Hi! i’m going around asking different clangens for different clangen reccs bc I’ve been interested in reading more! Do you have any reccs?

A lot of the blogs I follow feature heavily stylised characters and colorful pages, wich I love. For some of them I'm not even quite caught-up but I just love seing their art coming across my dash because I love making my tumblr feed an inspiring place (don't we all) Also, I'm fairly new to the Clangen side of the WC community tbh, so some blogs featured here might be already pretty well known in the community.. But who doesn't love a nice shoutout <3 🥰 For some of these blogs I don't know wich pronouns their user might want to be used, so I'll refer to them as they/them.

🪴 @gray-thistleclan // I realize from the amount of notes that their art is already pretty well received in the community, but I LOVE the character designs featured on this blog, plus the intrigue is really unique and fairly new in the WC community (depending on if you were here when we all thought Bramblestar was gonna get rabies lol) But yeah, gorgeous art with very intense moments of drama!! Can't wait to read more!!!

🍄 https://www.tumblr.com/sporeclan @sporeclan // First of all how great is this Clan name --- Second, I found this blog throught the official Clangen blog, and fell in love with the way the artist composes her pages, it's beautifully done. Her colour palettes are also very pretty, and tho I'm not perfectly caught up with the intrigue I admit that I followed her when I saw the family tree she composed for her allegiances. Very efficient, beautiful, and the expressions are very cute.

🪷 @lotusclans-luck // This blog is kinda on hold right now but their artstyle is just a joy to watch, very delicious, I would eat it for breakfast everyday. Very 2D animation style, I can't wait to see more of their art in the future if they update it !

🐌 @snailstep-and-her-clan // The story here is really interesting, I love the main character, Snailstep, and her developement. Also, the character designs (I feel like I'm saying it about every blog ahahah) and colour palettes of this blog are so cute, unique, and original. I love when artists have fun with their palettes,, ugh...

🌿 @juniper-clan // This artist has been posting about his clan for almost a year now, and I LOVE how it evolved. It's very refined, the setting is unique and their characters have a beautiful depth that's a joy to explore. I can't wait to read more about Heronstar, she might be one of the characters I like the most out of all these blog listed. (With Snailstep)

🔊 loudclan-clangen.tumblr.com @loudclan-clangen // Very unique and interesting artstyle, designs are handeled with a lot of care and efficiency, you just can feel that the artist knows her characters on the tip of their fingers. Alos, character interactions / jokes are GOLD omg the writting is so good. I wanna be able to write such good dialogue that naturally (but the neurodivergence is holding me BACK fljgdjgs).

𓀒 fallenclan.tumblr.com @fallenclan // The story is immaculate and I can't wait to read more even tho there's so much lore that I know I won't be able to keep up entirely 🥹 But the artstyle is very efficient here as well and the character designs are very memorable. Once again, character interactions are on point and very natural, it's a pleasure for the eyes.

🦋 @the-blight-of-mothclan // Who doesn't love a good lineless artstyle ?! It's so pretty, and the soft colour palettes pleases my eyes a lot. Beautiful backgrounds also ! It must take so much time to paint those, couldn't be me 😭

🎍 @black-buttercup-clangen // HUGE inspiration when it comes to palettes. I don't know how they manage to make their art so textured with such effective and "simple" (NOT derogatory, quite the opposite) details. The artstyle is SO effective and the colour palettes are just beautiful. Go check them all out they all deserve support and love <3 I hope I helped you discover some gem that you will like :D 🤌🏼 🎨 Also, for more discoveries, you should DEFINITELY check out @officialclangen - They often reblog some very interesting and cool blogs, that's how I came across a lot of these.

what blogs do you recommend?

Oh that would depend on what you have in mind for a blog, like what you are looking for.

I definitely recommend @yararts blog for her amazing art and our work to our projects as well as recently she works on some other fandoms in that account including Avatar among others. She is arguably the best concept artist I know and since I know her personally I can guarantee her work is definitely worth it and she is always open for questions and clarifications on our projects even if they are not widely known to public and shows great passion.

Now when it comes to other sections such as mythology and such if you like more anime-like style I would definitely recommend @smokey07 and @hymnoeides to see beautiful art that also honors the original sources as well apart from the usual fandoms that you see around. I would also recommend you one of the most passionate people I know about Homer and his poems @soarinsugar-homerblog who, like me, makes work EXCLYSIVELY on the sources particularly Homer and homeric poems.

@jacobpking makes also great art and arguably one of the BEST representations of mythology according to ethnicity and region I have ever seen and has great attention to detail in that touch of realism if you are interested and makes works on several different projects on different things and parts of the world. Now if you wanna see some random and funny posts that can make your day I could recommend @emmikay who makes some incorrect quote focused posts among others and some of them are definitely on spot! And plenty of great points on myths and their context! Likewise shorter posts can be found in @likethexan profile and much more.

For historical colothing inspiration I would definitely recommend @tchai-castor who is also studying on the matter and makes some of the most detailed images of historical fashion I have seen with that little personal touch to their designs

Now for fanfictions outside of mine here you can see profiles such as @prompted-wordsmith blog and @formerstingray

I tend to hang in the " lasted" section of the clangen tag...trying to upvote and follow other smaller blogs.

@whistleclangen - AMAZING ART! Isnt afrad to add funny little moments in their comic/meme around/or make their characters look a little silly... They are super chill, nice and so freaking talented!! You wont be disappointed.

