't make him a bad person anyway.

Aside from that, it’s not his fault here but I’m convinced the writers have something against him because his routes are all less entertaining compared to the rest. Don’t get me wrong, I loved him in HDB, he hit different there and I understand that he can’t suddenly start being confident with the power of love, however it’s such a turn off how all his main game routes revolve around him feeling unloved, insecure and thinking that everyone hates him when it was proved IN EVERY ROUTE that everyone actually CARES about him and IS there for him. It’s like everything starts all over again for what?

I feel bad for Subaru but I also feel bad for Yui for having to reassure him each and every time that he matters, he’s beautiful, he’s not like his father, everyone loves him and so on. He’s really likeable to me but they sometimes do him way too dirty. ;w;

And don’t even get me started on why Christa was even included in his DF route. She seemed more normal in MB, whereas in DF she was straight up crazy and it didn’t even give her a proper redemption arc like they did with Cordelia.

Moreover, whoever wrote LE had beef with Subaru and you can’t tell me otherwise. Not only did the writer make him try to romance Yui in Kou’s route, which resulted in him being slapped by her —I mean, I understand Yui’s reaction because she loved Kou there, but it's still a trashy situation— but on top of getting rejected, he also, as far as I recall, accidently ended off his own mother?? 😭😭

Last but not least, I’m pretty sure every time Seiji appeared in LE in his brothers’ routes, Yui was like “Idc father, I’m siding with my man” on the spot but when it came to Subaru’s route, she actually debated which one to choose between him and her dad——? It’s obvious that Subaru is extremely dependent on her and he got such a low self-esteem, so why would you pull that on him out of all characters? It’s even worse when you remember his brute ending… (ಢ_ಢ)

I tried to make this quite detailed, keeping in mind that you stated missing reading something about him. As for my final thoughts, I doubt they'll make a new game, but if they do, I truly hope they will develop his character and his relationships with Yui, Kou, and his brothers better. Nonetheless, his tsuntsun side is adorable, and he's generally chill (well… when not enraged, lol). Bonus points for liking animals; I recall him telling the MMV cat, "Don't leave my side," which may sound dramatic, but l found that sweet~! xD