@direclan - Amazing art! (you are gonna hear that a lot! I adore a lot of these art styles! <3) They update pretty often! And they know their own characters so damn well! I have no idea where they're getting the energy from. You will absolutely fall inlove with mustache-cat! (and their poor med-cat.) @shadow-in-the-blizzard - Horror blog! I love that they have decided to for something with body-horror, mystery and the paranoia that ANYONE can be infected! You will def lose the chara you got attached to. T_T

@the-tale-of-stingrayclan They have such a special art style! I absolutely adore it!! I love it when people arent afraid to give their cats hair, tufts or any other trait that adds character! Keeps a lot of future cats/cats in general from looking the same. (Clangen only has so-so many pelt colours..)

@attempts-of-fawnclan -YOU WILL GET ATTACHED TO THESE CHARACTERS! Their artstyle is super special! I think it is amazing that they seem to be doing all their art in MS Paint??? I could never...

@sapling-clangen - Cute art, friendly, amazing story and super supportive? Like, they followed me and stuff when I pretty much just 'joined' this side of tumblr!?!? The character development is just... chef's kiss! same for that story.

@cutieclangen - Omggggg! Where do I even start? AMAZING ART! Super friendly, nice and just... that story! they arent sad to dip into drama, but you will get so absorbed into every aspect...

History Blog recs

One of my Very Specific interests over the last...idk 10 years, has been reading blogs about the A Song of Ice and Fire series, by historians. I'm not sure what it is about those books: the complex, multi-layered narrative, the author's claim to work creatively with real world history, the micro-arguments contained in every arc, or what, but historians have the most FASCINATING shit to say about those books.*

I've learned so much about the logistics of civilization, the intellectual history of leadership theory, the history of subsistence agriculture, the type of agriculture needed to sustain societies of a certain size, the evolution of military theory, etc from this very specific, Historians Engage With ASOIAF and its Television Adaptations genre of blog.

There is, of course, the late great Steven Attewell's @racefortheironthrone, but I recently discovered this gem: A Collection of Unmitigated Pedantry by Dr. Bret C. Devereaux. I just finished his series analyzing, problematizing, and ultimately debunking George RR Martin's claim that the Dothraki "were actually fashioned as an amalgam of a number of steppe and plains cultures… Mongols and Huns, certainly, but also Alans, Sioux, Cheyenne, and various other Amerindian tribes… seasoned with a dash of pure fantasy."

In Part IV, he writes:

... declaring that the Dothraki really do reflect the real world (I cannot stress that enough) cultures of the Plains Native Americans or Eurasian Steppe Nomads is not merely a lie, but it is an irresponsible lie that can do real harm to real people in the real world. And that irresponsible lie has been accepted by Martin’s fans; he has done a grave disservice to his own fans by lying to them in this way. And of course the worst of it is that the lie – backed by the vast apparatus that is HBO prestige television – will have more reach and more enduring influence than this or any number of historical ‘debunking’ essays. It will befuddle the valiant efforts of teachers in their classrooms (and yes, I frequently encounter students hindered by bad pop-pseudo-history they believe to be true; it is often devilishly hard to get students to leave those preconceptions behind), it will plague efforts to educate the public about these cultures of their histories. And it will probably, in the long run, hurt the real descendants of nomads.

Which just. I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. Y'all know how deeply concerned I am a. with the outsize influence the entertainment industry has on memory; and b. how little that industry gives a shit about responsible use of its own power. So like, this is my shit. I'm still exploring this blog and it is a TREASURE TROVE.

**Also, I never watched more than 2 episodes of the show. I hated how it added in sexual violence and nudity for no reason when there was already PLENTY of that in the text, most of it with narrative purpose. But then I read the books because it was 2012 and I wanted to keep up with pop culture.

Uhhhh...Taro's my oldest one! I got them a couple years ago for my 16th birthday! It was definitely a surprise; my parents (Arceus bless them) have always been...a little too cautious??? In my opinion??? Growing up, they never let me or my siblings have individual Pokemon- we'd have a pretty harmless one as a family pet- which!! Don't get me wrong- I really did love!! But....I was definitely glad to have a partner of my very own! Taro was bred by a close friend of my parents- they came to me fully evolved and with all the basic house and behavior training. They specifically picked out Taro for me because of their cute lil' magenta teapot! They are my little baby and I love them so so much <3

Kyutiepie was my second Pokemon, also at 16! Though, I caught her in the wild, on my own. I was....uh....in....sort of an....interesting, revolutionary sort-of club??? And. Uh. I needed a fairy-type to join, so, I looked up where to find Mimikyu and caught one! Uh. In retrospect. This was a REALLY FUCKING HASTY DECISION- Kyutiepie, thankfully, was okay with being caught and trained, but GOD OUGHHH. OUGH. This was. Not my smartest idea ough man...Anyways, uh. My parents were. Not happy I caught her without their permission??? They took her Pokeball away and nearly released her (and nearly took Taro's ball too). Yeah. Uh. All in all, a really really awful start, but, despite that, Kyutiepie seems pretty happy to be here with me (I tried to see if she wanted to be released a couple times, but she refused) and I'm really happy to have her.

I got Bell, my Yamper, when I moved to Galar! My roommate took me to a local shelter and, after browsing and spending time with all the lil guys, Bell seemed the best fit for me, so I brought him home! He's a very sweet and silly boy, and I love him so much

Thistle is my newest Pokemon- I got him a few months ago BY COMPLETE ACCIDENT. I was out in the wild area, practicing drawing some scenery, and. Um. He just. Came up to me. It....might've been because I was wearing my Bewear hoodie??? He might've thought I was his parent or something??? Um, he proceeded to follow me home, and every time I try and take him back to release him he throws a huge tantrum and gets very scary so. Uh.....I assume that means he wants to stay with me???? I'm. Still figuring him out- ngl he makes me nervous vhyyffyfyvyyvgyvyy
